The benches are round around the tree. DIY round bench around the tree (photo and drawing)

Many people lament wildly that their garden plots insufficiently ennobled. Sprawling oak trees create coolness, but it's a shame to use them for hammering in nails. Therefore, today I propose to watch a master class on a chic comfortable bench around a tree with your own hands.

We take old boards or slats and take measurements around the selected tree. Please note that the bench will be digging, so try to choose the most comfortable size.

Let's take wooden planks and measure out the sizes we need. Try to do it carefully, it is best to use special tools for the correct size.

When you are wondering: how to build a bench with a backrest with your own hands, then you should not put anything on the back burner. Therefore, after measurements, you urgently need to cut and drill holes to connect the back with the main part of the bench.

First, we begin to assemble the bench on the floor to fit it up to the right sizes... We carefully assemble the bench in a circular manner, assemble it as accurately as possible, but so that you can disassemble it.

We twist the bench, trying to tighten the bolts as tightly as possible. After all, the bench can also be used as a couch or even as sleeping place in the daytime.

We collect our bench near the selected tree and carefully add it around the entire perimeter of our tree.

It remains only to screw the back into place and our wonderful bench is ready.

When the task arises - how to build a bench with your own hands, you do not need to skimp on materials, it is best to use a well-hardened tree that will survive many summer seasons, including winter period inaction.

We usually spend a lot of our personal time in the kitchen. So why not make our stay there more enjoyable and comfortable? We found in the vastness of Aliexpress useful things for the kitchen that will definitely be of interest to everyone. And they all cost no more than 200 rubles, so in addition it will not be costly for your budget.

To make a bench around a tree, you will need

  • planed lumber 45 x 70 mm (A), about 9 m
  • planed lumber 70 x 70 mm (H), about 2 m: 4 pieces 480 mm each
  • terrace boards 22 x 95 mm, about 30 m: 8 pieces of 520 mm each (C),
  • 8 pieces each 650 mm (D), 40 pieces different lengths(E)
  • screws
  • corners: 8 pieces

Features of lumber

If the dimensions of the bars and support boards differ slightly from those indicated here, it does not matter - the design remains unchanged. The outer frame must be square in any case; the length of both short sides is decisive; for the long sides, add double the thickness of the bar.

This bench, like all furniture and structures that are installed in the garden for a long time, is made of impregnated wood, resistant to weather influences. All structural parts are impregnated under pressure. Pressure impregnated wood does not need to be stained, since impregnation is sufficient for protection, and since all sections are closed, they also do not need to be processed. Moisture can only be absorbed into the wood through the undersides of the legs, and therefore this surface must be coated with glaze or wood oil. A very good protection is also a wax-like compound for protecting the ends of the wood, which covers the surface with a water-repellent layer.

The crown of the old willow tree, under which there is a bench, is light and airy, the leaves rustle from the slightest breath of wind. Leaning your back on the rough bark of the trunk is very pleasant

The location of the corners is clearly visible on the plan. The four legs provide sufficient load capacity. ”If you are looking for heavy loads, you can install additional legs in the inner square. However, this can lead to difficulties with installation on uneven ground.

Prefer a homemade bench with a backrest?

The bench consists of four separate parts and four loose seats and backrests. The manufactured parts form an octagonal bench. The backrest slightly tilted back is very comfortable. Thanks to the clever design of the legs with only two points of support on each seat, the bench is stable and very load-bearing. The inner diameter is 65 cm, which means that the bench is suitable for trees with a trunk girth of up to 200 cm.

Suitable wood for making a bench

The wood used in the garden must be weather-resistant. Larch and tropical timber species are famous for their special natural endurance. In less resistant rocks, weather resistance is achieved through special processing. For this, protective impregnations are used, which must be periodically renewed. More and more wood is used conifers(especially pine) impregnated under pressure. Pine has many knots, but due to its fibrous structure, the impregnation penetrates deeply. Pressure impregnated timber does not require additional protection. Only the cutting surfaces need to be processed.

We make a bench with our own hands - photos and work progress

  1. A bench around a tree can be built pretty quickly. Saw the frame parts and legs according to the dimensions in the bill of materials. A miter saw is useful for sawing seat boards that are chamfered at the ends by 22.5 grams.
  2. Connect the frame parts (A) using corners. Screw the corners flush to the ends of the four interior pieces.
  3. Then align the parts in the desired position and secure the free sides of the corners.
  4. Legs (B) fit into the corners of the outer frame. On the one hand, they are fastened with four, on the other, with two screws.
  5. Supporting boards for the seat (C) at the end on both sides are beveled by 22.5 grams; the result is an obtuse angle of 135 degrees. The slices will subsequently be covered with planks (D).
  6. Saw off one end of the beveled seat board, then measure the length and saw off the other end. The first set of five boards will serve as a template for the rest of the segments.

It is pleasant to relax on a warm summer evening, sitting on a bench, admiring the beauty of a blooming well-groomed garden. Of course, the easiest way is to buy a shop without bothering. But it is much more pleasant to relax on a bench made with my own hands... You will have to spend two or three evenings on its construction, but you will enjoy the work of your own hands for more than one year. This will be your favorite spot at any time of the day, as even in the heat of the afternoon one of its parts will remain in the shade. And the branches of a spreading tree will give a pleasant feeling of security and comfort.

In this article, we will tell you how to make a bench around a tree with your own hands, give drawings, photos and video instructions.

There are many variations and styles of benches, from deliberately rude to skillfully made, with a lot of small parts; from the most common to the very non-standard and original. For the construction of benches use different materials: wood, plastic, wrought iron, stone, marble and even glass. Also looks great combined benches... The most common material for building a bench is, of course, wood. It is one of the "warmest" and easiest materials to process. Also wooden furniture looks very aesthetically pleasing. And the eye pleases, and it is pleasant to sit down.

Choosing the right tree in the garden

When determining the location of the round bench, we do not recommend installing it around young tree, since it may look a little ridiculous, the more the tree grows quickly and over time the bench will press against it.

The thicker the tree, the prettier the round bench around it will look. It is also not advisable to dwell on fruit tree, since in summer or autumn you will have to clean the bench quite often of fallen fruits.

It is so pleasant to lean on the bark of an old tree, enjoying the rustle of leaves. Here you can sit alone, reading your favorite book, or spend unforgettable fun hours with your best friends.

We select and process wood

Since the bench that you are going to make will be located under open air, it will be biologically affected environment... Therefore, you should choose the right wood species. Ideal for: oak, larch, pine, teak and other materials that are resistant to biological and mechanical stress. As a last resort, you can take any kind of wood left over after making something. But if it is not very resistant to moisture and fungi, you should carefully treat it with special impregnations.

All details of the future bench should be pre-sanded and treated with some antiseptic solution, wood impregnation or special oil. You should especially pay attention to the end sides of the boards (cross-section), since they absorb moisture most of all. This is especially true for the lower part of the bench legs. They will come into contact with the soil, which will have a destructive effect on the wood. You can even put on some kind of bedding. After processing, the material must dry for at least 12-18 hours (depending on the type of impregnation and the type of wood).

Preparatory work

To keep the bench level, you need to level the area around the tree. Remove excess soil, and fill up a little where necessary. Try not to damage the roots of the tree. For the same reason, it is not recommended to concrete the legs of the future bench by digging holes in the ground. If possible and desired, the area where the bench will be located can be sprinkled with fine gravel or gravel.

So let's get to the fun part. This article provides several options for a circular bench. But first, let's look at how to make the easiest-to-make bench around a tree - a quadrangular one.

Square shop

In the preparation process, it is important to give Special attention selection of the necessary building material and tool. You will need:

Instruments:

  • screwdriver (or drill);
  • jigsaw, Circular Saw or an ordinary hacksaw;
  • sander or sandpaper.

Materials:

  • impregnation for wood processing ;
  • 16 boards 10 × 5 cm: approx. 8 m (for support posts);
  • 16 boards 10 x 2.5 cm: about 23 m;
  • bolts or screws;
  • paint or varnish for finishing the bench (optional).

There are standard dimensions for the bench:

  1. Seat height - 40–45 cm (while the legs will rest comfortably in the ground);
  2. Seat surface width: 45-50 cm.

The bench should not damage the trunk of the tree, so it is advisable, when building it, to leave a small indent from the crown (10-15 cm). In order for the product to turn out smooth, first of all, it is necessary to mark 4 internal points of support and 4 external points around the tree on the ground.

We make support posts, of which there will be four. Each of them will need 4 boards, 10 cm wide, 60 cm long, 50 cm long and 2 pieces of 40 cm each. They need to be fastened with bolts or self-tapping screws, as shown in the diagram. If these base legs are not to your taste, you can use the benches described in the third version of this article - with a back. Install the support legs at the pre-marked points.

Next, you will need 4 boards for each section of the bench. If the thickness of the trunk is about 50 cm in diameter (155–160 cm in girth), and leave 15 cm for the indent from the crown, the length of one board of the inner square will be 100 cm. Make an oblique cut at an angle of 45 °.

It will be easier to carefully saw all the boards of one section if you put them on a flat surface, setting the gaps between them with spacers. Then, using a ruler, outline the cutting line, focusing on the first, already finished, bar. Then cut along the marked line.

Secure the short boards with bolts or self-tapping screws to the support posts. Leaving a 2 cm gap, attach the following planks by cutting them off at the same angle. They can protrude slightly beyond the support legs, thereby covering the corners of the legs. It is imperative to leave a gap between the planks! V otherwise water will not be able to drain freely to the ground, which is why rot may appear at the joints. Thanks to the gaps, the bench will be easier to clean of sand and leaves. To even out the gaps between the planks, you can use spacers (small planks two centimeters thick, or something else).

The second plank should be 126.5 cm, the third 153.5 cm.The longest plank is 180 cm.If the perimeter is the same and there are five planks, then everything is just as simple: the first 1 m, and each next one is 20 cm longer Only the planks should be thinner - 8 cm. Or 9 cm for centimeter gaps.

The dimensions of the boards and the number of planks, if desired, can be changed proportionally. The design of the bench will not change much from this. But at the same time, you need to calculate everything and monitor the accuracy of the cut so that the product does not turn out to be crooked and inconspicuous. After all, your goal is to create beauty on your own!

The final stage in the construction of the bench is finishing products. If necessary, sand the roughness created during installation. Then the bench can be painted or varnished as desired.

If you are not ready to spend too much time on the bench, and the previous version seems rather boring and primitive to you, you can simply modify its design.

To do this, you just need to install one more support post in the middle of each section. The distance from the tree trunk to the edges of the base legs should be the same. And the planks should be cut at an angle not 45, but 22.5 °. So, you get eight sections. The length of the shortest plank will be 30 cm. And the longest - 67.5 cm (with a seat width of 50 cm, and an indent from the crown - 15 cm).

Hexagon bench with backrest

After preparatory work in the area where the bench will be located, it will be useful to designate six points around the tree. To simplify the task, as well as to make the markup more accurate, you can make a star-shaped shape out of paper (two intersecting equilateral triangles), as shown in the diagram. On each sharp corner this shape will be the outer edge of the base leg.

We outline the points of support on the ground. The main feature of this version of the bench, although not the main one, is that the back is attached to it. This is very convenient and makes the product aesthetically pleasing.

For the construction, you will need the same tools as for the first option. But you will need a little more materials:

  • boards 6 × 3 cm of various lengths: about 36–38 m (if you plan to make an apron, then another 6 m);
  • timber 5 × 5 or 10 × 5: 13-14 m;
  • screws or bolts;
  • paint or varnish.

We make base legs for the bench. We take bars, 90 and 45 cm long, respectively, and 2 pieces of 40 cm each. We connect them with bolts or self-tapping screws.

We cut the boards at an angle of 30 °. Leave gaps between the planks 0.8 cm or more. The shortest planks should be 40 cm each (with a trunk thickness of no more than 50 cm), and the longest 100 cm. We calculate the length of the remaining planks, depending on their number. We attach them to the support posts.

We design the back by attaching the desired number of strips to it. It will be more comfortable to sit down if the backrest is set at a slight incline of 15-40 °. Then the horizontal beams of the legs must be cut off at the same angle, and the lower backrest bar will be slightly longer than the top one and should also be cut off at a slight angle (depending on the backrest slope). Or you can attach them vertically. It all depends on your skill and imagination.

If you have a desire to attach an apron, it will not be difficult. Six planks of the same length as the last plank of the bench must be cut from the end side at an angle of 30 °. Attach them to the base legs. We finish the work with finishing.

Having figured out these schemes and understanding the main nuances, you can improvise in every possible way, make your own variation of a bench around a tree.
