What is the best screen for the bath. Which screen for the bathtub is better to choose - monolithic, sliding or hinged: an overview of types, a variety of designs

The open space under the bathroom does not have a very aesthetic appearance, since there are sewer and water pipes, fasteners and other unsightly details. That is why you want to close such a place as efficiently and beautifully as possible. It is worth considering in more detail such wonderful devices in the interior as screens for baths, types and tips for their selection.

Varieties

The screen under the bath completely covers the space from the floor to its side; it can be made of various materials and have different designs. Its main task is to hide pipes and other functional details of the bathroom, cleaning products and household utensils. In addition, it will protect the space under the bathroom and objects located there from moisture, steam and splashes. For example, dry abrasive powders used for washing and cleaning are afraid of damp environments, and a reliable waterproof shutter can effectively protect them.

The screen in the bathroom can be homemade, made of the same finishing materials as its walls, the floor - in this case, it seems to continue the interior of the room. There are options for finished products that can be purchased at hardware stores and can be easily installed by yourself. The bath screen can be removable or non-removable, with flaps or opening doors, in addition, in design and functionality, there are a wide variety of types.

End screens cover the front part of the space under the bath, are made of plastic, PVC, aluminum or other light metals with a protective coating, and are available in various colors. Most often they are solid - from wall to wall, prevent the slightest ingress of moisture inside and completely close the internal communications. The protective screen can be non-removable, in this case, doors or dampers are used in it to access pipes and store household utensils.

The bath screen with hinged doors looks gorgeous. They are usually hinged in the housing, closed with a latch or tongue lock. Such swing doors not only look great, but are also convenient to use, when fully opened, it is convenient to repair pipes, and access to the space under the bathroom is facilitated. But more space is required to open, with a small area, problems may arise.

To save space, the end shield can be fitted with a sliding door. One or more flaps for opening - closing move along a guide in the form of a metal rail. At the same time, access to the space under the bathroom is also very simple; such screens can be installed in rooms with a small area. The simplest designs of such devices are made of plastic or polyvinyl chloride, but the screen can also be mirrored, metal, or wooden.

The folding screen under the bath has an original design and the ability to store many attributes for washing in niches. For smooth opening, it must be equipped with a special mechanism with hinges and handles. It is convenient to place shelves for shampoos, soap, cleaning products and other necessary items inside the flaps. The difficulty of mounting such a screen compensates for the impressive appearance and maximum comfort during use.

The removable end screen can be made in the form of a simple screen with legs, covering the bath from one side or from several. The advantages of this design are the absence of the need for installation, low cost, for repair, you can remove the entire screen in one second, providing convenient access at the bottom. But such a product will not be completely sealed - there are gaps between the screen and the floor.

An economical and easy-to-install option is a curtain screen, which can be made of waterproof fabric, plastic film, oilcloth or blinds. Usually for him, a well-stretched fishing line is mounted under the side of the bath, and the curtain itself is strung on decorative loops. You can make such a screen yourself from scrap materials; it will provide reliable protection for the space under the bathroom and can be easily opened, providing convenient access to the inside.

For a corner bath or shower, it is possible to make a custom project with your own hands. Such a screen, as a rule, will have two sides; a door or damper is created on a more accessible one for access to communications. The place of joints of two sides is best sheathed with a decorative plastic corner. Corner screens can be equipped with hinged or sliding doors.

The design of the screen can be solid, repeating the interior of the walls. In this case, the same finishing materials are used to create it as for the bathroom. For example, when decorating the walls with tiles, the same tile can also lie on the damper mounted on a frame made of metal profiles and drywall. This method allows you to achieve the most harmonious interior, but it is worth installing a hatch or a door to access the bathroom into the screen.

In their form, such screens can be of the following types:

  • "Blank wall" - a solid vertical flap that covers the entire space under the bathroom;
  • inclined screen - maximally covers the floor, protecting it from steam and moisture;
  • with a recess for the legs - allows you to come close to the bathtub for cleaning, washing, and so on.

A multifunctional screen can be a very original and practical idea. It covers the floor under the bathroom, protects it from steam and splashes, plus it contains open shelves for accessories, cabinets with hinged, hinged or sliding doors, and also provides access to water pipes. With a set of necessary tools at hand, you can create a chic project of such a multifunctional screen.

Advantages and disadvantages

A protective screen under the bathtub should be purchased or made yourself.

This is due to a number of advantages of these simple devices:

  • it effectively protects pipes, floors and other items under the bathroom, this is very important for a humid room environment;
  • the bathroom takes on a completely different look if available;
  • inside, thanks to the damper, dust and dirt do not accumulate;
  • a screen equipped with doors or hinged hatches will provide convenient access to communications;
  • this accessory can be as functional as possible if you make it yourself and equip it with drawers and shelves.

From the numerous reviews, one can single out the main disadvantages of the bathroom screen. The main disadvantage is the complication of access to gender and communications, but it has already been described above how to get rid of this problem. They also note that the floor with such a device is more difficult to clean, and the joints of the screen and the floor are the main centers of dirt accumulation. But with proper care, achieving perfect cleanliness in the bathroom will not be a problem.

Materials (edit)

For an acrylic or cast iron bath, a variety of screen materials can be installed. Plastic models are the most common due to their low cost, ease of portability and ease of installation. For wet rooms, various polymeric materials are used, differing in colors, textures and patterns. The plastic panel does not rot, deform and can retain its original appearance for several decades. A huge advantage of this material is that its surface can be easily washed with a regular damp sponge.

Plastic and PVC panels are installed on a metal profile frame that attaches to the floor, walls and sides of the bathtub. For doors, a steel guide rail is most often used, that is, in most cases they are sliding. If necessary, you can easily adapt the existing plastic sheets to the size of the bath, they can be easily cut with an ordinary knife. The variety of this material allows you to choose screens for any bathroom design: for tiles, marble, monotonous or with textures, light and dark.

A metal screen covered with a protective layer is cheap, durable and lightweight, it is not afraid of moisture. Most often, there is an aluminum version, which can easily close the niche under the bathroom. You can fix the aluminum screen with ordinary anchors or self-tapping screws. Ease of processing of the material allows you to make openings for doors and ventilation holes in it. Like plastic, polymer-coated aluminum sheet can imitate many more expensive materials, have different textures and colors.

The wooden screen under the bathtub will look very impressive, it is recommended for those who love natural materials. It is easy to make any structure out of wood: swing or hinged doors, shelves or cabinets. Since natural wood is exposed to moisture, it is imperative to treat the parts with a protective varnish. The advantage is that the wood does not need special care, it is enough just to wipe its surface.

The glass bath screen looks as elegant as possible. The only drawback of the material is its fragility. For a beautiful design, it is worth choosing frosted or translucent glass, with corrugation or a color shade to match the overall color of the walls and floor. The material is easy to clean, perfectly protects from moisture and is not afraid of high temperatures. It is best to use thick, glued mineral glass to install the screen.

Mirror screens are expensive and difficult to install, but they look gorgeous. Another advantage is the visual increase in space. Even in a small room, they will create a unique interior.

A practical and cheap option would be to install a protective screen made of MDF. Of all the materials considered, they will have the lowest cost, but are not inferior in strength. Thanks to the laminated surface, MDF panels have many colors and textures, they can imitate any noble material. They are easy to maintain, easy to cut, any type of door can be created. There are also disadvantages - a short service life of 3 - 5 years and the likelihood of deformation in a humid environment.

Protective screens made of tiles or ceramics are very widespread, since they are as strong as possible and allow this part to fit into the interior. One has only to purchase in advance the same tiles that were used for cladding the walls and floor in the bathroom. The most practical option is to put the tiles on a metal profile and drywall frame. For installation, moisture-resistant grades of gypsum board and ordinary aluminum profiles are selected. The tiles are attached to any cement-based tile adhesive. When designing such a screen, care must be taken to install opening doors or dampers and ventilation holes.

Dimensions (edit)

The finished products can be selected in accordance with the standard dimensions of the bathtubs, then you do not have to shorten anything. There are similar products on sale in lengths of 120, 130, 140, 150 cm made of plastic, PVC, aluminum and other materials. Almost all of them are equipped with sliding doors or removable hatches. If the size of the bathroom is larger, for example, in a country cottage, then it is possible to purchase longer screens of 160, 170 and 180 cm or to order a product with your own dimensions.

The height of the finished screens is also made in accordance with the dimensions of standard acrylic and cast-iron bathtubs and can be 55, 60, 80 cm, you can find other options. How to choose?

The choice of the screen depends, first of all, on the size of the bath itself and the room where it is installed. It is best to choose a full length damper so that all areas are closed, this will ensure the greatest tightness and protection from moisture and dust. In addition, no extra plumbing details will be conspicuous. Corresponding sizes have been specially created for city apartments with a standard layout. They may differ slightly by a couple of centimeters, this problem can be easily corrected by sealing the gaps with a sealant, silicone or rubber seal.

It is optimal to choose a ready-made screen for a bath with standard dimensions with opening doors, since no one is immune from burst water supply and sewerage pipes, access to them may be required at any time. If the partition is solid and not removable, then in the event of an accident it will be necessary to partially or completely dismantle it, destroying the expensive interior decoration.

Removable screens or screens on legs are good for their lightness, they do not need to be fixed and mounted to the wall and floor. Such options can be used as a temporary partition. It is optimal to buy portable bath screens with metal adjustable legs made of plastic, polyvinyl chloride or aluminum.

For acrylic bathtubs, it is most successful to select solid screens or deaf removable structures. They are suitable for all rectangular versions, made of plastic or cast marble. Typically, such products have a white glossy shade that matches the surface of the bath itself. Many plumbing manufacturers produce their own screen partitions for their respective models.

For a traditional cast-iron bathtub, there is a choice of almost any ready-made or home-made screen, the main thing is that it reliably protects the floor and fits into the interior. Rigid stationary structures, for example, made of profiles, plasterboard and tiles, will serve as an additional support for a heavy cast iron bathtub. It is important to make a spacious opening in it, through which it will be convenient to penetrate to the internal communications. It can be made in the form of a frame made of a metal profile, a hole of the required length is cut in the plasterboard sheet, and a shield made of plywood, MDF or PVC can be used for the shutter.

For non-standard shapes of baths, for example, corner ones, it is often not possible to find appropriate screens on sale. Then they can be made according to individual projects. PVC panels are selected as materials, which are easy to cut, they are placed in corner or U-shaped profiles of aluminum, swing or sliding doors are made. If you want to wash and at the same time have access to soap accessories: shampoos, gels, washcloths, then it is best to put screens with hinged doors, then you can get the items inside without getting out of the bath.

It is also worth noting that some elite bathtub models have decorative legs designed specifically to be visible. Such products are installed on a floor with a fine finish, communications are hidden as much as possible, or pipes with a decorative coating are used. In this case, the use of screens is impractical.

Installation

The easiest way to do it yourself is a sliding screen supplied assembled. First, the bathtub is filled with water, handles are attached to the door leaves of the product, and removable legs are attached to the lower part of the body. The screen is brought under the front side of the bath so that it is located strictly vertically. At the end, you just need to adjust the legs to the desired height so that the opening is completely closed.

Slightly harder to make a screen with sliding doors which is sold unassembled. First, you need to mark the floor and walls in the places where the body and guide rails will be located. For marking, you need to take a pencil or marker, tape measure and a building level. Then, along the drawn line, guides and vertical parts of the frame are attached, the facade panels and sashes are inserted inside, the system is height-adjustable so that the doors slide freely horizontally. When this is done, further editing takes place in the same way as for the assembled screen.

All these procedures apply to screens with hinged or hinged doors, only the components differ. There is no metal rail guide, but there are regular door hinges or brackets. It will not be difficult to mount such varieties either.

With a non-standard bathtub shape, or if you want to create your own unique design, you can make your own flap for the bathroom. For covering with tiles, it is worth choosing options with a recess for the legs or inclined, this choice will be very practical for a long time to come. For installation, you will need a certain amount of tiles, combined with the decoration of the room, tile glue, metal profiles, sheets of waterproof drywall.

To begin with, U-shaped metal profiles are marked and installed on the walls and floor. It is necessary to fix them on screws with dowels, holes in the concrete are made with a perforator, the fasteners are tightened with a screwdriver or screwdriver. Transverse vertical stiffeners are attached to the frame using self-tapping screws for metal. Then the required piece of drywall is cut off and attached to the metal frame with special screws. An opening for the door is made in the partition.

When the vertical surface of the screen is ready, the decorative finish is started. The surface of the drywall sheet is primed, tile adhesive is diluted, the tile is laid on the partition. At the end, you need to make a door or hatch and fix it on the opening. To decorate such a non-removable screen, ceramic wall tiles are usually taken, the standard sizes are 15x15, 20x20 or 20x30 cm.You can choose a monotonous color for the overall color of the bathroom and the furniture in it, or arrange a stylish pattern. It all depends on the owner's design imagination.

It is very simple and without special financial costs you can install a protective curtain under the bathroom. For it, a waterproof material is taken: oilcloth, plastic wrap or rubberized fabric. Holes are cut in the upper part of the canvas, into which metal or plastic hinges are placed. Then you need to pull the fishing line on which the installed curtain will hang; you can take a steel or nylon thread for it. It is pulled over screws that are attached from opposite walls adjacent to the bathtub.

A good solution for a bath in a city apartment or a country house can be the creation of a homemade screen made of wood. The advantage is that wooden slats are very easy to cut with a hacksaw and fasten to nails. Of the tools you need only a hammer, a saw and a tape measure. You can choose different types of wood, the main thing is that the slats are well polished and covered with a waterproof varnish.

The frame of the wooden screen can be made of the same wood or metal profiles, then you will have to fix the slats on self-tapping screws for metal. In the partition, double-leaf swing doors are easily installed on iron hinges. You can show your design imagination and make comfortable niches with shelves and cabinets in such a design.

It is easy to make a removable screen from plastic or PVC sheets. It can be one-, two- or three-sided, depending on the needs. For rigidity, a frame is created from metal or plastic profiles, then the sheets are cut to size and inserted into the frame. It is easy to screw the adjustable legs to this screen from below. To create such a structure, approximately 0.6 - 1.5 square meters will be required. m of PVC sheet and 3 - 5 running meters of profiles. The advantage of a home-made plastic screen is also that you can create any beautiful photo printing on its surface.

Best options

For clarity, it is worth considering some of the most interesting and beautiful designs of bath screens. MDF construction with hinged doors. This solution allows you to easily take the desired accessory from the cabinet without leaving the bath. The project is very simple, you can assemble it yourself using laminated MDF panels, providing them with brackets and snap locks.

Decorative screen for corner bath. Assembled on a frame made of plasterboard and metal profiles from tiles, it goes well with the rest of the interior. The surface is durable, moisture resistant and easy to clean. With such a project, you can create a hidden hatch that will not violate the integrity of the picture, and access under the bath can be done without dismantling.

The structure is made of beautiful lacquered wood. Easy to install and easy to clean, it looks very elegant and can be combined with any furniture and fixtures. The case with hinged doors allows you to store household items inside. Wood always looks more noble than cold plastic or acrylic.

An example of a double-leaf sliding screen with photo printing. The plastic surface allows you to choose any bright drawing, pattern, photograph. Modern technologies give a long-lasting color. The material is cheap, so the picture can be replaced at any time.

Convenient multifunctional screen with shelves and a cabinet. The white surface works well with the acrylic bathtub. The swing door design is lightweight and easy to install.

The bathroom needs camouflage elements. It is here that the water supply lines are concentrated, which, without additional decor, look ugly and spoil the entire interior.

Special screens for the bathroom solve this problem, close the pipes and, if necessary, allow you to organize small niches for storing household chemicals and hygiene products. The storage capacity and convenience depend on the type of screen and how it is installed.

The screen is a frame-frame on which a decorative panel is fixed - solid, with hinged doors or sliding. The enclosed space is protected from moisture ingress.

There are many varieties of bath screens. Multifunctional models with shelves are very convenient. By installing such a screen, the owner of the bathroom receives both a decorative panel that covers the pipes and a neat cabinet for detergents and cleaning products.

It can be left empty, or it can be used as a small pantry.

The panel not only decorates the room; behind it, plumbing and household appliances are often placed, which, for aesthetic reasons, are not left in sight - plumbing cables, washcloths, floor rags, etc.

The video shows screens with different finishes:

Bath screens are installed when all other work has already been completed, this is the final stage of bathroom renovation.

The screen can be bright and attractive or inconspicuous, but the basic requirements remain unchanged - reliability, usability, aesthetic appearance.

You can choose any design and material, the main thing is that the owner is comfortable, there is still access to communications for inspection and repair.

When closed, the screen door is not conspicuous, it well masks the unsightly space under the bathroom, closes things that can be put in free space

Solid and sliding structures

Constructions can be solid or sliding. The first ones tightly close the space under the bathroom. Disassembly of the screen is required to inspect and repair communications. The latter initially provide for free access to pipes.

Such panels are equipped with doors that slide easily, slide to the sides along special grooves and open access to plumbing, household chemicals, and hygiene products.

The stationary decorative panel looks good, but is not designed to be freely movable. If pipes leak, the solid screen will have to be completely removed to gain access to the wiring

The advantages of solid screens include a greater variety of finishing materials, mosaic cladding, installation of decorative panels is possible.

The tiled stationary solid screen is easy to clean, extremely robust and durable. However, there are also disadvantages.

For access to communications, only a small opening remains, and in case of serious malfunctions it is not enough, you have to dismantle the entire structure.

Sliding screens are more convenient in everyday life, but not as strong and durable as solid screens. Depending on the material of the doors and frame, the installation of such a screen can be very simple or require serious effort.

The length of the sliding structure is usually 150-170, and the width and height are selected individually, according to the needs of the bathroom owner.

Decorative screens can be purchased ready-made, or you can make yourself. Any options and models are possible. Some screens are quite capable of replacing full-fledged lockers for linen and household chemicals

Most popular materials

For the manufacture of screens, durable materials that are not subject to corrosion are used. This guarantees the strength of the frame and the absence of deformation for a long time.

The panel should be made of materials resistant to moisture and high temperatures. In case of breakage of the decorative panel, splinters and debris must be such as not to injure a person.

The front finish can be any - ceramic tiles, mirror, glass, etc.

Most often, buyers choose screens from the following materials:

  • brick;
  • plastic;
  • metal;
  • drywall;
  • tongue-and-groove plates;
  • acrylic;
  • MDF panels;
  • plexiglass.

Glass always looks good in the bathroom, which is why it is often chosen for arranging screens. However, it should always be borne in mind that the material must be safe and resistant to mechanical damage.

Option # 1: Solid brickwork

Sometimes the space under the bathroom is simply closed with a small brick wall, which is then finished with the same facing tiles as the walls. Laying is done in 1/2 or 1/4 brick.

To do this, first mark the location of the wall so that after the cladding it is flush with the bath rim. If necessary, the bricks of the upper part of the wall are adjusted in size.

A brick wall as a screen can last for several decades. She is not afraid of any external influences or mechanical damage.

On the other hand, it also has obvious disadvantages. Access to communications is closed, no manipulations with the space under the bathroom are possible.

Such a screen surpasses any others in strength and reliability. Usually, when installing the screen-wall, a small inspection window is left so that you do not have to disassemble the entire wall for inspection and repair of communications. This opening can be open or closed by a door.

Option # 2: Drywall Screen

Drywall is a very convenient material for creating a solid screen under the bath. Its installation begins with the formation of a solid frame.

Most often, either a metal profile or a wooden beam treated with an antiseptic composition is chosen for the frame. The frame is marked out taking into account the front finishing material.

Seams between the profile and the bathroom floor are sealed to prevent moisture from entering the space under the bathroom.

The screen can be flat, or it can have a special niche for the legs. In the second case, when installing the profile, it is not mounted vertically in a straight line, but with a recess in the form of the letter "P".

The depth of such a niche is usually 10-15 cm. The finished frame is sheathed with sheets of moisture-resistant plasterboard, which is then primed and trimmed with face material.

Tiles, plaster, wallpaper are suitable as cladding. When installing drywall, take into account that it can swell on contact with water.

The sequence of work is described in detail in the video tutorial:

Option # 3: MDF and OSB boards

In addition to drywall, MDF and OSB boards can be used. In this case, they are primed even before the sheathing of the frame begins. You will also need to additionally make ventilation slots 5-10 cm long and 2-3 cm wide.

They are cut in the side opposite to the technological opening. Subsequently, the slots can be closed with a plastic grill. Otherwise, the installation of a screen made of MDF and OSB does not differ from the installation of a plasterboard structure.

You can buy a ready-made MDF screen. Such panels are solid and sliding. They look nice, fit well into the interior, are often very convenient to use, however, even laminated boards are sensitive to moisture.

They rarely retain their original appearance for more than three years. The cheaper the material, the higher the likelihood that the film will peel off due to high humidity, and the sheathing surface itself is deformed.

Under the bathroom screen, you can install a frame made of a wooden beam of 40x40 cm.When marking, it is necessary to take into account changes in the thickness of the cladding under the influence of moisture and the thickness of the cladding material

Option # 4: Plastic and plastic lining

Manufacturers of plastic screens claim that their products can last 10-30 years. In principle, this is possible if the panels are handled carefully.

The advantages of ready-made plastic models are a variety of colors and textures, ease of installation, operation, and maintenance. There are designs with shelves, sliding, fully opening and even removable.

The main advantage of plastic lining is its pleasant appearance. Such a screen does not require additional facing material.

They attach it to a starting profile made of metal or wooden beams. If a budget option is chosen - a cheap lining, then special attention should be paid to fastening the profile.

The profile for the lining is firmly fixed along the entire perimeter of the screen and in the middle. Such precautions are needed due to the low resistance of the lining to mechanical damage.

The profile is additionally attached to the floor with a sealant. The plastic is cut with a construction knife and wound with the edges behind the profile, gradually gaining the entire decorative panel.

At the point where the bathtub is drained, a technological opening is made for servicing the plumbing. For this, a plastic frame with a hinged door is installed.

This door can be purchased at a hardware store. The panel can be solid or consist of separate stripes placed at a small distance from each other.

Plastic lining screens are not as durable as plasterboard or brick ones, but they are very beautiful and quite functional. A wide range of colors and textures allows you to create an aesthetic design that will decorate the bathroom

Option # 5: Organic glass and mirror

Bath screens made of organic glass and mirrors look very original. This design can be obtained from a specialist store.

Usually these are sliding models that open access to all communications. Plexiglass is practically eternal. It is not afraid of high humidity, does not swell and does not promote the growth of microorganisms.

In terms of strength, organic glass is not inferior to plastic, but it may not withstand serious blows and scratches.

Plexiglass can be matte, transparent, patterned, of any color and texture. Screen manufacturers produce a wide variety of models with different types of flap opening.

The choice is wide, and every buyer can find the perfect one for their own bath. Glass models look great in ultra-modern bathrooms. Install them on a metal frame.

Mirror models are popular, but it is rather risky to install a real mirror at the bottom of the bathtub, so manufacturers have proposed a more practical option - mirror-coated plexiglass panels.

They are stronger than regular mirrors, easy to clean and just as luxurious. Plexiglas is quite difficult to break, but if it breaks, the shards will be small and safe.

The mirror screen is versatile, it always looks good in any interior.

Mirror designs are used not only as decoration and for utilitarian purposes. They model space perfectly. By placing such a screen and correctly placing the mirrors in the bathroom, you can visually expand the bathroom. It will appear larger and lighter.

Option # 6: Aluminum screens

If you are looking for the best option in terms of price-quality ratio, pay attention to the aluminum models. They cost a little more than budget plastic counterparts, but they are stronger and more durable.

Aluminum does not rust and retains its original appearance for a long time. The market offers many models, but the most popular among them are sliding designs.

The end wall of the aluminum screen can be made not only of metal, but also of organic glass or plastic.

Strong metal models are much more practical than plastic or drywall counterparts. If the aluminum doors do not fit into the interior, you can find a combined model - with plastic or glass

Option # 7: Acrylic models

These are specific screens that are only suitable for acrylic bathtubs and are usually sold with them in a set. The main material for the manufacture of such screens is plastic with an acrylic top facing.

Sizes and shapes are tailored to the specific bathtub, so finding a versatile acrylic screen that fits different models can be a challenge.

On the other hand, when buying an acrylic bathtub with a screen, the problem of masking communications is solved automatically.

The design panels do not differ in color from the bathtub, fit tightly to the sides, and the frame and fasteners are supplied in the kit.

Acrylic screens for specific bath models can be either solid or sliding. When choosing a bath, it makes sense to pay attention to the screen, because the ease of use and the appearance of the entire room largely depend on this

Each owner decides for himself how to organize the space in the bathroom, chooses materials and installation methods, focusing on his own ideas about convenience and aesthetics. A homemade screen is usually much stronger than a purchased one, but not everyone can make and install it correctly.

Before buying a screen, take measurements of the space under the bathroom, decide which configuration will be most convenient for you. If you want to find a screen that can be easily mounted without special tools, look for a model with adjustable legs. A specialist will give several useful recommendations for choosing:

When choosing ready-made screens, try not to skimp on quality. Imported models Albatros, Jucussi, domestic "Caravan" and Ecroline have proven themselves well. These manufacturers offer not only standard screens, but also corner screens.

The range of colors and textures are huge. You can find a model of any design and color, complete with everything you need for installation and assembly.

For a long time, the owners have been closing the space under the bathroom, using a special screen for this, which successfully hides all pipes, sinks and other communications. Such designs appeared on the market about 10-15 years ago. Today, some bathtubs can already be bought with screens that come with them and fit in appearance. In this article, we will explore such questions - what are the screens and how to install them in order to use their functions to the maximum.

The screen is made from different materials. Plasterboard, plastic, MDF, acrylic, painted metal can be used. The most popular material, taking into account the environment of the bathroom - high humidity - is plastic, since it is not affected by moisture, biologically neutral, does not absorb dirt, washes well, and is also quite durable. In addition, products from MDF are popular, despite the fact that this material, as it seems at first glance, is not suitable for a room with an excessive level of humidity. During the production process, the screen is coated with a special compound, which has moisture-repellent properties. When choosing a screen design, be guided by the characteristics of the room. If the bathroom is spacious, you can put a removable screen with shelves on its front surface. For a small bathroom, choose the most functional sliding model. When choosing a blank screen, think carefully, as in any case it will be impractical.

The easiest and most affordable option to decorate the space under the bathroom is to install a structure that is equipped with spacers or legs. They rest against the side of the bathtub and the floor when the height is adjusted. The screen fabric is either dull or lattice, uncomplicated in design. To use the space behind the screen, you have to remove it every time. The sliding version is considered the most convenient: guides are fixed on the metal frame, the doors move along them. Such a screen is suitable if you need to actively use the space under the bathroom, for example, store detergents, powders and other things there. However, such products are expensive, since they do not differ in special quality and are rather flimsy. Installation takes place by wedging between the floor and the bottom of the bath, which often necessitates its reinstallation. In addition, the screen often easily flies off the guides during use. A sliding design with shelves, according to consumer reviews, is the most convenient. By giving preference to a screen with shelves, which, in addition to doors, is equipped with a back wall, you get a full-fledged shallow cabinet for household needs. It is convenient to store household chemicals, detergents, sponges, brushes, gloves there. If you wish, you can also equip pull-out trays for small items. But remember that due to the presence of the back wall, access to the communications under the bathroom is difficult.

Removable fixed screens are often installed under acrylic bathtubs. They are made from acrylic or plastic. However, the process of installation and dismantling, if necessary, to gain access to communications is not as easy as in the case of sliding structures. Therefore, it is advisable to store only practically unnecessary things under the bathroom.

The stationary screen is made individually, you will not find such a model in the store. Access to the space is provided either full or partial. The doors of the structure can be moved apart or thrown open, folded back or removed.

Screens also differ depending on their finish. If the room is small, a mirror screen will look great, which will help to visually enlarge the room. A tile screen is considered a classic, especially when the entire bathtub is tiled with this material. Mosaic is a good choice, which opens up space for creativity and looks great, although it is not cheap at all. Sometimes the owners even make brickwork, giving preference to durability.

When buying a bath screen, you need to pay attention to the fittings - handles on the door for easy opening, adjustable legs to adjust the structure to the size of the bath.

A bath screen is a structure that is made of various materials and is used to hide communications. From a constructive point of view, there are several options for such protective panels, which allows you to choose the most suitable product for a particular interior. Screens allow not only to protect pipes from moisture penetration, but also to decorate the room, make it more functional and original.

Today, bath screens are classified into two main groups:

Solid;

sliding.

Solid patterns are the most common and simple. However, the simplicity of the design does not affect its effectiveness. The cladding of such a product, as a rule, is made with the same materials as the rest of the room (for example, tiles). Thanks to this, the panel organically fits into the interior of the bathroom.

Sliding models, in turn, are more functional. The design of such screens allows you to organize shelves under the bathroom for storing household chemicals and other household items. You can buy a sliding-type bath screen in any building hypermarket or profile store. And also it is not difficult to choose and order the product you like via the Internet.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Solid Models

Arrangement of a solid screen in the bathroom allows you to achieve harmony in the interior of the room. The cladding for such a screen can be very different, but most often they use decorative tiles or mosaics. Products faced with mosaics look the most aesthetically pleasing. Let's consider the advantages of solid models in more detail:

  • such a design has a long service life;
  • solid tiled bath screens are easy to clean. To clean the dirt, just use a damp cloth or sponge.

However, such panels also have some disadvantages that you should pay attention to:

  • in some cases, the small size of the viewing window is not enough to carry out repair work under the bathroom;
  • lack of the ability to store household chemicals under the bathroom;
  • in the presence of such a panel, replacing the bowl is accompanied by some difficulties, since the structure will have to be dismantled.

Note! To access the communications that are located under the bath bowl, it is necessary to equip an inspection hatch of sufficient size. If there is such a hatch, there are no problems with the repair of pipes, since the dismantling of the shielding is excluded.

Thus, a solid screen is an excellent solution for a bathroom interior, but its use is associated with some inconveniences.

Bath screens dimensions

Protective panels differ not only in their design, but also in size. There are both standard and non-standard screen models. Today, the minimum length of these products is 105 cm, and the maximum can reach 190 cm.

Consider the dimensions of the most common screens:

  • length - 150, 170 cm;
  • width - from 50 to 56 cm;
  • thickness - 3 mm.

The less common sizes of models are 160, 180 and 190 cm. Shielding of non-standard bathtubs is much more difficult to perform, since it is not always possible to find a suitable product on sale. Bath screens of 150 cm are the most common and easy to install.

Solid panels are equipped with legs, which are necessary for adjusting or adjusting the product. Bath screens 170 cm are also standard and are used much more often than models, the length of which is 180 or 190 cm.

Screen design differences

The construction market offers many varieties of such panels for every taste. They differ in design and functionality. Many companies are engaged in the production of custom-made bath screens, which allows us to say with confidence about a large selection of these products.

Consider the types of such protective panels, depending on the design features:

  • standard;
  • multifunctional;
  • end.

Standard models are the most common and consist of a plastic panel for which a frame of appropriate dimensions is selected. The multifunctional version differs from the standard one in that it has the ability to adjust the size of the screen for the bath (due to the legs). End panels are used to hide only a certain part of the bathroom.

Helpful advice! Today you can find products equipped with various auxiliary elements that are necessary for convenience. These include panels with shelves, handles for people with reduced mobility, and screens that include a leg opening.

Photos of screens for baths can be easily found on the Internet, which greatly simplifies their selection.

Features of plastic models

Plastic shielding options are the most popular today. They are distinguished by their attractive cost, as well as ease of installation and operation. The service life of such panels can be up to 10 years (subject to proper care). Plastic screens are moisture resistant and will not rot over time.

The main advantage of panels made of this material is a variety of colors. This is due to the simplicity of the production of polymer products. The functionality of these screens may also differ. In specialized stores you can buy plastic screens for bathtubs with shelves, sliding, solid, removable, folding, etc.

If you wish, you can perform the shielding yourself. This will require an inexpensive polymer lining. Such a panel does not require additional facing work, which has a positive effect on financial costs. To fix the plastic lining, it is necessary to mount a profile made of wood or metal.

The main disadvantage of plastic screens of any type is poor resistance to mechanical stress (shock). When self-installing a plastic solid screen, you need to take care of organizing the door under the bathtub for quick access to hidden communications. You can make a special door yourself or purchase it at a store.

Acrylic Bath Screens

A popular type of cover plate that is often sold with acrylic bathtubs themselves. Such products are made of plastic material, which is subsequently processed with an acrylic layer. They all differ in individual performance. Therefore, experts do not recommend buying acrylic models separately from baths, since it is almost impossible to find a suitable option.

Acrylic panels are only suitable for installation under bathtubs of the same material. In most cases, these panels are solid, however, other varieties can be found commercially. If it is not possible to purchase a suitable screen for a specific bathtub purchased earlier, it is recommended to buy a custom-made screen for a bathroom.

Note! Acrylic models have the same color scheme as the bathtub, which allows the overall design to look organic.

Of the advantages, it can also be noted that such panels fit snugly against the sides of the bowl. The frame and fixing elements for fixing the panel are supplied to customers complete with the screen itself.

Screens from MDF sheets and mirrors

MDF bath screen is most often used in classic room design, as it has a woody pattern. A wide range of colors and textures allows you to choose a product that will suit any interior. MDF shielding looks stylish and expensive, which often attracts buyers. However, when buying such a screen, you need to pay attention to two important points:

  • products made of this material are suitable only for standard, rectangular baths;
  • MDF screens are made by pressing sawdust, so they are not resistant to moisture. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to choose a moisture-resistant material that is equipped with a protective film.

The demand for mirror models is easy to explain. Most modern bathrooms are small in size, and the mirror surface is able to visually increase the space of the room. These panels also add a play of light. They can be mounted at different angles, as well as equipped with special lighting (for example, neon).

In any case, the mirror screen looks very impressive. However, such panels are not without drawbacks, including: fragility and difficult maintenance. Drops of water and streaks on the mirror surface are much more noticeable than on any others, so you will have to wipe them down quite often.

You can make a do-it-yourself screen from MDF, which will be exactly the same as

Plasterboard bath screen

Panels that are made of plasterboard material are affordable and inexpensive. It is quite simple to organize drywall shielding with your own hands. In most cases, after installing the plasterboard screen, it is faced with ceramic tiles.

Important! To shield the space under the bathroom, you must use a moisture-resistant type of drywall sheet.

Consider the process of installing screens for drywall bathtubs:

  1. First of all, you need to assemble the frame. The material for assembling the frame is a bar with dimensions of 40x40 mm. At this stage, fixing elements and metal corners are installed.
  2. Further, markings are applied to the walls and floor, which is needed for orientation during the installation process.
  3. After applying the markings, the rails are installed along it. The slats are installed both vertically and horizontally.
  4. Further, the front panel is cut out of the plasterboard sheet, on which hinged hinges or latches are installed.
  5. The product is installed and an inspection hole is made in it.

Ceramic screens for bathrooms

Ceramic shielding allows you to organically decorate the sanitary unit. The main advantage of organizing a ceramic protective panel is that it looks as presentable as possible. Ceramic tiles are the main finishing material for arranging plasterboard screens, as well as tongue-and-groove slabs. Ceramic tiles are moisture resistant, easy to clean and resistant to mechanical stress.

Installing a screen under a tile bathroom is quite simple. To carry out the installation, you do not need to have special construction knowledge and skills.

  • first you need to take measurements (width and height of the opening under the bathroom);
  • ceramic tiles are laid from the upper left corner. A very important point is that the laying should be carried out strictly horizontally;
  • each individual tile element must be lubricated with tile glue;
  • the alignment of the ceramic screen consisting of tiles is carried out using special crosses. Such crosses are inserted into the gaps between the tiles and form the same distance for all structural elements;
  • not only solid screens can be tiled with tiles.

Bath screen made of curtain fabric

People who have a rigid bathtub panel are constantly hitting it with their feet. Bathtubs with such panels are inconvenient to wash. Using a curtain solves this problem.

Note! This non-standard solution is only suitable for rooms with good ventilation, since the curtain is not able to protect the pipes from humid air.

Before purchasing a bathtub cover, you need to pay attention to the following points:

  • before purchasing the panel, it is recommended to take measurements of the bathroom and bowl;
  • the choice of product design depends on two factors: the financial capabilities of the buyer and the size of the bathroom. For example, it is not recommended to purchase flip-down models of bathroom screens, the dimensions of which are standard. For small spaces, solid models are best;
  • a model with doors allows not only to protect communications, but also to organize a small warehouse under the bathroom for household chemicals and other items;

  • it is recommended to pay attention to the material from which the panel fittings are made. It is very important that the material has good corrosion resistance;
  • the panel should be freely adjustable, therefore, before purchasing the product, you need to check the legs;
  • the optimal material for the panel frame is aluminum;
  • bathroom screens made of MDF are suitable for rooms equipped with a good ventilation system. Otherwise, due to stagnant moisture, this material can quickly deteriorate.

The design of the panel is selected depending on the individual preferences of the apartment owners. Assembling a bath screen with your own hands will significantly save money.

How to make a do-it-yourself bath screen from drywall and tiles

Before starting the self-assembly of a solid panel, you must prepare the following tools and materials:

  • drywall;
  • building level;
  • facing tiles;
  • grout for facing tiles;
  • grinder, drill, screwdriver;
  • special sealing compound.

Assembling a drywall panel is a common exercise. This is due to the availability of material, financial benefits and ease of execution of the shield. The moisture-resistant drywall used for this purpose has good flexibility, which allows the panel to be made with an irregular shape.

How to make do-it-yourself screens under the bathroom? Consider the sequence of actions:

  1. First, the markup is done. The markings must be applied to the walls and floor, which will eliminate installation errors in the future.

  1. At the second stage, it is necessary to form a frame structure for the panel. The frame can be made of wooden battens or metal profiles. To assemble the frame, you need a drill and a screwdriver.
  2. After the frame is ready, it is necessary to sheathe it with plasterboard sheets. For this, special self-tapping screws for drywall are used.
  3. Further, it is necessary to fill all the seams and joints in the resulting structure with a hermetic composition.
  4. At this stage, the front of the gypsum board is treated with a primer.
  5. At the end, the plasterboard panel is tiled with ceramic tiles.

Helpful advice! Experts recommend treating the frame elements with protective compounds. This is necessary to improve the moisture-resistant qualities of the structure.

Thus, it is not difficult to assemble a panel for a drywall bathroom with your own hands. And the finished screen will dramatically improve the look of your bathroom. If necessary, you can buy screens for a bath in a specialized store or on the Internet.

Mounting a plastic or acrylic screen on a bath

As a rule, instructions are attached to the panel, which must be studied before installing the screen under the bath. For structures that differ only in size, the assembly process will not make much difference. The main differences in this case boil down to the fact that the legs for the shields for a high bath have an additional headroom (about 5 cm).

Let's consider step by step how to install a screen under the bath:

  1. Before starting the installation of this design, it is recommended to fill the bath with water.
  2. It is necessary to install special handles on the outer panel of the screen, which are mounted for ease of use of the structure.
  3. The legs of the product go separately. They must be inserted into the holes located on the bottom of the screen.
  4. Next, you need to get the panel under the bath rim.
  5. After that, the structure must be fixed with auxiliary components.

In some cases, the bathroom differs in that it has protruding communications or a baseboard, the presence of which makes it difficult to completely block the free space under the bathroom with a shield. How to install a screen under the bath in such a situation? It is best to measure the parameters of the protruding elements and make a corresponding hole in the screen. Then the screen will not bump into the protruding element of the plumbing unit. Of course, you can remodel the bathroom, but this more time-consuming and expensive event is not suitable for everyone.

How to install a screen on an acrylic bathtub?

To install the screen on an acrylic bathtub, you must adhere to the following work algorithm:

  1. First of all, you need to carry out the markings on the side and the screen. The markings must correspond to the anchor points.
  2. At the next stage, you need to attach the shield to the bathtub at a certain angle of 30-40 ° and bring its top between the side and the mount.
  3. Further, the previously marked places on the side and shield are drilled for screws.
  4. At the end, the holes, which must match, are fixed with self-tapping screws.

Screens for acrylic bathtubs have good resistance to moisture and also have a long shelf life. Experts recommend that you carefully study the instructions before installing such a protective panel. The instructions describe all the necessary nuances of installation.

Video of installing the screen on an acrylic bath

Baths can be of various sizes and methods of execution. But one thing in them remains unchanged - the space under the bowl. The design looks great without any modifications, but most products require a screen to cover the space under the bathtub. These screens are of various designs and types. What types are there and what is the best choice for your bathroom? This will be discussed in the article.

Do I need a screen

The screen is not a module without which the bath cannot function. But its presence is desirable, since it completely covers the space from its side to the floor, which gives the entire structure a complete and attractive look. There are practically no restrictions on what material the screen will be made of. In its place, it performs two main functions:

  • decorative;
  • protective.

About decorative was mentioned above. It is also a practical side. The fact is that the space under the bathroom can be used as a place to store various containers with household chemicals. The screen in this case will make them invisible to prying eyes. In addition, this approach will save space on the shelves in the bathroom. In this case, the bath screen must be specially designed for easy access. The protective function of this design is to reduce the ingress of moisture under the bath. If this is not done, then corrosion can begin to harm steel or steel elements, which even acrylic bathtubs have.

Varieties of construction

All screen types can be divided into three broad categories:

  • stationary;
  • removable;
  • sliding.

Stationary ones perform a decorative and protective function. At the same time, they can be dismantled, but this is quite difficult to do. The removable version of the screen is a panel that has latches and a simple mechanism through which the panels can be removed. Such products are suitable in cases where something will be stored under the bathroom that is not often used. Sliding screens are inferior to the first and second options in terms of appearance, but they win in practicality, since at any time you can open the door and get the required item from under the bath.

The profile on which the screen is mounted also differs. He might be:

  • standard;
  • multifunctional;
  • end.

The standard version of the profile belongs to the first group, which was mentioned above. It is a plastic construction that has a marbled finish. The purpose of the profile is to fix stationary panels. The multifunctional profile is a combination of several materials. The frame can be made of aluminum, and plastic or other sliding doors are attached to it. Some types of profiles are supplied with a system that makes it possible to install storage drawers under the bathroom. The purpose of the end profiles becomes clear from the name. They can also be multifunctional, making it easy to build a folding storage box.

Available materials

The material options that are used to make screens are not limited by anything. It is easy to find among them:

  • plastic;
  • metal;
  • wood;
  • glass;
  • stone.

Each of the options has its own pros and cons, so it's important to weigh them before buying.

Plastic

This material is most often found in the manufacture of screens. The advantages of this option are:

  • light weight;
  • ease of cleaning;
  • moisture resistance;
  • wide range of colors;
  • long service life;
  • low price.

Plastic bathroom screen panels are the lightest in their class. This makes them easy to install. It is quite simple to carry out it, even without outside help. Plastic products are easy to clean. The surface of the screen is smooth, so dirt does not stick into the material. The main indicator for the material that will be used in the bathroom is moisture resistance. The plastic is absolutely neutral to water, so the service life is unlimited. Plastic screens are presented in a wide range, so there will be no problems with the selection of material for the bathroom. Along with all this, the price of the products is democratic.

Among the shortcomings, it is worth highlighting:

  • comparative fragility;
  • the possibility of loss of appearance;
  • not compatible with some finishes.

Plastic screens are quite fragile. If you exert a significant mechanical effect on them, then they can simply burst. If a white plastic screen is being installed, then there is a possibility that over time it will turn yellow and it will be impossible to correct the situation. This applies to cheap screen options. Plastic products are not always easy to combine with some types of tiles, because the design looks cheap against its background.

Metal

Structures of this type look more solid than the previous version. The frame and walls of the product are most often made of aluminum. The advantages of this solution are:

  • corrosion resistance;
  • long service life;
  • pleasant appearance;
  • light weight;
  • high strength.

This option will last for several decades and, if handled correctly, will simply get bored, but the structure will remain intact. Aluminum has a protective oxide film that prevents it from interacting with chemicals and water. Aluminum products are lightweight, so there are no difficulties when installing them on plastic baths. The downside of such a solution can only be the price or incompatibility with a certain type of finish.

Wood and MDF

The most affordable are MDF screens. It is a type of fiberboard used in decoration and furniture making. Such constructions have their advantages:

  • wide range of;
  • no need for special care;
  • various design options.

MDF panels have a wide range of shapes and colors; it is easy to choose a design according to your own drawing to order. This type of panel does not require any special maintenance. It is enough to wipe them from streaks and streaks. Designs can be very diverse, including pull-out or folding drawers and doors. The main disadvantage of this design is its short service life. It is caused by instability to moisture. Because of it, the material is deformed and becomes unusable.

Wooden backboards for the bathroom are also used.They can be made by yourself or to order. This design option goes well with the interior, which has natural finishing materials. The color and shape are selected depending on the needs. At the same time, there are processing requirements so that such a structure will last as long as possible. It is advisable to cover it with several layers of yacht varnish, which stands out for its special resistance to water.

Glass

Glass screens have a pleasant appearance and a long service life. They are quite fragile, but tempered glass can be purchased. Glass can be frosted, patterned or mirrored. The latter option allows you to visually expand the space of the bathroom. The biggest disadvantage of glass products is their soiling. In the case when the screen is made opening, then in the area of the handles it will always be with fingerprints.

Other options

Bath screens can be made from all kinds of stone and ceramics. In the first case, a natural stone or certain types of artificial stone is used for the screen. In this case, the frame turns out to be quite heavy, so it is made self-supporting, and a bath is inserted into the middle. In this case, the bathroom finish must match the selected stone. To prevent the material from absorbing moisture, it is treated with varnish or other hydrophobic substance. Ceramic screens are most often made by placing tiles on an installed frame. The advantage of this solution is a harmonious combination with the overall interior.

DIY screen

It is easy to make a bathroom screen yourself and there is no need for specific skills. Constructions made of:

  • bricks;
  • drywall.

The first version of the screen will require an effort in the delivery of heavy building material to the job site. First, it is necessary to calculate to what depth the brick should be sunk in relation to the edge of the bath. This is done so that later it would be easier to revet it with ceramic tiles. Masonry is done in half or a third of the brick. The second option will be relevant if there is a little space under the bathroom. You can partially align the masonry plane with a mortar, so there is no need to worry about the differences. The latter is prepared from sand and cement in a ratio of 1 to 3. After complete drying, you can proceed to tiling.

The next option is, in a sense, more difficult and easier to install. Buying a profile for the frame and drywall for the screen will cost less than a brick. In this case, it is necessary to correctly calculate the amount of material. The frame will require an upper and lower plank. Their length should be equal to the perimeter of the bath without one long side. Vertical screen stands are mounted every 50 cm. Their height will depend on the total screen height. The amount of drywall that will be needed to build a bathroom screen is equal to the area of each of the rectangles, which is formed from the height of the bath, its length or width.

The first step is to fix the vertical slats to the wall. To do this, you need a hammer drill, self-tapping screws, dowels and a screwdriver. In the same way, the lower plank is attached to the floor. After that, the upper and vertical strips are mounted simultaneously. They can be fastened together with small self-tapping screws with a drill or a special tool for the profile. After that, the drywall is cut to fit the side of the screen and screwed on. The joints are closed with tape and putty. Finishing can be done with tiles, for example. For such a project, it is necessary to purchase moisture-resistant drywall. You can clearly see the process of constructing the screen in the video below.

Note! A plastic lining is suitable as a screen. For this, a plastic or aluminum frame is mounted into which the lining strips are inserted.
