Bathhouse decoration. Washing in the bath: features and device

Modern baths have several departments at once. A steam room with a sink is made separately. So in the steam room there is always low humidity and it is easier to steam. But I want to make the washing department efficiently. The question arises of how to decorate a washing room in a bathhouse if it is traditionally built of wood. And as you know, wood and water are a bad combination. We will discuss what material is suitable for the lining of the sink together with the readers.

What should be a washing room in a bath

The washing department in the baths must be at least 4 m². Regular bathroom sizes, as in the apartment, will not work. They use the washing room not only as a shower room, but also as a place for massage or applying various cosmetic masks. It's not bad if there are 1-2 shops in the room. In order to save money, you can make a bench in the washing room with your own hands from natural wood. The benches should be at least 180 cm long, so that the tallest family member can fit on it while lying down.

In large saunas, the washing department is combined with a swimming pool. In this case, several cabins are installed, and the pool is used for relaxation and diving after the steam room. It is convenient to locate the exit from the steam room directly to the washing room, only from there to the rest room. They take a shower not only to wash, but also to wash off the sweat and cool off after the steam room, before resting and drinking tea.

The washing section of the bath does not necessarily have a shower. You can hang several tubs for running in cold water. But in this case, it is necessary to equip a separate place for placing wash basins.

In small saunas, a washing room can be combined with a bathroom. In such a sink, you can install an ordinary shower stall. In this case, the water will not come into contact with the wall decoration so much.

The material for finishing the washing room is chosen based on the basic design in the bath and a number of other criteria which we will talk about below.

Features of material for washing

The wash compartment is not exposed to high temperatures, but constant contact with water makes it unfavorable for wood. If, after all, the general design of the bath is a tree, and you do not want to violate it, then use a lining or imitation of a larch or aspen bar. But the material will not cost cheap.

Finishing materials for the bath are chosen according to the following criteria:

  1. High moisture-repellent characteristics.
  2. Environmental friendliness.
  3. Ease of installation.
  4. Washing structure.
  5. Price.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to find a combination of all indicators. Among the most commonly used are: ceramic tiles, natural or artificial stone, wood, water-repellent paint and plastic panels. According to their purpose, they are subdivided: for facing the ceiling, walls and floors. Each of the options has positive and negative qualities, we will consider them in more detail.

Ceramic tile

Ceramic tiles are water-repellent materials. It is used for finishing the floors and walls of the washing department. If the walls in the bath are wooden, then before facing you need to lay waterproofing and level the walls. The glue is taken from a moisture resistant tile. The size and color scheme are chosen individually, and a large assortment in hardware stores makes ceramic tiles available for every wallet.

For floors, ceramic tiles are used most often. In the washroom, it is important to properly organize the drain and perform the screed. The floor should have a slight slope towards the drain, which is led out under the bath or into the general sewer.

The pluses of ceramic tiles include:

  1. Does not allow water to pass through.
  2. Durability.
  3. Does not lose strength over the years.
  4. Does not change color.
  5. Environmental friendliness.
  6. Easy to care for.
  7. Price starts from 120 rubles / m²
  8. More than 200 color solutions.

Cons are mostly taken from user reviews:

  1. The floors in the wash compartment are slippery and easily injured.
  2. The walls stop breathing.
  3. Do-it-yourself installation without a certain skill is difficult.
  4. May crack when struck by a heavy or hard object.

If the floors in the sink are finished with tiles, an overlap should be made on the walls, at least 40 cm, so that water does not get to the wooden structure of the walls. Above the tiles, you can use a natural-based water-repellent paint.

Wood - pros and cons

Wood in the finishing of the sink is used for the walls. If all other rooms are finished with imitation timber, clapboard or block house, then the washing room can also be finished with this material. But it is better to use coniferous wood cladding. The high resin content will make the walls more resistant to moisture.

Larch and aspen are considered the most resistant, but the price of panels from this wood starts from 350 rubles.

Pine and spruce can be coated with water-repellent compounds and will increase their lifespan. The following are used as a water-repellent composition:

  1. Natural oils.
  2. Wax.
  3. Water based paint.

Well processed wood will be an excellent finish in a washing bath.

Oils are impregnating agents and penetrate deep into the wood. Before application, the surface is sanded and cleaned from dust and dirt. It is necessary to apply oils in the washing room in 2-3 layers. Once completely dry, the walls will become less susceptible to moisture. The resistance of an oil coating is less than, for example, wax.

Wax is one of the most expensive wood coatings. It is applied by rubbing with a special soft cloth. The wax creates a film on the surface of the wood that reliably protects the wood, but does not block the penetration of oxygen inside. At the same time, the appearance of wood only improves, the drawing becomes more expressive, and the shade is deeper.

The paint is taken only on a natural basis, but water-repellent. It can be matte or glossy. In this case, the color scheme depends only on the owner's imagination. Apply with a brush or roller in 2 layers. Dries up within 12 hours. The only drawback is that the surface wears out quickly, so it is necessary to repeat the treatment once a year.

Wood trim with natural or artificial stone will work well.

Stone in the finishing of the sink

You can use stone for walls and floors in whole or in part. They combine the walls, laying out the place where the shower room is located with artificial or natural stone. Natural stone is expensive and has a number of advantages:

  1. Eco-friendly.
  2. Nice appearance.
  3. Long lasting.
  4. Not afraid of mechanical stress.
  5. Does not allow water to pass through.

The main disadvantages are:

  1. Heavy stuff.
  2. It is difficult to do it yourself.
  3. A flat surface is required for installation.
  4. High price.

But the disadvantages can be compensated for by using an artificial stone. It's not as eco-friendly, but it's lighter. And if you take the correct shape, then it fits no more difficult than tiles. The price for artificial turf is 2-3 times lower than natural.

Plastic lining and panels

The most economical way to decorate the sink is to use plastic panels. Moreover, they are wide with a spike and a groove, which makes it possible to create the most airtight finish. Color solutions are different. The use of thin plastic panels resembles externally painted wood paneling. used for wall and ceiling cladding. The main advantages of the material include:

  1. Simple styling.
  2. Lightweight material, therefore easily mounted on a lightweight crate.
  3. Price from 70 rubles / panel.
  4. Does not absorb water.
  5. The aesthetic appearance of the walls after finishing.

The cashing in question has a number of negative qualities that users repeatedly mention in reviews:

  1. Afraid of mechanical stress.
  2. Not environmentally friendly.
  3. Prevents oxygen from entering.

If you purchase a low-quality material, it will emit a pungent persistent odor.

When installing plastic panels, it is necessary to install a thorough waterproofing of the walls and ceiling. To do this, a foil film is attached to the surface or PVC as an economy. It is necessary to leave a gap of 1-2 cm between the panels and the waterproofing, otherwise condensation may accumulate under the panels and the walls will begin to rot.

Installation of plastic panels in the washing compartment is permissible only after the house has completely shrunk. Otherwise, they can be skewed and the tightness will be broken, and in rare cases, the finish will crack.

Sink finishing paint

The easiest way to finish washing gypsum fiber board and paint with water-repellent paint. But this method is short-lived and it is necessary to carry out repair work once a year. In addition, when installing GVL, part of the area of the room is lost. This method is not the best, since it is recommended to use it if a separate closed shower stall is installed in the sink.

Paints can be taken only on a natural basis, and their main disadvantage is fragility.

Any of the listed finishing materials can be used for interior decoration of a washing room in a bath. But choosing the right material is only half the battle, it is important to correctly and efficiently carry out the installation. If experience is not enough, it is better to entrust the work to professionals.

How to decorate a sink in a bath: Tips from the masters

Choosing how to decorate the washroom in the bath. What are the pros and cons of tiles, natural and artificial stone, plastic panels, paint.

Washing room: separate room in the bath

Today, many people dream of resting in the bathhouse, so their construction is becoming more and more popular. A separate area that requires special attention to itself is the washing room - a room that must be present in a sauna or bath. You can do it yourself, there is nothing complicated about it.

Option for organizing a washing room in a bath

Benefits of a separate washroom

The washing room should be organized according to the norms in a separate room, closed from the rest room and the steam room. It is possible, if space does not allow, to combine these zones, but to make a small fence to make the interior more comfortable. The basis of the decoration in the bath is wood, but the sink device requires additional materials - tiles and protective curtains.

Washer looks organic, finished with wood

It is important to remember that a combined washing and steam room saves space, but the design turns out to be less comfortable. The interior of the bathhouse as a whole begins with the washing room, since it is located right next to the entrance.

The advantages of a separate sink:

  • allows you to create a comfortable interior and beautiful design;
  • if the room allows, then you can accommodate a large group of people;
  • the shower cabin does not spoil the general atmosphere with its unusual appearance for this room.

In turn, the combination will save money on materials and wood, since there will be no need for additional heating of the sink.

Advice: a shower cabin and a hot water tank (boller) can be decorated, for example, by sticking a film with a wood pattern... This is especially true if the sink is not insulated. The device of this part of the bath or sauna requires some skills and knowledge, since it is in the shower that the humidity indicators are much higher than in the rest of the room.

The sink often uses materials other than wood.

It is important to remember that high-quality and powerful ventilation is needed here, so it needs to be given maximum attention. For comfortable accommodation in a common room with a steam room, it is recommended to equip them at different levels. For example, a shower will occupy the lower area, and a shelf for rest will be placed at the top. Most often, a washing room and a steam room are connected if the total area of the building is less than 16 m2.

Arrangement of walls and floors

Fine finishing in the bath assumes that most of all there will be wooden elements in the interior, but the washing department allows finishing the floor and walls with tiles. The cabin in which the shower will be located can be either plastic or made with your own hands from the same wood, which will look stylish, and the interior will be completely harmonious. It is important to remember that the arrangement of the washing room is carried out exclusively with moisture-resistant wood species.... The cedar will perfectly cope with the task. It is used both for wall decoration and for flooring, if the use of tiles is not provided. The design and interior also benefit in this case. Linden, larch and abashi are also suitable for wood finishing.

The floor in the sink is tiled and the walls are finished with natural wood

The lining can be fixed in different directions:

Today it is very fashionable to place it diagonally or by combining directions.

In order to create a washing room, you will need to create a frame, which is then sheathed with clapboard, which creates not only a pleasant design, but also fills the entire room with a pleasant woody aroma. Fastening is done both with nails and self-tapping screws.

Do-it-yourself flooring in the washing room is also not difficult to do. It is important to ensure that it is not slippery in the end.... If you want to move away from the usual and make a modern floor, then experts advise you to pay attention to ceramic tiles that do not have glaze. Its installation is carried out directly on the concrete floor (rough).

Advice: it is best to ensure a good drainage of the water. For this purpose, special structures called ladders should be used. You can make them with your own hands from wooden slats.... Ordinary rubber mats will also help get rid of slippery floors and excess moisture. Do not use toxic materials for arranging the floor.

Modern version of finishing the sink in the bath

In addition, making a floor with your own hands requires taking into account the fact that the soil cushion, heat-insulating material, as well as the floor screed cannot be connected to the foundation in order to prevent distortion and shrinkage.

Water supply system and ventilation

In a modern bath, it is necessary not only to make a good shower, to comply with the design and interior, but also to carry out ventilation and ensure the supply of water in an uninterrupted mode. This applies to the washing room in the first place.

Ventilation is necessary to remove water that can accumulate under the floor, especially where a shower is installed. The blowing device will prevent rotting and will also ensure a stable air temperature. A ventilation pipe joint with the oven will keep the floor warm.

It is practical to install a bathroom in the sink

There is a natural and forced system for pumping air masses in the bath. Natural ventilation occurs due to the difference in air pressure inside and outside the room. The interior will not suffer damage, since there is no need to purchase special devices that spoil the appearance. Forced ventilation, the device of which is especially important for large rooms, involves the use of ventilation and filters.

The water supply in the sink and bathhouse as a whole must be made reliable, so that there is hot and cold water. A separate heater can be installed in the shower.

The shower stall in the sink can look very organic

Advice: to save resources, a preliminary calculation can be made to determine the optimal amount of water per person.

Then piping is carried out. To ensure that the washroom is fully supplied with hot and cold water, a gas or electric heater can be used as a supplement or alternative. The shower can be made joint or separate, then you need to think over the number of heaters in advance.

The washroom can be fully tiled

There are times when water is limited, since there is no way to ensure its flow to the site. Then the water supply device looks like this: calculations are made in liters for the number of people, after which, using buckets, water is delivered to containers - in this case, it is most practical to install one shower. After that, hot water is heated - up to 90 ° C. Cold water is stored separately. Approximately one adult has 40 liters of water, of which at least 10 liters is hot.

Thus, the device in the washing bath is a business that can be easily done with your own hands, without spending money and the help of specialists. Design, interior, pieces of furniture - all this is chosen by the owner, but water supply and ventilation should be arranged according to the rules and regulations. A shower in a modern bath can be supplemented with a separate tank - a water heater for comfort and better, good rest.

I have long been interested in the issue of arranging a separate washing room. Thanks to this article, I learned everything that interested me. Thanks!

I used tiles for the floor in the sink, but for other safety, as advised by the author, I put rubber mats. The material is good, a lot of useful information.

When I set up a washing room, it turned out that the existing ventilation was not enough. Therefore, I advise everyone to think about high-quality ventilation in advance!

Advantages of a separate washroom in the sauna. Features of the arrangement of walls and floors. Options and nuances of water supply systems and ventilation.

Washing bath finishing

The interior decoration of the washing bath should be carried out taking into account the operating conditions of the premises. First of all, you need to decide on the design features. The room can be separate or combined with a steam room. The second option is much less common and imposes stricter restrictions on the choice of materials.

Washing room in the steam room

In this case, the facing material will have to face higher temperatures. The washing room becomes an extension of the steam room, so the heat will also affect the finish of the washing section of the bath. To avoid problems during operation, it is recommended to choose coniferous wood as a material, both for wall cladding and ceiling. But you can also choose deciduous, moisture-resistant, for example, oak or cedar.

The finishing work starts after the shrinkage of the wooden frame. This rule is not relevant when building a bath from brick or lightweight concrete.

The decoration of a sink in a wooden bath begins with the outer and inner caulking of the walls. It must be carried out efficiently in order to prevent cold and drafts from entering the room in the future. For cladding, wooden lining is most often used. The work is carried out in the following order:

  1. Aligning the walls.
  2. Securing the frame for finishing. The battens of the lathing are placed perpendicular to the lining. If you plan to fix the facing material vertically, but the frame will be horizontal. The same rule applies to the ceiling. The pitch of the frame slats is taken equal to 40-50 cm. The thickness of the lathing is usually 40 mm.
  3. Checking the evenness of the frame. To do this, use a building level or plumb line.
  4. An insulating material 5-10 cm thick is fixed between the slats. To protect the insulation from moisture from the room, foil vapor barrier is used. It will also act as an additional barrier to cold air and will reflect heat into the building.
  5. At the next stage, the lining is attached to the crate. Self-tapping screws, nails or clamps are used as fasteners.
  6. Wood finishes are treated with antiseptics to prevent mold and decay, wax or a water-repellent solution.
  7. Last but not least, platbands are mounted on doors and windows.

Separate washroom

In this case, the list of possible materials is significantly expanded. As in the previous case, you can use wood. The technology for performing the work remains the same. Three more options are added to the lining:

  • ceramic tile;
  • natural or artificial stone;
  • plastic panels.

When choosing a cladding method, it is important to consider several material requirements:

  • moisture resistance;
  • resistance to high temperatures;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • security.

Facing with ceramic tiles

Tiling of the washing room in the bath is carried out only for the walls. The advantages of this material include high strength, durability and resistance to high humidity. Now manufacturers offer a large assortment of different colors and textures, from which it is easy to choose the right option. The disadvantages will be the complexity of the work and the large volumetric weight of the tile.

Wall tiles are used both in brick and wooden baths. Before starting work, you need to carefully select an adhesive solution. It should be designed for wet rooms. When choosing tiles for a wooden structure, you should carefully consider the bearing capacity of the walls. If they are of small thickness, it is recommended to choose a lighter cladding.

The work is performed in the following order:

  1. Wall preparation, caulking, leveling, antiseptic treatment.
  2. Wall cladding with waterproofing material. For this, roofing material is often chosen. You can also consider more modern analogues, for example, linokrom or hydroisol. The waterproofing is fixed with an overlap of at least 10 cm using a construction stapler.
  3. A fine mesh netting is sewn on top of the waterproofing. A layer of cement mortar is applied on top of it. It must completely cover the mesh.
  4. Tile installation starts from the lightest corner. For wall cladding along the perimeter at floor level, a wooden beam or a metal profile is nailed. Its evenness is checked using a building level. This bar will be the support for the first row of ceramics.
  5. The tiles are laid from below with glue, which is applied to the back of each element. For the evenness of the seams, special crosses are used.
  6. After finishing, all seams are rubbed with a hydrophobic compound.

Facing stone

Decorating a shower room in a bath with natural stone is highly labor-intensive and costly. recently, the artificial version is gaining more and more popularity. The technology for performing work is very similar to the installation of ceramic tiles. The order of work looks like this:

  • preparation of the foundation;
  • waterproofing;
  • cement screed over the mesh;
  • applying glue to stone and wall;
  • gluing the finish with checking the levelness of the level;
  • grouting.

PVC panels

Decorating a shower room in a wooden bath with plastic panels is a possible option. This is also true for brick or concrete buildings. But before making a final decision, you need to carefully weigh the pros and cons. The advantages of plastic panels include:

The disadvantages include:

  • fragility;
  • low strength;
  • the seams begin to darken after half a year.

If you buy a low-quality PVC panel, it can give off an unpleasant odor when heated. This effect indicates the use of low-grade raw materials for the manufacture of finishing materials.

Plastic is used for both walls and ceilings. The installation procedure is as follows:

  • preparation of the base (when finishing the ceiling - plaster);
  • fixing waterproofing;
  • installation of the lathing (the same as for wooden lining);
  • installation of panels using the thorn-groove system.

Floor finishing

It is not recommended to use synthetic materials as floor coverings. In this case, use ceramic tiles or wood. The texture of the tiles should be chosen so that it prevents slipping. Also, to avoid injury, wooden gratings can be laid on the tiled floor.

The wooden floor must be treated with an antiseptic compound and protected from moisture. To increase the water-repellent characteristics, use:

  • wood varnish (renewed every 5-7 years);
  • toning (every 2 years);
  • oil (once a month).

To extend the life of the wall, floor and ceiling finishes, it is worth taking care of ventilation. If natural ventilation is not enough (when using tiles, plastic, stone as cladding), a forced system (exhaust) can be used. This option will require additional financial investments, but will provide a comfortable microclimate and prevent frequent repairs to the finish.

Washing room - the main room in the bath

Washing room in the steam room

Building a bathhouse with their own hands, each owner wants it to be not only functional, but also aesthetic. Therefore, even at the design stage, various options for the arrangement and decoration of premises are considered. Until recently, the bath was used only for hygienic purposes. Today it is a place to relax with friends, an opportunity to relax, relieve stress. But the main thing is to get the maximum charge of vivacity, improve your body and lose those extra pounds.

Now in the bath, three or even four rooms are necessarily arranged:

The most important are the steam room and the washing room. Special attention is paid to the arrangement of these objects, especially if you do everything yourself. There can be no trifles here. If the visitor feels comfortable after the steam room, it means that the washing room is arranged correctly. It must maintain an optimally low temperature and air humidity. In such conditions, a person can stay indoors for a long time.

What should be in the washroom?

A shower must be installed in the room. If the bath is designed for several people to visit it at the same time, there can be two or three showers. The main thing here is the area of the sauna, as well as the desire of the owner, who builds the object with his own hands.

The efficiency of the procedures carried out in the bathhouse, including cosmetic and hygienic ones, depends on the arrangement of the washing room.

If we are talking about the traditional method of washing, then most often wooden tubs are installed in the room at a height. A special device supplies them with cold water, and the visitor, by pulling on the rope, can pour himself with life-giving moisture. This cooling method after a steam room is especially pleasant.

If the size of the bath allows, you can build a small pool with your own hands. Diving into it is a real pleasure. When the sink is not so large, install a wooden trough with cold water in it. Before entering the steam room, it will be possible to soak a broom in it, and after visiting the sauna, sit in this container, feeling how the hot body is pleasantly pinched by the bubbles of cold. It is also recommended to drip aromatic oil into the water.

Benches are another must-have attribute of a washing room. There should be several of them so that there is enough space for everyone who wants to carry out wellness procedures, for example, such as rubbing the body with various compounds. It helps to lose weight or get rid of cellulite, improve skin health. Some do cosmetic body wraps, which also require benches to lie on afterwards.

It is in the washing room that the massage is done, so it is worth installing a massage trestle bed here. It should measure 180 by 65 cm. On a bathing day, the bench is usually installed so that it can be approached from all sides, and in any other it can be pushed against the wall. Therefore, the trestle bed should be made of lightweight material. Of course, the arrangement of the washing room is an individual matter. Each owner himself determines the set of accessories necessary for himself, often creating them with his own hands.

Best finish - wood

When building a bath, wall and floor decoration is usually thought out in advance. The choice depends on the properties of the material, as well as the financial capabilities of the owner. Most often, wood is used as a natural finish, characterized by resistance to moisture, temperature changes. The tree easily absorbs moisture, growing, and then just as easily returns to its previous appearance after drying.

Washing wood trim

It is best to use deciduous trees:

In the conditions of the Russian climate, linden is most often used. The walls, upholstered with clapboard made of this material, keep heat well, they are not dangerous for high humidity, which is inevitably present in the washing room. In addition, linden lining does not emit resin and cannot burn, since it does not heat up to a high temperature. Another advantage of linden is the smell that wood exudes when heated, and the essential oils it produces.

If possible, try using abash. True, a square meter of this wood costs a lot. Therefore, most often they make benches from it, a canopy in a steam room, but the walls are still sheathed with linden. Aspen, on the other hand, has one significant drawback: hidden rot can only be detected after exposure to steam.

When choosing a material for wall decoration, one should take into account the efficiency of its operation.

You can decorate the walls with ceramic tiles. She washes well, serves for many years. However, this material is cold; it is rarely used for a home bath. Some do not install the tiles to the full height of the walls, but about 1.8 meters, and then paint the walls with water-repellent paint. This is a budget finishing option. But in any case, the ceiling is best made of wood. Then condensation will not accumulate on it.

If you decide to use wood for finishing, you should pre-treat it. To begin with, they carry out through the forest with sandpaper, and already an antiseptic is applied to a smooth surface. The board must be processed on both sides, this will protect the lining from mold. It is important that the impregnation is water-based.

What should be the floor?

Particular attention should be paid in the washroom to the floors. It should be understood that water affects them especially intensely, therefore it is impractical to make them from wood. The wood will quickly rot and the flooring will have to be changed. Experts recommend using one of two materials for finishing the floor:

When constructing the floor in the bath, the main technological requirements must be observed. It is about the rapid drainage of water and the ease of cleaning the floor covering.

Tiled concrete floor

When constructing a floor, it is necessary to take into account the condition of the soil on which the structure is erected. When the soil is sandy, easily absorbing moisture, the floor can be made with a slope towards the pit, which is dug out in the washing room and then filled with rubble, sand, broken brick. Water will drain perfectly from such a floor. If the soil is clay, a pit is made where the water flows through a drain pipe. Both bases are then covered with a layer of concrete.

If the bath is built in an area with a cold climate, then the concrete floors should be insulated. For this, the solution is mixed with expanded clay. Pouring concrete in layers, insulation should be laid between them. It can be mineral wool or construction felt, which must be impregnated with hot bitumen in advance. And in the place where the floor connects to the wall, it is necessary to pour bitumen. This will help protect the floor from moisture.

You can leave a concrete floor in the sink, but build wooden battens on top. The benefits of this floor are obvious. Firstly, the wood will prevent slipping. Secondly, the grates can be periodically taken out to dry outside. Thus, the floor will last a long time.

Another option is to lay ceramic tiles on the concrete. This type of coating is certainly more aesthetically pleasing than wooden battens. However, the tile becomes slippery under the influence of water, it can easily fall on it. Therefore, rubber rugs or the same laths from the forest are laid on the tiles, on the legs of which rubber bands are stuffed.

The washing room in the bath must be provided with good ventilation, otherwise there will be little pleasure from being in the room. Air circulation affects the visitor's condition. If it does not work properly, after a few minutes in the bath there will be practically nothing to breathe. It is important to create a system so that the exhaust air leaves the room without hindrance, and fresh air flows take its place.

In the absence of ventilation, high humidity is felt in the washroom. In this case, the body cannot be wiped dry. After a while, the sink becomes overgrown with mold and mildew. Other signs will also indicate that ventilation is not doing its job:

  • condensation on the ceiling and walls;
  • unpleasant odor;
  • there are no marks on the hood.

Usually a forced ventilation system is used in the bath. It implies the presence of supply and exhaust pipes. Moreover, they must be of the same diameter. On them, valves are necessarily made that regulate air circulation. Ventilation should be installed so that air flows are directed to secondary rooms. For example, from the washing room to the vestibule.

The chimney is installed above the roof, so the air will escape more efficiently. The supply air is located about two meters above the ground level. Sometimes it is advisable to build forced ventilation. It is driven by an electric motor and can be connected to the electrical wiring. In this case, the ventilation system in the bath will work every time the light is turned on.

Water supply - which type to choose?

You cannot do without water in the washing room, it is necessary both cold and hot. It's great if you can easily carry out centralized water supply to the bathhouse. Then the task will be greatly simplified, it will only be necessary to equip the water supply in the bathhouse.

Another option involves the flow of water from a well. It is necessary to dig a trench from the source to the room; it should be located at a depth below the level of freezing of the soil. Water supply pipes are laid in the trench. A system should be installed in the bath, which includes two pumps, a purification structure and a tank where water will accumulate. One of the pumps supplies water to the bath, the other distributes it throughout the premises.

Some people make a bath in the old fashioned way: a container is installed on the stove, into which water is poured. Still, today most people prefer to use water heaters. Water must be in the sink. In the steam room, it is enough to install a container with a ladle.

How to build benches correctly?

Various benches and sun loungers are an indispensable attribute of the washroom. Doing them with your own hands is a very exciting activity that almost everyone can handle. It is necessary to follow basic rules to make the furniture multifunctional, beautiful and safe.

It all starts with the choice of wood. Deciduous tree species such as linden are generally preferred. It has a number of advantages, but only one drawback - over time, the wood darkens under the influence of steam and high temperature. Before use, the boards must be treated with antiseptic agents. You cannot cover them with varnish or paint. At high temperatures, such a tree gives off hazardous substances.

It is quite simple to build benches for a washing room with your own hands. You will need wooden blocks, planks and fasteners. All shops are performed the same way. First, the bars are assembled into a frame, on which the strips are then stuffed. The distance between them should be such that the air can circulate freely. If the wood is fastened with nails or screws, they need to be sunk deeper into the wood. Better yet, putty on top. This will prevent visitors from getting burned by contact with the heated iron. A self-made washing room will become the real pride of the owner.

Interior decoration of the sink in the bath with panels, tiles or stone

To decorate the premises of a bath or sauna, it is necessary to use only environmentally friendly, natural materials. But when it comes to the washing compartment, the moisture resistance of the material is first of all important. Water during washing can get on the walls, ceiling and, having chosen the wrong material, repairs will have to be done at least once every three months. The interior decoration of the washing room in the bath, the material and its features, we find out and choose together with the readers.

Interior decoration of the washing room in the bath: choose the material

Any moisture-resistant material can be used to decorate the walls of the washing compartment, and you should not be afraid of high temperatures. If the washing room is planned separately from the steam room, then there is no higher than 45º in it. What are the basic requirements for the material for finishing the washing room:

  • are not afraid of moisture;
  • easy to mount (in the case of do-it-yourself work);
  • has an affordable price and high quality.

Is wood suitable for finishing the wash compartment?

Wood is considered the best material for finishing a sauna or bath. But, when choosing a material for a shower, the peculiarities of the wood species are taken into account. For the steam room, take linden or oak, since at high temperatures resinous wood begins to cry with drops of resin. For the washing compartment, on the contrary, it is necessary to use lining with a high resin content, since it is less afraid of moisture. Suitable for finishing lumber from aspen or larch, they are vice versa, when moisture gets on them, they only become stronger.

Aspen or larch has one big drawback, the price of lining or imitation of timber from these types of wood is high. You can use pine or spruce, but after sheathing, the walls are covered with protective compounds, for example, varnish or wax. They form a thin protective film on the surface, which will prevent moisture from getting into the wood.

If you choose the right wood for finishing the washing room, protect the walls and ceiling from moisture, then the finish will last at least 1-2 years.

For durable finishes, consider ceramic or plastic materials.

Tiles in the washing compartment

Tiles have been used for decorating baths for several decades. The material perfectly withstands moisture, is quite durable. Modern tile is available in various designs, you can pick it up at a price of 100 r / m².

When choosing ceramic tiles for finishing your shower room, do not forget that the floor covered with the material will be quite slippery. To prevent injury, wood gratings are placed on top of the tiles. After each shower, the grates are dried, otherwise they will quickly darken and begin to rot.

You can knock off the gratings with your own hands, but difficult nails are taken as fasteners, but galvanized or brass ones. Simple iron ones are susceptible to corrosion.

Among the various ceramic tiles, it is more practical to use glazed. The coating on top will provide additional protection against moisture and the material is externally more aesthetically pleasing.

Granite or marble in the decoration of the bath

Granite or marble tiles are the most expensive of all finishing materials. Do not forget that the stone is heavy; therefore, it is not recommended to mount it to the ceiling. As an economy, the walls can be finished with granite or marble mosaics up to half or 40 cm from the floor.

Natural stone looks rich in the interior, but it is difficult to lay out the material with your own hands, without experience. We recommend that, before attaching the stone to the wall, lay out a drawing on the floor, only then fasten each element to its place. The work is painstaking, requires a lot of time and perseverance.

The price of granite and marble is high from 1200 m2, but finishing will last from 30 years or more.

Plastic panels in the decoration of the washing bath

The most inexpensive option is to decorate the shower room with plastic clapboard, panels. Modern panels have a different pattern, for example, under the tiles. You can combine wall panels with tiled floors. Fastening the panels is easy, so all the work is easy to do with your own hands. Plastic is not afraid of moisture, easy to clean.

The main disadvantage of plastic panels is fragility. The material is afraid of mechanical and chemical influences. The seams darken over time, as it is difficult to clean them out. But the price of plastic is not high.

Another negative point concerns inexpensive Chinese plastic panels. A room decorated with such material has an unpleasant synthetic smell that does not disappear for a long time. When choosing plastic for finishing the walls and ceiling of your bathhouse, buy only high-quality material from well-known manufacturers.

When choosing how to decorate a washing room in a bath, start from your capabilities and preferences. Plastic finishes can be made, but repairs will have to be done more often. Wood and ceramic tiles are in the middle of the price-performance ratio. But there are some nuances that must be taken into account. So, wood without additional moisture-resistant coating will not last long, with the exception of expensive aspen and larch.

Granite and marble are considered the most durable and environmentally friendly, but the price of the material is high. Doing it yourself with a stone is problematic, so you have to fork out and pay for the work of professionals.

Plastic is suitable for the walls and ceiling of the sink, but the material must be chosen carefully.

Another nuance that must be taken into account when choosing materials is what the walls, floor and ceiling of the sink are made of. It is easier to finish a bath from a bar or round timber with clapboard, from aerated blocks or bricks with tiles or stone.

Whatever material is chosen, it is necessary to take care of the ventilation of the shower compartment, since after each procedure the premises must be dried and well ventilated. Otherwise, any material on the walls, floor, ceiling will be covered with mold and the finish will quickly become unusable. The interior decoration of the washing bath must be done correctly, otherwise repairs will have to be carried out frequently.

Remember, a bathhouse should be enjoyable and healthy, which means that any room, and especially a washing room, should be kept clean!

Do-it-yourself interior decoration of the washing room in the bath - Do it yourself

With your own hands Do-it-yourself interior decoration of the washing room in the bath You can read the reviews here Interior decoration of the washing room in the bath with panels, tiles or stone For finishing the premises of the bath or

The bathhouse is a functional building that combines special departments for wellness procedures, relaxation and rest. A separate room, which requires close attention during the arrangement, is the washing room in the bathhouse.

How the bath sink is arranged and what materials are available for the interior decoration in order to create optimal conditions for the procedures are questions that are of interest to many.

Advantages of the washing department

The washing department in the bathhouse is set up in a separate area fenced off from the steam room, dressing room and relaxation room. In small-sized saunas, all rooms are combined, and the washing room is separated from other functional areas by a decorative partition.

The combined version of the washing department with the steam room provides significant space savings, but makes the room less convenient to use.

The advantages of a separate sink include:

  • the ability to create a unique and practical interior;
  • the ability to accommodate a large number of people;
  • the possibility of using wear-resistant and durable materials for interior cladding;
  • simplicity and availability of maintenance of the washing room.

A small private bath can have two rooms: in one - a dressing room with a relaxation area, in the other - a steam room with a sink. A stove for a bath and an area for storing bath accessories are arranged in a steam room, a shower room and benches for relaxation - in a washing bath.

This design has several advantages, including:

  • Economical consumption of fuel material for heating combined rooms.
  • A laconic and practical interior, when a heater with an elongated firebox can be installed in a steam room and a sink. This will provide simultaneous space heating and hot water supply.

Wash compartment requirements

Distinctive features of a bath in a wooden bath are changes in temperature conditions and high humidity, which leads to the creation of comfortable conditions for a long stay of visitors.

For this reason, such a compartment must have a reliable ventilation system for good air exchange.

Insufficient ventilation results in overheating of the body, the appearance of mold and mildew, and the concentration of unpleasant odors and moisture.

The bath room must meet the basic technical requirements:

  • Equipped with forced ventilation of supply or natural type with an air duct. The pipe is equipped with protective dampers to regulate the air flow.
  • Outlet of the air pipe through a special hole in the ceiling to the roof.
  • Installation of the supply pipe 200 cm above the soil level.
  • Arrangement of a hot and cold water supply system.
  • Carrying out various types of massage using bath cosmetics. For this, a standard massage table or trestle bed is installed in the department.

Features of finishing material for washing

A washing room in a wooden bath is practically not exposed to heating, but is in contact with water, which excludes the possibility of using wood for interior decoration. To maintain the overall design of the premises in a timber bath, you can use its high-quality imitation.

When choosing materials for the interior decoration of the washing compartment, the following parameters are taken into account:

  • resistance to high humidity;
  • environmental safety;
  • practicality and durability;
  • convenient and affordable installation;
  • ease of maintenance;
  • price.

The most popular finishing materials include wood, tiles, stone, paint, plastic.

By purpose, they are divided into types: for finishing floor, wall and ceiling surfaces. Each of the options available has advantages and disadvantages.

Wooden panels and lining

Wood is the most demanded and popular material used for decorative cladding of wall and ceiling surfaces. Decorating the sink in the bath with wooden panels and clapboard is the best choice for those who want to get an original interior style.

Due to the high content of resin compounds, wood is resistant to high humidity, drying out and decay.

With additional processing of wood with protective paints, natural oils and wax, the service life of the material is doubled.

  • Oil formulations are able to penetrate deeply into the wood structure and reliably protect it from the inside. Before processing, the wooden base is thoroughly cleaned and sanded. The oil is evenly applied in several thin layers. After drying, the surface becomes resistant to the negative effects of moisture.
  • Wax is an alternative way of protecting wood, more expensive and durable. It is applied in a circular motion using a piece of soft tissue. The wax is capable of creating a thin film that protects the surface from darkening, drying out and decay.
  • For the treatment of wooden surfaces, coloring agents with moisture-repellent properties are used. They are matte or glossy. The paint is evenly applied to the surface to be treated with a soft brush in 2-3 layers and kept until completely dry.

Before tiling wooden walls, the surface is thoroughly cleaned, a waterproofing layer is installed and leveled. For laying the tiles, a moisture-resistant adhesive is used.

In order to properly tile the floor, it is necessary to properly equip the drain hole and make a concrete screed. The base is made at a slight angle in relation to the drain hole connected to the sewer pipe.

The tile has important advantages:

  • high strength and wear resistance;
  • environmental safety and durability;
  • resistance to fading and darkening;
  • ease of maintenance;
  • wide range of colors.

The disadvantages of finishing materials include:

  • slippery surface that can lead to injury;
  • the difficulty of doing styling with your own hands (practical skills and knowledge are required);
  • susceptibility to mechanical damage.

The ceramic tile finish is successfully combined with natural moisture-resistant paint.

Artificial and natural stone

Finishing the sink with a stone is a practical and durable option. The material is suitable for cladding floors and wall surfaces up to a height of 50 cm. An excellent solution for finishing a shower room is a combined masonry made of natural and artificial stone.

Natural stone has a number of advantages:

  • high environmental friendliness and safety;
  • practicality and durability;
  • inertness to mechanical damage;
  • resistance to high humidity;
  • attractiveness and aesthetics.

Among the disadvantages are:

  • heavy weight;
  • the difficulty of doing self-masonry;
  • high cost.

An alternative to an expensive natural stone is its artificial counterpart. It is less environmentally friendly, but at the same time lightweight and easy to install.

Plastic panels

Decorating a sink in a wooden bath using PVC panels is an affordable and cheap option. This material is highly moisture resistant, practical and easy to install. It is used for cladding ceiling and wall surfaces. Due to a wide range of models and a variety of colors, you can choose the most suitable option for cladding wall and ceiling surfaces.

The walls and ceiling in the washroom, lined with plastic panels or clapboard, can look quite presentable.

The advantages of the material include:

  • affordable cost;
  • practicality;
  • resistance to high humidity;
  • ease of installation on a wooden lattice or adhesive base;
  • attractive appearance.

PVC casings have some disadvantages:

  • susceptibility to mechanical stress;
  • tendency to darkening and fading;
  • short service life;
  • low environmental friendliness.

Important! Plastic panels are mounted after installing waterproofing on wall and ceiling surfaces. All work is carried out only after the finished bath has shrunk, in order to prevent distortion and violation of the tightness of the lining.

Drywall and paints for ceilings and walls

Finishing the bath in the bath with plasterboard and water-repellent paint is possible if a closed shower is installed in the overall room. For small sinks, it is irrational to use such a cladding.

  • allows you to create a comfortable interior and beautiful design;
  • if the room allows, then you can accommodate a large group of people;
  • the shower cabin does not spoil the general atmosphere with its unusual appearance for this room.

  • horizontally;
  • vertically.

Modern saunas: quality finishes from floor to ceiling

Each owner of a private house or a good-quality summer cottage dreams of his own bath, this is the mentality of our people. And if the construction of the box, the arrangement of the roof and the external decoration of the bath, as a rule, are given to professionals, then the internal cladding is often done independently - such a useful hobby.

Today we will talk about what options for decorating a bath exist in general, and also tell you what you can do from this variety yourself and, most importantly, how to do it correctly.

Steam room as the main room

Decorating a bath is a rather serious thing, in addition to purely aesthetic appeal, a number of practical requirements are imposed on it, neglecting which you risk ruining your bath even before its grand opening.

Material selection

The question of how to decorate the walls in the bath is relevant only for auxiliary rooms or external cladding, we will talk about them later.

As for the steam room, no worthy alternatives to the Russian bath or sauna, natural wood have yet been invented.

  • The species of wood is of particular importance here. At the moment, linden is deservedly considered the most popular finishing material in the steam room. The reasonable price, high thermal insulation characteristics of the porous massif and light, even color made it a leader. Due to this, the boards, if desired, can be decorated with natural wood stain to imitate expensive wood species;
  • The second in the ranking is aspen. The price for it is certainly higher, but on the other hand, this wood species resists high humidity much better. And this quality in the steam room is considered almost the main one;

Important: when lining the walls and making sunbeds in the steam room, you should forget about conifers right away. The fact is that as soon as the temperature in the room rises above 40 ° C, such wood will begin to “cry”, that is, resin will flow from it. You understand that it is a very dubious pleasure to stick to a hot drop of resin.

  • Beautiful types of wood such as oak or walnut are good for. But to make sun loungers out of them is not worth it. Due to the high density, oak or walnut benches will get very hot. You can lay these rocks on the floor, because the temperature below rarely rises above 50 ° C, which is quite comfortable for barefoot walks;
  • For gourmets and lovers of exoticism, there is the overseas abasha tree. With its beautiful texture, moisture resistance and good thermal insulation data, this wood is almost ideal for a steam room. The only problem here is the high cost.

Tip: conifers have a subtle pleasant and very useful aroma, so they can be used to make a frame for lining and support posts for sun loungers. There, resin will not interfere with a pleasant stay, plus such a frame will cost much less.

  • An important point is high-quality thermal insulation. For its arrangement, soft mats made of basalt or mineral wool are usually used. Keep in mind that cheap glass wool is not suitable here, it will simply sinter at high temperatures;
  • A heat-reflecting foil layer is mounted between the layer of wood cladding and thermal insulation. Ideally, of course, it is better to immediately buy a special cotton wool with a foil-coated coating, but its price is too serious. Therefore, reinforced foil is mounted here, and adhesive tape from the same reinforced foil is used to connect the canvases.

Advice: from my own experience, I can advise you to take rolls of ordinary technical foil and mount it with an overlap of about 200 - 300 mm. In this case, the joints are located in the area of the crate. The cost will come out an order of magnitude cheaper, although this material is quite delicate and you need to work carefully so as not to break.

In addition, you need to stock up on mounting fittings for the lining for the future, as well as take care of wooden moldings, baseboards and other finishing materials.

Installing the frame

The first to be mounted on the walls of the steam room is a vapor barrier film. Moreover, if we are talking about a wooden bath, then it must be exactly a vapor barrier, so that the walls breathe. For brick and other block structures, you can use technical polyethylene.

It is impossible to waterproof the walls of the steam room with tar or any other materials based on bitumen. In addition to the fact that when the temperature rises, they can "float", the products of oil refining will evaporate when heated and release very toxic compounds.

A 50x50 mm bar is most often used for the crate, but this is not necessary, you can take even less. Although in this case it will be necessary to install load-bearing bars on wooden blocks or aluminum perforated awnings, with the help of such awnings, frames for drywall are also equipped.

The distance from the wall to the cut of the bearing bar is determined by the thickness of the insulation, often 50 - 100 mm. The structure is fixed on the wall with anchors.

Important: for the middle zone of our great homeland, internal insulation with a thickness of 50 mm is quite enough. In the northern regions, thicker mats should be taken or additional external insulation should be installed.

Further, the instruction looks something like this. Insulation mats are literally "shoved" between the guides. In order not to squeeze them back, over time, the mats on the wall can be fixed with plastic dowels-umbrellas or, using a strong thread and a stapler, over the wooden lathing, pull a kind of "lacing", with a step of about 200 mm.

On top of the insulated lathing, a layer of reinforced or ordinary foil is attached. Accordingly, on the reinforced canvas, the joints are glued with tape, and the usual foil is covered with an overlap. All this beauty is fixed with a stapler.

Both with internal and external cladding, the lining should not be closely nailed to the base. In this case, the so-called ventilated facade technology is used for installation, i.e. with a gap between the cladding and the base. Otherwise, the tree will deteriorate.

To do this, a wooden counter-lathing is stuffed onto the bearing rails. The bar is taken here 20x20 mm or 10x20 mm. Theoretically, a gap of 10 mm between the lining and the base is sufficient for ventilation, but the centimeter bar can crack when the lining is installed.

Step-by-step installation of cladding in the steam room

Important: the lathing in the steam room is mounted exclusively vertically, since the wall decoration in the bath with clapboard should be performed only horizontally.

  • At first glance, the vertical installation of lining strips is beneficial, because dust does not accumulate in the joints and moisture does not linger, it is easier to handle and clean, but this is true for all rooms, except for the steam room;
  • As you know, in a steam room, the difference between the temperature below and the temperature at the ceiling can reach up to 100 ° C. As a result, the vertically fixed bar heats up unevenly and serious internal stresses arise in it, which leads to deformation and cracks. Horizontal mounting avoids these troubles;

  • The problem of moisture ingress is solved simply, the strips are installed downward with a groove. It is more convenient to carry out such an installation from the top of the ceiling. The starting bar along the upper edge is rigidly attached with galvanized nails to the crate, here it is important to set it strictly in level, otherwise the entire wall will go skewed. Do not worry about the nail heads, they will later be covered with a ceiling plinth;
  • The visa bar is fixed with a galvanized clasp. Previously, a nail was hammered into the groove side or a self-tapping screw was driven into, but with such a fastening, thin sides often cracked. With the advent of kleimers, everything has become much simpler, faster and more reliable. The kleimers are worth mere pennies, so you don't even need to try to fix the bar with nails, without experience it will be difficult;

  • Further, the spike of the next bar is inserted into the groove until it stops, which is also fixed at the bottom with clamps. And so, until the entire wall is sewn up to the bottom.

Important: the tree will expand with changes in temperature and humidity, so a damper gap is left around the perimeter, which is then closed with plinths. But if 20 - 30 mm is enough on the top and sides, then near the floor this gap should be about 50 mm. The humidity is highest there.

How to process wood

Wood finishing options for the bathhouse can be different. But, no matter what the room you are facing, the wood needs protection. For those who do not trust serial protective compounds, it is advisable to process it in the old-fashioned way, which must be applied at least 3 times.

The recipe is simple, flaxseed or any other refined vegetable oil is used to impregnate the wood. For aroma, the oil can be infused for 2 weeks on mint or pine needles. Here, a glass of the composition is taken for half a liter of oil. You need to insist in a dark room and shake it periodically.

Beeswax mastic is prepared in a water bath. The main components are all the same linseed oil and beeswax, in a 1: 5 ratio (one part of wax and five parts of oil). The only weak point of self-made home compositions is that they need to process the tree about once every six months.

But now there are many factory protective compounds from trusted manufacturers. Finnish Tikkurila is considered the leader among foreigners. The Finns offer Supi Sauna for wood treatment in washing and steam rooms. Our craftsmen have released "SENEZH Sauna", which still has an increased bio-protective effect.

For ceilings, a remedy is proposed called Supi Saunasuoya, all from the same Tikkurila. The tree in the dressing room or the rest room can be treated with Ässä or domestic, SENEZH Aquadecor, which, according to the manufacturers, contains natural beeswax.

Facing of auxiliary rooms

In addition to the steam room itself, any bath must have a shower room and a dressing room, which is often equipped as a relaxation room. If the arrangement of the dressing room is not much different from the cladding of ordinary rooms, then finishing the washroom in the bath requires a more serious approach.

How and how to decorate the washing room

Decorating a washing room in a bath is difficult, primarily because this room has perhaps the highest humidity. Hence the materials should be used appropriately. Wood cladding is in perfect harmony with the steam room, but there are some nuances here.

As in the steam room, it is better to mount the planks horizontally. Only here it is due to the fact that there is a higher humidity from below and, like a tree, do not process it, it will deteriorate there faster. With a horizontal arrangement, you have the opportunity every few years, if necessary, to replace part of the lower sector. Otherwise, you will have to change the entire cladding.

When choosing a wood species, one should be guided, first of all, by moisture resistance, the temperature in the washing room does not rise above 45 ° C. Of course, the best option would be to install aspen or larch, but they are expensive. As an average option, you can take a cedar, but most often they mount pine or spruce. In this case, the high resin content protects against moisture.

As for the installation technology, it is practically no different from the clapboard clapboard of the steam room. Only here it is not necessary to install a foil screen; instead, dense technical polyethylene is used. Plus, insulation can be made cheaper by replacing mineral wool with ordinary foam plates. Moreover, they also do not get wet, and the gaps between the plates are sealed with polyurethane foam.

The second, much more practical option is to decorate the sink in the bath with ceramic tiles. This is a sealed, comfortable, and most importantly strong and durable coating. The whole difficulty lies in arranging a good base for the tiles.

When it comes to walls, block walls or piers are ideal. In this case, it is not so important whether it will be a brick or other types of blocks. But such piers cannot always be folded in a wooden bath, they are quite heavy.

Although our people have found an excellent way out of this situation. Thick, 12 mm or more, waterproof plywood is installed as a load-bearing base.

On the walls, it is attached to the crate, and during the construction of the walls, it is enough to rigidly fix such a shield on the floor and on the ceiling. After that, sheets of expanded polystyrene are glued to the plywood from one or both sides.

Both expanded polystyrene and moisture-resistant plywood can be covered with tiles, but in view of the large mass of the structure, one glue may not be enough, it is advisable to screw the plates to the base with dowels with wide washers.

Tip: you can reduce the cost of building a wall in the shower room by using foam. Only in addition to the good fixation of the sheets themselves, they will need to be primed and a fiberglass mesh to glue with a starting putty composition. Otherwise, the tile will not stick to the foam.

The tile laying technology is traditionally the same everywhere. Before installation, the tile is soaked, and a primer is applied to the base. Cement-sand mortar is now practically not used, for this there is a special moisture-resistant glue, which is applied with a notched trowel, both on the base and on the tile itself, only in different directions.

After that, the tile is gently pressed to the base, the excess glue is wiped off, and even gaps between the plates are ensured by installing several plastic crosses around the perimeter. After a couple of days, when the glue dries, the crosses are removed and the cracks are covered with a special moisture-resistant colored grout.

Decorating the shower room with plastic panels, in our opinion, is a mistake. Of all the advantages, such a cladding has only a low price. PVC panels are hollow, and in warmth and with high humidity in these cells, some kind of living creature is sure to start. Plus, their mechanical strength is poor.

But if you nevertheless decide to revet your shower room with plastic, then its installation can be carried out both according to the clapboard cladding technology, the joining system for these materials is similar, or by gluing the plastic on a flat base like a tile. Liquid glass is used here as an adhesive.

Arrangement of floor and ceiling

The decoration in the bathhouse on the walls does not end there. An equally important point is the competent arrangement of the floor and ceiling. From a technological point of view, the ceiling is a little easier to make.

Facing a concrete slab with clapboard is performed in almost the same way as wall decoration. Only on the walls in the steam room the distance between the guides is about half a meter, and on the ceiling this step should not exceed 250 mm. This is due to the need for a more thorough fixation of the insulation and the foil layer.

If the ceiling is mounted on wooden logs, then the technique will be slightly different. In the case when basalt or mineral wool will be used for insulation, it is advisable to fix the foil in 2 layers on the bottom of the logs, on top of which the lathing is stuffed under the lining and the strips are mounted.

Cotton wool between the lags, fit last. It is light enough and is not capable of damaging the foil. In other rooms, polyethylene is used instead of foil.

But it is much cheaper to insulate with expanded clay. Only in this case, the logs from the bottom are hemmed with a non-edged board, you can, of course, hemmed with a planed board, but this will be an order of magnitude more expensive. Foil is attached to the ceiling flooring in the steam room, the planks are stuffed and the lining is installed.

Ideally, it is better to cover the cells between the lags with foil, but if this is expensive for you, then you can use asbestos or fiberglass cloth. Expanded clay is poured over the entire depth from above. As you can imagine, for the rest of the premises, everything is done the same way, only without foil under the clapboard.

With floors, everything is more serious, because they will be under stress. To begin with, the floor in the steam room is often made 150-200 mm higher than the floor in the shower room.

If the base is a concrete slab, then it is carefully waterproofed with an approach to the walls. Here, bitumen can be safely used for waterproofing. And it is better to immediately equip roll waterproofing.

A layer of thermal insulation must be installed on top. This is especially important as it will be very difficult to heat a bath with a cold concrete floor. Extruded polystyrene foam is good, but it is expensive to use as floor insulation. Now it is best to insulate a concrete slab with foam concrete.

Important: just do not confuse foam concrete with aerated concrete. If in the first case the material is not afraid of water and can even float, then additional powerful waterproofing will be required for aerated concrete, since it absorbs moisture.

After laying the foam concrete blocks on a special mortar, you will only have to fill in the reinforced concrete screed with a thickness of about 20 - 30 mm and, after it hardens, you can start installing the floor tiles.

Advice: in bath rooms where tiled, clinker or other floor tiles are laid on the floor, “transparent” wooden ladders should be laid on top of it. This will prevent you, your family or your guests from slipping. Plus, this approach is more hygienic, because the ladders can always be removed, washed, disinfected, dried and put back.

Installation of a wooden floor along the joists resembles the arrangement of the ceiling. As indicated in the diagram, small support bars with a section of approximately 40x40 mm are stuffed onto the logs below.

The subfloor is laid and fixed on these bars. For him, as a rule, an unedged board is taken. The remaining space is filled with expanded clay. You can, of course, use polystyrene, but expanded clay is better in terms of ventilation, and then it is cheaper.

The finishing floor is made of grooved boards with a thickness of at least 40 mm. Previously, it was docked in a thorn-groove system and nailed to the lags. Now nails have been replaced by kleimers. The principle of such an installation is identical to clapboard cladding.

There are two options for the shower floor. It is easier to install a shower stall with a tray, and make the rest of the space even.

But it is more practical to mount an inclined tile floor, at the corner bottom point of which a drain is installed. By the way, in the steam room, the tiled floor is also made with a slope, and the drain is connected to the shower drain.

To equip such an inclined structure on a concrete base, after installing the insulation, metal beacons are installed, and an inclined screed is drawn along them, which is then tiled.

In wooden baths, you will have to mount inclined logs. Asbestos-cement slabs or sheets of waterproof plywood are attached to these logs. Then you can start tiling the floor with tiles.

Dressing room

There are no special restrictions on materials for arranging a dressing room. The only weak point here is the wall bordering the steam room. After all, if the bath is on wood, then the firebox comes out from this side.

But even with electric heating elements, it is not recommended to sheathe this wall with wood, and even more so with plastic. Only tiles or facing bricks are used here. Alternatively, you can still plaster.

Important: all facing materials that will be used to decorate the wall adjacent to the steam room must be heat-resistant. After all, ordinary tiles or plaster can crack or change color.

Output

To equip a bathhouse from the inside with your own hands for a talented person who knows how to confidently use the instrument is a completely solvable task. Some moments of such work are clearly demonstrated in the video in this article. And if this is not enough, then write in the comments, we will try to help in solving your problem.

The step of the frame slats is taken equal to 40-50 cm.

  • ceramic tile;
  • natural or artificial stone;
  • plastic panels.

When choosing a cladding method, it is important to consider several material requirements:

  • moisture resistance;
  • resistance to high temperatures;
  • environmental friendliness;

  • preparation of the foundation;
  • waterproofing;
  • cement screed over the mesh;
  • applying glue to stone and wall;
  • gluing the finish with checking the levelness of the level;
  • grouting.

PVC panels

Decorating a shower room in a wooden bath with plastic panels is a possible option. This is also true for brick or concrete buildings. But before making a final decision, you need to carefully weigh the pros and cons. The advantages of plastic panels include:

  • availability;
  • low cost;
  • ease of installation;
  • light weight;
  • ease of care.

The disadvantages include:

  • fragility;
  • low strength;

  • preparation of the base (when finishing the ceiling - plaster);
  • fixing waterproofing;
  • installation of the lathing (the same as for wooden lining);

  • wood varnish (renewed every 5-7 years);
  • toning (every 2 years);
  • oil (once a month).
