Calculate the 164 cm eyelets. How to install rings on fabric? How to sew curtains and tulle on eyelets on your own - step by step instructions

What you need to know before installing eyelets.

1. What kind of eyelets are there and which ones are better to choose?
Eyelets differ:
by the material from which they are made (metal or plastic);
in shape (round, curly);
by color (transparent, solid colored, imitating the color of metal, wood, leather and other materials);
by the diameter of the inner hole (from 10.5 to 50 mm).

You need to choose eyelets depending on the model of the curtain you want to get as a result and the cornice on which it will be mounted. Most often, round eyelets are installed to match the cornice, furniture fittings or curtain material. But if you want to focus on the eyelets themselves as decorative element curtains, you can use curly eyelets. For example, steering wheel or dolphin eyelets for nautical-style baby curtains.

The diameter of the eyelet hole must be larger diameter rods (pipes) of the cornice by 1.5 cm. Otherwise, the curtain will not move well along the cornice, because the eyelets will get stuck on the shaft.

As for the choice of the eyelet material, it is more practical to use plastic ones. They do not damage the eaves bar, move quietly along the eaves, there is no risk that the metal will oxidize during washing and stain the curtain fabric with rust. Plastic eyelets can generally be removed for the duration of the wash, and then put back. In addition, plastic eyelets are cheaper than metal ones and do not require a special press to install them.

2. Where to buy eyelets and how much they cost.
The price of eyelets depends on their size, shape, material and quality. The average price of round plastic eyelets in Moscow is 40-50 rubles. We do not recommend buying cheaper eyelets, as they are most likely of poor quality. After all, you probably don't need eyelets, from which paint will be erased from the very first wash. It also makes no sense to pay more expensive for round eyelets, since this means that the seller simply made too much markup on his product. Curly eyelets are more expensive than round eyelets, the average price is 50-70 rubles.
In Kiev I saw eyelets in Leroy Merlin. Plastic, 7 hryvnia. there are different colors. Most likely, eyelets can also be found in the Epicenter and in other places where curtains are sewn or fabric is sold for them.

3. How many eyelets are needed.
When calculating the number of eyelets that will be required for a curtain, we proceed from the following:

a) The number of eyelets on the curtain must be even (i.e. 8, 10, 12, 16, and so on). This is necessary so that both side edges of the curtain are directed towards the window. If you install an odd number of eyelets, one edge will be directed towards the room. It looks ugly.

b) Optimal distance between the centers of the eyelets - 18 cm. If it doesn't turn out exactly 18, it's okay. You can do a little more or a little less. The main thing is that the distance between the centers of the eyelets is not more than 22 cm or less than 15 cm. Then the folds will be beautiful and even.

c) From the side edge of the curtain to the center of the first eyelet, the distance is 5 - 7 cm. This distance depends on how wide you fold the side edge and on the diameter of the eyelet. You need to make it large enough so that the eyelet does not hit the side hem. Otherwise, it will not close because the fabric is too thick. Do not make a very long distance, otherwise the free end of the curtain will bend ugly.

Let's calculate the number of eyelets:

1) n1 = (L - 2a): 18 + 1, where n1 is the estimated number of eyelets,
L - the width of the finished curtain, on which the eyelets will be installed, in centimeters,
a is the distance from the side edge of the curtain to the center of the first eyelet, in centimeters.

2) n2 is an even number closest to n1, that is, the very number of eyelets that we want to know.

Example: Your curtain is 2 meters wide (i.e. 200 cm). The eyelets you will install have a hole diameter (inner diameter) of 45 mm (4.5 cm) and an outer diameter of 75 mm (7.5 cm). You want to hem the side edge with 2.2 cm.

Then the distance from the side edge of the curtain to the center of the first eyelet you need to take the following: width of the side hem + half the outer diameter of the eyelet + indent from the hem: 2.2 cm + 7.5 cm: 2 + 0.3 = 6.25 cm.

Thus, L = 200 cm, a = 6.3 cm.Calculate the number of eyelets:

n1 = (200 cm - 2 x 6.3 cm): 18 cm + 1 = 11.4 pcs.

But we need an even number of eyelets, so we round n1 to 12 or 10. Moreover, if we take 10 eyelets, then the distance between their centers will be:

b = (200 cm - 2 x 6.3 cm): (10 - 1) = 20.82 cm,

and if we take 12 eyelets, then the distance between the centers of the eyelets will be:

b = (200 cm - 2 x 6.3 cm): (12 - 1) = 17.04 cm.

What is the best distance to make is up to you. But keep in mind that the greater the distance between the eyelets, the larger the folds. So proceed from what kind of curtains you are more comfortable with.

By the way, if you have two curtains, don't forget to multiply n2 by 2.

4. What is required to install eyelets.
In addition to the eyelets themselves, you will need a duplicate material to reinforce the top of the curtain. It is imperative to strengthen the fabric of the curtain, otherwise the grommet will not hold due to the displacement of the material. In addition, the reinforced top of the curtain drapes more beautifully, the folds are clearer.

The most convenient way to do this is to use a special eyelet tape, which is a ready-made strip of hot-melt adhesive material. Eyelet tape is produced different widths: 5, 7, 10 and 12 cm.Choose a tape of such a width that will be larger than the outer diameter of the eyelet plus 2 cm.For example, if you will install eyelets with an outer diameter of 7.5 cm, then the eyelet tape 10 and 12 cm will suit you. And if you want to put small eyelets with an outer diameter of 3.6 cm, you can use a 7 cm eyelet tape. For transparent fabrics, a transparent eyelet tape is produced. The eyelet tape is sold in specialized departments and shops. You can also order it from us, with delivery.

To strengthen the top of the curtain under the eyelets, you can also use a dense doublerin, but this is less convenient, since it will have to be cut, and because of the need to join the strips, the top will turn out to be less neat. If you nevertheless decide to use dublerin, place the joints of the strips of adhesive between the places where the eyelets are installed, where the curtain will bend towards the wall. This will avoid excessive thickness of the fabric, due to which the eyelet may not close and hide the joint.

You will also need an iron to glue the eyelet tape or doublerin, a measuring tape and a pencil or marker for marking, scissors or a punch to cut holes for the eyelets.

5. How to prepare the curtain for the installation of eyelets.
Eyelets are installed on a completely finished curtain. That is, all edges must be processed. If the curtain is lined, it must also be sewn on.

The top of the curtain must be duplicated with eyelet tape or doublerin.

The coefficient of drapery of curtains on the eyelets is taken from 2 to 2.5. Otherwise, they look ugly. That is, in order for the finished draped curtain on the eaves to take 1 meter, in the unfolded state it must have a width of 2 - 2.5 meters. Consider this when calculating the required amount of fabric.

There are two main ways to finish the top of eyelet curtains. In the first case, the curtain fabric is a single whole. In the second, the upper part of the curtain is trimmed with a different type of fabric.

The combination of fabrics in curtains on eyelets is used for both aesthetic and practical reasons. For example, if the curtain on which you are going to install the eyelets is made of light material (tulle, voile, organza, mesh), then it will be rather difficult to perform a neat processing of the top edge. This is due to the mobility of the fibers of these tissues and their transparency.

The second common reason finishing the top of the curtains on the eyelets with a different type of fabric - insufficient height of the curtain material. For example, if the height to the top of the rod of your cornice is 250 cm, then the height of the material for the curtain should be: 250 cm - 1-2 cm (distance from the floor to the lower edge of the curtain) + 250 * 0.02 (for shrinkage) + 2-5 cm (curtain comb) + 20-24 cm (double hemming of the top) + 4-15 cm (processing of the bottom) = 279-298 cm. And the height of curtain fabrics is most often 280 cm.

Therefore, you need to calculate in advance whether the height of the material is enough for you to process the top:

1. Design the material of the future curtain. To do this, the fabric must be wetted, dried to a damp state and gently ironed with an iron. This is done so that the curtain material shrinks before cutting and sewing, and not after the first wash, and the finished curtains do not become unexpectedly 5 cm shorter. This is especially important for natural fabrics: cotton, linen, wool, silk. Some synthetic fabrics do not shrink, but decating is still worth doing, because, as a rule, it is not known in advance whether the material will shrink and how much. After decating, measure the height of the material again.

2. Decide what kind of hem of the bottom and what kind of comb you want to make and calculate what height of the material is required for your product. If, after decating, you have enough fabric, you can start sewing curtains on eyelets from a single piece of fabric. If not enough, you will have to combine the curtain fabric.

The sequence of sewing curtains on the eyelets is as follows:

Processing the top of the curtain on the eyelets.

1) Measure from the top edge 2 of the width of the eyelet tape (the edge of the fabric is not taken into account, it must be carefully cut off). Fold to the wrong side and iron.

2) Insert the eyelet tape into the fold, edge to the fold of the fabric, stepping back from the side edge of the hem width. Peel back the fabric to wrap around the eyelet and iron it gently.

Glue small plots how much the iron platform grips: level the area, put the iron on, press down, wait for it to stick and move on to the next area. You do not need to run the iron over the area to be glued, as the fabric may shift and adhere unevenly.

You need to glue the tape so that the hot melt glue melts, but does not seep out through the curtain fabric. Therefore, you need to know how long and with what pressure to hold the iron on the treated area. To find out for sure, you need to experiment before you start processing the top of the curtain. Buy a little more fabric and eyelet tape and practice. A small overpayment pays off as there is no risk of ruining a large product.

To avoid burning the curtain material, use an iron (thin cotton or linen material, which is placed during ironing between the fabric, which is ironed, and the iron).

3) When you have glued almost the entire top of the curtain and reach the second side edge, cut off the remainder of the eyelet tape, stepping back from the edge the width of the side hem.

4) Secure the top cuff with a machine stitch, departing from the edge of the fold 1-2 mm.

Processing the sides and bottom of the curtain on the eyelets.
In general, the processing of the bottom and side edges of the curtain on the eyelets does not differ from similar processing of other types of curtains. Exists different ways, the choice of this or that processing method depends on the type of fabric, your wishes for the appearance of the curtain and the level of your skill.

6. Mark the holes for the eyelets on the curtain.

1) Lay out the finished curtain on a flat surface. All measurements and markings must be made when the curtain is ironed and lies flat.

2) Mark the position of the outer eyelets. To do this, take the eyelet and position it at the desired distance from the top and side edges of the curtain. Make sure that it does not go over the seams, otherwise the eyelet may not close due to too thick fabric. Use a pencil or fabric marker to mark exactly in the center of the eyelet. Do the same for the other side of the curtain. Please note: the distance that you have receded from the top for the first eyelet must be maintained for all other eyelets so that all holes are at the same level.

3) Calculate the distance between the centers of the eyelets. To do this, measure the distance between the centers of the marked extreme eyelets and divide it by the number of eyelets, reduced by 1. For example, if you have a distance of 187.4 cm, and the number of eyelets is 12, then the distance between their centers will be:
187.4: (12-1) = 17 cm.

4) Mark the centers of all remaining eyelets using a pencil or fabric marker.

5) Mark the holes for the eyelets. To do this, take the grommet and, putting it on the center markings, circle the inner hole. The previously set point must be exactly in the center of the eyelet hole.
up

7. Cut out the holes.
The most convenient way is to cut the eyelet holes with a special punch. But you can also use regular scissors.

It is necessary to cut holes for eyelets, retreating 1-1.5 mm from the marking. This is necessary so that the edge of the hole is completely hidden inside the eyelet. No more hole should be made, otherwise the eyelet will not hold firmly enough.

Try to cut the holes carefully so that the edge does not frizz or crumble. The holes in all layers of the fabric must be the same.
up

8. Install the eyelets.
Place the eyelet halves on the front and back of the shade. Make sure they are level and push until you hear a click. No special equipment is required to install plastic eyelets, they are installed manually.( 250 cm - 3 cm NS 2 (on the hem from the sides) - 5 cm NS 2 (distance from edge to center of first eyelets) ) / ( 14 - 1 ) = 18 cm.

Those. finished curtain will have a total width of 244 cm, 14 eyelets will be located at a distance of 18 cm from each other (between centers) and 5 cm - the distance from the center of the outer eyelets to the edge of the curtain.

The tulle on the eyelets will be one of the non-standard solutions when decorating the interior of the room. You can hang curtains on eyelets in the kitchen, living room and even bedroom. But what is the principle of creating such devices?

Eyelets are very often used for avant-garde curtain projects and go well with techno or hi-tech metal curtain rods.

It may seem that the installation of such devices is a complex operation that can only be carried out on special equipment but it is not. Eyelets are rings that are located at the top of a curtain or curtain. You can install them yourself. The main thing is to follow the rules, which will be written below, and prepare everything you need.

Preparation and manufacturing

First of all, you need to make the side seams, then iron over the fabric 1 cm to the wrong side. After that, we cut out the adhesive fabric. It doesn't stick to front side, but to the purl. Stepping back a little from the bend of the processing, we begin to glue.

The width of the adhesive fabric should be commensurate with the diameter of the rings. It will be necessary to leave a certain number of centimeters from the top so that the eyelet does not find on the seam that will be laid. There are several types of adhesive fabric, it may require exposure not only to temperature, but also to steam.

Turn off the steam on the iron and glue it slowly. After adhesive tape glued, turn the bar over to the wrong side, fix the top edge with needles and the part that will go under the seam. We lay out the fabric so that it lies flat, and once again we go through the iron.

After the top is half finished, you need to use a seam with a sewing machine. We overshadow the part where the side and main seams are present along the entire length. finished product... Now the plank is ready and you need to put it face up, then we begin to mark the ring. Set aside the desired distance from the side seam, then from the top fold to the ring. This is done so that the device does not fly off and there is room on top.

The rings lie in the middle of the plank. We draw the inner circle, cut it out, open the grommet and install it. This trim is suitable for patterned tulle and curtains. If organza is used in the work, then under the bar it is necessary to make another fold of fabric under the glue part. In this case, the white glue cloth will slightly hide the colored organza.

The height of the fabric is measured in finished form from the inner circumference of the supplied eyelets, from the top point to the bottom of the garment. What height is needed, this is the one postponed. If the tulle on the rings has already been processed, then you need to calculate the height in the opposite direction. From the bottom, the required height + 1 cm of the ring + the distance that will be to the edge of the upper bar + the size of the bar + 1 cm is deposited. Thus, the height of the fabric is calculated in the opposite direction.

Putting the ring at the desired distance, draw a circle inside and then open the grommet. We substitute the lower part from below, having previously secured the circle with needles so that the fabric is in one place. We cover it with the second part and press with some effort until it clicks. The click must be mandatory - this will indicate a commit.

Calculation of fabric

The scheme for calculating the rings for the curtain is very simple. The first step is to find out the diameter of the eyelet itself, most often it is 5.5 cm. The number of rings, as you know, must be even.

Suppose we have a finished curtain 1.55 m long, we must subtract the length that is not useful in the calculation (3 cm on one side and 3 cm on the other before installing the rings + 5.5 cm, the diameter of one eyelet). These readings are subtracted in advance. Divide the remaining amount by 20.5 cm (15 cm distance between eyelets + 5.5 cm).

Total: (155- (3 + 3 + 5.5)): 20.5 = 7.

We get the number of distances between the eyelets, but since 1 ring was included in the calculation, its size was subtracted, we have 8 eyelets. The number is even and it meets the requirements.

3 cm, which are deducted on the sides, is the distance from the edge together with the side seam to the extreme eyelet. It does not make sense to subtract a smaller distance, since the ring may fall on the side seam. Now you can calculate the approximate height of the tulle. As you know, in finished form, it has a large size.

Example. We subtract the amount from the length of the tulle (it is better to retreat from the edge not by 3, but by more than 4 cm, because the tulle is large, and nothing terrible will happen to it). We calculate according to the same scheme and divide by a distance of 20.5, since the true distance is still unknown. As a result: 600- (4 + 4 + 5.5) = 586.5, again divide 586 by 20.5 and get 29. This result does not suit you, because it must be even. We divide 586 by 29, we get 20.2.

For 30 rings, a distance of 20.2 cm turned out. It turned out quite optimal size... The fold will fit perfectly. The main thing is that it should be at least 10 cm. This distance is small and not suitable for installation.

Curtains and curtains get a second life, they become the perfect addition to any interior.

Tulle on eyelets goes well with most styles. Thanks to these devices, you can achieve an unsurpassed beautiful wave effect.

Hello, friends! Today we will learn how to sew curtains with eyelets. Sewing curtains on eyelets is a little more difficult and painstaking than sewing ordinary ones. classic curtains... However, the result will more than pay off all your efforts, because the curtains on the eyelets are very beautiful, modern and unique in their way. So let's not postpone the matter indefinitely, let's start ... ..

We will need:

  1. Sewing machine
  2. Textile
  3. Threads, pins
  4. scissors
  5. Roulette, ruler
  6. eyelet tape
  7. eyelets

1. First of all, we cut the fabric. In order to sew the curtains on the eyelets, it is necessary to correctly calculate the height of the future curtains. We measure the height from the top of the curtain rod to the floor with a tape measure. Let's say we got 255 cm. To this figure we add 3 cm - this is the top of the curtain, it will be located above the eaves rod. And we subtract 1.5 cm, this so that the curtains are slightly higher than the floor, and do not drag along it. So: 255 + 3-1.5 = 256.5 cm is the finished curtain height. Now we need to add fabric to the seam allowances. 256.5 + 10 cm (bottom allowance) + 12.5 cm (top allowance) = 279 cm height.

We calculated the height, measure the required length with a tape measure and cut off the excess fabric. The easiest way is to pull out the thread and cut the fabric along the resulting path.

2. Iron on the bottom of the curtain for an allowance for the bottom - 10 cm on the wrong side.

3. We fold the open cut of the fabric inward, to the ironed fold, so that a double hem 5 cm is obtained. We pin it with pins.

4. Iron on the top of the curtain on the wrong side, first 2 cm, then another 10.5 cm, so that the ironed allowance of 2 cm is inside between the two layers of fabric.

5. We open the curled top, the wrong side of the fabric looks at us. We put the eyelet tape on the fabric to the ironed fold, stepping back 4 cm from the side edge of the curtain.

6. The eyelet tape should also not reach 4 cm to the other side cut

7. Cover the eyelet tape with an ironed allowance of 10.5 cm and iron it well. The eyelet tape should adhere to both fabric layers: front and back. We pin along the bottom with pins.

8. Iron the side allowances - 4 cm on the wrong side. And we bend them inward, so that we get a double hem 2 cm. We pin the side sections with pins.

9. Sew the bottom, side seams on a typewriter, retreating 1 mm from the inner fold.

10. We sew the top of the curtain with an eyelet tape, also retreating 1 mm from the inner fold.

11. We proceed to the most interesting lesson - the installation of eyelets. First, we install the outer eyelets on the right and left of the curtain. We retreat 4 cm from the edge, apply the eyelet and circle the inner circumference of the eyelet. In this case, the top of the curtain to the inner hole of the eyelet should be 3 cm.

12. With small sharp scissors, cut out the outlined circle, but not along the contour, but slightly wider, 2 mm outside the circle.

13. The eyelet has 2 halves: one part with a protrusion along the inner diameter of the circle, the second part with small spikes. We take the first part (in the photo it is below), insert it into the hole, cover it with the second half of the eyelet and press until it clicks. Many eyelets are a little tight, so you may have to suffer a little. If the grommet doesn't want to close, you may have cut a hole that is too small. Cut another 1-2 mm around the inner diameter.

14. After the rightmost and leftmost eyelets are installed, it is necessary to calculate the required number of eyelets for the curtain. To do this, take a tape measure, measure how many cm from the center of the first eyelet to the center of the last eyelet. Let's say we got 138 cm. We divide this number by the distance that should be between the eyelets, usually 15-20 cm. 138: 20 = 6.9 This number indicates the number of distances between the eyelets, round up to 7. Now again we divide 138 cm by 7 = 19.7 cm. This distance will be between the eyelets, from center to center. Using a ruler and a pencil, mark these distances on the curtain. We apply the eyelet, outline the inner circle, cut out the excess and fasten the eyelets on the fabric. Ready! The eyelet curtains are ready. For beauty, you can sew on some pretty braid or fringe just below the eyelet ribbon.

Notes:

In order to calculate how wide your curtains on the eyelets should be, you first need to determine whether you will close them or they will simply hang purely decoratively on the sides. If you just have them for beauty, you do not plan to close them, then you can take 1.5-2 m of fabric for each curtain, that is, for 2 curtains you get 3-4 meters of fabric in width. If you plan to close the curtains, then consider this: multiply the length of the curtain rod for curtains by 2 and get the amount of fabric for the curtains.

Example: you have a cornice of 3 m, multiply by 2, it turns out 6 m.That is, in total you need 6 meters of fabric for two curtains, respectively, 3 meters for each.

The number of eyelets for curtains must always be even, otherwise the curtain will not hang correctly on the cornice. In order to calculate the required number of eyelets for the curtain, it is necessary to divide the curtain width (in cm) by 20 and add 1.

Example: curtain width 220 cm.Divide by 20 (220: 20 = 11). 11 +1 = 12, 12 is an even number, so we don't add anything else. 12 eyelets are needed for a curtain with a width of 2 m 20 cm.

Beautifully falling curtains can add attractiveness, warmth and comfort to a room, it is perfect option decorate the window and make it unique. A must-have accessory for curtains is a curtain rod that secures the curtains. Cornices can be either purely functional, in this case they are practically invisible, or decorative, enhancing the impression of the fabric. The latter deservedly include forged, wooden, or plastic curtain rods with tips, the curtains on which are usually hung with eyelets.

What it is?

Grommets are rings with a flange, usually made of brass, which serve as an anchor for the edges. round hole in the fabric. This term comes from the French word oillet that existed in the XIV century, which means "small eye".

This convenient accessory appeared thanks to the ingenuity of sailors, who thus adapted to quickly raise and lower sails, because the cable slides along the metal rings much faster than through ordinary holes in the fabric. Over time, the convenience of using eyelets was appreciated by women of fashion who tightened corsets and lacing on shoes with their help.

Also, at all times, theater curtains were attached by means of rings, and then heavy velvet curtains in the houses of the nobility. Currently, eyelets are used in all these areas, but they have become especially popular as an accessory for attaching curtains.

There are similar eyelets different colors and finishes, so you can always choose rings that match or complement the finish of the cornice. There are rings that look like antique bronze, gold, or pewter. You can also choose eyelets in black, white, brown and other colors.

Dignity

It is very easy and simple to update the interior by hanging new ones beautiful curtains, especially if they are located on a graceful cornice and are draped with elegant noble folds. Rings, thanks to which the curtains can be easily and quickly closed and opened, and which ensure the creation of uniform draperies, have always been used in the manufacture of curtains and curtains, but they have recently become especially popular.

Veil or heavy curtains look much more noble on the eyelets and keep the folds even and neat. Thanks to the sealing tape, which is necessarily used when installing eyelets on the curtain, and the rings themselves, any material drapes naturally attractively and symmetrically. It is also important that the cornice in this version window decoration almost completely remains in sight, being additional element decor.

In curtain salons you can always find beautiful forged curtain rods or products made of chrome-plated aluminum, having a natural shine and attractive appearance of stainless steel but much lighter in weight. In combination with curtains and eyelets of the appropriate tone, you can arrange windows in any of the styles, from Ethno and Provence to Loft, Hi-tech or Techno. The size and shape of the curtains on the rings also does not have any artistic restrictions and depends only on the taste and budget of the owner of the premises.

Hanging curtains on eyelets is much easier than using hooks, first of all, due to the wide and free holes that easily and quickly pass along the rod of the cornice, and secondly, since the number of these holes is much smaller in comparison with the hooks. Even a small child can move such curtains, they slide evenly and have almost no resistance due to the smooth surface of the cornice and rings. An additional plus is the almost silent opening.

Unlike the hinges, which hooks cling to, the eyelets do not stretch, so the edges of the curtains will not subsequently sag ugly.

Views

Curtain eyelets can be of different outer diameters, from small - 30 mm, to larger - 55 mm. For fabrics with a thickness of 5 mm, it is recommended to use eyelets with an inner diameter of 35 mm and an outer diameter of 55 mm.

Modern industry produces eyelets from various materials:

  1. Metal, made of brass or stainless steel (gold, nickel, antique, oxide);
  2. Plastic;
  3. Wooden.

The shape of the rings can be either classic, in the form of a circle, or oval or fancy. There are eyelets in the form of stars, squares, drops, hearts or flowers. The surface can be smooth, but there are also twisted metal eyelets, decorated with rhinestones or with a convex ornament.

Plastic eyelets are considered the most practical due to their low cost and greater ease of maintenance, since when washing curtains with plastic rings there is no danger of rust. Rings made of white plastic are more advantageous for long-term use and frequent washing, since the coating on colored rings can peel off or shed.

When installing on heavy curtain fabrics, it is important to select quality rings made from hard materials such as Various types metal or thick plastic. They don't have to be expensive rings, but they are strong enough to support the weight of the curtains. On thin fabrics such as tulle or organza, it is better to install plastic eyelets.

Choosing the quality of the rings is about finding a balance between price and functionality.

Eaves

When choosing a curtain rod for curtains with eyelets, you should pay attention to the following points:

  1. The style in which the room is decorated... V modern interior the cornice should be simple and concise, not burdened with unnecessary details in the form of twisted forged tips or gilding, which will be appropriate for design solutions in the Baroque or Modern style.
  2. Curtains to be placed. Be sure to take into account the weight of the curtains. For light curtains, a plastic curtain rod is suitable, while heavy and bulky curtains will require a strong metal curtain rod.
  3. The number of levels that will be on the cornice. If, in addition to curtains, there should also be a lambrequin on the window, you will need double cornice; for compositions consisting of a lambrequin, curtains and tulle, the cornice should be triple.
  4. The length and width of the cornice relative to the window. It must be remembered that small room can visually reduce the volumetric dark cornice, and low ceilings will look taller if the curtain rod is attached to the ceiling itself. Also, a longer cornice can give the windows space, and a short one will make them visually narrower.
  5. Curtain rod material and color. Presence wooden furniture or finishes in the room will be in harmony with the curtain rods of the same texture and color. If there is brass in the interior, golden tinted cornices will look very harmonious in it. Silvers can add a stylish modern touch to an interior and will be matched with the same piece of furniture or a chandelier.

As for the size of the cornice rod itself, it is worth remembering that metal rods are usually thinner. The diameter of the curtain rods varies from 10 to 35 mm, depending on the material from which they are made. In addition to plastic, wood and metal, you can purchase metal-plastic curtain rods in decorative film"Wood-like", decorative cornices with faceted glass tips, as well as forged cornices, which can be twisted or smooth. An interesting option for light curtains with eyelets, there will be a string cornice.

Choice of fabric

Most important factor when choosing a fabric for curtains, its properties, density and texture are considered. Therefore, before purchasing material for sewing curtains, you should decide on their purpose.

Some curtains are needed to create an aesthetic accent.... They decorate the room, soften the lines of the window or visually increase its size, for example, when they hang below the windowsill. However, more often than not, curtains are necessary for privacy or to protect from light and noise.

Choice correct tissue for curtains is able to help in achieving the assigned tasks. If the curtains are intended only for aesthetic purposes, then their only important characteristic is whether they will fade under the influence sunlight... When for making similar curtains natural fabrics are used, such as cotton or linen, you need to make sure that the fibers have a high-quality and durable color.

Synthetic fabrics will resist fading best.

If curtains are needed to keep out noise and light, or to insulate a room, make sure the fabric is heavy enough to serve its purpose. Fine cotton fabrics cannot be used to make good blackout curtains. A good choice in this case, bulky heavy fabrics such as satin, velvet, linen, as well as all variants of dense polyester will become. When using lightweight fabrics for this purpose, it is better to add a denser lining by combining the fabrics in such a way that they visually complement each other.

Curtain fabrics range from natural fibers to artificial blends. Lightly woven transparent fabrics such as silk, organza, voile or just cotton are good at transmitting light. Thick fabrics block the sun's rays, creating a comfortable environment for better sleep and protecting from immodest looks from the street.

Here are some of the types of materials most in demand when sewing eyelet curtains:

  • Tapestry, which belongs to natural fabrics. Linen is a heavy woven fabric that was formerly made from hemp but is now commonly made from cotton or linen. The threads are woven very tightly, which gives the fabric a good ability to block light.

  • Poplin... This is a medium weave fabric that can be made from cotton, linen, silk, man-made fibers, or a mixture of any of these. The rib is formed by a transverse rib with a cylindrical filling, giving the material a ribbed appearance.

  • Velvet is a heavy fabric with a voluminous texture, thanks to which the material does not allow sunlight and cold to pass through. It can be made from cotton, natural tongue-and-groove silk or synthetic fibers such as rayon, acetate or rayon.

  • Satin (atlas) has a characteristic smooth texture and a shiny appearance. In the old days, this material was made from silk, but now it is made from artificial fibers, sometimes mixed with natural materials... Satin has a medium density and is good at blocking light.
  • Brocade Is a fabric made by interweaving threads that have a spectacular, bright and rich texture, usually with a design woven into the fabric. It is a heavy material that provides good opacity and keeps you warm in cold rooms. Brocade is often made from synthetic materials these days.

  • Cotton Is a lightweight curtain fabric that allows privacy, but does not block the access of light. The material has an airy texture.

  • Viscose Is a fiber made from cellulose. The fabric has a crunchy texture and a shiny appearance, it drapes beautifully and is well maintained for many years.

  • Organza made from a variety of materials - from pure silk to a blend of rayon and polyester. It is often hung under heavy curtains to provide some degree of privacy when the curtains are open.

  • Lace or lace tulle are one of the most traditional curtain fabrics and give windows a classic, elegant look. They can be made from different types fibers, most prized are thread lace made from natural fibers such as silk or linen. Lace fabric is an airy weave of threads that does not interfere with the penetration of light into the room, but at the same time creates coolness inside.

  • Tulle, which also includes a veil and a cobweb - this is the most delicate and thinnest fabric, serves exclusively for decoration.

  • Denim Is a heavy cotton fabric with many artificial additives. It provides good insulation for indoor environments and has a moderate light blocking ability.

  • Jacquard can be made from both natural and synthetic threads. The peculiarity of its weaving is its multicolored intricate patterns, reminiscent of brocade. Highly durable material which has an average light transmission. In the manufacture of curtains, jacquard-satin is usually used.

  • Chenille- this is jacquard, in the weaving of which there is a thread with villi.

  • Blackout PVC fabric, which is called Dimout dims the light, and Blackout completely blocks it out.

How to install rings on fabric?

The first thing to do before inserting eyelets is to calculate the required number of eyelets. To do this, measure the width of the curtain and divide the size by 8. The resulting number will indicate the minimum number of rings that must be used to hang the curtain. If you divide the width of the curtain by 4, you get the maximum number of eyelets, which will create the most spectacular folds. General rule is that one ring is placed every 15 - 22 cm.

So if the curtain is 210 cm wide and you want to place your rings 15 cm apart, divide 210 by 15 to get the number of rings (14) needed for each panel. It is also necessary to determine the weight of the curtains. The heavier the fabric, the more rings you will have to use. If the fabric is lightweight, fewer rings can be used. When calculating, keep in mind that rings are sold in packs containing from 7 to 14 pieces. The eyelets are installed on the hemmed curtains with a processed edge.

Natural fabrics must first be well moistened, allowed to dry naturally and then ironed. This process is called decorating and allows you to further avoid shrinkage of the finished product after washing.

Sooner or later, but any housewife and needlewoman may be faced with the question, how much fabric do you need to buy to sew curtains? How to make the correct calculation and make the correct measurements? Today, eyelet curtains are especially popular. Such curtains fit well into any interior, be it a kitchen, living room, bedroom, even a bathroom. we will consider step by step the whole scheme of work on the calculation of fabric for curtains with eyelets.
We will need:
  • roulette,
  • paper,
  • pencil pen.
The length of the fabric can be measured in 2 ways.
The first way we measure the distance from the top edge of the bar to the floor level.

The second way, we measure the distance from the bottom edge of the bar to the floor level, and also measure the diameter of the bar and add these 2 values.

It is advisable to take measurements along the edges of the cornice and in the middle, because in our apartments the floors and ceilings, sometimes, are not perfectly even. When 3 measurements have been made, choose the smallest one. For example, at one point you got 250 cm, at another - 251 cm, and at the third - 250.5 cm, then we choose 250 cm, because this value is the smallest.

The curtains on the eyelets have a comb on top, which is, as a rule, from 2-4 cm.

That. the calculation of the finished curtain length will look like this:
to the distance from the bar to the floor level + 2-4 cm. (this is a comb) - 2 cm. (distance from the floor level so that the curtain does not come into contact with the floor). In my case, 250 + 3 - 2 = 251 cm.
Although, if someone likes the curtains to go down to the floor and spread over it, then it is necessary not to subtract 2 cm, but add from 10-50 cm, depending on the model of curtains.

So, we made a calculation of the length of the curtains in the finished form, but remember, the allowances for processing the seams are not taken into account here, you can see more detailed information on processing the bottom and side seams. When processing the upper edge of the curtain on the eyelets, you need to remember that it is necessary to make an increase in fabric equal to double the width of the eyelet tape.

Curtains on eyelets can be made with a cuff, see how to sew such curtains.
Now let's decide on the width of the curtains. Why do we measure work surface cornice. and now, it is enough to remember 2 rules:

  • minimum tulle width = length of the working surface of the cornice x 2,
  • minimum curtain width = length of the working surface of the cornice x1.5.
For those who love the splendor of the folds, then it is necessary to increase the coefficient. Also, do not forget about the processing of the side seams.
When calculating the width of the curtains on the eyelets, it is necessary to determine the number of eyelets and their location. I make it so that the number of eyelets is even, then the edges of the curtain are directed in one direction, if the number of eyelets is odd, then the edges of the curtain are directed in different directions.

It is also necessary to remember that the principle of the location of the eyelets, the distance between the eyelets should be in the range from 15 to 22 cm. From the processed edges, we place the first and last eyelets at a distance of 5-7 cm from the edge, see below.

After you have multiplied the working width of the curtain rod by a factor of 1.5, draw a diagram of the location of the eyelets, you may need to add a little width or subtract it a little.
I hope the principle of calculation is clear and you can now independently calculate the required and required amount of fabric for curtains on eyelets.
