Mercedes benz e class 4th generation. The costs will definitely be: choose a Mercedes-Benz E-Class W212 with mileage

The good must be replaced with the best, especially if it is one of the Mercedes-Benz models. And even the quite successful E-class W 211, which defended the brand's honor in the upper-middle segment, became obsolete over time, and in 2009 the company released a new "Yeshka". No one was surprised that she became larger and more comfortable - the design concept shocked, first of all. Moving away from biodesign in favor of chopped forms a la W 124 - not everyone was ready for this turn of events.

The predecessor of our today's hero, Mercedes in the 211st body, received the main criticism for the clearly reduced workmanship, an increased number of failures and a small resource of a number of nodes. Many fans of the brand attributed this fact to the unsuccessful merger with Chrysler and the technological templates they introduced.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 250 CDI (W212) "2009-12

In particular, the SBC system, which was installed before the restyling of the model, the quality of the engines, the quality of the gearboxes after the restyling and the quality of the body painting, were ostracized. The criticism, it would seem, was taken very carefully, but the new Mercedes inherited both engines and gearboxes from its ancestor, albeit in slightly modernized versions.

However, the model had enough advantages. First of all, comfort has improved due to the use of a new active suspension, improved aerodynamics and a new mechatronic cabin. In addition, the passport and, most importantly, the real fuel consumption has significantly decreased due to the transition mainly to engines with direct fuel injection, a seven-speed automatic transmission, and also the aerodynamic resistance has decreased. They took special care of safety: among the options there was a night vision system, a radar for the emergency braking system and cruise control, a blind spot monitoring system, "smart" airbags, and lateral support adjustments. Well, the body, of course, has become even stronger.

The restyling of 2013 was remembered by many precisely for the fact that the hand simply will not rise to call it a facelift. The exterior was redrawn very thoroughly: the car received new head optics, and with the help of small touches, the appearance was incredibly transformed - from a rough and faceted shell, the car turned into an example of an elegant style with an admixture of high-tech. The salon was also ennobled: there was more color and smooth lines in it, and in addition, they abandoned the gloomy gray plastic and massive steering wheel.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 250 (W212) "2013 – present.

We also worked with the technology thoroughly - the line of gasoline engines was replaced with a new one in 2011, removing the rather outdated and frankly unsuccessful motors of the M271 and M272 series. After restyling, the five-speed gearboxes of the 722.6 series were almost completely replaced by the seven-speed 722.9, and in 2014 the newest "nine-stage" was also installed on the E350 BlueTech. LEDs settled in optics, but the night vision system was removed from the range of options. In this form, the model was produced until 2016, when it was replaced by a completely new car in the back of the W 213, which became much more interactive, economical and, perhaps, even more comfortable.

As for reliability, there has not been an obvious decrease in the number of failures, and the cost of operation has even increased, despite the age of children, in general. I propose to understand this situation in a little more detail.

Body and interior

The oldest cars are now approaching the age of seven. It is still too early to talk about any punctures in the anti-corrosion protection, the cars are well painted, and traces of corrosion can be found only with a very careful examination. The minimal breakdown of the joint sealant on the sill and trunk panels with subtle traces of rust is undoubtedly a bad sign. Such defects are encountered regularly, but so far they do not cause any particular problems. And most often they are associated with "shock loads" - first of all, operation in hot summers, salty winters, diagonal distortions and races on dead roads.

Obvious corrosion at the seams or at the edges of arches and thresholds is very rare, unless, of course, the car has been in a serious accident with the replacement of panels with non-original ones or serious work on straightening damaged elements. By and large, if you notice corrosion, then you don't have to look at the car any further: these are consequences of either an accident, or a very tough operation, all other problems at such a childhood do not yet manifest themselves.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 350 4MATIC (W212) "2013 – present.

Well, if you are looking far into the future, then look for a car with a flawlessly intact joint sealant and apply an additional layer of anticorrosive on the bottom - the protection looks weak, despite the large amount of plastic, and the internal cavities need protection, the experience of past generations of the E-class says that it is better to do it right away.

It is also recommended to clean the "aquarium" - a niche under the windshield. The drains are small and quickly become dirty with the remnants of leaves - the body is usually not in danger from this, but there will be many problems in the electrical part, and it will spill into the interior. Rubber seals dry out after three to five years, and the interior flooring will get wet further.

The radiator brackets and various small things under the hood will tell a lot about the operating conditions. On cars that spend the night in a damp underground garage or in a snowdrift on the street, light corrosion will be on many nodes and fasteners of the "engine compartment" - this is a feature of many fresh and expensive cars.

A large number of plastic parts on the bottom and their price can play a cruel joke. Even if the metal of the body is flawless, it may take a lot of money to bring the car to perfect condition. The aerodynamic panels of the engine compartment, wheel arch liners (there was a revocable campaign on the front ones) and in general all the lower plastic, including the pads of the suspension arms, are easily damaged. If the M271 series motor, the most common on these cars, is installed, and an oil cup is leaking, then the plastic of the engine compartment is most likely in a very poor condition even on cars from 2012-2013.

Peeling chrome, door handles and windshield wipers' leashes are the trouble of cars from Moscow and St. Petersburg, road chemicals quickly kill all decorative coatings.

On a car with a panoramic sunroof, the guides are in the risk zone, they get dirty and creak. If you do not pay attention to this, you can burn the drive motor or break the rollers and levers of the system. And the very first rain will increase the number of problems at times. The drainage at the panoramic sunroof, by the way, clogs up much faster than that of a simple one. It is worth blowing every year and this must be done very carefully - the tubes are attached, how to put it mildly, very weakly, they easily fly off when exposed to compressed air, after which you will have to remove the entire hatch mechanism and put the tubes on the clamps.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG (W212) "2013 – present

Optics before restyling, both front and rear, quickly lose their tightness and sweat. And also blocks of ignition of xenon headlights and control units also gain moisture. In general, when driving through puddles and washing the engine compartment, you need to be very careful, it is better to use special cleaners for this, not water. There are enough electronic blocks here.

After restyling, the optics have become better, in any case, the headlights are not prone to fogging, but the beautiful "check marks" of the LED lights can go out. Their repair has already been mastered, but most of the services will offer to replace the entire headlight. Cars with LED dipped beam have another problem: "eternal" LEDs actually last only a couple of years, they usually lose their luminosity in summer, in traffic jams. It is strongly recommended to use only DRLs in such conditions, and not to those close to you.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 250 CDI AU-spec (W212) "2013 – present.

Rear LED lights not only dazzle those standing behind in a traffic jam, but also suffer from the gradual failure of LEDs - the reason is usually in the oxidation of the board and leaks in the lamp. Officially, it is not collapsible, but the Dremel works wonders, often it is enough to just put the power connector inside, and see the price of the new headlight for yourself ...

The loss of the washer caps and the breakdown of the nozzles themselves is another flaw, the caps can be considered a consumable, and if you put the Chinese ones, then several pieces may "go away" a month. If the mirrors creak when folding, then carefully inspect the mounting brackets: a crust of oxides on aluminum will hint that it is advisable to inspect the body once more for corrosion.

The salon of cars is full of various servos and electronics. There is wiring everywhere, control modules for everything in the world, and everything is very carefully and complexly assembled. Cars before restyling generally look gloomier, but the quality of interior materials in basic trim levels, oddly enough, is better than that of restyling, and expensive leather is not always more durable than cheap leatherette of inexpensive versions.

But with runs for "a hundred", both leatherette and leather surrender - the driver's seat begins to be covered with a network of cracks. In general, the quality of the interior is very high: a few unsuccessful elements like the automatic transmission shift paddles, steering wheel buttons and seat control buttons only emphasize how carefully the rest of the details are made. Of the serious disadvantages, only thermal sensitivity can be noted - at low temperatures, the interior begins to thunder, especially on restyled models, and the suspension echoes it. Again, cars after 2013 release are reported to have slightly worse sound insulation, but perhaps it's just the noisier engines of the new generation that create a similar effect.

The Command multimedia system fails relatively rarely. Most often, failures are associated with the rear camera module, it is connected directly to the "head" of the device and with a CD changer. A few more problems are caused by non-standard firmware with Russification and new navigation for cars from Europe, such software often works unstable.

Too many problems for a relatively fresh car? But pay attention, "E-shki" are being exploited for slaughter. They work both with corporate cars and personal cars for those who drive themselves and do not consider it an expensive limousine.

Electronics and Electrical

In addition to the complexity of the problems, the minimum. It doesn't break very often, but if it breaks ... If you don't light a cigarette, don't discharge the batteries, and monitor the generator's health, then all the complex electronic stuffing works stably. Of the serious troubles, one can only recall the piezo injectors and the OM651 motor control unit, this is a 2.2 diesel. The injectors were dying, the block was changed along with them, but a newer version of the control unit sometimes loses power to the injectors. In general, electronics from Delphi have shown themselves not in the best way. After the warranty period, all this changes extremely reluctantly, check it upon purchase.

Electronic components in the engine compartment often suffer from leaks, especially the ignition and headlight control units. The keyless entry system is sensitive to strong interference, failures happen too often, and besides, it can simply drain the battery in just a day or two, giving false positives. For the rest, you just need to remember that all servos, displays and touch panels have a limited resource, and besides, these things are quite fragile. And in the performance of Mercedes they are also expensive. There are very few machines that, when diagnosed, show a complete absence of errors and failures in the operation of executive devices.

Brakes, suspensions and steering

The braking system is fully consistent with the brand's standards: high quality of all components and excellent performance. The small resource of discs and pads is a little alarming, but this is a consequence of the active work of stabilization systems, drying of brake discs, and the weight of the car is rather big, under two tons.

Front air suspension cost

Price for original:

181 580 rubles

Suspensions on the W 212 are famous for their comfort and good mileage; up to a mileage of 70-100 thousand kilometers, they can withstand almost everything, even with 18-inch disks. The secret is that the front is now not a double-lever, but an ordinary MacPherson, it is simpler and more reliable. The rear suspension was seriously reworked, and it better withstands a lot of new cars - the old versions of the multi-link were structurally little different from the suspension of cars in the back of the W 201 thirty years ago. Here are just electronically controlled shock absorbers here in the stock configuration, which significantly increases costs in case of wear or serious damage, and the electronics have a finite resource.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 220 CDI (W212) "2009-12
The air suspension has become noticeably stronger, once again improved protection from road dirt, pipelines and electronics, including all sensors, have become more reliable. The resource of "pneuma" is stable for more than 150 thousand kilometers, but it rather needs to be measured in years, because the wear of the elements is largely related to the age of the cylinders.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 350 4MATIC (W212) "2009-12

The electric power steering does not cause problems, it was installed on cars with gasoline engines of the M274, M276 series and some diesel ones. But the pump of a conventional power steering on the M272 and M271 does not differ in resource, the high load on the unit when using wide rubber affects. The resource of the rack, steering rods and tips is quite large - the tips and rods need to be checked and changed closer to one hundred thousand kilometers, and the rack usually does not need to be replaced with a small backlash even with runs over three hundred thousand kilometers. Malfunctions of the Servotronic system (at Mercedes this is called "parametric steering", surprisingly, extremely rare.

Transmission

The mechanical boxes and the transmission itself are extremely reliable, fortunately they have been worked out over the years. And even the all-wheel drive transmission is distinguished by its resource and reliability. Unless the elements of the front gearbox and front axle drive can fail with runs up to hundreds of thousands of kilometers. The transfer case is at risk only on all-wheel drive cars with a top-end three-liter diesel engine and on AMG versions.

With automatic transmissions, everything is a little more complicated. Until 2011, most of the four-cylinder cars were equipped with an old and very reliable five-speed gearbox of the 722.6 series, which had been debugged and improved for a long time. By the way, the latest firmware for this unit dates back to 2014, with them the wear of the linings of the gas turbine engine slightly decreases due to the less active work of blocking on the "cold" one and an increase in the "adaptability" margin. By modern standards, a very reliable unit, with a resource of mechanics and valve body of the order of 250-300 thousand kilometers, without "children's problems". With the timely replacement of the blocking lining of the gas turbine engine with runs of 150-200 thousand kilometers and frequent oil changes, it does not cause much trouble until the moment of wear of the main clutches, bushings and planetary gears. On the E200 versions, this automatic transmission can be found up to 2013.

The automatic transmission of the 722.9 series, aka 7G -tronic, which has been installed on six-cylinder versions of cars since 2009 and on other cars since 2011, cannot boast of such sophistication and trouble-freeness. The main difficulties were eliminated even on the restyled W 211, but the W 212 also had a lot of problems. And the first variants of 7Gtronic +, optimized for "start-stop" modes, also added failures. Valve body failures, wiring and overheating are still pursuing boxes. And, perhaps, this automatic transmission is one of the most serious shortcomings of post-styling cars.

However, it certainly has its advantages: the fuel consumption of cars with a seven-speed automatic transmission is surprisingly low - in combination with petrol "fours" the average can be less than eight liters, and with diesel OM651 - even less than six liters. It is highly recommended to change the oil every 30-40 thousand kilometers and install an external automatic transmission radiator, as well as remove the box thermostat.

Since 2014, the 9G -tronic nine-speed automatic transmission has been installed on BlueTech diesel models. Again many "children's problems" were revealed, but at the moment they are eliminated under warranty, and there are almost no overheating difficulties on diesel engines. With such an automatic transmission, fuel consumption is still slightly reduced. In "highway" modes, diesel consumption drops below three liters per hundred, and this is for a two-ton car.

Engines

Pre-styling motors are basically a hit of recent years, represented by the 1.8-liter M271 Evo engine with a compressor, as well as the M272 series engines. By the time the W 212 was launched, most of the engine problems had been eliminated, although the M271 still has a low resource of the timing chain and sprockets, and the M272 still periodically wears out the intake manifold and lifts the cylinders.

Still, all motors of this generation too often suffer from oil leaks: an unsuccessful filter "glass" flows on the M271, and on the M272 there is also a heat exchanger. Take a look at the list of problems with these motors: in fact, the difficulties are the same, but the age of the machines is less. But given a well-tuned design, serious problems arise only if all warnings are persistently ignored.

Under the hood Mercedes-Benz E 200 NGT (W212) "2011–12

The main trouble of the M272 - the small resource of the timing chain - retreated. Motors of later years of production have a resource of this unit on average about 200 thousand kilometers, and besides, the chain rarely jumps right away. On the M271, you need to follow the chain in both directions, it often stretches and jumps at runs less than 100 thousand kilometers, but again, it warns of wear with specific noise in advance. Since runs over 200 thousand kilometers are still not so common, there are few complaints about these engines, and they are mainly related to the M271. Motors of the M273 series are much less common, but in fact do not differ from the M272 in operation, except that the scuffing of the cylinders on them can be found much more often.

There are a lot of diesel engines of the ОМ651 series in various versions for forcing and powering. Until 2011, the units were supplied with piezo injectors, which were prone to leaks and malfunctions. This often led to water hammer and piston burnout. Only the younger version of the motor, which was equipped with conventional nozzles, escaped the problem. As part of the revocable campaign, the injectors on all engines after 2011 were changed to electromagnetic, and the injection control unit was also changed.

Timing chain cost

Price for original:

10 499 rubles

The design of the motor is quite complex, it has many points requiring attention, but the workmanship is very good, and in most cases, failures occur due to the fault of the fuel equipment, intake manifold flaps, thermostat, EGR valve, particulate filter and sensors.

By a run of 200-250 thousand kilometers, a turbine usually dies. At about the same mileage, the timing mechanism needs to be replaced. Another unpleasant feature of the motor is the tendency to "sticking" injectors. Specialized services usually know how to cope with this scourge, but the owners still recommend preventive removal and cleaning at least once a year. Little things like overrunning clutch and APC valve failures are almost never found on cars with low mileage.

Diesel V 6 series OM642 are considered one of the most reliable Mercedes-Benz in recent years. Very resourceful, with very reliable fuel equipment - it is deservedly appreciated by those who want power and stability of work. The problems are mostly clean and nothing more.

After 2011, new motors began to appear on cars. There are significantly fewer reviews for them, but a number of patterns can be distinguished.

The engines of the M276 series that replaced the M272 have no problems with the piston group and with the collectors, but on the other hand, there was already a revocable campaign on the timing - they changed the dampers and hydraulic chain tensioners, and at low mileage the chains jumped. Motors 276.8 with serial numbers up to 276.8xx 30 001280 and 276.9 with serial numbers up to 276.9xx 30 406602 were recalled. In addition, the oil pump pressure is too low, and there are often cases of damage to the liners and the crankshaft. Piezo injectors on these motors do not show themselves very well, but so far they are being changed as part of warranty repairs.

The inline fours of the M274 series received an aluminum block, a delicate piston group and turbocharging. On the E-class, only a 2.0-liter version was installed in two degrees of boost. The motor has shown itself well so far, but there are cases of piston group scuffing, the motor does not tolerate the slightest overheating very well, and besides, it is sometimes prone to oil consumption in very childhood.

What should you choose?

The cost of operating premium business cars has risen significantly over the past decade, and it takes some getting used to. You wanted the flow rate of the Solaris and the dynamics of the 911? Get it, but you still have to pay - not for fuel, but for repairs and maintenance. Now these cars are for the most part pleasing to their owners. They are solidly made, but they have enough nodes with a limited service life and outright "pitfalls" like the chains on the M271 and the 7G -tronic automatic transmission. All of them can cause a lot of trouble even for the most diligent car owners, subject to the "factory" maintenance intervals.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG (W212) "2009-11

With a diesel engine, the E-class can even claim to be a very economical car to operate, especially if your runs are long and the roads are smooth. Comfort and safety are undoubtedly among the best features of the model, here it is head and shoulders above any new car that can be purchased for comparable amounts, and believe me, no "strong" "Japanese" can compare with it.

But the costs will definitely be - small at first, big later, and how much of them will go to your wallet is difficult to predict.

Would you buy yourself the penultimate E-class?

Initially, the name E-class was interpreted as Einspritzung and meant "fuel injection", but then the meaning of the letter "E" was changed to Executivklasse or "business class".

Officially, the E-Classe brand was registered on April 1, 1999. A scandal broke out immediately. It turned out that a French citizen patented this name a year ago. A lawsuit was brought against Daimler AG, and the concern was forced to buy out the patent for 100 thousand German marks.

In March 2015, the last tenth generation of the E-class Mercedes, consisting of a sedan, coupe and convertible, was spotted in northern Europe during low-temperature tests. Their appearance was developed in the same stylistic decision as the C-class, as well as the GLC crossover. The world premiere of new products took place at the Detroit Auto Show. It is worth noting that the German concern described the latest generation as the smartest in the business class.

The models are built on the new modular MRA platform, thanks to which the vehicle length has increased by 43 mm (up to 4923 mm), and the wheelbase has increased by 65 mm (up to 2939 mm). At the same time, the weight of the car decreased by 100 kg, and the drag coefficient Cx decreased from 0.25 to 0.23.

The suspension design has been simplified, with MacPherson struts now installed on the front axle, rather than the double wishbones as before.

In the cabin, the digital dashboard, consisting of two huge monitors, immediately catches the eye. One reflects the speedometer with a tachometer, and the other is connected to the computer and the entertainment system.

At first, only two basic modifications were supplied to Russia: E200 and E220d. The first is equipped with a 2.0-liter petrol engine with 184 hp. and 300 Nm of torque. Under the hood of the second is a diesel with the same displacement of 195 hp. and 400 Nm of torque.

As a transmission, only nine-speed automatic transmissions are installed on all Eski vehicles.

In the fall of 2016, a more powerful version of the E350d with a six-cylinder V-shaped turbodiesel engine with a capacity of 258 hp will appear on the domestic market. and 620 Nm of torque. Sales of all-wheel drive modifications will not begin until the fourth quarter.

A hybrid version of the S-class with a power plant based on a four-cylinder engine and an electric motor, with a total power of 279 hp, has also been developed.

Air suspension and a sports package with controlled shock absorbers and reduced ground clearance are offered as optional equipment.

Also added to the list of options is active cruise control, which is able to drive a car at speeds up to 210 km / h. He himself recognizes not only the road and signs, but also buildings. Up to 130 km / h, the autopilot does not even need marking. He himself defines the boundaries of the strip and adheres to them.

The machine is also capable of changing lanes. The driver only needs to indicate in which direction it is necessary to change lanes, after which the car will execute the command, provided that the adjacent lane is free.

The electronics can also detect obstacles on the road and activate the braking system. If a collision is imminent, a loud sound will be heard in the passenger compartment, warning people of impending danger.

In order to tell in detail and as accurately as possible about the new generation, it is necessary to publish a huge amount of information, which is simply not realistic to describe and explain within the framework of one article. Therefore, having told you about the most important changes in the new E-class, we decided that the time has come to talk about no less important new technologies, about additional options that will be available from the start of sales of the new model, as well as about its breathtaking new functions. ranging from high quality acoustic systems to semi-automatic autopilot.

E-class with a star on the hood

As you know, C-class cars with a Mercedes brand badge on the hood, as well as with a logo located on the radiator grill, are available for purchase today. Anyone can choose a car with the emblem located directly on the hood, or this emblem with the company's badge is located on the radiator grille. If you buy a car and want it to have an emblem on the hood, then you should at least purchase such a car with an average configuration, or you will have to order this "star" on the car only as an option.

E-class with star on the radiator grille

If you prefer and wish to have a large Mercedes emblem logo on the radiator grille, then you need to purchase the external Avantgarde package. This package consists of exclusive exterior elements of the radiator grille, which in turn consists of two lines and a large one.

AMG Line (AMG body kit)

AMG body kit as an option, also includes an exclusive radiator grille with a large emblem. In contrast to the Avantgarde body kit, in addition to the radiator grille, the AMG vehicle has a sportier front bumper and a sporty trim on the side sills.

Model E 220 d (W213)

The new E-class has a new 2.0 liter diesel engine with a capacity of 194 hp. (model E220 D). This power unit replaced the 2.1 liter engine with a capacity of 150 hp. (model E200 D). The new engine will run more smoothly and consume significantly less.

Model E 350 d (W213)

The second diesel engine will be installed on the E350 D. The power of the six-cylinder diesel engine is 258 hp. This engine is a modified 252 hp 350 BlueTec powertrain from the previous generation.

Models E 200 and E 300

Gasoline models are equipped with direct injection and turbochargers. Piezo injectors of engines in the E200 and E300 models can make up to 5 fuel injections in one working stroke of the power unit, at high pressure (200). The E200 model has a power of 184 hp. The E300 is equipped with a 245-horsepower gasoline engine.

Model E 400

Mercedes-Benz E400 in the back of W213 is equipped with a 333 hp V6 petrol engine. This power allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.3 seconds. And what is typical, despite the good average fuel consumption is surprising, it is 7.7 liters per 100 km.

Model AMG E 43 4MATIC

Two models of the E-Class of the AMG series are planned for release. These are the AMG E43 and E63 versions. Sales of the E43 AMG will begin in September 2016, while the more powerful E63 AMG will only hit the market towards the end of the year.

Transmission: Automatic transmission Mercedes 9G-Tronic

Most of the new E-Class models will feature a new 9-speed automatic transmission. True, Mercedes will continue to equip cars with four-cylinder gasoline engines with 6-speed manual transmissions, but diesel E-class models will henceforth be supplied only with. Recall that diesel cars in the back of W212 were supplied with both manual and automatic transmissions.

Standard E-Class: Steel suspension and adaptive dampers

As standard, E-class cars have steel with adaptive shock absorbers. But as an option, the buyer can equip the base model with a sports suspension, the ground clearance of which is lowered by 15 mm. In addition, the chassis has sportier settings and an electrically adjustable Dynamic Control Body.

Additional E-class option: Air suspension

For those buyers who do not like conventional steel suspension, Mercedes offers air suspension with automatic road monitoring system. This control is carried out using three video cameras (two in front, one in the rear), which scan the road surface and, depending on its conditions, transmit information to the electronics to automatically adjust the suspension to a specific road surface.

Lightweight construction with aluminum and special steel

To reduce the weight of the body, the designers used parts from various metals in the car. For example, the hood, trunk lid, front fenders and many other parts are made from. In the overall structure of the weight of the machine, aluminum parts account for 16 percent of the total number (weight) of all elements of the machine. Also, the designers did not abandon the traditional high-strength steel. Parts made from this material make up 6 percent of the total body weight.

Aerodynamics: Drag coefficient 0.23

With a drag coefficient of 0.23, the Mercedes E-class is the best in its class. For example, a BMW 5-series has 0.25 or 0.26 (depending on the modification and engine). To achieve low air resistance in the E-Class (as well as in the C-Class), the radiator uses Air Panel adjustable louvers, which distribute the air flow according to the vehicle speed.

Analog instrument panel

When the official photos of the new E-class appeared on the network, all the images were published with a digital instrument panel, which replaced the traditional analog panel. But most cars actually have an analog one, with an 8.4-inch screen in the center (pictured above).

On the right-hand center of the console is a 12.3-inch LCD screen with the infotainment system controlled by the COMAND Online System. In particular, vehicles with COMAND Online are equipped with a navigation system with a hard disk on which maps are stored. A head-up display is also available as an option.

Digital instrument panel

As an additional option in the E-class, the buyer can order a 12.3-inch digital panel instead of an analog device. , which in turn is also available only as an additional option. Thus, if you want to buy an E-class with a digital dashboard, then you will also have to order a few more mandatory functions. The cost of such additional equipment can be around 5,000 euros.

Digital instrument cluster: Ability to customize the display of instruments

The digital instrument panel is valuable for its quality of display of these instruments, as well as the ability to customize the individual display of all the necessary information on the display. So in cars with digital dashboards, there are three types of display settings: classic, sport and progressive design. But in addition to the standard settings, the driver also has a mode for individual settings.

Interior lighting: 64 colors

Those who ordered a car with the packages "Avantgarde", "Exclusive" and "AMG Line" will receive in the salon. In this version, you can choose any color for the interior lighting (64 colors).

This way, you can change the colors and shades of the interior lighting and its shade every week throughout the year, which have never been repeated.

Comand Online system

Burmester: 3D Surround Sound System

A high-end audio system is available in the new E-class. But if you want something more, you can order the Burmester system (3D sound). True, you will have to pay at least 5800 euros for this.

Trunk volume: 540 liters

The boot volume of the new E-Class is 540 liters. If you want more, you have to wait a bit until Mercedes launches a station wagon (Fall 2016).

Folding rear seats

Unfortunately, the folding rear seats are only available either as an option (518 euros) or in richer trim levels.

Optics: Multi-beam LED headlights

For those who do not like newfangled technologies in the auto industry, the Mercedes E-Class is available in standard trim levels with conventional halogen headlights.

LED headlights are available as an option. The cost is 1029 euros. But the most highlight in the car are. Each matrix LED headlight has 84 individually controllable LEDs. Similar headlights have already been used on the Mercedes CLS. True, then only 24 diodes were used in them.

Adaptive illumination of matrix LED headlights

For example, if the car has moved off the lane, the driver will hear and see a warning. The same principle works when the vehicle is in the blind spot. If a collision is unavoidable, then these two systems can automatically maneuver autonomously without the driver's participation, turn the steering wheel in the right direction or stop the car urgently.

Drive Pilot System: Semi-Automatic Autopilot

The Drive Pilot system can maintain a certain speed without the participation of the driver, and at the same time.

This semi-automatic autopilot is very convenient when driving on the highway. Especially when the driver is behind the wheel for a long time during long journeys.

By enabling this function, the car can automatically accelerate to 130 km / h and then completely reduce the speed autonomously.

However, in urban environments with a heavy traffic (especially in traffic jams), this one is practically useless. The fact is that the semi-autopilot is automatically turned off if the car stops due to an obstacle for more than 3 seconds. That is, if the car has stopped on its own for more than 3 seconds, then the driver, in order to start driving again, must press the gas pedal again.

Emergency stop system

The new generation of the E-class is equipped with an active assistance system with the possibility of an automatic emergency stop of the machine. For example, sensors are installed in the steering wheel that scan the presence of the driver's hands on the steering wheel every half a minute. If the system does not detect the driver's hand, a warning appears on the dashboard and a loud warning tone sounds.

If the driver does not respond to the security warning, the vehicle will automatically stop. This is done in case of emergency, if the driver fell asleep while driving or lost consciousness.

Emergency braking

The E-Class is equipped with adaptive cruise control with emergency braking. In many other vehicles, adaptive cruise control has no function.

In the new E-class, the adaptive cruise control, maintaining a certain speed set by the driver, can not only automatically reduce the speed and maintain the distance, but can also pick up speed autonomously, and also, if necessary, apply emergency braking until the car comes to a complete stop.

Active lane change system

The new Mercedes E-class model can be equipped with an automatic lane change system. This system only works if the machine is equipped. For example, when the car is moving on autopilot, then when the turn signal is turned on, the car will automatically change to another lane.

Speed Limit Pilot System

Also, as an option, you can purchase a speed control system, which, using satellites, will determine the speed of the car, and using a camera located on the windshield, it will determine road signs limiting the speed of movement on certain sections of the road.

Further, if the system detects that the movement is going faster than the speed limit, then the car will automatically reduce speed. True, due to the peculiarities of the operation of satellite civil navigation, the error in determining the speed of the vehicle will be 5 km.

Traffic Sign Recognition System

With the help of the same front-facing video camera, the electronics itself can also detect other road signs. For example, if a car sees a sign "Pedestrian crossing", then the car will reduce engine speed and the system will be on the alert to stop the car urgently if necessary. Also, when detected, icons of these signs will appear on the E-Class dashboard to make the driver pay attention to them.

Pedestrian detection system

Another advantage of the autonomous emergency braking and auto-steering system using the semi-automatic autopilot is the ability. This system works at speeds up to 70 km / h. The electronics constantly monitor the road in front of the car. As soon as the system detects pedestrians moving at what speed (the system is able to detect even those who cross the road or move on a pedestrian on a bicycle), then first the driver receives a warning about the danger and, if the driver does not respond to the warning, the car will automatically apply emergency braking, can even steer so that the car does not skid, from preventing collisions with pedestrians (even if pedestrians rush about on the road).

Communication between other E-class vehicles

Autonomous communication between cars is gradually becoming a reality. ... For example, one car can transmit information about an accident to another. In this case, having received such information, you can either turn around and take a detour, or reduce the speed in advance in the place where the accident occurred.

Emergency braking when driving through intersections

Most emergency braking safety systems in the automotive industry only work when a collision with a vehicle in front of you is imminent.

In the new Mercedes E-class, a system is installed that allows you to cross your road at an intersection. If a danger is detected while driving through an intersection, your car will automatically slow down or stop completely.

The intersection control system operates at speeds up to 70 km / h. Up to this speed, a stereo camera located on the windshield is capable of detecting vehicles crossing the road.

Airbag belts

The new E-class is equipped with Beltbag seat belts. These belts for the rear passengers are equipped with an inflatable one, they only work in a frontal impact. The inflatable belt reduces the risk of injury from the belt in the event of a severe frontal collision.

Pre-Safe Pulse Side Safety System

Currently, most of the available vehicles on the world market do not provide sufficient protection for the driver and front passenger from side collisions. The fact is that only a thin door separates the driver and passenger from the external lateral impact, and, as a rule, cannot prevent severe injuries in a side impact.

In order to reduce the consequences of a side crash, Mercedes engineers have developed a system that shifts the front seats abruptly to the side (in the opposite direction from the impact) in the event of a side impact into the car. This happens abruptly enough, but not so hard that the driver and passenger are not injured.

E-Class: High-tech technology on wheels

Sales will begin around April 2016. The novelty will be a real innovative high-tech car. Currently, there are not so many machines with this level of technology on the market today.

For example, the new generation Audi Q7 also tried to surprise with its innovative safety features. As we can see, all premium cars in recent years have acquired more and more of the most advanced safety technologies and with them active driver assistance systems.

Thus, we can safely say that the coming years will be exciting, since most car brands, after the German auto companies showed the world how modern cars should look like, will be forced to equip their products with modern security systems.

1947 Mercedes 170 V

After the end of World War II in 1945, the Mercedes company had not yet thought about the development of its new car models. Therefore, after the end of the war, a pre-war model of the Mercedes 170 V car was sent to the conveyor. In 1947, 400 such cars were produced.

Despite the modesty of the car, this model 170 V was in those years, despite even the Spartan look of its interior.

1949 Mercedes 170 S Cabriolet A

In 1949, based on the 170 S, it presented to the public a two-door convertible with lots of chrome trim. But this car was not very popular at that time, since it cost insanely expensive for that money, about 16 thousand German marks.

1953 Mercedes 180

In 1953, the Mercedes automobile company made a leap into modernity, released the Mercedes 180 model with a self-supporting body. As a result, thanks to new technologies, the car received a modern one. The body shape of the car was called simply "Ponton".

Model 170 vs. Model 180

Here is a direct comparison of two generations of Mercedes cars. Center - Model 170 V. Left - Model 180, which was launched in 1953. This picture clearly shows what a huge step forward the Mercedes company made when it introduced the Mercedes 180 car model to its own and then to the world market. plant in parallel.

1956 Mercedes-190

The success of modern design was not long in coming. In the photo you can see the full car park of Mercedes cars. This parking lot is intended for sending cars to customers. Initially, the Mercedes of the 180th model was equipped with a 52-horsepower 1.8-liter engine. A little later, in 1956, this car additionally received its new 1.9 liter engine with 75 hp. This is how the first and well-known 190th Mercedes model was born.

Mercedes 180/190

Traditionally, in those years, the Mercedes company, in addition to civilian models based on them, also produced a platform for special vehicles. For example, the Mercedes company produced ambulances for other government agencies in the country. As a rule, cars left the factory without their rear end, on which the required body type was subsequently installed for a specific special service.

1961 Mercedes 190 "Heckflosse"

The Mercedes company has never officially admitted that it specifically monitors and follows its influence. But in 1961, a Mercedes 190 model with rear fenders, fashionable at that time, was brought to the car market. "

1965 Mercedes 200 "Heckflosse"

A car with rear unusual fashionable fenders was also supplied for the police. In those years, middle-class cars in their appearance resembled more full-size cars than the middle class and therefore caused great dissatisfaction among consumers. People demanded a more compact model from the manufacturer.

1968 Mercedes 200-280 "Stroke Eight" W114 / W115

Soon after the appearance of the fashionable rear fin, Mercedes decided to design the rear of the car in a more classic style. The point is this, the world fashion for the "fins" of the rear fenders quickly passed and as a result, the Mercedes company in 1968 was forced to release its new car model under the code factory designation "/ 8", in the back of W114.

Despite the bright and not very beautiful body colors, this car model "/ 8" was sold in 1 million 800 thousand copies, enjoying incredible popularity among its customers.

After the facelift of the "eight", this car received a new steering wheel with large notched ribs on the steering wheel itself (shock absorbers). In the event of an accident, it absorbs the impact of the driver on the steering wheel, thereby reducing the consequences of. The wooden steering wheel on the car was only available in the top versions.

1968 Mercedes 250 Coupe

In 1968, a coupe version, popular with all G8s, was introduced to the market. True, the proportions of the body itself were not without contradictions and left much to be desired. A total of 67 thousand copies of this model were produced.

1974 Mercedes 240 D 3.0

In 1974, Mercedes launched a new car model with a 3.0-liter diesel engine (W115 body) on the market. The power plant was 80 hp. The maximum speed is 148 km / h.

Testing

In the 70s, the Mercedes company worked on the creation. For testing in order to ensure the safety of the driver, the car was equipped with special protection. But whatever the protection, it did not always help out, in some cases, during the tests, the drivers were repeatedly seriously injured. Ultimately, conducting such tests was strictly prohibited at the state level.

1976 Mercedes W 123

A Mercedes car in this 123rd body is the most recognizable in the world. The popularity of this car model is largely due to the scope of its application. It was especially popular in the taxi industry, so the car has become a definite symbol of taxi transportation throughout Europe. Here's the thing. When the car entered the market in 1976, Mercedes in Germany was the only car company officially allowed to manufacture vehicles for taxi companies and private taxis. And as a result, the German auto company, having released a diesel model of the Mercedes W123 car painted in yellow, began to supply its cars to all major taxi companies in Germany on an ongoing basis.

Interior Mercedes W123

In the late 70s, a huge number of people could afford to buy this car, since the standard of living in Germany at that time, due to the growth in the well-being of the population, was growing at a decent pace, and such a rather conservative cost of this car model did not bother anyone at that time. For example, the interior of the W123 car in its usual configuration was rather modest and this allowed it to become at that time the most popular in the whole world. Especially among taxi companies, for which the cost of the car is usually very important.

In total, about 2.4 million copies were produced and released for sale. In particular, a huge number of these cars from 1976 to 1985 were sold to the power structures of Germany.

1977 Mercedes W 123 Long version

In the 70s, buses as taxis were in rather low demand. Therefore, in 1977, Mercedes introduced its long version of the W123 model, which was also massively sold in all taxi companies in Germany, as a passenger alternative. The car had a length of 5.35 meters and accommodated 7 passengers + a driver.

1977 Mercedes W 123 Coupe

Unlike the not very proportional coupe in the body of the W114 / W115, the two-door model in the body W123 received an elongated body (+9 centimeters to the wheelbase, in comparison with cars in the bodies of W114 and W115). What is surprising here is that some 9 centimeters were so able to transform the appearance of this auto-coupe. Ultimately, the two-door Mercedes W123 received a fantastic exterior for itself. This car was mainly sold in the United States.

1977 Mercedes W 123 T-Model (Estate)

In 1977, Mercedes introduced a slightly updated car.

Mercedes W 123 Electric

Electric cars are all the rage today. But, when no one thought about electric ones and many thought that the cost of fuel at a gas station would always be equal to the cost of 1 liter of water, Mercedes was already fully developing its model of an electric car based on the W123 body. True, at that time, bulky and heavy batteries occupied the entire luggage compartment in this station wagon.

Mercedes W 123 pickup

The W123 pickup car was so popular that even commercial auto pickups were produced on its basis, albeit in a small circulation.

1977 Mercedes W 123 Rally

In 1977, the Mercedes team won the exhausting London-Sydney with the Mercedes E280.

1984 Mercedes W 124

Many motorists around the world see the car as the latest and true classic car with a special spirit of legend in its class. Although at the initial stage, the car received many negative reviews, especially from the army of thousands of taxi drivers who complained about the poor quality of the car.

Despite negative criticism and low reviews, in 1985 the Mercedes W124 coupe was introduced to the car market.

Mercedes W 124 AMG Coupe

In the 1980s, AMG was not yet part of the Daimler-Benz industrial group (Mercedes). Therefore, the tuning was carried out on the basis of AMG's own lines. After the introduction of the W124 body in 1984, AMG launched the Mercedes 300 CE 3.4 AMG with a 3.3-liter petrol engine producing 272 horsepower.

1990 Mercedes W 124 Long version

In 1990, Mercedes launched its last extra-long version of the mid-range car. A feature of the Mercedes E260 was its length, which was 5.46 meters, it had six side doors. Since then, Mercedes has no longer produced long versions of these middle class cars (E-class).

In 1998, a diesel car model with a Common Rail Diesel system entered the market. But despite the extraordinary design of the new E-class in the back of the W210, numerous critical libels began to arrive at the car. criticism of various kinds appeared. The main problem for the car has become. Surprisingly, the fact remains that this car was covered with rust in just a few years.

1996 Mercedes W 210 T-Model (Station wagon)

In 1996, the Mercedes W210 entered the market in a station wagon with a huge trunk volume.

2001 Mercedes W 211

In 2001, a model was introduced to the market by Mercedes. The car's four-head optics are still round and have only slightly changed in appearance. But in this body there were no longer any. Mercedes has taken into account the criticism and all the complaints of the previous model W210. But this W211 model presented car owners with new problems, which were primarily associated with the SBC electro-hydraulic brakes. In 2006, this problem was eliminated when a restyled model of the company was introduced to the market.

2006 Mercedes W 211 Guard

2009 Mercedes W 212

In 2009, it was brought to the car market, which revolutionized the appearance of the car (especially from the front). The engineers still left the car with four headlights, but instead of round headlights, the optics design got sharp angles. Despite its revolutionary design looks, the car did not enjoy much success, and all due to fierce competition from companies and that outstripped this Mercedes in sales of mid-range cars. The squall demand for this car began after the body of the W212 car was restyled in 2013.

Here is a working and approved sketch of a W212 coupe.

Mercedes E 63 AMG (W 212)
