How to fertilize strawberries in spring, summer and autumn. How to feed strawberries during flowering and fruiting How to fertilize strawberries in spring for a better crop

Horticultural crops give a high-quality crop only subject to the requirements of agricultural technology. Fragrant strawberries are no exception, and require competent action on the part of the gardener. The responsiveness of strawberries to care is high, but in order to enjoy plenty of delicious berries, you need to make an effort. One of the important points of berry care is timely spring top dressing.

Season preparation

In the spring, the schedule and composition of strawberry nutrition varies depending on the age of the bushes. Plants of the first year of life provide nutrition during planting. If the culture is planned to be planted in early spring, then the soil is prepared in the fall. But, when it is not possible to fertilize the ridges in the fall, this event is transferred to early spring and combined with planting seedlings.

During the spring planting of strawberries, organic matter is added to the garden - humus, rotted manure or ready-made compost. Enough 7 kg of substance per 1 square. m square. Fertilizer is laid out on the surface of the earth and deeply dug. Such nutritious top dressing of the soil is done no later than 7 days before the planting of strawberry seedlings.

The second option for preparing ridges for planting is more economical in terms of time and fertilizer. On the ridges along future rows, they dig holes and make the necessary top dressing in them. Norms of components:

  • compost or humus - 1 bucket;
  • potassium salt - 20 g;
  • urea - 25 g;
  • superphosphate simple - 40 g.

The substances are mixed immediately in the recesses or in a separate place, and then introduced with the mixture. The grooves are abundantly shed with water, at least one bucket per square meter. square meter.

If strawberry bushes were planted last season, then after the snow melts, the beds are completely cleared of debris, winter shelter, and the remaining foliage. Dry leaves and mustaches are cut from plants, dead bushes are removed. Gently loosen the soil and mulch strawberries with humus.

Until the leaves have blossomed, you need to carry out the first top dressing.

What to use?

Plants are attacked by pests and fungal infections during the growing season, so it is more rational to combine top dressing with protective spraying.

To feed strawberries, organic substances, mineral additives and trace elements are used.

The listed components are needed by strawberries in a certain period of development, so we will dwell on the significance of each of them.

Organic

  1. Avian or horse manure. Apply manure only rotted. The fresh substance contains pathogenic microorganisms that can cause strawberry diseases and weed seeds.
  2. Humus. Fully decomposed manure in which nutrients are contained in the most digestible form for strawberries.
  3. Compost. A mixture of organic matter, soil and various garden residues. It is used in a mature finished form.
  4. Bird droppings (chicken). Fertilize strawberries with a weak litter solution. Otherwise, the caustic substance can burn plants. An important source of nitrogen for strawberries.
  5. Wood ash. Supplier of potassium and phosphorus for strawberries.

When calculating the need for organic substances, fertility and soil composition are taken into account.

Mineral

Mineral components are used more often due to their availability.

Nitrogen.  The element is necessary for all garden plants and is responsible for the condition of the aboveground green part of the bush. However, it is recommended to feed strawberries with nitrogen, taking into account the growing season, and strictly observing the dosage. Most often, urea or ammonium nitrate is used in the plots. To prepare top dressing, take 10 liters of pure water, in which 1 tbsp. urea spoon. The composition is introduced in the spring after cleaning and loosening the ridges in the amount of 0.5 l under one root.

At air temperatures below 16 ° C, it is impractical to make nitrogen feeding.

Phosphorus.  Without phosphorus, it is difficult for the bushes to absorb nitrogen. The second value of the element is participation in the development of the root system. Therefore, phosphorus is necessary for seedlings during the rooting period. For phosphorus nutrition, strawberries use simple or double superphosphate and ammophos. These substances easily pass into a soluble form. For 1 square. m area usually contribute 30 g of superphosphate a week before planting seedlings.

Potassium.  Increases the resistance of berry culture to frost, heat, temperature changes and pests. For strawberry bushes, potassium nitrate, kalimagnesia and potassium sulfate are suitable. Try to avoid potassium chloride, because the culture reacts negatively to the chlorine content in the feed.

To achieve the maximum effect from nutritional compositions, it is necessary to correctly distribute the fertilizing during the growing season of strawberries.

Feeding process

The schedule and composition of the food varies depending on the age of the bushes. Plants of the first year of life provide food when planting, in the 2nd and 4th year alternate organic and mineral components, but strawberries of the 3rd year of life are recommended to be fed only with mineral compounds.

When landing

Proper feeding during planting increases the yield by 30-35% of the usual indicators.

Before planting seedlings, ridges are prepared - they are cleaned of weeds, debris, loosen and level.

Prepared wells are filled with a nutrient mixture, which is prepared according to one of the proposed options. Mix:

  • one bucket of turf land, rotted manure or compost with two glasses of wood sol;
  • a compost bucket with mineral components - potassium salt and urea (25 g each), superphosphate 40 g;
  • a humus bucket with 1 cup of wood ash and 30 g of superphosphate.

At the end, ridges are shed with water.

After landing

Planted bushes on fertilized soil in the first year of life is not necessary to additionally feed. Plants have enough of the stock of nutrients that are introduced before planting. The next full feeding is done in the fall. For this:

  • add potassium humate to the soil; superphosphate can be added;
  • watering the aisles with infusion of chicken manure, diluted with water in a ratio of 1:10;
  • ridge mulch with peat, straw, hay.

By spring, nutrients will move to a form that is digestible for plants.

For adult strawberries

As soon as the snow falls on the site, you need to carry out the first feeding until the leaves have blossomed. Usually this event is combined with spring pruning. Bushes need to gain mass, so the first element for spring nutrition is nitrogen:

  1. In a container with 10 liters of water, add 2 cups of mature mullein or compost, 1 tablespoon of ammonium sulfate. Stir thoroughly and water the bushes, spending 1 liter of solution for each.
  2. Replace the mineral components with 1 tablespoon nitroammophoski, and leave the water volume the same. For one plant, 0.5 l of solution is enough.
  3. From organic compounds use infusion of chicken manure or mullein. The proportion of organic matter and water is maintained in a ratio of 1:10, insist 4 days, then watered bushes of 0.5 liters of infusion.

At the time of feeding, avoid getting the solution on the green parts of the plant. Water the beds around the plants.

Before and during flowering

During the flowering period of strawberries, the plant needs potassium. For convenient absorption of the element by the roots, gardeners use mineral fertilizer compositions. For example, potassium nitrate (1 teaspoon per bucket of clean water). A good alternative to chemical complexes is folk recipes with wood ash or humus. Ash is used in dry form - pollinate plants and make in the aisles. Or prepare an infusion (1:10) and pour strawberries.

Foliar top dressing

With foliar spraying, the aerial part of the plant is irrigated with the composition. Nutrients are best absorbed by the bottom of the leaf blades. This must be taken into account when spraying. Foliar treatments are indicated at the time of mass flowering of strawberries. For high-quality spraying of the solution, it is good to use a garden sprayer.

Usually, ready-made fertilizer solutions for garden strawberries are used. For them, you can add for one procedure, 2 g of potassium sulfate and potassium permanganate and 1 g of boric acid.

Repair Strawberry

The feeding schedule for the repairing varieties of strawberries at the beginning of the growing season fully coincides with the nutrition of ordinary varieties. The only important difference is the mandatory feeding after fruiting. Indeed, the repairing varieties yield crops more than once per season, and in the autumn they lay fruit buds. During this period, nitrogen fertilizers are not applied, so as not to stimulate the growth of shoots. Plants need potassium supplements. Therefore, potassium nitrate or potassium sulfate is used for autumn feeding. Of folk remedies, the best option is considered to be an infusion of wood ash or dry application of ash powder in the root zone.

Folk wisdom advises the use of environmental solutions.

  1. Well nourishes strawberries with nitrogen herbal infusion. Nettles are tightly packed in a bucket and poured with warm water. Insist for at least 3 days, then apply in accordance with the type of top dressing. Root top dressing is carried out with diluted water infusion 1:10. For foliar spraying, the infusion is first filtered and then diluted with water 1:20. Filtering allows the use of a spray gun and saves leaflets from burns.
  2. Baking yeast in an amount of 1 kg is diluted in 10 liters of pure water, insisted during the day. Then add up to 20 liters of water and feed bushes of 0.5 liters for one.

In addition to the listed compounds, micronutrient fertilizers are used to feed garden strawberry bushes. They contain elements important for the plant - boron, magnesium, calcium, manganese and iodine. Apply such compositions for spraying to make the elements more accessible to plants. The dose is maintained according to the manufacturer's recommendation.

Conclusion

Feeding strawberries has its own rules. The main thing is reasonable expediency. It involves the preparation of quality compounds and the absence of excessive zeal. Do not increase the number of fertilizers or dosage. This will negatively affect the state of strawberries and productivity.

Everyone wants to enjoy juicy and tasty strawberries. But for this you need to take care of the plant's health in advance. So, what to feed strawberries in the spring for a good crop without chemistry?

Our article will highlight certain moments from the life of the gardener, which will help to grow a juicy and fragrant berry in his area.

The need for an additional source of nutrients for the berry is very high. This may be due to the properties of the soil: it may be depleted or there is a lack of any compounds. For a rich harvest, feeding strawberries from the outside will not be superfluous.

Fertilizer for strawberries can be organic and mineral:

  • Organic These include manure, litter, peat, straw, silt, industrial and household waste. It contains a huge amount of substances that contribute to better plant growth. This may be nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, potassium and much more. Organics has animal and plant origin. Upon decomposition, minerals and carbon dioxide are formed, which is used for photosynthesis.
  • Inorganic or mineral. Nutrients are in the form of various salts. Such top dressing can be simple, for example, nitrogen, phosphorus when one element is included. And complex when it contains several nutrients.

Having at least a distant idea of \u200b\u200bthe composition of the soil on which strawberry is planned to grow, you can make the necessary fertilizers and thereby increase the yield of Victoria.

How to and when to fertilize to increase yield

Strawberries need to be fed only three times a season. Fertilization time depends on the development of the bush:

  • The first top dressing is introduced after the end of winter.
  • Second, strawberries are needed after the crop has been harvested. Then, the berry will replenish the supply of nutrients.
  • The final stage. Fertilize around mid-September.

Important: the first feed is very significant for the berry. Fertilizing in early spring, before flowering, will increase resistance to disease.

If strawberries have been growing on the site for many years, then it needs to be fed more than the younger counterpart. This is due to soil properties, which deteriorate over time and lose nutrient components.

You do not need to go far to feed and spend your savings on this. everything you need can be at home at hand. It is possible to saturate the soil with nutrients without chemistry.

1 kg must be diluted in 5 liters of water. Then dilute 0.5 liters in 10 liters again. After that, you can already water the strawberries. If you prepare a solution of packaged yeast, which is usually sold in stores, the packaging is diluted in a bucket of water. Next, you need to add 2 tbsp. l sugar and let stand for 2 hours.

Feeding with yeast will saturate strawberries with many nutrients, activates plant growth. And also the introduction of such a solution will extend the period of fruiting, strengthen the roots. Moreover, yeast provokes the development of beneficial soil microflora.

This medication is very popular not only for treatment, but also for top dressing. A solution is watered with strawberry bushes in early spring. This will greatly stimulate plant growth. Moreover, they can not only water, but also process leaves and shoots.

To irrigate the soil, make a solution at the rate of 15 drops of iodine per 10 liters of water. It is also recommended to water the soil before planting the berries. For external processing of flowering Victoria, the solution needs less concentrated, so as not to burn the leaves. It is prepared as follows: 10 drops of iodine are added to 10 liters of water.

Due to the antiseptic properties of the drug, iodine supplementation will be a good prevention of a number of diseases: gray rot and powdery mildew.

This component contains a large number of trace elements important for the growth of strawberries. Fertilizer can be made by yourself, just burn the old branches and that’s it. It is important not to use painted wood for these purposes.

Feeding with ash will improve the nutritional properties of the soil, saturate it with all the main trace elements. Also, the yield of berries and their taste qualities will increase.

Important: can not be combined with manure, urea and nitrate. So, ash will lose everything and its useful qualities.

Such top dressing activates the work of soil microorganisms and is considered the most effective of other brethren. It is recommended to feed strawberries from April to mid-May, after the earth has warmed up well. Such fertilizer will improve the properties of the soil, enrich its composition in many components. It will also increase the fruitfulness of the strawberries themselves.

Important: chicken manure is needed every 2-3 years. And it is also desirable to observe the proportions of the solution, since an excess of the component will dry the strawberries.

First you need to fill the litter with water, and then dilute half a liter in a bucket of water: this will turn out the most suitable mixture. Next, you need to water, stepping back from the bush 5-10 cm.

This method is suitable for strawberries grown for sale in large quantities. She will help her recover after winter, saturate her with useful components and protect the berry from diseases and pests. In addition, the consumption of this product is very small.

Important: keep proportions, as you can just burn the bush.

To get a good crop, you need to slightly acidify the soil. The prepared solution is introduced into the ground at a distance of about 10 cm from the plant. Dilute it with water, in a ratio of about 1: 2. they feed 3 times: before the season, after harvesting and in mid-September.

Such a fertilizer will saturate the soil with all the main nutrient components, accelerate the ripening of fruits, and increase the plant's immunity to diseases.

At the beginning of the summer season, in the spring, as soon as the snow melts, strawberry bushes are fed for the first time. In this case, top dressing should stimulate the growth of young leaves and shoots, and therefore contain nitrogen. We will tell in the article why strawberry top dressing in the spring is important, how to carry it out in various ways.

Features of spring strawberry dressing

In the first year of cultivation, strawberries can not be fed - it will be enough for those fertilizers that were applied during planting. In subsequent seasons, the culture needs to be fed in a timely manner. What and when? It depends on the age of the strawberries. In the second and fourth years it should be mineral and organic fertilizers; on the third - only mineral.

Tip # 1. Fertilizers must be applied directly under the bushes, dug in with two centimeters of soil, and in row-spacings to a depth of 8-10 centimeters. Then carefully water the bushes.

You can also carry out three foliar top dressing:

  1. According to the young leaves.
  2. During flowering.
  3. By ovary.

What are the benefits of yeast strawberry top dressing

Spring dressing should not be neglected

More recently, it became known that yeast perfectly fertilizes all types of plants. They contain ¾ water and ¼ dry matter. In addition, they contain proteins, carbohydrates, fats, nitrogen, potassium and phosphoric acid. Amino acids are present in proteins, saturated and polyunsaturated acids in fats.

Strawberry fed with yeast receives the cytokinin, auxin, thiamine, and group B vitamins so necessary for it.  In addition, this berry is enriched with all macro- and microelements - copper, calcium, iodine, phosphorus, potassium, iron, zinc, therefore it develops well and bears fruit.

You can feed strawberries with yeast twice a season. One 5-liter bucket is enough for 10 bushes. A pack of yeast weighing 1 kilogram is diluted with 5 liters of water. Under the bush, pour 0.5 liters of the mixture. From dry yeast, top dressing is done as follows: 1 pack and 2 tablespoons of sugar are diluted in a small amount of warm water and the mixture is added to a bucket of water. Insist 2 hours.

Iodine as a spring dressing for strawberries

Regular iodine can prevent some strawberry diseases if you add literally a few drops to a solution for feeding. Iodine is an antiseptic, therefore, it is able to prevent the appearance of various bacterial diseases and rot in plants. For watering and spraying, a 10% alcohol solution of iodine is used.

Strawberries are fed iodine in early spring to stimulate growth and to prevent gray rot and powdery mildew. Also, a solution of iodine is sprayed on the leaf culture. The concentration of iodine for foliar top dressing should be less, otherwise the plant can be burned.

Strawberry dressing in spring with saltpeter

Strawberries need nitrogen fertilizers for good growth and flowering, as well as for obtaining bright red large berries with excellent taste. If nitrogen is not enough, then the leaves will turn pale, and the berries will turn out small and tasteless. Nitrogen is found in ammonium nitrate and urea (urea). Nitrate here acts as a fertilizer together with ammonium sulfate and calcium nitrate.

Tip # 2. If there is no time to add the necessary minerals in turn, nitroammophosk can be used.

The first time strawberries are fertilized in early spring. A solution consisting of ammonium nitrate and urea (1 tablespoon), diluted in 10 liters of water, is poured under each bush of strawberries (0.5 liters). It must be remembered that an excess of this fertilizer leads to a loss of sugar in the berry.

For strawberries, potash fertilizers are also important. They increase its shelf life, improve palatability, and increase its sugar content. In spring, strawberries need to be fed with potassium nitrate, wood ash, potassium chloride, potassium sulfate. For this, the so-called tuks are suitable - mineral substances that need to be mixed into the soil to saturate the soil with nutrients. Inorganic fat are:

  • nitrogen: with ammonium nitrate, urea;
  • potash: with potassium sulfate, potassium nitrate.

During the second spring feeding, strawberries can be fed with such fertilizer: 1 tablespoon of potassium nitrate per 10 liters of water. You can feed strawberries under the roots, or you can directly on the plant, using liquid top dressing.

Urea for proper strawberry fertilizer

This top dressing is suitable for all types of soil. Urea (urea) provides a healthy crop due to its high nitrogen content. When using it, the main thing is to observe the dosage. If you make it more than necessary, then the berries can become tasteless and watery.

When the dosage is exceeded, the strawberry leaves curl and become dark brown. In this case, the plants need to provide abundant watering and limit the exposure to sunlight.

Why nettle is useful as a fertilizer

Nettle contains potassium (34%), magnesium (6%), calcium (37%), vitamins A, B, E, K, volatile, tannins, and organic substances. All of them are useful for the full development and growth of strawberries. They are easily digested. Vitamin K is involved in photosynthesis, increases the immunity of plants.

Nettle is used as an infusion - a fermented plant mass. How to cook it? Young leaves and stalks of nettles should be put in a barrel (non-metallic), filled with water and left to ferment for a week or two, mixing daily, without fail. The resulting mixture is diluted with water: half a liter of infusion per 10 liters of water. This mass is watered with strawberries.

Foliar feeding strawberries in the spring

You can prepare such a solution: for 10 liters of water, take 3 grams of manganese potassium and 2 grams of boric acid and add the fertilizers used during planting. With this mixture, feed strawberries well before flowering. When the first flowers appear, the amount of ingredients must be halved by adding 2 grams of potassium sulfate to the mixture.

When to feed strawberries

For three years, strawberries completely deplete the soil on which it grows. Therefore, to ensure a good crop, you need to either feed the plants, or transplant them to a new place. Read also the article: → "". The first option is preferable, since it takes less effort and time. Approximate portions of fertilizer application on sod-podzolic soils for strawberries are indicated in the table:

Soil security Compost (manure), t / ha Nitrogen (N), kg d / ha Phosphorus (P2O5), kg d.v / ha Potassium (K2O) kg d.v / ha
Low 60-80 50-60 100 80-120
Average 40-50 30-40 80-60 50-80
High 30 10-20 40 25-40

If your strawberry is already more than 3 years old, then you need to feed it three times to ensure a good harvest:

  • when the first leaves appear;
  • when the buds will appear;
  • when the ovaries appear.

The most suitable time for the first feeding - depending on the climatic region - mid-end April. First of all, remove garbage from the beds - branches, leaves, etc. Around the roots of the seedlings with a very thin layer (through the top dressing should be visible to the ground) spread manure, chicken droppings or mullein, and fill the fertilizers with soil 2 centimeters high.

The second top dressing is carried out in the middle - the end of May, when the first flowers appear. It is good to use iodine and ash: pour a glass of ash with boiling water, strain and pour the resulting liquid into a bucket filled with 10 liters of warm water. Add 30 drops of iodine and pour 500-700 milliliters of the mixture into each bush.

The third top dressing is carried out before the ovary of berries. During this period, the best feeding is infusion of weeds. They do it like this: weed beds, chop weeds and fill them with a bucket; pour them with water and let it brew in a warm room for a week; strain the mixture, dilute with water in a ratio of 1: 1 and pour strawberry bushes under the root (1 liter per bush). To such dressing, some gardeners add yeast (200 grams per 10 liters of mixture). But you should not do this, since this will not affect the growth of berries, but the soil will become stony.

How to feed strawberries with folk remedies

Fertilizing the soil is the most necessary for the plant, both before planting and during growth, is a mandatory point of care

In addition to ready-made industrial dressings, summer residents use folk remedies to fertilize strawberries. Everyone knows how important organic matter is for plants - dung humus, chicken droppings, peat, herbal infusions and even food waste. All these fertilizers contain a large amount of nitrogen, which is necessary for the strawberries to be large, sweet and juicy.

Tip # 3. Chicken manure is used in liquid form: 1 liter of manure per 10 liters of water. Such a solution must be infused for three days, otherwise you can burn the plants.

Strawberries can be fertilized with dairy products - for example, whey. Milk contains more than 19 useful amino acids, as well as minerals, calcium, sulfur, nitrogen, phosphorus. The most beneficial environment for the development and fruiting of strawberries is a slightly acidic soil. And it is in this sense that dairy products are the most correct decision, since they make such a soil. They are recommended to be used in conjunction with manure, humus and ash. It is good to spray strawberries with milk - this will scare away from it insect pests - aphids, ticks.

Very well, fertilizers from bread influence the growth and development of strawberries. They are prepared simply: dried bread is soaked to a state of fermentation in water - ripening will occur after about 6-10 days. This solution is diluted with water in a ratio of 1:10. Yeast will create favorable conditions for strawberry growth. In addition, the yeast acidifies the soil, and the berries receive the necessary nutrition and become large.

It is advisable to feed strawberries with herbal infusions several times a season. For this, besides nettle, burdock, mint, wormwood, various garden weeds are suitable. It is good to add onion peel to them. All this is folded into a net and lowered into a barrel of water. Close the lid and insist for one to two weeks. Received infusion under the root and pour strawberries. This top dressing provides strawberry bushes with substances necessary for full growth and fruiting.

Experienced gardeners advise periodically spraying strawberry bushes with warm dandelion infusion (500 grams per 10 liters of water). This contributes to the destruction of pathogens and insect pests. As an alternative - infusion of garlic (200 grams of garlic in a bucket of water).

Benefits of Strawberry Mulch

This is a very effective and economical way to feed strawberries. Its advantages:

  • firstly, there is no need to weed beds from weeds;
  • secondly, the berries remain healthy and clean;
  • thirdly, the soil remains moist for a long time, so plants can be watered less often.
  • Fourthly, after rain on the soil a crust does not form, which means that its friability is preserved.

Question-answer heading

There are many different top dressings that you can either buy in a special store or take advantage of folk, time-tested methods.

Question number 1.  How to increase strawberry yield?

Feed the strawberries with live yeast: 2 packs per 10 liters of water. Or humates. If they do not have iodine, then add 10 drops per 10 liters of water. Today, bags with iodized humates are sold, the contents of which must be diluted according to the instructions. Iodine is the protection of plants from insects. You can also mulch the beds with strawberries with well-rotted manure.

Question number 2.  What to do so that the berries do not lie on the ground?

To prevent strawberries from getting dirty, the soil around the bushes after flowering needs to be covered with fresh sawdust, then pour with a solution of ammonium nitrate or urea at the rate of 1 tablespoon per 10 liters of water, and then pour with clean water.

Question number 3.  Why is strawberry dried up?

First, making beds, put drip irrigation under the film, and only then plant strawberries. Be sure to pay attention so that the heart does not die, but also does not protrude too much. After planting, process the Epinom beds. If the heart has dried up, new bushes can be planted in this place. It is advisable to cut the foliage after planting for better rooting without damaging the heart. Do not cover with film on top!

Fertilizer for strawberries - how to increase productivity in simple ways?

In order for strawberry fertilizer to benefit, experienced gardeners advise not to neglect important rules and observe agricultural cultivation techniques, both in spring and summer, and in autumn. Fertilizing for garden strawberries is necessary immediately after waking up, during flowering, during the period of berry formation, and also after harvesting, when the buds of the future crop are laid. To do everything right, read the full article ...

Fertilizer for strawberries in the spring - activate growth!

The long, cold winter is over, the plants have spent all their nutrient reserves, and now the deficit needs to be filled. Before fertilizing strawberries in the spring, you need to prepare it for this process - remove the beds and process.

Plants of the first year of life do not require top dressing if it was produced in the spring of this year and was fertilized, because has not yet consumed the top dressing brought into the planting pits. The culture of the following seasons needs to be fertilized in order to get a generous and tasty crop. Strawberry dressing is divided into three stages - strawberry fertilizer in spring, after fruiting, when planting in summer or autumn, when preparing strawberry bushes for winter.

It should be immediately noted that each gardener independently determines the need for feeding strawberries, taking into account previously applied fertilizers, the condition and growth of plants, as well as the structure and composition of the soil.

On a note:  oversaturated with fertilizers in the spring garden strawberries will give good foliage, but in this case you should not wait for a rich harvest of berries, because an excess of trace elements will lead not only to the active growth of the green part, but will also be a good help in order to appear. In simple words, the plant will need to get rid of excess elements, so the internal processes will be violated, the immunity and protective functions of strawberries will decrease, and the result of the great efforts of the summer resident is a plant disease.

Fertilizer applied on time will be a good stimulator of strawberry growth, moreover, it is necessary to feed both the aboveground part and the roots, i.e. carry out foliar and root dressing. Before fertilizing strawberries after winter, you need to make sure the soil is dry and restore bushes after winter. If you know how to clean the garden and what to do next, let's go directly to top dressing.

fertilizing strawberries with potassium permanganate - pictured

The first fertilizer for strawberries needs to be applied after they have finished cultivating, this will be the beginning of a new season of the battle for the crop. For many summer residents, strawberry dressing with iodine has become popular, but not everyone knows what effect will be from such feeding, we will figure it out.

First of all, an antiseptic protects the plant from disease. Strawberry bushes treated with iodine practically do not get gray rot and powdery mildew. For ten liters of water, take 7-10 drops of iodine, and with the prepared solution, treat the plants on a leaf from a watering can with a shower head immediately after cleaning the beds, and in order not to burn the leaves, observe the dosage.

Processing strawberries with iodine should be carried out in cloudy weather, or in the evening, when there is no bright sun, so as not to burn leaf plates. In total, such treatments with iodine before the onset of berries should be 2-3. And remember, in this case, iodine acts more as a prophylactic against diseases.

5-7 days after spraying with iodine, strawberries are fed, which is diluted with water in the ratio of 1 tablespoon to 10 liters of water. Pour 0.5 liters of the finished solution under each plant. In addition to urea, of course, they are used, which are prepared with their own hands and certainly do not contain any chemistry.

If everything is done correctly and on time, nitrogen-containing fertilizers are used, then the leaves and shoots will grow well, you will get a delicious bright red berry in the summer. With a lack of nitrogen, the leaves turn pale, the berries are born small, and the taste will be better. Also, in early spring, strawberries can be fed with Gumi-Omi Berry fertilizer, Zdorovne for strawberries and raspberries, Bona Forte, WMD Universal, Gumat +7, Robin Green, etc.

On a note:  It is necessary to start feeding strawberries when the soil warms up to + 8 ° C, at lower temperatures the roots of strawberries do not absorb fertilizers.

fertilizing strawberries with nitrogen-containing fertilizer during flowering - pictured

Strawberries can be fed during flowering by the following home-made fertilizer, which is used by experienced gardeners - take 1 cup of wood ash, pour 2 liters of boiling water, let it brew for two hours, then add 1.5-2 g of potassium permanganate here, 2.5- 3 grams of boric acid, 10 drops of iodine and pour 10 liters of warm, settled (not chlorinated) water and mix thoroughly. Pour 1 cup (250 ml) of this fertilizer under each strawberry bush.

In addition to the above fertilizers, gardeners are very successful in feeding strawberries with yeast, which is prepared as follows - a pack of fresh store yeast (or a bag of dry yeast, 10 g) is taken, placed in a 3-liter jar, and 100 g of granulated sugar is poured there (1/2 faceted glass) and all this substance is poured with settled water to the shoulders of the can, so that during fermentation it does not overflow over the top.

feeding strawberries during flowering - pictured

Stir the yeast solution well and leave it in a greenhouse or other warm place for a day or two until the fermentation is gone. When the fermentation process ends, 1 cup (250 ml) of the obtained concentrated mixture must be diluted in 10 liters of water and pour the prepared solution of 0.5 liters under one bush.

Feeding strawberries with yeast should be carried out no more than 3 times for the entire growing season. Fertilize strictly on moist ground, i.e. first you need to water the garden well! And remember, when using fertilizers based on yeast, it is necessary to replenish the potassium reserves in the soil, which is very strongly absorbed from the soil by strawberries (fertilize with wood ash after 14-15 days, sprinkled between rows or using a liquid solution). Fertilizer for strawberries, introduced in the spring, activates growth, leads to a decent harvest.

Strawberry dressing during fruiting - we extend the harvest

With the onset of summer, beginning summer residents again face the question - what should be the feeding of strawberries during fruiting? To improve fruiting, to extend the collection of fruits, the plant must be fed again.

In early summer, the culture forms the first fruits, so potassium is especially needed. As soon as the first berries begin to appear, wood ash is introduced between the rows (1 handful under the bush, or 0.5 l of a liquid solution - pour 2 cups of boiling water, leave for 2-3 hours and dilute with 10 liters of warm water).

feeding strawberries with chicken droppings - in the photo

If you use mineral fertilizers, then strawberries during the fruiting period can be given potassium monophosphate (1 tbsp. / 10 l.), Kemira Lux or Universal, which must be bred strictly according to the instructions. Fruiting lasts about two to three weeks, but even at such a time, the plant needs additional substances.

Feeding strawberries with a solution of mullein in water (1:15) is the most universal, and you can also use a solution of chicken manure (1:10). In addition, fertilizers that were used in early spring can also be used and alternated during fruiting.

Do not forget that after harvesting, strawberries need to be fed, loosened and watered, because it is after harvesting the berries that leaves, roots begin to grow actively, the buds of the next year are laid, so do not throw the bed until autumn. And if you decide to mow strawberry leaves, then do it immediately after the bushes have set off, otherwise the plants may not have time to completely recover.

How to fertilize strawberries when planting?

Spring, summer and the first half of autumn - the time when strawberries are planted, it depends on the season and what fertilizes strawberries when planting. Fertilizers that can be used in the spring can not always be taken in the autumn.

Spring planting is considered to be successful, exactly, like autumn and summer. The land, before landing, must be dug up, watered and fertilized. In order to bear fruit and grow normally, bushes need mineral and organic fertilizers. Complex preparations that contain nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus have a greater effect, the successful use of manure and humus. Three types of fertilizer mixtures are especially popular:

  1. A bucket of soil, the same amount of compost and manure, 1 liter of wood ash;
  2. A bucket of humus, 20 g of potassium salt, 40 g of superphosphate;
  3. A bucket of compost, 40 g of superphosphate, 0.5 l of ash.

On a 10 m² bed you will need 2-2.5 buckets of the mixture. If planting is carried out in the spring, then you need to add urea to the mixture, or immediately after planting on the garden bed, feed green liquid fertilizer. When planting in summer, it is better to use a complete complex fertilizer with a low nitrogen content, in the fall they do not give nitrogen so that the plants have time to grow stronger before the onset of frost, and not grow lush foliage in the winter.

Strawberry fertilizer in the fall - we prepare bushes for the winter

An important role is played by fertilizer for strawberries in the fall. What month to do this depends not only on the variety, but also on the climatic conditions of cultivation, because in the Kuban at the end of September it is still quite hot, and in the Urals and Siberia, the Leningrad Region, the Moscow Region, long rains and the temperature can drop quite low, therefore strawberry fertilizer time in autumn will be different.

Each gardener independently decides when to feed strawberries in September or October, taking into account weather conditions and plant health. Do not forget when the temperature of the soil drops below +8 ° C, strawberry roots cease to absorb nutrients.

In autumn, strawberries must be given potassium and phosphorus, so that the plants get stronger by winter. Nevertheless, agronomists recommend using mineral complexes rather than home-made compounds in the autumn period, in addition, top dressing in accordance with the instructions will not harm either plants or humans.

Many summer residents use Autumn fertilizer, Fertika, etc. instead of using minerals, you can do the following - loosen the bed, put humus or compost on top of the bushes to cover the roots for the winter, and pour 1 tablespoon under each plant. wood ash and mix with the ground.

Use a liquid fertilizer based on ash (2 cups pour a liter of boiling water, leave for 2-3 hours and add 10 liters of water), pouring at least 0.5 liters under the bush. The ash solution can still be used as foliar top dressing in the fall; you need to water the strawberry bed well from a watering can with a shower head.

And remember, gardeners and gardeners are respected, no matter how many options for fertilizing and fertilizing strawberries do not exist, agronomists recommend that ordinary garden strawberries be fed 3-4 times a season, and rehabilitated varieties should be fed every 7-10 days. Have a good harvest!

Strawberry dressing in the spring.

Spring has come, birds have begun to sing, buds on the trees are blooming. This means that the time has come for strawberries. To get a good harvest, you need to properly care for and fertilize the bushes from early spring. You will learn about fertilizer rules here.

How to feed strawberries immediately after winter in spring?

  • In early spring, we remove completely spread sawdust from overwintered strawberries.
  • Cut off old dry leaves.
  • We loosen the soil under each bush.
  • Also cut the old, sick, brown tops. We leave only a new one.
  • Be sure to check the condition of the neck (growth point) of strawberries after frost. It should be slightly higher than 4-5 mm above ground level.
  • In order for the strawberries not to rot, the growth point must be in the open state. It is very important to properly feed strawberries in the spring and regularly take care of this wonderful berry.

The first feeding of strawberries is done in the spring, until flowers and buds are formed.

  • For starters, we simply clean our strawberries, remove dry and old leaves. The first fertilizer is better to make a good and rich mullein, which is prepared from fresh cow cakes.
  • So, for our fertilizer it is necessary to dilute 10 liters of water with 1 liter of fermented liquid mullein.
  • If you do not use mullein, then the first top dressing can be done with urea, that is, urea. To do this, dilute 10 tbsp of urea in 10 l of water. With this, pour 0.5 l under each bush of the plant.
  • Regarding mullein, you will also need 0.5 liters per bush. Carefully water our strawberries with this mixture.
  • Fertilize after rain so that the earth is wet. So the mullein will be better absorbed into the soil. And on dry it will flow around, and the crust will not let it soak.
  • Mullein is good in that it is quite saturated with nitrogen and phosphorus. And nitrogen, as you know, is needed by any fruit plant to give it growth, while phosphorus accompanies the formation of ovaries so that they are larger and larger.

This is how the first spring dressing is carried out. Be sure to fertilize strawberries for a plentiful summer harvest.

How to feed strawberries in the spring before flowering and during flowering?

You still do not know what to process and how to protect strawberries? Then this information is for you.

  • The first treatment is best done using the drug "Chorus" with a calculation of 12 g per 10 liters of water. After about 2 weeks, it is necessary to treat the strawberries again from disease.
  • It is also best to use Chorus (12 g per 10 liters of water) and Topaz 6 ml per 10 liters of water. These two drugs will block all possible diseases, spotting your strawberries.
  • You can also use the foliar fertilizer “Plantafol” 20 g per 10 l of water, “Brexil mix” and “Growth concentrate” and “Megafol” in the same ratio to the same fertilizer.
  • Mix all this thoroughly and process the strawberries. You can also add the drug Boroplus (10-15 ml) for better formation of the ovary.

During the flowering of strawberries, it is good to make the following fertilizer:

  • Pour 1 cup of wood ash in a bucket and pour 2 liters of boiling water. Stir well and let it brew for 2 hours, and after that you need to add 3 g of potassium permanganate and 3 g of boric acid.
  • Also remember to add one tablespoon of iodine. You will get a mixture that you can safely water your strawberries. Mix everything thoroughly and add water to a total volume of 10 liters.
  • Knead all this purple mixture until smooth.
  • When diluting, it is best to use rainwater. If you don’t have one, then you can use standing water, as this should not be done with chlorinated water.
  • You can spray both leaves and flowers, and ovate plants with this water. In order to give her the fruiting power in order to get a good harvest, you need to well pour a glass under each bush.

Strawberry Spring Care Feeding with Iodine

To process young pagons using this tool, you will need two components:

  • potassium iodide itself
  • potassium permanganate - that is, potassium permanganate

The prepared solution using the above-mentioned components helps not only from crush and pests, but also from gray rot and the appearance of spots on the leaves, and also saturates the future crop with microelements. To prepare such a solution, you need to take 1 tbsp. iodine and literally several granules of potassium permanganate in 10 liters of water.

It is desirable to water this solution with bushes previously showered with ash and fertilizer. With such an integrated approach, the effectiveness of the result will be more guaranteed.

Strawberries in the spring: care and top dressing with boric acid

  • Before feeding strawberries, it is imperative to loosen the soil by about 10 cm with a garden fork.
  • For the best effect from fertilizing and protecting the plant itself, we recommend sprinkling the aisle with straw. This will help not trample our strawberries.
  • Now that we have sprinkled our strawberries with straw, it is necessary to fill it with herbal infusion. This is a thick, brown-colored liquid, which is very easy to make: a third of the container is densely packed with nettles, filled with water and infused either in the greenhouse or simply in the sun. 2-3 days and the infusion is ready. Without diluting it, carefully spill our berries with it.
  • So, when we spilled the beds with a solution, again we spill them with a mixture of boric acid. The ratio of components: approximately 10 g per 30 l of water. Water the plant again.

A mixture of boric acid is very useful and necessary for these berries, it helps to form the ovaries of the plant. That is why, before the flowering of the berries, we fertilize strawberries with acid. After we fed strawberries, it is necessary to process it from pests such as ticks and weevils.

Strawberry dressing in spring with folk remedies

One of the most popular methods of feeding shrubs of sweet red berries with folk remedies is its fertilizer.   nettle infusion. What does he give? Nettle contains many trace elements and when fed with tincture from this plant, more chlorophyll is formed in the leaves - accordingly, it becomes more resistant to fruiting and the environment.

  • To prepare such an infusion, you need to collect nettles, it is desirable that the plants were not overgrown, that is, without the formation of seeds.
  • Fill some container to the top, tightly stacking the stems. It is advisable to take the container not metal. And for example, plastic or enameled.
  • Fill the nettle dish with water. Put in a sunny place. Fermentation takes place there for 7-15 days.
  • Every morning, stir in our nettle water. The liquid should be considered ready when it foams and a characteristic, unpleasant odor emanates from it. Then this cooked infusion strain.
  • If you carry out root dressing - that is, pour the infusion under the roots of the plants - then take a liter of our infusion on a ten-liter bucket of water. Pour at least a liter of cooked infusion under each bush.

Strawberry Yeast

Gardeners began to feed plants with yeast relatively recently. But judging by the experience already gained, the result is impressive. Yeast can be fertilized with strawberries two, maximum three times a season.

This is, first of all, in the spring - to enhance vegetative growth, in the summer - to support during the period of active fruiting and in the recovery period - after fruiting. For strawberries for 10 bushes, a usual 5 liter bucket is enough.

To prepare the solution itself, you will need, first of all, naturally yeast. You can take both ordinary and high-speed dry bakeries.

An excellent container for preparing our fertilizer will be a regular plastic bottle. It is in it that it will be convenient to dilute and shake our solution qualitatively.

  • When using dry yeast, dilute 100 g packet in 2 l of warm water, add 2-3 tbsp of sugar.
  • After closing the lid tightly, shake the bottle thoroughly, mixing the ingredients with high quality.
  • In the case of using ordinary rather than dry yeast, a proportional ratio of 1 kg of yeast to 5 liters of water should be adhered to.
  • Next, pour our mixture into a ten-liter bucket, add water and put it in a warm place for 3-4 hours.
  • At the end of time, pour 10 liters of the prepared yeast solution into a 200 liter barrel.
  • If such a large volume is not needed, add 0.5 liters of the prepared yeast solution to a ten-liter watering can each time.

Water strawberry bushes directly under the root for at least half a liter.

Spring strawberry dressing with chicken droppings

Strawberries - this is the most common plant in our gardens, kitchen gardens and country estates. In order to grow a good crop of berries, it is not enough just to water strawberries on time, to snuff and fight pests. An important component is also the nutrition of strawberries.

  • In order to prepare a solution of chicken manure, you need to take a semi-liquid fresh chicken manure, pour it into a bucket so that the ratio is 1 * 15.
  • Add warm water to the litter bucket and stir more thoroughly.
  • The solution of chicken manure is ready, it is not necessary to insist it, since all useful substances, such as, for example, nitrogen, evaporate very easily and quickly.
  • Therefore, it is necessary to pour the solution into the watering can.
  • If there is thick chicken droppings at the bottom of the bucket, you can pour it under an apple tree or other fruit tree.
  • We take a watering can and gently water our strawberries around, not very close.
  • Try not to get on the leaves with a solution.
  • After this top dressing, strawberries begin to bear fruit very well, while the berries are beautiful, large, sweet and juicy.

Strawberry top dressing in the spring

Ash is primarily known for the fact that it is an excellent potash fertilizer. In addition to potassium, it contains phosphorus, calcium, magnesium. Being an easily soluble product, combustion products can be used both in pure - dry form, and in the form of a prepared solution.

Wood ash is the best way to fertilize strawberries — that is, the remains of the combustion of wood, firewood, branches, etc.

  • To prepare the ash infusion, you need to take two liter cans (about 1 kg) of ash on a ten-liter bucket of water.
  • Leave the infusion for a day for insisting, stirring occasionally.
  • All soluble elements will go into water and the mother liquor will be ready in a day.
  • To prepare the irrigation solution, you need to dilute a liter of concentrated extract in 10 liters of water.

When used in dry form, sprinkle plenty of ash under the bushes. With further root watering, useful components will penetrate the ground.

What fertilizer for strawberries in spring?

In order to grow a generous strawberry crop, it is not enough just to weed and water it, to control pests. An important component is nutrition.

In addition to the well-known traditional folk methods of feeding chicken manure, peat or ash, industrial preparations are widely known - organic fertilizers. For maximum effectiveness, it is worth making those preparations that are designed specifically for strawberries.

They are in the best way balanced and selected the necessary components in the correct proportions - nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium. The largest amount in such fertilizers is potassium and nitrogen. It is these components that are most important for the proper formation of the bud and the development of the strawberry fruit.

Such a category of fertilizers includes, for example, the drug "Lubo-Zeleno" from the company "Rusagrohim." In addition, various preparations containing dry chicken droppings, concentrate of wood ash or humus, which will easily help to fulfill the nutrition function of strawberry bushes, are widely represented on the market.

Strawberry spring urea top dressing

  • For top dressing, measure out 10 l of water, add 3 tbsp. Carbomide (urea) with a slide.
  • All this is thoroughly stirred until the urea granules are completely dissolved.
  • After that, pour our strawberries with this solution: 0.5 l for each bush.
  • We also advise you to cultivate the soil from ants loved by dry preparations for the best condition of strawberries. This is best done around the bush.
  • After we fed our strawberries, it is necessary to cover the bushes with film on the arches, leaving one side open.

Complex fertilizer for strawberries in the spring

With complex fertilizer, it is necessary, first of all, to prune last year's dry leaves, leaving only a young outlet. After cutting, plow the ground around the bush.

  • To begin, generously sprinkle all the strawberries with wood ash - the aisles and under the bushes themselves.
  • After making the main potash fertilizer, sprinkle humus on top.
  • The next step will be pest control and top dressing.
  • As such a comprehensive, strong enough proven remedy for strawberries, use ordinary ammonia.
  • You need to dilute a pharmacy bottle of 40 ml in 10 l of water and pour plenty of strawberries, pre-sprinkled with ash and humus.
  • When watering, the necessary elements from ash and humus with water will fall into the ground.
  • The upper leaf treatment should be treated with Fitoverm - in the concentration of an ampoule per liter of water.

  Complex Strawberry Fertilizer

Foliar feeding strawberries in the spring

As you know, strawberries are very composed of large amounts of iron. In addition to iron, it has a large amount of manganese and zinc. Foliar top dressing has 3 stages.

  • The first stage of the process is done for spraying new young leaves of the plant.
  • The second stage is carried out when the strawberry begins to bloom.
  • And for the third time, it’s worth processing small green berries.

A special advantage of foliar top dressing is that all the necessary micro and macro elements immediately fall into the leaves of the plant. This is very acceptable when it needs nutrients.

The most optimal time for this procedure is the time after you pour the strawberries. But an even greater effect will be if it is carried out in dry, sunny and cloudless weather. Processing strawberries with boric acid (solution) gives a very good result. Also besides this, you can use solutions that have a sufficient amount of nitrogen.
