Wooden fence with a gate and a wicket. Village gates photos - how to make beautiful semi-antique carved gates from wood with your own hands Do-it-yourself carved wood gates

“My home is my castle,” many private house owners believe; supporters of this opinion, as a rule, enclose their territory with a solid high fence. But such a fence does not look very aesthetically pleasing, despite the fact that a large assortment of modern materials leaves the owner a large choice. A blank fence creates a feeling of a closed space, the closedness of the owners of the site. For those who care not to isolate themselves from the world, a wooden fence made using the technique of wood carving will be an excellent solution to designating a personal territory.

Carved fence

You can make a wooden fence with your own hands according to samples - it will give your home individuality and will not leave indifferent your neighbors and guests. The house behind the original openwork fence will look especially welcoming, shaping your image as a host. Nowadays, forged fences are in great fashion - but the carved fence is in no way inferior to them in beauty. If you want the fence of your site not only to create the illusion of protection from the outside world, but also to be a wonderful decorative decoration - choose a carved fence.

The advantages of such a fence:

  • A carved fence will fit any type of house and any design of a personal plot;
  • A wooden fence is easy to keep clean;
  • If you wish, you can do all the work yourself, wood carving is an interesting creative process.
  • The carved fence is easy to install; this work can also be done by yourself;
  • Carved fences are inexpensive and suitable for anyone;
  • The environmental friendliness of the material used does not harm the environment;
  • You can independently experiment with varnishes and paints of different colors and textures to give your fence a personality.

Which wood to choose?

The cheapest material is wood-laminated board, or plywood. To work with it, two tools are enough - a hacksaw for metal and a file with fine teeth.

If you want your fence to look expensive and stylish, choose valuable wood as a starting material:

  • Trees such as poplar, maple and ash give beautiful patterns in the cut;
  • Beech and oak form small specks;
  • Walnut, ash and elm form curved lines similar to sinusoids.

Conifers are good for making lace carvings. Softwood plywood is cheaper than solid wood, but the results will be virtually indistinguishable.

If you settled on contour carving or geometric patterns, choose hardwoods.

Styles

Interesting carving

If you have absolutely no experience in woodworking, but you are firmly decided to make a fence yourself, stop at simple patterns. There are techniques that require expensive equipment, but you need threading options that do not require special knowledge and experience. The following techniques will work:

  1. Geometric thread. The ornament consists of the simplest geometric shapes. Such work will require quite a lot of time, but even a beginner can do it with a certain perseverance. In this case, you can even do without a special tool - an ordinary sharpened knife will do.
  2. Contour thread. For this type of work, you will need a chisel. The point of the carving is not to cut through the wooden base, but to cut small indentations in it. As a result, you get a 3D drawing - to enhance this effect, we advise you to paint over the convex places with light paint. The contouring technique can also be used in combination with a solid solid fence - then a previously prepared thread with a thread is fixed on the fence canvas, which is a decorative element of design.
  3. Lace thread. Using this technique, you can make a unique artistic fence with a pattern that resembles lace. You can use a power tool or a jigsaw. First, one hole is drilled, a file is inserted into it - and then the entire pattern can be cut entirely along the previously drawn contour.

Do-it-yourself carved wood fence templates

Carving template

Installation diagram:

  • Before starting work, we prepare the boards - we grind the irregularities, we go through the plane. For light wood species this is enough, but dark wood will most likely have to be tinted as well.
  • We apply a drawing. If you are good at drawing, it will not be difficult for you to create a template for the future fence yourself. If not, it doesn't matter - on the Internet you can find a lot of image options for your future template.
  • When the pattern is completely cut out, the board is polished and sanded again.

Now a carved wooden fence can be installed:

  1. Mark the line along which your fence will be mounted. Install wooden stakes in the corners of the site, stretch a bright thread from one to the other. Mark the posts - they should all be at the same distance from each other.
  2. A hole is dug at each mark with a depth of 40-70 cm.
  3. Before installing wooden supports, you need to treat them with an antiseptic. After the antiseptic has dried, the pillars are installed in the pits and poured with concrete.

When the solution solidifies completely and the pillars stand up "tightly" - jumpers are installed. Without them, the structure will not be as strong. A wooden beam, which is attached with screws and nails, is suitable. This creates the frame of your fence.

After the frame is completely ready, start assembling your threaded blanks. The final step is always the processing of the fence with a special coating. It will protect wooden parts from bad weather and all kinds of wood pests. First, go over your future fence with a primer and then boldly cover the fence with paint or varnish.

Carved wood fence

A fence made of a carved picket fence can be mounted according to all the same rules as an ordinary wooden fence.

Installation of the fence is carried out in the following sequence:

DIY carved wood fences

Before transferring the drawing to the base, prepare the wooden canvas. Work the entire surface with a plane. Dark wood is usually tinted. If you want the surface to shine, use a varnish.

Picket thread with electric jigsaw

The pattern you are applying should be clearly visible. For light wood, you can take a black carbon copy, for dark wood, bright colors are suitable. You do not need to use a carbon paper, but simply press hard on the stencil with a pen - marks will remain on the tree.

When carving wood, you must observe safety precautions:

  1. Remember, your entire work tool is incredibly sharp. Even light touching the cutting surface can seriously damage the skin. Therefore, you cannot check with your finger how well the tool is sharpened.
  2. If you work on a desk, your desk should be 100% stable and under no circumstances wobble during work. Check that the table legs are the same height.
  3. In order to secure the details of your future fence during work, it is advisable to use special devices.
  4. You need to cut only "from yourself"; the other hand cannot be kept in the plane of work.
  5. Remember that wood shavings can ignite and burst into flames with simple heat - do not work near heating appliances.
  6. Your place of work should be well lit.
  7. Do not forget that sawdust of some types of trees (for example, yew) is toxic. This material is loved by many carvers. If you are working with yew, clean your work area thoroughly and throw away all sawdust immediately after work.
  8. Remove from the work area all objects that might trip over.
  9. During operation, the first aid kit should be near the cutter.

Treatment

Varnish treatment

If you want your fence to serve you for a very long time, be sure to treat it with an antiseptic and then paint it. The paint is applied after the antiseptic has completely dried.

Wooden gate - pros and cons

Before making a wooden gate with your own hands, you need to understand what advantages this material will give, and what are its disadvantages.

Advantages:

  1. Strength and durability - provided the correct breed is selected.
  2. Attractive appearance - you can create a structure of any shape and choose a suitable decoration.
  3. Affordable price. The bars necessary for assembly can be purchased very inexpensively, and if you use the remaining material after the main construction, then the installation of the wicket will practically cost nothing at all.
  4. Fast and easy assembly - such structures are easy to do with your own hands, even in the absence of professional construction skills.
  5. No need for sophisticated equipment and tools.
  6. Environmental friendliness of materials.

Important! The design possibilities when installing a wooden wicket with your own hands are endless. You can paint the product in any color you like or paint on it with paints. And still very popular today are carved wooden gates - you will learn how to make such gates below, as well as interesting "semi-antique" options.

Disadvantages:

  1. Low level of protection against burglary.
  2. Limited service life - depending on the model chosen, you will have to periodically restore and correct the position of such a gate.
  3. Exposure to fire.

Important! Such disadvantages necessitate additional processing - antiseptics, fire-resistant compounds. This increases the time it takes to create a wicket made of wood.

Carved wood gate - simple ways to create a pattern

A carved gate is a very interesting option, and even a novice master can make it with his own hands.

There are 3 technologies, each of which is distinguished by the type of pattern.

Geometric

The finished geometric wicket is a door leaf with a large number of various graphic elements:

  • spirals
  • drops
  • the lines
  • points
  • rectangles
  • rhombuses.

To make such a decorative wooden gate, prepare yourself for painstaking but simple work:

  1. Come up with a pattern by drawing up a preliminary drawing.
  2. Arm yourself with the right tools and cut the pattern on the surface of the wood.

Important! Each such gate is unique. If your own imagination is not enough or there is no desire to come up with a pattern, take to execution any of the ready-made projects that you like.

Contour

Contour carving is another kind of exclusively handmade. The technology for creating such a gate is as follows:

  1. Draw a drawing on a wooden canvas or apply it through a carbon copy.
  2. Along 2 lines of each element of the pattern, cut the grooves with a chisel.

Important! For coloring, choose a minimum of 2 colors - one for the protrusions, the other for the indentations. This will make the drawing more voluminous.

Lace

This type of carving is considered the most beautiful, but at the same time the simplest. With the right tool in place, it's easy to speed up the process by automating the slicing itself. For this:

  1. Apply any 1 or more solid pattern to the surface. Drawing may be the simplest.
  2. Drill a hole in any part of the blade.
  3. Insert a jigsaw into it and consistently cut the entire pattern along the contour.

Important! You can make it easier for yourself the difficult task of choosing a suitable design only by looking at photos of wooden gates from various manufacturers and home craftsmen, or directly objects live, if you have the opportunity. In the second case, you will visually imagine the whole device of such a door structure, which means that creating your own will go much easier.

Installation of a wicket made of wood - the basics of the structure

The entire installation procedure will consist of 5 stages:

  1. Creation of supports.
  2. Assembling the frame.
  3. Fastening decorative material to the frame.
  4. Installation of all fixing and locking parts - hinges, bolts, locks.
  5. Finishing of the door leaf.

Important! Before making a gate in a fence made of wood, find out the direction of opening the door that is convenient for you. In this case, most often the width of the carriageway becomes the determining criterion - if it is small, it is better to direct the flap inward, if it is sufficient so that the wicket does not catch on passing cars - the choice is yours.

Installation of supports

Before starting work, treat all wooden materials - for supports, frame and cladding with an antiseptic and wait until it dries. Such a procedure will help prevent wood rotting, increase its resistance to moisture and bugs.

  1. Drill 2 holes 1-1.2 meters deep.
  2. At the bottom, arrange a sand pillow up to 7 cm thick.
  3. Fill in the same layer of rubble.
  4. Tamp both layers.
  5. Fill with cement mortar.
  6. Install the support posts.
  7. Align them clearly to the vertical position of the level or plumb line.

Important! Secure so that they do not tilt during the setting of the cement mixture.

Assembling the frame

As a result of the work on the manufacture of the frame, you should get a Z-shaped structure. For this:

  1. Spread the blocks out on a hard, level surface.
  2. Make the markup.
  3. Cut to the desired length.
  4. Connect the frame elements.

Important! If there are burrs on any part, grind them with a plane.

Decorative cladding of a wooden gate

The frame cladding is carried out in 2 ways:

  • continuous row;
  • lattice at intervals.

In both cases, follow these rules:

  1. Make a preliminary marking of the position of the boards on the frame.
  2. Tailor all sheathing board sizes to the desired dimensions.
  3. Fasten all the elements in sequence with nails or wood screws, checking in the process the evenness of their position vertically and horizontally.

Important! If the structure is lattice, then all the boards should be located at the same distance from each other. No element should be tilted.

Installation of shut-off elements

To hang a wicket door:

  1. Make a preliminary fitting of its position.
  2. Mark the locations of the hinges.
  3. Fix the hinges in the marked places. Since hinges are most often used decorative or forged, they are attached from the outside.
  4. Attach the door leaf.
  5. Adjust its position for level or plumb line.

Important! Check that the sash opens easily and fits snugly when closing. After that, install the bolt and lock at a height of 0.9-1 meters from the ground.

Interesting wicket design ideas - video

Now you are convinced that it is not difficult to make a gate out of wood with your own hands. Most likely, you will have to spend more time choosing an interesting design, because the first impression of your home will depend on it. But the result of such work will certainly become a matter of your pride!

Carved wooden gates are a necessary element of the fence of any cottage, country house or summer cottage. This is the first thing that catches the eye when visiting someone else's home, because the gate is the main entrance to the territory of private property. In addition to its main function - to protect property, the gate carries an artistic decorative load. The overall design of the entire site largely depends on what material, how the gates are built and decorated.

Carved gates, as a rule, represent a swing-type entrance structure. Before installing them, check that there is sufficient space to open and close them. Today, elite wooden gates are in great demand and popularity, they can be seen in many cottage settlements. This architectural element does not lose its relevance and original novelty, due to the fact that each product is made by a master in a single copy. The gate serves as a visiting card that can tell a lot about the owners of the house.

In the Russian tradition, wood carvings, carved gates and a palisade are an integral part of the unique house carving. Carved, relief, sculptural carvings with a combination of overhead elements and details were famous for the products of carvings by masters of the Russian North. In the old days, the gate was a closed-loop complex, in which the gate and the gate were a single entrance. In other cases, they were also made separate. Modern carvers have adopted the richest folk experience, enriching it with the latest techniques in work and the use of advanced technologies. They are capable of performing work of any complexity - from fairly simple structures to the most complex sculptural and ornamental compositions. The style of the product can be anything: modern, oriental, classic or fabulous epic.

In the manufacture of carved wooden gates, wood species are used, which are distinguished by their durability, wear resistance, strength. As a rule, this is an array of pine, spruce, sometimes cedar and aspen are used. The wood is dried in a special way so that the finished product does not crack and lose its appearance. Special impregnations protect the material from sudden changes in temperature and humidity, improve the properties of wood and are a kind of barrier against various damages.

Carved gates made of solid wood, made by an experienced craftsman, will become a reliable, convenient and stylish protection for your home and site. A carved ornament or a sculptural ensemble in the decoration of the gate will undoubtedly attract the attention of relatives and guests and give aesthetic pleasure. Indeed, such a product combines rich national traditions and novelties of the modern concept of woodcarving.

Every owner of a private house, be it a summer cottage or a building for permanent residence, upon completion of construction is faced with the task of installing a gate. In fact, the gates offered on the modern construction market, the photos of which can be seen in the article, are able to satisfy any practical and aesthetic needs.

The choice of design is a responsible task, since its purpose is not only to protect the site from intruders. Correctly selected gates for a private house, the photo version of which can be seen below, is an adornment of the entire architectural ensemble and its face. After all, it is they who create the first impression of the owner. Therefore, when deciding the issue, one should proceed, on the one hand, from the point of view of the practicality of the material used, and on the other hand, from design considerations. It is important that the design does not violate the overall harmony. Even beautiful gates and gates by themselves can look ridiculous if they are stylistically inadequate to the house, other buildings and the fence.

When deciding the question of installing a gate, first of all, you need to decide on the material.

Materials (edit)

Wood

Wooden gates for a private house, the photos of which you will see below, are a very popular solution. This is due to a number of advantages that wood has. These include:

  1. Environmental safety of the material.
  2. Ease of installation of the structure and the ability to do this work yourself, without the help of professionals.
  3. Relative ease of construction.
  4. Ability to do without expensive and complicated equipment during installation.

The main disadvantage of natural wood structures is their flammability. Therefore, they are not fire safe. In addition, such structures require regular procedures to ensure their safety and include:

  1. Touch-up and repair.
  2. Treatment with antiseptic compounds to prevent rotting and fungal attack.

The disadvantage is the difference in weight that occurs when changing from dry to rainy weather due to the ability of wood to absorb moisture. The result can be their deformation.

Corrugated board

Gate options for a private house include structures made of corrugated board. This material is a profiled galvanized steel sheet. Fences and gates for a private house, made of corrugated board, are a widespread design. The reason for this is the numerous advantages that this material has. These include:

  • the ability to choose any color to your taste;
  • relatively low cost;
  • ease of installation;
  • small weight;
  • durability;
  • no need for constant care;
  • numerous design options.

The main disadvantage of structures made of this material is their lack of sophistication in terms of aesthetic nature. However, by showing imagination, you can choose an interesting color, as well as decorate the gates around the perimeter in an original way. As a result, the gate for the house, the photos of which you will see below, will look very attractive.

Euroshtaketnik

It is a kind of the previous material and is a metal profiled strip with a polymer coating. Metal picket structures have an aesthetic and modern look.

Forged metal

Forging allows you to create exceptionally beautiful gates, photo options for such gates are presented below - and each of them can be safely called a work of art. The disadvantage of this solution is its high cost. Only fairly wealthy owners of private houses can afford the installation of a forged structure. At the same time, forged gates and wickets, the photos of which you will see below, have the following number of advantages:

  • durability;
  • high level of strength and durability;
  • aesthetic appeal;
  • the possibility of manufacturing gates on an individual order;
  • compatibility with any other materials;
  • providing an overview.

However, some people perceive the latter advantage as a disadvantage. In this case, in order to hide the situation in the courtyard from the glances of passers-by, you can attach polycarbonate sheets to the gate.

The downside is the large mass, which requires a solid foundation during installation and the installation of heavy pillars.

In addition to wood and metal, polymer materials can also be used: vinyl and slate.

Varieties

After the choice of material has been made, the next step is to choose the type of construction. What are the types of gates for a private house?

The entrance gate to a private house, the photos of which are below, may be:

  • sliding;
  • swing;
  • retractable;
  • lifting;
  • mechanical.

Today, two types are most common - swing and sliding.

Swing structures

This gate, pictures of which can be found on the Internet, is perhaps the most ancient solution. Their construction is extremely simple. They consist of two sashes, which are attached to the supporting posts with the help of strong hinges. They have the following advantages:

  • ease of installation;
  • ease of maintenance.

The main disadvantage is the availability of space for their opening. In addition, stoppers should be provided, since during strong winds, the flaps can damage the body of an inbound vehicle.

Sliding

The main advantage of this design is that no space is required for opening. However, there are also disadvantages, namely:

  1. Complexity of installation.
  2. The need for more maintenance due to the heavy stress on small parts.
  3. Prone to failure due to factors such as rust and dust.

Style and design

What the design of the gate and wicket of a private house can be, the photo below will clearly show you. Currently, there are a variety of design solutions that allow you to choose a beautiful gate for a private house, the photos of which are presented in the article. However, for those who are deciding which gate to choose for the house, the photo gallery at the end of the article will help determine the direction of the search for a solution.

Gate

Talking about the gate, the question of the gate cannot be ignored. Of course, the wicket is a necessary structural element, since it is very inconvenient to open the gate every time you enter the site.

What considerations should be taken when installing a wicket? Here it is also worth deciding on the material first. It would be quite natural and logical to use the same material for the wicket as for the gate. Otherwise, the stylistic harmony of the design will be violated. In addition, purchasing different materials can create additional costs.

Where is the best place to make a wicket? The best place for a wicket is next to the gate. A good solution is to use the same support posts to install the gate. This eliminates the need for an additional support post, which speeds up the installation process.

The most popular type of wickets are classic swing gates. Some home owners install sliding gates. However, due to the complexity of manufacturing, such a design is extremely rare.

Automatic system

For those owners of private houses who are fans of convenience and comfort, such a modern solution as the entrance gate in a private house is suitable, photo examples of which you will see below. Their feature is that they are equipped with an electric drive and operate in automatic mode. All they need is a relatively low power electric motor and simple electronics.

Electric gates enable the owner to open and close them while in the house or in the car. Currently, there are constructions equipped with sensors tuned to the signal of the owner's car, and they themselves open or close when it is supplied.

As a rule, the electric drive is installed on a sliding gate. Automation of opening and closing swing structures is expensive and therefore rarely used.

How to make a carved wood fence with your own hands

The development of any suburban or urban area begins with the establishment of a fence. The fence not only provides some protection to the property of the owners, but also has an excellent decorative function.

The market offers a huge amount of materials used to create a fence, but despite this, wood, as a reliable and classic material, does not lose its position. Wood is in an affordable price range for everyone, it is extremely easy to process, especially when it comes to creating a fence. In terms of beauty, carved fences are in no way inferior to the popular forged counterparts that have come into fashion: they always look aesthetically pleasing and, with timely care, serve for just as long.

What is the advantage of such a fence?

Wood has become one of the most popular materials due to its many positive qualities:

  • it is an absolutely environmentally friendly material that does not harm the environment;
  • properly processed wood can serve for more than 50 years;
  • structures made of this material fit perfectly into almost any garden style design;
  • can be easily combined with all types of building materials;
  • caring for him does not require much effort and time;
  • the installation of the fence, due to the pliability of the raw material, is carried out very quickly;
  • the material is cheap and available in many varieties;
  • repair of a finished structure can be done independently without much effort;
  • ease of installation allows you to do all the work yourself and save on the services of specialists;
  • wood is very easily covered with paint, which allows you to choose any color scheme.

In nature, there are a huge number of different types of wood with different colors and textures. Having decided on an independent work, you can always choose the option that is most suitable for the overall design of the exterior.

Methods and types of thread

When it comes to doing woodcarving on their own, it is better for beginners not to choose too complex types, they need long training. Also, do not pay attention to methods that require special equipment in the form of machines and other equipment, since it is quite expensive. The simplest in execution and common for decorating a fence are the following types of carving.

Geometric

Such a thread implies a rather painstaking, but not at all difficult, manual work. With the help of special tools, a drawing based on a large number of different graphic elements(point, line, rectangle, rhombus, spiral, drop, etc.). This art form belongs to Russian folk art.

Contour

The contour carving is also exclusively handmade, allowing complete freedom of imagination. Draw or copy on a wooden plane any type of image, after which recesses are cut out with a chisel along two lines of each detail of the pattern.

A carved fence decorated in this way will look more voluminous. Often, to enhance the effect of volume, the protrusions are painted in one color, and the depression in another, darker.

Lace

The creation of a lace ornament is considered the simplest, but at the same time, by its beauty, it always attracts admiring glances. This type of processing assumes the possibility of automating the entire process. Draws on the surface uncomplicated pattern of one or more solid elements... A hole is drilled on any part of the line, a jigsaw is inserted into it and a pattern is gradually cut along its contour. Of course, you can also use electric cutting tools.

The geometric and lace options are best for use on planks or picket fences that are the future of the fence. But the creation of a contour type of thread is performed on separate planks, which are subsequently attached to the finished fence, since in the process of installing a picket fence with a volumetric composition, the pattern can be destroyed by jumpers, nails or self-tapping screws.

Tool and material preparation

Having chosen a contour or geometric thread, you should know what is suitable for it only hardwood... Practically suitable for making lace thread any wood, even hard conifers... The main thing is that the surface is smooth, without obvious flaws.

Before performing the work, it is necessary to carefully prepare the surface for drawing the pattern. If the wood is light, its preparation is reduced to processing with a plane, if it is dark, tinting is carried out. To create a shiny surface, black varnish is applied, which, after drying, is treated with polish.

If you wish, you can use another method: wipe the planed surface with liquid wood glue or PVA, and then, using fine sandpaper, sand it. The procedure is repeated several times. Such a primer is sufficient for uniform application of black ink, and after it dries - varnish, which is also polished after drying.

It is much easier for beginners to work on a black shiny surface, since the results of labor are immediately noticeable on such a canvas, and the whole process of work becomes much clearer.

The composition of the ornament should be as clear as possible. The way it is translated depends on the color of the base. For a light color, choose purple or black copy paper, for a dark shade, choose red, yellow or green. The drawing can also be applied by drawing it with a pencil or interrupting it over the paper onto the board, strongly tracing the drawing with a ballpoint pen.

For the preparation and processing of wood, it is necessary to take care of the availability of abrasive materials with the granularity that is most suitable for the selected wood species. If possible, buy an electric drill equipped with an emery disc, which will significantly speed up the whole process.

Carving can be done with a specially sharpened household knife, but when it comes to a fence, it is still worth buying a few tools, since the convenience of the process with such a volume of work is very important.

Of course, the choice of tools depends on the complexity of the ornament and the type of carving. For a geometric, contoured and lace look, it is enough to purchase:

  • cutter (used for the main work - cutting out the contours);
  • straight chisels (level and clean flat surfaces);
  • round chisels (for creating small rounded elements);
  • jigsaw (required when cutting out lace thread elements).

Such a modest set is quite sufficient for the implementation of the studied methods. The size of all tools is selected depending on the size of the ornament.

Wood carving process

The whole process consists of the following steps:

  1. wood preparation;
  2. drawing creation;
  3. its transfer to a prepared workpiece;
  4. directly thread;
  5. final finishing of the finished composition.

While working, the foreman must protect the left hand from accidental injury at all times. For her, you need to find a place where accidental contact with the skin with incorrect movement or dismounting of the instrument will be impossible. Working with wood in your lap is strictly prohibited..

When the picket fence or board is prepared, they are fixed to the workbench using clamps or holders. When cutting the contour groove, the tool must be guided with both hands. The knife is clamped in a fist, the blade is guided by the other hand, its movement is controlled.

If the ornament or pattern has some circles, they are cut out with a semicircular chisel or an oblique knife. In general, the whole process is carried out using tools that are convenient for the wizard. After readiness, it is necessary to remove the formed dust from all cracks.

The video shows a tutorial example of contour thread:

But when it comes to lace carving, it is enough to purchase an even picket fence and start cutting. First you need to drill a hole in any part of the pattern, insert a jigsaw or drill and slowly cut the pattern along the contour. In order for the base not to crack during operation, the product must be kept on a firm, level surface. After cutting, the board needs to be sanded and varnished. This type of thread has the great advantage that finished holes do not have to be machined and finished to perfection.

The process of working with a jigsaw for cutting out a lace thread:

Installation of the fence

Installation of the fence is carried out in the following order:

  1. First of all, you need to determine the line along which the fence will be located. For this, wooden pegs are placed around the perimeter of the site, and a thread is pulled between them. Points are marked along the thread at the same distance, which will serve as a place for installing the pillars.
  2. In place of these points, holes are dug with a depth of 60-70 cm (with a support height of 1.5-2 m).
  3. All supports are treated with an antiseptic, after which the extreme pillars are inserted into the pits and poured with ready-made concrete mixture. After the concrete has hardened, threads are pulled between the corner posts at the top, bottom and in the middle. Guided by them, all other intermediate supports are inserted into the pits and are also poured with concrete. It is advisable to wrap the lower part of the posts with roofing felt, then water will not penetrate into the tree, which will significantly increase the life of the fence.
  4. After waiting for the solution to solidify, you can start installing the jumpers. As a lag, an ordinary wooden beam usually acts. It is fastened horizontally between the supports using brackets, nails or self-tapping screws. The lintels not only fix the main composition and give it rigidity, but also serve as the basis for sheathing the fence with carved elements.
  5. After the frame is ready, you can begin the installation of a picket fence or boards decorated with thread.

Painting and care of the fence

Before starting painting, the fence must be treated with an antiseptic or fire retardant substance. Such means will be an excellent protector of wood from moisture penetration into the fibers and protect it from the natural process of decay and mold. The applied antiseptic will also keep the material from damage caused by small pests.

After the liquid has dried, you need to start the painting process. You can choose from two types of paints:

  • Covering paints will cover the surface of the product with a thick, continuous layer, give it the desired color, but completely hide the texture of the wood.
  • Glazing paints have a more liquid and transparent consistency, the texture is clearly visible through such a coating, and some samples of this building material even emphasize it.

An economical solution would be to use protective and decorative enamel... But it is worth remembering that this substance does not tolerate temperatures below -5 ° C and above + 50 ° C. Also the structure can be coated wood stain or modern impregnations, which will give the carved fence an even more themed, folkloric look. Deciding to cover the fence varnish or oil paint, you need to count on a high consumption and purchase material with a margin, since the boards absorb liquid, which is applied in stages in several layers.

Even if the boards are covered with an antiseptic, after a long period of use due to the influence of weather, temperature changes, they can lose their attractive appearance. For this reason, re-painting must be done every 3-4 years. Easy maintenance guarantees the safety of the unique fence created by your own hands. Contrast painting, adding other materials to the composition can enhance the effect of patterns, further decorating the fence.

Wooden gates can be quite attractive, but only if you take into account all the necessary nuances when installing them. Knowledge of the technology of their creation helps a lot to save money and get the result that is needed.

There will be no need to explain to designers and developers what exactly is required of them, to carefully select the delivery set, and so on.

Peculiarities

You can make a gate from wood either sliding or swing; no one makes them lifting and lifting and turning, because this excessive complexity of the structure is not always realizable.

The type of timber stacking allows you to make the fence either solid or intermittent, divided into blocks.

Advantages and disadvantages

The obvious positive aspects of wood are:

  • Availability... It is not difficult to find suitable material in any quantity;
  • Comparatively affordable prices... Much less than the payment for metal for a similar structure;
  • Ease of handling and installation... Almost any person can make wooden gates, and their installation is much easier than installing steel ones;
  • No need for welding equipment;
  • Long enough service life and the reliability of the structure being created (if everything is done correctly and the care is correct);
  • Ease of repair... Replacing a board is much easier than correcting defects in a metal sheet or profile.

The disadvantages of wood are also quite obvious: it is both a relatively lower strength and susceptibility to fire (special processing only lowers it, in addition to raising the cost of the entire structure). It will be necessary to treat wooden products with means that stop the process of decay.

Views

It is not at all necessary to create simple wooden structures; a very smart step is to use beautiful gates. The main difference is always how the parts are connected together. The traditional solution is a swing product, which is made simpler than other types and serves reliably for a long time.

It is possible to distinguish such groups of doors made of wood, such as:

  • "Chess";
  • Made of picket fence;
  • Deaf closed fences.

The cladding is made both on a metal frame and on a wooden one. In urban conditions and with an acute shortage of space, sliding structures are in demand much more than classic swing systems. The only problem is that they are much more difficult to create and require the mandatory involvement of professionals.

Note also that the bearing mechanism with automatic rollers is expensive and capricious; if handled carelessly, it easily breaks down. It is possible to mount carved elements on any type of wooden gates from above, from below, and on the frontal plane.

Materials (edit)

Wooden gates will show all their advantages only with careful selection of the right material. In many cases, steel frames are simply sheathed with wood - this is a relatively heavy option, but it is stronger and safer than a solid wood structure.

Expensive valuable wood species are used only occasionally, in most cases, they are limited to simple pine parts... After all, they are quite beautiful, they allow you to create a pleasant appearance and at the same time are very resistant to destructive influences. Budget projects provide for the creation of gates mainly from a picket fence.

Dimensions (edit)

Standard gate dimensions are 300-400 cm wide. Please note that your needs may be much more important than this generally accepted standard.

When the site will be built up, it is advisable to make a wider passage so that trucks and special equipment can easily pass in and out. Be sure to leave a gap from the bottom edge to the ground otherwise it will be inconvenient to use the gate during snow melting, ice crust formation or after heavy rain.

Style and design

Antique gates look elegant and romantic, and this is just the case when pine details are unsuitable. A relatively economical solution to the problem is the use of larch, and the density allows you to prevent the action of many negative factors.

Alternatively, you can use iron gates with forging elements that imitate the look of natural wood. It would be even better to fill the doors with wooden details. Bolts equipped with a half-countersunk head without edges will help to connect such dissimilar materials. The frame must be drilled, then the boards are pulled to it by 2 or 4 fasteners. The nut is always left on the inside of the structure.

How to do it yourself?

Making wooden gates and gates is within the power of anyone, even people who have no special experience in such matters. But success cannot be achieved if you do not prepare a good set of tools and materials. It always includes:

  • Pencils, rasps;
  • Squares, screwdrivers, levels, screws;
  • Planers, plumb lines, crowbars;
  • Containers for the preparation of concrete mortar;
  • Wooden beams;
  • Metallic constipation;
  • Canopy;
  • Hinges;
  • A set of rails or picket fences for external cladding of frames.

Before buying lumber, you should find out the required size (height) of the structure, the size of the wicket. We must not forget that it will be necessary to bury the support pillars 1 m into the ground., otherwise stability cannot be guaranteed.

Before starting the installation, each wooden post is completely impregnated with antiseptic agents, and the underground parts are additionally treated with resins or bituminous mastics.

The territory must be prepared: stones are removed, clods of earth are broken and it is leveled. It is advisable to mark the points of support and directions of installation using stakes, cords. It is almost impossible to do all the work alone, so assistants are always invited. It is possible to hang the sashes only after the concrete is completely dry.

The installation of the pillars goes like this:

  • A hole is made with a drill 100 cm deep;
  • They look that the planes of the pillars turned towards each other are slightly farther from each other than the width of a standard wicket;
  • In this case, the distance should not exceed 1.2 m;
  • The hole is sprinkled with sand to 0.05 m and thoroughly spilled with water so that it shrinks as soon as possible;
  • Add 50 mm of crushed stone;
  • The underground parts of the pillars are fired with gas burners or blowtorches;
  • Guided by measurements, with the help of a plumb line, they put the post itself, cover it with rubble and ram it;
  • A stone cushion is covered from above with cement mortar.

The frame for the sash is formed using a jigsaw, with which pieces of timber of the required length are easily cut. The ends of these pieces are drilled and wooden nails driven into the holes.

To fasten the jumpers, they take galvanized self-tapping screws, put them horizontally or diagonally. Be sure to sheathe the frame with slats, otherwise the gate will sag easily and quickly deform. Burrs and other imperfections of wood are easily removed when using planers with a well-sharpened working part.

Solid wickets are formed by laying boards with nailed slats on the frame and drawing cutting lines. If the top is rounded, it is best to mark it with a compass. Lattice structures are more complicated, here each rail will have to be marked and cut off separately. The connection of structural parts will be simplified if you use self-tapping screws for wood.

When installing a wicket, always make sure that it locks securely and does not swing open by itself. Only after eliminating such a problem, you can install latches and a lock.

The best fittings are prefabricated stainless steel structures., anodized metal shows itself a little worse. Attaching the gate to brick pillars is possible if, at the time of their construction, a couple of hinges are left outside. The connection of the overhead parts of the hinges with the horizontal rungs of the gates or gates should preferably be done with bolts.

Wooden gates or wickets can even be hung on metal or concrete posts. This is done using suspension assemblies, which include a hook, nuts and a clamp (a couple of knots are sufficient). So that you can put the lock, a loop is made near the latch so that the bow will also go into the handle. For painting wooden gates, it is recommended to use a yacht varnish based on polyurethane as the most durable and reliable. But it should also be applied in at least two layers.

  • the ability to choose any color to your taste;
  • relatively low cost;
  • ease of installation;
  • small weight;
  • durability;
  • no need for constant care;

  • durability;
  • high level of strength and durability;
  • aesthetic appeal;
  • the possibility of manufacturing gates on an individual order;
  • compatibility with any other materials;

  • sliding;
  • swing;
  • retractable;
  • lifting;

  • ease of installation;

Wooden gates: beautiful, reliable and affordable (23 photos)

Contact by mail

Installing reliable gates on the site is just as important as building a good house, because gates both protect your home ownership and perform a decorative function, because the first thing people see when they drive up to your house is the gate. If you want to find the perfect combination of price and quality, choose a wooden gate. They look beautiful and, with proper care, will last a very long time.

Which material should you choose?

Wooden gates can be made from:

  • pine trees;
  • alder;
  • larch;
  • birch;
  • maple;
  • oak.

Each of these types of wood has its own advantages and characteristics. If possible, the gate is recommended to be made of coniferous trees. They contain resin that prevents wood from rotting and makes it durable. Natural resin is a good prevention against fungus, mold and insect pests.

Wooden gates and wickets are often made from pine. This wood is very durable, but the main thing is that there are almost no branches on it. Pine is easy to handle and you need to make blanks out of it. The only thing, if you want to make semi-antique wooden gates, you will have to give up pine. This tree is more difficult to paint than others. The paint lays on the surface unevenly, and the design of the wooden gate turns out to be different from what it was originally conceived.

Spruce has a uniform beautiful color, so the gate made from it can be simply opened with varnish. Forged wooden gates are often made from pine, because decorative metal elements look perfect against the background of this tree. You can also make a gate from pine: it will be strong and light at the same time. For a house, pine doors will be the ideal solution, but it’s worth considering whether to make a summer cottage gate out of them, because this wood has a high porosity: during heavy rains, it quickly swells and begins to rot.

Larch gates will look good. This wood is very durable and sturdy. It has a less porous structure, so it does not rot so quickly. Beautiful larch wooden gates are usually varnished. This wood is beautiful enough to be painted with oil paint.

Hardwood is less popular with manufacturers. Alder, maple, birch are easy to handle, they hardly dry out, but they have low moisture resistance. After rainy autumn and snowy winter, the gate can deform and start to rot. You can install a wooden gate in an oak country house. This wood contains special substances that prevent rotting and the formation of mold. She is sturdy and very beautiful. Oak has two disadvantages: it is expensive and difficult to process.

It is necessary to decide not only on the type of wood, but also on the type of gate that will stand in the country. The most common types of gates today are:

  • sliding;
  • swing;
  • sectional.

The first two are a budget option. Sectional doors are more expensive and require experience and special tools to install.

We install swing gates

The simplest and most affordable are swing gates. They are suitable both for a summer cottage and for a country house. The width of such gates is about four meters, and the height is determined based on the height of the entire fence.

All gate components must be ordered from production. Typically, they are a thick metal frame to which wooden planks are attached. The installation of the gate begins with digging in steel pillars, which should be about half a meter higher than the main leaves. When the pillars are dug in, the gate leaves are hung on the hinges.

If you want to save some money, you can find information on how to make your own wooden gate. If you will make a wooden gate with your own hands, do not forget that there should be a polyurethane visor above it. Such a visor will protect the ends of the doors from moisture, which means that the gate will last longer, but place it taking into account that a truck with a high body can enter the courtyard, therefore such a visor at a wooden swing gate should be at least 3.5 meters.

Swing gates can have flaps of the same size, or there may be a flap and a wicket. It will be very convenient to park the car in the yard and get in and out using the gate. Wooden gates on a metal frame are suitable for installation at the entrance, because they are strong and reliable. Wooden gates to the garage may not have this frame; ordinary gates made of a picket fence, which are directed to thick guide beams, are suitable here.

Sliding gates to save space

Additional space is required to open swing gates. If not, you can install wooden sliding gates. Without special tools and experience, it is unlikely that it will be possible to make such a gate out of wood with your own hands. They represent a metal frame into which a picket fence is inserted. This frame runs on metal rails installed along the fence. These gates can be opened with one movement of the hand, but not in all areas they can be installed: on the right or left of the fence, there should be a width equal to the width of the door leaf.

If you do not know how to make a gate of this type, it is better not to undertake their manufacture at all. Only a person with extensive experience can build brick pillars for such gates and install this entire complex mechanism. Wooden garage doors cannot be of this type either, because the canvas will simply have nowhere to enter.

Sectional doors

These options are more expensive and can only be installed by professionals. Garage doors made of wood can be not only hinged, but also sectional. They consist of thin panels that are connected by hinges. In one motion, the gate rises and collects at the top, just as easily they close.

Wooden sectional doors are often installed in underground garages. They are very convenient: they are easily set in motion, they seal the room tightly, and when assembled do not take up much space.

However, such gates also have disadvantages. They are much more expensive than swing and sliding ones. These doors are difficult to install, and if used improperly, the hinge mechanism can quickly fail. These gates should only be attached to a concrete wall - they cannot be installed in a room with plasterboard walls or in a garage made of thin metal.

We decorate the gate

The easiest way to decorate the gate is to cover it with a varnish of a noble shade or paint of your favorite color. You can make a gate in the Provence style: paint it and make it up with sandpaper and copper sulphate, but if the gate is painted and not restored, over time they will grow old to the desired state by themselves.

If you have the financial opportunity, you can spend money and install a wooden gate with forging elements. Even if you attach small decorative elements, the gate will look different. You can make forged hinges, handles, bolts - with them, the gates and wickets will have a completely different look, or you can order forged gates with wood. They are expensive, but with them your home ownership will look like a real medieval castle.

Gates with wooden inserts are sometimes decorated with carvings. This is a small handicraft that a rare master can do. If you want a carved gate, it should not be made of aspen or alder, but mahogany. Otherwise, the work will cost more than a gate with a wicket.

Wooden gates are a good option for those looking for the perfect combination of price and quality. They look very presentable and are cheaper than metal ones. If you want a wooden gate to serve you for many years, take good care of it. To do this, they need to be treated with insect impregnations at least once every six years, the layer of paint and varnish must be renewed and all iron mechanisms must be lubricated with oil.

Design of gates and gates at home (50 photos): beautiful and practical options

We are looking for authors for our site who are VERY well versed in interior design.

The fence is one of the most important attributes that sets a certain aesthetic tone for the entire landscape design of the site. The decoration of the gate and the general style of the fence tell passers-by about the taste of the owners, their material wealth, a certain social status. It is not surprising that many owners of suburban locations and private sectors within the city are trying to make the gates and fencing around the house not only safe, but also exclusive.

What wickets and gates can be for a private house

Constructive decisions regarding a fence or a gate have a direct impact on the design of the fence as a whole. There are the following types:

  1. The blank canvas of gates and wickets is preferred by owners of the private sector who lead a closed lifestyle. Options for fences made of wood, metal and corrugated board can be made exclusive and interesting. To do this, it is enough to supplement the integral canvas with forging fragments, carvings and openwork details. Another chic option is an emphasis on unusual support pillars;
  2. The through-type design is represented by forged metal products. Forging design is always individual. Simpler options are welded lattice structures and mesh. Less commonly, fragments of corrugated board or wooden elements are used to improve the supporting qualities of the fence;
  3. Mixed options represent the most optimal combination of the previous two formats of wickets and gates for a private house. Usually, the lower part of the fence is deaf, hiding from prying eyes most of what is happening on the site. The upper segments are distinguished by translucency, openwork forms. Most often it is a simple mesh or a more respectable forged design.

Deaf wrought iron gates with polycarbonate

There is another option, but it is more practical than any decorative qualities. Experts recommend keeping the bottom-most segment of a blind gate open. This is necessary for normal ventilation of the space and green spaces around the house.

Blind metal gates of a private house

If the width of the entrance does not allow for the installation of a gate and a wicket at the same time, these elements are combined with each other. The hole for the wicket is cut directly into the fence. This technique can also be advantageously beaten from a design point of view.

Materials as a basis for decor

When choosing elements for the future fencing of the site and the house, the owners first of all take into account how strong, durable and reliable the structure will be. Then they take into account the aesthetic qualities of the future fence.

Many people forget about an important nuance: fences should not only look organically within a particular site, but also harmoniously coexist with other fences that are located nearby. With regard to material and design features, several global categories are distinguished.

Classic wood constructions

A fence with a wicket can be either deaf or through. Wooden fences look organically with brick or massive stone pillars. A similar fence can be decorated with forging and openwork metal weaving. Effectively, the fence is combined in suburban areas with large cottages or small houses made of logs.

The gate itself can be made from a narrow picket fence or thin wooden slats. They are connected according to the type of lattice or supplemented with the same forging from metal. Ideal if there is a wooden gazebo in the yard. Thus, all elements look organic, and the design looks holistic.

Decking and other unusual solutions

Structures made of aluminum, corrugated board, picket fence and other non-standard materials are gaining more and more popularity. Unusualness and originality lies in the fact that they try to combine textures and materials in the most unexpected way.

For example, masonry or brickwork is combined with polycarbonate. The texture of the wood is emphasized with ornate metal patterns. Massive stone pillars complement the light mesh.

How to make a wooden gate - a wooden gate (+ photo, diagrams)

Arrangement of a reliable garage ensures not only the safety of the car, but also prevents intruders from entering the vehicle. Each car owner strives to have his own garage, since in large cities many cars spend the night in the open, exposed to the harmful effects of the environment and being the object of increased attention from fraudsters. For the owners of country houses and summer cottages, the task of erecting the named building is one of the first lines in the list of priority measures. But the excessively high cost of manufacturing this structure in a number of cases discourages any desire to implement what was conceived. The use of wood and the manufacture of some structural elements with your own hands will significantly reduce the cost of building a garage. An integral part of any building of this type is the gate. For their high-quality construction, you need to familiarize yourself with how to make wooden gates yourself without the involvement of specialists.

Benefits of using wood

The main advantages of the named material are:

  • Affordability and reasonable price. You can easily buy wood products of the required grade and required dimensions in a hardware store or a specialized company. Pricing policy in comparison with metal is much lower.
  • Ease of handling and installation. Without much difficulty, anyone will be able to carry out the preparation of the named material with their own hands. Whereas the processing of metal products will require the use of expensive equipment: an angle grinder, welding equipment, etc.
  • Durability and reliability. With regular regular maintenance, the wooden entrance structure will be able to serve for a long time. In comparison with metal, the wooden surface is not susceptible to rust, however, it requires periodic processing with special compounds. If one of the sides of the canvas is damaged, it is possible to replace old boards with new ones in a matter of hours.

Depending on the tastes and preferences of each owner, you can make any type of gate: a sliding type or a version with a lifting device.

The simplest and most versatile type is swing gates. The manufacturing technology of this element is intuitive and does not require special construction skills from the master.

The main task is to take into account all the subtleties and important features, as well as to carry out high-quality measurements and wood processing.

Preparatory work

Before preparing the required material and tool, you should draw up a diagram of the future structure and accurately calculate its location. Having finished with these points, it is worth starting to measure the entrance opening. To increase clarity, it will be useful to use the existing sketch and adjust all the values to your version.

Tool for work

Drawing up a detailed sketch will help you better navigate the number of consumables and components. The construction of a structure involves the use and preparation of the following tools and materials:

  • timber or metal profile 50 × 50 mm;
  • wooden boards having a width of 100 mm and a thickness of 25 mm;
  • metal hinges;
  • hacksaw;
  • roulette;
  • Bulgarian;
  • building level;
  • steel corners;
  • drill with a set of drills and bits;
  • chisel;
  • sandpaper;
  • primer;
  • processing compositions;
  • set of brushes.

When manufacturing wooden garage doors, special supports must be prepared in advance. If they are not yet ready, then two wooden beams or logs are required to make them.

Installation of garage doors made of wood

We prepare holes for them with a depth of at least 1.2–1.5 m. When erecting any supporting structure, a simple rule applies: the deeper the pillars are located, the more stable and reliable the gate will be. We cut the workpieces to the required height, taking into account the part of the support that will be in the ground. To increase the strength, it will be useful to additionally strengthen the foundation of future support pillars by filling the bottom of the grooves with a small amount of crushed stone of fraction 5 × 20 and tamping the resulting substrate.

To prevent premature destruction of wooden supports, it is necessary to treat the places that will be underground with a special water-repellent mastic or resin.

Installation of pillars

Next, we install the pillars, fix the vertical position at the building level and fill the recesses with concrete or cement mixture. In addition, to give more practicality and aesthetics, you can overlay the concreted areas with large stone or brick.

Mounting

After completing all the preparatory procedures, we proceed to the manufacture of the structure itself.

Frame

In accordance with the dimensions of the entrance opening, we cut the wooden beam to the required values and lay it out on an even place so that we get a rectangle or square, depending on the type of gate.

We check the horizontality and verticality of the laid out beams, after which we drill holes in the corner joints and fasten the structure with self-tapping screws or dowels. It will not be superfluous to reinforce the corners and the center of the frame, respectively, with steel corners and cross beams. The ends of the latter products are cut at an angle of 45º, placed crosswise and fixed with self-tapping screws.

Metal shaped pipes can also be used as the basis for the future frame, however, welding equipment will be required for production.

Finishing

The next activity is the manufacture and surface treatment of cladding elements. Depending on the material chosen and the size of the shutters, we cut the required number of boards. As a rule, pine is used for cladding, since wood products from it have a low specific weight and the greatest protection against the harmful effects of environmental factors.

The cladding board is placed close to each other and is fixed to the frame with self-tapping screws. Upon completion, all irregularities are trimmed and processed with a sander or fine sandpaper.

To increase the density of adherence to the frame and maintain the temperature regime in the garage, the edges of the sashes can be sheathed with insulation.

Installation of hinges and sash fastening

Having prepared the gate leaves, we proceed to the installation of metal hinges. In the case of attachment to the frame structure, the hinged parts are welded directly onto the frame, and in the case of attachment to wooden bases, onto the support posts. To determine the optimal location, it is necessary to retreat from the upper and lower boundaries of the support, a distance equal to ¼ of the total height of the pillars and outline the place. Then fix the hinges on the posts and hang the sashes.

Surface treatment

The gate is almost ready, it remains only to prime and cover the surface with antiseptics. After giving the necessary time to dry, we proceed to the placement of the fittings: handles, locks and bolts. To give a noble look, the gate can later be decorated with various forged elements.

Reliable bolts

They can be in the form of L-shaped metal rods located on the flaps. For their operation, it is necessary to place two small pipe sections with a diameter that allows the free movement of the rod at the intended places of entry into the ground, and also make a platform on each flap for fixing the handle of the fastener in the raised state.

Wooden fence hinges

The procedure for erecting a wooden gate with your own hands is an uncomplicated event and is available for the implementation of each person. As with any construction work, in order to achieve all the goals set, it is necessary to clearly follow the advice of specialists, carry out accurate measurements and use high-quality material. The implementation of all these points in conjunction with routine periodic maintenance will ensure the reliable operation of the entrance gate for many years.

Village gate photo

What does the village gate look like? By the way, it is rather difficult to give an example of a village gate, if only because the concept of the village and the idea of the villagers about what kind of gate they should have have changed dramatically. Today, when the Internet “rolled” to the most remote corners of the rural wilderness, it turned out that the traditional perception of rural residents as “hopeless” provincials living “many years ago” lagging behind the rapidly changing trends in modern construction, to put it mildly, are a little outdated. The average villager gained access via the Internet and the opportunity to quickly and easily get acquainted with the "latest fashion trends" and the peculiarities of the technology of manufacturing the most modern gates. This is especially true for artistic forging. There are a lot of sites on which you can lay out and see excellent examples of elite gates, gates with forging elements and interesting simple gates that you can easily do with your own hands. Regular acquaintance with photographs of the gates, willingly or not, gives rise to a quite good taste for artistic forging and the desire to install beautiful rural gates in your house in the village. Only the model for the village gate will now be not the fantasy of a blacksmith in the village, who has seen nothing but a horseshoe and a hoe, but the work of a serious designer of artistic forging from a big city, accustomed to “satisfying a very sophisticated demand,” including for elite products. The technology of artistic forging of gates has such a pleasant feature that, seeing in front of him a successful sketch, or better a photograph of the finished gate, in any smithy, an experienced master blacksmith will be able to reproduce the sample of forging for a gate in the village he liked. Don't Copy - Copying a forging always causes almost insurmountable problems, but creatively rework, adjusting parts and elements to your own skills of working in a forge with forged metal. Therefore, with modern village gates, a situation has arisen when customers for gates for a private house in a village, in a village, have the opportunity to choose very beautiful gates, and a rural blacksmith can offer to implement almost any complex and interesting sketch of forging on the gate. What actually happens in practice. Let's see photos, options and samples of a modern beautiful village gate.

Despite the fact that a modern house in a village in the photo differs little from an ordinary private house, nevertheless there is a certain "stylistic chic" to make a village gate in the rural style of artistic forging, using for this some kind of everyday motives and specific decorative elements. the use of which is especially appropriate in the village. Forged metal gates in a rural style in the photo are decorated with a forging pattern in which there is a small fence or hedge made of metal rods imitating real twigs, for small front gardens and hedges in the village, forged sunflowers on the gate immediately give them a very rustic look, maybe making the gate more Ukrainian style. The forged rooster on the gate is seated on a hedge and painted with a blacksmith's patina like copper with red fragments. The forged wheel on the gate immediately suggests that there might be a cart in the courtyard of the village house. A large and spreading tree on the gate is also forged metal; iron flowers complement the entire forging sketch for the gate, creating a clearer floral ornament and decorating the canvas of transparent lattice gates on the fence of a village house. Thanks to the beautiful forging on the village gate, behind the "aesthetics" it somehow becomes unnoticeable that this is actually a very modern automatic sliding gate of a private house in the village. The painting of the village gate with artistic forging was done in several colors, in addition to the usual and convenient chocolate (brown) color of the main paint, in the figure many details are also painted with a copper patina, forged sunflowers are tinted yellow, some of the leaves of the iron tree are painted with a green patina, and the forged rooster in the gate decoration drawing is partially painted with red paint. It would seem that such a beautiful combination of colors in painting metal gates could give a too motley picture. However, due to the fact that only those forging elements that have the same color “in their natural” state were painted with different paint colors, the result was not colorful, but very picturesque, panoramic gates. A very successful choice of the design of the village gate is that it is made transparent, lattice. This also adds more naturalness to the rural forging style and organically fits the beautiful village gate with the characteristic landscape of the village. Hinting at good-neighborly, open and positive relations between the villagers. Creating the impression of a leisurely and prosperous course of life in a village house with an economy, a vegetable garden, a front garden. It seems to me that such an artistic forging pattern fits the village gate perfectly. Moreover, decorative elements made of metal, used to decorate the gates of a private house with forging, can easily and again naturally be used for other structures. For example, it is clear that there is no need to puzzle over how to decorate a fence in a village. To design and build a fence for a rural house in a village, it is enough to simply continue the style, the direction of artistic forging chosen in the manufacture of fence gates from forged metal. The same wrought-iron front garden, metal hedge, beautiful iron sunflowers, wrought-iron wood and even a rooster of art forging, all this can perfectly fit and decorate the original fence for a house in the village.

Beautiful village gate photo

It is not always convenient to make transparent gates in the village. Yes, the customs and habits of the villagers are much simpler than those of the townspeople, but today the fashion for blind gates has come to the countryside. A high brick fence, in itself, dictates to us an opaque blind gate. However, such hinged village gates can and should be made in a rural style. A proven method, time-tested, is to include stylized decorative elements of the same rustic, everyday style in the forging pattern on the gate. We look at the photo - a beautiful village gate made of wood with artistic forging. A beautiful gate made of wooden boards, deliberately roughly processed to stylize the product, under the old village gate, a forged strip, horseshoes on the gate and again wheels from a cart to decorate the gate in a country style. All accessories of artistic blacksmithing for the gates of a country house are carefully thought out in such a way as to give the impression of being used for a long time and repeatedly repaired swing gates. Beautiful forged handles help to open and close the gate leaves, and the deliberate asymmetry of the cutouts, windows and bends in the upper part of the door leaf only enhance the overall impression. The gate next to the gate of a private house was made by hand in the same style as the gate. This is a natural and justified decision. For all the seeming roughness and "clumsy" manufacturing, swing gates work perfectly, open well, and their installation on the fence of a village house is technologically correct. No "discounts" for a rural customer. The cost of a village gate is the price of an exclusive forged product. There are not many art forging workshops in Dnepropetrovsk that could fulfill such an order and make a village gate of a similar level of decorative art. But, the task is rather unusual than insoluble difficult. In a rural smithy, a blacksmith in the village, having at hand a bunch of wooden boards, old cartwheels, can independently, with his own hands, without haste, using the basic idea of decorative decoration with forging and old wood, make a similar gate for a private house.

Beautiful village gate photo

Above, we looked at examples of village gates that clearly fall into the category of very beautiful products of exclusive forging. The author's gate in the village may not be necessary for everyone, moreover, the author's works of art forging are not understandable to everyone. Moreover, given the price of the gate, which is clearly too big for a village. Much more often they prefer to make a beautiful village gate with their own hands, using simpler projects, with the usual elements of forging: hinges, linings, horseshoes, a forged strip. The fact that village gates are more often made of wood than blind metal gates from a sheet of iron is also understandable. Wood, boards are both a more suitable material from the point of view of a rural style for a gate, and a more affordable material in a village, where everyday life is often associated with various products made from natural wood. Again, there are traditionally many people in the village who have the skills to work as a carpenter with their own hands and it is natural for them to use such familiar work methods to make homemade village gates. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… ………………………………………………………………….

Beautiful village gate photo

You can also make simpler village gates with your own hands, using a certain minimum of artistic forging elements, sufficient to decorate economy class gates. The simpler a village gate becomes, the easier it is to make it with your own hands, and the cheaper the cost of a gate for a house in the village. Although, of course, simple designs for gates lose their bright individuality, and their style, although clearly visible, is manifested somehow more formally, without a twist. This is not a bad thing, economy class gates should be like that. But if possible, you need to strive to make the most beautiful gates with your own hands, if only because they will repay you for the time and effort invested in that they will delight you for many years and may cause white envy of neighbors. Who did not dare to take such a step, costing the cheapest village gates for a private house. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… …………………………………………………………………

Simple village gate photo

The cheapest village gates should be considered primarily functional, reliable, easy to install and not problematic. If we apply the usual classification to the cheapest village gates, then in fact it is a technical gate for the village. They do not impose any aesthetic requirements on them - they are a rational and inexpensive wood product. Wooden gate boards, as is commonly believed, have some artistic value in themselves, due to the color of the wood and the texture of the wooden surface. I would not attach much importance to these considerations. Wooden village gates without forging do not look like a beautiful product and it is better to refrain from installing them on the facade of the house, or as a central entrance gate on a fence. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… ……………………………………………………………………

Wooden village gate photo

A solid country house or a manor house needs a suitable beautiful entrance gate. If we do not "change" the chosen direction and again look at examples of wooden entrance gates, then I can offer you an interesting photo - this is a gate made of wood without a metal frame. That is, this is the classic design of wooden gates, and this is exactly what the old wooden gates were made of. There is forged metal in the construction of the village gate, but it does not play the role of an iron frame sheathed with wooden planks on the gate. Even the hinges on rustic wooden gates are not welded, but bolted to the gate leaves. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… ……………………………………………………………… ..

Village gate with wood carvings

Artistic carving is traditionally often used to decorate village houses made of wood. It is reasonable and understandable that the craftsmen, accustomed to working with wood and making various carvings, did not ignore such a “point of application of their strengths” as a gate. What happened as a result? Homemade beautiful carved gates for an honest house in the village. Perhaps on a city street, such a gate would not look very appropriate, but for a beautiful village gate, the carving is perfect. There was also a place for forged metal. Two metal cats settled on the canopy above the wooden gate - figurines made of iron sheet, made according to the original drawing. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… ……………………………………………………………… ..

Emphasized rural stylization of artistic forging in the manufacture of gates is not required, moreover, not everyone likes it. There are also purely design reasons for this. If a village house is built in the same way as an ordinary private house and does not bear a "rural imprint". That is, the estate looks more like a country cottage, then the entrance gate on the fence around the house in the village, perhaps you shouldn't strive to overly stylize it as an old rural product. And to make a gate with your own hands, completely modern, beautiful forged from a metal sheet. Just choose a suitable pattern for an iron gate cover for a private house in a village. This is a certain compromise - you get a gate with forging, which could equally well be installed on a house in a village and, in some cases, on a private house in the city. A good definition of a gate in this case is the gate of a manor. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… ……………………………………………………………………

Forged village gates from a metal sheet photo

Another example of a wrought-iron country gate for a manor is the well-known stylization of a metal gate to look like an old one. Or as we say - semi-antique wrought iron gates. The degree of stylization in the manufacture of wrought iron gates for a house in a village is rather arbitrary here. Only the place of installation makes them rustic. If they are installed in a village, on a good house, as a gate for a manor house, then such a forged product will undoubtedly underscore the solidity, solidity and life success of the owner of the house in the village. But one must understand that this is not forging in a rural style, but classic forging "antique". Some typically rural, rustic motifs are not visible here in the drawing of swing gates. For the manufacture of the forged plate, an iron strip with notches was used, the overlaps of the stripes on the door leaf are additionally decorated with large forged rivets - these are decorative elements. Forged rivets are included in the design of the door lining made of sheet metal, but are not necessary fasteners. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… ……………………………………………………………… ..

However, this does not mean that forged rivets cannot serve their intended purpose at all. You can make a simple and not expensive village gate with your own hands, decorating them yourself with forged rivets, which will serve as a decorative element and will fulfill "their genetic responsibilities." ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… …………………………………………………………………………

Village gate made of wood photo

If a metal sheet is not suitable for you and the iron village gate seems to you clearly not the product that you would like to see on a private house in the village. But at the same time, you like the style of forging for semi-antique gates and in general you gravitate towards classic gates with strict artistic forging. You can replace the structure of the gate - do it yourself a village gate made of wood, on a metal frame, sheathed with a wooden board. And to decorate them, use antique-style forging, very similar to the pattern that we have already seen on the village gate made of metal sheet. The impression of a beautiful gateway on a farmhouse will be completely different. These gates may not be original, but solidity and rustic stylization are clearly present. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… …………………………………………………………………

Or you can see a simpler example of a homemade village gate, which can be recommended to those who want to make a gate for a private house in a village with their own hands.

The front door is an integral part of the decoration of the entire site, whether it be a country house or an ordinary house on 6 acres. The shapes and sizes, manner of execution of wooden gates can be very different. From strict regular geometric shapes to the most bizarre shapes. Various materials can be used for their construction, wood, metal, plastic. It can be performed in the general style of the entire fence, taking into account the style of the site as a whole. Or, on the contrary, it can attract attention with its bright color and unusual geometric shapes. In addition, it can be performed as a secret, hidden from prying eyes, or, on the contrary, attracting the glances of passers-by. Wickets can be “light and relaxed,” small, as if by the way “I am and okay,” made in a rustic style, or, on the contrary, heavy, uncouth, executed in a rough manner like a gate to a fortress through which a mouse will not slip through.
Initially, it was a small door for entering a fenced-in area (vegetable garden, orchard). But they were gradually reformatted almost to the gate.
Small to large, they serve the same function. They let you and your guests into your private courtyard. What awaits the guests behind the gate can be guessed from their appearance.
Wickets can be built from sheet metal, wrought iron, plastic, wood.

Gates and fences in Russian style

Siberian Gates as an architectural ensemble of folk architecture.

The arrangement of gates in the estates of the villages of Western Siberia and Altai is no less a bright page of folk architecture than the hut itself. The gates are sometimes significant architectural structures, where the master has invested all his knowledge and professional skill. In a sense, the gates are the “face” of the estate, an indicator of the well-being of the owners of the courtyard. And it must be said that Siberian artisans did not ignore this detail, sometimes giving it great expressiveness and strength.

In wooden architecture, gates were given special importance. Here you can see the origins of the distant past of purely folk art, especially rich and unique in the North and Siberia. Siberian wooden architecture had many distinctive features, and the wooden gates of rural areas and cities are especially interesting and make one involuntarily talk about themselves not only in terms of the need for aesthetic feeling, but also about their economic justification in the life of the Siberian population. The gate, like the entire appearance of the building, strictly follows a certain construction canon, which changes only due to the special influences of the era. They very rarely succumb to the influence of an ever-changing and always ephemeral fashion. It can be said directly that the gates keep, like icon painting, their canon of architecture.

It can be argued that for three and a half centuries, gate architecture did not go beyond three types, successively emerging from one another, and in Siberia all three types of gates have survived, sometimes standing in the same quarter. These are gate types: "full", "incomplete" and "simplified". In order for us to better understand the structure of the portal ensemble, we need to explain the meaning of its elements.

Vereya is a pillar dug into the ground and serves as the base of the gate. There are four, three or two such faiths, depending on the completeness of the gate ensemble.

Okhlyabin - a bridge between the faiths at the top, has the goal of eliminating the swaying of the upper parts of the faiths and their discrepancy between themselves.

Vorotina - a gate leaf that hangs through the awnings on the tower, the gate opens and closes the gap between the beliefs, the gate can be single or double.

During this period of time, the gate, which is part of the gate ensemble, changed a number of places in the gate and, isolated from them, went into the porch or fence, replacing the gate itself.

Although there are few types of gates, this does not mean that the builder's imagination was limited in this regard. On the contrary, having a once established scheme in the solution of the gate, the architect found the means and possibilities to give the most diverse architectural solutions in this permanent canon. This again speaks of the richness of the creative possibilities of the carpenter. Having a small range of topics, the builder could inexhaustily improvise and invent new forms - this was up to the Russian man.

The decorative solutions in the design of the Siberian gates are quite varied. In some cases, the faiths are processed with a relief carving of a geometric ornament in large elements, matching the thick pillars - supports, which in the lower part - the butt - remain untreated and give special stability to the gate.
In the villages of Altai, a fairly common technique for decorating the "tops" is to decorate the gates with colored tin, stuffed onto wooden lining with blacksmith nails with wide hats in a certain rhythmic order, which gives a tangible decorative effect.

In the case of gates with a gable roof and cornice, examples of a very rich, juicy design of the latter with convex embossed carvings are not uncommon. The cornice in these cases is highly developed, looks very elegant under a simple gable roof and gives a certain picturesqueness to the whole solution.

The panels of the gates themselves were most often not processed at all. Arranged from good gutters with diagonal or triangular joining, they did not seem to need additional decorations. In newer structures, the panels were processed with an invoice or sawing cut with ornament motifs in the form of stylized flowers, a sun with rays, rosettes, flowerpots, etc. A very original solution could be observed in the area of the former Tomsk province, where the gate gave the impression of huge "mushrooms" that accidentally grew at the entrance to the estate.

The gates, as a certain economic part of the estate, have their origins in the Siberian North in the fence and gates of fortifications, the so-called "ostrozhki". The city wall of these fortifications is a solid chopped cage, often open to the inside of the fortification, without an inner wall. These log cabins were roofed from rain and snow from above.

In the wall, besides the side towers, there were middle-descendant towers, in which a passage gate was made, hence the name "passage tower". Depending on the number of parts that make up the gate, they are divided into "complete", "incomplete", "simplified". "Full" gates have two wickets, symmetrically located on both sides of the gate. One gate - opening, which is closer to the house, and the other - "deaf", distant. In the "blind" gate, in its niche, there is a horizontal board for sitting - this is a "bench for two". For sitting in general on the street, as is customary in Siberia, there is a longer bench near the fence between the house and the opening gate.

"Incomplete" gates have only one wicket closest to the house and, of course, without a bench. The reduction occurs due to the blind wicket. This reduction greatly disturbs the overall appearance of the gate, making it taller.

"Simplified" doors are doors without side gates. Such scanty gates are a sign of inattention to the gate ensemble. The reason, of course, is not to rationalize the structure of the gate, but to save money and time. In further degradation, this will lead to the transition of the wicket into the fence or porch of the house, and the gate, having become unnecessary, will be deleted from the estate.

What is a gate in a fence? In essence, it is difficult to say, looking at such a gate, where it is from, what type of gate this chip is from. It does not bear any traces of documentation securing its origin. There is no cornice on it, there is no wealth of over-calcareous space. So, due to the change in the architectural ensemble, the gate is hidden in the fence.

A special place is occupied by gates to cattle yards, vegetable gardens, cattle (gates at the entrance to the village. under the hospitable Russian character. But they have outlived their time, as the wall of the Siberian prison, from which they came out. "

Time changes a lot ... In connection with new modes of movement, when the horse begins to be replaced by a machine that is much larger than a sled or a cart, there is a gradual impoverishment of the gate ensemble.

Transport, represented by the machine, set new requirements: speed and spaciousness hit the obsolete gate in the old sense of the word. Cars are cramped at the gates of the past, especially with a cargo body hanging from the platform or a heap above it. The new requirement leads to the widening of the gate to the sides, the faiths must move away from each other and make a wide passage.

The question arises by itself, is it possible to do without a gate at all? It goes without saying that one can and can do without a gate with a faith, an ochlyabin and a wicket, but of course, one cannot do without a gate as a place of entry, exit, entry and exit.

Yes, many changes have taken place, but decorating your life, your home is a natural striving for beauty, the Beautiful has formed among peoples their inalienable culture, their national ornament, which has firmly entered into everyday life and is reflected in construction. This decoration of the surrounding space is nothing more than a legal claim to oneself and self-satisfaction in creativity.

The pride of the creator - the builder - the owner also participates a lot. To build worse than others means to show your inability, bad taste and undemandingness. Some consider the inner comfort of an apartment or room to be sufficient for themselves, and the appearance is a secondary phenomenon or even simply not worthy of attention. Fortunately, this narcissism only in one's home and ignoring the appearance of one's home, and, consequently, the street as a whole, was not characteristic of our Siberian ancestors. The desire to see beautiful things on the street, and not only inside one's hatched nest, is a legitimate and natural desire.

What will the new gate type be? We do not know, but we must think that they will be given a place of honor in the new construction. A gate is an entrance and an exit, an entrance and an exit, a place for waiting for meetings, a place of shelter from the rain, meeting and seeing off the creator of life - a person; in essence, it is the alpha and omega of his daily turn, in which his personal and social sides of life meet. The gate begins and ends with his intimate, individual space: home and family - all this made them an important place of the estate, because it was not for nothing that wooden architecture so vividly noted their special significance, creating a self-sufficient, bright, architectural gateway ensemble in the past.
