We install the siphon with our own hands. How to install a sink siphon How to attach a siphon to a sink

Full use of the kitchen is impossible without a sink. This is a plumbing device, consisting of two elements: a bowl and a siphon, which is directly connected to the sewer system. Correctly performed installation of the structure allows you to reliably protect the apartment from unpleasant odors from the pipe, harmful bacteria and microbes, in large quantities in the wastewater.

A siphon is a pipe with a bend that retains water and other small particles that are discharged into the sewer.

Varieties of models

There are several design options:

  1. Flask
  2. Crank
  3. Corrugated
  4. Hidden
  5. Flat

Bulb-shaped models are a prefabricated structure that can be quickly attached without the use of special tools.

The knee structure is one of the simplest among all the model options, which allows you to clean the blockage or change any elements in a matter of minutes. The pipe can be bent into a U or S shape so that the space can be used with maximum efficiency.

The corrugated version has a design similar to the pipe counterpart. The difference is in the use of a corrugated hose, which gives it the ability to bend in any direction. But there is also one significant drawback, the corrugated tube quickly clogs up, as a result of which you have to disassemble and clean more often. Even a person can connect and remove such a siphon without the use of special tools and plumbing knowledge.

The model is a hidden siphon, for wall or kitchen installation. It will not be visible from the outside, which allows you not to spoil the overall picture with your appearance. It is advisable to use this option in small kitchens.

Mounting the flask model

To make the correct connection, a diagram is attached to each kit, the main thing is to follow some rules

  1. For a tight connection between the bottom cover and the upper part of the body, a rubber gasket is installed
  2. The lid is tightly screwed on from the bottom
  3. A union nut is mounted on the branch pipe securing the siphon to the sink
  4. To adjust the position of the product in height, a conical washer is installed on the lower part of the branch pipe
  5. The branch pipe is connected to the cone and secured with a nut
  6. The outlet pipe is connected to the drain: the nut is pushed onto the branch pipe, after which the cone gasket is advanced to the stop.
  7. Final Assembly Step Connecting the Hose Connector to the Body with a Nut

The next step is to connect to the sink, which is also quite simple.

  • Make sure that the dimensions of the siphon are suitable for the sewer pipe. To create a sealed connection, a rubber gasket is required.
  • A protective mesh is installed on the drain hole in the sink
  • A siphon is attached to the sink with a screw with the obligatory installation of a rubber seal
  • The last step is to install the drain hose

After completion of the work, it is necessary to conduct tests to make sure that the structure is working and that there are no leaks. To do this, it is enough to turn on the water and make sure that all elements are tightly connected. By tightening the elements of the installed structure, leakage is eliminated. Sometimes water runs through in connection with the sink, so it is necessary to correct the seal, which is installed with a deviation.

Installation of a structure with an overflow

In addition to the installation steps for the conventional model, there are some additional steps to be taken. The branch pipe is connected to the bottom of the overflow pipe. This should be done only when the sink is connected to the siphon. The top of the tube is then attached to the sink overflow. The work is simple and not time consuming, but in the case of correct installation, the sink, filled with water, will fall into the sewer through the drain.

So that after the completion of the work there are no unnecessary problems, it is necessary to make the right choice, observing the simple rules of how to assemble a siphon for a sink in the kitchen

  1. Smooth-walled models are the easiest to clean.
  2. To exclude the ingress of an unpleasant odor during installation, it is better to plug the sewer pipe with a rag or put a plug.
  3. Before installing the rubber seal and screwing the siphon to the sink, you must degrease the area around the drain.
  4. For reliable protection against leaks, rubber seals are additionally sealed. The rest of the joints are subjected to the same procedure. Only the bottom cover of the siphon does not require this, because it will have to be unscrewed for cleaning.
  5. To prevent leaks at the bottom of the lid, tow can be used as a seal.
  6. Ideal if the siphon hole will exactly match the diameter of the sewer pipe hole.
  7. It is not necessary to purchase a siphon at the same time as the sink. This can be done as needed, the main thing is their combination in size and design.

It is not enough just to buy a siphon for your kitchen sink. It is important to install it correctly and for this you need to carefully study the instructions and clearly follow its recommendations. Often, inexpensive siphons are quicker and easier to install than expensive, more complex counterparts.

Even a beginner can cope with the installation of a siphon under a sink or bathroom without resorting to the help of a plumber. The designs of modern siphons are in most cases assembled by hand; in rare situations, you will need to use a screwdriver.

Let's consider the functional features of different types of siphons, we will give recommendations for choosing a bundle between a washbasin and a sewer pipe. In addition, we will describe step by step how to properly install the siphon under the sink, bathtub and washing machine.

Siphon device

The siphon is the connecting element between the sewer system and the washbasin. The device removes water, blocks the entry of unpleasant odors into the room and prevents the pipeline from clogging. As a rule, the siphon is mounted near a plumbing fixture (sink, sink, bathtub or washing machine) directly near the entrance to the sewer.

The standard equipment of the siphon includes the following elements:

The kit includes instructions detailing how to install the siphon. The assembly and installation process should be started only after reading it.

Varieties of siphons for the kitchen and bath: features of choice

There are several types of these plumbing devices. The models differ in design features, material of manufacture and appearance. To make it easier to make the right choice, you need to figure out the options for the design solutions of the siphon.

Pipe. Usually mounted under the bathroom sink. It is not recommended to use such a siphon in the kitchen, as it will have to be cleaned very often. The plus of the pipe model is its compactness and attractiveness. Outwardly, they resemble a curved pipe - this bend creates a water seal.

As a rule, the lower knee of this model is removed for cleaning. The disadvantage of the pipe siphon is that the water seal is not deep enough, which is why the water evaporates faster and provokes the appearance of a specific odor.

Bottle- the most common option. Rigid flask or bottle-shaped construction. Siphons of this type have a number of positive qualities:

  • the part, which is usually clogged due to poor-quality water or merging waste, can be easily unscrewed;
  • the siphon is easy to maintain;
  • long service life;
  • water never completely leaves the water seal, therefore the "bottle" design reliably retains odors;
  • the siphon is equipped with an overflow - if the pipes are clogged, the water will not rise beyond the limits regulated by the system and will not flood the room;
  • if small valuables get into the sink, they will remain in the tank - you can get them by unscrewing the bottom of the siphon.

The bottle model also has some disadvantages:

  • mounted only with standard sewer pipes, since the device has a rigid structure;
  • takes up a lot of space under the washbasin.

Corrugated siphon easy to install. The device consists of a release and a corrugated tube on a curved frame.

Advantages of corrugated models:

  • the ability to connect to a sewer pipeline placed in a non-standard way;
  • ease of installation and "moderate" pricing policy;
  • considered the most economical option;
  • the installer independently forms a bend for the water plug, which prevents unpleasant odors from entering the room through the sink;
  • the risk of leakage is minimal, since the pipe does not have any connections;
  • ensures high-quality drainage regardless of the distance between the floor and the washbasin.

Disadvantages of corrugated siphons:

  • rapid accumulation of deposits on the inner surface of the pipe;
  • the corrugated pipe loses its strength over time due to hot water - you cannot drain boiling water into a sink with such a siphon.

When choosing a siphon, you should follow some tips:

  1. It is easy enough to find a siphon for a washbasin with a standard shape. It is better to equip exclusive models with a siphon supplied with the sink.
  2. The throughput of the siphon is selected taking into account the water pressure in the pipes and the presence of additional devices connected to the device - the more there are, the wider the outlet section should be. In this situation, you will have to refuse to buy a flat siphon with a small section.
  3. When buying, it is necessary to check the parameters of the sink, bath and sink with the parameters of the siphon. Going to the store, you need to measure in advance: the diameter of the drain / overflow hole and the distance to the sewer pipes.

How to install a siphon in the kitchen: procedure

Preparatory work

After purchasing the siphon, you need to check its completeness - whether all the parts are available. Plastic models are sold in soft packaging, so some items may be scratched or deformed during transportation. There should be no damage or burrs on the threads.

In addition to the siphon itself, for installation you will need:

  • silicone sealant or gasket;
  • insulating tape;
  • flat small screwdriver.

Before installing the siphon on the sink in the bathroom or kitchen, you will need to dismantle the old device:

  1. Place a bucket under the sink.
  2. Remove the broken siphon together with the sewer line.
  3. If the obsolete coupling is unsuitable for further use, then it must be replaced.
  4. Remove dirt from the socket and drain. Plug the sewer pipe with a rag and a bag.

When replacing old cast-iron communications, firmly concreted in cement, some difficulties may arise. The cast iron will have to be knocked out of the cement, but this must be done very carefully so that the debris does not fall into the pipe. Otherwise, the pipeline will be regularly contaminated. Fragments trapped in the pipe must be removed with pliers.

How to install a sink siphon. Step-by-step instruction

If the siphon was sold assembled, then it should be disassembled and checked how well all the parts are fixed and tightened.

Advice. Kitchen siphons must be assembled by hand to avoid damage to the product and to control the clamping force.

Installation sequence:

  1. Mount the rubber strip on the cast iron pipe. Bring the plastic sewer pipe to the desired level (up to 40 cm from the floor) and install a special adapter on it.
  2. Manually connect the pipe under the sink and the main part of the siphon.
  3. With your free hand, insert the mesh with the gasket and the screw into the drain hole, tighten the screw and press completely.
  4. Insert the corrugated pipe into the drain socket and tighten with a wing nut.
  5. Install a corrugated pipe socket in the sewer pipe.
  6. Some instructions recommend connecting additional equipment at this stage. However, it is advisable to first connect the siphon to the sewer and check it. At this time, additional taps are closed with plugs that are supplied with a siphon.
  7. After checking - connect additional equipment. Secure the drain hoses of the dishwasher and waste machine with hose clips.

Advice. It is important to ensure that the drain hose from the siphon is not twisted or kinked anywhere. The water must drain freely.

How to properly install a siphon on a bathtub

Typically, a bathtub has a couple of holes. One is located on the bottom, the other on the front wall. From these features, the design of the bath siphon is determined, consisting of the following parts:

  • plastic tube corrugation;
  • drain bowl;
  • elbow with a branch pipe.

Here is an algorithm for how to install a siphon under the bathroom:

  1. Pre-assemble the siphon and "try on" how it will be located under the bathroom. Before starting work on installing a siphon, it is necessary to consider the placement of pipes, determine the thickness and length of the pipeline.
  2. Install a metal rim in the upper hole on the bathtub (on the front wall). Fix the branch pipe to it.
  3. Using a bolt, attach the drain bowl to the drain hole located in the bottom.
  4. To connect the siphon to the holes, it is necessary to unscrew the metal bolt (located on the bath itself). Then screw the branch pipe with a bolt to the hole.
  5. When the siphon components are assembled, the free end of the corrugation can be connected to the sewer pipe.
  6. Check the joints for leaks - let water into the bath under low pressure. If there is no leak, then gradually increase the head. Look under the bathtub - if there is no water, the siphon is ready for normal use.

Installing a siphon for a washing machine

For washing machines, drain siphons are used. Installation technology depends on the type of construction.

The open siphon is fixed with a fixing bracket:

  1. Mark the place of fasteners on the wall.
  2. Drill holes and screw the siphon to the wall.
  3. Connect the siphon to the tee using a flexible hose.
  4. The final stage is the connection to the washing machine.

Installing a built-in siphon is a more painstaking job. Procedure:

  1. Make a hole in the wall with a puncher.
  2. Secure the sewer and water pipes in the hole with the mounting bracket.
  3. Install the curved siphon.
  4. Connect the siphon to the communications.
  5. Seal the holes with cement mortar, fasten the parts.
  6. Connect the washing machine according to the instructions.
  1. You should start installing the siphon after studying the instructions that come with the kit.
  2. When installing a siphon for an acrylic or metal bath, the drain hole must be sanded with sandpaper - this contributes to a snug fit of the gaskets.
  3. The split-flow siphon requires a rigid fixing to the wall.
  4. Before tightening the siphon, it is necessary to check that the gaskets do not move.
  5. The diameter of the drain line must be at least 5 cm.

Siphon cleaning and repair

If the siphon is clogged and the water does not pass through the drain, then you can try to clean it in one of the following ways:

  1. Pour hot water into the sink / sink to dissolve the grease. The effect will be enhanced if soda is added to the water.
  2. Use household chemicals to flush pipes.
  3. Place the bucket underneath, remove the bottom plug, unscrew and clean the knee by hand.

If the siphon leaks, then it is necessary:

  1. Treat the siphon with grease, sealant. This helps in cases where a leak has occurred at the interface with the sink.
  2. Tighten the plug tightly.
  3. All parts that have been repaired must be cleaned of the old sealant layer and treated with a "fresh" compound.

The durability of the siphon operation largely depends on the quality of the device itself and the accuracy of its installation.

To ensure a quick drainage of dirty water, a special device is mounted under the sink, sink, bathtub and shower - a siphon, which connects the plumbing equipment and the sewerage system. With the right approach, even a non-professional can install a siphon for a sink in the kitchen. Moreover, this does not require a complex tool. In most cases, you can do it yourself with one screwdriver.

It would seem that what can be difficult in the removal of waste liquid? It is enough to connect the outlet pipe to the plumbing fixture and connect it to the sewer compartment. Nevertheless, the siphon not only performs the function of removing dirty water, but also has other purposes.

The special design of the siphon makes it possible to retain large debris, preventing it from entering the sewer pipe and reducing the likelihood of blockages. However, the main function of this device is the formation of a water seal to protect the living space from an unpleasant and unhealthy odor from the sewage system.

It is worth paying attention. For the bathroom, a pipe-shaped appliance with a special S- or U-shaped bend is usually used, in which a water lock is formed. The siphon for a sink in the kitchen has a more complex device, since its task is also the accumulation of garbage with the possibility of subsequent cleaning.

Types of plumbing siphons

Kitchen siphon design

Chromed metal or plastic (polyethylene, propylene, PVC) is usually used as a material for the manufacture of such a device. The metal product, no doubt, looks more solid and attractive. However, over time, metal, even with a galvanized coating, can oxidize. Therefore, for household purposes, it is preferable to use plastic appliances that do not corrode during operation, are easily cleaned of dirt and are more affordable in terms of price.

Kitchen sink traps are designed as follows:

  • Connection to the sink. The nut is used to fix the device to the filter grid of the sink.
  • Overflow connection. In some models, together with an overflow, it is possible to connect a washing machine drain.
  • Siphon reservoir (glass). The main part of the construction. A water seal forms inside the glass, and a removable lid allows you to quickly remove accumulated debris.
  • Discharge pipe.Connects to the sewer pipe to drain dirty water.

Bottle-type device device

Even taking into account the more complex design, compared to the pipe siphon, the bottle siphon is more popular in everyday life, since it takes up less space and is easy to maintain. In addition, if valuable items accidentally fall into the drain, they can be easily reached by unscrewing the bottom cover.

Assembly and installation of the siphon

Almost any owner of the house can install a siphon on a sink. However, despite the relative ease of assembly and installation of the device, this process should be approached responsibly. A negligent approach can lead to undesirable consequences in the form of leaks and the appearance of an unpleasant odor from the drain hole.

Checking components

The main point that should be paid special attention to before assembling a sink siphon is the tightness of all connections. Therefore, the first step is to make sure the quality of the rubber gaskets. If the siphon is sold assembled, you need to disassemble it in the presence of the seller (fortunately, this is easy to do) and make sure that the fasteners are reliable. It is also worth paying attention to the presence of possible defects (chips, cracks, burrs, etc.) that can cause leaks.

It is important to check the contents of the product before purchasing.

Build rules

Usually, the product comes with detailed instructions that allow you to assemble the device without any problems. However, even in its absence, this task is quite feasible. To do this, you must adhere to the following recommendations:

  1. It is better to assemble a siphon for a kitchen sink by hand in order to control the clamping force and not to damage the integrity of the threaded connections.
  1. Before tightening the parts, you need to reinstall the rubber gaskets. For better fixation, a sealant can be used.
  1. The height of the branch pipe that connects the sink and glass is usually adjustable. By changing the position of the gasket, the optimum siphon height can be set.
  1. Tighten the nuts until they stop, but do not overdo it with pressure.
  1. After connecting all the parts, it is necessary to remove excess sealant (if used) and visually check the quality of the assembly.

Sink attachment

If the sink in the kitchen has already been used, then the old siphon must be dismantled before installing a new product. After dismantling, clean the sink surface at the attachment point from dirt and corrosive deposits.

Advice. During the installation work, you will have to open the sewer hole. In order to prevent the spread of an unpleasant odor, the sewer must be closed with a temporary plug, which can be a damp cloth.

Most kitchen sink siphons are sold with a filter grate. In this case, first, the grill is attached to the sink using a fixing bolt, after which a drain device is attached to it.

Filter grid for sink

Sewer connection

In order to properly install the siphon under the sink, it is better to connect the outlet pipe to the main sewer using a corrugated pipe. The flexible bend will allow you to connect to any location of the sewer hole. When connecting a branch with a larger diameter hole, an additional rubber gasket or a special plastic adapter is used. The main requirement is that the drain must have a tight connection with the sewer pipe.

Sewer connection

After completing the installation, you need to open the water tap installed in the sink and check the tightness of all connections. If there are no leaks under the sink at the siphon attachment points, the work can be considered completed.

When choosing a drain device for the kitchen sink, the following points must be considered:

  • Sink hole diameter. This parameter may vary depending on the sink model. Therefore, the filter grille supplied with the siphon must be appropriately sized.
  • Connection of other plumbing equipment. If there is a washing machine or dishwasher next to the sink, which also requires water to be drained into the sewer, you need to take care of the presence of an additional outlet for connecting the drain hose.
  • Dimensions of the device. There must be enough free space under the sink to secure the siphon. In confined spaces, choose a small product.
  • Sewer hole diameter. It is advisable to select a pipe connecting the outlet and the sewer of the appropriate diameter. In extreme cases, it may be smaller (then an adapter will be needed), but in no way larger than the hole.
  • Aesthetic component. If the siphon is closed from outside sight, then it does not matter what it looks like. In an open position, it may be more appropriate to purchase a chrome product. Although in this case you will have to pay more.
  • Price. In fact, the performance of the device does not depend too much on its price. The service life of a metal siphon for a kitchen sink will, of course, be longer than a plastic one. However, the latter is quite capable of serving for several decades. Therefore, the difference in cost is more related to the external component than to the functionality.

Chrome siphons - more attractive but also more expensive

Correct installation of the siphon under the sink is an easy task for a person, even with little experience in plumbing work. However, not everyone has the ability and desire to do this on their own. In this case, it is better to contact professional craftsmen.

Installing a siphon in a kitchen is a very simple task that takes a maximum of 20 minutes and requires nothing more than a screwdriver. Especially if you need to put a new siphon on a new sink that has not yet been installed. But if you need to replace an old device, then the difficulty will consist mainly in dismantling, and not in installation. Therefore, it makes little sense to call a plumber and spend money on it.

Siphons for the kitchen are different - for regular and double sinks, with the ability to connect to a washing machine or dishwasher, with or without overflow, made of metal or plastic, like a bottle or pipe. But they are all installed according to approximately the same principle, so we wrote one step-by-step instruction with an addition - for installing a siphon with an overflow and installing a double siphon for a two-bowl sink.

And, of course, all siphons have one reassignment - not to let gases through, that is, odors from the sewage system with the help of a hydraulic seal formed in the sump, and also to retain food residues, garbage, small objects in it.

In this manual, we will look at how to install a conventional bottle-type plastic siphon, which most often complements the kitchen sink, because it is very easy to clean.

You will need

  1. Screwdriver - for dismantling you need a strong screwdriver of the right size, and when installing a new siphon, you can even get by with a coin, especially if you have purchased a modern siphon model;
  2. A hacksaw, tape measure, sandpaper - sometimes needed to cut pipes or corrugations to the desired size and sand their edges.

Step 1. Dismantling the old siphon

Before installing a new siphon for the kitchen, you need to remove the old one. To do this, take a sturdy screwdriver and unscrew the screw in the center of the grate in the drain hole as shown in the photo on the right. Be sure to place the bowl under the siphon. When the siphon is removed, wipe the drain hole clean.

  • The nut and screw of the drain grate often stick to each other over time, and therefore it is very difficult to unscrew. If you cannot loosen the screw in any way, then you need to disconnect the lower part of the siphon, leaving one pipe, and then try to twist it to help the nut and screw free. Most often, these manipulations are enough.

Step 2. Assembling the siphon

Lay out all the parts in front of you, ungrouping them by type, and then you will see that there are a lot of details only at first glance, but in fact, you can assemble them intuitively, since all gaskets are sized to the corresponding parts of the siphon.

  • Bottle siphon device (without overflow): sealing rings-rings of different diameters, union nuts, a branch pipe, 2 parts of a siphon, a corrugation, as well as a drain grate and a screw;
  • All elements must be tightened tightly, but not too tight, so as not to damage the fragile plastic threads and gaskets.

Here's how to properly assemble a kitchen siphon:

  1. First, we take the largest flat gasket and put it on the largest hole in the siphon, and then screw the cap-cap to it. Now you will see that the siphon has 2 holes of different diameters - on the top and on the side.

  1. Now we take a branch pipe (it will be attached to the sink) and select a cone gasket and a union nut suitable in diameter for it. First slide the union nut onto the socket, then pull the tapered gasket with the blunt end up. We insert the pipe into the upper hole of the siphon and tighten them tightly, but not too tightly.
  • Sometimes a branch pipe with a drain funnel must first be connected into a single whole;
  • Be careful - there must be a nut in this drain funnel of the branch pipe, do not lose it during operation.
  1. It remains to screw the corrugated pipe in the same way: we put a union nut on it, then we pull the conical gasket with the blunt end up, and then we screw the corrugation to the siphon. Well, that's all, the siphon is assembled. We'll need the rest of the details for the next step.

Step 3. Installing the siphon

It's time to install the assembled device:

  • put a grooved sealing ring with strips upwards on the siphon branch pipe, and pull the remaining ring under the metal grill as shown in the photo below;
  • now we substitute the siphon under the sink (under the drain hole), hold and level it, and on top, i.e. already above the sink, put a metal grate;
  • insert the screw into the grille and tighten it with a screwdriver or a coin.

Step 4. We connect the corrugation to the sewer riser

The last step is to simply connect the corrugation to the sewer by extending it to the desired length.

  • Usually, the diameter of the corrugation for sewage is 50 or 40 mm, and the corrugations themselves are often produced in a diameter of 50 mm, which can be cut with a hacksaw to 40 mm if necessary;
  • Instead of a corrugated pipe, it is possible and even desirable to use a rigid branch.

Now we check the siphon for leaks, fill it with water so that a water seal is formed. If it doesn't flow anywhere, then you did everything right.

Supplement - installation of a siphon with overflow

If your sink has an overflow, then the installation of the siphon will be carried out in approximately the same sequence as described above. Except that at the stage of assembling the device (see step # 2), you will need to additionally assemble the overflow itself, as shown in the photo below. The principle of connecting the overflow with the branch pipe bend is exactly the same as in the previous instruction - first we put on the nut, then the annular gasket with the blunt end to the overflow, then insert the overflow into the bend and tighten the nut.

A two-section sink must be equipped with a specially designed double siphon. Such siphons have two branches, which are united by one siphon, which can be either flask-shaped or tubular. They can also have outlets for a washing machine or dishwasher as shown on the left.

Installation is carried out according to the principle described above, with the only difference that first you need to screw two pipes with a drain to two sinks, then under the sinks you need to connect two pipes with a conductor, and then screw the rest of the device to the conductor. If necessary, the pipes must be cut to the desired length with a hacksaw, sanding the edges with sandpaper.

If you look under the kitchen sink, you can see a curved plastic tube that drains dirty water down the drain. This is a siphon - a single pipe with a bend or a system of several pipes, an obligatory plumbing construction. The question arises: what is the need to install a siphon in the kitchen? Why not use a regular straight pipe for draining?

Purpose and standard equipment of the siphon

The main secret of the siphon is in its bend. The water does not completely leave the pipe, but remains in this curved section of the pipe. It turns out to be a kind of permanent sump. Thanks to the water seal, unpleasant odors from the sewer pipe cannot penetrate into the room - bathroom, kitchen, toilet. Thus, a slight bend in the pipe, an elementary structure, protects our apartments from sewer "odors".

Almost all sinks and sinks are equipped with siphons. Therefore, when installing a new sink in your kitchen, you need to provide for the installation of a siphon - a simple procedure that takes a minimum of time. The simplest device is designed for sinks with a single drain hole. This is a siphon with a compact body, the diameter of the nozzle is 32 mm. The product itself and the overflow channel look like a single whole.

The simplest type of sink siphon is the model with one drain hole; and plastic as a material of manufacture is the best option for the kitchen

To get a better idea of how to assemble a sink siphon, consider the standard equipment of the device:

  • product body;
  • plastic outlet pipe;
  • plastic cuffs;
  • tapered rubber cuffs (32 mm);
  • plastic nuts (32 mm);
  • rubber gaskets;
  • rubber stopper;
  • bottom plug;
  • tie screw;
  • decorative cover for sink drain.

The best material for this type of product is plastic (for example, polyethylene or propylene). Its advantages are obvious: it does not lend itself to corrosion and decay, it is durable and resistant to wear. Some people use pipes made of bronze and brass, but they have one drawback: over time, their surface oxidizes and accumulates dirt.

The diagram clearly shows the joints, which are tightly twisted.

Siphon assembly process step by step

With each product in the kit there is an instruction with a diagram containing information on in what sequence and how to assemble a siphon for washing. Even for a beginner, the assembly will not cause difficulty, however, in order to prevent further leaks, some nuances should be taken into account:

  • The main thing in the installation process is compliance with the tightness of all connections. It is necessary to start by checking the bottom plug, since it is she who experiences constant drain pressure. Even at the time of purchase, it is worth checking the product for defects, paying special attention to the integrity of the thread. There should be no chips, burrs, sharp protruding and catching elements that can damage the gasket.
  • When installing the bottom plug and other connections, the gaskets must be secured. To do this, they are coated and fixed with a sealant. Twisting is carried out until it stops, without strong pressure. From the siphon to the sewer, either a solid assembly or a corrugated tube ending in rigid pipes leads. The standard diameter of the nozzles is 32 mm, 40 mm, 50 mm, although there are also universal options with a set of nozzles.
  • It should be remembered that two spacers are used for the joint in the area of the decorative strip. The black one is intended for the upper part of the branch pipe, and the white, thinner one, is placed under the cover plate.
  • After installing the outlet, tighten the fixing screw and dispose of excess sealant. A plastic nut is pushed onto the outlet, then a conical rubber band. With the help of the outlet of the branch pipe, the height to which the siphon is installed is adjusted.

An example of installation work on the video:

Construction installation technology

Putting on a nut and elastic band, install the product. First of all, fix the outlet in the sewer system by attaching it at the required angle. Then the assembled siphon is connected using a rigid system or a corrugated pipe. At this stage, you need to ensure that the assembly sections do not sag, and for this, each section of the assembled structure must have a minimum length.

The video shows the process of installing the sink in the bathroom, where the installation of the siphon on the sink is clearly visible. It is easy to notice the peculiarities of fixing the metal siphon.

Mounting with adapter sleeve

Sometimes the design and location of the sink require the use of a large siphon equipped with an adapter - a rubber cuff. It is necessary to connect a 32 mm diameter branch pipe to the sewer pipe with a transition to 40 mm. Only one collar is mounted: either under the drain hole, or transitional. You should not install it just so that there are no unnecessary details left: the instructions will tell you how to install a siphon in the kitchen without problems.

Suppose the sink in the kitchen has only an outlet, which means that the siphon is attached to the thread only with an O-ring. It is imperative that the diameters of the siphon and the outlet match each other. Sometimes replacement of the gasket is required. No sealant is needed in this case.

Sometimes the bathroom interior requires the use of a chrome-plated metal siphon

After installing the product and checking the connections, you can turn on the water and check the tightness. If there are no leaks, and water flows freely into the sewer pipe, the siphon is installed correctly.
