Interior of children's clinic. Children's hospital, in which it is not scary: Experience of foreign designers

Cabinets and corridors, sounds and smells of the hospital make this place terrifying for children. But the hospital should not unail fear. The British Art Organization Vital Arts, responsible for the introduction of art to British hospitals, united 15 artists to turn the interior of the Royal Children's Hospital of London in an amazing and colorful place.

Despite the fact that the hospital should constantly clean, the artists were still able to use vinyl, ceramics, wood and even carpets to revive these hospital walls. Each artist created his unique style.

2. The work of the artist includes animals and flowers on the walls. Alternatively, only doors and medical automatic doors remain untouched. Large drawings have many details and each time you can find something new in them.
3. Traumatology and gastroenterology from Morag Myerscough.
4. The artist tried to portray all the images that kept in memory over the years and splashed them in creativity. Thus, the elements of the circus, art deco, Asian culture, Victorian architecture appeared on the walls, and this is not a complete list. Initially, the artist all moved to paper in the form of a sketch, and then on the walls.
5. The goal began to make chambers bringing the joy to young patients and their parents, make them warm and hospitable.
6. Hematology from Donna Wilson.
7. The goal of Donna was not to make a hospital as ordinary hospitals. She wanted patients, parents and medical staff to feel calm and relaxed and that the wall design lifted the mood.
8. The reaction of children and parents was awesome.
9. Waiting room from Chris Hotonomom.
10. Chris decided to draw in each room of animals, lions, fish, etc.
11. In the corridors, vinyl was used to create an image of animals in full size.
12. Department of Pulmonology from Miller Gudman.
13. Wood is a traditional warm material that was used and used to create toys. And very often the tree brings pleasant memories of childhood. The combination of bright vinyl colors and wooden characters really like children.

Painting of the Hospice walls of the Marfo-Mariinsky monastery. He is responsible, not easy and fine was the task of artists who were entrusted to arrange two large chambers in the premises of the children's hospice. We certainly wanted to note a very high quality and complete filling of these chambers: from furniture and special equipment to refrigerators, plasma panels, to pretty ceiling lamps, sconce and good plumbing. Decent color and graphic gamut of ceramic bathroom tiles. Calm and optimistic (as far as possible this term in the hospice room) flashes the curtains on the windows, the color covered beds and sofas, gentle painting of the bottom of the walls of both chambers - all this indicates that the choice was non-random, on the professional work of the architect. In one of the chambers, the architect proposed his own version of the "watercolor", in places the extremely "foggy" painting of walls depicting good animals: a fox with lisyats, a couple of bunnies, a deer with a deer and a deer. The difficulty of execution for artists was to find a compromise in the naturalisticness of their poses and regulations in the space of painting and at the request of the architect to leave them some kind of "cartoon" with an absolutely "watercolor" back background of mural. It should be noted that the cartoon is necessary in this real situation (the Chamber was intended for the smallest patients), but it was necessary to withstand the balance of fine funds. In addition, artists had to paintly paint the back plan, not only retaining his ease, but also giving him some materiality, which made it possible to create a single fine space, somewhat modifying some details of the sketch, but by developing its main components already as a decorative wall painting. In another wall chamber (0.8 meters from the floor) and the ceiling were covered with painting in the style of airbrushing. In such a size, the painting of airbrushing requires special care in working out, which naturally requires a lot of time that the artist who performs painting in this technique did not quite seem. As a result, the lubricant of the borders, uniformity in working out volumes, indifference and equal scale in color and graphic solution. All this created in the ward a dreary, strongly autumn mood of unemployed sleep. In addition to the above, the language of painting and the complete absence of anyone living in the image created the impression of the world frozen forever. The customer, understanding this, asked the artists to make new elements in the wall, without rewriting it entirely. And then this dead space of branches and trunks "settled" many multicolored flying, sitting, singing and whistling birds - it turned out a real paradise garden.

The hospital has its own logic and the structure subordinate to it - in order to "think" such space, make it a comfortable for the child, you need to take into account the many nuances. We tell how overseas designers and architects are coping with this task for three projects implemented in the UK.

British designer Morag Mayersko is well known for his love for bright colors - for whatever it takes, it turns out to be alive and emotionally. The Design Project of the Children's Hospital in Sheffield did not exception, only here with flowers had to work especially accurately: first, the space should not irritate children with autism, and secondly, it should be comfortable not only for kids, but also for the children of the senior age. The main task of the architect was to give hospital chambers more home. Meyersko designed forty-six bedrooms, bathrooms and hols for sharing. It did not change it: the space turned out to be multicolored, but not bright - muffled tones perform the same function as saturated, but at the same time the sensitive children's mind is not annoyed.

In addition, it is important in the hospital environment so that everything remains sterile, which means easily and cleaned. Mayersko solves this task with the help of plastic laminate. Wooden panels in the chambers are also sealed and wash in the same way as the walls. The company-producer of paper-layered plastic Formica helped the designer's idea. Their panels are executed and another important function - hide medical equipment, wires and cables. This allows you to make space more comfortable, suitable for a long stay in it in it.

Morag Meerso interior designerAlthough the chambers are intended for children, I did not want them to look childish. Instead, I tried to make them comfortable and such that would like the children of different ages and remained comfortable for their parents visiting them, "I wanted to just make a room in which everyone would be fine. The most difficult was to print on the laminate wooden panels of clean, present color. Due to the peculiarities of production, it was not easy, and the process took the year. As a result, everything turned out, and the woody warmth managed to save.

The British architectural bureau KEPPIE in working on a project of a children's hospital in Glasgow put the same task - to make space comfortable for a long stay in him and their parents. Campus designed by order of the Ronald McDonald House charitable organization is intended to ensure that parents can live here with their children while treating treatment. Bedrooms, relaxation rooms, kitchen and gaming room - everything, according to architects, should resemble a house. Keppie concentrated on the layout of the building and its design. Two spacious courtyards on both sides of the central building must resemble the children a playground for games near the house, and the material selected for construction is a coarse white brick - relatives to the hospital with a rural house. To achieve more similarities with a private house, architects used rectangular erkers, multifaceted protrusions with windows in the building wall.

The interior corresponds to the facade: natural materials, muted tones and accurate detail - all this creates an image of a comfortable home-commune.

David Ross representative Keppie Design in GlasgowThe hospital has its own logic and function, our task was to preserve them, but to get away from unpleasant associations, which usually cause health categories. The structure has a simple and strict facade, but at the same time does not look like a hospital. Buildings we joined each other with spacious corridors, windows that go to the courtyard. The courtyard also protects against the noise of the rods of Govan Road buses and screaming ambulances. It is a great honor for us - to work on a project for children who are experiencing such a difficult period of their lives. In this case, the design should be purely humanistic principles - trying to make hospital space as much as possible.

Designers of London Jason Bruges Studio found a simpler way to transform the hospital. For a children's hospice for Great-Ormond Street, they implemented the Nature Trail interactive project, which should smooth out the unpleasant impressions of the child from visiting the operating room. On the wall in the corridor, designers posted a large digital panel, depicting forest inhabitants: hotels, heels, birds and frogs. 72 000 LED elements were integrated into the order, which bezed in different sequences, force forests to occur on the wallpaper and seem to run on the wall of the wall - all the designers came up with 70 pictures. All of them are located at different levels, to be visible both small and older children.

Jason Brajes creator of interactive architectural integrations, founder of Jason Bruges Studio"Natural trail" is the road for which a small patient makes his trip on the way to operating room: so we wanted to distract it and calm it. The walls are converted to the canvas, on which the forest beings come to life. They protrude through the trees and foliage and follow the child. To create interactive animations, we used 70 LED panels with different animals and a total of 72,000 LEDs.

In the picture: Design of the Reception Zone in the Children's Medical Center

The design of the Children's Medical Center is the very case when it is required to combine the experience of public institutions and an approach applied to the interiors of rooms for kids. Friendliness, convenience and security are the main criteria for which it is necessary to navigate with the arrangement of therapeutic and wellness institutions for children. It is important to understand that for kids a visit to a doctor is associated with various fears. To visit the healthcare institution did not provoke hysterics and protests, designers seek to create a cozy home atmosphere in medical centers. Let for a kid a visit to the doctor will turn into a kind of game.

The design zone of the reception of the Children's Medical Center performs, above all, the presentation function. The visitor must immediately understand where the administrator's rack is. The ideal is considered the design of the medical center, which already at the entrance inspires visitors to confidence. Patients must be confident that they are waiting for first-class service and treatment in accordance with modern technologies. Agree that the reception area decorated in the spirit of the Soviet Hospital is unlikely to cope with such tasks. In the recent interior project of the Children's Medical Center, Olga Kondratov Studio Designers decided to make an administrator rack in the marine style. Reminded with chalk pattern on the asphalt classics at the entrance bring the element of the game in the design. And the administrator rack, stylized under the shipboard, creates adventure motifs. The design zone of the reception is used simple, but high-quality finishing materials: wood, concrete, brick. This finish is characterized by high wear resistance, which is especially important for premises with high permeability. For the interior, a beige-brown gamma was chosen, diluted with blue accents. The mustard armcha installed next to the column creates an additional place to expect.

And here is another example of the interior of the reception area in the Children's Medical Center. White color base here is diluted with juicy green paints. The wall painting with the image of the protected forest creates a soothing atmosphere. An interesting solution is a built-in white cabinet in the form of a house, which becomes part of the art composition.

Game room design in the Children's Medical Center

In the photo: the design of the game area in the Children's Medical Center

Game in the Children's Medical Center is a necessity, not an excess. Here, children will always find something to do while adults communicate with the doctor, are waiting for the results of the studies. The design presented in the photo game in the medical center is an example of successful zoning. Please note that the transparent partition is separated from the waiting area. Thanks to this, the parent will be able to be in the room for expectation, watch his child. The game is divided into a sports corner with a Swedish wall, a rope and a mat and a session for creativity, where children's tables and chairs are installed. The racks in the shape of a house are in charge of books, toys and objects for creativity. On a white brick wall there is a place for children's drawings. The colorastic base, selected for this design project, is characterized by neutrality. Juicy green shades revolve bright monochrome space.

The design of the waiting area in the Children's Medical Center, the project of which was developed in the Olga Kondhatech studio, resolved in a modern style. The brickwork on the wall brings the loophob's motifs to the premises, which are supported by ceiling beams. The purpose of the premises implies focusing on comfortable areas for recreation. Therefore, the main attention was paid here to search for comfortable and comfortable upholstered furniture. The mustard and blue chairs in the spirit of the 60s revitalize the space where the shades of a natural tree dominate.

Design bathrooms in the Children's Medical Center

In the photo: the first version of the interior of the bathroom in the Children's Medical Center

In the interior of the bathroom in the Children's Medical Center, you can afford various colorful experiments. For convenience, it is worth installing not only standard plumbing, but also a children's toilet. In order for the kids to be more convenient to wash the handles, the sink can be fixed at a low level.

In the photo: In the second interior of the bathroom in the Children's Medical Center, light green tones are used

For the interior of the bathroom in the Children's Medical Center, Olga Kondratov Studio Designers offered two options for design. The first solution with the use of brown-blue shades is interesting to its wall painting with seagulls. In the second version of the interior of the bathroom in the Children's Medical Center, laminate or parquet in the floor decoration is replaced by the tile. Light green tones are dominated here, and the drawings on the walls seem to be borrowed from the pages of a children's book.

Features of the interior design of the Children's Medical Center

So, for the design of the medical center for children, the following features are characterized:

  • Each room in the institution corresponds to its intended purpose, but at the same time zones and cabinets do not look different, together they work on the unity of design.
  • Careful disguise medical instruments. Children react very sharply to diagnostic equipment and strank items. Therefore, all tools in the cabinets doctors should be removed. This will avoid unnecessary whims and not provoke unnecessary fears from a child.
  • Safety. Almost all children are distinguished by high mobility. It is difficult for them in place while their parents discuss important issues with doctors. And therefore, when developing the design of the children's medical center, it is important to take care that children can freely move through the corridors, without being risks, accidentally stumble upon sharp corners or slip on slippery floor. In the office of doctors you can even think about soft flooring, providing comfort and safety. Of course, the decoration and furniture elements themselves must be made of environmentally friendly materials. Pay attention to the fact that there are both wallpapers now and paints designed specifically for the repair of premises for children.
  • A large number of tariffs attracting the attention of the child: wall painting, toys, posters, books and paintings. A visit to the doctor should remind the baby an exciting adventure, and not be an unpleasant routine necessity. Toys will not be superfluous not only in the expectation zone, but also in the offices of experts. If the child starts to be capricious, it can be distracted.
  • When designing the interior design of the Children's Medical Center, it is important to take into account the interests of not only visitors, but also employees. Therefore, the cabinets must be comfortable for medical personnel, providing them with safe working conditions. If the facility of the institution allows you to envisage separate rooms for recreation and snacks for employees.
