It is logical to assume that the words "two-field" and "one-field" are based on the root, which leads to the word canvas. Therefore, the doors must differ in the number of sheets. But there are certainly other design features of the door leaf, which will not be superfluous to get acquainted with.

This is a design with only one sash. In the domestic market, single-door doors are most in demand as an option for an interior door, as well as an option for an entrance door. Such structures are designed for installation in an opening, the size of which is no more than a standard one, that is, no more than 0.9 m.

If the room has a larger opening, then the option with a double door will be preferable. The doors are two meters high. Thanks to this, you can close the standard opening in the apartment. It happens that the owners want to add impressiveness to the doorway, power, then a double or double door is used.

A modern double door is

This type of construction is more massive. To create it, two canvases are used, and each differs in its width, usually it is equal to 150-160 cm. This makes it possible to close a wider opening, and also allows the opening to look more luxurious.

Types of double doors:

  • Equal doors... Their valves are identical in size, they are usually located symmetrically to each other.
  • Unequal doors... In this case, one part is wider than the other. And the width of the opening is more than 140 cm.
  • One and a half doors... One sash looks like a standard sheet, and the other is only half of such a sheet. It turns out that the passage closes to a convenient width, and if necessary, the half-fixed canvas can be opened.

Double doors have many advantages over single doors. Through the opening, a large passability is provided. Therefore, such doors are used in offices, shops, hotels. It looks more massive and more luxurious. When both doors swing open, you can free the opening and temporarily combine two rooms. For example, living room and hallway, or living room and kitchen.

How to choose interior double doors

First of all, the dimensions of the doorway are estimated. If we are talking about standard apartment openings, then you can install a single-floor door, but when the dimensions of the opening are more than 90 cm, then you need a two-door structure, or at least a one-and-a-half door. In private houses, double doors are considered more preferable.

Two types of door designs:

  • Swing... This is the name of ordinary hinged doors, so that the canvas moves, you need additional free space.
  • Sliding... This is the name of the compartment-type models, which are more suitable for openings with a width of 120 cm (and this is true for a single door, and for all variants of double doors). The constructions "accordion" and "book" are also referred to here.

Of considerable importance is the material from which the doors themselves are made. In the classic version, swing wooden structures with or without stained-glass windows are usually preferable. For the Art Nouveau style, plastic, glass, MDF are more characteristic.

Double-deck structures, as mentioned above, can be made from different materials - this is an array, and chipboard, and MDF, and metal, and glass, and plastic. But regarding the design of the sash of such doors can be convex paneled, deaf smooth, massive and type-setting. When it comes to typesetting design, they can combine two or more types of materials.

For inserts, a variety of materials are used, differing in configuration, sizes, colors. It can be glass or a mirror.

Bivalve blocks can be:

  • With arched vaults;
  • Rectangular, with clear corners;
  • Non-standard shape.

Two-floor structures have many advantages. They are often equipped with pendulum systems. This means the possibility of easy swinging in two directions, which will make the operation more comfortable. Blocks can be decorated in different ways, and the canvases of the same system are often decorated in different styles, and also differ in functionality.

Decorative coating for doors

The panel door, as the most preferred option, has a flat surface. It can be pasted over with veneer or laminated after production. To create frame-frame doors, already refined material is used. In this case, only natural wood can be tinted or painted after the door has been made, and no other decor is required for natural wood.

If the door is from a budget series, then the decorative coating can be laminate or PVC film. If a more expensive model is chosen, then it is a natural wood veneer or its alternative is an eco-veneer. Naturally, the coating is both environmentally friendly and more interesting in appearance, but its cost is also high.

Recently, doors with an eco-veneer coating have been especially popular. Eco-veneer is made in a composite way, the basis is wood fibers that are connected with polypropylene. This coating mimics the texture of natural wood as accurately as possible. Such doors made of eco-veneer can be either single-leaf or double-leaf.

Choosing the right doors (video)

Double doors are a more interesting option, preferable for large rooms and buildings with high traffic. Very often, such doors are placed in the living room, thereby indicating that this room is the main one in the house.

The main distinguishing feature of double doors is the structure consisting of two leaves. For their production, a steel profile with high strength and resistance to burglary is used. The sash can be operated simultaneously, while both they and the box itself can have different dimensions. The most widespread is a double door, in which one sash is large and acts as the main one, the other is fixed with a latch and is used as needed, for example, to take out large furniture.

Applications

Such iron doors are most often found in public premises, in production facilities, as well as in entrances and corridors with high traffic. Their use is rational in educational institutions and clinics.

The classic version is produced in the form of a structure of three elements: sash and box. Fireproof and thermal insulation characteristics are achieved by using steel profiles and other fireproof materials that provide protection against overheating and deformation.

A double metal door is installed both in apartment buildings and in commercial premises to increase the safety of being in them. It allows you to quickly evacuate residents and at the same time reduces the rate of spread of fire.

Finishing

Previously, the external design was limited to a metal faceless canvas, suitable only for industrial premises. Currently in the assortment of shops there are various options coated with powder paint. Nitro enamel not only protects the surface from corrosion, but also gives it an original look. There are also models complemented by materials such as MDF and laminate. double-leafed ones can have decorative forged elements, they can be made with or without glazing.

The main task of such structures is to prevent the spread of fire to other rooms, thanks to which people can freely get out of the building on fire. Other features worth noting include:

  • resistance to deformation changes and impact damage;
  • in the event of a fire, there is no possibility of a sharp increase in the temperature level in adjacent rooms;
  • significant reduction in the amount of passing smoke and burning;
  • fire resistance.

Now iron doors, the average cost of which is in the range of 15-20 thousand rubles, have become widespread due to the many advantages and high decorative characteristics. Despite the variety of options, the choice does not cause any particular difficulties, and easy installation should also be noted, for which minimum relevant skills and knowledge of the stages of work are required. Difficulties can arise with the installation of a mortise lock, since for this you need to be very careful.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantage is comfortable operation. The effortless bilateral opening is ensured by a pendulum system. Exterior design will make the room more comfortable and welcoming, while it is presented in an extensive design variety. A double door, the price of which depends on the materials used, is optimal for non-standard openings, while single-leaf doors often have to be made to order.

Such interior doors are not always convenient in small rooms, since in this case their operation is difficult. For a small apartment, sliding options are optimal, featuring a smooth and silent mechanism.

Varieties

Before purchasing, you need to decide on the desired type. There are two main designs - sliding and swing. The canvas can be massive, deaf paneled or glazed. The materials for production are MDF, plastic, wood, glass and aluminum.

Double door: installation rules

Preparing for the installation of the door includes dismantling the old structure, in some cases requiring changes in the location for the future location. can be purchased with the canvas or made by yourself. Its dimensions should correspond to the available space, the width should not exceed the thickness of the walls, if the box does not reach the outer surfaces of the wall, the gaps can be closed using extensions. The height of the opening and structure must also be verified in advance. When buying a hinge, it is important to decide on the suitable opening side, this will prevent difficulties at the final stage of work.

Price

The double door is presented in an extensive price range, the cost is greatly influenced by the material used. Constructions made of fine wood are in the highest segment. Options from MDF and chipboard will cost significantly less. Also, the final price depends on the type of lock and the availability of additional elements.

Economy-class variants have gained quite a lot of popularity, but their availability is achieved by various tricks used by manufacturers to reduce manufacturing costs. A double door of this category has internal voids, which reduces the amount of materials used and, as a result, the cost of the product.

Also, the surface can be treated with artificial turf. Often, a thin top layer of wood is replaced by an artificial veneer, that is, a laminated coating.

Before visiting the showroom of a company selling doors, so that when contacting a manager you do not really "float" in an extraordinary definition, it would be nice to understand the meaning of very frequently encountered terms on your own. A bone of contention for an ordinary client can be quite unusual door names: "single-leaf" and "double-leaf". What is it and what is the difference between these theses?

The difference between the structures is the number of panels (sashes) with which the above door systems are equipped. You can get acquainted with what the door leaf is in our previous publication, but in this one we will analyze the specifics of single-leaf and double-leaf solutions, their disadvantages and advantages, and also consider the conditions for selecting the most optimal option for a living space.

Single leaf door

Single leaf doors

By itself, it is a structure equipped with only one sash. Single-floor systems today are the most popular in the domestic market for similar products both in the form of entrance and quality of internal doors. Designed for installation in openings, the dimensions of which do not go beyond the typical (no more than 0.9 m). If the room has openings of a decent size, then in this case another option is good, the specifics of which will be analyzed a little below.

Double-leaf door and its types

Wooden double-leaf door

A double-leaf door is mainly used for insertion into rather large openings, since it includes two panels at once. The width of any of them reaches one and a half meters. The advantages of installing double doors are understandable, they: allow you to organize a free passage, visually improve the environment in the room. Two-leaf systems have several options that allow you to make good use of the free space of the door opening. Let's indicate their types:

  1. Equal;
  2. Unequal;
  3. One and a half.

In the first version, the dimensions equal the valves coincide, and their placement is symmetrical relative to each other.

In another design, in unequal, the width of one sash exceeds the width of another, and the distance between the jambs of the opening must be at least 1.4 meters.

The third type of double-leaf doors is one and a half... is considered a subspecies of unequal (also 2 pieces) and differs from them only in that one valve is twice the size of the other. The smaller one is generally kept closed and opened only if necessary.

The installation of double doors in the living area is in many cases made at the entrance to the guest room, since it is in this room that countless guests very often gather.

Which is better than a single-leaf door or a double-leaf door?

When choosing a suitable option, it is necessary to take into account specifics of door openings unambiguous premises. If the opening width is more than 90 cm, it is proposed to install a system with either 2 real leaves or one one and a half door system. This limitation is caused, first of all, by the ability to hold the weight load of the structure with typical hinges. With a strong desire, you can install a single-leaf door in a wide opening, but then it will be necessary to stock up on reinforced hinges designed to supply the functioning of a large door mass.

Door type... In a small apartment, or in a small privatized house, it would be better to use swing doors. If the housing has ultra-wide openings, then in this case, the use of sliding systems will be a wonderful selection.

Material... As a rule, there are no restrictions on the material of which single-leaf or double-leaf doors must be composed. You can use structures made of wood, MDF, using lamination technology. Veneered doors will also be an ideal choice, both for living space, as well as for a house outside the city.
