Stage 4. Getting started

Having decided on the amount of consumables, make a markup. To do this, you can build a primitive compass using a pair of rods and a rope. Draw a circle. The size can be any, although the best option is with a radius of 175-200 cm (focus on the required capacity).

Step 5. Support legs

On the perimeter, mark the points at which the support posts will be installed (there will be seven of them). To do this, mark the distance from the assumed center, which is equal to the future radius. Focusing on the marks, dig small holes 0.6-0.7 meters deep for the supports. In addition, you need to remove the top fertile soil layer around the entire perimeter.

Cover the bottom of each hole with a crushed stone "pillow", on top of which pour a 10-centimeter layer of sand. Thoroughly tamp all this and install the support pillars. Do not forget to treat the ends of the posts that will be immersed in the ground with a protective waterproofing mixture, preferably bitumen mastic, before installing.

Make sure that the height of the uprights above the floor is the same as the height of the arbor. The post that is centered should be short to floor level. Fix the racks, fill them with concrete, use a plumb line to check the verticality of each of them. Wait until the concrete is completely dry and start creating the base.

Note! There is also another construction option. After marking at six points, place the appropriate number of concrete blocks instead of digging holes. To do this, in the places of future corners, drive in reinforcing rods 1.5 meters long, then drill holes in the blocks and put them (blocks) on the reinforcement. Then make a strapping from the beams according to the "well" principle (as shown in the diagram).

Stage 6. Gender

Next, proceed to the floor. To do this, you need lags, and, as you know, you can also do them yourself. Use 7x3 cm boards or 10x5 cm bars to create lags. Using nails or self-tapping screws, fix them to all posts. Then install the waterproofing - it can be any suitable material, for example, roofing material, covered with plastic wrap.

The floor can be laid directly on top of the insulation. Use boards or composite materials for this. Do not forget about the mandatory treatment with antiseptic and other protective agents! Stage 7. Railings

Stage 8. Roof

Creating the frame of the gazebo


The erection of the frame begins with the laying of a hexagonal base made of square beams, which is also called the lower strapping. The beams form a hexagon and are connected on the support pillars with a lock to the floor of the tree, as shown in the figure.

First of all, a lock is cut out at the ends of the beams, treated with protective impregnations. After careful adjustment, through holes are cut out in the locks and put on the rod, as shown in the photo.

  • The temporary measure for aligning the vertical axes is removed after the strapping is installed on top of the structure.
  • The middle harness is the future railing. For better stability of the building, the railings are installed in the middle of the structure.

  • Next, the installation of the roof frame begins. A board is cut along the diameter of the hexagon, onto which a hexagonal post is installed in the center. The rafters will diverge from it.
  • The six rafters should fit snugly against the edges of the support post. On the other hand, they should cut into the supporting top rail. The whole structure is reinforced with self-tapping screws.

Next, the type of foundation is selected depending on the quality of the soil and the weight of the future structure. Usually, for small arbors, a columnar foundation is made of wood, but if there is a hexagonal arbor made of brick, then a massive strip or monolithic foundation is required.

  • The first step is to mark the circle using an impromptu compass. One rod is installed in the center, a rope of the required length is tied to it with a second rod at the end and a circle is drawn.
  • Then the circle is marked into six parts and the location of the foundation pillars is marked. Six pillars around the circumference and one pillar in the center to support the flooring.
  • In the places of the future pillars, holes are dug 50 cm deep and 40 cm wide.
  • A 10 cm layer of crushed stone is laid on the bottom and carefully rammed, after which a pillar is erected using bricks and cement mortar.

Important. Support pillars should rise 15-20 cm above the surface of the site to provide ventilation under the gazebo. The rod must be painted or treated with bitumen mastic before installation.


By creating hexagonal gazebos on a columnar foundation, instead of pillars, you can use asbestos-cement pipes or install a formwork in the pit 20 cm above the ground, which you can fill with concrete mortar. After the creation of the pillars, the remaining space is covered with gravel and tamped, then a layer of gravel is covered over the entire area of ​​the removed soil under the gazebo.

The wooden hexagonal gazebo should not come into contact with the stone, therefore, several layers of roofing material are laid on the pillars. You can coat the top of the support post with bitumen mastic. This completes the creation of the foundation and you can start building the frame of the gazebo.

Creating the frame of the gazebo


The erection of the frame begins with the laying of a hexagonal base made of square beams, which is also called the lower strapping. The beams form a hexagon and are connected on the support pillars with a lock to the floor of the tree, as shown in the figure.

First of all, a lock is cut out at the ends of the beams, treated with protective impregnations. After careful adjustment, through holes are cut out in the locks and put on the rod, as shown in the photo.


Next, the stiffeners for the flooring are installed. Each edge is made from a flat board, one end of which is fixed to the central support post, the other to the outer support post. All connections are made using metal corners.


The hexagonal pergola structure has six support pillars at each corner that support the roof. The pillars must have the same length and, before installing them, a hole is drilled in the end for a metal rod.

After that, the pillars are put on top of the rod and additionally fixed with metal corners, strictly controlling the vertical position using a level. After the installation of the pillars, the flooring is installed in the form of boards.

For laying tiles or linoleum, it is necessary to sew up the floor with OSB or fiberboard, having previously treated them with protective solutions. Installing the roof of the gazebo

It is recommended to bring the lower part of the rafters 20-25 cm outside the structure to drain the flowing water from the foundation. The lower part of the rafters is fixed to the upper harness, and the upper part is fixed to the upper part of the headstock, as shown in the photo. With lighter structures, the roof frame is assembled on the ground, after which it is installed on the top rail in the assembled state.
