With this review, I want to start a cycle of tests of various devices for coffee machines, which can expand the functionality of even a budget model, endowing it with the capabilities of premium coffee machines. The first such device in line is the Aqualey system for connecting coffee machines to the water supply system. It is produced by a company from St. Petersburg (import substitution is on the march!), Which kindly provided me with a sample for testing.

To begin with, connecting to the water supply is the prerogative of either commercial models (for example, or), or very expensive and rare home ones (this is usually typical). Russian reality, of course, makes adjustments. This is in the homeland of most coffee machines - in Italy - almost San Pellegrino flows from the tap, and in our country it is better to connect to the water supply after the household filter under the sink or directly to the cooler.

But if you want to teach your inexpensive coffee machine to fill with water on its own, then there is nothing impossible. Here is such a simple set, it contains everything you need to connect almost any model (with the exception of some instances with closed access to the tank) to a household filter and make it almost autonomous:

The principle, of course, cannot be called innovative - any person with an engineering education, if given time, can assemble a similar eyeliner by selecting the necessary spare parts. In the case of Aqualey, the manufacturer has already done this for you, having developed a universal set for most coffee machines.

Aqualey is essentially a system of fittings and pipes that can be gently routed from the filters under the sink to your coffee machine. Plus the main element and "know-how" - a float valve with fastening that regulates the inclusion and shutdown of the water supply. An additional tap is optionally installed to turn off the water supply for more peace of mind during a long absence or in case of cleaning the coffee machine. Also included are stickers to facilitate fastening:

All materials are selected conscientiously, the manufacturer assures (and this is confirmed by the marking on the spare parts) that the fittings - pipes, faucet and fittings (adapters) - are produced by the British company John Guest in the UK.

However, enough to consider, let's collect. I connected Melitta Caffeo Varianza to the water supply and this is how it looked:

I start using fittings and a knife to assemble the required tube configuration. This stage requires care! First, I try everything on. Before starting the process, I recommend straightening all the segments of the tubes (since they come twisted, they have a slight curvature when unpacking). At the first stage, I try on without cutting for a complete tap (with a blue valve). At the last stage, I will simply embed it in a suitable segment, having precisely understood the future wiring from the machine under the countertop and further to the filter under the sink.

At this moment, I decide to slightly change the location of the coffee machine on the table and hang Aqualey on the back wall of the tank. In addition, after carefully reading the instructions again, I conclude that I initially forgot to cut out the corner of the round white sticker to fix the fasteners, and glued it strictly opposite the long white bolt. In fact, you need to make a small corner cutout and glue the resulting semicircle "above" the bolt. In this case, the sticker acts as a stop-spacer between the supply pipe and the fastening bolt (see photo below):

Now I finally fix the mount on the tank wall. For better vertical fixation, as indicated in the instructions, I made a corner cutout in the sticker and positioned it in the girth of the bolt.

I bring the Aqualey hose under the countertop to the filter. I carefully cut the blue hose that went from the filter to the tap at the sink and connect all three inlets in a complete tee.

This is what the mounted Aqualey system looks like in my case. I decided to place the tap that shut off the water supply to the coffee machine on the side of it, so that it was at hand and there was no need to climb under the sink. But, in principle, you can choose any other place for its insertion.

Now the coffee machine can be pushed deeper under the wall cabinet - there is no more need to take out the water tank. You just need to leave enough space to conveniently fill the grains.

Nuances

Like any potential client, I am primarily concerned about two questions - how reliable is the Aqualey system ( in other words, will the float "glitch" and will it flood the whole kitchen for me?) and how the warranty repair departments look at the use of such a system ( Will they refuse to repair my coffee grinder, for example, if I use Aqualey?). Let's figure it out in order:

1. Reliability and protection against leaks. Here I must admit that I did not do a long test, but honestly for a couple of days I tried to make sure that the float valve "stuck": I turned it this way and that, turned off and on the water, used warm water, turned on the coffee machine so that it vibrated ... But the valve stubbornly worked at the right moment. In general, the design looks quite reliable in the new state. There are no complaints about the pipes and connections themselves - they really inspire confidence, although I am not a plumber.

Nevertheless, when using the Aqualey system in the office, for peace of mind, I would turn off the water supply to the coffee machine with a special tap at night. Again, it is included.

2. As for the warranty, then after polling several service centers, I came to the conclusion that they do not have a single position on the question of whether a coffee machine modernized in this way is a warranty or not. Certainly, connecting Aqualey to a coffee machine by means of a tie-in may be a reason for refusing a guarantee (but it may not be). But the supply of water directly from above to the tank can hardly affect the warranty repair. After all, the service center simply does not know that you connected their coffee machine to the water supply system, there will be no traces on the machine except for a couple of stickers.

3. Plus, of course, compatibility issue... The system is easy to integrate into coffee machines with top access to the water tank. Moreover, since the diameter of the tube and the dimensions of the other elements are relatively small, the aesthetically pleasing appearance suffers little, the system looks quite solid. But if the water tank slides out from the front or side, then a sidebar will be needed. This involves drilling a small hole with a diameter of 7-8 mm in the body of the coffee machine and in the tank itself. The manufacturer showed me several examples of such an implementation, below are a couple of photos. But personally, I cannot say that I would immediately decide on a cut-in installation. All the same, the case deteriorates.

Aqualey review verdict

Without hiding the fact that this review is being printed, which is called "for advertising rights", I hasten to assure that I took the product for the test with the condition "if you don't like it, I will not review it." Well, as you can see, I completely overcame my skepticism 🙂

By the way, at first it seemed to me that such a device for connecting coffee machines to a water supply system would be relevant only in offices. However, after interviewing a dozen friends, it turned out that many of them are ready to consider this system for home use. My guesses were also confirmed by the manufacturer Aqualeya, who claims that more than 50% of orders come from home connections.

Indeed, in addition to the main functionality - automatic tank replenishment - Aqualey can significantly reduce the space occupied by a coffee machine, which is important just in home kitchens.

On the one hand, if the tank is taken from above, then this requires space above the coffee machine. When installing Aqualeya, there is no need for it. But not really, you need to fill up the grains.

The feint is different. Applying the system, you are decoupled from the volume of the water tank. That is, even if there are 10 consumers, you do not need to take a coffee machine with a large water tank and you can limit yourself to at least a liter! And finally, the financial aspect - many are considering the option of buying built-in coffee machines just because of their autonomy.
