How to paint an interior MDF door. Interior doors made of MDF: installation, painting, reviews

Of course, there are no trifles in the repair, each work requires attention and respect. But still, there are those who do not require much knowledge, or skills, or time. These include the solution to the question of how to paint the interior doors of MDF or wood.

The choice of how to paint interior doors is quite large both in the color of the paint and in its basis.

It is only necessary to choose the right paint specifically for work in the interior, flawless from an environmental point of view, all other operations should not cause any difficulties.

The photo shows only a small set of possible proposals.

Although there are many operations ahead.

Painting procedure

The following is to be done:

  1. first carefully examine the condition of the old paint and make one of two decisions:
  • if the old paint "sits" well and it has not lost its appearance, then it is not at all necessary to remove it completely, it is enough just very carefully (but there can be no compromises here) to remove waves and bumps,
  • putty them completely, and,
  • clean with sandpaper;

The instruction does not oblige you to first remove the old paint, but it is very desirable to do this.

  • if the decision is still made to remove the old paint, then you cannot do without special devices:
  • first, we try to move as far as possible with an ordinary spatula, being very careful with the wood, without damaging it;
  • then we prepare a hair dryer, better - a special, powerful construction one - and we remove it with a spatula, preheating the paint layer;
  • a more radical tool - an iron or its construction analog - can help a lot to remove paint; this will not be able to help in difficult uneven places, but on flat surfaces it is simply irreplaceable;

Mechanical sanding is required after removing paint and filler

  • complete removal of the paint then obliges to carry out grinding of the surface, preferably with a grinder;
  • as a final chord, we ground the entire surface;
  • we wait for it to dry completely and grind it all over again;
  1. when, one way or another, the problem of the paint layer is solved, the surface is primed, and the primer is treated with sandpaper, we proceed to painting. Here it will be necessary to fulfill only one strict rule - painting should be carried out in at least 2 layers, and the first one should be applied with a thicker consistency, before applying the second layer, be sure to wait until the first one is completely dry.

Everything can be done with your own hands, especially in places that are hard to reach for a typewriter

Helpful advice! There is another, very effective, way to remove old paint - the so-called chemical, with the help of special solvents, which are also called "paint destroyers".

But we do not recommend using it indoors, and even on a vertically placed door. You will have to remove the door and do all the outdoor work. By the way, all other work on the doors is also best done when they are removed and in a horizontal position.

Perhaps, before painting, the putty door will not look very aesthetically pleasing, but literally in an hour everything will change dramatically

Selection of paint

It remains to solve only the most important question, how you can paint the interior doors. He will immediately say that specialized, more related to the method of cold galvanizing, electrically conductive zinga paint will not work here (also find out how and with what to paint the plaster).

Do not use fire retardant paints for metal polished. But even with this exception, the choice is not at all poorer.

Requirements

But first, about the selection requirements:

  • At first, the paint must be good from an aesthetic point of view, and its appearance must last for a long period of time after the completion of the work.
  • Secondly, the paint must be flawless from the point of view of ecology, this is a requirement for all materials used in interiors.
  • Thirdly, since the paint for the door, it must be strong enough for abrasion, because the interior doors are in motion and are constantly used throughout the 24 hours a day.
  • Fourth, and this is very important, the paint must be resistant to fire, God forbid, that you have to check its quality sometime, but we strongly advise you to check this characteristic when buying.

Painting can be done with a roller, this is faster, but you can't do without brushes, in any case we put at least two layers

Offers

We have several paint options at our disposal on the market:

  • Alkyd... This is now the most common, due to its durability, a large number of colors and cost. But the alkyd base of the paint for 2-3 days, until it dries completely, gives off a not very pleasant smell. On the scale of environmental friendliness, this paint also cannot put a maximum rating of 100 points - it is not higher than 80. In other words, you should not paint the door to the nursery and where people susceptible to allergic reactions live with this paint.
  • Acrylic enamel... There is also a wide range of colors here, no smells for you. But it is already noticeably more expensive and strength suffers, so often the paint layer is additionally covered with acrylic varnish.
  • Nitroenamel... The high cost of this proposal for many is more than compensated for by the remarkable appearance of the surface on which this paint will lie. But such paint requires increased attention to personal safety during work, it is toxic.

If the area of work is small, then everything can be done in just a few hours, do not forget that the putty must be allowed to dry completely

conclusions

Painting an interior door is an operation that you always strive to perform on your own and it's not even a matter of saving finances. I just want to sometimes do something with my own hands, when the price of work in terms of time costs is not so high (find out here how and with what materials to prepare drywall for painting).

Treat your work, as always, with great respect, carefully prepare the entire surface by removing the door from its hinges. Before you finally decide on the paint, test its samples.

Be sure to watch the additional video in this article, it will help you navigate more accurately when choosing.

Moreover, this is allowed by the possibilities of the construction market. To do this, you need to buy a primed (that is, ready-to-paint). Such a door is well painted with acrylic paint (which means, water-based - almost odorless). Acrylic paint is well applied to a primed MDF door even with a brush and does not leave streaks on the surface, which is very important for the aesthetic appearance of the door.

How to paint mdf doors? How to paint the door?

It is good to apply paint (this is faster, and in addition, paint is saved) and with a brush (a brush is good for convex areas of the door panel).

Brush the first coat onto the surface of the door. should dry in 15-20 minutes. In this case, a pleasant surprise will be found - the paint is almost odorless. This is due to the fact that the paint is based on water. At the same time, the quality of painting does not deteriorate in any way. Over time, the coating does not fade, does not fade. Doors can be cleaned with a damp cloth.

After applying a coat of paint to the door surface for the first time, it will be found that the paint has absorbed into the surface and the door looks unevenly painted. A second coat of paint is required. Perhaps, after the second time, paint application will be required for the third, final, time. And now - that's it, the door is ready.

How much acrylic paint is required for one set of doors
(the set is: a door leaf, a box of 5 running meters, a casing of 10 running meters). Based on personal experience: one set of doors requires one kilogram of acrylic paint.

Where to buy acrylic paint

Acrylic paint is sold wherever residential paint is sold.

Attention: for painting primed MDF doors, the following paint is required - WATER-BASED ACRYLIC PAINT FOR WOOD PRODUCTS (WINDOWS, DOORS).

Acrylic paint, intended, for example, for walls, is in no way suitable for MDF doors.

Oil paint is also not suitable, since it is poorly applied to the door. Leaves an unusual shine and oil paint marks on the door.

MDF and wood painting technology

Preparation for painting MDF and wood

The technology of painting MDF doors and furniture (facades) involves preparation, painting and intermediate operations at a temperature of 18-28 ° C, a relative humidity of 50-80% and a moisture content of wood 8-14%. The surfaces to be painted, the paints and varnishes used and the painting equipment should have the same temperature.

Primer, paint and varnish for MDF and wood are supplied ready for painting and do not require preliminary preparation. If the tinting of paints and varnishes (paintwork materials) is carried out independently, you should be guided by the general recommendations for tinting paint.

Before painting MDF and wood, the primer, paint and varnish must be filtered through a 50-100 micron filter. The filtering process is mandatory for finishing materials, especially for glossy finishes. If the filtered paintwork materials have been stored for more than two weeks, the paintwork should be re-filtered before painting.

Wood priming, intermediate sanding
When painting porous woods, a wood and MDF primer should be used before applying the topcoat. Recommended parameters of primer spraying: working pressure 2–4 atm., Nozzle size 1.6–2.4 mm, wet layer thickness 80–120 µm. Drying of the primer can be carried out in the range from 16 to 60 ° C, while the drying time until ready for sanding is from 6 hours to 30 minutes. When varnishing doors, the first coat of wood varnish can act as a primer.

When working out the technology of painting wood and MDF, the optimal test for readiness for sanding is whether the sanding paper is clogged or not. The primer for wood and MDF is designed for both hand sanding and machine sanding, and the primer is also ideal for infrared drying. When sanding, do not allow sanding to the base; if such areas appear, the product should be primed again.

Painting of interior doors

Finishing paintwork is done by air spraying: working pressure 2.5–4 atm., Nozzle size 1.6–2.4 mm. MDF paint and varnish are ideal for HVLP (spray gun) painting. On request, acrylic paint and wood varnish are available in roller application, in combination with infrared drying.

Painting (painting) of MDF and wood is carried out in one layer, the recommended thickness of the wet layer is 120-150 microns. For more convenient painting, the door leaf is located at an angle of 15-20 °, painting in a vertical position also does not cause any particular difficulties.

Drying painted wood and MDF

Drying of wood and MDF painted with acrylic paint, for maximum productivity and stability of production, is carried out at a temperature of 35 to 60 ° C at a relative humidity of 50-80%, the drying time is from 1.5 to 2 hours. It is preferable to use a convective drying method. It is recommended to carry out control of the relative humidity in the dryer, the drying time of water-based paints and varnishes is very dependent on this parameter.

It should be noted that familiarization with the technology of painting interior doors with industrial paints and varnishes for MDF and wood is not recommended for drying at room temperature. Seeming ease of use requires professional skills and experience in painting.

Warehousing and transportation

Before storage, the painted sheets of interior doors must be laid with soft paper or packed in individual cardboard packaging to avoid friction on the painted surface. It is not recommended to expose painted products to long-term exposure to water and negative temperatures for the first seven days. Warehousing and storage: 5-25 ° С at a relative humidity of 50-80%. Transportation of doors at temperatures up to -25 ° C is allowed.

Carrying out repairs on your own, and not having enough construction experience, you have to face many tasks that you need to solve and make the right decision yourself.

When the question arose about the choice of interior doors, the renovation was already coming to an end, and as sometimes happens, the money allocated for this event was slowly coming to an end. In order to save money, I decided to buy and. The doors are not bad, the only color did not suit, it is white hospital color,

We make ourselves out of a cheap door, beautiful and expensive.

but at the price very much, even satisfied. The question was how to paint the door in order to preserve the structure and give the door a normal look. Friends advised Polish Lakobeyts,
We make ourselves out of a cheap door, beautiful and expensive.

Lakobeyts has a liquid consistency, due to which the varnish penetrates deeply into the pores of the wood, filling them and forming a thin, uniform, water-repellent layer of the varnish coating. It is also very convenient that the varnish and tone are mixed in one, thanks to this you do not need to tint first, and then open it with varnish, saving time and effort.

The varnish application technology is very simple. The varnish is applied with a brush, roller or spray.

The best results are achieved when the varnish is applied with a brush, for several reasons. The doors have a certain panel pattern, and in these places, applying varnish with a spray gun or a roller, it is very difficult to achieve a uniform coating. This can only be done by a highly qualified specialist. It is very easy to work with a brush, even without certain skills. Before using Lakobeyts, it is necessary to stir well, this will ensure an even tone. You need to use a special brush (for varnish). In such a brush, the pile holds very well and does not fall out.

It is necessary to apply varnish along the grain of the tree, or structure, in a thin even layer. When going through the drawing of the panel, you need to be especially careful, smudges may form in these places, which must be removed immediately with a brush.

What is the best way to lay the doors before installation, or after? I lapped the first door before installation. Putting the door on a horizontal surface, being afraid of smudges. I will say that the process is very inconvenient. You need to open one side, wait a day, turn over and open the other side, and then repeat the process again, because the door needs to be covered with two layers of varnish.

I decided to open all the other doors with varnish, when the doors were already installed in the openings with embedded locks and mounted cashing, the process exceeded all expectations in speed.

We make ourselves out of a cheap door, beautiful and expensive.

Doors prepared in this way can be installed in all rooms. Two layers of varnish provide doors with protection against high humidity and frequent temperature changes. The coating is very durable and practical.

Thanks to Lakobeyts, the doors have acquired a beautiful and very durable, nutty tone. Practically indistinguishable from natural wood.

Painting MDF: painting technology for MDF products

The door leaf you have made or a semi-finished door leaf without external finishing, purchased in the store, can be painted with your own hands or its surface finished in various non-standard ways (photo on the right, click to download a larger file).

As a rule, finishing or updating the appearance of a door consists in painting it with ordinary ready-made varnish-and-paint materials of various colors. This method of painting the door is practiced everywhere, regardless of the popularity of the company or the qualifications of specialists. That's just how everyone does it.

short and important explanations,

which may be useful to you not only on the topic of this article.

But, if you use non-standard methods of painting the door with your own hands, then you can turn a new or old door leaf into an exclusive one that not only pleases the eye, but also attracts attention with its uniqueness. At the same time, the cost of painting a door can be ridiculously low, and the result will exceed all your expectations.

Do-it-yourself high-quality door painting technology.

For convenient work with any type of door painting, first of all, you need to prepare a workplace that can be located in the yard, in the garage or any utility room of your site, or just in an empty room in a city apartment.

To equip the workplace, you just need to put 2 stools on a flat surface, on which you should put a piece of board with a length not exceeding the width of the door leaf. A lint-free, dense cloth should be placed on the boards so that after turning the door over, there are no scratches, dents or other unwanted marks on the varnished surface. On the stand prepared in this way, we put the door leaf prepared for painting.

With this position of the door leaf, it is very convenient to paint the door. You will appreciate this in the process of work - the door leaf is located at a distance of at least 40 centimeters from the floor, which allows painting with a spray gun without raising dust from the floor with a spray gun air stream. In addition, it creates the convenience of painting the door while standing upright without straining the spine.

Painting the doors with varnish or paint should be done in the following order: using a spray gun, first blow out all the ends, bypassing the door around, then cover the door surface, starting from yourself and not stopping until the entire surface is completely painted.

Each paint pass should start and end outside the door leaf. In no case should you paint the door sections towards each other (although this is more convenient). That is, first paint the door halfway, and then, moving to the other side, continue painting the second half of the door. Want to mess up? Try it.

This means that no matter how wide the door is and no matter how short the arms are, painting should be done from any (convenient), but only from one side from start to finish.

Painting the other side of the door can be started only after the first side (layer) has completely dried, but not earlier than 2 hours when using nitrocellulose paints and not earlier than the complete drying time indicated on the package for other types of paints and varnishes.

Important! The painted surfaces of the door faces and ends never flake off, as they are not glued, but painted. Flaking trim is a disease of branded doors.

Consider several ways to paint a door with your own hands.

The first way to paint the door.

The method that is most often used in everyday life when updating the appearance of the door leaf. How is this usually done? A ready-to-use paint of the required color is purchased. The door is lightly sanded and the door leaf is painted with a brush or roller. Not the most difficult, but not the most original way of painting a door, but very often applicable.

But if you approach painting the door creatively, you can make it look almost indistinguishable from the new one. What needs to be done to ensure that the painting of a new or old door is of high quality? First of all, before painting the door with any kind of paints and varnishes, its surface must be well prepared and the surface must be primed.

The primer is a 30% solution of the paint

which will subsequently be applied as a decorative layer.

That is, the ready-to-use paint from the manufacturer's plant must be diluted with a solvent (thinner) in a ratio of one to three.

The primed surface of the door leaf will not only increase the adhesion of the paint layer, but also allow you to see all the flaws of the prepared surface. It is not forbidden to make additional leveling of the surface after applying the primer by partially or completely re-filling the surface.

If the surface quality suits you, then we paint the door with paint of the selected color in two layers using a spray gun. Painting the door with a spray gun allows you to get the highest quality surface, not only in appearance, but also in strength.

When the door is transparent, I advise you to use colored NC paints for painting. The required color of the varnish can be obtained by adding art oil paints to the varnish on any basis (NC, PF).

When using NC paints, after the second layer has dried (after 20-30 minutes), the entire surface of the door leaf is lightly sanded with a fine or worn-out emery cloth to remove roughness, dust is swept away with a thick brush and covered in one layer with matte furniture or parquet varnish. When using slow drying paints, recoat only after the first coat is completely dry.

You can focus on the drying time of the paint according to the instructions attached to each package of paint. But it should be borne in mind that the drying time is indicated with the obligatory maintenance of the appropriate temperatures and humidity. When the temperature drops below 20 degrees and the humidity of the ambient air rises, the drying time must necessarily be increased.

By running the palm of your hand over the painted surface, you can feel the quality of the finished surface. We cover any surface with varnish in order not to spoil the color of the paint with light sanding. If we try to lightly sand a simple painted surface to remove small lint, we get clearly visible stripes that spoil the entire decorative look.

That is, the paint cannot be sanded, but the varnished surface can be.

While one side of the door is drying, let's talk about nitrocellulose enamel. What does the use of NC paints give when painting a door? First of all, it is the speed of finishing the door and any painting work. In addition, NC paint allows you to work in unsuitable rooms (in the garage, in the yard in the open air) - fast drying of the paint layer eliminates the adhesion of debris, dust or small insects.

For the use of any other types of paints, which dry to touch for more than half an hour, a special sterile room is required, which naturally complicates the work.

Try to paint in the shade rather than in direct sunlight. If we paint the door in the sun, we can get a disgusting result. This will happen because the surface of the door leaf may have too high a temperature and the NC paint will dry out instantly, without having time to adhere to the surface.

But if we cover the door leaf heated by the sun with parquet varnish, we will get an exceptionally hard and durable surface. Notice the difference and use these LMB features as appropriate.

So, one side of the door is dry, we turn it over and paint on the other side of the door leaf using the same technology. And not necessarily in the same color, because in another room there may be a different finish. You can't buy doors painted to match the decoration of your apartment, and even in different colors on each side in the store, and it's ridiculously easy to make such a miracle with your own hands.

And if you insert a stained glass window into a monochromatic door. made with your own hands, then from an ordinary door you will get such a charm, which you can see by clicking on the template of photo 1.

So, a single-color door painting is not the worst, but quite a normal option. The final design and the selection of the color of the door painting, corresponding to the overall design of the room, are important.

Dry the painted door leaf for 24 hours. We fix the hinges and install the door. In some cases, in order to achieve a better finish on the door, the door hinges are attached before the door is painted.

DIY painting mdf doors

Do-it-yourself door painting

If the door has lost its spectacular appearance, is dilapidated and outdated, then surely it's time to paint it. It should be noted that such a process as painting a door is absolutely uncomplicated and can be carried out with ease and, most importantly, very quickly by almost any person, even those who are far from construction topics.

Tools and materials

Painting the door with your own hands is a very simple process, but you still have to prepare some tools and materials. In particular, from the materials you will need the actual paint itself (the best for such purposes is oil), a primer for paint (round and flat), as well as a little mastic (in the event that you have to close up ugly irregularities in the door leaf).

Of the tools for carrying out such a process as painting a door with your own hands, you will need a table or construction goats, a grinder, a spatula, paint brushes, sandpaper, as well as a standard "gentleman's set" - a screwdriver, a hammer and nails.

Door painting process

All work on painting the door begins with removing it from the hinges. It is worth noting that the process is quite simple, but if the door is heavy, then it is better to enlist the help of assistants. After dismantling the door itself, all the fittings (handles, lock pads, locks) are removed from it and it either leans against the wall at an angle (which is not very convenient for painting), or is placed horizontally on a previously prepared trestle (in some cases, you will have to use two of these support). It should be noted that it is much easier to carry out all painting work on a flat horizontal surface than if the door leaf is tilted.

3. After cleaning the door, fresh wood must be coated with a special primer. This must be done so that the paint is not absorbed too quickly and its costs are not too high.

4. Directly painting the door with your own hands begins with the largest surfaces of the canvas. It is worth noting that after the completion of the painting work on the largest surfaces, the ribs and various fastening parts are painted (if, of course, this is necessary).

After applying the paint coat, carefully inspect the door. In the event that one layer of paint is not enough, then another second can be applied. But, the next layer of paint can be applied only when the first one is polished.

In addition to the above painting technology with the use of oil dyes, there is another way to paint a door, but only a tint composition (a special impregnation for wood) is used as the main material in it. As a rule, such paint is sold in any specialty store and it will not be difficult to purchase it.

Repair work in the house in many cases involves the replacement and restoration of doorways. This procedure is relatively simple, but requires certain skills.

You can give the doors a beautiful look by painting it in a certain color. You can also pick up and buy New Style doors, which is the best option.

Materials for painting

Doors made of MDF are products that it is advisable to install only inside buildings, since they quickly succumb to external aggressive substances.

It is recommended to use several types of substances as paints for these types of products:

  • acrylic varnishes;
  • acrylic paints.

These materials are absolutely safe and do not emit toxic substances. The variety of colors of these types of paints allows you to choose them for any type of interior. At the same time, taking care of these materials is very easy and simple.

As an additional protection, a special primer is used before the paint coat. The amount of materials for painting depends on the size of the door leaf.

To obtain a certain color of the coating, you must first prepare the paint. To do this, use special colors that allow you to get different types of shades.

Paint the door

The process of painting MDF doors is a specific procedure, consisting of several successive stages:

  1. At the very beginning, the entire surface is primed. This will remove dust from the surface and significantly improve the adhesion properties of the coating.
  2. If the surface has some dents, then they are covered with a putty. After that, everything is sanded and primed again.
  3. The next step is to tint the paint. This must be done in one container, since it is almost impossible to get the same shade in two "buckets" by eye.
  4. At the very end, painting is done. The number of layers is selected individually and depends on the desired appearance of the door.

In the same way, doorways are varnished. If you use a transparent varnish, then you need to putty the door with substances that are structurally suitable for your product.

You can get a better finish using special spray guns that apply paint in an even layer. This not only reduces the consumption of materials, but allows you to get a very high-quality appearance.

How to paint a MDF door - in this video:

Sometimes you want to change the design of a MDF door leaf. This can be done in different ways: by purchasing a new door or painting the old one. For those who decide to go the second way, MDF door paint is sold, which forms a uniform coating on the surface. You just need to decide on the desired color and characteristics of the paintwork in order to acquire a suitable composition. If there is a desire to radically transform the doors, it is worth clarifying whether the surface can be lightened. The light canvas fits well into any interior.

MDF doors

How to paint the door?

In the manufacture of products from MDF, a special board made of pressed or glued shavings and wood fibers is used. It is distinguished from a fiberboard canvas by its density. If for fiberboard this parameter is considered average, then for MDF it is higher.

Painting the slabs is somewhat difficult due to the fact that the components included in the material have different characteristics. As a result, some areas are easily painted, while the composition does not apply to others. In order for the updated canvas to acquire an aesthetic appearance, the paint must be:

  • No pungent smell. Finding a completely neutral composition will not work, but it is still recommended to choose paints with a subtle smell, for example, water-based paints. It is preferable to refuse the use of nitro enamels or alkyd paint;
  • Quick drying. This property is possessed by acrylic and water-based paints;
  • With gloss. Matte paint will not work, as on a sponge-like MDF surface, the formed coating will turn out to be unaesthetic. You will also need to purchase a varnish designed specifically for MDF. It is previously poured into a prepared container to get rid of the air bubbles present. A door covered with varnish can be installed even in the bathroom;
  • Highly adhesive. Considering the characteristics of the substrate, it is important to ensure that the formed coating and surface adhere firmly. The level of adhesion of the composition is indicated on the package;
  • With little expense. This will reduce painting costs;
  • The right color. The painted door should blend in harmoniously with the surrounding interior.

Advice! When determining the right amount of paint, remember that you will have to update the surface of not only the door leaf, but also the frame. In order for the paint and varnish material to be exactly enough, 10% is added to the calculated amount.

The canvas and the box do not have to be painted in the same tone. Depending on the chosen stylistic design for the canvas, you can purchase paint of one color, and for the box - a contrasting one. When choosing, remember that if the area of the painted surface is relatively small, then the color appears slightly darker.

How to paint the MDF surface correctly?

For the result to please, carefully prepare for the work, and also follow their sequence. In this case, the finished result will delight and will certainly last for a long time.

Cooking the tool

To start painting, prepare the following:

  • Brushes. You will need a narrow brush for small details and a little more for the canvas. Instead of a larger brush, a roller or spray gun will do;
  • Container for stirring paint. Its volume should be sufficient to accommodate all the paint. Especially if it is planned to carry out tinting manually;
  • A mixer or drill with a nozzle, with the help of which it is easier to ensure uniform mixing of the composition;
  • Working container for paint. Choose a relatively small volume. A special plastic bath is suitable if it is decided to take a roller for work;
  • Scotch tape, stencils, sponges, if it is planned to form a pattern on the door leaf;
  • Zero sandpaper.

For yourself, it is advisable to purchase gloves. Make sure you have clean rags and thinner to wipe up any accidental drops of paint. You will need a sufficient amount of paper for the floor and a beam on which the door leaf will lie during painting.

Preparing the base

In order for MDF doors to acquire an aesthetic appearance, they must be carefully prepared for painting. To do this, the door is removed from the hinges and completely freed from the fittings. If desired, you can later install new handles, locks and hinges. This will further transform the appearance of the door.

Dismantling the door

The canvas is laid on a bar lying on the floor. Placed strictly horizontally to avoid visible streaks. The old coating is removed from the surface by heating or using special chemical compounds. The first option is better, since it excludes wetting and swelling of the wood fiber material

The base is carefully polished. It is better to refuse to use a special tool so as not to damage the material. The removed layers of material are carefully collected. With their help, you can prepare a putty for MDF. You just need to add some wood glue. This mixture can be used to get rid of defects on the surface of the door leaf. Particular attention is paid to the place of insertion of the lock and handle. During the operation of the door, defects always appear in this zone that need to be removed.

Sanding the door leaf

Let's start painting

First, a primer is applied to the surface to be painted. Before this, the surface is thoroughly dried and dedusted. This will allow:

  • Level the surface;
  • Reduce paint consumption;
  • To increase the adhesion characteristics of the base;
  • Form a layer of paint of the same thickness.

Attention! When applying a primer, it will certainly be possible to detect defects that previously remained invisible.

If defects are found, scratches, cracks and small chips are masked with a putty. Then the putty surface is sanded and another layer of primer is applied. After waiting for the primer to dry completely, paint hard-to-reach places with the thinnest brush.

Then, armed with a roller, spray gun or larger brush, paint the canvas completely. To get a uniform layer, it is advisable to apply another coat of paint.

Paint application

Attention! Each subsequent layer is applied after the previous one has completely dried. It is better to refuse the use of fan heaters so as not to deteriorate the quality of the formed coating.

If you want to paint a door from MDF, feel free to get to work! You can even change the color of the door leaf at home. A well-chosen composition and a properly prepared surface will allow you to quickly achieve the desired result.
