How to hang vertical blinds. How to fix vertical blinds from fabric slats with your own hands How to properly hang vertical blinds

When choosing blinds, not only their external design is taken into account, but also the functional purpose of the room in which they are to be used, the style and operational conditions of the room. The last point is especially important, because the material of manufacture can be different: bamboo, fabric, aluminum.

So that during the installation process there are no difficulties, it is necessary to correctly measure the window opening - this will allow you to purchase a product of the required size or order it correctly from a blind manufacturing company.

Features and purpose of blinds

The main characteristic of blinds is simple installation, in which the products are quickly and easily fixed in the window opening. Convenient control process allows you to effectively change the level of illumination of the room.

When choosing blinds, one should decide not only on the appearance and material of the blinds, but also on the method of fixing them on a plastic window, so that their operation is as efficient as possible.

The main element of the blinds is the slats. They can be:

  1. Vertical or horizontal.
  2. Rolled or pleated.
  3. Fabric, plastic, wood, aluminum.

The location method is different:

  1. Inside the window opening - in the overlay.
  2. On the sash of a plastic window.
  3. Above the window opening. Fixation is made to the wall.

Note! When choosing between the first and second method of fixing, the width of the window sill and the depth of the window opening are taken into account. In the third case, the window opening is completely closed.

More about types of blinds

The main function is to protect rooms and furniture from direct sunlight. Traditional curtains can also cope with this task, but the advantage of blinds in this case is that they do not interfere with the circulation of fresh air, and also allow you to adjust the light intensity in the room in a wide range - from complete darkness to filling the room with sunlight. This does not require much effort.

Blinds can be used in many modern and some classic styles. Most of all, they correspond to the trends of minimalist interiors - they allow you to efficiently use free space, do not require much space, and are easy to operate and maintain.

A practical option, they reliably close the room from prying eyes and sunlight. Fixed to the wall or to the window sash. The second method is more practical, since it does not affect the functionality (opening, closing) of the window system. Most often, such blinds are made in the form of thin aluminum slats, therefore they are popular in rooms with high humidity - in the bathroom and in the kitchen. The movement of the canvas is possible only up / down. The intensity of the illumination is regulated by the mobility of the lamellas.

Presented by fabric vertical lamellas of the same width. They are fixed to the wall in such a way that it is possible to open the sash for ventilation. The control method involves not only changing the angle of the lamellae, but also moving them to the left, right, or in both directions (like a curtain).

They are represented by a solid, dense canvas that shades the room. When opened, the web is rolled into a roll. Used together with light curtains.

A practical option, involving the installation of the box in the frame, which does not interfere with the free opening of the window sashes.

Self-installation of blinds

One of the advantages of blinds is that you can install them yourself. However, before it comes down to it, it is necessary to correctly measure the window opening in order to purchase a product with the desired parameters. The measurements are influenced by the chosen fixation method:

  1. When fastening to the overlay, 10 cm are added to the obtained value of the width and height of the window opening.
  2. When installed inside the window opening, the height is taken in its pure form, and 1.5 cm is subtracted from the width.
  3. When fixing in the sash, 2 cm are subtracted from its width, and 3 cm from the height.

Note! The ease of use of the blinds depends on the location of the control mechanism. If it is planned to install products in both sashes, then the cords of the different halves should be located on the right and left so that they do not interfere with each other.

Fixing with screws is the most reliable, but it is not suitable if you intend to periodically change the method of curtain. After drilling, holes remain on the surface of the window profile. In this case, choose fixing with screws to the wall.

Measurement

When installed in a window opening, a total of 4 cm is subtracted from its width (2 on each side) - this value corresponds to the width of the blinds. Their height is calculated as follows: H of the window opening - 2 cm. It is necessary to provide for the presence of a gap between the upper edge of the window and the blinds so that they do not interfere with its opening.

For installation outside the window opening, when the room is completely darkened and the window is completely closed, the width of the product is taken as the value of the width of the window opening, adding 5 cm on each side. 10 cm is added to the height of the window opening.

When installed in a sash, they open together with the fixed blinds. Their width corresponds to the width of the glass unit, adding 1.5 cm to each side. It is important that the blinds do not interfere with the free movement of the window handle.

When the window is located in the same plane with the wall, metal brackets are used to fix the blinds, allowing them to be positioned at a certain distance from the window. Add 10 cm to the width of the blinds on each side.

High-quality fixation of the blinds will allow the use of dowels and screws that correspond to the parameters of the fasteners used. It is also worth considering the material of the walls and ceiling, if the fastening will be carried out to them.

Note! Before you start drilling the holes for the fasteners, it is important to make sure that when folded, the blinds installed in the chosen way will not interfere with the free opening of the window. You should also make sure that objects on the windowsill, heating devices and structural elements will not interfere with the proper functioning of the blinds.

The main methods of fastening are:

  1. Drilling.
  2. Fixation on double-sided tape.
  3. Fixation with magnets.
  4. Fixation on brackets.

Installation of horizontal blinds

Horizontal blinds are sold complete with a complete set of fasteners and fittings. To install them, you only need a screwdriver. But first you need to choose the color of the product.

Then the window opening is measured.

After manufacturing or purchasing a product in a store, they begin to install it.

Installation of vertical blinds

The design of vertical structures is much more varied than that of horizontal ones. There are many color variations, lamellas with patterns, patterns and photo printing, multilayer designs. The advantage is that such blinds can be hung on large and irregularly shaped openings - for example, when designing beveled window openings in the attic.

The main structural elements are: cornice, runners, slats and chains. The measurements of the window are made after the method of fastening the structure has been chosen - to the wall or to the ceiling.

If necessary, the length of the lamellas can be easily adjusted. To do this, they are pruned, guided by the instructions on the package. The width of the lamella is adjusted by removing excess fragments and cutting the cornice with a hacksaw for metal.

When choosing the material for the manufacture of lamellas, the operating conditions in the room are taken into account.

Installation of roller blinds

When installing roller blinds, there are several ways to fix them. Traditional - on self-tapping screws and alternative - on double-sided tape or clip-holder, which is installed on the sash.

Externally, roller blinds are represented by a smooth fabric that curls when lifted into a roll. The canvas is quite dense, so it perfectly shades the room. The width of roller blinds is different, but it is more convenient to mount it on each sash, so that the accessory does not interfere with the normal functioning of the window.

Fastening can be done without drilling. To do this, the compact upper shaft with the canvas is attached to a special bearing element fixed to the sash. From below, the canvas is fixed with magnets.

Note! When installing roller blinds, the distance to which the window handle protrudes is taken into account - it should not protrude through the canvas. Therefore, the fastening is carried out using brackets that form a sufficient distance between the sash and the curtain.

Horizontal blinds are made of wood, plastic or aluminum. They are highly resistant to sunlight. Depending on the type of fastening, the blinds of the horizontal type can be interframe, attic and ordinary. The rich color range of products will harmoniously decorate any house, apartment or office space.

Aluminum blinds are considered the most comfortable of all horizontal ones. These "light protection devices" have one very important advantage - the ability to be installed in places where curtains or blinds of other types cannot be used for a number of reasons. Aluminum blinds are made from aluminum tape with high strength characteristics and coated with a special compound.

Benefits of horizontal blinds

Blinds are compact, reliable and affordable - it is thanks to this that they have long and firmly entered our life. They are installed not only in offices or in the kitchen, but also in the living room, nursery and even in the bathroom! After all, their moisture resistance is beyond praise! Aluminum products provide sufficient light and sun protection for a comfortable stay in the room, and also reliably hide from prying eyes.

And also blinds:

  • do not absorb dirt and dust;
  • do not deform;
  • easy to care for;
  • do not accumulate static electricity.

Interesting! "Standard" aluminum horizontal blinds is a basic combination of functionality, reliability and elegance. This is the best choice for the kitchen, office.

Horizontal Venetian blinds allow you to successfully combine the availability and reliability of aluminum construction with a "natural" interior, which is dominated by woody shades.

Perforated blinds , with the effect of "dense tulle" are suitable for connoisseurs of soft diffused light. They are good for the living room, nursery, bedroom.

But in order for the products to serve your home really faithfully, it is very important to know how to install horizontal blinds correctly.

Installation instructions for horizontal blinds

Mounting of horizontal blinds can be carried out to the ceiling, to the wall, in the opening.

Measurement of horizontal blinds

  1. Determine the overall dimensions (height and width) of the product based on the design features of the window opening. If the installation of horizontal blinds will be carried out directly in the opening, it is advisable to subtract one or two centimeters from the estimated width of the product (correction for uneven slopes).
  2. Determine where the controls are best placed to the right or left.
  3. Determine which type of fixing will be used - standard twist brackets, fixing to tilt and turn sashes with drilling or without drilling.
  4. Determine the length of the control handle: standard - 2/3 of the height of the product.

Note! The smallest possible width of products is 22 centimeters. As for its maximum, it is 220 centimeters with a guarantee of trouble-free operation. You can be tempted by 300 - but then no one will give you a guarantee.

Maximum height: 250 centimeters - if guaranteed, 300 - if not.

Installation of horizontal blinds - step by step

Installation on twist brackets

  1. Based on the overall dimensions of the light protection device, mark the installation locations of the brackets. The distance between them should be at least sixty centimeters. The brackets must not be caught in the steering mechanism, rope retainer or caliper.
  2. Attach the brackets to a window sash, ceiling or wall.
  3. Turn the bracket latches all the way (counterclockwise).
  4. Insert the upper cornice of the product into the brackets, turn the latches clockwise until they stop.

Experts note that when self-installing horizontal blinds, video instructions from professionals are often not superfluous.

Installation on inclined windows with drilling

  1. Install the twist brackets on the top of the sash; on its lower part, install the corners (lower plastic brackets).
  2. Fasten the cables in special bushings; install the sleeves through the springs into the holes along the edges of the upper cornice.
  3. Pass the cable through the holes along the edges of the lamellas.
  4. Insert the second pair of bushings into the holes of the lower brackets, thread the cable through them and fix it with a screw.
  5. Attach the handle hook to the control mechanism.
  6. Install the handle holder on the plate onto the sash.
  7. Make sure the entire structure is working.

Installation on inclined windows without drilling - on captive brackets

  1. Mark the locations of the brackets.
  2. Fasten the twist brackets with the supplied screws on the flip top brackets.
  3. Install the "structures" on the top of the sash and fix them with a special key.
  4. Install the flap lower brackets on the lower part of the sash.
  5. Fasten the cables in the bushings; install the latter through the springs into the holes along the edges of the upper cornice.
  6. Attach the curtain rod to the twist brackets.
  7. Pass the cable.
  8. Integrate the plastic sleeves into the holes in the lower brackets.
  9. Fix the cable in the bushings with the screws.
  10. Attach the hook of the handle to the control gear.
  11. Install the pen holder.
  12. Check the functionality of all structural elements.

The fixing scheme for horizontal blinds, if you carefully understand, is quite simple.

Installation of horizontal blinds: video instruction on installation on a plastic window

Detailed instructions for installing horizontal blinds are presented in this video.

Horizontal aluminum light-shielding devices, of course, do not need any extra care. However, this does not mean that they can be "left to their fate."

They need to be cleaned of dust about once a week. For this purpose, you can use a vacuum cleaner with a soft, fluffy attachment. It is also not forbidden to manipulate with an ordinary dry soft cloth.

If the blinds, for a number of reasons, require a thorough "big wash" (often these are structures on balcony or kitchen windows), then you should proceed as follows:

  • dismantle the structure;
  • wash the lamellas with warm water using a detergent (soap, shampoo, a little washing powder). Boiling water is "contraindicated" !;
  • rinse them thoroughly with water and wipe dry;
  • return the blinds to their place for final drying;
  • remove dried water stains with a rag. And voila - your blinds shine again!

Please note - in no case should water get onto the upper cornice with mechanisms. And one more thing: if your blinds are white, try to avoid detergents that contain ammonia - this can provoke the appearance of yellow spots on individual lamellas.

There are twelve types of blinds. Each of them has its own distinctive characteristics. Initially, all blinds are usually divided into vertical and horizontal.

Horizontal blinds are more popular for decorating a home space than a public one. This is due to the fact that they take up less space than vertical ones. The structure is not massive, it is mounted with or without drilling. Horizontal models are made from thin log cabins: cherry, beech, oak, yew, metal alloys, fabric and bamboo.

Installation of blinds

Vertical blinds are more often found in the design of spacious offices, hospital rooms, classrooms, rooms with large panoramic windows. They are made from French jacquard, linen, polyester and thin plastic. Fabrics are pre-treated with special dust-repellent, antistatic agents. They are easy to care for, clean from dust, which is very important for premises with a high degree of traffic.

Depending on the type of construction, finishing materials, size and appearance, the installation option is selected. There are two solutions, either drilling or not. Massive types of blinds made of wood or metal alloys are fixed only with a drill, screws and brackets. Lightweight roller blinds, mini system, blinds, bamboo can be mounted on special L-shaped brackets or mounting tape. Let's take a closer look at the options for how to hang blinds.

How to correctly measure for fasteners

To make a measurement for a horizontal structure, it is necessary to measure the length and width of the glass unit. When installing the model, add +1 cm to the length and +5 to the width.

The installation of horizontal slats on the sash involves the following actions:

  1. We measure the width of the window opening in several places.
  2. We make a mark at the widest point.
  3. Add one centimeter to the width.
  4. We measure the height.
  5. We add four centimeters to the height.

Vertical structures are attached directly to the glass unit, wall, ceiling. In order for the lamellas to evenly cover the entire window area, the area on the sides should exceed 8 centimeters. Thus, the glass unit looks harmonious. When installing on an opening or to the ceiling, we add the area from the ceiling to the window or from the opening to the window to the height.

How to properly hang vertical blinds

Make sure all structural parts are included before starting the installation.

  1. Cornice, fasteners (brackets).
  2. Vertical slats.
  3. Control device, electric drive (if built-in).
  4. Clothespins for lamellas.
  5. Swivel mechanism.
  6. Slat runners.
  7. A thread of control with which the mechanism turns.

Next, make holes strictly according to the marking marks. If the installation takes place on a double-glazed window, work with the drill very carefully. Make the required number of holes, insert the fasteners. After that, it is necessary to install a cornice with runners. Then attach the slats. Draw the adjusting thread and secure it with the weight. Check the turns of the sipes. Vertical blinds, with the exception of woven fabrics, are often installed by drilling.

How to properly hang horizontal blinds

Make markings for fasteners at a distance of 5-7 cm from the glass. Then use a drill to drill small holes. We install the brackets and attach the cornice to them. A characteristic click is an indication of correct installation. Lower the blinds and install the lower clips. To do this, we make markings and screw a self-tapping screw with a lock at the bottom or side of the window sash, after which we check the fixed structure. You can get more detailed information on how to hang blinds in this video:

Installation of blinds without drilling

There are several options for fastening without drilling. They are suitable for lightweight construction options.

  • Construction / assembly tape.
  • Special magnets.
  • L-shaped brackets (they are attached to the opening doors of the double-glazed windows).

With the help of mounting tape, the roller shutter box, the system of mini or woven roller shutters can be easily attached to the glass unit. To do this, glue double-sided tape to the structure, which must then be pressed against the window. Before attaching the cornice to the tape, be sure to degrease the window surface! Make sure that the curtain is attached straight. Do not mount the structure on a cold frame. The adhesive tape will lose its properties due to the cold surface. Make your markup ahead of time.

L-shaped brackets are attached only to the opening sashes of the window. The advantage of installation on an L-shaped bracket is that there is no need to make holes in the glass unit. You do not have to worry about the depressurization of the window.

Blinds have recently gained immense popularity not only in offices, they are also happily placed in residential premises. Mounting blinds on windows - perfectly protects from direct sunlight, without interfering with airing and opening windows.

Manufacturers offer several types of blinds

  • Vertical;
  • Horizontal;
  • Accordion or pleated;
  • Roll-to-roll type.

Vertical blinds look like vertical slats (strips) connected to each other, which move around their axis using a plastic chain. And also, they can be shifted to the left or right.

The principle of operation of horizontal blinds is the same as for vertical ones. Only folding occurs from the bottom up.

Pleated - they look like an accordion, for this they are impregnated with special means so that they keep their corrugated shape. They can be fixed to both a plastic window and a window opening.

Roller blinds - have the form of a solid canvas that can be rolled up, while opening or closing part or all of the window.

Lamellas according to their materials can be:

  • metal;
  • wooden;
  • bamboo;
  • plastic;
  • made of fabric.

What blinds are the best option for a balcony?

Before proceeding with the placement of blinds on plastic windows, you should understand whether they are needed at all. Will they become a hindrance when closing or opening a window.

One thing can be said for sure - if the loggia or balcony is converted into a separate room, then blinds are definitely needed.

When choosing blinds, in addition to design and appearance, special attention should be paid to the following points:

  • functionality and practicality of fasteners;
  • it should be borne in mind that not all types of fasteners are suitable for window blocks;
  • practicality of blinds;
  • it is better to choose plastic or fabric material for the balcony, wood and bamboo can create unnecessary noise.

How to attach blinds to plastic windows without drilling video:

Nuances when attaching blinds of different types:

  • Vertical blinds

The peculiarities of mounting vertical light filters are that they are suitable for mounting on a window opening, wall or ceiling. They are not suitable for sash mounting and are only fixed by drilling.

  • Horizontal blinds

The most standard blinds that are suitable for almost any plastic windows. They are considered universal, it is possible to mount them both on each sash and between frames.

  • Roller blinds

For ease of use, roll-up filters are best installed on window sashes. If they are placed in a window opening or attached to a wall, then it will not be possible to close or open the window when the light filters are closed. In addition, roller blinds are very delicate; special care must be taken during installation.

How to remove blinds correctly

Over time, like everything in the house, the window structures become covered with dust, so the blinds should be removed for cleaning. Each type has its own characteristics when removing.

Removing vertical blinds:

  • We transfer the lamellas to the open state, after which we collect them;
  • We release the chain from the weights and take out the weights;
  • We remove each lamella: lift the clip of the slider and take it out a little, take out the lamellae in turn.

Removing horizontal blinds:

  • Remove the cornice from the bracket;
  • We collect the lamellas at the top and look for the latch protrusion;
  • Pull the latch towards you and to the right;
  • We remove the slats.

Removing roller blinds:

  • There is a tongue on the bracket, you need to bend it using a screwdriver;
  • Remove the shaft by pulling it towards you.

A short video on how to install blinds on plastic windows:

Blinds have become very popular for modern interiors. They are practical, compact, comfortable, functional, reliably protect from unwanted light and prying eyes. Installation of blinds on plastic windows is very simple, you can install them with your own hands in a matter of minutes, in some cases you don't even need tools.

Types of blinds

For plastic windows, compact horizontal blinds and more comfortable vertical blinds are chosen with equal success. They differ in the way of opening, so in horizontal - the canvas moves up and down, in vertical - to the side.

Classic horizontal models are recruited from lamellas, but now roller blinds, pleated blinds and roman blinds, which also belong to this category of goods, are in no less demand. Basically, they are hung only on a window or on partitions.

The video contains photos of beautiful horizontal blinds in the interior. Please note that the video clearly demonstrates how to combine blinds with traditional curtains, and also contains good examples of how to choose light protection systems for various interior styles.

Vertical blinds take up more space, but they allow you to completely close the opening and even the entire wall. This type is most rational for the design of large areas of glazing, long corridors, openings of complex architectural shapes, for example, curved or arched.

The video below contains beautiful photo examples of various types of blinds.

Where to install

Installation of horizontal blinds is mainly carried out on:

  • sash windows;
  • upper frame profile;
  • on the upper slope of the opening;
  • less often on the pier, if the design features of the opening or the design of the room require it.

Installation of vertical blinds is not possible for technical reasons on the sash or window frame, they are usually mounted on:

  • upper wall;
  • ceiling;
  • horizontal slope of the window, if its width allows.

Installation features

Compact and lightweight horizontal blinds can be mounted without drilling. To do this, use special brackets made of metal or plastic, as well as double-sided tape.

All models that need to be installed on a slope, in a wall or on the ceiling are fixed on special brackets that are attached to the surface with self-tapping screws or dowels.

Installation instruction without drilling

To install blinds without drilling with your own hands, you do not need any tools or even skills, here it is important to correctly calculate the width of the canvas and attach it evenly to the surface.

Clips

Mounting on special brackets-clips is perhaps the easiest way to hang the blinds with your own hands, but this mounting option is possible only on an opening window sash:

  • assemble the curtain rod and canvas according to the manufacturer's instructions;
  • put the clips on the curtain rod, check if they touch the moving elements and if they interfere with the movement of the cords and chains;
  • attach the cornice to the sash, outline with a simple pencil where to hang the brackets;
  • unfold the canvas, check if it touches the protruding elements of the window, if necessary, the curtain must be adjusted to size: cut in width and shorten;
  • unclip the clips from the eaves, open the sash and put on the brackets according to the marks, make sure that they fit snugly and evenly;
  • you can fasten the curtain rod and the canvas to it.

On scotch tape

If you are looking for a simple and at the same time reliable way to hang blinds on a plastic window with your own hands and not damage the profile, then the option of attaching to tape is the most optimal. Here it is important to glue the cornice correctly so that the canvas hangs straight down, without distortions, otherwise there will be ugly overlaps and gaps on the sides and bottom, in the end the blinds will quickly break.

Installation steps:

  • assemble the blinds according to the attached diagram;
  • try on the window, if necessary, cut it from the side and along the length, taking into account that the minimum gap between the canvas and the protruding elements of the window is 5-10 mm;
  • mark the extreme points of the cornice;
  • draw a line between them, ideally it should be strictly parallel to the windowsill;
  • if the geometry of the opening is not ideal, make a plumb line from a rope and a weight, attach it to the marks, mark the side lines where the edges of the canvas will pass, and straighten the line along which the cornice will be glued, let it be better to have a slight skew at the top and bottom than ugly gaps and overlaps on the sides;
  • wipe the place where the cornice is fixed with a solvent or acetone;
  • remove the protective film from the double-sided tape, and glue the cornice strictly along the line;
  • check the operation of the canvas, if it clings somewhere, then it will be correct to remove the system, clean the installation site and glue it again.

Sometimes the tape is not glued to the cornice, but special fasteners with a magnet or hooks are included. Installation of such a model takes place according to the identical scheme described above.

The video clearly demonstrates that even a child and a woman can glue the blinds on scotch tape.

How to hang blinds on brackets

Bracket mounting is advisable when you need to hang medium or heavy blinds, as well as when it comes to ceiling and wall mounting. For fixing the cornice to the ceiling, on the upper slope or on the window frame profile, standard snap brackets are suitable, which are usually included in the kit. To install the blinds on the wall, as a rule, you need brackets with an extension, since the window sill or radiators protrude from below.

For work you will need:

  • drill;
  • roulette;
  • pencil;
  • level;
  • square;
  • a 2.5 mm drill, if the brackets will be screwed to a metal-plastic or wooden profile, a 5-8 mm drill if you have to make holes in concrete and other loose surfaces and install dowels;
  • screwdriver or screwdriver.

Step-by-step instruction:

  • collect the blinds, the canvas does not need to be fastened at this stage;
  • depending on the installation location, attach the curtain rod to the ceiling or wall;
  • outline the edges and locations of the brackets, do not forget that they should not interfere with the moving elements of the cornice;
  • connect the marks with a line, the side brackets should be equidistant from the center, it is recommended to install 3 support points on standard openings: 2 on the sides, 1 in the middle;
  • check with a level and a square how the line runs, it should be strictly parallel to the floor, the horizontal slope of the opening and the wall / ceiling interface.

Do not forget that when attaching blinds to a wall or ceiling, the curtain should overlap the side slopes of the opening by at least 10 mm, optimally 50-400 mm, depending on the design and width of the selected curtain.

Make a plumb line from a rope and a stud, attach it to the extreme marks and check if the curtain hangs straight, straight down and if gaps are formed on the sides.

  • Drill the holes according to the marks, if necessary, insert the plastic part of the dowel, it should be flush to the surface;
  • fix the brackets with self-tapping screws;
  • fasten the belt and check its operation.
