Do-it-yourself wooden cover for the well. DIY cover for a well: methods and materials for its manufacture

Since time immemorial, the construction of the well presupposed the presence of a wooden lid-house in the traditional Russian style, which not only protected water from various debris, but also served as a storage place for buckets.

The main purpose of the cover is to protect the well from the ingress of precipitation, dust, and various debris clogging up drinking water.

However, over time, a do-it-yourself cover for a well, created in the shape of a house, has lost its popularity, and more and more often they began to extract water with the help of pumps, pushing buckets into the distant past. Instead of houses, special covers are installed above the wells, which can be easily made with your own hands.

Functional "duties" of the cover

A reliable well cover should perform several functions at once. Its purpose is to prevent debris, dust, precipitation, birds and animals from entering the well. The cover must be firmly fixed to the well and be able to support the weight of children playing on the surface. However, these are not all functions assigned to the cover. Another purpose of the structure is to ensure adequate ventilation of the well. In areas where in the cold season the air temperature drops below -20 ° C, the cover must prevent water from freezing.

Wooden structures for a well

It is very easy to make a cover for a well made of wood, since the wood is easy to process, which means that it is easy to adjust it to the size of the well.

  • 6 wooden blocks measuring 200x300mm;
  • stainless steel;
  • dry hewn boards with grooves;
  • pens;
  • roofing material;
  • hinges;
  • yardstick;
  • nails, screws;
  • hacksaw;
  • dense rubber belt;
  • hammer;
  • screwdrivers.

In choosing the main material, experts recommend opting for oak, birch, pine or aspen.

Before starting the process of assembling the cover, take accurate measurements of the length and width of the well. After that, make a crate from wooden blocks, which in shape will completely repeat the dimensions of the one who created it. The finished crate is sheathed with planks. To obtain a solid structure, additionally reinforce the cover with a wooden beam in the center from the bottom side. Thus, two identical doors are made: the lower and the upper. One of them is installed at the bottom of the workpiece, and the other at the top. In the cold season, to insulate the well, you can put a straw pillow between the covers.

The wood is easy to work with, so the cover will easily fit to the size of the well.

So that lifting the lid does not become a difficult and difficult task, nail or screw handles made of iron or wood to the surface of each of them. Install the handles on the well cover until it is attached to the well.

After the covers are completely ready, they are attached to the well using hinges. You can replace the hinges with a rubber strap, to one end of which a lid is nailed, and the other end is attached to the workpiece.

For the most durable fastening of the lid to the workpiece, along the edges of its upper and lower parts, make a crate of wooden bars or metal corners. They will hold the cover elements.

For aesthetics, the lid can be varnished or painted. It is worth performing the procedure before fastening to a belt or hinges.

Stages of installing a PCB cover

If you built a well with your own hands, then the cover for it can be made on the basis of PCB, which is a very durable, but easy-to-process material. To work you will need:

  • textolite;
  • metal corners;
  • sealant;
  • shaped pipes;
  • hinges, handles;
  • concrete;
  • welding machine;
  • screws, bolts;
  • hammer, screwdrivers;
  • Bulgarian;
  • yardstick.

Textolite is a durable material that is not inferior in strength to metal. It can be easily processed with special tools.

As with the wooden lid, measure your dimensions. Based on the data obtained, cut the metal corners at an angle of 45 °. As a result, you will get 4 segments, from which it is necessary to obtain a metal quadrangle by welding. In order for the frame to gain strength, grab the corners by welding from the outside and inside. Clean the traces from the welding machine with a grinder.

At the next stage, profile pipes are cut. The length of the pipes should be 1 cm less than the length of the corners. Insert the pipe sections along the perimeter of the base into the metal frame and weld to it using a welding machine. Process the resulting seams from welding with a grinder.

Make two plates from the PCB, the dimensions of which will correspond to the dimensions of the frame. Install insulation between the obtained PCB sheets, then fasten them together using self-tapping screws, and cover the seams with a layer of sealant. The result is a lid, which must be connected to the frame using ordinary hinges. To install the hinges, you can use the welding or bolting method. To install the cover from the boards, form a formwork on the well and cement it. After installing the frame with the lid, cover the surface with a layer of concrete or cement. For ease of use, screw the handle onto the cover.

The source of water in a country house or in a country house is often a well. But if it is not protected from external factors, then as a result, you can get a number of problems with the functioning of this structure. In the old days, the cover for the well with their own hands was made in the form of a very attractive decorative house made of wood. Today, different materials are in use, from which this protective element can be made.

Main functions, materials used

It would seem that the main and only task of the cover is to provide protection against debris getting inside the well: leaves, household waste - pollution is carried away by the wind, which is usually very strong in open space. But that's not all, because there are other functions, the implementation of which allows you to use water all year round without unnecessary difficulties, namely:

  • providing protection from direct sunlight, which is more conducive to the growth of algae at the bottom of the well;
  • thermal insulation of the structure, without which the liquid will instantly freeze in winter, and as a result, not only the owner will suffer, who will lose a source of water, but also pumping equipment that is too exposed to low temperatures;
  • provision of ventilation;
  • protection from small children playing on the site, as well as from birds and animals;
  • decorative function, because the opportunity is often used to complete all buildings on the site in the same style.

The materials that are used today for the manufacture of the cover are: metal; the same tree as in former times; plastic; plywood.

Tip: To enhance the heat-insulating properties of the lid, you can use insulation, for example, expanded polystyrene.

The main types of structures:

  • wooden cover;
  • on a metal frame with PCB;
  • plastic cover (usually purchased off-the-shelf);
  • based on plywood;
  • reinforced concrete.
Cover for a well - a photo of a finished version of wood

In addition to differences in material, the well cover is made by hand, taking into account some design features:

  1. Round or square design.
  2. Removable covers and hinged elements.

Wooden cover

One of the significant advantages is the simplicity of the device. The material is quite lightweight, easy to install. However, this option will last 5 years at best, but this is subject to competent processing with paints and varnishes. The most suitable wood: alder, oak, linden, birch, and the recommended size of the main board: 20x150 mm (thickness, width), in addition, you will need 40x40 mm bars.

In the manufacture of such a cover, a sealant, varnish or stain is used, fasteners (nails, bolts), handles are also required for the convenience of opening the well cover.

The length of the planks always corresponds to the dimensions of the well. Next, you need to adhere to the following scheme:

  • a tree is stuffed on top of two parallel bars, the material is placed as tightly as possible;
  • from the seamy side, to give greater rigidity, it is recommended to nail another bar, placing it diagonally;
  • the canvas is processed: polished, chamfers are knocked off, if necessary, the shield is made in a round shape (by means of a grinder);
  • all existing cover gaps must be sealed with a sealant;
  • at the final stage, the structure is varnished.

For ease of use, the lid is attached to one or more handles on top of a wooden canvas. If necessary a variant with a hinged sash can be produced... In this case, the main work is repeated. Again, if desired, an additional layer of thermal insulation is provided, for which an insulation - EPS (extruded polystyrene foam) is attached from the seamy side of the lid. Also, a metal sheet can be laid on top of such a structure.

In this case, 2 shields are made for the cover: one large with a pre-prepared hole for the sash and the second, small, which will be the sash and is attached to the first on hinges

Combined option - metal and textolite

Such a cover for a well, made by hand, requires much more effort, since you will have to use a welding machine, a grinder to process the seams, make a concrete screed of the fixed part at the top of the well. The movable structure is made of metal elements - rectangular pipes, and textolite is also used.

The sequence of actions is as follows:

Now a little more detail on how to make the cover for the well yourself, or rather, its lower part. For this, in accordance with the dimensions of the finished frame, formwork is prepared around the head of the well. On top of the wooden structure, the lower part of the frame is attached from the corners. Along the very edge of the well head, a metal tape should be installed, trying to give it a rounded shape. The concrete mixture is poured into the created empty space between the formwork and the tape.

At the end of these works and after the resulting structure has completely frozen and settled down, you can fix the frame from shaped pipes and textolite. This is done with two loops. The handle is attached from the outside by means of bolts. The final step is to apply the enamel to the metal parts in two layers.

Reinforced concrete structure

This is the most time consuming option available. To implement it, a do-it-yourself cover for a well is cast from a concrete mixture - step-by-step instructions for work are presented below:

  1. In accordance with the size of the well rings, a hole is dug in the soil 10 cm deep, which determines the thickness of the structure. The bottom is covered with polyethylene. Usually, a movable opening sash is assumed in the middle, for which a smaller formwork is built in the central part of the pit.
  2. The first layer of concrete mix is poured no more than 5 cm in height.
  3. Next, the reinforcing mesh is laid.
  4. The solution is poured on top to the edges of the pit.
  5. After waiting a few days (3-4) until the cover has completely solidified, you can install it on the well ring, after removing the film.
  6. Seams must be sealed between the well and the reinforced concrete structure with cement mortar.
  7. In place of the window in the concrete cover, a sash made of metal, wood, plastic is installed, depending on preferences.
... This device will significantly increase the efficiency of work.

All of the described cover options have their pros and cons. When choosing a suitable solution, you should take into account your capabilities, the availability of free time for its implementation, the degree of convenience in operating the structure and the duration of its service life. The wooden lid is most susceptible to weather conditions, however, it is this option that looks the most attractive outwardly when properly treated with paints and varnishes.

Another option for how you can make your own cover for a well is shown in the video.

(19 estimates, average: 4,37 out of 5)

The well is the most important component of a comfortable stay at a summer cottage. It can be used to obtain drinking water and for technical purposes (irrigation, sewerage, drainage). After installing it, many are faced with the problem of purchasing or making a cover on their own. This is a necessary detail to protect a person from falling, water from getting into it dirt and the influence of climate. In addition, the aesthetic component is also important. After all, every summer resident tries to transform his property, to give all buildings and structures a harmonious, holistic look. And what the owner himself can create is beyond the control of industrial production.

In this article, we will look at how to make a cover for a well with our own hands. The decorative cover for the well must be sufficiently firmly attached to it, have a tight abutment. The material must be moisture resistant for this element to serve for many years. It is important to provide for access to water, that is, a hatch. Moreover, it should be aesthetically attractive. Any form can be made, as the owner's fantasy suggests. Flat lids are usually produced in a round or square shape. Depending on the purpose of the well, there are different ways to cover it from above.

Make a cover for a country well can be from the following materials:

  • wood;
  • plastic;
  • concrete;
  • metal.

The lid can be decorated on top with various decorative elements, beautiful handles, figurines, carved details.

Various types of well covers

Manufacturing of a wooden cover for a well

For the cover, choose aspen, pine, spruce, larch, oak or birch. The easiest option is make a flat hatch... You can provide an opening door, or make the hatch completely removable. The simplest option is a solid round or rectangular shield.

  • Flat wooden cover.

The technology of its manufacture is as follows: on two bars, usually 40 mm thick, serving as a crate, boards with a width of 140–160 mm are butt-butt-packed. It is better if it is a lining with tight fastening to each other. Instead of lining, you can use ready-made furniture boards with a thickness of 20 mm. The parts of the lid must be well dried. This will save the structure from drying out and the appearance of cracks. The joints should be sealed with a sealant.

It is recommended to nail in another block from the inside diagonally to ensure the rigidity of the structure. The width of the shield is determined by the size of the mouth of the well. All used parts must be impregnated with an antibacterial compound. You can make a round lid. To do this, cut out a circle of the required diameter from the resulting shield using a grinder. To avoid freezing in the winter, two identical covers are usually made; in winter, an insulating layer is laid between them.

Screw on top of the lid handles for easy movement... They can serve as nailed bars, and purchased products. For manual water raising, a hinged door with one or two leaves can be provided. To make it easier to carry out the movement, it is easy to put the cover on the runners. It is imperative to cover the resulting structure with paint or varnish for water resistance. The wooden cover for the well is ready.

  • Construction for a well in the form of a house.

Houses with a gable roof, installed over the neck of the well, look very aesthetically pleasing. All wooden parts must be treated with antiseptics. First you need to make a frame from beams. It is best to fasten the parts together with the help of corners and self-tapping screws.

Brief sequence of work:

In this case, there is where fantasies play out. You can stylize the cover to match the existing buildings. For example, upholstery it with a block house or roofing material that repeats the roof of the main building, decorate it with decorative elements. On one side of the gable roof, it is imperative to provide an opening door. It can be single or double.

Inside the house, if you wish, you can place the necessary accessories: bucket, hose, etc. In addition, you can make a shaft for lifting the bucket with a handle.

Plastic covers for the well

It is quite simple to make a flat lid with your own hands from two pieces of plastic, metal corners and sections of a profiled square pipe. The only difficulty is in welding.

Stages of work:

  • Making a fixed frame. Weld four pieces of the corner together in such a way that you get a quadrangle. Its size should allow to fit the outer diameter of the well throat.
  • Manufacturing of a frame for the opening part. Weld a frame similar to the one described above from the corners. All welding points must be processed. Cut the pipe sections to such a size that they can be placed around the perimeter inside the resulting frame. Weld the pipes carefully. To ensure rigidity, weld two more pipes crosswise. It is best to paint the metal before installing the manufactured frames.
  • Manufacturing of plastic parts. From prepared plastic sheets cut two identical blanks... Their size is determined by the parameters of the upper metal frame.
  • Connecting parts of the moving part. Connect the plastic and the upper frame with self-tapping screws. Place insulation inside the structure, for example, mineral wool.
  • Concrete foundation device. For the stability of the cover, make reinforced concrete structure around the perimeter of the well... To do this, install the formwork according to the size of the finished frame, place the metal frame on top. Pour concrete between the formwork and the neck. Connect the plastic blank to the lower metal frame using hinges. Finally, paint the fruit of your labor and attach the handles.

Various durable plastics and composite materials can be used as sheet material.

Production of a concrete cover for a well

This cover is mainly installed on technical wells, the neck of which is located at ground level. For its production, you need to dig a hole in the ground 10–15 cm deep (this will be the thickness of our cover) and a diameter the same as the outer diameter at the neck of the well. Lay the cut-out plywood sheet at the bottom, but you can use plastic wrap.

A hole must be provided in the center for attaching the hatch. For this purpose, a wooden crate is installed in the shape of the future hatch. First, the concrete mixture is poured to half the height, mesh, fiber or reinforcement is laid to give strength. After that, the pit can be filled with concrete completely. Drying of the concrete structure is carried out within five days.

After drying, the slab should be lifted out of the ground and placed on a well. Treat the joints with cement mortar. Using the dowels, screw on the hinges and install the hatch. It is made from any material. The concrete cover looks rather rough on the outside. You can decorate such a structure with the help of artificial boulders, plaster figures, plastic imitations of wood cuts, disguise with the help of floral and plant compositions.

Metal cover for the well

Its distinctive feature is resistance to environmental influences.

Two types of caps can be made:

It is extremely important when carrying out work measure carefully... The strength and appearance of the structure depends on this. Which option for making a cover for a well with your own hands you do not choose, simple or complex, temporary or for centuries, the main thing is that the structure cope with its goals - to serve as a source of clean water and be convenient to use.

On the site, there can be wells not only with drinking water, but also drainage and sewerage wells. To ensure the safety of people and animals and to protect the well from the ingress of debris, precipitation, the well must be closed. For this, a plastic, wooden or metal cover for the well is used.

Cover types

Depending on the design and purpose of the well and your desire, you can do:

  • a simple wooden lid,
  • wooden with a hatch,
  • metal,
  • concrete,
  • plastic,
  • pommel in the form of a house.

If necessary, a lock or latch is installed on the cover.

Plain wood lid

A simple wooden cover for a well with your own hands can be round or rectangular. It is made of 4 * 4 or 5 * 5 cm bars, which are knocked into a shield. To make a shield, the bars are stacked tightly to each other in one or two layers and fixed on the back side with two bars across. For the rigidity of the structure, another diagonal bar is nailed.

All gaps are filled with sealant or clogged with slats. The surface is carefully sanded with a grinder. If you need to make the lid round, cut it out according to the template.

To make the lid last a long time, it is covered with an antiseptic and moisture-proof compound. Outside, you can paint it, cover it with wood stain, varnish. For ease of use, handles are attached.

Option with a hatch

This design is more convenient, since you do not need to move or lift the entire lid to collect water. How to make a cover for a well with a hatch?

The base of the lid is a wooden shield assembled from 4 * 4 or 5 * 5 cm bars, as in the previous version. In its middle, a hole is made for a hatch with a size of about 50 * 60 cm. The hatch doors are made of thinner bars (2 * 2 or 2.5 * 2.5 cm), they are attached to the base on hinges. Wood is also polished, covered with protective compounds, and painted. Outside, handles are attached to the hatch doors.

Such a cover can be made not only from wood, but also from metal. To do this, a frame is welded from a 40 * 40 corner, a steel sheet 4-5 mm thick is welded to it, in which a hinged hatch is made. Also, the frame can be sheathed with textolite 8-12 mm thick. The metal structure must be painted to protect it from rust. First the primer is applied, then the paint.

Made of metal

The metal cover of the well can be of a different design. It consists of a base, which is attached to the head of the well, and a hatch on a metal frame, sheathed with textolite. For manufacturing you will need

  • corners,
  • square shaped tube,
  • metal tape 4-5 cm wide,
  • loops,
  • sealant,
  • textolite for the hatch,
  • dye.

The corner is cut into 4 parts, the ends are beveled at 45 degrees. A frame in the form of a frame is welded from them, the welding places are polished with a grinder. This is the base of the bottom. For the frame of the cover, another frame of the same type is made.

The pipes are cut into pieces so that the frame of them fits inside the frame from the corners. Also, pipes are laid inside a rectangle crosswise, the structure is welded - two frames are welded to each other. Metal structures are coated with a primer.

Two sheets are cut out of the textolite to fit the frame and attached to it from both sides with self-tapping screws. If necessary, insulation can be laid between the PCB plates.

For the base, the metal tape is bent in the shape of a well, as in the photo.

Around make a wooden formwork according to the size of the frame for the lower part. Concrete is poured into the space between the formwork and the ring. When it hardens, a lid is attached to the stationary part using hinges. Finally, the metal parts and the concrete base are covered with two layers of enamel.

Concrete

Concrete covers can be most often seen on technical wells or on wells made from precast rings. You can cast a concrete slab of the desired shape yourself. If you need to close the drinking water well, a hatch hole is provided in the stove.

How are reinforced concrete well covers made?

  • A hole is dug on the site, it needs a shape with a depth equal to the thickness of the slab.
  • Plywood or polyethylene is laid at the bottom of the pit.
  • Formwork is installed to form a hole for the hatch.
  • The concrete solution is mixed, cement, sand and crushed stone are taken in a ratio of 1: 3: 4.
  • The first layer of concrete is poured, its thickness is about 4-5 cm.
  • Reinforcement is laid - it can be a reinforcing mesh or steel rods or wire.
  • The rest of the concrete is poured and tamped carefully.

When the plate is installed, the joint with the ring is covered with cement mortar. The hinges for the hatch are fixed with dowels, then the door is installed. Usually, on concrete wells, the hatch is made metal.

How to close a drainage well

The drainage well must be closed with an unperforated hatch. This is necessary so that precipitation does not fall into it and the load on the system does not increase. If the drainage well is ready, the cover will already be included. For independently arranged drainage wells, you will have to select the cover yourself. There are plastic lids on sale in different models and sizes.

How to close a sewer well

For the well in which the duct is located, a reliable, durable cover is needed. Such a well is close to the ground level, flush with it or buried. The hatch must be flat and withstand heavy loads. A decorative cover can also be installed on the well, masking the hatch, for example, made of polyurethane, made in the form of a stone or a stump.

You can make it yourself from ordinary polyurethane foam, scraps of boards, foam and other materials. If you show your imagination, you can make interesting sculptures. The creation process looks like this:

  • the first layer of foam is applied to the base,
  • boards, pieces of wood, pieces of polystyrene and so on are laid on it,
  • cover with the next layer of foam,
  • repeat these operations until the desired dimensions are achieved, gradually narrowing the lid and giving the desired shape,
  • after hardening, cut out the parts with a knife, grind with sandpaper.

To protect the foam from the effects of the atmosphere, it is covered with plaster or tile adhesive, and then painted with facade acrylic paint.

House-shaped pommel

A cover for a well of this shape will not only fulfill its direct function, but also act as a decoration for a summer cottage. The house is a gable roof on a small log house, a hatch is made in one of the roof slopes.

The house can be built from timber, metal, sheathed with siding, and decorated according to your taste.

The wooden house looks beautiful, but in order for it to retain its appearance, you need to take care of it: remove the old layer of varnish or paint and recoat it, apply protective compounds. A house on a metal frame, covered, for example, with siding, does not require such maintenance. Also on sale there are ready-made metal, plastic and wooden houses. The house can be open or closed.

Closed house on a metal frame

Under the closed house, you can hide the concrete ring of the well. Such a house has a metal frame made of a shaped pipe or metal profile. The height of the house should be about 20 cm higher than the height of the person, so that it is convenient to take out the bucket.

  • First, two frames are welded - "floor" and "ceiling".
  • They are connected with vertical posts.
  • A rack is fastened with a height equal to the height of the entire house - this is the basis for the roof.
  • At the profile, which will be the base of the roof slopes, the side parts are cut and a triangle is made. You need two such triangles. The roof slopes can be made equal, or the roof slope can be made flatter.
  • The triangles are attached to the upright. The tops are connected by a crossbar - this is the ridge of the roof.
  • Mount the racks for the hatch on one of the slopes.

After assembling the frame, they proceed to finishing the house. The roof can be made of profiled sheet, bituminous shingles. The house itself is trimmed with clapboard, imitation of timber, siding. Looks beautiful if the well located near the house is made in the same style as it.

Open house

The open house is a canopy with a cover. For its device, two posts are installed, on which the well gate is strengthened. A canopy is held on the racks.

Such a house does not cover a concrete ring, so it is trimmed, for example, with an artificial stone, and covered with a log house. The racks can be dug in both before finishing the ring, and after.

The canopy should protrude much (at least 20 cm on each side) beyond the edges of the well to protect it from precipitation.

The canopy can be made as completely wooden as on a metal frame.

You can make a cover for a well with your own hands or buy a ready-made one. In addition to the usual flat cover or a structure with a hatch, you can make a decorative one or build a house with a roof.

A well in the country, and sometimes, near the house, is a necessary thing. But just a concrete ring sticking out of the ground with some kind of cover pleases the eye a little, and the comfort of use is below average. To rectify the situation, it is required to refine it and put a gate, which will facilitate the rise of water. Ready-made well fences are on sale - with a roof and a gate, but they either have a solid price, or look pathetic. Therefore, most often a house for a well is built with their own hands. Then you can apply your imagination and arrange everything the way you need.

Types of well houses and their tasks

The primary task of the well house is to protect the water from the ingress of various substances - dust, foliage and other similar contaminants. This requires a tight-fitting lid. Open wells are only possible for industrial water - for irrigation. For other purposes, water cannot be used from them. So if you plan to at least wash the dishes, the well should be tightly closed.

Protection from precipitation of any kind is also necessary: rain and melt waters carry with them very dirty water with fertilizers dissolved in it, animal waste, various garbage and impurities. If it gets into the well, it is fraught with serious pollution. To protect against precipitation, a canopy is made, most often a gable - it is easier to divert precipitation this way.

Another task of the well house is to protect from strangers, or at least provide safety for children. To do this, they make latches or cut in locks.

To make it easier to raise the water, posts and gates are installed - in the simplest case, a rotating log with a handle, to which a chain is attached. And all this together should still please the eyes of the owners, but at the same time require minimal maintenance.

Open or closed

As you can see in the photo, a house for a well can be open and closed. It is cheaper and easier to make an open one: the well ring can be trimmed with stone or wood, the lid, posts and canopy - made of wood or metal - will cost someone less. Materials with such a structure require a minimum. There is only one "but" - in winter, water can freeze in such a well. If you do not plan to use it in cold weather, no problem.

But for winter use, an insulated well house is required. But even then it can be made open:

  • buy a polystyrene "shell" for the well - they are of a suitable size, fix it, and put the finish on top of it;
  • the overlap of the ring and the cover should be made of several layers of wood, and the boards should be laid in different directions, overlapping the joints.

Another option is to make a closed house. It is slightly larger in size than the well ring. The existing air gap is already a good heat insulator, but the protection can be improved even further - by laying the gaps with foam, for example.

What to make

The choice of appearance sometimes takes a long time. The beautiful half of humanity especially "suffers" from the desire to decorate the well, going through numerous design options and spending a lot of time doing this. In fact, everything is simple: if there is a house, and the well is nearby, it is worth decorating it in the same style and, if possible, in the same color. Agree, it looks good.

What if the house is brick or plastered? Choose a finish that matches your style. If this is one of the first buildings on the site, just do it as you like.

The question often arises: to make of metal or wood. Wooden look, of course, beautiful. But without proper care, they quickly lose all attractiveness and become gray and ugly. If you are not afraid of the prospect regularly, at least once a year, renew the protective coating (remove the old paint, then paint it again), do it out of wood. If this is not for you, make it out of metal. The whole structure or just the frame is your choice. What is a bad option: a frame made of galvanized metal profiles, sheathed with siding. Especially if the house is decorated in the same way.

As you understand, there are a lot of options. First choose the type - open-closed, then materials and finishes to taste, understand the design, make a house for a well with your own hands.

Well canopy with lid - open house

Structurally, the device is simple: there are two racks located one opposite the other. They serve as a support for the canopy, and also a gate is attached to them - a device for lifting buckets of water. See the drawing of an open house with dimensions in the photo below.

Note that the racks can be dug in after the well ring has been finished. Depending on this, the order of work changes, but the design in any case remains the same.

How to make a canopy

First, the canopy is assembled. Make two side triangles according to the required dimensions. In the drawing above, only an approximate spread of the two extreme points is given. You can make more of it if necessary. The length of the canopy depends on where the racks will stand - close to the well ring or behind the cladding. The approximate dimensions of the canopy with a ring diameter of 100 cm are shown in the photo below.

Well shed dimensions for a diameter of 100 cm

The structure can be assembled from a galvanized profile, a metal profile pipe or a wooden bar. To prevent the profile from bending, it is reinforced at the points of attachment of the door - you can put a wooden block or a metal corner inside.

To ensure that the rain does not fall inside, the scatter must be made much larger than the size of the ring - at least 20 cm on each side.

If the racks are to be attached directly to the concrete ring, the order of work is slightly different. First, a frame is assembled that encloses the ring. In the photo, it is made of a 30 mm thick board. The racks are also made of the same board, the place of attachment to concrete is reinforced with overlays. They also play a decorative role.

If the canopy is heavy, it is advisable to use a thicker timber, otherwise it will not withstand the load.

After that, the previously assembled roof is attached to the racks. You can make triangles right away on the spot, but it is more convenient to prepare them in advance, assemble the rafter system, and put them on the racks in finished form.

Next is the finish. Sew up with a board, clapboard, roofing material. Just keep in mind that the boards, if you use raw, will dry out after a while, gaps up to 5 mm thick will form between them. Then we are not talking about any hygiene: both rain and dust will fall ... Using a dry board is also not very good - in wet weather it will swell, the flooring will "go in a wave". In general, if you want to have clean water, build a house with doors - closed. There are more chances to save moisture from pollution.

Do-it-yourself closed house for a well

We are talking about this type of shelter for a well - with a door. If you still make a lid inside, it is as if dust will not get in.

A frame is built, then it is put on the head of the well and fixed with anchor bolts.

  1. support post from 100 * 200 mm
  2. short support legs from the same timber 100 * 200 mm
  3. fixing bar 30 * 60 mm
  4. triangular bar

We assemble the frame, fasten it to the ring with the help of short bars. Then we proceed to the assembly of the pallet. Collect the flooring from a board of 30 * 100 mm or so. The frame is sheathed with boards or sheet material such as waterproof plywood.

To keep the doors well, you can put additional jibs. We hang up the doors - one or two, as desired. To make it easier to navigate, below are the dimensional drawings.

Using the same scheme, you can make a metal roof for a house. If available, you can use a profile pipe. It is easier to attach the finishing material to it.

How to make a fully enclosed frame

You can hide a concrete ring in the house. In this case, the gates are usually placed separately, and then the frame is assembled. Choose the dimensions so that the structure freely covers the ring. Height - 20 centimeters higher than your height: so that you can safely bend over and take out the bucket.

We take the profile from thick galvanized metal. From the guide we collect two identical frames - the "floor" and the upper level of the ring. They are connected by racks (profile for racks). The result is a cube with filled sides.

We trim the sides of the guide profile, leaving the "back" intact. This will make a triangle. We fix the rack, which is equal to the height of the whole house. If you want to have equal ramps, the rack mounts in the middle. You can make the distant slope steeper, then the stand is moved 15-20 cm from the center.

We attach the notched profile to the fixed post. We get one of the elements of the rafter system. We do the same operation on the other side. We connect the resulting tops of the triangles with a crossbar.

Add racks from the side of the door - on both sides. It is better to strengthen them - put wooden blocks inside and fasten with self-tapping screws.

We fix the roofing material, for example, a profiled sheet, and sheathe it with plywood. Then soft shingles are laid and nailed onto the plywood - who has what technology. The "foot" and the sides of the roof are finished with any material. If you want - you can use wood - clapboard, imitation of a log or a bar, if you want - with siding.

In this case, the same materials were used as when facing the house: so that everything looks like a single ensemble.

Making a well ring with your own hands

If a canopy or canopy is made, the gray concrete ring remains visible. The view is not the most attractive, and I just want to decorate it.

Stone decoration

The most popular way of decorating a well is finishing with stone - pebbles or medium-sized rubble. If everything is more or less clear with the finishing material - to buy or assemble, then the question of what to cling to it remains. There are several recipes:

We offer the third recipe for how to cover a well with a stone in video format. The composition of the mixture is very similar here, but before applying the solution, a mesh is fixed on the ring. With this technology, nothing will fall off for sure.

An interesting version of a hinged cover for a well is offered in the following video: it leans back almost completely, but whether such a device is needed is up to you.
