How midges appear at home. How to quickly get rid of small flies in the kitchen: fighting fruit flies and sciarids What are the small and thin flies called

In almost every home, sooner or later, small flies appear in the kitchen. These miniature flying insects do not bite and do not cause other obvious harm to the tenants in the apartment, but with their intrusiveness and omnipresence they can annoy no less than ants or cockroaches.

The reason for the appearance of midges in the kitchen is most often spoiled food - fruits, vegetables, tea leaves

One of two types of small flies can settle in the kitchen in the apartment. These can be fruit flies (or fruit flies) or sciarids (or soil flies). The former love to profit from various plant residues, as well as rotting vegetables and fruits. The latter live in flower pots and feed on the roots of indoor plants.

Where do these little insects come from in the kitchen? Eggs and larvae are usually brought into the apartment by people themselves on slightly rotten fruits. In addition, having a miniature size, these insects are able to migrate from neighboring apartments through ventilation ducts, small cracks and sewers. Having appeared in an apartment, these midges can live not only in the kitchen, but also in the bathroom, although, it would seem, they have nothing to eat there. It is clear that they find food in the kitchen, and enter the neighboring rooms through cracks and sewers. Fruit flies live on rotten fruits. Sometimes the reason for their appearance is a piece of spoiled fruit that has fallen into the gap. They can multiply quickly, settling on damp potatoes or in a rotten bulb, from where they scatter throughout the apartment. Fertilizing indoor plants with used tea leaves and tea can also cause small flies to multiply quickly. Having figured out where these uninvited guests come from, you might think about how you can get rid of them.

Leaving food in open places, you yourself support the vital functions of indoor flies - literally feed them from your table

To get rid of small flies, you should carry out a general cleaning in the apartment (primarily in the kitchen). At the same time, we must try to find a place where these harmful insects come from - their habitat and reproduction. This can be a tea bag that has fallen past the trash can, an open jar with the remnants of jam, an unsealed bag of juice that has not been removed in time, spoiled potatoes or rotten fruits. Stuck food pieces in pipes and sink grates will be enough for them. One of the simplest ways to get rid of small flies is to deprive them of food. If the flies have nothing to eat, they will soon disappear on their own.

The soil in pots of indoor flowers can be watered with a weak solution of potassium permanganate or sprinkled with ground pepper - this will help get rid of annoying midges
The methods of dealing with small flies in the kitchen are as follows:

  1. Conduct an audit of stored vegetables and fruits, get rid of rotten ones. If possible, put high-quality fruits in the refrigerator.
  2. Place all dry food products in an airtight container.
  3. Rinse the sink, put a small amount of baking soda into the drain hole and pour in a little vinegar. After the reaction is over, accompanied by a characteristic hiss, you need to rinse the sink with water (you can clean it with a plunger).
  4. The soil in pots of indoor flowers can be watered with a weak solution of potassium permanganate or sprinkled with ground pepper. Several matches stuck in the ground with their heads down help to get rid of the soil fly. It is advisable to sprinkle the soil on top with small pebbles or marble chips.
  5. Pet feeders should be cleaned and washed immediately after feeding.
  6. Traps for small flies are helpful. They are made very easily: in a plastic cup or jar you need to put a little jam, a piece of fruit, or you can pour a little beer. Roll up a funnel with a small hole out of paper, insert it into the glass with the narrow tip down and fix it with tape. The flies will fly to the smell, climb into the jar, but they will not be able to get out of there. Traps need to be changed from time to time. The used ones should be thrown out together with the caught insects, after filling them with water or detergent. Instead of a paper funnel, you can use cling film by tightening the top of the cup and puncturing several small holes in it.
  7. Many insects, including fruit flies, are afraid of the smell of geranium. If it does not help to completely get rid of small flies, then it works 100% as a prophylactic agent.
  8. Sticky tapes from flies help to remove these insects.

These simple remedies can help you get rid of annoying little flies in your home without the use of harmful chemicals. The main thing is to be patient, since insects will not disappear immediately, but after a while. Those who want to quickly destroy fruit flies can be advised to use fly sprays (for example, "Dichlorvos") or an electric fumigator, but remember that there should be no people or pets in the room during processing.

Indoor plants create coziness in the house and decorate the interior of the room. But sometimes midges appear in flowers, which lay their larvae there. They harm the plant, and because of this, it gets sick. Since you can get rid of flies in a flower pot in different ways, you need to choose the option that will prevent their reappearance.

Varieties of midges

Flying midges lay their larvae in the ground of houseplants. The larvae feed on the roots.

Because of this, the roots rot, and the plant slowly dies. To get rid of flies, you need to understand where they came from.

The reasons for their appearance may be hiding in poor soil, too frequent watering, or be external. The main factors of occurrence:

Getting rid of flies in the ground of indoor plants is easy, but first you need to consider their types.

There are about 30 species of midges. They are divided into white and black insects. Each species has its own lifespan, which depends on seasonal conditions. Some of them die after 2 weeks, while others can survive for 3 months. In hot weather, they multiply strongly, but live less... Types of midges:

Description of golden bronze: life cycle of a large green beetle

Most of all, midges love plants with soft leaves that are located tightly to each other. Most often they can be found on orchids, azaleas, violets, begonias and Decembrists. On aromatic plants with a mint and tobacco smell, midges practically do not start. Yet they don't like scarlet.

Ways to eliminate insects

It is very simple to check whether there are midges in the pot or not. Insects will fly apart if the pot is shaken. To check the ground, it is enough to pour a lot of water into the flowerpot. It should be 1 cm above the ground.After a few minutes all larvae and eggs will float to the surface... In this case, you need to get rid of them urgently. There are many different ways that flies in flower pots can be eliminated. You can get rid of two or three insects with folk remedies, and to destroy a large number of larvae, you will have to use special substances.

Folk remedies

If the larvae are invisible in the soil, and several midges fly nearby, then simple and effective folk remedies will help you get rid of them with ease. You can use any available means: soap, matches, and citrus fruit peels. Application methods:

To get rid of house flies and prevent their further appearance, the top layer of soil is removed and replaced with new soil. The soil is thoroughly dried. All larvae will die, as they do not like dry land.

Chemical substances

You should also know how to get rid of flies in flowers if folk remedies have not helped. Chemicals that can be purchased at flower shops will do this well. They are sold as insecticides, powders and aerosols. The most effective ones are:

How to deal with spider mites on indoor plants at home

So that chemicals do not harm the plant and it does not die, they are used strictly according to the instructions.

Good evening, dear reader! For the new year, the child decided to open a compote of his own production. We drank everything, but the berries remained in the bottle. Since in the afternoon we went to visit and stayed there with an overnight stay, we did not return home.

On the second day, when we came to our place, we noticed midges on the wallpaper. It immediately became clear where they came from. The reason lay in the fruit that remained in the jar. We could not let everything go by itself. First of all, we threw away the remnants of the berries and took out the trash from the apartment.

As they spread throughout the kitchen, it was necessary to take more effective measures and apply special means. In this article, you will learn: where do the midges come from in the apartment, what should be done in cases of the spread of fruit flies.

Where do midges (fruit flies) come from in the apartment

The presence of midges in the house can be a real disaster for the owners, because they reproduce at a frantic pace. Most often, they like to breed in fruits that stand in a warm room and begin to rot. Drosophila females lay eggs in favorable conditions, when the process of fruit decay begins.

Indoor plants are also considered favorable conditions for the reproduction of midges. Poor flowerpot maintenance can lead to midges. Unsanitary conditions in the house are another reason for the appearance and reproduction of midges. Uncleared garbage, dirt in the house is an ideal environment for droids.

Often, a midge can get into an apartment from neighbors who do not monitor the cleanliness of the house.

Midges reproduce very quickly, but do not live long. They not only harm the food that are in the house, but they are also carriers of diseases that are dangerous to people. Therefore, when a midge appears in the house, you need to get rid of it as soon as possible.

Microscopic wings are not designed to cover long distances. Scientists have calculated that, on average, midges move 180 m per day. So where do the fruit flies come from at home, especially in winter, when doors, windows and all kinds of cracks are closed and insulated? Let's figure it out.

In nature, these insects feed on sap and decaying plant debris. Accordingly, they live in gardens, summer cottages or just fruit trees.

One gets to the apartment in several ways:

  • with fruits and vegetables (rarely midges, usually their eggs);
  • with the soil that remained on the fruits, or brought for transplanting plants;
  • through windows if there are garbage containers or fruit trees nearby;
  • through ventilation from neighbors or from the basement;
  • multiply in food that is stuck in the drain pipe.

Even the most reverent connoisseurs of cleanliness are not immune from such a misfortune, who do not leave food on the tables, wash their dishes and pets' bowls to shine, regularly take out the garbage and sort out the contents of the refrigerator, throwing out rotten fruits.

Yes, it is unpleasant to see fruit flies wrapped in a cloud around a bowl of fruit or a favorite houseplant. But cheer up! Of course, the contents of the fruit bowl will have to be thrown out, but the flower leaves can be saved. Some are surprised by the fact that midges unexpectedly appear over a plate with freshly bought (or even collected in their own garden) fruits.

Everything seems to be fresh, and nevertheless midges appeared in the apartment.

Where? The fact is that midges prudently lay their eggs on still growing fruits. Therefore, picking a fruit or buying it, you yourself bring the midges into the house. Of course, favorable conditions are necessary for the midges to hatch.

And room temperature is quite suitable for this definition. Therefore, in order not to start midges, fruits must be stored strictly in the refrigerator! And be sure to be washed with hot water before serving. And, of course, products that have begun to deteriorate should not be stored - this is the most favorable environment for active reproduction of midges.

If the house is clean, then where are the midges

Even if your house or apartment is perfectly clean, and there are no sources for the formation of midges, but they constantly appear, do a general cleaning. This kind of general cleaning will help you look through every corner of your apartment and discover the habitats of midges.

  1. Check the sewer system, if there is a congestion, then midges will settle on the remnants of food.
  2. Look behind the refrigerator, usually there is a tray for water drainage, maybe annoying midges live in it.
  3. Be sure to audit the cupboard with cereals or homemade products.
  4. Check the trash can that may contain spoiled fruit or other foods.
  5. Clean out your pets' cages or replace the aquarium.
  6. Clean the ventilation shafts.

Where the impudent small fry can live

The owners of apartments, faced with the appearance of a horde of small flying insects, often wonder: where do midges come from in their home? And the next logical question for them becomes: how to deal with them? It is clear that in order to take them out, you need to find the place from where they appear, and destroy not only the flyers themselves, but, if possible, their larvae.

Consider the main places in the apartment where these "annoying" can huddle and multiply. Depending on the type of midges, the places of their settlement differ. Midges can grow in the kitchen, bathroom, living or green area. Kitchen midges love rotten fruits or vegetables, soaked cereals, wet rags, water blockages.

Indoor unwanted guests arise in places of insufficient hygiene of domestic animals (rabbits, fish) or in a humid environment created by excessive watering of cultivated plants (flowers).

Pay attention to two mutually uniting points: no matter where they appear in the apartment, there are two factors everywhere - dirt and dampness. Housewives, accustomed to perfect order, may argue that they have no such "disgrace" in their apartment, but midges still appear.

Then where do they come from? There are moments that are difficult to track and control. These include: pieces of food (fat) stuck in the drain, small leaks from the refrigerator or trash can, contaminated soil for flowers, cereals that are soaked or infected already in the warehouse, intensive growth of blue-green algae in the aquarium.

Accordingly, it will be possible to remove the midges if the source of its penetration into the house is correctly determined.

If you analyze all the places where midges come from, the most common ones are:

  • spoiled fruits or vegetables, cereals;
  • irregular removal or inadequate hygiene of the bin;
  • "Blooming" water in the aquarium, a dirty and humid living area;
  • flower pots (especially if tea leaves are your favorite fertilizer);
  • plumbing, ventilation shafts.

How and where do midges develop and where do they come from?

Flies develop where there has been no harvest for a long time. But the question still arises - how do they breed? After all, their development comes from conception. Even if you clean up on time and do general cleaning (at least every day), but if you spoil some kind of fruit, this midge is right there. How does this happen?

This can be explained very simply: an adult lays its eggs on ripe and unspoiled fruit, even on the one that grows in the garden. Having brought any fruit, vegetable or berries from a store, market, street or garden, a person together with them delivers these hated insects to his home.

And in order for them to develop, they need a rotting environment.

Drosophila species

The insect is harmless, albeit annoying. Scientists have several thousand species, although only 1500 of them are described in detail, 40 live in European countries. Drosophila melanogaster (other names: fruit, fruit, small fly, oxalis) is a small, about 3 mm long, insect belonging to the Drosophiliadae family, order Diptera.

External characteristics: red eyes and brownish-yellow coloration with black rings on the abdomen. The body of the female is approximately 2.5 mm, while the male is smaller and has a darker hindquarters. It is these midges that usually start in houses and apartments.

By the way, the melanogaster subspecies is highly regarded by genetics because it is ideal for experimentation. And especially for aquarists, a wingless subtype has been bred, which is fed to fish and reptiles.

Drosophila funebris (it is called a large or vinegar, wine fly) - is larger than melanogaster by an average of 1 mm. It dwells mainly near water bodies, barrels or other vessels with fermenting / decaying liquids, less often it starts in fruits.

Sometimes pests are found near a leaking toilet, because even here ideal living conditions with high humidity are created for them. Getting rid of them is also difficult. Midges get into the apartment with food from shops and markets, but their further life in the apartment depends on maintaining order and cleanliness of the house, timely cleaning of the sewage system. With the right action, getting rid of them is easy.

How fruit flies reproduce

Where do fruit flies lay their eggs? The female insect lays eggs, which are about 0.5 mm in size, in a rotting fruit or any other organic material. After about 10 days, white larvae hatch up to 3.5 mm in size. First, they are on the surface of the breeding site, then they go into the depths, where pupation takes place. After 4 days, adults appear - adults, which reach sexual maturity within 8-12 hours.

Life cycle of a midge

The insect goes through three stages of development. During growth, the larvae molt twice: 24 and 48 hours after formation. At this time, they feed on the substances of the decaying fruit and the microorganisms involved in this process. They pupate after 4-5 days.

In this state, another 4-5 days are spent, during which metamorphoses occur, changing, developing and preparing organs for transformation into imago.

The first mating in females occurs no earlier than 12 hours after final development. Only from the second day they lay eggs, at a time - 50-80 pieces. Depending on the air temperature, the answer to the question of how long Drosophila live is different. In the warm period - 10 - 20 days, in the cold - up to 2.5 months.

How to determine if a fruit or other midge has settled in your home

What kind of fruit midges are they that choose berries and fruits, sweet liquids as their habitat? For a person who does not understand the varieties of flies, it is sometimes difficult to distinguish a fruit midge from a sewer one, in the forest at times.

They have a number of features that will allow them to be "identified":

  • Small sizes of 1-3 mm.
  • Oval, bulbous body.
  • Slow, so-called "drunk" flight.
  • Two symmetrical wings and 6-8 legs.
  • The color of insects can be brown, yellow, less often black, orange.

Fruit gnats lay eggs only on the surface of fruits, berries and vegetables, and by overripening of fruits and the appearance of a nutrient medium, the larvae turn into gnats. For human health, these midges are not dangerous, then the neighborhood with them does not become more pleasant from this. Mokshas fly into the mouth, nose, stain windows, furniture, walls, textiles, and give the house an unaesthetic look.

If a midge appears, how to get rid of it is a paramount question. The main rule is to leave the midges without food and a nutrient medium, that is, remove fruits, especially citrus fruits, out of the reach of an inaccessible place, do not spray air fresheners from the aromas of cherry, lemon and orange.

And then the midges will die or simply fly away to look for more favorable conditions. Despite their modest size, fruit flies are capable of flying over great distances. Getting rid of midges is a troublesome task.

Therefore, you need to keep the apartment and house clean, make sure that the trash can is regularly thrown away, so that no food debris, pieces of fruits and vegetables, and spilled liquids remain behind and under the furniture. It is necessary to pay due attention to the state of the contents of the cells of pets and the soil in the pots of indoor plants. Such simple prophylaxis will protect against unpleasant "neighborhood".

The reasons why midges appear

According to experts, today more than 1000 species of midges are known:

  1. Some annoy the animals.
  2. Some are harmful to plants.
  3. Some annoy the person by filling his home.
  4. Most often, these annoying insects are fruit flies or wine flies.

You won't be able to get rid of these annoying insects until you remove the source of their vital activity from your apartment.

To do this, you need to know their favorite habitats:

  • The kitchen comes first. It is here that various products are found, including their favorite delicacy - rotten vegetables or fruits.
  • The second place is taken by the bathroom, in which people leave damp things, wet floor rags. In time, an uncorrectable blockage of the water supply system can also become the source of their appearance.
  • In third place are animal cages or aquariums. With improper or untimely pet care, you run the risk of acquiring such annoying neighbors.
  • In fourth place are vases of flowers or indoor flowers, which are very often watered.

Such places can be listed for a very long time, here you need to highlight the main factors: it is dirt and constant dampness. By eliminating these two factors in your apartment, you will forever get rid of annoying guests. In addition to domestic midges, a person can be annoyed by another species that lives on the street.

The favorite place of these insects is vegetable gardens and summer cottages where people work. In addition to annoying, this species also bites, so working in the garden becomes a challenge.

The activity of this midge occurs in the evening. Crawling out of the ground, it begins to annoy a person, flying into his ears, eyes or nose. People call her an earthen flea, which corresponds to her lifestyle. To combat an earthen flea, various mosquito and fly repellents or alternative methods (for example, tea tree oil) are used.

How to prevent flies from appearing in your apartment

Start by looking for the source of the midges. Check all cabinets carefully where food is stored. Look in the sink drain as well, as very often food debris accumulates there, which create ideal conditions for feeding gnats.

Sometimes they can be seen on plants and flowers that have been stored in the house for quite some time and have begun to deteriorate. And one more very important point - get rid of all spoiled products, since the decay processes are ideal conditions for the development of fruit flies.

To get rid of gnats, remove all foods, shriveled flowers and plants that are sources of obsessive flies.

Now in your house there are only those representatives of the family who did not have time to leave their habitable habitat. In order for them to disappear, prepare the bait. To do this, put some jam or a piece of fruit at the bottom of the glass jar. Now make a funnel out of plain paper by cutting a hole at the end of it.

All midges will fly into the jar through the hole, but they cannot fly out. This way you can get rid of the midges. Once in an apartment, flies multiply quickly, and it is very difficult to get them out. It is worth leaving a rotting fruit or vegetable on the table overnight; by the morning you will be provided with a full kitchen of winged "guests".

To get rid of fruit flies, first find a source of their food and reproduction, put it not just in the trash can, but away from home.

You should always follow preventive measures:

  1. Wash pets' dishes regularly;
  2. Make sure that the pieces of food do not fall into the cracks, that damp or spoiled fruits do not lie anywhere;
  3. Store the harvest and fruits purchased for future use, if possible, in the basement;
  4. Take out the trash in a timely manner, wash the bucket, do not leave it open;
  5. Watering indoor plants less often, it is better to put them in those rooms where Drosophila has nothing to eat.

If you constantly monitor this, then even if the flies appear, after a while they will disappear on their own, without the use of chemistry. The timing depends on how long they will live without food. In addition, immediately rinse vegetables and fruits brought home with hot water, it is better to pour over boiling water, this will kill the eggs.

In late autumn - early spring, when it is cold outside, and fruit flies move closer to warm places, it is enough to simply ventilate the rooms every day.

Eliminating flying flies is much more difficult than preventing their formation. To do this, it is recommended to study some preventive tips:

  • The first thing to take care of is to take out food waste from the house or apartment in a timely manner.
  • Keep your taps in good working order and keep your kitchen or bathroom dry and clean up spilled water immediately.
  • Provide your windows and doors with protective screens that, in addition to gnats, keep flies and mosquitoes away.
  • Check your houseplants for fluid build-up in the pot trays.

Insect control methods in the kitchen

Getting rid of the midge is quite simple, for this you just need to remove the food in which the midge lives. If they start to rot, you can throw it away when the fruit is intact, you can hide it in the refrigerator. After that, the midge will disappear by itself, since its life is very short, and there will be no breeding environment.

The source of food for midges can be various cereals, bread, or pet food. Tie all cereals, dried fruits, jam jars tightly. If you do not remove all food, then the midge will multiply at a frantic pace and get rid of it, it will not be easy at all.

There are several ways to get rid of annoying insects. Cleanliness in the house - will prevent the appearance of midges.

Vinegar and soapy water against midges. You can take a jar or small container into which you pour 3 tablespoons of vinegar and soapy water. Place the prepared solution closer to the place where the midges live, they will smell and drown in the vinegar solution.

Velcro for flies. It will allow you to collect not only midges, but also other insects living in the house. Special Velcro can be purchased at the store or market. Orange with cloves. A good remedy for fighting food midges. Take an orange peel, place it in a dry clove and place it where the midge lives.

Getting rid of midges in the house is not so difficult. Take a trash bag and put a banana peel, apple core, or other rotten fruit in it. Place it in an open bag and leave it overnight.

Sutra carefully roll up the bag in which the mosquito was collected during the night and throw it in the trash. There are several types of midges that can live in the house, but most often they appear in food or houseplants.

If you read our tips late, and clouds of flies have already filled your home:

  1. Trap 1
  2. Place a slice of melon or watermelon in a brand new plastic bag so that insects can fly into it without hindrance. They will surely enjoy such a treat. In the morning, you should simply tie the insect bag and take it to the trash. If the flies soon reappeared, then this is already a new offspring.

  3. Trap 2
  4. Pour kvass or fruit juice into the bottle (about a quarter), close the hole with a paper funnel. Insects will get into the container, but it will be problematic for them to get out through the narrow opening.

    Drosophila is removed from indoor flowers with the help of insecticides, potassium permanganate solution. But before you use chemistry, try simply hanging sticky tape over the plant.

An effective method for getting rid of fruit flies is a mixture of apple cider vinegar and dishwashing liquid. Dilute the ingredients in jars 1: 1, place in those parts of the apartment where insects have been seen. Refresh the solution weekly and the problem will go away soon.

How to get rid of midges in flowerpots

If the midge is bred in indoor plants, the first thing to do is to separate the healthy flowerpots from the damaged ones, otherwise there is a high probability that the midge will begin to multiply on other plants. To prevent the reproduction of midges, it is necessary to carry out prevention.

Take a small amount of potassium permanganate, dilute it in water and water the soil of the plants. The solution of potassium permanganate must be very weak, otherwise you can burn the flower. Dilute the soap in water and pour over the pot. Such a remedy will help get rid of midges and not harm the flowerpots.

Peeled garlic. The garlic must be cut into several thin slices and spread out on the surface of the potting soil. Orange peel. Cut the orange peel into strips and dry a little and stick into the soil of the plants.

In a store that sells indoor plant care products, buy special pot care products. They will help get rid of midges and preserve the plant itself. You need to use these funds according to the instructions that are indicated on each package with the product.

How to get rid of gnats in the bathroom

The bathroom in the house is also a vulnerable spot that can become a favorite spot for gnats. It would seem that in this room there is no dirty trash, rotten fruit, sour compote, and the number of midges continues to increase. They penetrate from the sewer pipe, where the ideal conditions for their reproduction are created.

To prevent the appearance of midges and get rid of them, it is necessary to disassemble and clean the pipes, if possible. A less drastic method is to use a blockage remover. A wide variety of types of granules, powders and gels will allow you to choose the appropriate option.

You can also use the folk method that has the same effect. To clear the blockages, you will need improvised means: vinegar, soda, plunger.

The algorithm of actions is as follows: pour soda into the hole of the sink, then pour vinegar. After 15-20 minutes, pour 0.5 cups of water. If you work after that with a plunger, the effect will be more noticeable. Such simple manipulations will remove the blockage and prevent its appearance.

Means of struggle

If, after a general cleaning and total disinfection of the whole house, a flock of midges is still flying and you do not have enough patience to wait until they disappear, you can use special means. The choice of which to use depends on the degree of infestation of the house by midges.

If there are few of them, folk methods will be enough:

  • spray the flock from a spray bottle with water, alcohol or window cleaner, and then collect with a broom;
  • smoke camphor from the house (heating it in a frying pan) or scare off with the smell of garlic, geranium, horseradish;
  • collect fruit gnats with a vacuum cleaner or tape;
  • make a trap with your own hands.

If the number of fruit gnats is massive, you can use ready-made products:

  1. Traps. Thanks to the special shape and bait inside, they allow you to get rid of parasites in a short time;
  2. Sprays. Contains contact, lethal substances for fruit flies;
  3. Zappers. Special devices that shock flies with electric current;
  4. Repellents. Their work is based on scaring away fruit midges, but there are some that contribute to their death;
  5. Gels. Liquid substances that are toxic to insects. Ideal for wastewater treatment.

When using, please note that some of them are toxic and require compliance with safety rules. All methods are good in the fight, the main thing is to eliminate the paths from where midges can appear in the apartment and not give them a chance for further reproduction.

Bringing the purchased fruits home, you need to rinse well or pour over boiling water (then the eggs of the midge will die) and put in the refrigerator.

In the cold, these insects do not reproduce. If somewhere some fruit has rotted, you immediately need to get rid of it and immediately wash the place where it was located thoroughly. Be sure to frequently check the places where the food is stored:

  • potato;
  • carrot;
  • bow, etc.

In this case, it is important to cleanse them from possible rotting. When watering indoor plants, you should not get carried away with too strong saturation of the soil with water. You should not store garbage bags and buckets for a long time, as garbage tends to deteriorate, and hence the appearance of midges only increases. If you follow these rules, then you can not use chemical agents - the midges themselves will disappear without even appearing.

How to poison midges

It doesn't matter what the midges start from, if they have already appeared. When it is necessary to get rid of them as soon as possible, you need to resort to modern means, not forgetting about the hygiene of the room.

The people have long known not only why midges appear, but also how best to get rid of them. Such breeding methods will not harm pets, plants, children or adults.

  • Pour water into a jar, add dish soap and apple cider vinegar.
  • Place the jar in places where insects accumulate. They will disappear in just a few hours. The trap will attract midges, and the detergent in the composition will not allow you to get out. To improve efficiency, it needs to be updated weekly.

  • A glass of sweet drink has a similar effect.
  • Pull a film over it, in which you make holes with a needle. Moshkara will crawl for food through these holes, but will no longer be able to fly back.

  • If you do not want to build traps, you can use the available means. You can pour beer or wine into the cake lid so that the bottom is closed. Insects gather on the smell, drown in it.
  • Leave compote, sweet tea, juice, fruit syrup, wine drink in the jar.
  • Let it stand for at least a night. In the morning, quickly cover the jar with a lid. To kill the midges that have accumulated in it, you can put it in the microwave for a minute or in the refrigerator for 120 minutes.

Modern ways of fighting

Due to the variety of drugs, the housewives face the question of the right choice. Modern anti-fly agents do not spoil the surfaces of expensive furniture and walls, are harmless, almost safe for humans and pets, are convenient to use, and allow midges to be instantly released.

Simply and quickly get rid of them in the house will help:

  1. Sprays against flying or crawling insects: Raptor, Raid, Neo-dichlorvos.
  2. Special gels are applied to the surface of a bin or sink.
  3. For flowers it is recommended to use Aktara, Mukhoed, Thunder-2, Fitoverm, Bazudin, pencil "Mashenka (small pieces), Kinmiks".

During treatment with any chemical agent against midges, use a respirator, rubber gloves, and glasses. Remove food, children's toys and small items from the treated surfaces. Small children and pets should not be present in the house or apartment.

Windows and doors are tightly closed so that pests do not reappear and cannot enter from other rooms.

A lot of chemicals will help get rid of midges quickly and effectively. The shop consultant will answer the question about the choice of the product. Folk remedies are safer and less expensive. After removing intruders, you should monitor the cleanliness and store food in the correct conditions. A person should more often clean up the places from which the insect appeared.

Mechanical ways to get rid of midges

If the midges in the kitchen are so tired that you want to get rid of most of them immediately, then the following methods should be applied:

  • Through ventilation. With the flow of air, the vast majority of uninvited guests will be expelled "beyond the threshold".
  • Vacuum. On all surfaces on which midges sit, you need to walk with a vacuum cleaner, and all midges will be in the container. The main thing is not to forget to empty the container so that it does not become an additional source of their reproduction.
  • Incense and aromatic oils.
  • The most "unloved" midges, and therefore the most effective, are the aromas of verbena, patchouli, ylang-ylang, and cloves. They will destroy the midges.

  • Camphor has long been used to kill midges. For a "killer" effect, it is necessary to grind the medicine and put it in a preheated frying pan. Vapors of camphor will spread the smell throughout the apartment, which will be fatal to midges.

Precautionary measures

If you take some steps, then gnats in the kitchen may not appear.

  1. All fruits, before being put in a vase, must be thoroughly washed and dried, since wet fruits quickly deteriorate and rot.
  2. It is best to wash the fruit with hot water or pour over boiling water, while all the larvae are destroyed, if any.
  3. It is necessary to promptly remove rotten, damaged or too soft plums, apricots, apples, pears and other fruits from the fruit bowl.
  4. Berries and fruits that spoil quickly: raspberries, strawberries, cherries and other berries should not be placed on the table, for a long time - it is better to eat them quickly.
  5. You should also do with chopped and peeled fruits - pineapple, watermelon, melon, banana.
  6. The best remedy is to put the fruit in the refrigerator overnight. It is always easier to prevent the appearance of midges than to deal with it later.

To finally get rid of midges, you need to know the exact cause of their occurrence. Sometimes it happens that no method helps. In such cases, only special chemicals can help, with which you need to process the entire room. And after that, never leave fruits, vegetables, berries and other foods on the table overnight.

Each housewife strives to ensure that everything in her kitchen is perfectly clean. But sometimes small flies can appear in the room. Often, these tiny creatures cause discomfort to apartment residents in the autumn and spring. And although they are harmless insects, many people want to know how to get rid of small flies in the kitchen.

Reasons for the appearance of flies

Drosophila can appear only if the room has all the conditions suitable for their living and reproduction. Namely: warmth and food... And if, in addition, the air temperature in the room is above +16 and there is humidity, then the appearance of small insects cannot be avoided.

Sometimes it seems that the flies appear on their own, but they are not. You can bring insect eggs from the fruit and vegetable store without even realizing it. They can fly from neighbors to the smell of food. By themselves, these creatures are completely harmless to people: they do not bite, are not poisonous and do not carry the disease. But the very fact of their appearance means that the kitchen or bathroom is not as clean as we would like.

Flies lifespan is several days, but in this short period they are able to lay a large number of eggs. New insects hatch from them. It is worth immediately taking measures to get rid of them.

Insect extermination

There are many ways you can get pesky small insects out of your kitchen. It can be both folk and chemical remedies. But before applying them, you need to clean up the house, thereby depriving midges of a favorable habitat. Otherwise, you will have to endlessly and fruitlessly use various methods of how to get rid of small flies in the kitchen.

Effective ways to fight

There are many ways, if small flies fly in the apartment, how to get rid of them using folk methods.

In the warm season, small midges may appear in an apartment or a private house, the scientific name of which is Drosophila. They do not tolerate various infections and do not pose a danger to humans, since, unlike blood-sucking insects, they do not bite warm-blooded creatures. Miniature flies hatch from eggs laid on the surface of fruits and vegetables and reproduce very quickly. The main source of food for fruit flies is decaying organic matter: ripe and overripe fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, old tea leaves and other plant residues. To get rid of small flies in the kitchen, you can use chemicals, purchased and homemade traps. But first of all, it is worth putting things in order in the kitchen and in the back rooms, where food supplies are usually stored.

Cleaning the kitchen

The genus Drosophila includes up to 70 species, each of which has certain food preferences. But all of them are attracted by the smell of acid produced by fermented or sour foods. Small midges fluttering around the kitchen are called in everyday life differently: wine, vinegar, fruit or fruit flies. But the ways to get rid of all fruit flies are the same.

Before starting the extermination of flying individuals, it is necessary to put things in order in the kitchen and hide products in places where midges cannot reach them:

  • Throw away rotten fruits and vegetables.
  • Wash the trash bin with laundry soap, even if a trash bag is inserted inside it (dried drops and drips of fruit juice can become a food source for gnats).
  • Carry out a general cleaning in the kitchen, thoroughly washing out all hard-to-reach places (under the refrigerator, at tables and cabinets), because any stains from spilled liquids can attract midges.
  • Clean the sink and drain under it from accumulated organic debris (rinse with any product, scald with boiling soapy water, clean the drain walls with a brush).
  • Throw away dirty, worn-out kitchen rags and sponges.
  • Cover any food or food left on the kitchen or dining table with an inverted plate, clean towel, and lid.
  • Food stocks that are stored at room temperature should be placed in cans, plastic containers or tight plastic bags that can be sealed.
  • Store food that can withstand low temperatures in the refrigerator or freezer.
  • After each preparation or meal, thoroughly wipe tables, cabinets and sinks, as water droplets also attract fruit flies.

If you put things in order and leave fruit flies without a food source, their population will gradually disappear without any additional measures. But this will not happen immediately - for another 10-70 days it will be possible to observe insects flying in the kitchen. You can quickly kill fruit flies only with bait traps, which are easy to purchase from a hardware store or make your own.

Drosophila traps

The range of ready-made baits designed to fight fruit flies is quite modest. If desired, in the departments of household chemicals, you can find traps with a special attractant that affects fruit flies:

These traps are easy to use. They effectively trap small insects. There are also cheaper glue-based baits:

  • Aeroxon Fruchtfliegen-Falle;
  • Raptor.

Their principle of operation is simple: a jar of liquid is installed inside the structure, which attracts fruit flies with its smell, and an adhesive layer is applied to the inside of the trap. Flies flying on the flavor of the bait stick tightly to the cardboard and die.

You can make a primitive glue trap yourself: buy cheap sticky tape from flies, apply a little citrus juice or red wine to its surface. If you hang it near the kitchen sink or in fruit storage areas, midges will fly on the smell and stick to the sticky layer.

DIY baits

You don't have to spend money on store-bought traps to fight fruit flies. They can be made by hand, especially since no additional materials are required for manufacturing, because everything you need can be found in every home.

How traps work

The principle of homemade baits is the same - a "tasty" liquid is poured into the container or pieces of overripe fruit are placed, and small holes are made in the walls of the trap, through which Drosophila can crawl:

Any of the proposed options "works" no worse than purchased traps and is capable of exterminating a large population of fruit flies in a couple of days. As bait, you can take almost anything that is at hand:

  • slices of pears, apples, peaches, nectarines, bananas, oranges;
  • banana peel;
  • apple cores;
  • old jam;
  • fruit compote;
  • wine or apple cider vinegar;
  • beer;
  • used tea bags.

Traps should be set until the last midges disappear from the kitchen. To avoid the reappearance of fruit flies, it is advisable to leave 1-2 traps for another 10-14 days. If suddenly young individuals hatch from the laid eggs, they will inevitably fly to the smell of fruit acid.

Sciarids or mushroom gnats

Little midges flying around the kitchen are not always fruit flies. It can also be sciarids, popularly called mushroom gnats. They can only appear where indoor plants are grown. Potted soil is often infested with sciarid eggs, and under favorable conditions, larvae hatch from them, and then adults.

Flying sciarids are harmless to humans, and they are not capable of causing harm to domestic plants. But the larvae in the soil can gnaw thin roots and lead to flower disease. The main reason for the multiplication of mushroom mosquitoes is the frequent waterlogging of the soil, therefore, first of all, the flooded plants should be dried and subsequently watered more carefully.

There are several ways to destroy sciarids:

  • Purchase an insecticidal preparation (Actellik, Decis, Karbofos, etc.), dilute according to the instructions, spray the above-ground part with the solution and spill the soil in the pot.
  • Use special remedies for mushroom mosquitoes (Bazudin, Zemlin, Grom-2, Pochin). Spread any of them into shallow grooves made on the surface of the soil in a pot.
  • Spray the soil of an infected flower with any aerosol against flies and mosquitoes, include attractants in the form of plates or liquids in the room.

If these measures do not help and mushroom mosquitoes continue to flutter over flower pots, you will have to transplant the plants into fresh, pre-steamed soil.

To eliminate the risk of sciarids appearing in the kitchen, you need to adjust the watering regime for indoor flowers and not fertilize them with various food products. If you water the flowers with water after boiling vegetables or eggs, dormant tea leaves or meat broth, then the benefits of this will be very doubtful, but the appearance of mushroom mosquitoes or fruit flies is quite likely.
