Do-it-yourself upholstered armchair made of wood. Do-it-yourself soft armchair

The production of which has a number of technological differences. The question arises - is it necessary to pay a lot of money for a finished product if you can make something similar with your own hands?

We will tell you about the process of making soft chairs, provide drawings, photographs and videos that will help you successfully cope with the task. There is also a list of necessary materials and tools.

First of all, you need to decide on the upholstery material. There are significant differences both in the cost of the upholstery and in its physical properties Oh. Let's consider the most popular options:

  • Velours. Velvety and fleecy fabric. Outwardly, it resembles faux fur.
  • Chenille. Natural material, "diluted" with synthetic fibers. Thanks to this, the surface does not roll, it is practical and durable.
  • Flock. The fabric vaguely resembles velor, but experts recommend using flock for the manufacture of child seats. The fabric is easy to clean and washable, has water-repellent and wear-resistant qualities, does not fade.
  • Jacquard. The fabric is easy to clean and is very durable, but the structure includes synthetic fibers. Therefore, loose loops can lead to puffs.
  • Artificial suede. The material is fleecy and durable, does not fade and can "breathe". Easy to clean is an added bonus.
  • Artificial leather. The material is characterized by high wear resistance. At the same time, the leather is distinguished by the presence of embossing.
  • Tapestry. This is a natural and very expensive fabric, which can be distinguished by the visible weaving. Multi-colored threads, interwoven into the overall structure, form beautiful patterns.

At the heart of the most primitive frame structures lies a plywood template. Therefore, you need sheets of birch plywood, screws, nails and standard set instruments:

  • protractor;
  • steel ruler;
  • compass;
  • table and hand vices;
  • scriber;
  • files;
  • hand scissors;
  • hammer;
  • hacksaw;
  • adjustable wrenches;
  • soldering iron;
  • pliers;
  • table anvil;
  • hand drill;
  • chisel;
  • sharpener;
  • punch;
  • kerner.

In the case of a bean bag chair, your toolbox will be significantly reduced. In addition, there are simplified technologies developed by folk craftsmen that allow you to assemble a soft chair quickly and with a minimum set of equipment.

How to make an armchair with your own hands?

Any work cannot be started without a clear plan of action. Decide on the design of the future piece of furniture. It is more difficult to create a frame chair, but it looks more respectable.

If you decide to sew a beanbag chair, get ready to master the patterns. Your actions will lie not so much in the field of furniture production as in the field of sewing art. In any case, you will need an approximate budget and an idea of \ u200b \ u200bthe consumption of materials. For example, a beanbag chair costs 1200-1300 rubles. This includes fabric for the outer (about 300-500) and inner (200-300) covers. Also, 500 rubles are pledged for the purchase of the filler.

Perhaps you already have an old "grandfather's" soft chair that has lost marketable condition? Then you can do it yourself and repair it, as shown in the following video:

Traditional soft product

An ordinary chair requires a solid approach and extensive preparatory phase... Consider the list of materials and tools required to make a plywood chair with upholstered upholstery:

  • 20mm plywood;
  • electric drill;
  • emery cloth;
  • screws;
  • jigsaw;
  • metal headbands;
  • thin nails;
  • foam rubber;
  • joiner's glue;
  • artificial leather;
  • stain;
  • black glossy paint;
  • pencil;
  • masking tape;
  • roulette.

Getting started:

  1. After downloading one of the drawings below, start large-scale work. Calculate the amount of materials and start making a template. First, cardboard templates are made, parts from plywood are cut out from them.
  2. The sides of the standard chair are banana-like. You will also need crossbars. Decide on the angles of inclination, bending and dimensions of the product.
  3. Surface wooden parts cleaned and polished. Special attention give the ends - soak them with heated linseed oil, flatten the fibers with a hammer (if bends are provided). Every detail of the frame is cut out with a jigsaw.
  4. The sides of the seats are painted or treated with wood stain. The ends of the sidewalls are reinforced with metal rims. After that, the wrapping process begins.
  5. The necessary holes are made with an electric drill. The rims are fixed with screws. First, the back of the back is finished with artificial leather, then the turn of other fragments of the chair comes.
  6. To secure the fabric, you need large-headed wallpaper nails. At the back, the upholstery is fixed along the transverse parts (along the very edge), in front it should cover the slats. It is better to process the attachment points with wood glue - this will increase the level of reliability.

Bag chair

The simplest version of the bag is the so-called. You cannot do without the following materials:

  • coarse calico or satin (about three meters);
  • a piece of fabric for the outer cover (about 3.5 meters);
  • lightning of a meter length;
  • filler;
  • fabric for applique;
  • scissors, pins and thread with needles.

Manufacturing:

  1. Copy the pattern you like from the Internet, scale it up and transfer it to the required details. For the upper and lower covers, the work will have to be done separately. The result of your efforts is a small top bottom, a large bottom and six fabric wedges.
  2. Sew the wedges and start sewing the bag. Small plot must be left unprocessed. In addition, both bottoms are sewn together. Having finished with the upper case, start sewing the lower one - the procedure will be the same.
  3. From the fabric you have chosen, you need to cut out the elements for the applique - they are adjusted on top of the cover. The zipper is sewn into one of the gussets - this will allow you to remove the cover and wash it if it gets dirty. Two-thirds of the volume of the inner cover is clogged with filler, which can be used as foam.
  4. Having tamped the inner cover with the filler, slide it into the outer cover, then close the zipper. The beanbag chair is completely ready for use.

Pay attention to the strength of the seams of the inner cover - they should not disperse under the influence of the weight of the seated person.

How to make a children's soft chair with your own hands will be discussed further.

Baby chair

Making a frameless toddler chair is as easy as making a regular beanbag chair. The difference lies solely in the size and color of this piece of furniture. Bright, cheerful tones are welcome, which do not irritate the eyes and set you up for a positive.

  • A soft frame armchair for a child with your own hands can be made in the form of a semicircular "sandwich" from wooden bars and chipboard. The front wall of this design is made of plywood, the back is made of hardboard. Inner space glue along the bend of the back is filled with glued pieces of cardboard.
  • After waiting for the wall to dry, trim the unevenness with a construction knife. A layer of foam rubber is neatly glued on top, on which the upholstery will subsequently lie. As an upholstery fabric, you can use eco-leather or flock - these options will allow your design to survive in the unequal struggle with felt-tip pens and paints.
  • Now about the dimensions. A standard adult chair has a height of one meter (some models reach 120 centimeters) with a diameter of the lower bottom 30 and the upper one - 15 centimeters. The height of the child seat must not exceed 60 centimeters (the diameters are 25 and 11 cm, respectively). Consider this nuance at the design stage of the pattern.

Material, fittings, tools for wireframe attribute

Building a frame chair from scratch presents some challenges. But the finished product will have a more respectable look. You can be convinced of this by looking at photos of finished products by home craftsmen. You can also use an old Soviet "grandmother's" chair for the base.

To make a simple frame for a soft chair, you need to pick up durable sheets of 20 mm plywood for cutting out parts with your own hands. A standard set of repair tools with an electric drill, jigsaw, steel ruler, emery cloth, metal rims, masking tape, pencil, tape measure, thin nails, screws, wood glue, wood stain, glossy paint will also come in handy. For upholstery you need: artificial leather or fabric, foam rubber (filler).

Step-by-step creation of upholstered furniture with a wooden base

  1. If you do not know how to make a drawing for the base, then look ready-made options circuits in the network. As a rule, they are transferred to a cardboard template with a pencil. Only after that the operations of the stated algorithm are started. This will help to save on unnecessary material, or vice versa - not to buy missing parts.
  2. The future constituent elements from plywood sheets are cut out according to the cardboard template:
  • banana-shaped sidewalls;
  • transverse strips.

It is important to determine the required angles of inclination, bending and dimensions of the future frame. This will help a photo of the finished chair, created according to your scheme.

  1. The next stage is the surface treatment of wooden parts by stripping and grinding. The ends are carefully worked out to improve the quality of the work done. Previously, these parts are impregnated with heated linseed oil and only then bends are formed with a hammer, if they are provided in the sketch. Each component is cut out with an electric jigsaw.
  2. The sidewalls are painted or treated with varnish-stain. The ends of the side parts are reinforced with metal rims.
  3. The further course of action is associated with covering the frame. Use an electric drill to make the necessary holes. The rims are fixed with screws.
  4. First, the back of the back is covered with artificial leather or fabric, then the remaining fragments of the structure, incl. and seats.
  5. The upholstery material is fixed with wallpaper nails, which are characterized by large caps. At the rear of the frame chair, the upholstery is fixed along the edge, along the transverse parts for better coverage of the slats.

Experienced furniture makers advise to additionally process the attachment points with wood glue. This move is needed to improve durability. created furniture do it yourself.

Secrets of reliable upholstery: how to sew

The process of stretching the upholstery of soft chairs has its own nuances:

  1. Foam rubber is cut to fit the seat (average thickness - 5 cm). The part is glued to the surface of the plywood sheet.
  2. Horizontal and vertical fabric straps secured to the back construction stapler... Similar straps are added to the armrests and sidewalls from the inside along the mold.
  3. A piece is cut from a piece of foam rubber 0.1 cm thick, which will be larger in size than the area of the seat (a difference of 4-5 cm). Take a flap of synthetic winterizer fabric of the same size with an elongated front part and fix it with your own hands.
  4. After the performed manipulations, the upholstery is covered with furniture fabric. With the help of a stapler, the textile is fixed in all corners of the cover, the synthetic foam layer to the frame of the seat of the chair.
  5. The sides and armrests are also covered with padding polyester, fixing with aerosol glue over the entire surface. Only after that, the parts are sheathed with fabric, fixing the flap along the staples.

Sometimes old unnecessary things can be turned into a worthy and functional decoration for a summer residence. In today's review, we will focus on old chairs, from which, with a little imagination, you can make really interesting decorative, and in some cases functional items: garden flower stands, coat hangers, shelves, swings, benches, etc. Below are examples of what can be made from unnecessary chairs. Let's get started ...

1. Hanger.

Necessary thing in everyday life - a hanger, it can be in the form of a coat hanger or wall. Option with wall hanger easy to implement, for this you just need to remove the back from the chair, tie a string on its upper part, drive a carnation into the wall and hang this structure on it.

A coat hanger, in general, is also not difficult to make, for this you need to stock up on curved hooks, the size of the crossbar in the closet and the backs of unnecessary chairs. With a thin drill in the upper part of the back of the chair, you need to create a hole in which to insert the pre-prepared hooks, covered at the base with a generous layer of glue.

2. Swing.

Great idea for making a swing seat. It is necessary to take a seat with a back from an unnecessary chair, nail down two cross-beams from below, drill holes along the edges of which to thread the ropes. Fix the finished rocker on a sturdy tree. Children will be delighted, especially if the seat is painted in some bright shade.

3. Armchair from an old tree stump.

There is an old, hard-hitting tree stump in the garden, so why not make an outwardly attractive chair out of it. To do this, take the seat of a chair and glue or nail it to the top of the stump. The seat can be painted in a bright shade or decorated using decoupage technique.

4. Rocking chair.

Many people dream of a rocking chair, but it can be made from an unnecessary chair. To do this, you need to order semicircular beams from the carpenter or remove several planks from wooden barrel, and secure a chair on them.

5. Bed for a pet.

Below you can see how loving owners delight their beloved pets. To make such a bed, it is necessary to prepare a box in which to put a foam mattress, make the headboard from the back of the chair, and the foot from the legs of the chair.

6. Shop or bench.

On three chairs without seats installed in a row, you can put a board upholstered with a pleasant-to-touch material with a foam layer. Various options makeshift benches can be explored in the photo below.

7. Stand for a bowl of a large dog.

Pet large sizes You can feed from a bowl attached to the seat of the chair, for this we simply cut out a circle in the seat of the chair with a jigsaw to the size of the bottom of the bowl. Thus, the dog will not be able to throw over a bowl of food or water.

8. Shelf.

From the back of the chair, as well as part of the seat, you will get an excellent shelf for small things, the options for such shelves can be explored in the photos below.

9. Sleds.

And here is another great idea on the topic of "what you can do from old chairs with your own hands" - a sled. Highly interesting idea, but requires design, the location of every detail must be carefully thought out so that in the end the sled is safe in operation.

10. Flower stand.

The most demanded idea of using old chairs is a garden flower stand. For the manufacture of such decorative element it is necessary to cut a hole in the seat of the chair to the size of the future pot installed in it. The photo below shows the process of making such a stylish garden flower stand.

More examples of flower stands:

11. Box for storing magazines and newspapers.

From the legs of the chairs, you can put together an excellent box for storing correspondence - newspapers, magazines, letters.

Also, the box can be made of flat boards, and fixed between the legs of the chair at an angle, as in the photo below.

12. Bright chairs.

This point implies the restoration of an old chair, or rather sanding it, and then painting it in a bright acid shade, as a result, the chair turns out to be so fashionable that it is simply impossible to guess about its previous deplorable state.

Flower stand from an old chair:

After this review, the question of what can be done from the old chair should stop bothering you, all that remains is to choose a suitable idea and start implementing it. It would seem that - old chair, well, what can be done out of it, someone might say “throw it away and forget it,” but in the country, the ideas presented above will be very relevant, so if you have such retro items in your house, do not rush to dispose of them, at present, this the nostalgic direction is in great demand.

  • Frameless.

Intraspecific differences furniture vary based on the choice of forms and the mechanism of transformation.

Traditional materials of execution make it a reliable help for many years.

It is more difficult to make a wireframe model. Furniture with a rigid base is complemented by a layout mechanism, which must be done correctly so that the "insert" can be easily removed and straightened without distortions. A structure with two folding legs is easier to make than with four.

Can be matched as wooden base supports, and metal.

It is necessary to determine one or another suitable design not only based on the complexity of creation, but also on its style, safety and convenience for rest. For a folding chair you can choose suchlike chipboard, plywood, the cloth a certain density, foam rubber for upholstery, if a frame option is assumed.

This furniture is compact and ergonomic, much smaller in size. standard bed, but is not inferior to her in terms of comfort of rest.

A product without a rigid base can have a streamlined shape, moreover, it is lighter in weight.

Whichever structures you choose, they must be durable and safe.

Do not forget about convenience - the body should be comfortable during sleep or daytime rest.Remember that the base must be wide enough - at least 60 cm, otherwise the sleeper will not turn around on the bed.

Today there are many varieties of this furniture. All of them find their place in the interior of the apartment.

Necessary materials

To make a wireframe model, you will need the following:

  • Chipboard;
  • Fiberboard;
  • Wooden bars;
  • Plywood;
  • Foam rubber;
  • Self-tapping screws;
  • Hinges;
  • PVA glue;
  • Sandpaper;
  • Upholstery fabric.

We will make a simple but comfortable thing in everyday life that will be strong and reliable to withstand any unexpected guest.

In creating a structure others can be applied... For upholstery, it is better to choose a special the cloth which is dense and easy to clean.

For frameless furniture are used:

  • Cover fabric;
  • Foam rubber;
  • Strong threads.

High-quality foam rubber will be needed for upholstery.

Required tools

To the conceived subject furniture done correctly and firmly, you will need:

  • Long ruler or tape measure;
  • Simple pencil;
  • Staples and construction stapler;
  • Scissors;
  • Hacksaw;
  • Screwdriver;
  • A sewing machine (for making a frameless chair).

Tools for work.

If in the design decor is provided (for example, in the form of applications), then a stencil cut from a dense file folder will come in handy.

Manufacturing process: step by step instructions

Before starting work, it is imperative to complete a drawing of the product, where the exact dimensions will be indicated and parts of the model are drawn in detail.

Product drawing.

For the manufacture of folding chair frame type, you will need a lot of space. Choose a spacious room.

First, we make the corpus:

Then we start creating the folding part. Make 2 beams along the width and length of the seat. Attach sheets of plywood to them.

Connect the frames with long loops.

To make the chair unfold evenly, use a metal transformation mechanism - attach steel contours with through hinges on the sides.

The main thing in business is how to make a chair bed yourself, so that the parts put together make up a beautiful and even square.

Such a nice armchair the bed, which we made with our own hands, can be painted, varnished or upholstered with foam rubber and stylish beautiful fabric.

The next step will be cladding:

  1. Glue the cut-to-size pieces of foam rubber 2-3 cm high to the top of the frame.
  2. Lay the fabric evenly and use a stapler to attach it to the bars at the bottom.
  3. The sides can also be upholstered using a thin layer of foam rubber.

For a folding structure, you need legs.

They are made in the middle and front of the frame, flush with the bottom point of the bottom or slightly above. For armrests, use stripped sandpaper wide bars.

The seat easily unfolds without clinging to the sidewalls, and just as quickly turns into a chair.

A frameless model is much easier to manufacture. She needs foam rubber, which can be used in 2-3 layers, and a dense fabric like "raincoat fabric" (or less slippery). The cut material is sewn on several sides. the remaining opening is intended to be placed inside the foam rubber.

In order to prepare the chair-bed for sleeping, you should unfasten the straps, then pull the top pillow towards you.

Equip the unsewn section with a "zipper". For more practical use frameless sample, make an outer cover.

Since it does not have a rigid base, the back should be placed against the wall

Chair-bed decoration

In order to give finished product stylish and original view, use your imagination.

The design of the created item can be improved by using interesting prints and appliqués.

From the fabrics used for decoration, tapestries look good. If you want to make the upholstery softer to the touch, choosewith a pile like artificial velvet.

Such material, moreover, is stronger and more durable.

It is better to sew appliques before the upholstery process. To keep them neat, prepare stencils and shreds in advance. different color matched to or contrasting with the main range.

In a frame-type folding chair, the front legs, which are not retracted in all models, can be made carved or metal.

To prevent the surface from dusting and rubbing, use a cape or sew a special cover. Carpet of the appropriate size and faux fur will do as well - this will make the seating in the chair more comfortable and cozy. Another option is to sew replaceable covers from lightweight canvas.

This will make it easier to care for the upholstery.

VIDEO: Do-it-yourself armchair bed.

Frameless furniture on Russian markets appeared quite recently. But thanks to its many benefits, it quickly became popular. But the price for such a novelty is often too high.

In the meantime, making a soft chair with your own hands is not difficult at all. This kind of work will not take much of your time. And to sewing and decorating like original decoration your room can attract children.

Preparatory stages

Before you start doing, prepare detailed drawing... If you do not carefully calculate all the required dimensions, then you may get a completely different result than you expected.

The easiest way is to make a soft chair in the shape of a pear or an ordinary bag.

Figure 1. An example of a drawing of a simple chair.

But you can give it the shape of a pyramid or, for example, a cube. Often, ottomans are made for children's rooms in the form of a drop or a funny animal, for example, a dragon.

An example of a drawing of a chair of a fairly simple form is shown in Fig. 1. Naturally, you can change the dimensions given in it at your own will.

Next, you should choose the fabric. You will need two types of matter. For the inner cover, get a thick enough fabric with a tight weave. Otherwise, the filler balls may come out of the bag over time. For this purpose, satin, coarse coarse calico, fabric designed for sewing naperniks are well suited.

But the outer cover can be sewn from any material. Denim, artificial leather, fur or velor furniture will look good in any interior. The color of the material depends only on your taste, preferences and appearance rooms.

In order to, you need to buy a special filler. Usually frameless furniture is stuffed with expanded polystyrene. It can be purchased at stores that sell furniture repair products.

Be careful when purchasing this product remotely (for example, from a catalog or via the Internet). This filler is very light and bulky. To transport 10 kg of "balls" you will need a cargo gazelle, because in a regular a car it won't fit. When buying a filler, pay attention not to the weight, but to the volume of the package. To sew an upholstered chair, you need a bag with a volume of 200-250 liters.

If desired, expanded polystyrene can be replaced foam crumbs... It can be obtained if crumbled, for example, decorative tiles used for ceiling decoration.

Some experts advise stuffing frameless furniture with hay or buckwheat husks. But using natural materials, remember that they should be changed approximately once every 5-6 months. Vegetable fillers absorb moisture well, which can lead to mold growth. In addition, such materials are quickly compressed, and the upholstered chair will lose its volume and elasticity.

Sewing a frameless option

In order to make an armchair of the dimensions indicated in the drawing, you will need the following materials:

  • fabric for the inner cover (with a width of 150 cm) - 3 m;
  • fabric for the outer cover (with a width of 150 cm) - 3 m;
  • zipper, 22 cm long;
  • sewing thread;
  • materials for decoration (edging, braid, ribbons, inlays).

Start by cutting out all the necessary parts. Don't forget to leave seam allowances! They should be 1.5-3 cm.

First, you need to prepare templates for all elements of the upholstered chair. They are usually made of paper or plastic film(if you want to make patterns designed for reusable). When creating patterns, allowances do not need to be taken into account.

The finished piece is placed on the seamy side of the fabric and traced around the office with chalk or a piece of soap. The patterns leave a space equal to the allowances between the details. If you provide the same allowances for all parts, then the elements do not need to be marked separately. It is enough to fold the fabric in several layers and circle the pattern once.

Sewing should start with making the inner cover. "Petals" are sewn to the bottom in turn. Then the sidewalls of the long pieces are sewn together. In one seam, a hole must be left for stuffing. The top part is sewn last.

Next, a cover is made. It is done in the same way, only a zipper is inserted into one of the seams. To do this, the seam is sewn from below, to a length of 3-5 cm. Then a pass is made equal to the length of the zipper, and it is sewn to the end. The parts sewn in this way are turned inside out on front side, and the fastener allowances are folded and ironed. The zipper is placed under the workpiece from the wrong side and pinned to the seam allowances with pins. First, a line is laid on one side, trying to position it as close to the teeth as possible (usually special paws are used for this sewing machines), then on the other. Finish the zipper with double seams at the beginning and end of the zipper.

Additional decor will make the chair a unique detail of your room. It can be decorated with embroidery, appliqués, decorative braid. This finish only depends on your personal taste.
