Carpentry workshop as a do-it-yourself business. Wooden products: varieties, choice of material, tools and installation features Popular wood crafts

Sometimes money lies right under our feet, we just need to see it in time and master it competently. This is what savvy entrepreneurs do. As an example, let's take work with wood and waste from its processing - sawdust. In this article we will tell you what can be made from wood and sawdust.

What can be made from wood - business ideas

Wood of various species is widespread in all regions of Russia, with the exception of certain arid places or areas with unfavorable climatic conditions... But even where the wood is not mined, it can be processed.

That is why the wood business is quite developed in Russia. Below we will consider the most relevant areas of production activities for small businesses and microenterprises.

It should be noted right away that a tree means not only an array, but also plate materials (plywood, OSB, chipboard, etc.).

Chipboard furniture production

This is probably the most popular wood business idea implementation. If you want to go on sale in large retail chains, furniture stores etc., you will have to significantly invest in the equipment, but there should be no problems with trained personnel (the complexity of the work is not high).

Minimum necessary equipment(taking into account the available overall premises for processing, storage of materials / finished products):

  1. Sawing machine - from 500,000 rubles (used without feeding sheets, two people are required for maintenance).
  2. Edge cutter ( edgebander) - about 200,000 rubles. (This hand models without automatic part feed, only for straight edges).
  3. Dust removal system (dust extraction) - about 70,000 rubles.

At first, with small volumes of orders and simple details the additive can be done manually with a drill, sharpening saw blades carry out for a fee in the appropriate workshops.

And at our gates, a miracle tree grows ... And a tree is found in every house in the form of furniture, doors, windows and other items that make life easier for a person. Our review will tell you about the most unusual use of wood in interior design.

Good afternoon. Today we start uploading articles on the topic of DIY wood crafts... In this first article, I want to show you what simple crafts can be made of wood - for both children and adults. Many ideas will fit for work at school- for boys. Some ideas will do for school competition crafts from natural material... Some wooden crafts can become decoration of your summer house or yard... Here you will find a treasure trove of inspiration and joy from the anticipation of such an interesting and simple job. In this article I will prove - what to do beautiful crafts made of wood everyone can... Because here you will find simple and feasible tasks. Even a fragile woman with a manicure can do half of the crafts in this article. So - let's fall in love with wood art.

Let's start with simple magic.

Tree + sun

Crafts that glow with love.

Here are the simplest and cutest country crafts made of wood. For crafts, you need a cut of a log (ask when you will be sawing wood with a grinder to make several thin cuts). Or you can do it without a saw cut - just take a board of any size.

We drill holes in the tree so thick that a glass pebble bought in a store will fit into it. Such sets of multi-colored decorative glass stones are sold - in the gift department, and in the department where candles, vases and everything for a holiday decor.

You can simply drill such holes with glass in the board and hang it on the apple tree. You can drill such holes in the fence - if the sun shines into it at a low angle at least once a day.

That's very beautiful. Magically. Like in the land of fairies. Your children will be delighted with such wood crafts.

Simple wooden crafts

from the cuts of a log.

If you are sawing logs for firewood in your yard, you are in luck. You can get invaluable craft material for free. Ask the men to cut flat cuts for you, both from small logs and from large ones. Lovingly put them away from the woodpile and start coming up with future wood crafts. For example, let it be wooden owls... It is done simply and looks beautiful. Cuts can be nailed to each other. You can plant them on liquid nails (like glue).

The surface of the cuts can be rough, not sanded (like the bunnies in the photo with the craft). Or you can grind it with sandpaper and even varnish such a craft material. Or paint it in the color you want.

Large cuts can be used to make large country crafts out of wood. And small log cabins (made of thinner twigs and logs) are suitable for miniature crafts - for example, these birds. You can cut branches of this thickness yourself with a hacksaw - by hand, without a chainsaw.

Cuts from a log can become a canvas for art installations. Such wooden crafts-paintings can be made from any natural material. Go to the river and find smooth, flat stones. They will become the source interesting crafts... The stones are easily painted with felt-tip pens, office bold markers or just gouache (after work, fix the gouache with hairspray or nail varnish).

And here is another way to make beautiful AIR crafts from wooden cuts. Openwork through cutting with an electric jigsaw (photo with a craft Maple Leaf) looks just magical.

Here is a small master class, from which you can see how the process of cutting openwork patterns on a thick cut of a tree takes place.

First, outline the stencil with a pencil. Then with a drill we drill holes in the key nodes of the picture. And then with a jigsaw we go from one holey node to another.

You can come up with the device itself which will help you to cut wood products using a conventional drill. Do it yourself electric jigsaw... Holding on to the comfortable grips with your hands, you simply move the device - following the lines of your drawing. The thinner the drill, the more small parts picture, you can cut them out. Well thought out.

Or you can buy jigsaw- it costs an average of $ 100. You can find and for 50 we do not work on an industrial scale, so it is not necessary to buy a very powerful expensive tool.

Crafts-mosaics

From the cuts of thick branches.

If you have summer cottage a boring barn wall is staring right at you. Then you need to make it fun. Let's create a shed using wood crafts. Let's make mosaic applique from wood cuts small size... Such cuts are obtained if you cut thick branches or thin logs with a hacksaw (or chainsaw).

The basis for such a craft from a tree we cut out a sheet of plywood. First, we draw a silhouette of the future craft on it. We cut out the plywood base hand jigsaw or a special power tool. And on it we glue wooden round pieces - on liquid nails, on carpentry glue or on hot glue from a pistol.

And even at home you can make from saw cuts decorative frame for a mirror made of wooden rounds(master class in the photo below).

  1. Also buy a round mirror. Put it on a sheet of plywood - circle it with a pencil.
  2. Step back a few centimeters around the resulting circle (whatever width you want for the frame). And with this indent draw the second circle.
  3. Cut a large circle out of plywood. And glue the outer ring with wood cuts. You will get a beautiful wooden craft frame - it remains to glue a mirror on liquid nails in the middle.

LAYERED CRAFTS

made of wood.

This is perhaps my favorite type of wood crafts. Here the baked boards lay on top of each other creating a LAYERED VOLUME of the craft.

Here is a cow craft made from three layers of wooden board. The first layer is the body, the second is the head, the third is the bangs and nose.

You can paint all layers of your craft in one color (like a craft polar bear made of wood) or in different colors(as a craft mouse on the moon- photo below).

Or you can leave the textured wood pattern (as in the crafts with the photo below).

Wood fox has a two-layer structure - a back layer, and the head and tail are laid on it.

Duck craft has 5 layers - the central layer with the head, and two layers on both sides (tummy + wing).

The more layers you will overlap each other, the more voluminous and convex your craft will be. Here is an example with the craft "Lions from a tree" shows how the face of the beast moves forward, thanks to four layers of thick wood plank.

If you paint your crafts. Draw facial expressions, add small details - folds, spots, etc. You can get very realistic and expensive wood crafts. Your little hobby can become your business. Such works can be safely put up for sale.

You can create your own characters. Draw their layers on a sheet of paper. To enlarge the craft first in a paper template - translate the contours to wooden shield and cut out. Or find pictures in children's coloring pages- and redraw them at an enlarged size.

Craft from wood

For class at school

In a labor lesson.

Such LAYERED wood crafts can be cut NOT FROM THICK SHIELDS, but from a thin plywood sheet... And then such work can be carried out in labor classes within the framework school curriculum... On the topic "cutting with a jigsaw on plywood."

Here's an idea for you - how of 3 plywood boards make a two-color puppy craft. The first rearmost layer of WHITE PLYWOOD peeks out only with the tips of the ears, tail and one hind leg. We will cover the second layer with a stain (so that it darkens). Eyes, nose and lines can be drawn with a marker, or burned out with a special device for burning wood.

In the same technique of shields with different shades of color, you can make a lot of volumetric wood crafts in labor lessons at school or in a wooden craft circle.

Wood crafts

in the form of APPLIQUE.

In a very similar technique, you can make an applique out of wood. Here, too, a wooden one is taken as a basis. solid wood board(that is, not a glued board, but solid board). Because we will grind it, and the glued board from grinding can delaminate and the glue seams will be visible.

  1. On paper all future work is drawn... Divided into parts by lines. Each detail is numbered. And it is photographed (so that later on the photo to verify the location of each element).
  2. Next, the drawing is cut along the lines into elements. We outline each element on the board with a pencil. We cut out an element from a flat board. All elements are flat on top, rough at the edges of the cut and with sharp sawing edges.
  3. Now our task smooth all edges of each detail, round off... We cut the sharp edges of the cuts with a chisel. And we grind it on a grinding machine (if you have one) or do manual grinding with sandpaper of varying degrees of hardness and roughness.
  4. After grinding all parts painted in a tinted stain(sold in hardware stores). Depending on how many times you wipe the part with stain, you will get a tone lighter or darker. All light details can be simply wiped off with vegetable oil. You can check in advance shades of color on the scraps of wood left after sawing the craft.

You can also paint the details of wood crafts in watercolor or gouache(using not a brush, but a foam sponge). After painting, so that the part does not get your hands dirty, you can sprinkle it with hairspray or soak the craft with another wood coating compound (only first check what color will be on the scraps).

It only seems that the cow (in the photo of the woodwork above) is behind the moon. In fact, all the details are in the same plane. On a piece of paper. But thanks to the streamlined edges of the details, everything looks voluminous, soft and, as it were, PRESSED into each other. Nothing really gets pressed in - everything just lies side by side.

Ideas for such flat wood crafts can be taken inside children's coloring books. There are just pictures with large details... Children's coloring picture can be found in Google - enlarge and print. Or redraw directly from the monitor screen by placing a sheet of paper on the glowing screen.

Methods for grinding parts

for wood crafts

(instructions to help).

To make it easier to sand the smooth edges of parts without rubbing the calluses on your hands, I want to give some useful tips.

You can clamp the sanding belt in a special vise, also hammered out of wood. This is how it is done in the left photo below. Or come up with your own version of the device.

Here on the left photo - sandpaper is wrapped around a thick board with a semicircular edge. And the edges of the sandpaper are wrapped in a groove and clamped with a bolt twisted through a round cylindrical clamp of wood.

There are also grinding attachments for the drill. And then you can do the slitting of the parts using the rotational force of the drill and magic power electricity.

Below we see grinding attachments for drill- cymbal and drum form.

There are drill grinders where you yourself can change sandpaper- remove the old abraded sandpaper and fill in a new one.

By the way, on Aliexpress you can immediately buy in bulk grinding drums for a drill for 3-4 dollars per batch of 100 pieces. If you look, you can find it cheaper.

And so that the drill does not rotate in your hand during operation, you can create a special FIXING STRUCTURE, which will fix your homemade grinding machine in one place, and all you have to do is bring the parts to the grinding drum.

The design of the mounting pallet can be different - with a wooden clamp (photo above), or with a clamp in the form of a metal bracket (as in the photo below).

With such an assistant, making wood crafts with your own hands is a pleasure. The result is quickly pleasant and immediately beautiful. Such work can be put on stream - and set up a whole production of beautiful wooden (smooth and safe) toys for children, gift wooden paintings.

You can become a successful master. Completely unexpected for myself. It's as simple as taking a look at this article and falling in love with the idea.

Fantasy wooden crafts- is unlimited. Remember the formula for success - everything can be made of wood. The main thing is to start ... then continue ... and finish.

For example, knock toys. Beautiful fun for both children and garden decoration. Such a hammer or woodpecker can knock on your door, announcing guests on the porch. As in a fairy tale - pull the string and the door will be opened for you.

You can make decorations for the children's room with your own hands. In fact, to reincarnate and become a designer of interesting interior wood crafts. Any boy will be happy if his children's room plays with motives from the Jungle.

You know ... I'll probably continue the theme of wooden crafts for design children's room in one of the following articles. I would like to see what ideas are hidden here. And make someone fall in love with this good thing.

And perhaps I also need to create an article with wooden toys for children - handmade. You also need to write. And then it will work here link.

In the meantime, let's continue ...

Wood Crafts

and BROWN stuff.

Where do future crafts live? …. Old semi-rotted boards. For example, from the grandmother's fence. Which are usually used for firewood or taken out of the yard as extra garbage. Stop. Let's not throw them away. Let's dig in this heap and create something wonderful - with our own hands from wood.

A wooden mop-brush, if cut in half, turns into the mouth of an evil dog. A little bit of imagination and work. And now the service dog bristles and grins at you.

Handicraft, gorgeous in its artistic performance. Wood and waste material.

Any waste material (iron, plastics) and old pieces of wood can populate your house with fairy-tale characters. They are alive. They have a soul and a story of their own.

Wood crafts

Imperishable beauty.

Delaminated veneer , from old furniture boards, quietly dampening in your shed - can also be a source for handicrafts made from wood.

From this thin wood material you can cut out the details of the future craft directly with scissors and stick it on hot glue from a gun (or on wood glue).

You can also use thin birch bark instead of veneer. And also make interesting flat wood crafts.

Wood crafts

(logs, firewood and bark)

Ordinary firewood from your woodpile can be a source of inspiration for wooden crafts in the country.

If you cut a round log obliquely, then you get a figurine with a face turned to you. It remains only to draw this face, add elements of eyes, ears, nose to it.

You can fold the body of an animal from logs and round blocks. The blocks will be the legs and the logs will be the back. The head can be made from a round cut of a small log. Or scrape off with an ax face up the desired shape from the same log as the body of your four-legged craft made of wood.

Show your imagination, do not stop at a difficult task. A squirrel made of wood or a snail made of logs is no big deal. We turn on the head and a sense of humor - it will tell the most ridiculous, but effective ways to convey the delicate image of the animal using rough wood and other natural materials.

YOU can work with a chainsaw or an ax - cutting or shaving off the muzzle of your wooden craft. You can make such cute pigs with your own hands as a fun wooden craft for the country.

And in the thickets of bushes you can put a beautiful proud deer - also a simple and quick craft from a tree and branches.

Wooden crafts

from chips from logs.

It happens that when you chop wood, curly large chips break off from the log. This cleavage often has a bizarre shape - already similar to something (bird, panther, face profile). It is necessary to carefully set aside such a gift of fate, so that later you can return to it and complete the craft started by nature. Cut something with a knife, highlight something with paint, glue something as an additional detail. And you get a do-it-yourself wooden craft - beautiful and original.

These are the ideas I managed to find for the craftsmen of wooden art.

Now you can also make beautiful wood crafts with your own hands. Moreover, this article is only the first of a cycle on the topic of wooden crafts that are clear and easy to do at home. You have probably already fallen in love with some ideas and are determined to implement them - I hold my fists for you - may everything work out in the best possible way. And your handicraft made of wood will appeal to all your Family Pile.

If you are going to start your small business for the production of hand-made, creating your own "shop" on Sharovar and other specialized trade resources, it will not be superfluous to conduct preliminary analysis market and consumer preferences.

First of all, let's clarify one point - those works of authorship that "make cash" in stationary stores, at fairs or ethnic festivals on the Internet will not enjoy the same success. Selling in the real world and in the virtual world is fundamentally different.

In order for you to draw specific conclusions and determine the goods most in demand among buyers who are firmly entangled in the world wide web, we will use the data of the largest online auction eBay.

TOP 10

1. PAINTINGS. It's no secret that masterpieces contemporary art far gone from the samples of classical painting. Abstract and urban works are in the highest demand today. Landscapes and portraits are significantly inferior in popularity geometric shapes, bright and blurred spots, pictures devoid of any common sense at first glance. Nevertheless, it is with such works of art that it is customary today to decorate both the interiors of private houses and walls in offices around the world. Draw conclusions, gentlemen - you have a better chance of selling a canvas on which you splashed several buckets of paint different shades than a charming watercolor landscape.

2. KNITTED THINGS.

The following knitted things are definitely in the lead in the "knitted" category: sweaters and vests, hats, snoods, socks and mittens, bags, blankets and bedspreads. The fantasy of the masters knows no boundaries - knitting needles, a hook, own hands- anything can be used as tools. And the abundance of yarn with a variety of textures and effects makes it possible to implement tasks of any level of complexity.

3. CHILDREN'S HANDMADE TOYS. The list of options is huge, and we will not even try to list them, since with a huge gap in popularity, products from natural environmentally friendly clean materials... This trend has no competitors yet. So, at the top of the rating we have wooden toys, stuffed dolls and animals, as well as Christmas tree decorations.

4. WOMEN'S BAGS, which we have already mentioned in the second position of the rating, will occupy a separate niche... Keep in mind - this is not at all about fakes and imitation of branded goods. Modern fashionistas are primarily interested in exclusives. Uniqueness with a big, huge letter "U". Do you want to sell hand-made products quickly and profitably? Work with original materials- canvas, leather and so on, without neglecting the most unexpected decor.

4. INTERIOR DECORATIONS. “If only you knew what kind of rubbish ...” these lines involuntarily come to mind when we consider the unique design works in the photo. It feels like the main task today is to make the interior not only beautiful, stylish or harmonious, but simply unique. And that's quite enough. So before throwing away any old rubbish in the trash, take a close look at it, maybe you will be inspired and you will create a very valuable decor item from the remains of a prehistoric bicycle.

5. VASES, POTS, CUTTINGS. Pottery is simply bound to flourish - the demand for souvenirs, all kinds of jars for cereals, spices and other containers that can be used to decorate the kitchen and dining room is large enough so that your exclusive works are not "dusty" on virtual showcases.

6. COLLECTION DOLLS AND SOLDIERS for board war games. So to speak - toys for adult girls and boys. The child remains to live forever in each of us, so you will not lose if you bet on the manufacture and sale of toys. Although, for example, purely ethnic dolls sell much worse, keep in mind.

7. JEWELERY. Jewelry is a truly inexhaustible source of inspiration and a stream of cash flow into your wallet. The range of jewelry is immense, and the demand is consistently high. Find your niche and you won't know grief.

9. DESIGNER CLOTHING. Your exclusive work with name tags can have the highest, almost unbelievably high prices that can compete with products from world famous designers. But such clothes should be truly distinctive, original, unique, memorable, impressive, recognizable, certainly high quality, made with unsurpassed craftsmanship, and so on. Are you sure you can live up to all of these epithets? Then go ahead to the machine!

10. MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS, in particular guitars. Craftsmen from Latin America, Australia and Spain may well make a small fortune selling guitars own production... If you have discovered in yourself the gift of Antonio Stradivari, and seek from musical instruments your work of the purest sound, be sure - they will talk about you in the very near future, and you will not have to wait long for profit.

Well, where - you ask me - where are our relatives, the Vyshyvanka infinitely dear to our hearts ?! Why are they not in the ranking, although they should have taken their rightful first place?

Don't worry, and don't be alarmed if you have reached the heights of craftsmanship in the manufacture of other products that did not make it to the eBay rating. Focusing on the world top 10, do not forget about the national traditions that shape the preferences of buyers in our country. After all, you are selling not just goods, not just material things, but something much more - a part of your soul and personality, a certain component of happiness, home comfort, warmth and love. So every true Master will always meet his grateful customers.

Success to you in all your endeavors!

The twin brothers left the modeling business and started the production of accessories, most of which are exported

IT tools used in the TwinsWood project

Twin brothers Alexander and Alexey Twins are famous personalities in Yekaterinburg. Models, fashion bloggers, regulars of fashion parties, media people. In 2013, they drastically changed their field of activity - they sold their blogs and launched the production of original wooden accessories. And now they produce wooden bow ties, watches, cufflinks, wallets, etc.

Alexander and Alexey Twins, twin brothers, entrepreneurs from Yekaterinburg, founders of the wooden accessories brand. Previously, the brothers worked in the modeling business. Accessories and decor items under the TwinsWood brand have been produced since 2013, up to 60% of sales are carried out abroad - to Europe, USA, Australia, China, Canada. In June 2016, the Twins brothers launched a crowdfunding project on the platform - when requested for production of wooden wrist watch in the amount of 130 thousand rubles, they managed to collect 578 thousand.

Instead of a clothing brand - bow ties

My brother and I have been together all our lives, we even went to Yekaterinburg from Siberia together. Our business is built in such a way that one cannot do without the other. Usually an idea is born to me, and my brother brings it to mind, calculates, corrects, develops schemes.

In 2013, when we started doing this, wooden accessories were still a novelty in Russia. Our first products were bow ties. Once upon a time we saw similar butterflies in Europe. We discussed - beautiful, cool, we would wear such. And when they were choosing a niche for business, they remembered this idea. At first, they wanted to launch their own clothing brand, but in the end they decided to focus on wooden butterflies, as it is interesting, and the niche was then relatively free.

We got the start-up capital to launch TwinsWood by selling our fashion blogs. We spent about 100 thousand rubles on hand tools. And about 300 thousand more were required for more serious machines.

At first we did not know anything about the tree. Where to get it? How to process? Then someone from the acquaintances made a piece, someone threw wood. As a result, we made the first batch of butterflies, and gave almost all of them to our friends.

People took this with interest. Someone began to place orders after seeing such an accessory from friends. Someone saw the photo on the Internet. And at some point it turned into a serious production.

The volume of sales has grown. Then the corporate segment was added. By the end of the first year of operation, we had the first orders for 200-300 pieces. Then famous brand bought 600 items at once. One hotel in Crimea equipped its staff of 400 people with our butterflies. Therefore, now I understand that the volume of even 1000 units will not scare us.

Today we have a complete workshop - there are traditional machines, and all kinds of robots, lasers and 3D printers. On the latter, for example, we make inserts.

Main clients are men

In Europe there is an interesting tradition when the groom should give original gifts to his friends who came to the wedding. Foreigners love our accessories - they often order 10-12 butterflies or engraved watches just for a wedding.

By the way, we initially decided that our sales should be organized solidly. That is, we deliberately did not launch any sales through Vkontakte, Facebook or WhatsApp. Until our Russian and English-language sites were ready, we did not even launch ads.

The website is the main sales tool for us. A significant number of searches for the phrase "wooden butterfly" lead to us. This is a serious job done by my brother, he is well versed in promotion technologies.

Now 60% of our products are exported abroad. Most of the clients are men. By country - our accessories are most often bought from America, Australia, Canada. Now we have begun to cooperate with one serious European resource, by the New Year we are waiting for a response from Italy, Germany, France.

By the middle of the second year, we expanded our product line, we got cufflinks, wallets, watches. They even began to produce accessories for decorating weddings from wood.

We select the material for our products very carefully. Not every tree suits us. Let's say the watch can be exposed external influences- put it unsuccessfully, hit somewhere, etc. Therefore, we give preference to African varieties. They absorb moisture, but after the wood is dried, it becomes very dense and strong.

We tried different breeds and settled on a few “top” breeds for each category. The best are paduk, zebrano, rosewood. Of those that grow in Russia, we use oak and beech. True, the oak is Canadian, and the beech is Chinese. In Russia we even have problems with timber. By the way, the same oak is more expensive than an African tree. And it's harder to get it.

Despite the fact that we mainly use imported materials, I cannot say that the dollar exchange rate has affected us badly. The volumes that we buy are already quite large, respectively, the suppliers give good discounts... We even allowed ourselves to lower the price without losing income. After all, we sell more than half of our products abroad, and if before $ 50 was about 1,500 rubles, now it is more than 3,000 rubles.

Butterfly in 10 minutes

Despite the fact that we have a lot of equipment, part of our wood operations is handmade... The same butterfly needs to be processed with sandpaper so that it is smooth and pleasant to the touch.

A bow tie can be made pretty quickly - within 10-15 minutes. But this is in the presence of blanks. Our managers immediately call the client back and specify the terms. Since there are a lot of orders, we do it within two or three days.

We do not have large stocks of finished products in our warehouse. Keep more than 100 models all the time - there won't be enough space on the shelves. Therefore, it is easier to work according to a different model: an order arrives - we do it right away.

Our team is 10-12 people. Not much, but most of our processes are automated. Production is divided into “dusty” and “clean” workshops. In the latter, the watch is assembled and the management is working. We made noise insulation so that the work of the machines in the "dusty" workshop did not interfere with the "clean" workshop.

This year we already have more than four thousand sales. I think we can reach 10,000 by the end of the year. We expect a sharp increase in orders for the New Year and Christmas. Last year we worked in three shifts - first they ordered from abroad, at the end of December Russia joined. We think that at the end of 2016 it will be the same.

Recently, we successfully conducted a crowdfunding campaign on the platform - we raised money to launch a wooden clock. They applied for 130 thousand rubles, but in the end they raised 578 thousand. In the near future we will submit documents for their certification, and we will actively develop this area.

We also need to actively work on the corporate segment, this area will be a priority for us. Soon we will go to a specialized exhibition, we will communicate with the management of foreign companies. Private orders, of course, will also remain.

We still have room to move, there are many ideas. For example, we are planning to present glasses made of wood. Now we will work out the topic of the clock, and we will take the glasses, this will be one of our tasks for the next year.
