Self-made table

To make a serving table with your own hands, drawings can be found in specialized magazines or on the Internet. Consider making a simple model, with two tabletops and a carry handle on one side.

The first step is to prepare the following tools:

  • Circular saw;
  • Drills and drill sets;
  • Screwdriver and screws;
  • Pneumatic hammer;
  • Grinding machine;
  • Brushes;
  • Roulette;
  • Pencil;
  • Protective glasses;
  • Respirator;
  • Gloves.

To make a table on wheels with your own hands, you need to prepare the following materials:

  • Board 50x100 mm - frame;
  • Board 25x100 mm - countertops;
  • Rail 25x50 mm - edging;
  • Paint;
  • Putty;
  • Finishing nails;
  • Wheels.

Important! The lumber must be dry, otherwise the frame will cease to be strong and stable, cracks and gaps will appear in it.

Assembly

The serving table includes the upper and lower bases, which are connected to each other by vertical racks:

  • Using the circular saw, we cut four pieces 860 mm long and four pieces 320 mm long. They will be used as a base.

Important! All workpieces require pretreatment with abrasive paper. After assembly, leveling the surface in some places will not be possible.

  • Using the drawing, we join the boards.
  • We screw two screws into each joint. In this case, the drill should be pre-drilled with a smaller diameter holes. This is done so that the lumber does not split when the screw is screwed in.
  • We fasten the bases using vertical posts.
  • Legs 780 mm high are attached from the outside to the prepared bases.

Important! In order to make the frame more convenient to fasten with screws, you should use clamps.

  • We cut the lumber into twenty planks for tabletops. The length of eighteen of them is 420 mm, two - 320 mm.

Important! To align the boards between the table legs, you need to temporarily fix a board of the same thickness with the help of clamps.

  • We fix ten planks on the upper base using screws or finishing nails.
  • Eight boards are fixed on the lower base, in the middle, and shorter boards are fixed on the sides.
  • We fix the edging on the long sides of the countertops. The slats should be 930 mm long. We use finishing nails for fasteners.
  • We putty the formed recesses and holes.
  • Grinding the sandpaper countertops.
  • Apply a primer to the surface.
  • We paint the resulting table.
  • We fasten the wheels to the screws.

Important! In stores, swivel wheels are presented in a huge assortment. They are distinguished by design, material and construction. The recommended diameter is at least 80 mm.

DIY serving table: step by step instructions

Step 1. Cutting corners

Using a hacksaw for metal, cut the corners for the future table according to the selected dimensions. For convenience, you can fix the corners with a clamp before cutting, and place the hacksaw blade at a slight angle to the plane of the corner (as in the photo).

Note: Uprights can be made in other lengths.

Take short horizontal table parts (corners 53 cm long). At each corner, on one of its plane (side), step back from the opposite ends by 40 mm. Make an incision in these places to the middle of the corner (fold at a 90 degree angle). Having made an incision from each edge of the corner along its rectangular fold, remove the resulting pieces 40x38 mm. This is necessary so that when short and long horizontal parts of the table touch, there are no overlaps, on which the wooden shelf will lie unstable.

Step 2. Assembling the table frame

Assemble the table frame by bolting the long and short horizontal corners to the inner sides of the vertical corners. Do not tighten the nuts at this stage. Under the top shelf (where the tabletop will be attached) screw the connecting plates to the uprights - two for one upright. This will allow the structure to be stable during operation.

Step 3. Aligning the structure

At this stage, check that all corners are square. Measure the diagonals - they must be the same. Now you can tighten the nuts tightly, securing the correct shape of the frame.

Step 4. Fitting the countertops and shelves

Most likely, for a serving table that you plan to make with your own hands, you will not find shelves and countertops of the required sizes in the store. Therefore, you will have to adjust their sizes yourself. To do this, take measurements, draw cutting lines and use a clamp to attach an even rail in the right place. Please note that the staff should not touch the cutting line, but be from it at the same distance as the saw is placed from the edge of the tool. Check everything again. Now make the cuts you want.

Step 5. Rounding the edges

Use a router bit to round the edges of the tabletop. Sand with fine sandpaper. Paint the treated edges with a wood stain of the appropriate color (in this case, walnut).

Note: If you chose unpainted boards for making a serving table with your own hands, you can paint them along with the processed edges at this stage.

Step 6. Fixing the boards

Center the tabletop against the metal frame. Drill holes with a 3 mm drill in the places where you need to screw in the 25 mm screws. Drill and screw in the screws from the underside of the shelves.

Step 7. Fixing the wheels

Make a 2 mm deep and 3.5 cm wide groove in the wheel blocks with a chisel along the long edge of the block (see photo). One side of the corner should be hidden in it so that the bar adheres perfectly to the bottom shelf. Attach the bars to the shelf with 50mm screws. Attach the wheels to the bars.

Step 8. Attaching the slicing board

Step back to the center of the table from two adjacent edges of the table top, 30 cm each. At this point, use a drill bit to drill a hole with a diameter of 90 mm.

Note: Do not discard the sawn-off circle, but screw it on the underside of the cutting board. Slide the sawn-off circle back into place and watch the slicing board rotate around its axis on the tabletop.

Cover all wood surfaces with an impregnation suitable for food contact surfaces.

Step 9. Finishing work

Now is the time to equip your mobile table with some handy accessories. Attach them to the side or bottom of the countertop. In this case, a paper towel holder, a glass holder, a ladle holder, a bottle opener, and two metal towel handles are used. Place a food waste bin under the cut hole in the worktop.

Well, the serving table is ready with your own hands!
