This creates a wall of water, and its speed of movement is always uniform. The second level provides better cleaning air masses from particles of dyes (internal cleaning). Here there is a complete release from impurities. The third level is the completion of the purification process, which can be achieved through charcoal filters or other types of dry filtration. At this stage, all paint particles disappear. Therefore, the fan will be protected from colorant residues.

Making a painting chamber

Having made the layout, it is necessary to carry out everything technical calculations, and start installation work.
First of all, a new room is built or a frame is assembled inside the garage. Overall dimensions should be: length 10 meters, width 8 meters, height 3.5 meters. The spray booth is respectively 4 meters wide and 6 meters long.

    1. Gate installation.
      It is best to use a gate that is insulated, so that there is no suction and loss of warm air, the outside is sheathed with corrugated board. At the point of contact of the gate, it is insulated with a special adhesive tape. Places with cracks must be covered with polyurethane foam.
    2. Floor construction. The base of the floor is made of concrete, inside of which a hole is made, and a metal pipe with a diameter of 150 mm is brought out to the street for air outflow. A metal grate is laid on the floor over the entire surface of the room to a height of 15-20 cm.
    3. Walls. The walls are sheathed with corrugated board, and inside they are insulated, you can make a sandwich panel.
    4. Air exchange system. Components: two electric motors and metal pipes diameters of 100 mm and 150 mm, respectively. For supply ventilation an electric motor with a power of 5 kW is used, for an exhaust one at least 7 kW.
    5. Ceiling. It is made of corrugated board, with insulation. Mounted in the ceiling metal carcass for air flow. Electric heater that will supply warm air into the room, installed on the street.

  1. Air cleaning. It is carried out with the help of filters and has three levels of cleaning.
    • Level 1. A frontal water curtain is created, which is carried out by flowing down uniform streams of water;

    • Level 3. Dry filtration. Contributes to the complete cleaning of air from paint particles and performs the function of protecting the fan from paint adhesion.
  2. Lighting. LED or fluorescent lamps are mounted on the ceiling and walls of the room.

How the work is done

The electric air heater pumps air from the atmosphere into the closed space of the room. Passing through the system, the air is purified by filters, each of which provides a certain purification.

The principle of operation of water cabins:

Water by its nature cleans the air well from paint fractions, but special additives are added to the water to improve the properties. At the same time, it should have dry filters operating in parallel. Water takes only fractions of paint, but dry filters are no less important for the system, which purify the air before entering the exhaust fan.

How the water curtain works

A water curtain is usually understood as a hydrofilter that cleans air flows from paint and harmful impurities. Divide cascading. nozzle and nozzleless filters. The difference lies in the way the water flow is supplied for cleaning. When using a cascade filter, the curtain is compensated by the shield; in the nozzle filters, the curtain is created by the nozzles. Vortex hydrofilters are used for active mixing of air with water.

Requirements

There is only one requirement - the system must cope with the waste streams, respectively, it all depends on the intensity with which the spray booth works. If the load is large, then for better fog capturing, an active water pan can be installed, which is a bathtub covered with a grate. The presence of nozzle filters obliges you to choose between screw or tangential nozzles:

  1. The presence of screw nozzles gives a more stable and stable water torch when it collides with air. But such systems are difficult to design.
  2. It is easier to make tangential nozzles, which have a less stable flame, but they are less likely to clog.
  3. The angle of the cone of the water jet should be in the range from 70 to 75 degrees, and the spacing of the nozzles will be determined from the angle.

Water consumption is also regulated by the camera owner. It depends on how fast the water will pass across the screen or shields, as well as on the number of curtains. In such systems, the water circulation is almost always closed, that is, for a certain time the same volume of water works in the system.

For high-quality separation of paint particles from water, followed by their removal, it is recommended to add impurities to the water. They convert paint residues into sludge that settles over time. Anti-foaming agents should also be added, otherwise the water may start to foam.

Advantages and disadvantages

Painting chambers with a water curtain - this is perhaps the most advanced version of the design of systems for painting. Equipment of this type is used to paint large-sized items, including car bodies, or individual body parts, various furniture structures etc.

Any spray booth is based on the fact that air moves inside the system, which carries away the fog from the paint, which evenly settles on the surface to be painted. And if in a traditional spray booth there is a possibility that harmful substances or paint particles will go outside the booth, then in chambers with a water curtain, paint particles are retained by water. Moreover, molecules of harmful volatile substances, which are in excess inside the spray booth, are bound by water molecules.

In addition, there are cameras that operate on a partially closed cycle of air movement. In this situation, it turns out that the air that has already been in the chamber enters it in the next cycle. And if it is not enough to clean it before reuse, paint particles will enter the chamber along with the air, which have already begun to polymerize. And this can significantly affect the final quality of the coating. And the water curtain that may have different design, retains paint residues.

How do water curtain spray booths work?

A spray booth with water protection is very similar in principle to traditional spray booths. Air is drawn from the atmosphere into the confined space of the chamber. Air is drawn in by the fan. Air enters through a system of filters, each of which provides a certain level of purification. The smaller the holes in the filter material, the finer the cleaning is.

There are vents at the bottom of the spray booth. Moreover, they can be located in different places of the camera (depending on the hole). Essentially, the air mixed with the paint that exits the chamber is passed through a thin wall of water. And all suspended particles remain in this water.

The water curtain can be thought of as a water filter. Although there are options when the air does not pass through the wall of water, but through special container with water. In this case, solid particles gradually accumulate at the bottom of the container, which then fall out in a state of sediment to the bottom of the container.

In order to activate the process of binding harmful substances in the air by water, a special reagent is added to the container, which is a catalyst for chemical reaction cleaning.

Most advanced water curtain spray booths support multiple levels of air purification. The first level is when air passes through the frontal curtain of water. The flow of water is a solid wall, and the speed of movement of the water is the same all the time. The water covers the entire surface of the front part of the curtain.

At the second level, there is a finer purification of air from paint particles. This is the so-called internal cleaning level. According to experts, it is at this stage that the most complete air purification from paint impurities occurs.

The finest cleaning takes place on finishing filters, which can be made on the basis of hydrocarbon technologies ( carbon filters) or dry filters, which are made on a different basis.
