New Year's crafts from polyurethane foam. DIY foam figures: foam crafts

Crafts from polyurethane foam can be made by hand in just a few hours.

If you have a disposable balloon that hasn't run out yet, why not use it for the good of your landscaping.

In this case, it is still better to resort to professional foam, and not household foam, since a small pistol with a diameter of 2 mm is added to it.

Unusually simple and beautiful figures made of polyurethane foam will become the property of your site. They will not leave indifferent either neighbors or just people passing by.

Materials for counterfeiting from polyurethane foam

You will need:

  • gloves;
  • sprayer with prepared water;
  • polyethylene;
  • aviation kerosene.

Kerosene is needed so that, upon completion of work with the foam, hands can be easily washed from the building material.

Something will also come in handy for creating a basis for crafts from polyurethane foam with your own hands.

You can take an ordinary plastic bottle, an old saucepan, or something else, which is not a pity.

With the foam covering the auxiliary material, the creation of the craft will begin ...

They need to be painted carefully, and before carrying out this procedure
dry thoroughly in the shade. It takes at least a week to dry, but if the foam layer is large, it is better to wait longer.

The paint is applied to the craft from polyurethane foam with your own hands every spring again. If you don't do this, the foam can crack and spoil the craft.

Foam Crafts Ideas

If you have a small body of water on your property, you can make a large green toad. This is especially true where there are many plants, especially large-leaved ones. In some cases, it is easier to make a lizard or a crocodile - whoever succeeds.

In order not to miscalculate with the size and "fill your hand", you can practice on plasticine. No matter how strange it sounds, it is after testing on this simple material that it turns out to make chic crafts from polyurethane foam.

The same applies to the dough - if you like to bake delicious buns, drink the animals - this will help you figure out what you can do best.

An excellent solution is to make turtles from polyurethane foam. And it is not at all necessary to have a reservoir on the site. In addition, almost everyone has white paint, and now it costs less than colored ones.

Turtles are easier to paint, their shells can be alternated with natural ones. If, during the creation of the craft, bumps appear, which should not be, they can be cut off with a sharp knife.

The situation is similar with rounded details - if they need to be sharpened, the excess is simply cut off.

Crafts made from polyurethane foam not only decorate street views, they can also be made for the home. Funny frogs will make people passing by smile!

So, as an original New Year's decor, you can make a snowman from foam, but you need to start creating in advance, so that the material has time to dry thoroughly.

If you paint over the foam ahead of time, it will quickly crack.

Celebrating the New Year is not complete without Santa Claus. Santa Claus possesses persistent attributes: a bright fur coat and hat (red or blue) trimmed with white fur or cotton wool (as if with snow), a red nose, a white beard, a staff, and of course, a magic bag with gifts. All children believe in Santa Claus. Adults are also happy about his arrival. After all, I really want to take part in a real fairy tale at least once a year!
Target: create Santa Claus from polyurethane foam.
Tasks:
Get to know the new material - polyurethane foam
Develop fantasy
And even though we are already adults, we will nevertheless make Santa Claus - suddenly he will fulfill our cherished desire ...
Our Grandfather will perfectly fit into the New Year's interior. You can give it to friends or put it near your Christmas tree. After all, hand-made things are highly valued in the modern world: it is thanks to them that our house becomes unlike others, is filled with comfort and warmth. I wanted to try working with something new. And I decided to take polyurethane foam. Here's what happened ...
The first step was to make the base for our Grandfather. Unfortunately, I did not photograph the beginning of work, but I will try to explain it clearly.
I took a simple plastic bottle and poured some earth into it for stability. Then, the stick was inserted into the bottle and fixed with tape. If you want your Santa Claus to be smaller, then a stick is not necessary. I got it 60 cm. In order not to waste a lot of foam, you need to wrap the bottle with newspapers. Let's start working with foam. It is imperative to wear rubber gloves, as the foam is very sticky and does not wash off the skin well. We begin to give shape to our fairytale hero. For the collar, I used cardboard, which I also foamed. Remember that the foam grows in size as it dries, so don't suck too much of it! With a stationery knife, I carefully cut out the face and cut off unnecessary places.

We got Santa Claus with holes, so we begin to plaster our Grandfather. I covered up the holes, leveled the surface.

We process irregularities, roughness with emery paper and start painting. Any paint can be used. I still had some radiator paint. So I took it.

We form a beard, mustache, eyebrows from cotton wool.

We glue the eyes, paint the face with pink paint.

We glue the tinsel

Can be varnished. Our Grandfather Frost is ready to make wishes come true!

I found an interesting site where people post their creative work. What is there just not. And food and decorations and furniture. But before you find anything worthwhile, you have to dig. And the site is in English. NV on the eve of the New Year found on
Here's instructions on how to create a snowman to decorate your yard for Christmas. It is not simple, not made of snow, but all-season.
Here is my free translation of a snowman making workshop. Site .
I've only seen snow a few times in my life. This is because I live in Florida and everyone who has ever been here knows that we don't have much of it. Or not at all. This means that I have never taken part in such children's activities as sleigh rides, snowball fights and making a snowman. (Although I recently skated!).
This year I decided to make a melting snowman for the front yard - Christmas decor.
I needed to find some material suitable for open areas, so I immediately rejected the idea of a papier-mâché snowman. (Although if you want to make a Christmas decoration for a room, then this method is cheaper.

I used the following materials to make the snowman, although you can replace or exclude something. Everything I bought was purchased from Walmart and Dollar tree.

3 balls of different sizes (large, medium, and small)
-Paint-Spray (I used blue, orange, and white),
-Shine
-Black buttons / pebbles (I used those sold in florist shops for decoration),
- Expanding polyurethane foam
- Cone (for carrots) (Used for flower arrangements)
- Red ribbon
- Two branches for hands
- Hat (carnival)

The first step is collecting the base. If you don't want to spend eternity scrubbing foam off your garage floor, I suggest placing a large piece of cardboard on the floor. Also keep in mind that the foam cannot be wiped off the clothes, so wear what you don't mind ruining.
Start with a large sword - place it on the cardboard. It will stay in place if you attach it to the cardboard with double-sided tape. Make the base of your snowman with some foam. It is easier to work by starting making a snowman from the base.
You don't have to perfect everything all at once. You can go back to the first layer after the foam is dry. After all, it expands when it dries and the appearance of the snowman can change. After you have solidified the first ball. you can move on to the other two.
Load the other two onto the first ball and tape them together to prevent them from moving.
Staple the joints of the balls. After the foam has dried, you can remove the tape. Or use double-sided tape.

After the base has dried, you can proceed with further actions. Add some foam to the balls to create a melting snowman effect. Attach your arms. To do this, attach them with tape to the balls, and foam them on top so that the tape from the tape is not visible.
If you want to smooth out the foam a little, use a spatula.

And now for the funniest part of the project! It's time to paint the snowman! Start creating. There are no clear instructions for painting with spray paint. But I can give you some tips for achieving the best result.
* Start first with a dark paint, and then move on to a light one.
The desired white color will be quite difficult to achieve if it is covered with dark paint in places on top. Therefore, you first need to cover the entire surface with dark paint, in my case it was blue. Do not let the yellow foam appear.
* Lighten the desired areas with lighter paint.
You need to cover with white paint the places that you want to be light in your mind.
I also added some shine. It's Christmas! Everything should glow!
I also wanted to attach a flashing LED display with a Happy New Year wish to the snowman, but I never figured out how to do this without piercing the balls.

Nose
It's just a piece of the cone colored orange. I used a cool pistol to attach it to the ball.
The buttons / eyes / mouth are just black pebbles that fit the shape.
They are sold in florist shops.
Instead of pebbles for the mouth, I would use a twig. It would be more elegant.
We put a hat with a red ribbon or a bucket on the snowman and the snowman is ready.

.

New Year is just around the corner and, therefore, it is time to prepare New Year's gifts and decorations. Who is the main character on New Year's Eve?

That's right, even children know this. This is Santa Claus! And so I decided to make a figurine of Santa Claus for a child in the garden, so that it would stand on the street, on the playground. I'll tell you right away that I made this sculpture last year and it has already successfully passed the test in winter, frost and children, and this year it will again delight us with its presence :)
From what I would make the figure of Santa Claus, I knew right away: from polyurethane foam. Firstly, it is quite budgetary (taking into account the size of Frost - 115 cm), secondly, quite quickly, since the foam dries for 15-20 minutes and the next layer can be applied, thirdly, products made of polyurethane foam are lightweight and are not afraid of any weather conditions, with one caveat - the foam must be well insulated from sunlight and moisture. Under the influence of direct sunlight, the foam turns yellow and collapses, and if water gets inside the figurine, it will crystallize in the frost and the figurine may "break". How to avoid all this and make a figurine that will last more than one year, I will tell you below, in my master class.
So, be patient and use a vacuum cleaner, as the job is quite dirty and dusty.
First, I found on the Internet a picture of Frost, which we are going to make. We need a general view, we will make our own details.

As a basis, I took a plastic bottle, which was available, poured sand with stones inside for stability (in fact, this could not have been done, it is already wonderfully worth it) and inserted a wooden stick from a children's shovel on top.
The result is the frame of the future figurine.

Then we take the newspapers and begin to add volume to our blank. We fix newspapers with paper tape.

When we collect the required volume with a newspaper, we glue the entire blank with Kraft paper on top: it will be easier to apply foam later.
When everything dries up, we take foam and continue to add volume to our Grandfather. When working with foam, I advise you to use gloves, since foam is very difficult to wash from the skin, and from clothes it is not washed at all. The floor must also be covered with newspapers or plastic.
When working with foam, I use a special gun (pictured), which allows you to regulate the flow of foam and reduce its consumption. Apply thin layers of foam: this way they dry out faster and you can apply the next layer.

We continue to apply the foam layer by layer. Try to keep as few gaps and voids as possible. If you apply a lot of foam at once, then it increases greatly in volume, it becomes empty inside. And when we then cut off the excess foam, we will have to fill these holes with fresh foam.
At the bottom of the sculpture, we glue cardboard and also foam it. Unfortunately, I did not capture this moment, but I think that everything is clear anyway. If you do not understand, ask, I will answer with pleasure.

Having typed the required volume on our Frost, we begin to move on to the details. We outline the face, very roughly, the place of the hat and begin to make the collar of the fur coat. To do this, we take thick cardboard or, as in my case, a calendar cover, and fix it in place with masking tape. After that, we begin to apply foam to the cardboard collar.

When all parts of the figure are completely filled and resemble Santa Claus a little, we take a breadboard or construction knife and begin to cut off all unnecessary. Knife blades must be sharp to make even cuts. The foam dulls them very quickly and therefore they need to be changed quite often. If suddenly we cut off too much or did not like something, you can always increase the volume again and cut off the excess again. This job is not very fast, but very creative.

We are gradually moving from the general to the particular. We draw the details, pay special attention to the face of Santa Claus, his beard. Fill large cavities with foam.

When the result suits you, you can sand the sculpture of Frost a little: the foam is perfectly skinned.
Then we apply an acrylic filler. You can apply with a brush, but I applied directly with my hands: it turns out that way much faster. We applied one layer - dried it, sanded it a little and apply a second layer. It’s hard to close all the holes in the foam the first time. It is very important to isolate the foam well from direct exposure to light and water, as I said above.
Skinning the second layer more thoroughly. You won't be able to achieve perfect smoothness anyway, and we don't need to. After painting, irregularities on the fur coat and hat look like astrakhan fur. The face should be given more attention: more thoroughly fill in all the irregularities with putty and sand it well. Draw hairs and strands on the beard and mustache with a toothpick.

It's time to paint. First, I painted all of Santa Claus with white acrylic paint. Then I sealed the places that should remain white with masking tape. For dyeing a fur coat and a hat, I used auto enamel in a spray can. I didn't really like it: a rather strong smell that takes a long time to disappear and plus it dries for a long time. Longer than just acrylic spray paint. I usually paint with Bosco paint, which I like best.
One cylinder of car enamel was enough for me to cover 2 times.
The only plus of this paint: deep red-cherry color. Another important point: she did not fit well on white acrylic paint and went with craquelure. Of course, it turned out original in the end, but unplanned. This has never happened with Bosco.

Here is such a beautiful craquelure.

This is what Frost looks like after painting.

Now it needs to be embellished a little. We take a white varnish marker, you can use acrylic paint and a thin brush, you can use contours, and we begin to apply patterns on Frost's fur coat.

Then I began to paint my face. First I mixed umber + pink + ivory and applied it all over my face. I covered the mustache, beard and edging on the hat and fur coat with a mother-of-pearl silver color: it turned out to be real frost. Unfortunately, the photograph does not convey this. Then on the beard and mustache, I applied a little black acrylic, thinned to the state of water. I wiped off the excess with a dry napkin.

Then I drew the eyes and applied a blush to the cheeks. True, I got carried away again and did not photograph the intermediate stages of the work.
When everything was dry, I covered it in several layers with an aerosol acrylic varnish, paying special attention to the lower part.

The grandfather turned out to be quite weighty and stable and I had to take him to the garden by car :) The children were happy!

This year I plan to make a figurine of a deer and a sleigh so that grandfather can safely travel and deliver gifts to children.

Dacha is a place where we relax and enjoy life. But decorations for the garden and the yard cost a lot of money. Therefore, some owners make crafts from polyurethane foam, which are in no way inferior to expensive figures made of plastic, metal and wood.

In order to decorate your personal plot, you do not need to finish art courses and have "golden hands". A small set of tools, a little diligence and abstract thinking will allow you to acquire gnomes, frogs, sheep and Christmas trees from quite affordable material.

Do-it-yourself technology for making figures from construction foam

First of all, you need to stock up on the necessary materials and tools. This will determine how well and quickly the manufacturing process will go:

  • For the frame of the product, plastic bottles filled with sand, boards, metal objects and thick wire are suitable. Even an ordinary brick can become the foundation for a future mushroom on your site!
  • Polyurethane foam.
  • Polyurethane foam gun.
  • Gun cleaner.
  • If you plan to grow flowers in a sculpture, then in the center of it you need to mount some kind of container such as a bucket, a tin can or the same plastic bottle.
  • Varnish, paint and brushes for them.
  • Stationery or other knife.

The very process of creating garden figures consists of two processes replacing each other. First, apply the foam to the base and let it harden a little. Then we apply again and so on until it approaches the shape we need.

After that, with an ordinary clerical knife, excess protrusions are removed, the sculpture acquires complete outlines and you can cover it with paint. The entire work can take from an hour to several days, depending on the size of the figurine and the thickness of the applied layer. All this should be done in a separate dry room, where there is no excess dust and children do not run.... Otherwise, you will have to wash off with gasoline or acetone an extremely sticky substance, which is polyurethane foam.

Sculptures and garden products

Below are a few examples of different figures that even a beginner can create on their site. The main thing is to strictly follow the sequence of all operations. And in a few hours you will definitely feel like a real creator, from under whose hands an excellent decoration for a summer cottage comes out!

Christmas tree

Making a Christmas tree from polyurethane foam is as easy as shelling pears. To do this, you need to collect twigs and attach them to an iron pipe. This can be done with tape or wire.

After that, it is necessary to wet the workpiece from the spray bottle so that the foam “sticks” to the base more firmly.

Green acrylic paint is perfect for creating a New Year's mood using such simple things as stick scraps, twigs, foam and fishing line.

You will find all the information about the tracks made of corks from plastic bottles.

Ball

The ball is the easiest shape to make. It is recommended to start your creative experiments with it, and only after that move on to more complex decorations and sculptures.

  1. We take a paint can and fill it with sand;
  2. Layer by layer, apply polyurethane foam;
  3. Upon reaching the required size and more or less spherical shape, remove the excess parts with a knife;
  4. We cover with the product with varnish;
  5. We choose paint for our decoration, depending on our preferences;
  6. If it is a bun or the head of some animal, we make eyes, a nose and a mustache from buttons, fishing line and wire.

It is possible that the material about.

Ram and lamb

Making a ram and a lamb:

  1. First, we make a frame. We take several plastic bottles and fasten them with tape. The result will be something like a "skeleton" of an animal. The lower "limbs" can be filled with sand to make the figurine more stable.
  2. Then you can already apply the foam. But to save it, it is better to wrap the frame with isolon or other polymer material. The first layer of polyurethane foam - you already have an approximate idea of what will happen in the end!
  3. We make the ears from pieces of leather. You can also make them from plastic bottles by preheating and bending them.
  4. We process the muzzle with a knife, carefully giving it the necessary features.
  5. We cover the product with varnish.
  6. Paint the eyes, mouth and other "features" of our sheep or lamb!

Sheep making scheme.

Goat

Step by step how to make a goat:

  1. We make a frame of thick wire, which we wrap around several plastic bottles.
  2. It is better to take metal pipes as a framework for the legs (bones). They can be welded to a plinth, dug into the ground, or bolted into place. Your figurine must withstand wind and rain, so take the time to secure the base securely.
  3. Apply one or two layers of polyurethane foam.
  4. We make horns and a tail from wooden sticks or plastic cuts and fix them.
  5. After applying the last layer, cut off all unnecessary and wrap the product with a serpentine or fishing line.
  6. We cover the surface with a primer and paint. You can choose any color, because it is completely your creation!
  7. Making eyes out of buttons.
  8. We place our goat next to a pond, in a clearing, in the company of other decorations, etc.

In total, this sculpture will take from one to two weeks to make, as each layer of foam must harden. As a result, from unnecessary pipes, plastic bottles, wire scraps, other "garbage" and several cylinders of polyurethane foam, you get an excellent decoration for your summer cottage!

What is the plastic border for the tracks will tell you.

Crafts for the New Year

Even without having at hand anything but wire and a can of polyurethane foam, you can create an excellent decor for the New Year. Various ornaments, Christmas tree decorations, simple and complex figures - all this is affordable and simple!

For example, you can make a snowflake. We take a wire of such thickness that it can be bent without effort. We make the frame of the future snowflake out of it. Gently apply one or two layers of foam. Until it hardens, we achieve even and smooth surfaces. If something goes wrong, you can always add some foam and cut off the overhangs with a regular utility knife.

The Christmas ball is made even easier. The tennis ball is covered with a layer of foam... After hardening, we apply a layer of paint and paint our New Year's toy in bright and positive colors!

A simplified version of the Christmas tree is made using cardboard or isolon, wound on a rigid base in the form of a cone. Even a child can apply several layers! We level the surface, paint and place it in a prominent place.

How to make a swan out of a tire is outlined.

Basic rules for working with polyurethane foam

  • Shake the container periodically.
  • The ideal temperature for work is at room temperature.
  • Polyurethane foam does not like direct sunlight. Therefore, it is necessary to work in the shade, and paint the finished product.
  • The curing time of the foam varies depending on the manufacturer, temperature and speed of work.

Important points

  • The paint with which the finished product is coated should not contain nitrocellulose. Otherwise, the polyurethane foam will soften and the decoration will lose its shape.
  • Gloves are a must. Without them, washing your hands will take much longer than the process of making the craft itself.
  • Polyurethane foam is a very light material. Therefore, it is necessary to place heavy objects inside any product made of it. This can be a jar of sand, a plastic bottle filled with water, an iron base, wire-bound metal pipes, and other massive items.

Conclusion

You can add beauty and originality to your summer cottage without spending a lot of money on it. Crafts made from polyurethane foam are easy to manufacture, non-toxic and can have a variety of shapes. Starting from a simple ball and ending with the figures of animals, birds, gnomes and even people!
