Do-it-yourself replacement of interior doors. Dismantling wooden doors with your own hands How to remove old doors with a box

Installation of interior doors is one of the most difficult renovation work. This is due to the fact that the door structure requires very precise centering - both vertically and horizontally. The latter is not easy to achieve.

Dismantling the box

Door block design

The interior door can be made in two versions: with a door frame and without it. The second case involves the installation of the canvas in an old or just a ready-made frame, the first - the installation of the entire block in the doorway.

The first option is preferable for many reasons.

  • Deformation - the old box, even while maintaining its appearance, is deformed to some extent. The "native" canvas underwent changes along with it, which means it somehow compensated. The new does not contain suitable changes, and therefore it simply will not fit into the old door frame.
  • Dimensions - the parameters of the opening are rarely standard, especially after renovation. When installing a door, even a specially made one, difficulties arise. Fitting the box under the opening, and then under the canvas, means extending the installation work at least three times, and without guaranteeing the result.
  • Load - the door frame, door leaf, hinges and lock in the block are designed for certain loads. If the structure was manufactured as a single module, then the load distribution has already been calculated by the manufacturer and implemented. Otherwise, the owner will have to do it.

Such high demands are made mainly on swing systems. Sliding structures are somewhat easier to do-it-yourself installation, since, firstly, they are most often installed on the opening, and secondly, they are much more standardized.

How to disassemble an interior door block

The installation of the door frame takes into account the material of the wall. Accordingly, do-it-yourself dismantling will also require different tools and techniques.

  1. The door is removed from the hinges - for this, the end of the mount is placed under the sash, which is as open as possible, and gradually lifted until the canvas comes out of the hinges. It is recommended to move the sash a short distance left and right.
  2. In order to disassemble the platbands, the point of the ax is driven in between the platband and the vertical frame post. Force is applied away from the box until a gap is formed. The photo shows the moment of separation of the platband.
  3. The same procedure is repeated at the attachment points, then the platband is removed. Usually, it is not possible to disassemble the platband without damage, since thin strips are used for its manufacture.
  4. If you can find nails on the box - and this is not always possible under multi-layer painting, then you should remove them: a bar is cut around the head to free up space, and then the nail is removed with pliers or a nail puller. If we are talking about a metal door frame, then it is necessary to cut off the pins.
  5. A vertical post is sawn at a distance of 60–80 cm from the floor. If the attachment point is visually determined, then you should retreat 20 cm from it. Then the point of the ax or the nail puller is placed between the slope and the rack below the cut, and the bar is squeezed out with effort. The top of the rack is also removed. The photo shows the separation of the lower part of the rack.
  6. The horizontal bar can be removed without sawing, by pushing it down. You need to disassemble the second vertical stand in the same way as the first.

The need to install interior doors usually arises during major or cosmetic repairs, but there are other cases when you just need to do this kind of work. This is a rather complicated process, but if you know the sequence of actions, have the necessary tools and basic skills, then you can do everything yourself. Observing the developed technology and performing all the work carefully and scrupulously, you can install interior doors without the help of specialists.

The main stages of replacing an interior door with a step-by-step description

The interior door can be installed only after all the "wet" work has been done in the room, that is, the walls, ceiling are plastered, and the floor is leveled. If you do this earlier, then due to high humidity, the door leaf may change its size. A sub-floor must also be laid so that the height of the door can be determined.

The shops have a large selection of interior doors. All of them have an attractive appearance, but the geometry of the canvas is not always all right. It happens that for poorly made doors, the discrepancy in the length of the parallel sides can be several millimeters. This can significantly complicate the installation process, so it is worth measuring the canvases before buying, for this it is enough to take a tape measure with you.

When buying a door, do not be lazy and make sure that the product you have chosen is packed and sent to you.

Interior doors are made of fiberboard, MDF, natural wood, plastic, glass

Often only canvas without a door frame is sold. They buy it when they want to replace old doors or there is an opportunity to make a box on their own. It is a U-shaped frame. For its manufacture, two vertical and one transverse racks are used, which are made from a bar. The material can only be used dry, even and free from black knots. The thickness of the timber used must correspond to the thickness of the purchased door leaf.

To complete the work, you will need the following tools:

  • hammer;
  • chisel;
  • screwdrivers;
  • measuring instruments;
  • puncher;
  • miter box;
  • hacksaw or circular saw;
  • building level;
  • screwdriver.

To install an interior door you need a carpentry tool

You also need to have wooden wedges, screws and finishing nails, door hardware and foam. Interior doors on the modern construction market are presented in a wide range, they differ from each other not only in appearance, but also in the material from which they are made. Most often they are made from fiberboard, MDF or natural wood. The installation method does not depend on the material.

Wooden doors have a beautiful appearance, but they are heavy and expensive

The interior door consists not only of a leaf, but also of a box. The material used for its manufacture determines how long such a structure will last, how reliable and durable it will be.

A box made of laminated wood will last a long time and look beautiful, but only if you use high-quality lamination

For the final design, it is also necessary to have additional elements and platbands, the purchase of which is recommended to be carried out after the door is installed and you decide on the required dimensions of such elements.

Dismantling an old interior door

If it is wrong to dismantle the door, then part of the wall can be destroyed.

Before proceeding with such work, you need to decide whether you will continue to use the removed door and box. If you install it again, then dismantling must be done carefully so as not to damage the canvas and the box. Otherwise, the process will be faster, but the door will be damaged.

The door frame consists of two vertical and upper horizontal posts, in some cases a sill may be present. To fix these parts in old houses, nails 120–150 mm long were used, the heads of which are hidden under several layers of paint, which greatly complicates the dismantling process.

The sequence of work is as follows:

  1. Removing the door leaf. The door is opened, a crowbar is inserted under it, acting as a lever, the canvas is lifted and removed from the hinges. The work is easier to carry out with an assistant. Before starting dismantling, it is recommended to lubricate the hinges with anti-corrosion grease to remove rust that interferes with the easy removal of the blade.

    To remove the door leaf, it must be slightly raised

  2. Removing the platbands. Most often, they are not reused, so there is no need to worry about their safety during installation. An ax blade is installed between the box and the platband, after which it is hammered with a hammer, and then the platband is removed. The ax must be inserted in those places where the nails securing the platband are located.

    An ax or a spatula will help to remove the platband.

  3. Removing the door frame. They carefully examine the racks. Try to find the locations of the fasteners. Having retreated from the lower nail about 20 cm, and if it is not visible, then at a distance of 70–80 cm from the floor, the rack is sawn. Under it, above the cut place, insert an ax blade and move the rack back, after which it is removed. The same actions are performed with other parts.

    If the box is fixed with long nails, then in order to dismantle it, you will have to saw the racks

If you see that the door frame is fixed not with nails, but with screws that can be unscrewed, then the dismantling process is greatly simplified. It is enough to screw all the screws and disassemble the box without damaging it.

Preparing a doorway for installing an interior door

The next step is to prepare the doorway for the installation of a new door. It is necessary that it correspond to the dimensions of the structure to be installed. The standard height can be 190-200 cm, width 60-80 cm. In order to be able to correctly install the door, the opening width should be 5-8 cm wider, and the height 3-4 cm.

The doorway should be slightly wider and higher than the frame of the door to be installed

When preparing a doorway, you must adhere to the following rules:

During the preparatory work, a lot of dust is generated, and if the door is to be installed in a living room, then all things and furniture must be well covered.

Sometimes situations arise when for the installation of a new interior door it is necessary to narrow or expand the opening. In most old houses, the thickness of the doorway is 75 mm; this parameter should be guided by when choosing a new design. If the thickness of the box does not match the thickness of the doorway, you will have to use extras.

If the door frame is less than the width of the wall, then add-ons must be installed

It must be remembered that expanding or reducing the size of a doorway requires not only additional time and effort, but also funds. Before buying a new door, you need to correctly determine the size of the opening in the wall. They do this in at least three places in order to correctly select the parameters of the box.

During the dismantling of the box, even if you carried out all the work carefully, the finish may still fall off in some places. The revealed defects are eliminated before the installation of the box with gypsum plaster. It is easy to work with it, moreover, it freezes very quickly.

To level the doorway, it is plastering

The increase in the opening is carried out using a hammer drill and a grinder. When decreasing it, the order of work will depend on the size by which it needs to be done. If it is 10 cm, then brickwork can be done. For smaller sizes, it is recommended to make a box from a metal corner, after which the remaining space is filled with mortar. You can also reduce the opening using a structure made of metal profiles or wooden beams, which is sheathed with plasterboard.

To reduce the doorway, wooden beams or a frame made of metal profiles are used, which are sheathed with plasterboard

Installation of a new interior door

If you decide to install the interior door yourself, then you need to start work by fixing the hinges. They can be universal, left-handed or right-handed. There are standards for the installation of these parts, according to which from the hinge to the lower and upper edges of the canvas should be 20 cm. Usually the manufacturer already makes recesses in the doors.

The hinges are securely fixed to the frame and door leaf

If they are not there, then you need to mark the places for installing the hinges, and then using a chisel or a router you need to make recesses of 2.2-2.7 mm. After that, the parts are installed in their places. Holding them with your hand, make holes for self-tapping screws and fix the hinges. Parts are installed in the same way on the door frame.

After purchasing a standard door, still measure its width and height, as there may be deviations of up to 2–4 mm, and this affects the correct installation.

The box is assembled in the following sequence:

  1. Preparation of a flat surface. It can be a floor or two tables. After laying the canvas, side racks are applied to it, and then the upper bar is fixed with self-tapping screws. First, you need to drill holes, the diameter of which is 25% less than the diameter of the self-tapping screw. To fix the top bar, two self-tapping screws are used on each side.

    The doors are placed on a flat surface, after which the door frame elements are attached to them and the frame is connected

  2. Sawing off vertical uprights. They are made with a small factory stock, so after trying on, you need to make a fit to the size of the door. To get the job done neatly, it's best to use a hand saw.

    The excess part of the vertical racks is sawn off along the length of the blade

  3. Installation of the box in the opening. The U-shaped door frame is installed in place and leveled using a level. Remove the end decoration strip on the left and right uprights and make holes every 25–30 cm. Insert dowels into them, and then fix the box. In order not to deform it, wooden wedges are installed between it and the wall and the correct installation is checked again.

    After connecting the parts of the door frame, it is installed in the opening and fixed with self-tapping screws

  4. Door mounting on hinges. To do this, check how easy it is to open and close the doors, this should be easy. There should be a gap of about 3 mm between the canvas and the box.

    After installing the box and checking the correctness of its installation, you can hang the door leaf on the hinges

  5. Joint filling. The gap that remains between the wall and the box is sealed with polyurethane foam. It is important that there is not a lot of it, since during expansion it can damage the box, so the gap is filled by about a third. The vertical seam starts from the bottom.

    The gap needs to be filled with foam only two thirds

Finishing the doorway after installation

There are several ways to decorate a doorway.

The use of platbands is the simplest option, it is convenient when the width of the wall and the door frame are the same. In this case, it is enough to nail or glue the platbands of the corresponding sizes onto the box. With their help, you will hide the gap between the wall and the box. The installation sequence for platbands will be as follows:

  1. Measurement of the required length of the casing. After determining the parameters, this part is cut off. Please note that it must be fixed at a distance of 1 cm from the hinge, otherwise a creak will be heard while using the door.

    The edges of the platbands are cut at an angle of 45 °, it is easier to do this with a miter box

  2. Fastening of platbands. It remains to attach them to the door frame and fix them with glue, self-tapping screws or finishing nails.

If the width of the doorway is greater than the size of the door, then it can be finished with plaster and paint. To simplify the application of the composition, it is recommended to install beacons. After the plaster has been leveled, it can be painted over. There is a simpler method - after plastering, a sheet of drywall of the required size is fixed, which will allow you to get a flat surface.

After plastering and leveling the doorway, it can be painted

The use of decorative stone is advisable for openings without doors, but it can also be used if available.

The doorway can be finished with decorative stone

Plastic or MDF panels are also popular. For their installation, a frame is created from a metal profile. After that, it is sheathed with MDF or plastic panels. This material has good heat and sound insulation characteristics, it is durable, easy to paint. Plastic panels are lightweight, moisture resistant and inexpensive.

MDF panels are often used to decorate the doorway.

Having installed the interior doors with your own hands, you can completely transform the apartment and at the same time save money on paying for the work of specialists. If you have all the necessary elements and skills, then following the rules and following the recommendations of professionals, you will be able to properly mount the frame and door leaf. If a fiberboard door is installed, then you can handle it yourself, since its weight is small. When installing products made of MDF or solid wood, you will have to invite assistants, since you will not be able to cope with the large weight of the structure on your own.

Have you decided to replace the interior doors in your apartment or house? Perfectly! Would you like to pay money to third-party installers? Not a problem! Any interior doors can be installed by hand. There is nothing complicated in this event. You just need to figure out how to perform work for different types of doors and do everything in accordance with the manual for your case.

The work on replacing interior doors begins with the dismantling of old door structures. If your home has "bare" doorways, you can skip this part of the instructions and go to the manual for direct installation of the product.

The dismantling procedure will differ depending on whether you need to keep the old door in its proper form or simply get rid of it after dismantling.

If the door is no longer needed

First step. Remove the door leaf from the hinges. If the hinges are collapsible, it is enough to simply raise the canvas. Otherwise, you must first unscrew the hinge self-tapping screws and only then can you remove the door.

Second step. Dismantle the cash. To do this, pry the platbands with a crowbar and tear them off the door frame.

Step three. Unscrew the fasteners securing the door. If there are no anchors or other fasteners, go directly to the next step.

Fourth step. Rip open the foam layer with a hacksaw. To do this, punch a hole in the upper layer of polyurethane foam so that a hacksaw can be inserted into the blower, and then saw through the material to the bottom. Repeat the operation on each side of the box. This way you can easily get rid of the foam.

Finally, all that remains is to align the opening before installing the new door.

If the door needs to be saved

First step. Remove the canvas from the hinges.

Second step. Place a chisel between the door frame and the platband at the point of fixing the cashing element with a nail. Gently try to pry off the nail with a chisel. After the fastener has moved a certain distance, grasp it with pliers and pull out. Remove all nails according to this scheme and remove the cashing elements.

Step three. Remove the box and carefully clean it from the remaining foam. Cut off any possible amount of polyurethane foam with a knife. Apply pharmacy Dimexide to the remaining foam. It will soften the foam and you can remove it.

Installation of a swing door

Regardless of the material of manufacture, all single-leaf swing doors are installed in the same order.

First step. Dismantle the old door in accordance with the previous recommendations. If you wish, you can leave the old box and install a new canvas in it, but this option should be considered only if the budget for repair work is strictly limited.

Second step. Measure the opening or the old box. Usually, the dimensions of the boxes and openings correspond to the standard, but it does not hurt to be insured, especially in the case of replacing interior doors in a private house.

If the dimensions do not correspond to the standard, the box and the canvas itself will have to be ordered according to individual measurements.

If it becomes necessary to cut a box or canvas, it is strongly recommended to do this exclusively in the carpentry shop. When doing such work at home, the slightest mistake can lead to complete damage to the product.

Step three. Determine the opening side of the new door and the location of the handle. Mark the door frame for the installation of the door hinges. The optimal distance between the lower loop and the lower edge of the web is 20 cm, between the upper loop and the corresponding end of the web is 15 cm.

The hinges must be in strict alignment with the end of the door. Use self-tapping screws to fix the hinges.

Fourth step. Place the door on the fixed hinges. Make sure there is nothing in the way of the door opening and closing. Adjust the position of the hinges if necessary.

Fifth step. Remove the canvas from the hinges and fix the door frame in the opening. To do this, level the box, drill fixing holes in it and in the surface of the opening and fix the product with anchors and dowels.

Sixth step. Hang the blade back onto the hinges and check the work result again.

Seventh step. Secure the cashing elements with decorative nails.

In conclusion, you will need to install the door handle. Install a latch or a more modern door lock, if desired. Most modern door handle models have built-in locks. Prepare for them the corresponding recesses in the door frame in advance.

Control the evenness of installation of structural elements at each stage of work. Get rid of all defects immediately. they can lead to serious problems and inconveniences in the future.

Installation of a "compartment" door

First step. Dismantle the old door according to previous recommendations.

Second step. Align all gaps carefully. It is important to get rid of all existing gaps and other defects.

Step three. Make a groove from the side of the bottom end of the panel. A chisel will help you with this. Then put the guide in the shape of the letter "P" into the finished groove and fix it with high quality. The rollers of the mechanism will move inside this guide.

Fourth step. Insert the rollers into the fixed strip.

Fifth step. Place the door on the rail while attaching it to the rollers. To do this, you need to bring the canvas into the grooves of the rollers. It is more convenient to perform this operation with an assistant. One holds - the second opens the door.

Sixth step. Locate and mark a suitable location for the rail at the top. Check the bar below. The top plank must be placed in the wall above the opening.

Seventh step. Attach a metal rail to a timber bar. Fix the block with the guide with anchors to the upper end face of the blade. Check with the level of the correct installation of the door. It is important that the block is placed horizontally. Otherwise, the doors will close and open without your participation.

Eighth step. Install the door leaf. First, set it vertically and tilt it slightly to the opposite side from you. Next, you need to put the upper rollers on the corresponding guide, then slightly raise the canvas and bring it to the bar at the bottom, at the same time placing it on the movable rollers.

Ninth step. Install guards to prevent the blade from flying out of the guide rails. Install the handles. Hide the top rail with the trim. Use self-tapping screws or decorative nails to fix the platband.

Check that the door is working properly. The blade should move smoothly and smoothly. Eliminate any defects as soon as they are found, without delay.

First step. Get rid of the old door if you have one. Align the walls of the cleared opening - differences are unacceptable. It is very convenient to use wooden planks for leveling. In the grooves you nail the planks, on the ledges you cut them down.

Second step. Measure the free opening and calculate the required number of panels to assemble the door.

Step three. Cut the side profile so that its length is 25 mm shorter than the opening height.

Fourth step. Cut the panels to be 40 mm shorter than the opening height.

Fifth step. Assemble the individual panels into a single structure. It is most convenient to do this on the floor.

Place special panels with channels on the sides - on the left a fixing strip, on the right a locking strip. Use end strips to connect the elements. Stoppers will provide additional fixation. In advance, make a couple of holes for the magnetic latches on the key strip and fit the latches.

Sixth step. Prepare axial marks on the left edge of the upper end of the planks. Make holes according to the markings.

Seventh step. Insert axles. After installation, their ends should go beyond the boundaries of the ends of the panels.

There are often certain differences in the design of different "accordions". If your door structure is equipped with runners, there is no need to drill holes for the axles. In this case, the sliders must be screwed to the end faces of the panels. Start fixing the runners from the lock panel and fasten through one plank.

Eighth step. Cut the guide bar to fit the width of the opening. Set aside one third of the length of the rail and drill a hole for the screw at the marked point. Fix the guide with a screw.

Ninth step. Install the sliders into the guide bar after lubricating them.

Tenth step. Align the rail with a spirit level and secure it with a second screw.

Eleventh step. Lock the side guides. To one of them you need to fix the clip of the side profile, to the second guide attach the plates of the magnetic latches.

This completes the installation of an accordion-type interior door. Check the quality of the installation, make sure that the door moves smoothly and evenly. If you find any problems, fix them immediately.

Start the work, as always, by dismantling the old door, if present. Align the walls of the opening and proceed to the main stages of work.

First step. Collect the door frame. For assembly, use boards about 10 cm wide and about 6 cm thick. For fastening the boards, it is most convenient to use a regular spike connection. The connection angle must be exactly 19 degrees.

Second step. Secure the aligned frame to the doorway. Pre-drill the fixing holes in the wall, and then secure the structure with pins or thick nails.

Step three. Make sure that the dimensions of the door leaves match the size of the frame. If necessary, trim off the end sides of the blades to the required size.

Fourth step. Fasten the hinges at the appropriate locations. Pre-determine in which direction it will be more convenient to open the doors.

Fifth step. Hang the door leaves onto the hinges. Install the handles and check the quality of the work done.

Thus, there is absolutely nothing difficult in replacing interior doors on your own. By understanding the key points of these guides, you can handle all upcoming events without outsourcing. This will save you additional money and have complete confidence in your installation.

Happy work!

Video - Do-it-yourself replacement of interior doors

Every owner who has started a major overhaul in an apartment or house is faced with the problem of dismantling the entrance or interior doors. It would seem that there is nothing difficult here - remove the door leaf from the hinges and get rid of the box. But in reality, not everything is so simple. As practice shows, if you want to get a beautiful and even doorway, it is worth removing the old structure correctly. And below we will talk about how to dismantle wooden doors with your own hands and consider the following points:

Features of dismantling wooden doors.

Dismantling methods: gentle, fast.

Dismantling the balcony and front door.

Breaking - not building: features of dismantling wooden doors

Most inexperienced builders mistakenly believe that removing an old door requires only prying the jambs off the wall. But in reality, everything turns out to be not so simple. Often, aggressive and improper dismantling can damage not only the wooden structure, but also part of the wall. A similar situation has become especially widespread in old Soviet houses, where fragile gypsum boards are used for the construction of interior partitions.

In order not to damage part of the wall when dismantling interior doors, you need to approach this process creatively. First of all, find out if you need an old door or if you plan to throw it in a landfill. In the first case, dismantling must be carried out carefully so as not to damage the components, for example, if you are going to rearrange the door to the country house. If you no longer need the frame and all the door elements, there is a "merciless" and quick way, which we will talk about below.

However, no matter what method of dismantling wooden doors in a private house you choose, the work must be carried out as carefully as possible, without causing damage to the wall. Otherwise, after getting rid of the box, you will have to spend money on plastering and puttying.

Each door structure includes two vertical posts, one horizontal bar and a door leaf. In some cases, there is also a nut (lower horizontal). Often, old doors have survived 5 or even more paints, becoming a few millimeters thicker and, accordingly, heavier.

The paint has long hidden all hints of the location of nails, screws and other fasteners, but on an intuitive level, their location can still be recognized. For example, there is usually a block of wood between the door frame and the wall. Its thickness is chosen so that the vertical posts are perpendicular to the floor surface. Large nails with a length of 150 or 120 mm were driven into such a bar: two into the right vertical rack, two into the left and one into the upper horizontal bar.

If the doors have not changed for 30-50 years, then such nails have had time to rust, which means that it will not be so easy to get rid of the box. To prevent part of the wall from rooting out along with the bars, use a pry bar or nail puller. In addition, you will need an ax, hammer and saw.

A gentle way to dismantle a wooden door with your own hands

Below we will show you how to remove the frame and remove the doors so that they can be used in the future. Step-by-step actions:

  • We remove the doors by slipping a crowbar between the door and the floor to create a semblance of a lever. Slightly closed and ajar the door, begin to lift the canvas by pushing the pry lever. It is good if you carry out this process together, since the old Soviet doors are quite heavy, especially if you are dismantling the front door. In the event that the hinges do not react in any way, it is possible that they are heavily clogged or rusted. In this case, apply a lubricant (it is recommended to use an anti-rust lubricant in a spray that quickly removes rust), wait a few minutes, then try again. Complete removal of the canvas must be carried out open, otherwise the door will rest against the horizontal crossbar.
  • When you set the door leaf aside, proceed with the elimination of the platbands. There is no need to worry about the preservation of old platbands, as in many cases they are in poor condition and are also covered with a thick layer of enamel. The point of the ax must be placed in the hole between the box and the casing or in another place higher if the nails are covered with paint and nothing is visible. Take an ax in one hand, a hammer in the other.
  • Drive in the ax carefully and then detach the casing from the box.
  • You will notice large nails in the expansion gaps. Bring the ax under one of them, then push the platband as far as possible. This procedure must be repeated in places where other nails are located. As a result, you can easily separate the trim from the door frame.
  • There are platbands on both sides, which means you can repeat the same steps on the other side of the wall. But in most cases, the platband breaks. In the days of Soviet construction and engineering, they were made very strong and thick, and the platbands were made quite thin, so they simply cannot be removed with rusted nails. But today it is quite inexpensive and simple to make more beautiful and new platbands. In addition, if you remember that the faded enamel has already dried on the old casing, as a result of which it cannot be used for wood, then it would be better to take care of a new frame for the doors.
  • When the platbands are removed and you are left with only a door frame with iron hinges. Before prying it out of the wall, consider that it is nailed to the leveling blocks with 150mm nails. Carefully study one of the uprights - if you notice a lower attachment point (a bar or a nail), step back about 20 cm from it. If you do not see any fasteners, then step back 60 cm from the floor and saw through the stand.
  • A little above the resulting cut, you need to insert the ax so that it is between the wooden rack and the doorway, after which it is necessary to move the rack away from the wall with a confident push. This will remove the rack at the same time so you can pull the nail out of the wall.
  • Do the same with the top bar and the opposite side. When the first pillar is removed, removing the doors will become much easier and faster.
  • There is no point in preserving a door block that has served 30 years or more - you can use more durable, modern and inexpensive materials, or you can use the same wood, but fresher.

Above, we examined one of the most problematic options for dismantling a door with large nails in the form of fasteners. If you see that the elements are fixed with screws, then it will not be difficult to break this door frame - just use a screwdriver.

Quick way

If you are going to get rid of the old door and do not plan to install it elsewhere, we recommend using the faster and easier way to dismantle the frame.

You may need the following tools:

  • crowbar;
  • axe;
  • hammer;
  • hacksaw for wood.

Do-it-yourself quick dismantling of wooden doors

  • Remove the door leaf as described in the instructions - this step cannot be done faster and easier.
  • There is no point in breaking a doorframe, so it is much easier to break it. This is very easy to do if you cut in the center of one of the uprights.
  • Use a hacksaw to cut at a 45 ° angle.
  • If the box has a nut, it is recommended to cut it in the center.
  • If the threshold is fixed in the doorway above the floor, then you can uproot it using a crowbar.
  • You can quickly tear off the platbands by driving an ax between them and the box beam. Move the ax handle to create a gap that will be enough for further work with the crowbar.

Do not forget that if you do not need the old door frame, then the remaining wall may still be useful for installing a new door, which means that you need to do the work as carefully as possible.

Features of dismantling a plastic door

Metal and plastic doors have long ceased to be considered a novelty, and much less often you will be able to see a massive canvas made of wood than an ordinary structure, shining with pristine whiteness. But for proper operation, adjustment and repair, you need to know some secrets that are not known to all owners of such doors.

It is important to understand the functioning and arrangement of the hinges on which the door may be located. In this case, you will be able to use all the potential to the maximum, repair or remove the entire structure. If you are going to dismantle a plastic door according to the instructions above, you are unlikely to succeed. This is because such structures have some peculiarities in installation and dismantling, so they need to be removed in a special way.

Dismantling the door on the balcony

  • Remove the special protective caps that cover the hinges.
  • Tilt the balcony door towards you, firmly holding it with your free hand, and lift to release the pin of the lower support. Due to the fact that the hinges in these structures are not fixed at the bottom, the door can be easily removed by slightly lifting and moving to the side.

Dismantling the front door

It is worth noting that the device of the entrance door made of plastic differs from the balcony one, which means that the dismantling should be carried out in a different way. The main difference is that the entrance doors are reinforced and there are no double-glazed windows.

They also have a different structure of loops - they are more powerful, they have an anti-burglar system. The plastic entrance door has three hinges, and the balcony door has two. This is primarily due to the fact that the door is quite heavy, and two hinges are simply not able to cope with this load.

The dismantling procedure is carried out according to the scenario described above, but with one difference - you will definitely not be able to remove such a door alone. When you remove the door from its hinges, you need to hold it tightly, and only two people can cope with this task.

Dismantling a metal door

Most new buildings use metal entrance doors. They seem reliable only at first glance. In fact, it is a simple sheet of steel that has no insulating properties and is not reinforced in any way. The owners of these apartments prefer to replace the structures with new ones and insulate the existing ones. But in any case, you have to remove the canvas.

  • Then you can take out the door frame and start installing a better quality door.
As you can see, it is not difficult to dismantle the old door, be it plastic, wooden or iron. The main thing is to do everything neatly and measuredly so as not to spoil the opening in the wall, which can be useful for installing a new door.

Interior doors play an important role in the apartment. They are able to create comfort in the house and provide reliable sound insulation in the room. Sometimes the previously installed interior door becomes unusable. This is due to improper operation or long service life. It is not necessary to wait until the repair to replace the door, since a faulty structure can cause a lot of inconvenience to the residents of the apartment. The decisive point is taking measurements. Measurements must be accurate. Use a construction tape to take measurements.

The following distances must be measured:

  • The width of the door block;
  • Distance from the top point to the threshold;
  • The thickness of the canvas.

If the door will be installed independently, then it is worth purchasing it along with the box. The disassembled finished structure will save time and effort during installation.

It is worthwhile to determine in advance the direction of opening the door. Depending on the side into which the door will open, the place for hanging the hinges is determined.

When changing the door, you need to provide sound insulation and thermal insulation. To do this, it is worth foaming up the empty space and installing the platbands. If the old door frame was not insulated, then this is another reason to change the door.
