Plasterboard construction niche for TV. Plasterboard TV niche: we create furniture for the hall from a universal material

Today drywall in the home is used to create the most incredible yet practical designs. One of them is a plasterboard niche for a TV.

Almost everyone in the house has a TV and its location in the room is a rather difficult thing. Old and oversized models have become a thing of the past, and they have been replaced by flat-panel LCD TVs. But it can still be difficult to place them correctly in the room. An excellent solution in such a situation is to create a niche in the wall.

A niche for a drywall TV has a number of undeniable advantages:

  • it will improve the design of the room;
  • can replace some elements of furniture. For example, sections of its compartments can be used as shelf;
  • easy to do with your own hands;
  • is integral with the wall structure. Therefore, it is impossible to hit it;
  • in it you can hide the wires of the Internet cable, wires of other equipment, etc.;
  • may contain built-in lighting, which will help in additional lighting of the walls and the adjacent space of the room;
  • there is no need to purchase bulky dressers and cabinets.

This design will be an excellent addition to the interior of the room and will perfectly fit into any room design.

Niche design options

Today, you can create a niche for a drywall TV of any design.
A television niche can be:

  • horizontal or rectangular. They are the most popular, as they allow you to place your TV in the most efficient and practical way. Also, if necessary, an additional shelf can be installed here. With such a design, you can easily increase the functionality and practicality of the walls. Most often used in the design of a wide room;
  • vertical or oval. As the name implies, it has a vertically elongated oval shape. Such a niche can occupy the space of an entire wall - from the floor to the ceiling itself. The structure is equipped with additional shelves. The shelf can be one or more, depending on the size of the niche itself. Its design is the most diverse. These niches look best in a spacious room.

In addition to these types of designs, a television niche can have the following design options:

  • decor niche, built like a wardrobe. Here the TV will be hidden behind a curtain or door;
  • highlighting with color. So it will become a real highlight of the interior of the room;
  • decoration of the structure with illumination;

In addition, the niche can be additionally decorated with colored glass, trimmed with decorative plaster or artificial stone.
Any design option can be easily done by hand. The main thing is to stick to technology.

Niche layout

In order to correctly create a niche design, you will need to draw its diagram. The drawing should be made based on the parameters of your TV.

Drawing option

Remember! If you are designing a niche for a specific TV, then when you buy a new one, it may not fit into an existing structure.

If only a TV will be placed in a niche, then to create a circuit, you just need to measure the length, width and depth of the equipment.
Note! For convenience, the niche should be designed in such a way that your hand can freely go behind the TV.
If a shelf is additionally mounted in it, then its dimensions should also be indicated in the drawing. Also, the diagram should take into account the thickness of the drywall sheets.

Tools and materials required for work

To create a TV niche with your own hands, you will need:

  • drill;
  • spatula;
  • tape measure and pencil;
  • skin for stripping;
  • grinder with a circle for cutting profiles and metal;
  • knife for cutting drywall.

In addition, you will need the following materials:

Necessary materials and tools

  • drywall sheets;
  • putty;
  • primer;
  • profiles;
  • metal beacons;
  • slope corners;
  • screws and dowels.

To create a better design, materials from one company should be used. Today, the best quality products are offered by Knauf, which produces not only gypsum plasterboards, but also finishing materials for them.

The order of work

To improve the design of the room and ideally fit a niche for the TV into it, it is necessary to adhere to a certain sequence of work performed.
The preparatory stage is as follows:

  • choose the location of the future structure;
  • level the working surface with a starting putty;
  • determine the side of the wire supply and install the sockets;
  • lay the wires into the channel and coat it with starter putty. Then connect them to the junction box;
  • mark the wall from the drawing. Wall markings should be carried out using a level to draw all lines evenly;

Marking

  • choose a way to mount the TV. It can be fixed using special fasteners or simply stand on its legs;
  • the depth of the niche itself depends on the choice of fastening. If the TV is flat and stands on a leg, then there will be enough depth of 3-5 cm. Be sure to take into account the presence of wires here. A hand must freely pass behind the TV in order to be able to connect it. Therefore, it is best to make a depth of 8 cm. This is how the niche design will look most successful.

Now you can start installing the frame structure:

  • to the drawn lines we apply the guides of the "UD" profile and cut them into the necessary pieces;
  • we fix them around the entire perimeter of the niche. Remember to cave in the correct distance from the walls to create the correct depth;
  • fasten with self-tapping screws;
  • insert the vertical rack profiles "CD" into the attached profiles. The distance between them should be 60 cm;
  • to mount CD-profiles, to create a more durable structure, you should use "peshkas";
  • then we fix the CD profiles horizontally, but already along the edges of the structure;
  • we also fasten UD profiles around the perimeter.

Finished niche frame

Now you can start installing the plasterboard sheets on the frame. In this case, decorating the walls with your own hands involves the following actions:

  • cut the sheets of gypsum board into the desired pieces according to the parameters of the drawing. It should be cut like this - first we cut the paper on one side of the sheet, then we beat it on the sheet and cut it on the other side;
  • try them on at the place of future fastening. With a perfect fit, the sheets can be attached to the frame;
  • should be fixed with self-tapping screws in the middle of the profile;
  • then we do similar manipulations with the side walls of the niche;
  • for the evenness of the corners of the structure, we insert metal corners;
  • corners and all joints of sheets should be sealed with putty;
  • after it dries, sand all the irregularities and roughness;
  • prime the surface;
  • when the primer is dry, you can make the final putty. We apply a thin layer to obtain a flawlessly smooth surface. If necessary, remove the roughness with sandpaper.

TV niche

Now the entire structure can be finished with decorative stucco molding, artificial stone, or simply painted. The main thing is that its design fits perfectly into design rooms.
As you can see, it is quite possible to make a television niche from drywall on your own.

Recently, many have been trying to hide equipment, mainly television, in the area of the wall. For this, drywall is most often used, which has conquered the construction market.

By creating a drywall niche, you can get an attractive and fashionable appearance, as well as add volume to the room. This is especially true in rooms made in one color: monochrome. Arranging a room with gypsum plasterboard does not require large costs and efforts. Not only is this material easy to work with, it is also strong enough to provide safety for machinery. Often, drywall is used to create partitions and additional walls in the room.

The plasterboard niche for the TV will add comfort to the house and will also become a "highlight" in the interior.

Advantages and disadvantages

Before deciding to create a drywall niche for a TV, you must take into account all the pros and cons of this decision.

The following advantages of these products can be distinguished:

  • ease of manufacture;
  • it is possible to hide wires that spoil the overall picture of the interior;
  • the TV is safe: no one can accidentally touch it or take any action that will negatively affect its work;
  • the design helps to hide the unevenness of the walls;
  • savings: no need to spend additional funds on TV stands and drawers or shelves;
  • you can create designs of various shapes and sizes. It all depends on individual preferences.

Disadvantages:

  • if, over time, a decision is made to replace the TV with a larger one, then the niche may not fit, and you will have to redo it.
  • in case of rearrangement of furniture, the niche will remain in its place. In such a situation, dismantling will be required.

There are not many disadvantages. Re-erection of such a structure, if necessary, does not take much time and effort. First of all, you need to rely on personal preferences and capabilities.

Varieties

Niches can be completely different. The modern interior is distinguished by sometimes incredible design solutions.

It is necessary to avoid two-dimensionality, flatness when decorating rooms. Even a thin LCD TV attached to a wall will not add volume to a room. Often there is a feeling of discomfort due to the unsafe location of the equipment. In this case, special niches are used.

Additionally, shelves are made of plasterboard, serving as a place for storing discs, books, magazines and other things. Shelves can be closed or open. The second option is more decorative.

Backlit elements are also made. Built-in lamps are installed separately on each shelf or along the entire perimeter of the structure. Thus, it serves not only as a decorative element, but also as an additional illumination, which is used as a lamp or night light.

Such a portal can be decorated with a chest of drawers on which there is a frame. It can also fit a TV wall.

Sometimes this design is corner, equipped with an area for storing things.

Shapes and sizes

There are several forms of drywall TV niches. They are oval, horizontal and vertical. Below we will consider each in more detail.

  • Rectangular. This type is often called horizontal. It is a fairly popular design option used in the interior. This is due to the fact that you can additionally place several shelves for storing and organizing space. This option is also popular because a niche of this shape is perfect for both a small room and a large one. The rectangular niche is simple to design and does not require special knowledge and skills. You can easily build it yourself.

  • Vertical. Most often, this design takes place from floor to ceiling. The TV itself is installed in the center, and the rest of the space is occupied by numerous shelves and drawers. This option is not the most popular, because it can only be used in large rooms.

  • Oval niche. It is an original solution. Suitable for large rooms only. The TV is placed in the center of the circle, which gives the room a stylish and modern look.

Regardless of the shape and size of a niche for a TV, you should not highlight it with a dark color. It is best to use light shades. This way, the room will not feel like a hole in the wall. You can choose a shade two or three shades darker than the walls. This will make the room look more voluminous.

The size of the niche can vary. It all depends on its purpose, as well as the size of the TV. The main thing about size is depth. As a rule, it should be 100 mm larger than the size of the TV in each direction. This is due to the fact that it will be easier to install this way and will visually look better.

Before you start making a product with your own hands, you need to make all the necessary drawings and cut out parts, figures from the gypsum board. In the hall, you can make a high-tech niche, and in the kitchen - in a classic one.

How to register?

The design should be approached creatively and in every possible way think about what you want to see in the room as a result. As a rule, the main feature offered by the TV niche is to hide the wires. But there are ways to stylishly design a structure that will give zest and style to the room.

  • Vertical niche. Mainly used for the visual effect of high ceilings. The rest of the space is shelves that can be placed all over the wall. In this case, the TV is in the middle.

  • Horizontal niche. It is used in any room, regardless of its size. Visually, this shape expands the room. Especially if you combine it with low-rise furniture.
  • Plasterboard construction. It resembles an additional wall with massive shelves and a place for a TV. Typically, the shelves are open and used for decoration. For example, various figurines, flowers, photographs and other little things are installed that will simply delight the eye.

  • Using backlighting. This method is quite original and allows you to create a romantic atmosphere in the evening. This solution can be used as additional lighting. It is worth noting that the backlight will be beneficial and beautiful to highlight the items on the shelves. It is important to understand that the light should be directed at the wall or floor, but never at the room. Thus, it will not blind, but will smoothly "creep" around the room. As an unusual design solution, neon multi-colored threads can be used. This will transform the room at night. But if you need a more comfortable shade, choose a warm white, which is considered familiar to the eye. Thanks to the yellowish undertone, a relaxed and homely atmosphere is created, which is indispensable after a hard day at work, when a person wants to relax. If imitation of daylight is needed, then a white lamp with a cold undertone is used for this purpose. In this case, the colors of the objects are not distorted, but the eyes do not completely rest.

  • Niches are often built that are similar to a wardrobe... The TV in this case is located behind a sliding door.

A decorative fireplace can also be installed under the TV, which does not perform any function other than decorative. You can also install an electric fireplace, but it's worth taking care of safety precautions.

For decoration, finishing materials are often used, which are selected depending on preferences. As a rule, the niche is covered with plaster, wall paper or paint. Decorative brick, stone, glass or wood can be used.

  • Wallpaper. They are the cheapest finishing option. Often, for a niche, they use the same wallpaper with which the room is pasted over. In this case, the TV completely merges with the rest of the interior and is masked.
  • Dye. Before using it, putty is required. Thus, the desired texture is given to the drywall. In this case, staining a niche is more of a decorative function.
  • Stone. As a rule, only artificial is used. It is quite easy to handle and lightweight. The main wall on which the TV is mounted is finished with a stone. This solution adds even more volume to the space.

Darker details add depth and a bolder look. But it is advisable not to overdo it with such shades. Otherwise, it can spoil the overall impression of the room. The main thing is the combination of elements with each other. Each element in the interior must be combined with each other. Only in this case it will be possible to create a stylish room.

You should know that the niche will become an integral part of the interior. Therefore, its design should be approached seriously and creatively. It is important to understand that the TV will be at the center of everything. That is why you should avoid too bright and variegated details. Otherwise, the image on the TV screen will blend in with the main wall.

If a niche for a TV is installed in the bedroom, then you should choose warm, gentle and light colors for decoration. This will not feel the congestion of space. As a rule, a small room is allocated for a bedroom. That is why you should make a niche of medium or even small size. In this case, a couple of shelves will be enough as additional storage space.

The symmetrical shape of the TV niche shelves will perfectly match the classic interior. This design option is ideal for a bedroom.

The asymmetrical shape of the shelves is perfect for the Art Nouveau style in the interior. But this applies only to those cases when all the elements in the room are designed in the same style. This option is suitable for large combined rooms. It is most in demand in studio apartments, where there is enough free space for the implementation of bold design solutions.

An excellent decorative element made of plasterboard, which will allow you to neatly place a TV and all the devices required for it, can be called a niche. This design is perfect for those rooms in which there is not a lot of space, but you still want to place all the necessary devices and items in it as efficiently as possible. Another significant advantage of such a product is a TV stand, that is, having made a niche, you can be sure that your TV will hold up securely and is unlikely to fall off somewhere

It is very convenient that a niche for a drywall TV is completely assembled with your own hands, you do not have to resort to the services of specialists, you just need to follow the tips and rules of this article. It is easier to create such products than to build, for example, a common one. Therefore, even a beginner can do this job perfectly. By creating a niche, you will create an ideal place for a TV in your apartment, in addition, you can place everything necessary for its operation nearby.

What is this article about

Choosing a shape and creating a niche design

It is very important for a niche to choose a suitable design that will not only emphasize the features of the product itself, but also organically fit into the interior. Most people find it very difficult to come up with any shape that will differ from an ordinary rectangle. If you are one of them, then you should start by browsing the Internet with similar products, so you can emphasize the main points of design for yourself, highlight any design features in order to ultimately create your own individual product.

If you create, together with a niche, other drywall structures, then it may be better to use the services of a designer who will definitely come up with a single drywall composition that will please you all the time. Our advice, make a few sketches of a niche according to your fantasies, because it can be made not only square or rectangular, but also complex shapes, with height differences and the presence of bends.

Measure the wall where the plasterboard niche will be installed under the TV. You need to know its dimensions and, preferably, the area in order to find the dimensions of the structure almost perfectly. In accordance with the sizes, but without focusing too much on them, make the project a niche. In the project, you need to sketch a niche of the shape that you came up with, but do not forget that the dimensions of the product must also be indicated there.

Also, you have to imagine how the TV will be attached to the support. In the role of the latter, both the wall and the niche itself can act (in this version, you will have to strengthen the bottom of the structure). All additional devices, for example, game consoles and various receivers, amplifiers, will need to be placed side by side, so make sure that there are shelves in the niche for them too.

Work surface marking

The complexity of the markup will depend on where the niche is located. If everything is standard, that is, the niche is on the wall, then the markings will take place only on the surface of this wall. But if the niche is made in the form of a partition, then you will have to make markings also on the ceiling and floor. We will consider the usual arrangement of the structure - on the wall.

As always, the first thing to do is mark the contours of the structure, indicate the places where the niches themselves will be located, that is, the cavities where the TV will be placed. The points of laying the rack-mount profile are also indicated on the wall, in addition, for each profile rail (guide or rack-mount), which is located in this area, you must specify the dimensions. So that later, when you cut the profile, you can immediately measure the length of the rail and make a cut, and not take measurements of the entire marking and frame.

The niche, which is made in the form of a TV stand, that is, the device will directly stand in the recess of the structure, is additionally reinforced with a profile, and instead of drywall, chipboard or plywood is placed on its bottom - this should also be noted during marking. Make sure that all the lines are clearly visible, and the trace from the pencil is held securely, otherwise you can later touch the marked area with the tool, the lines will be erased - you will have to redo everything.

Quite often, the largest TV is placed in the living room, since many people gather there, and the screen should be visible to everyone. But we are talking about the fact that electric fireplaces are also often installed in the living room, which is in perfect harmony with the TV, especially if the perfect opening for the fireplace is made in the niche, that is, exactly according to its size. If you will be making a fireplace in your niche, then make an indication at this point at this stage. In addition, it is better to place the TV on a special suspension that is attached to the wall, so do not forget to mark the place where the suspension is attached, or better - fix it now.

The process of erecting a frame for a niche

The frame will be made of several types of profile, which can be selected in size and thickness specifically for the weight of the structure and the load (in our case, the TV), which it will withstand.

  • Guide profile. This type of profile will be used to connect the frame of the structure to the wall, that is, it will be a link between the base and the product;
  • Rack profile. It is used to erect the entire frame by connecting it to the already installed rails of the guide profile. Using this type of profile, all jumpers and stiffeners in the frame are created;
  • Profile for bends. It already has holes that were made at the factory, so it can be bent immediately without preliminary preparation. But it can be replaced without any problems with a post profile, which is simply notched in the required way.

Before you make a purchase of a profile, it is worth calculating its quantity. An article about calculating the number of profiles for gypsum plasterboard structures will explain in detail the subtleties of this process, we advise you to read. You need to start assembling the frame by installing a guide profile, which is always located at the boundaries of the structure. You need to fix it to the base, and if it is concrete, use a drill and dowels.

The guide profile is cut into parts necessary along the length with metal scissors, after which it is fixed on the wall and, if the niche is made in the form of a partition, on the floor and ceiling too. To give the plasterboard stand for the TV the required area, you need to use the rack profile. The rack profile is fixed between two guide rails using self-tapping screws.

It is necessary to place the rack profile so as to give the structure maximum strength and the desired shape so that it is possible to sheathe this frame with plasterboard sheets, as a result of which it would become exactly what you intended at the planning stage, that is, a niche. The rack profile connects all the guide rails, after which you can start working on those places where there is a bend in the profile.

As mentioned above, you can use both a special profile and an ordinary rack-mountable one. The latter only needs to be cut with scissors every 5–7 centimeters, making an incision on each of the two sides, and the third should be left intact - it will be in direct contact with the drywall.

With such a prepared profile, a bend is made, for example, in the form of a portal in a recess for a TV. Also, this profile creates a transition between parts of the structure in order to obtain a single product as a result. Having finished creating the frame, you can proceed to its sheathing and decorative finishing.

Sheathing the frame with drywall sheets

It is at this stage that a significant disadvantage of the niche manifests itself - this structure, unlike a ceiling or a wall made of plasterboard, has recesses, for which the plasterboard will have to be cut a lot. You'd better use an electric jigsaw for this, so that your hands do not get tired, and the work goes faster. Also, in a niche, especially in a corner one, a lot of seams are created between drywall sheets, so you will have to use more plaster.

So, if the TV is suspended, then start sheathing the area around it. If the TV just stands in a niche, then the first step is to sheathe the area behind it, after which you can proceed to the sheathing of the place where the TV will stand and the adjacent walls in the niche recess. When you have sheathed the recess, then you can go to the front side of the structure, sheathing it. Please do not confuse this sequence when trimming. If you do everything according to these instructions, then the putty will go a little easier, since the seams between the drywall sheets will be hidden by the front sheets of the gypsum board.

It is possible to bend drywall for some sections of the frame as follows: make cuts on the gypsum board sheet every 6-8 centimeters and break the sheet along them, after which it can be fixed on the frame.

It is necessary to finish the work by strengthening the corners and further filling the product. We hope that now you will not be wondering how to hang a TV on a drywall wall or how to make a niche for a TV, because in the article we explained this in detail and quite simply. Easy work for you and high-quality results!

Hiding the TV in the wall partially or completely will be a good solution, especially if there is already a system of shelves, niches, or a false wall that hides communications. We propose to consider the main options for hidden installation of household appliances and instructions for their implementation. Let's talk about how to make a niche for a TV out of drywall with your own hands.

Design problem: how to fit the equipment into the interior

Many are familiar with the Yugoslav walls with a niche for installing a TV or an aquarium. Televisions of that era, unlike modern panels, were massive, oversized and could only be hidden in a furniture cavity of the appropriate depth. Despite the fact that today the recess in the wall for the TV is more of a decorative than a functional purpose, both the design side of the process and the design side require close attention.

On the vastness of the world wide web, you can find countless images of concepts, but it is one thing to create a visual design, and quite another to complete its technically correct implementation. In the simplest version, a classic niche is proposed, the back wall of which is either a load-bearing wall with a minimum layer of finishing, or a plasterboard surface with a minimum, again, offset from the rough plane.

A niche with a duration from ceiling to floor is otherwise called a portal and has a slightly different construction scheme. Such designs allow the idea to be realized even when the walls do not have a continuous leveling sheathing. At the same time, the portal looks like a completely finished and independent element of the interior.

The portal is flanked by two wide columns. You can choose absolutely any form factor: it does not affect the functionality in any way, but in the end, a niche with a complex configuration may take a significant amount of time for its alignment, smoothing and finishing.

Unlike primitive imitations of rectangular pilasters, more complex columns can have curved front or side faces. It is also possible to radially design the rear plane of the niche, such designs are called exedra, and TVs are rarely installed in them in a hinged way. In a niche or portal, as in the framing columns, an arbitrary number of smaller niches or shelves can be cut in for the installation of a home theater and other equipment or household items.

Mount and load from the TV

Although modern television equipment has become more compact, it has remained rather massive. This must be taken into account when assembling the niche frame in order to reliably strengthen it in the right places.

Typically, TV panels are mounted on hanging brackets at a height of 100-120 cm from the floor. Such an installation does not require the installation of a reinforced shelf, due to which the portal as a whole looks quite light and discreet.

Otherwise, it is possible to use a standard TV stand to install it on a horizontal plane. This option is not very attractive due to the fact that there is almost no way to rip off the TV from the hanging bracket, but with a free installation it is quite easy to overwhelm even a small child.

Mounting the TV panel on a plasterboard wall has certain requirements that relate to both the internal configuration of the structure and the fasteners used. Only one thing can be said with certainty: the TV model and the type of the mounting bracket must be known in advance at the design stage. Depending on the mass of the vehicle, an adequate method of strengthening the rear plane is selected. Someone prefers embedded profiles directly in the place of fastening, others are limited to two-layer reinforced cladding.

Mount the bracket according to the instructions. For reliability, at least four attachment points are used

Of the fasteners for mounting equipment weighing 30 kg or more, a metal dowel "umbrella" and a mount called "Hartmut" are well suited. Note that if there is a brick or concrete wall behind the rear plane of the niche with a minimum offset of the false wall, it is better to fasten it with bolted or chemical anchors. A guarantee of reliability is good, because no one knows how the fastener will behave after several years under various operating conditions.

Assembling the frame

Unlike other popular designs, a niche or a portal for a TV has a special assembly specifics. As in most cases, the frame consists of a main part and bearing shaped elements that have no other function than shaping.

The basic set of profiles for creating a frame of almost any shape. CW and UW profiles are used to form the base, CD and UD to reinforce the planes on which the drywall will be mounted

For curved shapes, it is better to use a special curved profile that can recreate the bend of the correct shape.

The assembly of the main part begins with the installation of the guide profiles. Since niches are rarely performed with a depth of less than 60-70 mm, the most suitable profile size for adequate load capacity is 50 mm. At least four vertical rows of guides are nailed to the rough plane of the wall, or, if the solid cladding has already been made, to the profiles hidden behind the drywall. In the latter case, the section of the wall for the device of the niche should be reinforced with horizontal crossbars every 40-50 cm - to them, the recruited structure is fastened.

All profiles in direct contact with the main wall, floor or ceiling must be glued with a damping tape made of polyethylene foam

At the very bottom of the niche, it is necessary to mount a small podium, which in the plan will protrude beyond the rest of the structure. Its height is purely symbolic - up to 10 cm, and its purpose is to ensure the correct installation of the floor plinth. When using stretch ceilings, a similar design can be useful in the upper part.

For lateral columns, if they are straight, the guide profiles are duplicated in the opposite position to those already fixed on the wall. Fixed length straps are inserted between them to define the depth of the cut. For the smallest niches, the second group of guides is simply put into the first.

If the columns have a curved face, the second row of guides is made with a segmented profile. Before installing it, you need to cut out the side segments of the sheathing, fold the drywall in four layers and walk along the common marking line with a jigsaw. After sewing the sidewalls, a flexible profile is rolled along their edge, in the simplest case it is a self-made "herringbone".

It is a little more difficult to make curved side faces: both groups of guides must be made with a flexible profile, and it is attached to the wall according to the marking line, which, in turn, is formed by tracing a template cut out from the gypsum board with a pencil. It will subsequently be used to sew the front face, but first you need to screw a flexible profile around the perimeter of the seamy side. The fastening of the structure is carried out, as in the general case, on spacers.

Profile connection options. 1. Connection by means of bent "wings". 2. The use of a connecting "crab". 3. Special insert for profile extension. 4. It is best to connect the profile to each other using a cutter

The space between the columns forms a niche that can be divided by a shelf for installation, or have a reinforced back plane. In the first case, the frame is assembled in the same way as for columns: two profile lines connected by jumpers. If the shelf is slightly recessed, a pair of uprights will be required for a more rigid support. It is also necessary to tighten the structure with braces, therefore, loaded shelves are usually sheathed to the very floor, hiding the details of the frame structure.

Reinforcement of the rear wall is performed by the counter-lattice method applied from the rear side of the frame, repeating the step of installing the vertical posts. A 60 mm wide ceiling profile can be used here, but profiles in both directions must be fixed to the wall with straight hangers.

Before stitching the frame, route the power cables for the outlet groups and lighting, television wires and twisted pair cables inside the cavity of the frame. If the conductors used are not self-supporting or armored, they must be wrapped in a corrugated sheath. The loop of wires should not be attached to the frame - only to the wall, while at the exit point the wire is folded into a loop and laid in such a way that it can be easily reached through the hole for the socket installation box.

Niche trim and trim

In conclusion, a few words about finishing. The cladding has no special specifics, all work is carried out by analogy with the installation of multi-level ceilings or arches. Drywall for curved surfaces must be prepared by soaking or making cuts on the outside of the bend.

In the case of television niches, the requirements for the protection of joints and corners are the most stringent. General structural reinforcement with nonwoven fiberglass webs is also encouraged. Choose a paint with a pronounced antistatic effect from the options for finishing the internal cavities. For practical reasons, it is better to cover horizontal shelves of any size with thin glass of the appropriate size.

A drywall niche is a great idea for a living room, bedroom, or kitchen. This design solution has a lot of variations and manufacturing methods. Even inexperienced craftsmen will be able to build a niche that can refine the existing interior and emphasize its colors and materials favorably.

Features and Benefits

A homemade plasterboard TV niche (GKL) can be both spectacular and functional. You can determine the size, number of compartments, color and shape yourself, linking all interior elements together in this way. Inside, you can easily hide the wires, and additional lighting will add the necessary accents.

The advantages of such a solution are as follows:

  • a similar niche in almost any design will cost less than custom-made cabinet furniture;
  • installation does not take much time even for a novice builder;
  • with proper design, the niche will look expensive and neat;
  • a decorative recess will protect the TV from falling;
  • a niche replaces hinged shelves, bulky cabinets and stands that eat up a lot of space;
  • ideal for zoning space without the use of partitions or large cabinets;
  • in addition to a TV, you can mount an acoustic system in a niche, getting a full-fledged home theater;
  • noise insulation is an additional bonus to all the existing pluses.

This design has a drawback, but perhaps only one: visually, the room looks smaller.

However, plasterboard niches are often installed in the middle of the room just for the purpose of dividing the space.

Models

Among the many popular forms of TV niches, the most popular are three.

  • Wall. Looks like a full-fledged wall with TV recesses and decorative elements.
  • Fireplace. A decorative fireplace is placed under the TV, which can be decorated with additional lighting for greater comfort. The fireplace can also function as a chest of drawers under the TV.
  • Window. A multi-level hinged structure creates a kind of portal in the living room.

Lighting plays a very important role in the appearance of the final structure. The safest solution would be spotlights or LED strip. You can achieve a chic effect with neon threads. They are usually placed behind the equipment and around the niche perimeter. With this design, it is worth considering that the light should not be directed into the room, otherwise it will look too bright. The same applies to spot lamps.

The optimal shade of light is warm yellow or white. It is better to turn on neon colors (red, blue, green) only while watching TV.

You can also cut original figures in drywall, creating a kind of frame around the TV. In backlight mode, interesting shadows will appear.

A corner niche also has a place to be, but it assumes a large area of \ u200b \ u200bthe room, otherwise the structure may look bulky.

The TV stand has long lost its relevance, because niches are becoming more and more popular. This is not surprising: ease of installation and manufacture and inexpensive material play a role.

Before starting work, you need to think over the project in terms of the design of the entire room and its dimensions.

Variations in design solutions can be as follows:

  • recess with arcuate elements;
  • square or rectangular depression;
  • a niche with additional shelves for decorative vases, books, columns, etc.
  • backlit niche.

According to the method of positioning in the wall, one can distinguish open (a large ledge in the wall, on the back wall of which the TV is placed) and built-in (the TV does not protrude forward, but is completely built into a niche) recesses.

Quite popular is the design idea in the form of a niche, the design of which takes up the entire space from the ceiling to the floor itself. In this case, you can customize the section of the wall behind the TV, combining it with the color of the walls in the room.

You can also build a decorative niche in the form of a wardrobe, and hide the TV behind a curtain or door.

Often in classic interiors, plasterboard niches for TV are decorated with artificial stone. It is attached to liquid nails or assembly glue. For high-tech style, this solution will not work. Most often, decorative niches in the form of a fireplace are decorated with stone.

It is important to remember that the TV and the fireplace should not visually "press" on each other, that is, they should be of approximately the same dimensions.

The TV itself is sometimes framed. This is a job for professionals from framing shops, but with a strong desire, you can try and do something like that yourself.

An excellent option would be to decorate the wall behind the TV with pictures. Such a solution can be incorporated into any interior, because the choice of frames and the paintings themselves is limited only by imagination. But if there are not enough good ideas for the selection and combination of paintings, there is an easier solution - ready-made vinyl stickers. They can be of any size and shape: in the form of animals, plants, a city model, or just geometric shapes. Here you need to try to find the best option for the design of a particular room.

If you want something unusual and unique, decorate the wall behind the TV with bamboo. Such a canvas in an eco-friendly style will fit into almost any interior.

Often, textiles are also used to decorate niches. It is best to use natural fabrics that match in color with furniture and wallpaper. If construction is the centerpiece of a room's design, contrast will also be appropriate.

Self-production

Making a drywall niche with your own hands is not as difficult as it seems. By following simple instructions step by step, you can manage it in a couple of days. The result is much more pleasant to admire when you know that you have made such beauty without the help of repair specialists.

  • First you need to determine the location of the niche and its size. It is necessary to measure the desired area, make sure that the TV enters there without problems, and make a markup. For greater clarity and understanding of the process, you can draw up drawings. It should not be forgotten that the TV should not enter close, it is better to leave some free space for ventilation and subsequent more convenient cleaning.

  • You don't have to loop over the rectangular notch. The shape can be any - think which one will emphasize the interior more favorably.
  • Further, in accordance with the applied markings, you need to install the guide profiles, securing them with self-tapping screws. Such profiles are made of steel tape and serve as a frame for fastening the gypsum board.
  • Then you can run wires from the TV, the socket and indoor lights, if provided.
  • The next step is to install the drywall. When cutting parts, you need to ensure that the joints coincide with accuracy and that there are no protrusions or indentations anywhere, even small ones.

  • Along the perimeter of the resulting plasterboard sheets, you need to install additional profiles (the same size as those that were installed earlier). This is necessary for additional durability of the product. Using self-tapping screws, we fasten all the parts to the guide profile.
  • It remains to complete the finishing of the niche. This is filling joints, priming, sanding, painting, lighting installation and any other necessary finishing in a particular case.
  • When the finishing work is finished, you can hang the TV. Usually, the kit includes brackets that need to be attached to the drywall with dowels.
  • And, of course, the decor. Candles, decorative figures, vases, flowers, paintings and photographs - it all depends on resourcefulness and imagination.

  • If the room is in a classic style, symmetrical shelves and recesses will look best. This will help the whole composition look more static.
  • Asymmetry will be appropriate in minimalism and hi-tech. Here you can hang the TV off the center of the wall. This option is more often used in rooms divided into zones.
  • It is important even before starting work to decide whether the TV will stand on a stand or hang on the wall. The size of the niche will depend on this.
  • Play with color - if the room is dominated by light tones, then the niche should be darker by several tones, and vice versa.

  • If you have a lot of time and a desire to make your niche original and unique, then a mosaic pattern will be the ideal solution. Such work may take more than one week, but the result will definitely exceed all expectations.
  • Flowering shrubs around the perimeter will become less complex, but no less beautiful decorative elements.
  • When drawing up a drawing and a work plan, for convenience, you can divide the wall equally with a pencil, having outlined the contours of the future niche in advance.

  • There are several types of drywall. For any niche, the first step is to choose a moisture resistant option. The choice of the required thickness should already be based on the shape and dimensions of the niche, as well as the weight of items for decorating the shelves.
  • Some of the wiring can be routed under the skirting board. Modern plastic models just assume this use.
  • It is often more convenient to first completely assemble the frame, and then attach it to the wall.
  • If the niche goes all the way to the floor, then wall mounting rails are probably not enough. From below, all parts of the structure should also be fixed.

  • If the finish includes wallpapering, it is advisable to prime the entire niche with a primer for better adhesion.
  • It is better not to use a wall with a window for the construction of a niche, since it is possible to disrupt the lighting in the room.
  • Even at the planning stage, it is necessary to take into account the location of all outlets, as well as think over which of them will be used and where the electrical wires will run.
  • When calculating the dimensions of a niche, remember that after a while, you may acquire another plasma of a larger size. But even if the new technique does not fit into the existing "framework", this will only become another reason to start a small construction project again and show imagination and ingenuity in a new style.

  • Don't be afraid to use wood for decoration. It will take more time than just painting or putty, but it will add warmth and comfort to the overall picture.
  • If you use pieces of glass or mirrors to decorate a niche, all safety measures must be followed. It is best to use a thick cloth bag (or preferably several) and a hammer for crushing. Make sure that small debris does not spread across the floor after finishing work. It is better not to let pets enter the room during the finishing work.
