Decorating a house: how to make a drywall arch with your own hands. Installation of drywall arch Do-it-yourself arched doorways

Any owner of a residential building with arched passage, one way or another thought: how to arrange the design of the arch so that it would take a stylish beautiful view... In addition, it is necessary to observe the complete harmony of the general style of the room.

As a rule, the arch is used in order to delimit the space in the kitchen, living room, balcony, corridor and hallway. The design can take any shape, configuration and size, take different variants decor.

How to paint an arched passage?

The photo of the arch in the interior shows the most popular way of decorating the structure - this is the initial plastering, then painting. This method is equally suitable for classic luxurious as well as trendy modern style.

Please note that for a start it is important to correctly select the base for the paint (the plaster itself), which is divided into several types:

  • to create a relief effect;
  • traditional putty;
  • textured version of the composition;
  • apply a special pigmented solution.

Previously, before starting work, it is necessary to align the contours of the arch in the apartment as much as possible. For these purposes, plasterboard sheets, corners and putty are used. The joints and possible cracks should be filled with a serpyanka. To obtain the most even and clear contours of the structure, it is necessary to fix the corners with a profile.

Then you should ideally clean the work area evenly by applying paint with a roller. If you intend to further decorate the element with embossed accessories, it is reasonable to immediately apply a pigmented solution. After the end of the main work, overlays or decorative curtains can be introduced into the opening.

Decoration with stone and tiles

No less in an up-to-date way beautiful design arch is decoration facing materials, which include: tiles, natural or fake diamond imitation brick. Less often the opening is decorated tiles, or a mosaic.

An important advantage this method is the introduction of arch decor in absolutely any style. The combination of stone can be completely different: with paper, textile fabrics (wallpaper), plaster, paint.

When finishing the opening with this method, gypsum materials are usually used, but clinker and porcelain stoneware raw materials are not excluded. Due to their high strength and durability, they are usually located at the entrance to the house, or on the balcony area.

In order to decorate the arch with a stone, that is, its initial cladding was of high quality and reliably served its households, it is required to make the surface perfectly flat, and then select a good desired glue composition.

The cladding can be made with an individual non-standard pattern, therefore it is recommended to first apply the markings for further precise orientation of the masonry.

You can also revet the opening with natural durable stone, but this will be a very expensive repair. Moreover, it is worth considering that the arch needs to be in the opening only load-bearing wall, or a solid partition.

The use of panels and stucco in the interior

A popular way to decorate a door arch is framing with special decorative panels and overlays. Most relevant and relatively inexpensive material serves as MDF, which is in perfect harmony with the classic style of the room.

The surface is treated with artificial veneer or foil. Please note that imitation under natural wood always remains at the height of fashion.

To properly fix the panels in the aisle, it is worth using special studs without hats and adhesive solution... There are situations when you have to remove the level, you should use a spacer and foam for installation. This process is practically no different from installing a door frame.

As with other methods, you first need to level the surface and eliminate all possible cracks and joints. Markets and specialist stores for building materials offer ready-made options overlays that are fixed with a simple click.

An interesting way to decorate an arch in an apartment is stucco molding, which is not at all difficult to do on your own using glue or liquid nails... Most often, polyurethane is used, which gives the interior a special grace, chic and luxurious rich look.

You can make relatively simple forms, or perform the most complex cumbersome cast parts... The main disadvantage of stucco molding is rapid mechanical damage and failure.

Curtains and curtains

The arched opening has been decorated with ordinary curtains for a long time, but even now this design option is, at least less often, but acceptable. The entrance is masked with light tulle, a curtain or a thick curtain, which will serve as a kind of door itself.

Usually, doorway camouflaged with bamboo curtains, beautiful threads, decorative beads. This method is very simple to do with your own hands, using the cornice above the opening for fastening the curtains. There are curved cornices that match the very shape of the opening.

It is no secret that the arch serves as a continuation of the wall, which is why, when making it out, it is necessary to take into account the decoration of the walls.

As you know, wood is the noblest and most durable raw material, which is successfully used to decorate classical household items. It is better if the design is simpler, but very refined in shape. Wooden arch it is also possible to hang with an elegant curtain with gilding, which will successfully set off the classics.

Lighting solution

The beautiful design of the arch is complemented by built-in lighting fixtures, which can be point, side or contour types. The easiest way is to integrate the lamps into a drywall element in the end part.

A decorative opening is equipped with recesses, where bulbs are subsequently installed. To hide the backlight a little, you need to mask the recesses with glass. It is relevant to use colored or translucent glass, which in itself will serve as an additional detail of the interior and the structure itself.

The arch looks very beautiful, dividing the space of the kitchen and living rooms, and its lower part smoothly turns into a bar counter.

How to make an arch in doorway? This question is of interest to many owners of apartments and private houses.

It should be noted right away that the arched opening can only look perfect in rooms with high ceilings.

At low ceilings such a structure visually significantly reduces the opening. Therefore, you should think carefully before deciding to build an arch. If you accepted it, then you can find a lot of materials for implementing the idea.

Methods for constructing arches

How to make an arch instead of doors? Today there are such ways to create arches:

  1. For an arched opening, a wall is hammered according to a pre-made markup. This method is more suitable for rooms with not very high ceilings.
  2. With sufficient ceiling height and doorways their upper part is sealed with pieces of drywall or plywood to give them an arched shape.

When chiselling the walls, proceed as follows:

  1. It is necessary to delete all decorative trim including the door frame.
  2. From the floor itself, a vertical line is marked on both sides of the opening to the height of the future arch. For accurate marking, use a level or plumb line.
  3. The width of the marked opening is measured and halved. It turns out the value of the radius of the arch.
  4. The center of the arch is marked on the upper horizontal line. A screw, self-tapping screw or nail is fixed to this point.
  5. A strong thread is tied to the self-tapping screw, the other end is attached to a pencil. Excess thread is wound around a pencil, leaving a length equal to the radius of the arch.
  6. A mark is made on the vertical from the center point of the line downward at a distance of the radius.
  7. A semicircle of the upper part of the arch is outlined.
  8. On the other side of the wall, the marking operations are repeated.

Now you can start slotting with a hammer drill or other tool. The choice of tool depends on the material of the wall. It is recommended to drill as many holes as possible along the marked contour. They will help with the chiseling process. In a wooden wall, an opening is cut out with a jigsaw or a hacksaw with a narrow blade. The final stage preparatory work- processing the edges of the resulting opening and decorating it with prepared materials.

With high ceilings, you can make a door arch if you follow the following sequence of actions:

  1. In the opening, the frame of the future arch is assembled from wooden or metal profiles.
  2. Plasterboard or other material is marked from which rectangles need to be cut. Their width is equal to the radius of the arch, and their length is equal to the width of the opening. By using large compass or threads with a pencil are marked with the upper arcs of the arch and cut out with a jigsaw.
  3. The resulting blanks are attached to the frame with hardened self-tapping screws. Their caps are recessed 0.5-1 mm into drywall.
  4. The end of the opening is closed. This can be done using fiberboard. This material bends pretty well. You can use an 8 mm drywall strip. It is rolled several times with a needle roller and sprayed with water. Punctures are made to a depth of up to half the thickness of the drywall sheet.
  5. If there is no needle roller, punctures can be made with a regular awl. The distance between them is about 1 cm. They are made only from the side where the part will be bent. After a while (after about 1-1.5 hours), the gypsum soaks and the strip bends quite easily. It is better to bend it on a wooden or plasterboard template. After drying, it becomes hard again.
  6. Plasterboard is putty and the arch is made at your discretion.

Arches configurations

The arch in the house gives the rooms a certain personality. Configurations and forms arched openings there are many. Let's consider some of them:

  1. The classic version is suitable for rooms with a height of 3 m or more. A regular-shaped arch has a bending radius of 45 cm or more. If you add it to the height of the doorway, then the total height of the room may simply not be enough.
  2. The Art Nouveau arch is often erected in typical apartments... Its radius exceeds the width of the doorway, so corners remain between the vertical elements and the arc. They can be made sharp or rounded.
  3. Romantic style - a variant of the arch for large openings. A horizontal insert can be located between the corners with rounding, it can be installed at an angle.

The configuration of the arch depends on the desire and aesthetic taste of the owner of the dwelling. The arched opening can be wavy, polygonal, backlit, with various niches and shelves, with stained-glass windows, and so on.

Materials for equipping arches

An arched opening can be made from monolithic concrete, plastic, brick, metal, wood, chipboard, fiberboard, plywood, drywall sheets and other materials. When using bricks, concrete or stone, take their weight into account. For such structures, you may need a special foundation and reinforcing elements to be connected to the walls.

Metal is a material that fits in with any style. But not every metal is suitable for these purposes. Option from of stainless steel is very expensive. Galvanized iron in indoor areas does not look. It is quite difficult to make complex shapes out of metal.

Wood is a beautiful natural material. It practically does not require additional finishing.

Plasterboard, fiberboard and chipboard are best processed and allow you to make arches of any shape. These Construction Materials can be finished with plaster, painted, covered with a layer of decorative or ordinary plaster, paste over with wallpaper, revet decorative stone.

Plastic is a material that is easy to process. Plastic structures do not require additional processing and finishing.

For the decoration of arches are sold and ready-made structures from different materials.

  1. The appearance of the arch should correspond to the general design of the room. Each side of the opening can be designed differently.
  2. Any work on the construction of arched openings begins with dismantling door frame.
  3. For convenience and to speed up the marking process, it is recommended to use a full-size template. It can be made from cardboard.
  4. When constructing curved frame elements from metal profiles, slots are made on them, which allow the workpiece to be bent. The slots are made in increments of about 5 cm.
  5. For work, a drill or perforator, a hammer, iron scissors and a hacksaw are usually used. Sometimes you may need other tools.
  6. The frame is attached 10-12 mm deep into the doorway so that the drywall attached to it is flush with the wall after plastering.
  7. The assembled structure is treated with sandpaper and putty. You can cover surfaces and corners with fiberglass mesh.

The doorway will look more aesthetically pleasing if you arrange it in the form semicircular arch... You can make it out of drywall yourself without resorting to services professional builders.

Arch markings

A significant disadvantage of this design is the reduction in the size of the doorway. To see if the arch will fit well into a particular doorway, it is best to first cut a blank out of paper or cardboard and fasten it above the door. If the opening height is less than 2.5 m, it may be necessary to reduce the bend of the arch or make small bends only at the corners of the arch.

Installation of an arch with a small bending radius

To draw the upper part of the arch on the blank, we will use compass... You can make it from available tools: a self-tapping screw or an awl fixed in the center of a circle, a thread and a pencil. Pulling the thread evenly, draw the required arc. The longer the length of the thread, the flatter the arch will be.

Draw a circle

You can also make a compass from pruning metal profile

Drywall cutting

1. First, cut through the first layer of cardboard and the gypsum core. To do this, apply a ruler to the intended line, and draw along it several times with a sharp knife or file for metal.

Cutting through the first two layers

2. In order to finally break the gypsum core, place the drywall on the edge and lightly tap the cut point. If the part to be cut has a small width, you can break the plaster by simply pushing on the edge of the sheet.

Cutting the second layer

4. To remove roughness along the edge of the cut, it is processed sandpaper or rasp.

Important! For perfect joining of sheets along the edges of drywall with a sharp knife, remove chamfer 45 °.

Chamfering

Cutting blanks for the upper arch

The most convenient way to work with jigsaw or a special plane for drywall... With the help of them, you can cut any shapes from drywall. Moreover, with this method, gypsum practically does not generate dust, and the resulting edges almost do not require additional processing.

Jigsaw cutting

You can also trim curly edges using drywall knife saw-shaped or fine-toothed metal files... However, this will take some skill. A knife or a file is carried out along the marked line so that the blade penetrates as deeply as possible into the sheet. In this case, the tool must go strictly perpendicular to the surface. Next, tap the cut point with a hammer, if necessary, draw a knife over it several more times.

Cutting with a plasterboard saw

Then cut through reverse side of the sheet, on which traces of knife pressure are already visible. Then the excess pieces are cut off, and the edges of the sheet are trimmed with sandpaper. If the cut line is large enough, it is better to cut the sheet inside the outline into segments.

To receive holes(for example, for mounting lamps or sockets), you can use an electric drill with a crown-shaped attachment.

Drill bit

Cutting and bending metal guides

Aluminum rails are cut with conventional scissors for metal... To attach the upper part of the arch, you will need a special arched profile... You can buy it in the store or do it yourself.

To bend the profile on it are made incisions... The distance between them depends on the bend radius - the larger it is, the more often the notches should be made. For bending, it is better to choose an L-shaped profile - it will be much easier to work with it, and you will have to make cuts only on one side.

Profile bending

Drywall bending

For the device of the arch, you can purchase arched drywall ... It is more plastic and, since its thickness is less than ordinary sheets, it bends easily. However, buying a whole sheet is quite expensive. Some stores sell such material not in sheets, but in pieces, which is very convenient. If there is no way to purchase a small piece, you can also bend an ordinary drywall sheet.

Thin arched drywall bends easily but costs more

There are two ways to do this: wet and dry. In the first case, in order for moisture to better penetrate deep into the sheet, the drywall blank should be rolled before flexible needle roller.

Before bending, the workpiece is rolled with a needle roller.

Further the sheet evenly moistened with water and laid on a curved surface that repeats the shape of an arch, pressing down with a load. The workpiece dryer can be cut from drywall or plywood remnants.

Wet bending

Important! With any method of bending, it should be borne in mind that drywall bends well only along the length of the sheet.

At dry bending cuts are made along the entire length of the fold. Moreover, the larger the bending radius, the more often such incisions should be made. This can be done quickly with a grinder, however, since this produces a lot of gypsum dust, it is better to do the work outdoors.

Dry bending drywall

Installing the frame

After dismantling the door frame, the surface is cleaned of peeled plaster, dust and dirt and knocks down all irregularities. Further, on the sides of the doorway, using self-tapping dowels with a step of 20-30 cm, they are fixed two rack metal profiles... In this case, 11-12 mm should be retreated from the edge for mounting drywall and applying putty. If the width of the opening is large (more than 1 m), a lintels... Small sections of profiles connecting the two side guides are also mounted in the lower part of the opening. They should rest on the floor.

At the top of the doorway are mounted two arched profiles... If necessary, they are also connected with jumpers.

Fastening the upper part of the profile

Fastening a profile with jumpers

The sections of the profile are fastened together with self-tapping screws.

Fastening drywall

The very first self-tapping screws with a pitch of 25-35 cm blanks for the upper semicircle of the arch are attached. Their width should be equal to the width of the doorway plus 10-15 mm. Self-tapping screws should not be fastened too close to the corners - it is necessary to indent 1-1.5 cm, otherwise cracks will appear at the attachment points.

Plasterboard installation

Fixing corners

Important! So that the screws do not stick out above the surface, they should be sunk into the sheet by a couple of millimeters. In the future, the holes from them are covered with putty.

The finished structure is plastered with a wide trowel at the beginning starting, and then finishing putty ... The solution is applied to inner side arches, and then, after it is completely dry, on the side walls. At the joints of drywall, to protect the solution from cracking, it is attached with a putty painting net.

After the installation is completed, the arch is covered with putty

Installing an arch in a house can pursue several goals: to make the interior original and distinctive, or to visually increase the space. The absence of door leaves and space for opening them allows rational use of the area of a compact apartment.

To decorate a room with, it is not necessary to use the expensive services of professional builders, you can make an arch in the doorway yourself. And on help will come This article! In it, we examined the main questions that beginners have: what types of arches are, what materials they are made of. Also here are step-by-step instructions for the work performed, advice from specialists - all the subtleties of the process of making arches.

In which rooms can an arch be made?

Door arches will decorate an interior made in any style, because there is a wide variety of them. First of all, they differ in the shape of the opening:

  • classic, representing a regular semicircle;
  • made in the style of "modern", elliptical configuration;
  • in the style of "romantic", which are complex combinations of rounded shapes and straight lines;
  • pointed upwards, made in gothic style etc.

Arches can be installed in almost all types of premises. The only exceptions are rooms intended for privacy, such as a bedroom, study or bathroom.

There are different opinions about installing an arch in the kitchen. cause discomfort: the spread of kitchen odors throughout the apartment, noise from the preparation of early breakfasts while the rest of the family are sleeping, etc. But, if there is a powerful hood and the kitchen does not go out into the living quarters, but, for example, into the corridor or dining room, it can be installed.

Materials (edit)

Exists a large number of materials from which you can make. Usually, drywall, plastic or wood is used for these purposes.

With the help of concrete or bricks, you can also design a doorway in an interesting and original way. But in order to make a brick arch with your own hands, you need skills in the construction business - a beginner cannot do this work. Also, this process is laborious and time-consuming, which not everyone can afford.

In the article we will look at how to make from drywall (gypsum plasterboard). This material is available and inexpensive, the technology for working with it does not provide for the use of special tools and will not be difficult even for a beginner.

How to make a drywall arch?

You can buy drywall arches, especially since there is a huge selection of them on sale. But it is difficult to find a product that perfectly matches the doorway, so try to make it yourself.

Despite the fact that the gypsum board makes it possible to construct structures of the most intricate configurations, we will dwell in detail on the simplest and most common option: interior arch semicircular shape.

The manufacturing process consists of the following stages:

  • preparation of tools and materials;
  • measurements and, if necessary, preparation of the doorway;
  • manufacturing of the front parts of the structure;
  • frame installation;
  • installation of an arch;
  • final work.

Let's consider each of the stages separately.

Materials (edit)

We need the following materials to make the arch:

  • drywall;
  • metal profiles for the construction of the frame;
  • fasteners;
  • perforated;
  • plasterboard putty.

When choosing drywall, pay attention to the fact that material will be needed for various sections of the structure. different thickness... For front surface it is better to choose sheets with a greater thickness in order to ensure the strength of the structure. For the bottom edge, it is better to get a thin gypsum board, which is easier to bend.

Select fasteners depending on the material of the walls in the room. For wooden walls purchase self-tapping screws. If the construction is planned for, it is better to choose dowels. They are also suitable for plaster and concrete walls.

Measurements and preparation of the doorway

Before measuring the doorway, you need to prepare it: dismantle the doors, slopes and platbands, if necessary, clean and level it inner surface using plastering on beacons or putty. Then, using a tape measure, determine the height and width of the opening.

Advice! Arches are not recommended if the height of the opening is less than 2 m, and the ceilings are below 2.5 m.Also keep in mind that the arch for the doorway will reduce its height by 10-15 cm.

Making the front parts of the arch

Let's consider how to make the front parts of the arch. These details must be drawn on a drywall sheet and cut out. When performing this work, pay attention to the fact that both parts must be exactly the same, and the semicircle of the arch must have the correct shape.

One of the popular and available ways markup like this:

  1. The width of the doorway must be divided in half - this way we get the radius of the semicircle.
  2. We mark a rectangle on a sheet of drywall: its width should correspond to the width of the doorway, and its height should correspond to half the width of the doorway + 10-15 cm.Example: if the width of the opening is 1 m, then the rectangle should be 60-65 cm high. Added 10- 15 cm is the distance from the top of the doorway to the top of the future arch. This distance is not recommended to be less than 10 cm.
  3. Now let's mark the vault of the future arch. On the lower side of the drawn rectangle, mark the middle and using various devices draw an even semicircle with a radius equal to half the width of the doorway (in our case, 50 cm). This can be done using a homemade compass, using a rope (thread) and a simple pencil (chalk).
  4. We cut out the resulting workpiece. To do this, you can use a clerical knife, a special knife for cutting drywall or a jigsaw.
  5. To make both parts exactly the same, the first is used in the markup of the second.

To mark a circle, it is not always convenient to use a homemade compass - often when using it, the lines are uneven and asymmetrical. If there is an assistant, use the following method, which will allow you to more accurately and evenly draw a circle. To mark the sheet in this way, a strip of flexible but resilient material is needed. You can use a piece of soft skirting board or a strip cut from a PVC panel for this purpose.

From the middle of the lower part of the marked rectangle, a straight line is drawn perpendicularly upward, the length of which is equal to the radius of the circle, and a point is marked there. After that, the flexible strip is applied to the sheet and bent so that it touches the marked point and the lower corners of the drawn rectangle. While one person holds the strip in place, the other draws around it.

For the end (lower) part of the arch, a narrow rectangular strip is marked and cut out, with a width equal to the thickness of the doorway. To determine the length of the strip, multiply the radius of the circle by the number π (3.14). In our case: 50 cm × 3.14 = 157 cm. It is better to cut the strip with a margin, since it is much easier to cut off the protruding extra centimeters than to cut it all over again if there are not enough of them.

Making a frame

To securely install the arch in the doorway, you need strong frame... Therefore, the next question that we will consider is how to make a frame for an arch. For its manufacture, we use a metal profile.

First, we install the upper parts. To do this, we cut out two guides along the width of the doorway and fix them in the upper part of the slope, parallel to each other. If the doorway is located in a gypsum, brick or concrete wall, then we use dowels to fix the frame elements. Wood screws are suitable for wooden walls.

We proceed to the installation of the side parts. We cut out 4 side parts from the metal profile and fix them in the upper part of the opening parallel to each other. Their length should correspond to the height of the plasterboard blanks. Since the workpieces are tapering downward, be sure to cut off the lower corners of the profile so that they do not protrude beyond the drywall.

Important! When securing the frame, make sure that the front and rear parts are parallel to each other - this will prevent subsequent distortions of the structure.

So that after fixing the plasterboard sheets and a layer of putty, the structure does not protrude from the wall, the frame elements are attached at a distance of 1.5-2 cm from the edge of the opening.

Installation

Installation of a gypsum plasterboard arch consists in fixing drywall blanks to the frame. First, using self-tapping screws for metal, the front parts are screwed on. The distance between adjacent fasteners should be no more than 15 cm. For a snug fit to the profile, the drywall sheets are pre-moistened with a damp cloth, and they begin to be fixed after they become flexible.

There are two main ways to attach the end (bottom) part of the arch. Most often, it is screwed with self-tapping screws with a press washer directly to the front plasterboard parts. Less often, a special frame is erected to fasten it in the lower part of the structure, but this method is best used if you plan to make an arch from fiberboard with your own hands.

Newbies often have difficulty trying to bend drywall parts. Therefore, let's dwell on the features of working with this material:

  • the sheet is moistened with a damp cloth;
  • pressing slightly, a needle roller is rolled over it;
  • the part is placed at an angle, leaning against the wall;
  • when the sheet acquires elasticity and bends under its own weight, it is given the necessary configuration.

Completion of work

After the elements of the arch are fixed, wait 10-12 hours until the drywall is completely dry. The final work on making the arch includes leveling its surface and decorating.

To protect the corners of the arch, align the circle and hide the defects made during manufacturing, you can attach a special perforated corner along the bottom edge.

The surface of the structure is primed, leveled with a putty and sanded sandpaper... A layer of putty should be sufficient to align the arch elements with the wall. It must be applied to the structure itself, as well as to the seams and joints.

Decorate a drywall arch different ways: pasted over with wallpaper, painted, finished with tiles or decorative stone, covered with decorative plaster.

Conclusion

Making an arch in an apartment with your own hands is simple. The same technology as described above is used for structures made of MDF, fiberboard or plastic.

The main thing is not to be afraid to take on a new field of activity, to put in efforts and imagination! And made by hand door arch will certainly become a decoration of the house!

Everyone can decorate this element of the interior with their own hands. The shape of the arched opening is practically not limited by anything, except for imagination, but quite often the owners of apartments during repairs are limited only to painting the plasterboard elements of the arch. Such designs look rather boring, a feeling of incompleteness is created. If the main style of the room is not minimalism, then the arch can be turned into a unique decorative element, emphasizing the integrity of the interior.

Possibilities of decorative arches

With the help of arches you can make small room more spacious, and in a large one, make effective zoning. This architectural element in the apartment performs several functions at once:

  1. Space saving and visual increase.
  2. Simultaneous functional separation of adjacent rooms and their visual unification.
  3. Creation of a certain atmosphere in the house, emphasizing its style.

Types of decorative arches

Most often, arches are made of drywall. Flexible and plastic drywall allows you to quickly create a structure of almost any shape with your own hands. The finished element has high aesthetic characteristics. A drywall arch can subsequently be faced with almost any material, including wood, stone (most good examples can be seen in the photo).

Arched openings can be conditionally divided into two types:

  1. Active - have complex shape, providing maximum visibility to neighboring rooms, can in themselves decorate the interior.
  2. Passive - simple in form, often act as a border.

Advice! It is advisable to determine the shape of the arch even before the repair, as well as its subsequent design.

Simple passive arches include:

  • Classic - with the correct arc radius. Optimal for any interior.
  • Ellipsoidal - the arc can be in the form of a regular or irregular oval.
  • Modern - an arc with a pronounced rise.
  • Romance - the arc is cut at the top, but rounded at the sides.
  • Portal - rectangular shape opening.

Complex active ones include:

  • Eastern.
  • Lancet.
  • Horseshoe.
  • Trapezoidal, etc.

Such arches can have uneven or curly edges, be located on several levels, and twist from one room to another.

Arch decor

An arch is, first of all, a part of the wall, respectively, when decorating it, one should start from the finishing of the latter. An architectural element must harmoniously fit into the interior, be a part of it. If there are several arches in the apartment, then they must correspond to the design of the room, be of a single shape or from the same materials.

Advice! The wider the arched opening, the more attention should be paid to its design, color and stylistic correspondence of adjacent rooms.

Finishing materials

Depending on the style of the room and the arch itself, you should select the material for its design.

Paint, wallpaper, decorative plastersimplest option design of an arched opening with your own hands. An element decorated with such materials practically does not stand out in the interior. The color of the coating on the walls and the interior of the arch may differ, if this does not contradict the style of the room.

Wood - noble, durable material. Most appropriate when decorating interiors in classic style... Looks perfect on designs of simple shapes.

Polyurethane stucco molding - with its help, you can do it yourself with your own hands to decorate an arch of any shape and style: from minimalism to baroque. The opening can be decorated with polyurethane columns, curly or flat moldings, all kinds of sockets, bas-reliefs - the material has practically no shape restrictions. Initially white elements can be painted in any color with acrylic paint.

Stone - natural or artificial. Due to the variety of textures and colors, it can be used to decorate arches different styles and forms.

Ceramics - tiles or mosaics can cover both the entire arch and its individual parts.

Glass - these can be blocks installed in the entire height of the opening, on different width, a ladder. This design of high-tech arches looks impressive. Often there is a design of arched openings using stained glass and colored glass, such elements are ideal for the Art Nouveau style.

Artificial stone arch decoration

Artificial stone is widely used in the decoration of arches. This material is durable and aesthetic, it can imitate any natural analogue, which can be seen in numerous photos in magazines and on the Internet. Natural stone, of course, can also be used for cladding, but the arch should be located in the opening of the load-bearing wall or monolithic partition. Drywall simply cannot withstand such a load, so it is better to use lightweight artificial materials for it. Besides a natural stone quite expensive.

Advice! For cladding drywall arches with your own hands, it is better to use light and flexible acrylic tiles. Its surface can imitate the texture of any stone and other materials.
