How to make a partition in the form of an arch yourself. Interior arch - an elegant element of the interior

Unlike the usual interior doors, drywall arches look solemn, visually raise the ceilings and expand the space of the apartment. The plasticity of this building material allows you to cut oval reliefs and all kinds of smooth curves from it, which complement the interior so beautifully. A variety of drywall arches, their features and design functions will be discussed later in the article.

Features of drywall arches in the interior

Plasterboard arches are volumetric structures that decorate the openings between rooms in private houses, apartments, cafes, galleries, theaters, educational institutions and temples. They can be of different diameters, narrow or occupying almost the entire wall, simple or unusual shapes.

The base of the arch is a metal frame to which a curved drywall is attached. To shape the material, factory processing is used (production of arched blanks of the GKLA brand), as well as dry and wet bending of initially flat sheets. In the first case, cuts are made, in the second, drywall is impregnated with water, bent and dried in this form under a press.

The positive sides of drywall arches are their aesthetics, ease of installation and low cost (compared to concrete, brick, wood). Among the disadvantages can be noted low resistance to moisture. In some cases, the disadvantage may be that the arched opening in the wall remains open, which means that drafts, extraneous sounds, smells, and light will penetrate through it.

What are the forms

Reminiscent of ancient temples and palaces of the Renaissance, the vaulted passages add sublimity to the interior. They are great for visual zoning of hallways, corridors, stairwells, living rooms, reception rooms. A large number of geometric shapes that can be given to drywall makes it possible to choose the ideal option for any type of interior.

Round plasterboard arches

Round and semicircular arches will harmoniously complement the classical, Greek, Byzantine and Victorian styles. They should be decorated with plaster moldings, golden or silver ornaments, and the side parts should be made in the form of columns. The finish should be solid, white or very close to it.

Rectangular plasterboard arches

Such portals are very similar to doorways. It is a good choice for minimalistic and modern interiors. They can be part of partitions with shelves located on the sides, and, if necessary, even closed with sliding screens.

Elliptical drywall arches

Plasterboard arches, the upper part of which is made in the form of half a horizontal ellipse, are suitable for rooms with low ceilings (from 2.5 m). They fit well into styles such as modern, provence, loft, country - you just need to find the appropriate frame.

Arabic / Oriental drywall arches

The eastern openings are like pointed domes. This type of arches is typical for India, Turkey and all Muslim countries. As an addition, serrated and wavy reliefs, complex miniature patterns in saturated colors are possible.

Drywall trapezoidal arches

Arches with geometric angles look good surrounded by wood and stone, because these materials do not allow smooth curves. They are especially good for country houses, study rooms, pubs and libraries.

Curly drywall arches

Fantasy soft reliefs can be the highlight of an interior made in a futuristic, romantic or playful style. By the way, a drywall arch can not only decorate an opening in the wall, but also perform the function of a decorative frame around a niche.

Finishing plasterboard arches

After shaping the plasterboard arch into the desired shape, applying a base putty and primer, its appearance can be significantly improved with the help of decor. There are a great variety of finishing options, and among them you can choose any that is suitable for the price and aesthetic qualities.

Painting

Alkyd enamel will help to achieve a glossy effect, and water-based and water-dispersible compositions will provide a matte surface.

Painting

You can use stencils to apply drawings to the arch, and if you have artistic talent, you can make them by hand. Techniques and materials in this case are limited only by the imagination of the master.

Stucco and PVC decor

Stucco molding, as well as inexpensive polystyrene foam products in the form of all kinds of shapes and lace will instantly decorate any arch. Due to their low weight, they easily adhere to the plasterboard base.

Wallpaper

Wallpapering is one of the most affordable ways to decorate arched structures. You only need more skill and accuracy than on flat walls - so that the seams are not visible.

Decorative rock

Natural or artificial stone will perfectly frame the opening, giving the interior a luxurious and complete look.

Wood veneer

A unique cut pattern of expensive tree species on a drywall arch will make a simple interior elite with minimal financial costs.

Stained-glass windows, glass, mirrors

Decorative cuts can be filled with translucent or reflective inserts. This design looks sophisticated and creates a beautiful play of rays.

How to make a drywall arch with your own hands

To complete the installation of the arch, you will need the appropriate materials:

- drywall (for beginners it is better to choose an already curved arched (GKLA);
- metal or wood profiles, plywood;
- self-tapping screws, dowels;
- putty, primer.

From the tools, you should prepare measuring instruments (carpentry square, tape measure), a large compass, a pencil, a drywall knife, scissors for cutting metal, a screwdriver, fine-grained sandpaper for polishing the edges, a spatula, personal protective equipment.

Stages of work

1) Design. Based on the parameters of the room, the design idea, it is necessary to find out exactly the dimensions and relief of the future structure.

2) Calculation of materials. It is better to take more drywall and consumables than required. So in case of accidental damage, you can safely continue the installation.

3) Cutting and fastening of profiles. As a result, you should get a kind of frame, suitable in width. They must first be attached to the concrete wall with dowels, and then fixed with self-tapping screws. The optimum distance between the screws is 10-15 cm.

4) Cutting drywall blanks, giving them a curved shape. You can clearly see this process in the video.

5) Sheathing of the frame. The diameter and length of self-tapping screws should be selected depending on the thickness of the sheets. After screwing in, their caps should be flush with the drywall so as not to create unnecessary irregularities.

6) Strengthening the structure. For this, a curved metal profile is attached to the outer edges of the arch.

7) Alignment. At this stage, you need to smooth out the roughness, putty the surface and prepare it for finishing.

Plasterboard arches in the living room

Plasterboard arches in the hallway / corridor

A graceful arch is an architectural element that can make any interior refined and unique. A correctly chosen arch design will allow it to become the dominant point in the interior and to collect the entire space of the apartment into a single whole. This article will tell you how to make a drywall arch without the help of professional builders and unnecessary investments.

Peculiarities

Arched openings appeared in the East. Gradually, the habit of replacing doorways with decorative arches migrated to Europe. This method of decorating interior aisles solves not only the issue of increasing the space of the premises due to the absence of doors in them, but also decorates it, giving the home elegance and style, refreshes the boring interior, introducing an original touch into it.

Having decided to make an arch yourself, you should pay attention to drywall, since this type of material is the easiest to install (after all, serious knowledge and experience is required to form an arched opening from plaster or plaster), is available on the market and is inexpensive.

The main advantages of drywall arches are:

  • light weight of the material (arches can be installed both on load-bearing walls and on not very strong partitions, without fear for the reliability of the structure);
  • quick and easy installation;
  • the quality of the material - soft but durable material allows you to experiment when creating a unique style of space and cut out any fancy shape of the structure;
  • masking property. Plasterboard structures in the form of arches allow you to hide technical units and communications in the room;
  • the ability to separate the functional parts of one room;
  • functionality (drywall openings may have niches for books or recesses for indoor plants).

Views

A classic plasterboard arch is a structure installed between adjacent rooms and supported on the sides by columns. Bypassing the usual drywall option, you can create an original asymmetrical shape that emphasizes the modernity of the interior.

According to the shape of the arch, arched structures are classified into the following main types:

  • Roman. The most common type of arch. Its semicircular vault will be appropriate in any interior;
  • square or portal. They make out wide openings;
  • trapezoidal. Also often used in the design of wide openings;
  • ellipsoidal. This view is similar to the classic design, but with a large radius of curvature at the corners;

  • gothic. Has an ovoid arch with a pointed apex;
  • Turkish. Fancy design in oriental style;
  • British. This type is characterized by strict forms. Emphasize the sophistication of any room;
  • Thai or semi-arch. Asymmetrical vault: on one side, a classic arch, on the other, a portal-like arch.

Modern designers, taking advantage of the excellent property of the material, make completely original solutions. Interior arches are complemented with original lighting and LED lamps. These elements often play not only a decorative role, but also create additional local lighting in the apartment.

In addition to lamps, there is another design technique that adds useful properties to the usual arched opening: the design of shelves and niches both inside the structure and on its external sides. This idea helps to create additional coziness, because souvenirs and family photos can be perfectly placed on small shelves.

For various premises

Plasterboard arches in a modern interior are not uncommon. This architectural element allows you to abandon the usual doors, while creating a finished look of the doorway.

In small apartments, there is often not enough room for open doors. For this reason, instead of a door, a beautiful and laconic arch is mounted in the opening. Such arches act as a kind of border between adjacent rooms, where the door used to be, and in fact expand the free space.

The choice in favor of the interior arch is also made when the apartment is planned to be redeveloped. For example, the exit from the kitchen to the balcony or from the living room to the kitchen can be designed in the form of an elegant arched opening. At the same time, it is possible to choose the shape of the opening you like (standard semicircle, trapezoid or other asymmetric shape).

When it comes to expanding the space, it would be useful to think about replacing the doors with an arched opening in the hallway and in the corridor. These rooms serve more for connecting rooms than for a comfortable life in them, so here you should not think about preserving space when abandoning doors.

Often, in order to preserve the overall style in the apartment, all doorways are decorated in the form of the same type of arches. This is not always true, and sometimes it will even overload the interior. But a couple of arched openings of the same shape in the upper part, one of which is complemented by an interestingly cut drywall configuration on the wall - a very stylish approach.

How to choose?

Previously, arches were used to decorate only palaces and houses of wealthy people, but today this element can be found in any average apartment and even in a modern frame house (a wooden arch is cut down at the time of making the frame of the house itself).

When choosing an arch, you need to focus on its functional component. Arches are active and passive. Passive ones are often found in residential buildings and perform the function of a simple transition, connecting two rooms. Their shapes are simple: ovals, portals, or standard rectangles and trapezoids. Active arches suggest more complex shapes and often include additional decorative elements (shelves, lamps).

If a decision is made to replace a boring metal door with an arch with a rounded top, experts recommend choosing a ready-made model, since in this case the question is about the reliability of the structure.

Manufacturing

In order to make a classic arch with your own hands, you need to understand its structure, to understand what are the intricacies of the technology for the construction of this structure.

Curved arcs form the so-called arch arch. It can have a uniform coating or consist of various parts with gaps between them. You can revive the smooth-hemmed version of the arch of the arch using decorative relief, platbands on the edges of the arch.

The top of an arch is called the highest point of its arch. It serves as a structural element. Often the summit is also an aesthetic fragment (for example, in the eastern-type vaults). The wings extend downwards, their ends abut against the supporting structures - benches, which can also be decorated decoratively.

The span of the arch vault is the width of the arc formed by the wings. The height of this arc from the center of the span to the top is called the arrow of the arch. The arched vault usually rests on pilaster semi-columns or goes inside the walls, resting against the spatulas (in this case, this vault is called a hanging vault). The portal is formed by a structure located below the pilasters and blades.

The top, arch vault and portal are the main visible components of the structure. They are called an arched transom. Usually a fragment is drawn up in a single concept. The golden section of the arched structure is determined by the ratio F = (A + B) / B, if B≥A. This ratio in architecture is observed when A = 1/3 B. The arch will have the correct golden ratio if its height is approximately three times the width of the archway, otherwise you can get the effect of reducing the height of the room and spoil the overall interior.

Detailed calculations and assembly are described in the following sections. But in addition to installation work, it is also worth focusing on finishing work: how to arrange and what is the best way to sheathe the arch in order to give it a beautiful look.

The following can be used as decorating materials for decorating the arch:

  • plastic, molding - budget and simple options;
  • polyurethane is a flexible material used to form stucco moldings for pediments, ceilings, cornices;
  • decorative stone - artificial or natural natural mineral. It is most often used when decorating arches in load-bearing walls or monolithic structures.

As far as plastic is concerned, everything is simple here. You can buy ready-made profiles in a store, choose the desired color or paint yourself and put them on glue without much difficulty.

It is rather difficult to make polyurethane decor on your own, so they often resort to buying ready-made decorative elements. Stone cladding is an expensive but sophisticated option. The most commonly used oil shale or shell rock. Acrylic faux stone tiles are lighter in weight and can even be used for plasterboard partitions. As for the texture, here, depending on the interior of the room and personal preferences, raw surfaces and polished mirror versions of the tiles can be used.

How to calculate?

When the task is to independently make an arch, after the shape and size have been selected, the master must first calculate the future product in order to determine the exact dimensions of the parts to be mounted. Do not be alarmed, since the calculations of this design are based on simple school formulas. When carrying out calculations, it is recommended to draw in parallel a sketch of the future product on graph paper, after which the project is scaled to the specified dimensions of the product. As stencils, you can use thick cardboard or a profile sheet of fiberboard. By attaching the template to the surface of the curved vault, you can more realistically assess the accuracy of the previously performed calculations and, if necessary, correct it in time.

This article will consider an approximate calculation of a standard round arched vault for a straight doorway.

The main 3 parameters that should be known to the master are the width of the opening, the height of the future arch and the depth of the wall. There are two main methods of calculation: empirical and mathematical. The master decides for himself which of them will be more convenient for him. The calculation and drawing of the circumference of the arch must be carried out on paper on a scale that is 30% smaller than the real one.

With an empirical calculation, you first need to measure the door opening and transfer it to a sheet of paper. The axis of symmetry of the doorway is drawn. Then they take a compass, put its leg on the axis point and make several different circles. The most suitable one is chosen, and the remaining ones are removed with an elastic band.

When calculating the radius of the arch mathematically, the Pythagorean theorem is used:

R = L2 + (R2 - H2)

R = L2 + (R - H) 2

Transforming the formula, they get the following form:

R2 = L2 + R2 - 2HR + H2

Subtracting R gets:

L2 + H2 - 2HR = 0

After the subsequent transformation, you get:

Radius R in the end:

R = (L2 + H2) / 2H

Where R is the radius of the circle, L is half of the chord of the arc (the size of this chord is equal to the length of the gap of the arch). H - lifting height.

Due to the fact that the arch being produced will include many fragments (for the purpose of their formation, you should take a board with given dimensions), it is necessary to first calculate the dimensions of an element made from a board with the selected dimensions. The calculation is carried out from the opposite. It is necessary to calculate the maximum length of the part, which will be made from the existing board with a certain width, taking into account the already known radius. Using the previous formulas, where all the relationships are already known, you need to derive the following equality:

After the calculation is fully performed and the project is outlined, it will be possible to visually imagine how the structure will look like. If necessary, you can re-measure the parameters of the opening and easily correct the calculations, modify the drawing until its appearance is completely satisfactory to the wizard.

How to cut?

When the project is ready, they begin to scale the product on drywall. Keeping the proportions of the product, the layout of the arch is drawn in the specified parameters. Cut out a piece of drywall to the correct size. To do this, use a special knife along the drawn line and break off the excess pieces of drywall with your hands.

It is necessary to prepare two identical sheets. One of them is placed on a flat surface, a line is drawn through the center. A mark is made 2-3 cm above the bottom of the sheet and a bolt or self-tapping screw is screwed on. A rope is put on the bolt, the free part of which is tightened into a loop and a pencil is inserted into it. This system (similar to a compass) will allow you to draw an even bend line of the radius of the arch. Having determined the desired radius, pull the cord and draw a bend line with a pencil.

After that, on the second sheet of drywall, repeat the markings in the same way. You can, in order to avoid unnecessary actions, by cutting out the blank of the product on one sheet, put it on another sheet and draw a pencil around the contour of the product. Thus, you get two identical blanks. It is best to cut products using special metal scissors, carefully cutting off all unnecessary.

Installation

In order to carry out the installation of a drywall arch in the doorway, you will need:

  • drywall arch blanks;
  • metal profiles;
  • dowels;
  • self-tapping screws of two types: 3.5 × 25 mm; 4.2 x 13 mm;
  • scissors for metal;
  • pliers;
  • screwdriver;
  • puncher;

  • roller with needles;
  • construction tape or level;
  • simple pencil;
  • gypsum putty;
  • sanding paper;
  • wall corners;
  • primer;
  • covering material (optional).

Before you put the frame of the structure, you should prepare the doorway. First you need to remove the door frame and punch the opening up and to the sides to increase the space for the arch. The surfaces of the resulting opening are carefully cleaned, smoothing out rough irregularities, dust and dirt are removed.

It is necessary to follow the step-by-step installation instructions, then the structure of the arch will be securely installed and fixed in the opening. First, in the upper part of the opening with dowels, guides from a metal profile are attached. Similar guides are also installed along the walls of the opening (to the level where the curved parts of the arch end).

After that, a product in the form of an arc is formed from a metal profile. Equidistant cuts are made along the edges of the profile with special scissors for metal and bend the product, focusing on ready-made drywall templates. Similarly, two such curved profiles are formed for each of the sides.

You need to install the curved profile as follows: attach the profile vertically to the guides with dowels, and attach it to the drywall using self-tapping screws. In order to assemble the frame more reliably, several pieces of profile are inserted between the arcs inside the arch.

How to bend?

The next step in the installation of the arch is to secure the arcuate part inside the structure. To do this, take a sheet of drywall. Carefully cut a strip according to the width of the inner space of the arch, longer than its inner surface. When measuring the length, it will not be superfluous to leave a margin of about 10-15 cm.

You can bend drywall using plain water. To do this, moisten the lower part of the drywall strip and pierce it with the roller needles. Next, you need to bend and attach this element inside the arch. This is done with adhesive tape and left to dry for a while. The homemade arch frame is ready.

How to putty properly?

After the arch frame is assembled, all the elements are securely fixed, and the inside is completely dry, you can start processing and external design of the structure.

To begin with, the entire surface of the arch is sanded with special paper, all irregularities are removed, and dust from the sandpaper is removed. The surface of the arch should be smooth. The joints remaining from the installation must be sealed with putty. Before filling the joints, you need to install prepared corner profiles (they give the corners of the arch rigidity and protection from deformation).

These corners can be fixed on top of the putty, but then another layer of putty must be applied on top, aligning all the joints. After the putty dries, the surface is smoothed again with sandpaper. Dust is removed and the entire outer space of the arch is primed. When the soil is dry, they carry out the finishing putty of the structure and grind the irregularities.

How to paint?

When all the dirty work is done, you should move on to the decorative finish.

When choosing a design, one should take into account the general concept of the interior and its style. The fastest and cheapest finishing method is to paint the structure with water-based paint. Such a finish is very practical, because if the wall gets dirty, it can be wiped off with a damp cloth, in addition, the arch will be very resistant to scratches. This type of decoration is also good because, if you wish, you can quickly repaint the arch yourself.

Interior options

Arched vaults occupy a special place among the architectural details when decorating a room. Smooth lines will bring a mood of coziness to any room and emphasize an exquisite style. If a choice is made in favor of complementing the interior with an arch, it is necessary to choose such a design so that the vaulted structure fits organically into the space of the room and serves as a certain highlight in the interior.

Arches look great in rooms with semicircular window openings. The vaulted structures will favorably complement the interior, in which there are doors with a semicircular top. Arched openings are used not only in living rooms and hallways. The kitchen space is also decorated with arches. Here they will serve not only as a decorative element, but also fulfill their functional role (storage systems, niches in the form of arches).

The structure of the arch, decorated with glass shelves, looks authentic in itself. If the area of the room allows, glass weightless shelves can be replaced with massive ones made of stone or wood, plywood. They serve as a great place for souvenirs and photographs.

The light framing of the inner and outer parts of the arch looks interesting. Where there is a lack of light, this will be especially useful. This applies to most corridors and hallways. Designers recommend using non-standard shapes of lamps for this in order to give the room an additional sophistication. When decorating arched openings with light elements, you should not limit yourself, focusing on the material of the arch, because the backlight will look advantageous both with a plasterboard arch and with a wooden structure.

The most harmonious is the arch that has absolute symmetry or even smooth lines in the case of the initial choice of an asymmetrical shape. This arch will suit any interior. If it is worth choosing the shape of an arch for an art nouveau interior, it is worth taking a closer look at curved arches. In a classic interior design, such an arch is not suitable. But here it will be appropriate to look this element with a lot of decor from plaster decorations in the form of columns and intricate curls.

Acre in the form of an ellipse or a wide portal has a strict but noble appearance. It is simple to perform, does not require frequent alterations and is appropriate in any space.

However, the arch in the interior of a modern room is a rather controversial element. Some view the arched vault as a relic of past centuries. Others praise this graceful piece, hoping it will never go out of style.

And since there is no dispute about tastes, you should not immediately abandon this design immediately. Even in the modern world of designers, an arch is not a tasteless outdated fragment of a home if it is combined with the general style of the space. The arch has long become a classic. And only its unsuccessful application can spoil the classics.

Drywall is a versatile material, through the use of which you can quickly and easily divide the space into zones. It is quite often used during redevelopment work. Installation of drywall partitions is not a very time-consuming procedure. Such material is distinguished by good performance characteristics and minimal price indicators.

Options for using drywall in the interior

Drywall is used not only for creating partitions. With its help, you can implement design ideas of any level of complexity.

Photo: plasterboard partition for dividing the space

Through the use of such material, ceiling structures, niches, arches and other decorative elements are created.

The partition can be insulated and soundproofed

In addition, drywall is very actively used for wall decoration. The feasibility of this solution is determined by the absence of the need for preliminary leveling of the surface.

The partition may not be solid, but have niches and shelves for decorative vases, figurines, framed photographs

All defects and irregularities will be reliably hidden behind a sheet of finishing material.

Plasterboard can be used to build an entire dressing room or pantry.

Below are the most popular uses for drywall.

Design option Features of use
Plasterboard ceilings This application of the material is very popular. Plasterboard ceilings are perfectly flat and smooth. Through the use of drywall can be realized. The complex use of stretch ceiling variations allows you to bring any design ideas to life.
Plasterboard partitions Plasterboard partitions are not load-bearing structures, so their thickness can be minimal. Installed for the purpose of zoning the space in the room. The feasibility of this type of installation is determined by the simplicity and minimum cost of work.
Drywall niches The installation of such niches contributes to the creation of a cozy and warm atmosphere in the house. They perform not only decorative but also practical function. you can install a TV, figurines, vases or other decor items.
Drywall arches The implementation of drywall arched structures is quite often used to create an original design pattern in a room. can be completely different. The only limitation is the author's imagination.
Plasterboard wall decoration When using drywall of the room, you can get rid of the need for careful leveling of the surface. The material is able to hide all walls that have irregularities and defects. Before installing the drywall sheet, the crate must first be installed. Without such a design, it will not be possible to achieve a positive result.

What do you need to know when making partitions?

The installation procedure for plasterboard partitions is carried out in two stages. On one of them, it is necessary to resolve the issue regarding the structure of the frame. After that, you should deal with its cladding with preliminary insulation and the implementation of an additional soundproofing layer. The latter actions are carried out when necessary.

Gypsum board is presented in the form of a sheet of gypsum sheet, placed in a cardboard shell. Such a base prevents the gypsum from crumbling, and also prevents it from crumbling and cracking on the surface of the material. Strength characteristics in this context tend to increase.

The advantage of such partitions is the ability to use any materials for finishing the top layer. The final stage of finishing can be resolved by painting, wallpapering or in any other way. You can also resort to using. However, before that, it is recommended to carry out a whole range of measures aimed at the implementation of the putty layer.

Drywall is an environmentally friendly material

The structural features of drywall contribute to the fact that the material passes air well enough. Thanks to this, it is possible to completely avoid the appearance of fungi and mold on the surface. In this case, the service life of the entire structure is significantly increased.

Types of drywall

Important! When using this variation of finishing material in rooms with high humidity and critical temperature fluctuations, it is recommended to use moisture resistant drywall... Otherwise, when exposed to moisture, the sheets will swell and their high performance will be significantly reduced.

Plasterboard partitions can be integral or enclose only a small part of the room. In any case, the effect of space zoning is created. If necessary, the inside of such a partition can be filled with fiberglass, mineral wool or foam. This will have a positive effect on raising walls, ceilings and floors.

Through the use of drywall, you can bring to life various author's ideas and create any drawing in the room. This material variation is used to create functional shelves, practical niches, designer arches and crossbars. Before installing the partition, the batten must first be installed. It is she who will serve as the skeleton of the entire structure.

Cutting plasterboard sheets

Plasterboard sheets are cut using a construction knife with replaceable blades. It is preliminarily recommended to place the material on a solid horizontal base and carry out the appropriate marking. For this, it is quite possible to do with a simple pencil and a ruler. The notch line should be marked on the sheet, taking into account the measurements taken.

Tools and materials

The basis of the entire structure, which is the frame, can be made of metal or wood. In the latter case, care must be taken to pre-treat the surface of the base with special solutions that prevent decay. Impregnations of this type also make the tree more resistant to the negative effects of living microorganisms. All this together can have a positive effect on the overall service life of the structure.

The frame is assembled from two different profile variations. The support profile has a special shape and is characterized by the presence of ribbing. This effect is achieved by pressing. Thanks to it, the level of bending stiffness of the profile is significantly increased.

A guide is attached to the support profile. The connection of these elements allows you to create the basis for the future frame. The procedure for attaching profiles to the frame is carried out by using straight hangers and universal connectors called crab.

Extension of profiles

Ordinary self-tapping screws can be used as connecting elements, and the issue of fixing the frame to the load-bearing wall is most expediently resolved by using plastic dowels. Considering that the thickness of the plasterboard sheet is equivalent to 12.5 mm, dowels and self-tapping screws can perfectly cope with the task and provide the most reliable fastening.

As for the tools that may be needed to resolve this issue, the approximate list of equipment will be as follows:

  • puncher;
  • scissors for metal;
  • screwdriver;
  • plumb line;
  • roulette;
  • knife with replaceable blades;
  • pencil.

By using a screwdriver, individual frame elements can be attached using self-tapping screws. The need for this tool may also arise with drywall sheets.

Drywall Filling Tools

Measuring devices, which are a tape measure and a plumb line, can be useful when carrying out the appropriate marking. A simple pencil is needed to draw the notch line.

Drywall Cutting Tools

Drywall is quite easy to process, so there should not be any special problems with cutting sheets of the required size. This issue can be resolved with a construction knife or using metal scissors.

Stages of work

The technology for carrying out work associated with the installation of a plasterboard partition in the room has its own characteristics. When resolving this issue, it is recommended to adhere to the following sequence of actions:

  1. Carrying out the markup.
  2. Installation of the frame.
  3. Preparation of drywall sheets.
  4. Rear wall installation.
  5. Installation of wiring.
  6. Implementation of a soundproofing layer.
  7. Front wall assembly.

Fastening the frame profiles to the floor

The marking must be started from the floor. After that, the lines are transferred to the walls and ceiling. For maximum accuracy, it may be necessary to use a plumb bob or laser pointer.

Wooden beams are needed for greater structural rigidity

Support profiles must be additionally reinforced with wooden beams, which are placed in the inner part and fastened with self-tapping screws. Vertical supports should be separated from each other at a distance of no more than fifty centimeters. It is necessary to place them strictly perpendicular to the floor. You can monitor compliance with this condition using a corner.

Checking the diagonal

After the crate is ready, you can start preparing the drywall sheets. They are cut with a construction knife with replaceable blades or ordinary metal scissors.

The first sheet of drywall is mounted close to the edge of the wall. Initially, the edges of the material should be secured. The optimal distance between the screws should vary between 10-25 cm. In this case, the fasteners should not stick out of the wall. The caps of the self-tapping screws must be recessed into the drywall sheet.

In the case of the implementation of electrical wiring in such a partition, you must first place the wire in a corrugated pipe. To resolve the issue of sound insulation, it is advisable to resort to the use of rolled mineral wool, fiberglass or foam. Also, do not forget about the need to implement a high-quality ventilation system.

Noise and sound insulating material (mineral wool) is placed inside the frame and sewn up with sheets of gypsum fiber board

After the so-called filling has been installed, you can sew on the second side of the frame. The joints should be tightly sealed with adhesive tape. When performing work on plastering the surface, you can use a plaster mesh. In this case, the surface of the partition will be perfectly flat. The top finishing layer can be in the form of paint or wallpaper.

Many are not satisfied with the standard layout of living quarters. You can change it using partitions. Any material for the partition can be taken. It should be borne in mind that such a heavy material, such as a brick, creates an additional load on the floor panels. The best option is a plasterboard partition in an apartment.

Drywall is a fairly light material, not only in weight, but also in processing and installation. It is very easy to cut it into pieces of the desired size, for fastening there is no need to make additional holes in it, all parts are fastened with ordinary self-tapping screws.

An important role in the choice of material for the partition in favor of drywall is played by its low price. Structures made of this material, unlike bricks, are considered temporary, therefore, prior to their construction, you do not need to obtain permission to redevelop an apartment. This article describes how to make a partition using drywall.

The technology for working with drywall is quite simple, with minimal construction skills, you can build a partition with your own hands without the involvement of hired specialists.

Where to begin

Before starting work, you need to draw up a draft of the future structure, determine the consumption of materials that need to be purchased.

The design of drywall partitions is limited only by the owner's imagination. It can be a strict solid rectilinear wall with or without a door, an arched structure, openings for greater illumination or decorative openings can be present in the partition, the edge of the partition can be made vertical, beveled, or any complex configuration. It all depends on the decision made and the purpose of the partition.

Partitions are often made for zoning the space, that is, not for the entire width or height of the room. In this way, the functional purpose of a part of the room is emphasized. This technique is most effective in apartments with small rooms.

Frame

Drywall sheets cannot be mounted vertically directly to the floor, ceiling or wall. Therefore, a frame is preliminarily constructed, to which the sheet material is then screwed. The frame is made of a special metal profile.

First of all, the base of the future partition is fixed. It is placed on the floor and ceiling in stripes strictly parallel to each other. The edges of the base profile should be on the same vertical line.

Control over this is carried out with the help of a building level, the best result is given by a laser tool. Fasteners are made with self-tapping screws or dowel-nails, depending on the surface material.

A vertical profile with reinforced edges is inserted into the base. The details of the structure are interconnected with self-tapping screws. The distance between the uprights should not exceed 60 cm to ensure the required rigidity.

Door and window openings

If you plan to make partitions with a door, then a horizontal profile must be attached along the height of the upper edge of the door frame. The vertical posts and the horizontal lintel are fixed so that the solid side of the ball profile faces the inside of the opening. It is better not to install the lower base in place of the door, so that later you do not have to make a threshold.

A wooden block is laid inside the profile along the perimeter of the opening along the width of the profile. The door frame will be attached to these bars. To increase the rigidity of the frame in the area of the door, the horizontal lintel must be connected with additional vertical segments to the base on the ceiling.

Its good result is provided by the placement of additional vertical profiles from floor to ceiling next to the main posts of the opening.

The frame for the window opening is arranged in the same way, except that the horizontal lintel is also made along the lower edge of the window frame.

Arched structure

Despite the fact that drywall is a rigid sheet material, a structure with a curved surface can be made from it.

To do this, shallow notches are applied to one side of the sheet. They are moistened with water, and after soaking with moisture, drywall becomes plastic, it can be bent in an arc. It is necessary to fasten the sheet without waiting for it to dry completely in order to avoid cracks.

The frame for the arched opening is made from a standard profile. To bend the profile, cuts are made at its sides with high frequency.

The upper side of the arch is reinforced by fastening one or more vertical posts to the ceiling base.

Cutting and fastening sheets

The dimensions of the sheets almost never coincide with the required dimensions, you have to cut off the excess or add the missing. Cutting off a piece of drywall sheet is extremely simple. To do this, an incision is made along the marked line with a sharp knife, which does not reach the paper layer of the back side. Then the sheet is broken along the notch line and the remaining paper is cut through.

At the joints of the sheets, a chamfer is made, into which part of the plaster mortar will enter. The chamfer is made with a plane at an angle of 45 degrees or with an ordinary knife.

For the reliability of the seams, a reinforcing tape is applied to them. Without such preparation, cracks will form in the plaster at the joints of the sheets.

Drywall is attached to the frame with self-tapping screws with a fine pitch right through the sheet without preliminary holes. Self-tapping screws are spaced evenly at a distance of about 30 cm from each other.

Bulkhead wiring

Often it is required to install sockets, switches and lighting devices on the partition. In the right places in the drywall sheet, holes are made for installation boxes.

Electric cables are laid inside the partition even at the stage of construction of the frame. If necessary, holes are made in the profile for the cable.

Partition finishing

There are several options for finishing a drywall surface:

  • painting;
  • wallpapering;
  • finishing with panels or tiles.

Any of the options requires preliminary preparation of the wall. A mandatory step is surface priming to bind dust on the surface and better adhesion of the putty.

It is necessary to putty drywall to hide installation defects and seal joints. On the finishing putty, paint is applied or wallpaper is pasted. The fixing of panels and tiles is carried out in the same way as on other surfaces.

In conclusion, we present a photo of the plasterboard partitions.

Photo of drywall partitions

As early as the beginning of our era, interesting carved fragments of natural wood began to be used in the ancient Eastern regions to decorate the entrance and internal spaces. The original purpose was to cover an opening in a wall or as a span between beams and columns. Nowadays, their purpose is more likely to decorate or zoning residential and public spaces. Arched interior partitions are made to order from a wide variety of materials, depending on the design style and financial capabilities.

Varieties of interior partitions in the form of an arch

Vaults in the form of an arch are used in apartments, private houses or for the distribution of thematic zones in stores of medium size. There are arched-type interior partitions not only by different types of materials for production and decoration, but also by shape and type.

An interesting classification can be considered the purpose of the active or passive type. Passive assumes a narrower opening with a poor view of the adjacent space, active - on the contrary, opens a panoramic view of the street or an adjacent room.

Name The form Combination of style Peculiarities
Roman classic Has a semicircular shape of regular lines Combines with classic style options: Renaissance, classics, English, in the style of antiquity Most often they are made of stone and natural wood. The color scheme is classic: for wood, the natural color of the wood, in the case of production of plasterboard, white or pastel shades
Rocker The original shape with an arched vault and a smooth transition into the opening This type of construction is also relevant for the classics: English style, any direction, using dark shades of natural wood and stone. It can be Gothic or Italian. In view of the combination with the classics, natural wood or MDF are used with painting in dark shades
Arch "Romantic" This type of vault has roots of the Slavic countries, a unique flat lead-in and pronounced rounded corners. This form looks most impressive when replacing a double-leaf door with a wide opening. The radius can be very diverse, the main thing is to observe the roundness of the corners The most common materials are gas block, foam brick, drywall, natural wood and MDF.
British form Has a pronounced shallow vault Suitable for wide openings and rooms with high ceilings. Visually draws out the adjacent room. It is combined with several styles at once, depending on the color scheme and the purpose of the arch. And it can be exaggerated Gothic, Scandinavian style with dark shades and some kind of special suppressed majesty. And you can play on a completely different side, combining with avant-garde or modern, with neoclassicism. Colors and materials are selected depending on the style. Almost any type of finish is suitable here except plastic
Portal It is one of the simplest and most commonly used construction types. Has a regular rectangle shape To install such an arch, you do not need to carry out any additional wall preparations. Usually such an arch is sold in ready-made sizes. Installed on anchor bolts and foam, sealant in the existing opening in any residential or non-residential premises Active portals, equipped with side parts of a polygonal configuration, through shelves or filled with glass, look original

Arched-type interior partitions to order in Moscow can be inexpensively manufactured in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. The table shows the most popular and well-established options.

The purpose of interior arches

Arches are installed in adjoining rooms, allowing you to create two individual zones in a single space. It is relevant to use an arched-type interior partition in the kitchen, connecting it with an adjacent balcony into one integral space, dividing the hall into a living room and a sleeping area, an entrance hall and a living room. Arches decorated with carved panels or small "curtains" made in one piece structure will perfectly match modern design options.

Of course, the price of automatic swing doors will be higher than that of a custom-made arch, but the partition will completely protect against sounds and noise, heat loss and drafts, while the arch plays an exclusively decorative role.
