The advantages of a folding accordion are obvious. They are ideal for small spaces as they take up little space. Such door structures have a varied appearance, so they can be used in rooms with a wide variety of functional purposes. In addition, the accordion is quite simple, and does not require special experience and

dexterity. The design of the accordion, which is a combination of folding book doors and ordinary blinds, may differ in some details, but some elements are necessarily present in all variants, without exception. The presence of an upper guide rail, rollers and stoppers is standard.

The installation of the accordion begins with the assembly of the plates (lamellas), if they are sold not assembled. As a rule, the connection of the plates is carried out on a rod, practically the same as at the door of the book. The number of plates directly depends on the width of the doorway. After all the plates are connected into one whole canvas, on its right side, according to the instructions for the accordion, you need to fix the side locking panel, and on the left you need to fix the side fixing panel. Both of these panels are attached to the canvas by means of strips, for fixing which stoppers are used. Now you need to install the runners (rollers). They need to begin to be fastened from the lock panel, through one plate. Finally, we mount the magnetic lock on the side lock panel.

Then you can start cutting the guides. The length of the top rail must match the width of the doorway, and the side rail must be 25 mm less than the height of the doorway. After all the guides are cut, you can proceed to fastening them. First, we attach the upper rail at the top of the doorway using 1 fastening screw. Such a rough (light) fixation of the guide rail is necessary for easy insertion of the rollers into it. After all the rollers are inserted into the groove of the upper guide, the rail is aligned strictly along the opening and firmly fixed with screws. Now you can start attaching the side rails. They are also cr

They attach themselves to the doorway with screws. Then the side fixing panel is fixed with a clip (docking rail) in one side rail, and on the other (from the side of the side lock panel) the second part of the magnetic lock is fastened with screws.

Usually an accordion does not cause difficulties, it is enough to have detailed instructions at hand. However, if, after reading the instructions, you still have little idea of what you need to do, then you can watch the installation tutorial video, of which there are quite a few on the Internet. And even better if you turn to professionals for help, since the quality and durability of the entire door system largely depends on the quality of the installation.

Instructions for installing the accordion door:

1. Measure the height and width of the doorway. If the opening width is greater than 88.5 cm, calculate the required amount of additional

body panels.

2. The length of the side profile is equal to the height h minus 2.5 cm.

3. Shorten the door panels to the required length. The length of the panels is equal to the height h minus 4 cm.

4. Drill holes for horizontal fastening.

5. Install one screw and hang the door panels.

6. Fasten the top horizontal rail.

7. Clipping the side profile of the door into the guide.

8. Install the lock.

Installing the accordion door

Folding accordion doors are good because they take up very little space. They are installed in wide doorways, where double doors are usually used, in built-in wardrobes and niches. As a rule, they have a similar design: a door, consisting of two narrow leaves hinged together, slides along the upper rail. The accordion door can be bought ready-made or made from two louvered doors. And you can install the accordion door yourself. We will tell you how to install an accordion door with your own hands.
Process:

We measure the width of the wardrobe (or door frame - depending on where you want to install the door) along the top and cut the rail to size. If the fastening hole was on the cut part of the rail, drill a new one with a twist drill.
Using the mounting holes as guides, drill holes in the underside of the top panel of the wardrobe and fix the rail. Install the receiving latch on the left side of the rail.
Following the instructions, we outline the position of the axis on the upper end on the left side of the door. With a drill of the same diameter as the axis, we drill a hole in the end face along the depth of the part. We insert the axis so that its top protrudes above the end. Set the lower axis in the same way.
Attach the heel plate in place in the lower left corner of the wardrobe. Once the doors have been hinged, they can be aligned vertically and horizontally using the included wrench to adjust the bottom foot and retaining screws in its plate.
We outline the position of the guide on the upper end on the right side of the door. Drill holes along the diameter of the guide fitting and install the guide.
We attach the loops. This is done from the back of the doors. We put one door next to the other, leaving a gap of 3 mm between them. We place three hinges along the doors at the same interval, mark the positions of the mounting holes, drill them and fix the hinges.
We install the doorknob in the center of the right door - this location will allow you to open and fold the door in one motion.
Then we proceed directly to the installation of the doors: we fold them and insert the lower axis into the receiving plate at the bottom of the cabinet. Then we insert the upper axis and the guide into the rail and move the door to the cabinet wall so that the upper axis is fixed in the rail receiving latch. If everything is done correctly, the door can be used.

Assembly order

1 . Cut the top rail to the exact size of the doorway
(detail 1c) and fasten with one screw.

2. Rotate the top guide around the screw axis so that the door panel runners can be inserted.
3. Insert the door panel into the upper rail so that the runners (parts 7) fit into the groove. Pre-lubricate the runners with technical vaseline or any other thick grease.

4 . Turn the top guide back to its original position and fasten it to the second screw.

5 . Cut the side rails (parts 1a, 16) exactly to the size of the doorway and fasten them with screws (part 11). When installing the side rails, you must use a plumb line or level.

6. Guide the door panel into the left (right) rail and snap in the docking strip (parts 1a and 2).

7. Dismantling is carried out in the reverse order.

Folding doors are becoming more and more popular every year. They are used in country houses and apartments, office and utility rooms. This is because folding structures have the following advantages:

  1. Possibility to save space. They can be folded at any time, so they practically do not take up useful space.
  2. Simple mechanism. The accordion doors include panels, fasteners and guide profiles. You can collect them yourself. There is no need to use building materials and carry out finishing works.
  3. Versatility. There is no limit on the number of panels. The only thing that should be guided by is ease of use. After all, too bulky structures are difficult to use.

Among the disadvantages that are inherent in the accordion door are:

  1. Low level of noise isolation.
  2. Short-term use. This is due to the fact that the composition includes moving parts that wear out due to frequent use.
  3. The need for frequent repairs. Folding mechanisms periodically jam. Most often this happens if too large sizes of the accordion interior door are chosen.

To use folding doors longer, you need to carefully select the model.

The folding door system includes a set of lamellas in the form of a leaf or with glass inserts, guide profiles and hinges. To simplify the process of moving, rollers are introduced into the composition, which are located on the extreme flaps. They move along the profiles at the time of opening and folding of the structure. Rollers are supplemented with bearings from quality raw materials. Therefore, the opening and closing process is completely silent.

Varieties of folding doors

Interior folding doors are classified according to two parameters:

  • materials used for manufacturing;
  • registration.

For the manufacture of folding structures, wood, hardened glass and plastic are used. Each option has its own characteristics and strengths.

Accordion door made of wood

The demand for wooden accordion doors is high, since the structures are distinguished by their reliability and durability. All elements are treated with impregnations and chemicals. The hinges included in the composition are made of alloys with a certain margin of safety. They do not provoke deformation of wood elements and temperature fluctuations.

Before installing folding timber structures in the kitchen, you need to check the degree of their protection. If the main elements are processed with a poor-quality composition, then under the influence of moisture they will begin to deform.

Plastic door accordion

Constant stress on plastic panels contributes to a reduction in the useful life. With moderate operation, the service life of plastic accordion doors reaches 10-12 months. The main advantage of this design is its low cost. Plastic folding doors can be used as a partition.

Glass accordion door

For the manufacture of the base for the door with an accordion, folding glass is rarely used, since its integrity is easy to break. The cost of glass models is several times higher than the cost of analogs made of wood or plastic. To reduce the cost, manufacturers combine glass with other materials, which also contributes to the strengthening of the structure. Glass doors are decorated using special films, varnishes or sandblasting equipment.

Features of the selection of the model

Since the range of folding doors is huge, it is sometimes difficult to navigate. You can simplify the process if you are guided by the following rules when selecting a model:

Stages of installing the accordion door

Before assembling the accordion door, you need to check the equipment. The following items must be in stock:

  • guide profile (their number depends on the selected door model).
  • fasteners.
  • slats.
  • rollers.
  • adjusting key.

The manufacturers do not include trims in the kit, so they should be purchased immediately.

Before purchasing an accordion door, you need to take measurements. This will make it possible to purchase a model with the required characteristics.

Installation of a folding interior door consists of several stages. It is important to follow their order.

  1. Preparation and fastening of the guide. If necessary, prepare additional holes for fasteners. The distance between the holes should be 25-30 cm.
  2. Installation of panels. On one side, the guide profile is supplemented with a latch onto which the end of the panel and the roller are brought. Then the guide is fixed.
  3. Assembling the door leaf. To connect the structure together, holes are formed on the panels and fixing loops are installed in them. The lamellas are placed in the sequence in which they will be installed. For simplicity, the first and last panels are labeled. The distance between the panels should be 3-4 mm. Before installing the fasteners, check the mechanism for the accordion door again to eliminate misalignment.
  4. Installation of the canvas. The panels assembled in the form of an accordion are folded and placed in the grooves of the guide. Their position is necessarily checked and corrected. This process is carried out using an adjusting key.

After installation, the operation of the roller mechanism for accordion doors is checked. If necessary, dismantle, correct errors and re-fix the door leaf.

During the installation of the door leaf, it is necessary to be guided not only by general recommendations. Each model comes with an instruction manual, in which the manufacturers describe in detail the assembly, fastening and installation process.

Simple and quick installation of the accordion door - video

Non-standard solution for installing an accordion door - video

There is not so much space in city apartments. This is especially true for houses rebuilt under the USSR. In such apartments, hinged interior doors are installed. The disadvantage is that they require a certain amount of space to open. It's good when there is a lot of space, but what to do when every square meter counts? Installing an accordion door will help to solve the problem of a lack of space. This is a modern solution that will significantly save space in the apartment.

It should be noted that this is not just an interior door. Many models look so impressive that they become the main components of the design. These structures are made from a variety of materials. Manufacturers complete these solutions with a set of fasteners and everything you need to install an accordion door.

Characteristic

This design is a system consisting of several vertically installed lamellas. The latter are connected into a single piece by means of loops. Visually, such a door resembles corrugated blinds.

When the door is open, its constituent elements (lamellas) fold like bellows on an accordion. To make the movement of the lamellas and the door leaf as smooth as possible, and all the elements are in parallel, special synchronizing parts are used in the design. In order for the mechanism to be fixed in a certain position, the system is equipped with special locking flags.

As for the design, the installation of an accordion door is not suitable for every interior. But if you choose the right model, then the room can acquire unique features.

What is needed for installation? Materials (edit)

Most manufacturers complete their products with a set of necessary fasteners and accessories. Better and more expensive solutions have several spare guides, with the help of which it becomes possible to install an accordion door in wide openings.

As for the necessary materials, you need to purchase what you need in the process of preparing the opening. These are any extras, as well as platbands that fit. It is important that the material is at least 15 millimeters thick. It can easily support the weight of the door structure and all operational loads.

Instruments

For installation work, you need an impact drill or perforator, measuring tools, a plumb line with a level, a hacksaw, an angle, a miter box, and foam. The latter will require several cylinders. It is desirable that it is of proper quality.

Preparing the doorway

Installation of interior accordion doors is quite possible in an already existing opening directly inside the door frame. But in this way its width will be reduced. It is much better to dismantle the old door completely and remove the mortar under the frame to the ground. Next, measurements are taken and checked against the nominal dimensions of the doors and the number of elements in them. This list must be included in the installation instructions. When checking the dimensions, it is important to remember the width of the extensions.

So you can find out whether you need to expand the opening or, conversely, reduce its size with the help of foam and extensions. The latter are cut in such a way that the result is a box without a threshold. The upper part is fixed with the end parts to the upper edge on the vertical extensions. Then the structure is fastened with self-tapping screws.

After making the box, the element is inserted into the opening and, using wooden blocks, as well as wedges and various substrates, is fixed. To install the box more reliably, select several bars, the width of which is equal to the opening. These spacers are installed at the top, in the center of the box, and at the bottom. This is done in order to exclude deformation of the extensions during installation. Anchor bolts of great length are used to attach the extension to the base of the wall. Install three on each side and two at the top.

When the anchors are installed, proceed to foaming the gap between the wall and the box. After the foam has dried, you can proceed to installing the accordion door. It is quite possible to do it with your own hands.

Installation of guide rails

In order to calculate everything correctly, you should start with the installation of guide structural elements and other fasteners. The door system kit always has a profile, which is a guide. As indicated in the instructions, you should first measure the desired length of the profile - the excess part is cut off. It is best to use a miter box for this. Then the cut will be as even as possible.

They also cut a guide for mounting a blind door element and a counterpart from the handle side. Further, all measurements are checked again, but they do it by attaching a profile - it is too early to fix it. Holes for self-tapping screws are pre-drilled in the guide. Holes are made in the upper rail every 5-7 millimeters. On the side elements - every 15-20 centimeters.

If the guide is mounted using special fasteners-clips, then immediately proceed to their installation along the perimeter of the opening. Often, the same elements are used for the upper part and the profile. On the side where the groove and the lock will be, use clips of smaller sizes.

The upper rail is mounted in such a way that the fasteners are located no further than 5-7 centimeters from each other. On the side parts, 4 or 5 clips are enough evenly in height.

Assembly of the canvas, installation of rollers

Each strip, of which the canvas will consist, is cut so that they are equal to each other and are similar in height to the opening. The instruction for installing the accordion door recommends taking into account the margin for the roller system, which is inserted into the upper guide. The lower part should have a ventilation gap of no more than 10 millimeters.

In simple cases, plastic strips are connected using grooves or spacers. Two parts are displaced and joined by edges, and then one element is pulled along the other. In MDF doors, the strips of the canvas are connected to each other by means of an axis, which is passed in turn through special lugs on each element of the canvas.

After the canvas is assembled, you need to install fittings on the product, as well as rollers. Everything must be done strictly according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

Final assembly process, fasteners

All that remains is to put the accordion folding interior door. Do-it-yourself installation involves threading the rollers into the profile rail. When everything is inserted into place, the structure is folded and placed in the central part of the profile. This makes it easier to perform fasteners in the door opening.

If clips are used for fasteners, then the rail simply snaps onto them. If necessary, use a hammer to fully click into place.

If there are no clips included, then self-tapping screws should be used. They first attach the profile along the edges, and then along its entire length.

Next, the side profiles of the structure are installed and fixed. Then the blind part of the web is fixed to the profile. At this point, it is recommended to check how easy the door walks and how tightly it adheres to the counter element.

If the blade runs smoothly and fits well, then you can proceed to installing the handle. When the door is closed, in the step-by-step instructions for installing accordion doors, it is recommended to mark the point where the counter element of the lock is located. A latch with a magnet is further screwed into it.

Testament stage

When everything is securely fixed and the checks have shown that everything is working, they begin to install the platbands around the perimeter of the door frame. They need to be installed on both sides. Cut the excess with a hacksaw, thereby limiting the length. Attach these products to liquid or furniture nails.

This completes the installation. Now you can feel all the benefits that the installation of accordion doors gives. The price of the construction is low (from 2200 rubles), and the effect of the installation is noticeable. You can immediately see how such a door saves precious free space.

So, we have figured out how to independently install an accordion-type door.

When starting to furnish the interior, the question of optimizing the space in the room often arises. Among our compatriots, making such a decision is becoming more and more popular. The accordion doors will help to cope with this. Their name speaks for itself, the presence of an opening and closing mechanism is the main feature of these doors. In interior doors such as an accordion, hinges are not used. When opening, the door does not interfere or touch other objects. It neatly folds into an accordion, thereby opening the passage.

For many, the accordion door is associated with cheapness, when the use of doors in small-sized dwellings made it possible to save much-needed square meters of space. It is important to note that today the installation of accordion doors is part of the design and creation of a unique interior, and not a need to increase the functionality of the room.

What are accordion doors made of?

For the manufacture of such doors, MDF and PVC are used. At first glance, the differences are so insignificant that they are simply not paid attention to. The appearance is very attractive and harmonious in both forms. Plastic is a very light material, it is not susceptible to rapid contamination and damage, so its service life is quite long. The lightness of plastic can be both a plus and a minus of this product, because with prolonged use, there is a feeling that the door is loose. It is worth noting that in the modern production of PVC lamellas, stiffeners are used, so the door may only appear flimsy in appearance, while in reality it is not. It is much easier to install plastic accordion doors than from MDF. Its elements can be fastened together manually, they can be easily adjusted to the required size of the doorway. Also, they are very easy to configure and eliminate small errors that are possible during installation.

The door made of MDF is more massive, which creates some inconvenience in use. It requires careful strengthening to the base. A big plus, in comparison with a plastic door, is excellent sound insulation, as well as stability. During installation, the complexity can cause the weight of the door, so all dimensions and levels must be strictly observed.

The accordion door is a rather simple design, which consists of panels of various widths, connected to each other. The outer panel is attached to the door jamb, and on the other side is attached a roller that will move along the rail. The rails are fastened to the top of the jamb. The sashes are fixed in the open and closed position by means of stoppers. Bearings allow for quiet and easy handling.

What is needed to install accordion doors

Accessories and fittings are sold with the door. It is very important to purchase the necessary materials for the doorway. It can be platbands and any extras. Pay attention to the thickness - it must be at least 15 mm, as it must withstand the load and weight of the door. Prepare the tools required for installation in advance. For this you will need:

  • impact drill;
  • for sizing, tape measure;
  • level, as well as a plumb line;
  • puncher (if there is a need to expand the opening);
  • miter box;
  • hacksaw for wood;
  • building corner;
  • wooden blocks;
  • foam for installation (polyurethane).

Preparing the doorway

Before starting installation work, you need to prepare the door opening. First of all, dismantle the old doors and loot, if necessary, knock down the solution under it to the ground. Calculate the measurements of this opening. Following the instructions, decide on the dimensions of the accordion door, then it will become clear to you what to do next: expand or reduce the width of the opening.

We form a box of pre-prepared additions, the nut is not needed here. The upper crossbar is attached to the upper edge of the vertically located extensions, with their ends, attracting them with self-tapping screws.

The finished box is installed in the opening. For this, wooden substrates are used as wedges. Complements are attached to the wall with anchors, two on top and three on the sides.

Plastic accordion doors

After fixing the anchors, blow out the formed gap with polyurethane foam. As soon as it dries up, proceed with the installation of the accordion door.

How to set guides

As part of the accessories for the door there is a profile called a guide. So that the dimensions are accurate, it is with the guides and we will begin the installation of the doors. We measure the length of the profile and cut off the excess. Use a miter box, then the cut will be almost perfect.

In the same way, we measure and cut the profile, which will serve as a fastener for the blind part of the door leaf. We apply it and adjust it to size. We drill holes with a diameter of 3 mm for self-tapping screws in the profile. At the top, the distance between them will be 5 - 7 cm on the side 15 - 20 cm.

We collect the door leaf

At this stage, we start assembling the canvas itself. For this, we use the plates that are included in the door kit. Sometimes this is not necessary, since the door can be sold assembled. But if you still have to do everything yourself, then you will have to try. The plates are attached with a rod, their number is determined by the width of the doorway. Having assembled the door into a single structure, we install the lock panel on the right side, and the fixing side panel on the other side. Their installation is carried out using strips, which are fixed with stoppers. Next, set the sliders. From the lock panel through one, fastenings alternate. And finally, a magnetic lock is installed on the accordion door from the side of the lock panel.

MDF doors are assembled a little differently. Here the strips are interconnected by a long axis, which must be passed through special holes on all parts. After completing the door assembly, as in the version with a plastic door, we install the rollers and mount the necessary fittings. All this will be easy to do if you strictly follow the instructions attached to the product.

Completing the assembly and securing

When everything is completely assembled, there is only one concern left, this is the installation of the accordion door into the prepared frame of the doorway. The rollers located on the door leaf are inserted into the grooves of the guide profile. After inserting the door, it must be folded in the center of the opening. This is the most convenient location for further installation.

The guide is fastened with self-tapping screws, along the entire length, observing a distance of 5 - 7 cm. Next, we attach the side profiles, reinforcing the blind part of the door to the desired profile. It is necessary to check the ease of opening and closing the doors, as well as the adherence of the door to the profile, from the side where the handle is located. The fit should be snug.

The final stage

When all the installation work has been done, it is necessary to install the platbands around the entire door perimeter. Using a miter box and a hacksaw, we adjust the platbands, trimming the excess at an angle of 45 degrees. You can attach the platbands using liquid nails or ordinary furniture. At this stage, the installation of the doors is completely completed. The same method is used to install a book-door.

Modern models of accordion doors are not only an element for dividing space, but also an effective design component. They are made from various materials, decorated in different styles, which is clearly demonstrated by the photo. Sell doors with a set of fasteners and spare parts. The installation can be performed by representatives of the company, but after reading our step-by-step instructions, watching the thematic video and reading the reviews, you will understand that it is not difficult to assemble the door with your own hands.

What are accordion sliding doors

Accordion doors are a system consisting of individual vertical lamellas with a width of 10 to 15 cm, connected into one leaf by means of small strong hinges. Visually, they are similar to corrugated blinds.

The guide, to which all the panels are attached, as a rule, is located on top, less often, but still another option is found - the bottom location. If there is a wide doorway, an accordion door is installed, consisting of 2 canvases. In the open state, all elements are folded like an accordion bellows. Smooth movement and parallelism of elements in relation to each other are provided by special synchronizers. Fixation of the web in the required position is carried out by means of stoppers-flags.

Usually, the design includes 3-4 sections, but in the case of a non-standard doorway, manufacturers complete the door with additional panels. The main feature of the door is to preserve space, which is especially important for small rooms, where even an extra area of 1m² matters.

This is not to say that accordion sliding doors look organic in any interior. But if the choice is made correctly, then the room takes on individual features. Moreover, you can buy not only a solid door, but also with inserts: glass, stained-glass windows, metal frames. The designs can even be completely mirrored or glass. Among them there are also models that are controlled automatically.

Attention: accordion doors made of glass, wood, MDF are quite heavy, therefore, the load on the roller structure is appropriate, and this affects the service life. Plastic "accordions" are lightweight and serve for a long time.

Folding doors accordion plastic

There are several types of plastic "accordions" and each of them differs in its design:

  • The door leaf is assembled from one side. When installing this version of the door, the composite sheet is inserted into a pair of guides.
  • The structure is hidden in the wall. In this case, the sashes go into the plasterboard wall, so the installation of this model is possible only with a special design.
  • A model like a book. There are only 2 sections of the same size, folding once.

Plastic accordion options have their own characteristics and should be considered when choosing:

  1. The joints between PVC strips are also made of plastic. Therefore, the fewer the folding fragments, the longer the door will last.
  2. Plastic models have low rates of heat and sound insulation, but they are good for highlighting individual zones.
  3. When mounting a plastic "accordion", set the guides strictly horizontally, otherwise the hinges, roller mechanisms and feet will wear out quickly.

Wooden doors accordion

Light wood is used for manufacturing, usually pine. Natural wood is combined with glass inserts, MDF, stained-glass windows. Due to the design features of the system, the wooden sections are not very thick, so they are not very heavy.

To fix the inserts in the panels, grooves are provided, and they are additionally reinforced with glazing beads. Use "accordions" made of wood as interroom, partitions, for dressing rooms.

The wooden frame of the accordion doors has high aesthetic properties, in addition, in comparison with other materials, it is more durable. In addition to the massif, glued laminated timber is used for the manufacture of the frame. It is lighter, and is not subject to shrinkage, and does not deform, therefore, the sliding structure made of it is reliable, stable and practical.

The advantages of wooden accordion doors include:

  • functionality;
  • mobility;
  • noiselessness;
  • ease of installation;
  • decorativeness;
  • environmental friendliness.

The disadvantage is low moisture resistance and not so great durability as in swing counterparts.

Main characteristics of glass, aluminum, PVC accordion doors

Accordion doors made of glass look impressive: light, stylish, filling the room with light. They look harmonious both in a classic interior and in the most modern design. All glass, they are a cross between blinds and a folding door.

PVC plastic is an excellent material for accordion doors. It does not burn, is moisture resistant, does not emit poisons when heated, so the door can be installed in any room.

Step-by-step instructions for assembling accordion doors

It is not difficult to assemble and install accordion doors. They are accompanied by fasteners and spare parts. Manufacturers necessarily add spare stripes to expensive models in case the door has to be extended. The installation process itself consists of the following steps:

Advice. When screwing in self-tapping screws, material damage often occurs. To avoid this, first make the holes using a smaller drill and then install the fasteners.

Accordion doors are a wonderful alternative to swing doors. They not only save space, but can also become a highlight of the interior.
