Recommendations for installing blinds (how to hang them correctly). Installing blinds on plastic windows: mounting options, video instructions Hang blinds on plastic windows with your own hands

It is not so difficult to hang new vertical blinds with fabric slats bought in a store or ordered via the Internet. You don't need to have any special skills for this. It is enough to tune in to a working mood, find 2-3 free hours and provide yourself with all the necessary tools. And of course, you will need a detailed step-by-step guide on how to install vertical blinds yourself. We invite you to familiarize yourself with it in this article.

Installation options and required tools

Depending on the size of the curtains, windows and vision of the interior, there are three ways to hang vertical blinds with fabric slats:

  • into the window opening;
  • on the wall directly above the window;
  • on the ceiling (the latter method is especially relevant when blinds are used for zoning space).

Three main ways of attaching fabric vertical blinds

When the blinds are planned to be installed on the ceiling, you can make any vertical indent from the window. The same distance for wall mounting is limited by the length of the standard bracket, which is 150 cm.

If you need to make a wall indent longer than 150mm, use the bracket with an extension

We will need:

  1. Perforator.
  2. Drill bit for concrete 6-8 mm.
  3. Self-tapping screws and dowels 6-8 mm.
  4. Roulette or ruler.
  5. Level.
  6. Pencil.
  7. Screwdriver.

In addition, if it becomes necessary to shorten the slats or reduce the overall width of the blinds, you will need scissors, threads, needles and a hacksaw.

In order to install vertical blinds, you really do not need to have special training. However, if, nevertheless, any breakdowns occurred during the procedure, then repair under warranty, exchange or return of the product will be impossible.

Operating procedure

Do-it-yourself vertical blinds installation consists of the following steps:

Step 1

We lay out all the details on the desktop or on the floor and check whether everything is in place in accordance with the package contents.

A standard set with blinds for plastic windows should include: 2 fastening brackets, self-tapping screws, a profile cornice, fabric slats with weights already inserted into them and a chain connecting them from below.

Step 2

Before attaching vertical blinds, make sure they are of the correct length. To do this, you need to attach one of the lamellas to the place where the cornice will be located. The distance from its lower edge to the window sill (or the floor, if it is supposed to hang the blinds to the floor) should be at least 1.5-2 cm. Otherwise, the slats should be shortened. You can also do this procedure yourself: pull out the weighting materials, trim off the excess, hem the edges and insert the weighting materials into place.

Step 3

We attach the cornice to the plane of attachment, whether it is a ceiling, a wall or a window opening, set it to a level and make marks from the right and left ends.

How the following steps are performed correctly depends on the chosen installation method:

If you chose to mount vertical blinds to the ceiling, step back from the previously set 2.5-3 cm marks to the center and add new marks.

If you intend to attach a curtain rod for vertical blinds to the wall, the distance from the old marks towards the center should be 5.5-6 cm;

If the curtains attached to the cornice are installed in the window opening, it is not required to mark the location of the ends of the cornice in advance, and the final marks are placed, stepping back from the outer edges of the opening to a depth of 2.5-3 cm.

After all the necessary marks are installed, you need to attach fasteners to them and put points with a pencil in places where you will then drill holes. As a result, there should be two labels on the right and left. Before hanging the fasteners, make sure that they are selected according to the sides (right and left).

If the width of the blinds is more than 1.6 m, 10-12 cm from the adjusting cord, then an additional middle mount should be provided.

Step 4

Now is the time to drill the holes. Do not go deeper than 4-5 cm.

Step 5

We fasten the left and right fasteners with self-tapping screws to the corresponding places.

Step 6

Now you can insert the curtain rod into place and close it with the fasteners locks, turning the levers clockwise. If brackets are used as fastening, the cornice must be screwed to them.

Step 7
Step 8

We attach the lower connecting chain to the weighting materials. First, we fix it on the outside of each lamella, then cut off the excess and do the same procedure on the inside.

All steps have been completed. We have completely finished installing the vertical blinds. It remains only to test the operability of the mechanism and set the desired position of the lamellas at the moment. We not only significantly saved on installation, but also got satisfaction from the fact that we were able to accurately, quickly and correctly hang with our own hands, without resorting to the help of professionals.

How to hang blinds? This can be done with your own hands, without spending money on calling the master. The blinds themselves are a unique device that allows you to hide from the rays of the sun and prying eyes. In principle, the fastening is not difficult, but it differs directly by the method of hanging the canvases on the windows, including both the technical and design components. Initially, you need to figure out what types of blinds exist in general.

Varieties of blinds

There are two broad categories of blinds:

  • vertical products;
  • horizontal analogs.

The latter can be mounted inside the frame, the difference is that the structure must be attached exclusively to the frame. Also, horizontal blinds can be mounted over the frame. Then it is possible to mount the product either to the frame or to the upper slope. In the latter case, it will be necessary to create holes. But to attach the product to the frame is easy. You will need to use ordinary screws or you can give preference to linings that are sold in specialized stores.

In addition, there are different types of horizontal blinds. Features of each type of blinds, including vertical ones, are shown in the table.

Peculiarities

Vertical

The fastening of such products should be carried out above the window opening (usually fixed directly to the ceiling). Long models are often used as an alternative to curtains.

Horizontal

Such designs are considered the most common. Their fastening is possible in three ways:

  • on each part of the frame separately;
  • inside the window;
  • outside - on the sashes or on the window itself.

Roll

Such products are gaining more and more popularity. Their attachment can be done in one of three ways:

  • using self-tapping screws;
  • by means of brackets;
  • using adhesive tape.

This is one of the newest types of blinds made from thick paper. Plisse can be hung exclusively from inside the house in front of the window surface.

Thread

Delicate products should be fixed exclusively in the upper part using a special rail. You can hang curtains exclusively from the inside in front of the window opening.

This type of structure looks impressive, but caring for it is quite difficult. Products are made of dense fabric, and fastening is carried out directly to the frame or above it by means of brackets.

Attention! The price of such products is slightly higher than analogues due to the naturalness of the material.

It is important to understand that you will not be able to attach vertical structures directly to the frame. Here, fastening is possible exclusively by drilling. In general, the only difference between vertical blinds is their length. There may be standard models, the length of which corresponds to the length of the transparent part of the window, or even the length to the floor, which resembles classic curtains.

In accordance with the characteristics of the products, there are also different types of fasteners.:

  • inside the sashes (it is suitable for fixing horizontal interframe blinds);
  • to the ceiling or to the wall under the window (the method is relevant for vertical blinds);
  • overlay on the sash, no drilling required (this way you can fix all types of horizontal blinds);
  • to the upper slope, drilling is necessary (the method is in demand for attaching any type of blinds, with the exception of interframe and attic blinds).

What is necessary?

Everything that is needed should be prepared in advance so as not to be distracted later. First, you will need a drill and drill (it is recommended to be guided in the choice by the type of walls). You also need to choose brackets and a socket wrench if you plan to mount it overlay. Further, the tools are standard for all fastening methods:

  • ordinary pencil;
  • a screwdriver (a Phillips screwdriver is required), it can be replaced with a screwdriver;
  • roulette.

The tools are the same regardless of where the blinds will be mounted, for example, on a balcony, on aluminum or wooden windows. It is recommended that you additionally familiarize yourself with the diagrams that allow you to more accurately understand how the hanging is performed correctly, for example, “Day-Night” blinds or fabric analogs.

How to hang vertical curtains?

How to hang vertical curtains? There are two ways:

  • directly to the ceiling;
  • over the window using the wall bracket.

The principle of fixing to the ceiling assumes the following algorithm:

  1. The clips must be attached to the ceiling surface. In this case, work is carried out at such a distance that subsequently the battery is completely closed.
  2. The cornice must be attached to the clips. This requires a little effort until you hear a characteristic "click".
  3. Next, it remains to close the slats into the runners, waiting for a characteristic click. Remember to make sure all strips are securely attached.
  4. Next, you need to insert weights into special pockets from the bottom of the lamellas. In this case, the weights should be positioned so that the “eyelet” is at the top.
  5. The strips need to be fastened with a chain. This will eliminate the scattering of the lamellas, for example, in a draft.

The blinds are now fully assembled and ready for use. If everything is done correctly, the windows will be aesthetically pleasing.

Fastening of structures of horizontal and roll type

Recommendations for fastening structures of roll and horizontal type will allow you to do this work correctly. The procedure assumes the use of suitable brackets. With their help, it will be possible to fix roller or horizontal curtains on windows of any type, including inclined ones.

So, the instructions for installing horizontal curtains are as follows:

  • attach brackets at the top of the sash;
  • place the corners at the bottom;
  • place the cables in the bushings;
  • using springs, secure the bushings, placing the products along the edges of the cornice;
  • pass the cord through the slats;
  • place the corners at the bottom of the window;
  • mount the handle;
  • make sure the structure is working properly.

It is also easy to fix the roll structure:

  • the brackets are fixed with self-tapping screws on both sides of the window;
  • a latch is installed on the pipe;
  • then insert the finished structure into the bracket;
  • now they hang a weight from below;
  • the adjusting cord is fixed under the cover.

What else to consider?

It is important to know what else to consider before buying and installing a product. In particular, you need to correctly measure the window opening before purchasing blinds. To select vertical blinds, you need to measure the width of the window and add 20 cm to the resulting value, 1-2 cm are subtracted from the height.To select the blinds that are attached to the window slope, you need to subtract 2 cm from the measured width.

If you plan to hang products on the sash, you need to measure it differently. In particular, you need to measure the width from glazing bead to glazing bead (the width of glazing bead should also be taken into account). The measurement of the height depends on the method of subsequent fastening.

Important! It is recommended to recheck measurements at several points. This will eliminate the possibility of error. It should be borne in mind that you can neither increase nor shorten the lamellas, therefore, the finished product will depend on the initial data.

  1. Before ordering blinds, find out what exactly is included in the kit for the indicated price. In some cases, the price includes only the canvas, and the components must be purchased separately.
  2. If you find defects, immediately contact the company for replacement.
  3. Curtains should be used carefully so as not to damage the product.
  4. Pay attention to the lamellas during installation. If they move smoothly, then the product will serve for an extremely long time.
  5. Consider the material, focusing on the room where the blinds will be located.

It is quite possible to hang the blinds with your own hands. There is no need to call professionals. It is important to follow general guidelines and use the right tools. However, if there is a possibility of damage to the product, it is best to entrust the work to specialists.

After you, most likely, you will immediately have a question about the need to install blinds. In most cases, blinds are not just an element of window decoration - they are a means of protecting from the sun, it is about blinds that we want to tell you today, telling about their advantages, types and methods of DIY installation.

The content of the article:

Do I need to install blinds on windows

Someone thinks that blinds are just a necessity, and someone - on the contrary, that they are not needed, so who is right in this situation !? In fact, there are no right and wrong in this situation, since the need to install blinds is an exclusively subjective opinion. This opinion is based on two factors: personal taste and necessity. Thus, we can draw a small conclusion that blinds are installed in two cases: if you like them and / or if you need them. Let's take a closer look at these two factors.

Many people like blinds because of their beauty, because there are several types of them, which we will talk about a little later. With the help of blinds, you can visually decorate the window, especially using blinds of a certain color or with different patterns, which will perfectly fit into the interior of the room, and also "thematically" transform the window. Many people prefer blinds, because they can be used to replace curtains and curtains that many are already tired of.

As for the need for blinds, they help protect from the sun's rays. If your windows face the east, south or west side, then in the summer, direct sunlight will bring you great discomfort.

Firstly, due to direct sunlight, the air temperature in the room rises significantly. By installing blinds, the temperature in the room will be several degrees lower, as they will prevent direct sunlight from entering. In addition, blinds are necessary if you have an air conditioner, otherwise it will cool the air in the room longer, and the reached temperature will be quickly lost. Therefore, in order not to force the air conditioner to work unnecessarily, it is necessary to install blinds.

Secondly, due to direct sunlight, the room becomes very bright and discomfort is experienced from this, especially negatively for those whose windows face the east side, when the sun begins to shine in the eyes in the early morning. Also, blinds are necessary if you have a not very beautiful landscape outside your window - the blinds will hide all this beautifully. Well, another small positive thing about the blinds is that they close the room from the sun's rays, so furniture, paint, wallpaper and window profiles on the inside are less susceptible to fading.

Types of blinds

Today there are 3 types of window blinds:
  • Horizontal;

  • Vertical;

  • Tissue.
Blinds can be made from a wide variety of materials:
  • Aluminum;

  • Plastic;

  • Wood;

  • Textile;

  • Bamboo;

  • Etc.
The choice of the type and material of blinds depends solely on your preferences. If you prefer classics and simplicity, then these are uniquely horizontal aluminum blinds. If you do not plan to hang curtains and curtains or want to install blinds instead, then the best option is vertical blinds. If you want something beautiful and elegant - choose fabric blinds, they are very beautiful, besides, they are, unlike the previous two blinds options. For those who prefer something new or your room is made in some style, we recommend opting for wood or bamboo blinds.

Do-it-yourself blinds installation

An integral part of the blinds installation is their measurement. If the measurement is made incorrectly, then it may not only not look aesthetically pleasing, but also negatively affect the window profile.

Measurement of horizontal and fabric blinds

There are 2 options for fixing blinds: on the glazing beads and on the profile. Of course, if you want to attach the blinds to the glazing beads, then you must be very careful in choosing the length of the self-tapping screw, since a long self-tapping screw can damage the glass of the glass unit, which ultimately will lead to depressurization of the entire glass unit and negatively affect its thermal insulation properties. Installation of blinds on the profile of a plastic window is easier, there is no danger, but it is one thing when a hole is made in a glazing bead that can be easily replaced, and another - when the hole is in the profile. Personally, we recommend that you give preference to attaching the blinds to glazing beads, and, if possible, to fasteners with double-sided tape, this method does not require making extra holes in the window.

The width of the horizontal blinds is measured: from the left edge of the left glazing bead to the right edge of the right glazing bead. In the same way, the height of the blinds is measured: from the upper part of the upper glazing bead to the lower part of the lower glazing bead. It is important to consider one point: how you will attach the blinds. If you want to reinforce the blinds on the glazing beads, and at the same time install the lower clips also on the glazing beads, then the length of the blinds must strictly correspond to the distance from the bases of the glazing beads.

We decided to show the measurement of the blinds in the picture below. Beads are shown in blue - plastic strips that fix the glass unit to the profile. The red lines show the boundaries along which it is necessary to measure the window, taking into account our recommendations.

Measurement of vertical blinds

In turn, measuring vertical blinds is an easier process, since there are no special nuances here. The peculiarity of the measurement is how you want to fix the blinds. There are three types of mounting for vertical blinds:

  • To the top of the window slope;

  • Above the window opening (like a regular cornice);

  • To the ceiling.
Each of these options has its own advantages - consider them.

If you want to limit direct sunlight into the apartment, and at the same time prefer vertical blinds, then it is best to attach them to the upper part of the window slope - this type of fastening has a more beautiful appearance. If you want to completely hide the window behind the blinds, or you have plastic slopes, then you can fix the vertical blinds above the window opening. If you want to install blinds instead of curtains and stretch them along a large window opening or across the entire wall, then you need to attach the blinds to the ceiling.

If the blinds will be installed in the window opening, then their width should be equal to the width of the window opening, and the length should be strictly from the upper slope to the window sill, even a little shorter so that they do not cling to the window sill. If you want the blinds to protrude beyond the perimeter of the window opening, then the width of the blinds must be made with an allowance of 15-20 cm, and you can make the height either with an allowance of 20-30 cm more than the height of the window opening, or even make the blinds to the floor. If you want blinds to the floor, then we recommend giving preference to blinds on the whole wall - such blinds and the type of their attachment will look very beautiful.

When your measurements are ready, you can go to the company that manufactures the blinds, or order them through the online store, which will be cheaper and easier. The only thing that you will need to choose is the color of the blinds and to clarify whether fastening materials are included with the blinds.

Blinds installation

How to install blinds on plastic windows? Now let's get down to the fun part - editing. Horizontal and vertical blinds have different mounting methods, so we will tell you about them separately.

Installation of horizontal blinds

To install horizontal blinds, you need a screwdriver or screwdriver and a pencil. The installation procedure is very simple. We put brackets on the upper part of the blinds and measure in which part the self-tapping screw should be screwed in and mark it with a pencil. It is very good if the brackets are attached to one self-tapping screw in order to make fewer holes in the window. So, when the attachment point is outlined, we check the correctness of everything and remove the brackets. First we take one bracket, apply it to the intended area and screw in a self-tapping screw. After that, we do the same with the second bracket. Then we put the blinds on the brackets and in the same way we fix the clamps on the sides from the bottom of the blinds. We check if everything works, and proceed to the installation of blinds on the rest of the window.

As for horizontal fabric blinds, the principle of their installation is somewhat different from the above. As a rule, this type of blinds is attached to brackets that are fixed to the window on an adhesive base, that is, simply put, they are glued to the profile. As well as horizontal blinds, fabrics are fixed at the bottom.

You will learn more about the installation of horizontal and fabric blinds from the videos below.

Installation of vertical blinds

Installation of vertical blinds has 2 types of installation. The first type of installation is when the eaves of vertical blinds are attached to the ceiling or to the upper slope. The second type of installation is when the curtain rod of the blind is attached to brackets that are fixed to the wall.

In the first type of installation, in the middle of the cornice there are special mounting holes through which screws are screwed in, fixing the structure to the ceiling or to the slope. To fix the cornice, you need to attach the cornice itself, then you need to outline where to make holes for fastening. Use a puncher to make holes and drive dowels into them. Please note that if you make holes in the slope with a puncher, then be careful not to break off part of the wall. After you have driven the dowels into the holes, apply the cornice and fix it with screws.

With the second type of installation, you first need to fix the brackets on the wall, after which the cornice is put on them. Before marking the areas in which the brackets will be fixed, it is necessary to attach the cornice and take measurements. After that, we make holes in the designated areas, drive dowels into them and then fix the brackets with a screw. At the end of the installation work, we fix the cornices on the brackets.

The next stage in the installation of blinds is their assembly. Unlike horizontal and fabric blinds, vertical blinds need to be assembled, but not difficult. To do this, you need to collect all the sliders together and turn them with the notches towards you. Then we take the slats and insert them into the runners, when the slats are tightly fastened, a click will sound. Then weights are inserted into the lower part of the lamellas and fixed with a chain. After that, check the operability of the mechanism and proceed with attaching the decorative panels to the cornice.

Blinds installation video guide

This video demonstrates the installation process of horizontal blinds. In the used method of installation, the brackets are attached directly to the profile with self-tapping screws, and not to the glazing beads.

In this video, you can familiarize yourself with the installation of fabric blinds, the brackets of which are also attached to the profile with self-tapping screws, and not glued to it.

The last video will show you how to install and assemble vertical blinds.

If you bought or ordered vertical or horizontal blinds, then we suggest you install them yourself, because you can cope with this task even without experience, the main thing is to have a desire, 1 hour of free time and a few tools.

Attention! Installation of blinds does not require special skills, but keep in mind that any breakdowns that occur in the process of independent work will exclude the possibility of warranty repair, exchange / return of curtains.

Depending on the type of curtains, your preferences and conditions, blinds are installed:

  • In the window opening;
  • On the wall;
  • On the ceiling;
  • On the window itself.

We have compiled 3 step-by-step instructions and a selection of useful videos with which you can mount horizontal and vertical blinds of any kind in any way.

To install horizontal blinds on a wall or ceiling, as well as to install vertical blinds above a window, you need to prepare:

  1. Electric drill with a drill for concrete 6-8 mm;
  2. Self-tapping screws and dowels 6-8 mm;
  3. Roulette or ruler and level;
  4. Pencil;
  5. Phillips screwdriver or screwdriver;
  6. If necessary, shortening and cutting curtains in width: hacksaw, scissors, threads, needles.

Installation instructions for horizontal blinds on the wall / to the ceiling

To properly install the blinds to the wall or ceiling, you need to do the following.

Step 1. We check the complete set of curtains and lay out all the details on the work surface.

Make sure the curtain kit includes: 2 pcs universal blinds fasteners. (or standard brackets), screws, shutters themselves assembled. If you are installing blinds with a width of more than 2 m, then an intermediate fastener must be attached to the set of fasteners, which will fix the curtain in the middle, preventing it from sagging.

Step 2. We apply the curtains to the wall / ceiling, determine the exact place of their installation and mark the left and right edges of the curtain rod with a tape measure and a level. Further from each mark (in the direction to the sides from the center) we make an indent of 2-3 cm and also put marks - these are the places for installing the fasteners-brackets.

Step 3. Now we apply the right and left fasteners to these marks and mark the exact drilling spots right along the screw holes. We drill these marks with a drill. The drilling depth should be 3-4 cm.

Step 5. If you are installing blinds with a width of more than 2 m, then at this stage you need to install intermediate fasteners. To do this, mark the middle between the already installed fasteners and repeat the actions from steps 3 and 4.

Tip: for the reliability of installation of heavy aluminum, bamboo and wooden curtains, intermediate fasteners are also installed 10 cm from the adjusting thread, since this place has a large load.

Step 6. Insert and close the upper curtain rod of the blinds in the locks of the brackets. If these are standard brackets, then the cornice is simply screwed to them with screws.

Instructions for installing horizontal blinds in a window opening

To install horizontal blinds in a window opening, you need to perform the following work.

Make sure that the blinds are supplied with: fasteners for blinds (brackets) 2 pcs., Screws, the blinds themselves assembled.

Step 2. Try on the curtains to the desired place in the window niche and check if the blinds interfere with opening.

Step 3. Now we apply the right and left fasteners to the upper inner plane of the window niche, stepping back from its walls by 2-3 cm towards the center, then make notes in the places of the fastener holes. This way you will have 2 marks on the right and 2 marks on the left.

Step 4. Now we drill holes using these marks with a drill. The drilling depth should be 3-4 cm.

Step 5. We fasten the right and left fasteners (in accordance with the sides and marks) to the upper plane of the window opening using self-tapping screws.

Step 6. Insert and close the upper curtain rod of the blinds in the locks of the brackets by simply turning and / or pressing the lever clockwise. If you use ordinary brackets for fastening, then the curtain rod of the blind is simply screwed on.

Installation instructions for vertical blinds to the ceiling / wall and in the window opening

Do-it-yourself vertical blinds installation involves the following steps:

Step 1. We check the complete set and lay out all the parts on the work surface.

The set of vertical blinds includes: fasteners for blinds (brackets) 2 pcs., Screws, cornice, the curtains themselves disassembled (slats with weights, lower connecting chain).

Step 2. Before installing the blinds, you need to make sure that their length suits you. To do this, attach one lamella to the desired location on the ceiling / wall / upper plane of the window opening. If the distance from the bottom of the curtains to the window sill or floor is less than 1-2 cm, then it is better to shorten the lamellas. You can do this with your own hands: get the weighting materials, cut off the excess and hem the edges back.

Step 3. Now you need to attach the cornice to the ceiling / wall of the window opening, align and mark its right and left ends.

Then we do the following:

  • If you install vertical blinds to the ceiling, then from the previously set marks we indent 2 -3 cm towards the center and put the marks again;
  • If you want to install blinds to the wall, then from the previously set marks we make an indent of 5-6 cm towards the center and also put marks.

If you are installing curtains in the window opening, then you do not need to mark the ends of the cornice, you just need to make notes, stepping back from the walls of the opening 2-3 cm towards the center.

Further, it is on these marks that we apply fasteners for the blinds and mark the places of drilling. This way you will have 2 marks on the right and 2 marks on the left. Remember to fit the fasteners in line with the sides.

Note: for the installation of curtains with a width of more than 1.6 m, an additional intermediate mount must be installed 10 cm from the control cord.

Step 4. Now we drill holes using these marks with a drill. The drilling depth should be 4-5 cm.

Step 5. The right and left fasteners (in accordance with the sides and marks) are screwed to the ceiling / wall with self-tapping screws.

Step 6. Insert and close the curtain rod of the blinds in the fasteners locks by turning and / or pressing the lever clockwise. If you use conventional brackets for fastening, then the cornice is simply screwed to them.

Step 7. By adjusting the cord, turn the sliders so that they turn across the cornice (as shown below in the left photo) and proceed to attaching the slats, simply snapping them into the grooves of the sliders.

Step 8. We attach the lower chain to the lamella weights, first from their outer side, then cut off the excess and do the same on the reverse side of the lamellas, and then with the second part of the lamellas. Well, that's all, the installation of vertical blinds is complete, it remains only to check the operation of the mechanism and adjust the position of the slats.

Below is a video instruction on how to properly install do-it-yourself vertical blinds to the wall.

Blinds have become very popular for modern interiors. They are practical, compact, comfortable, functional, reliably protect from unwanted light and prying eyes. Installation of blinds on plastic windows is very simple, you can install them with your own hands in a matter of minutes, in some cases you don't even need tools.

Types of blinds

For plastic windows, compact horizontal blinds and more comfortable vertical blinds are chosen with equal success. They differ in the way of opening, so in horizontal - the canvas moves up and down, in vertical - to the side.

Classic horizontal models are recruited from lamellas, but now roller blinds, pleated blinds and roman blinds, which also belong to this category of goods, are in no less demand. Basically, they are hung only on a window or on partitions.

The video contains photos of beautiful horizontal blinds in the interior. Please note that the video clearly demonstrates how to combine blinds with traditional curtains, and also contains good examples of how to choose light protection systems for various interior styles.

Vertical blinds take up more space, but they allow you to completely close the opening and even the entire wall. This type is most rational for the design of large areas of glazing, long corridors, openings of complex architectural shapes, for example, curved or arched.

The video below contains beautiful photo examples of various types of blinds.

Where to install

Installation of horizontal blinds is mainly carried out on:

  • sash windows;
  • upper frame profile;
  • on the upper slope of the opening;
  • less often on the pier, if the design features of the opening or the design of the room require it.

Installation of vertical blinds is impossible for technical reasons on the sash or window frame, usually they are mounted on:

  • upper wall;
  • ceiling;
  • horizontal slope of the window, if its width allows.

Installation features

Compact and lightweight horizontal blinds can be mounted without drilling. To do this, use special brackets made of metal or plastic, as well as double-sided tape.

All models that need to be installed on a slope, in a wall or on the ceiling are fixed on special brackets that are attached to the surface with self-tapping screws or dowels.

Installation instruction without drilling

To install blinds without drilling with your own hands, you do not need any tools or even skills, here it is important to correctly calculate the width of the canvas and attach it evenly to the surface.

Clips

Mounting on special brackets-clips is perhaps the easiest way to hang the blinds with your own hands, but this mounting option is possible only on an opening window sash:

  • assemble the curtain rod and canvas according to the manufacturer's instructions;
  • put the clips on the cornice, check if they touch the moving elements and if they interfere with the movement of the cords and chains;
  • attach the cornice to the sash, outline with a simple pencil where to hang the brackets;
  • unfold the canvas, check if it touches the protruding elements of the window, if necessary, the curtain must be adjusted to size: cut in width and shorten;
  • unclip the clips from the eaves, open the sash and put on the brackets according to the marks, make sure that they fit snugly and evenly;
  • you can attach the curtain rod and canvas to it.

On scotch tape

If you are looking for a simple and at the same time reliable way to hang blinds on a plastic window with your own hands and not damage the profile, then the option of attaching it to tape is the most optimal. Here it is important to glue the cornice correctly so that the canvas hangs straight down, without distortions, otherwise there will be ugly overlaps and gaps on the sides and bottom, in the end the blinds will quickly break.

Installation steps:

  • assemble the blinds according to the attached diagram;
  • try on the window, if necessary, cut it from the side and along the length, taking into account that the minimum gap between the canvas and the protruding elements of the window is 5-10 mm;
  • mark the extreme points of the cornice;
  • draw a line between them, ideally it should be strictly parallel to the windowsill;
  • if the geometry of the opening is not ideal, make a plumb line from a rope and a weight, attach it to the marks, outline the side lines where the edges of the canvas will pass, and straighten the line along which the cornice will be glued, let it be better to have a slight skew at the top and bottom than ugly gaps and overlaps on the sides;
  • wipe the place where the cornice is fixed with a solvent or acetone;
  • remove the protective film from the double-sided tape, and glue the cornice strictly along the line;
  • check the operation of the canvas, if it clings somewhere, then it will be correct to remove the system, clean the installation site and glue it again.

Sometimes the adhesive tape is not glued to the cornice, but special fasteners with a magnet or hooks are included. Installation of such a model takes place according to the identical scheme described above.

The video clearly demonstrates that even a child and a woman can glue the blinds on scotch tape.

How to hang blinds on brackets

Bracket mounting is advisable when you need to hang medium or heavy blinds, as well as when it comes to ceiling and wall mounting. For fixing the cornice to the ceiling, on the upper slope or on the window frame profile, standard snap brackets are suitable, which are usually included in the kit. To install blinds on a wall, as a rule, you need brackets with an extension, since a window sill or radiators bulge out from below.

To work you will need:

  • drill;
  • roulette;
  • pencil;
  • level;
  • square;
  • a 2.5 mm drill, if the brackets will be screwed to a metal-plastic or wooden profile, a 5-8 mm drill if you have to make holes in concrete and other loose surfaces and install dowels;
  • screwdriver or screwdriver.

Step-by-step instruction:

  • collect the blinds, the canvas does not need to be fastened at this stage;
  • depending on the installation location, attach the curtain rod to the ceiling or wall;
  • outline the edges and locations of the brackets, do not forget that they should not interfere with the moving elements of the cornice;
  • connect the marks with a line, the side brackets should be equidistant from the center, it is recommended to install 3 support points on standard openings: 2 on the sides, 1 in the middle;
  • check with a level and a square how the line runs, it should be strictly parallel to the floor, the horizontal slope of the opening and the wall / ceiling interface.

Do not forget that when attaching blinds to a wall or ceiling, the curtain should overlap the side slopes of the opening by at least 10 mm, optimally 50-400 mm, depending on the design and width of the selected curtain.

Make a plumb line from a rope and a stud, attach it to the extreme marks and check if the curtain hangs straight, straight down and if gaps are formed on the sides.

  • Drill holes according to the marks, if necessary, insert the plastic part of the dowel, it should be flush to the surface;
  • fix the brackets with self-tapping screws;
  • fasten the belt and check its operation.
