Roller blinds for floor-to-ceiling windows. Roller blinds in the interior - all about construction, control, light transmission and design

Roller blinds gained great popularity after the appearance of plastic windows, which replaced wooden frames... The massive distribution of roller blinds is due to the fact that they are quickly installed, do not require special care, but at the same time they look stylish and fit almost any interior. This kind curtains combine decorativeness and functionality, therefore they are mounted above the balcony sections and stained-glass windows, which cannot always be closed with bulky and heavy curtains and curtains.

Another advantage of roller blinds is their installation, which is carried out without violating the integrity. metal-plastic construction... Special mounts make it possible to do without the use of a drill and drilling through holes. Roller blinds can be installed independently without the help of specialists.

What are roller blinds

Manufacturers produce several types of roller blinds for plastic windows that can be installed without drilling additional holes. Let's take a closer look at each model.

They differ in availability and low cost. The roller on which the woven fabric is wound remains open. At the bottom of the canvas there is a plastic weighting agent, due to which the curtain drops down, filling the window frame with itself. Roller blinds "mini" are suitable for window structures of any complexity, they do not take up much space and are easy to clean.

They look a little differently: the rotating shaft is located under the decorative box. Collapsed similar model almost invisible. In addition, the sun's rays do not fall on the woven material under the box, which prevents the fabric from burning out. The shade and design of the box are selected based on the wishes of the customer.

This is a combined model that is mounted on each individual sash, which allows them to be opened and closed without hindrance. The box, under which the curtain is rolled up, is located in the upper part of the sash. Mini cassette curtains are of two types:

  • Curtain model UNI 1 is suitable for wide glazing beads (narrow long strip made of wood or plastic, which serves to reinforce the glass in the window frame). The guides are fastened to the inside of the glazing beads. UNI 1 fit snugly and practically in contact with the glass.
  • The UNI 2 curtain model has a similar design, but the main difference is that the guides are attached to the outer part of the glazing bead. There is a box at the top of the casement.

Important! Domestic manufacturers of roller blinds produce high quality products that are in no way inferior to their foreign counterparts.

What to look for when buying roller blinds

Roller blinds are single and double. The second option includes a model called "day-night". An unusual canvas, consisting of transparent and dense sections, allows you to achieve the desired degree of illumination of the room. The curtain becomes daylight and lets in a large number of sunlight when composed of alternating stripes. To make the curtain at night and create twilight in the room even in clear sunny weather, it is enough to raise or lower one of the canvases. The play of light is possible due to small gaps through which light from the street barely passes. The color of dense sections of the canvas is selected taking into account the wishes of the customer. Transparent stripes work best with whites.

Roller blinds differ from each other in the degree of protection against ultraviolet rays... Roller blinds made of transparent materials do not interfere with the ingress of natural light; rather, they serve as a decorative function. Transparent curtains are suitable for apartments and houses with a picturesque view of the city park, sea, mountains, etc.

Translucent roller blinds are installed on north-facing windows. Sunlight becomes less bright and intense and more comfortable for the human eye.

In the manufacture of curtains that do not transmit ultraviolet light, dense materials are used that can not only create pitch darkness in the daytime, but also isolate the room from extraneous sounds coming from the street. This is ideal for a bedroom on the sunny side. With such impenetrable curtains, you won't have to wake up with the first rays of the sun.

To achieve almost one hundred percent opacity of roller blinds, the Blackout material, consisting of polyester fibers with double satin weaves, allows. It blocks out bright ultraviolet rays and cold, and is also resistant to dirt and fire.

Today manufacturers produce roller blinds equipped with an electric drive. Automatic system control allows you to wind the web on the shaft using a remote control. From now on, the degree of light intensity can be adjusted without leaving the sofa.

Installation of roller blinds on PVC windows without drilling the structure

Each model of roller blinds has its own installation nuances. The similarity lies in the fact that "mini" roller blinds, cassette curtains and mini-cassette curtains are mounted without the use of a drill or other power tools.

At the first stage, all components for the roller blind are prepared. For greater convenience, lay them out on a horizontal surface so as not to lose small details.

The shaft with the curtain is held on the sash by means of plastic brackets. Semicircular parts have recesses and protruding parts that are connected to each other.

Important! Ready-made roller blinds are only suitable for standard windows... For window openings curtains of unusual shape are made according to individual orders.

Installation of a mini roller blind on an opening window sash

For a roller blind designed for an opening window sash, you will need a shaft, a canvas, a lifting mechanism that works due to the movement of a chain, clamps for fixing and double-sided adhesive tape.

  1. Adhesive tape is glued to the brackets so that they are attached to the window sash not only due to their curved shape. This ensures the reliability and stability of the roller blinds design. The adhesive tape should only be glued to a degreased and dry surface. Degreasing allows you to clean the plastic from grease films and other contaminants that prevent the tight connection of parts.

  2. Next, the brackets are attached to the holders. The latter have protruding spikes and grooves. The connection of the parts is carried out using an additional fastener.

  3. A lifting mechanism with a chain and holders with brackets are installed on the shaft.

  4. The next step is the alignment of the roller blind. The structure is hooked onto the top of the sash using brackets. This allows you to correctly hang the shaft with the curtain on the window.

  5. With a simple pencil, the exact location of the brackets is indicated. The delineated borders will allow the brackets with double-sided tape to be glued to the frame evenly and as tightly as possible.

  6. The window sash, on which the roller blind will be located, is degreased with medical alcohol. It is undesirable to apply acetone and other aggressive substances on PVC surfaces. As a result chemical reaction material may turn yellow. The degreased surface is thoroughly dried.

  7. The protective film is removed from the adhesive tape located on the bracket. The brackets themselves are hooked onto the top of the sash and pressed tightly.

  8. The clamps that the brackets are equipped with snap into place until they stop.

  9. We do the same with the second bracket, located at the opposite end of the window frame.

    Snap the clamp of the second bracket

  10. The roller blinds lifting mechanism is installed on the part of the bracket that has a spike with a gear.

  11. The shaft with the blade is inserted between the fixed brackets. Plastic is a rather fragile material, so you should proceed with the utmost care.

  12. The last step is to check how the roller blind is raised and lowered. The canvas completely covers the glass and rolls up due to the rotation of the shaft. The shaft begins to move with a chain.

We install the mini roller blind on a blind window sash

Installation of a blind sash is carried out without hook brackets. For installation, you need side brackets with a gear.

  1. Before installing roller blinds on plastic windows, double-sided adhesive tape is glued to the grooved plates. The plastic surface of the parts is pre-degreased using medical alcohol.

  2. The protective film is removed from the tape, the side brackets are connected to the plates.

  3. The photo shows how the parts of the roller blind, put together, look like.

  4. The lifting mechanism is mounted on a gear, and the side brackets are inserted into the shaft.

  5. The assembled roller blind is applied to the sash and, using a simple pencil, mark how the structure will finally be located. The brackets are held in place only by adhesive tape.

  6. The junction of the window surface and the plates with the holders is carefully prepared. To do this, it is enough to treat the plastic with alcohol.

  7. The protective film is removed from the tape, the brackets are tightly applied to the window frame.

  8. At the end, a lifting chain mechanism is installed on the shaft with the blade. The chain is put on from the side on which the gear is located. Further, the roller blind is rolled up and unfolded several times in order to check the serviceability of the structure.

Important! A roller blind is much easier to care for than a blind. Dirt and dust accumulate on vertical or horizontal plates and are difficult to remove. Roller blinds can be cleaned with detergent and periodically wiped with a piece of soft cloth.

Detailed instructions for installing cassette roller blinds

This model differs from others in the presence of guides. Many manufacturers have simplified the installation of cassette roller blinds by pre-applying double-sided adhesive tape to the parts. When installing a roller blind, all that remains is to remove the protective film. These models are already practically assembled, and the canvas itself is under the box.

  1. The cassette roller blind box is attached to the top of the window frame. The surface of the glass unit is pre-degreased. Using a simple pencil, you need to make a markup. The finest pencil lines will allow you to hang the box with the canvas in the center. In no case should you hang a box with a curtain without preliminary fitting: there is a risk that the curtain will not fall into the guides located on both sides.

  2. The protective film is removed from the double-sided tape glued to the box. The entire structure should be firmly pressed against the top of the window surface.

  3. The method of gluing the guides is determined by the type of roller blind. Some are installed from the outside of the glazing bead, others from the inside. The ones for the inner side are tightly pressed against the glass. The photo shows the installation of curtains with guides running from the outside.
  4. The guides with adhesive tape are first applied to the box. If there is no double-sided adhesive tape, then it is applied independently after preliminary degreasing of the surfaces. It is necessary to treat the side in contact with the sash with alcohol.
  5. Next, 3-4 centimeters of the protective film is removed from the adhesive tape.

  6. The curtain guide is mounted in a box and connected to a glass unit.

  7. Hold the guide with one hand and remove the remaining protective film with the other hand.

  8. After the tape is cleared of the film, the guide is firmly pressed against the glazing bead. We do the same with the second guide.

  9. A roller blind is placed in the fixed guides. A ring is put on the lifting mechanism to fix the chain. It will prevent slipping on the gear.

  10. At the end, the roller blind is opened and closed in order to check the serviceability of the mechanism and the correct installation of all parts and accessories.

Installing cassette roller blinds on plastic windows is easier than other models without drilling. The main thing is to act very carefully and carefully. Correctly made markings are a guarantee of the correct installation of the box with the curtain and guides. No special tools are required for the installation of the structure; the whole process will take no more than fifteen minutes.

Plastic windows have long ceased to be an attribute of office interiors. Today they are used both in the old Khrushchev and Stalinist buildings, and modern new buildings... But so that such glazing does not introduce dissonance into the atmosphere of home comfort, you need to be able to choose the right curtains for plastic windows that are suitable for a living room.

What tricks the designers do not use to make the plastic windows look cozy at home: they put the usual vents, add bindings. But if the windows in your apartment still resemble office windows, curtains will help fix the situation. Regular floor-length curtains and tulle curtains on high eaves do not harmonize with such glazing. Here we need suitable curtains for plastic windows that will not violate the laws of aesthetics.

To decorate your plastic windows according to the latest design, you should pay attention to the following types of curtains:

  • Corrugated curtains- also known as “Pleated blinds”. The anti-static fabric gathers like an accordion when you need to roll up the curtain and let the sunlight into the room. Depending on the design, the window can be slightly opened both from the bottom and from the top.
  • Roman curtains- in unfolded form, they are a straight piece of fabric, but when you need to open the window glass, they, starting from the bottom edge, gather into beautiful horizontal deep folds. It is quite possible to sew such a design yourself with your own hands.
  • Roller blinds- perfect for both living rooms, and for the kitchen or balcony. They are made of fabric, and fastening is done with Velcro or brackets.

There are open and closed types of roller blinds. Open ones are fabric twisted into a dense roller, which is placed directly above the window. Closed when rolled up, they hide in a special cassette and are practically invisible.

Types of sun blinds on plastic windows

For owners of apartments with windows facing the south side, the actual issue is the choice of curtains, employees reliable protection from getting into the room of sunlight on hot summer days. Increased requirements are imposed on such products.

There is a special type of "blackout" roller blinds, which does not allow light to pass through.

In particular, they should be:

  • Made of high quality fabric that will not fade in the sun;
  • Reflect the sun's rays to protect the apartment not only from bright light, but also from the heat in sultry weather.

To this end, those who prefer roller blinds need to choose a product made of heat-resistant and opaque blackout material. This fabric ensures a comfortable sleep even in the conditions of white nights, as it is able to block the sun's rays by up to 100%.

A popular option for plastic windows is day / night sun shades, also known as zebra. They are easily recognizable by their distinctive feature - an unusual design in which transparent horizontal stripes alternate with opaque lamellas. Due to this, it is possible to adjust the level of penetration of bright sunlight into the room, up to the complete shading of the room.

Blinds are effective in combating the bright scorching sun. Blinds with wooden slats or horizontal fabric stripes will fit well into a home interior.

The original appearance of plastic windows will be given by multi-textured blinds with vertical slats... Combinations of wood, fabric, plastic, metal allow you to create unique compositions that will become a unique highlight of the interior. Such products are often supplemented with lambrequins.

Features of fastening for curtains on plastic windows

Curtains for plastic windows do not have the usual hooks or loops, they do not use eyelets. Therefore, such curtains cannot be hung on ordinary cornices and not threaded into baguettes. To mount roller blinds or blinds, it will be necessary to mount the structure directly on the plastic profile.

There are different installation methods.

For curtains on the fixing window, you can use:

  • Latches;
  • Self-tapping screws;
  • Brackets;
  • Liquid Nails;
  • Double sided tape.

Each method has both its own tangible advantages and some disadvantages. Self-tapping screws and brackets, if used carelessly, will break the tightness of a plastic window, but they hold a heavy structure well. It is recommended to fasten light curtains with Velcro. Having used liquid nails for installation, it will be difficult in the future to replace the old curtains with new ones. The latches are not suitable for all types of structures, but they cling directly to the window sash and it is easy to replace open-type roller blinds with them.

How to attach curtains to plastic windows with your own hands

The most popular type of fastening of common roller blinds, suitable for a plastic window, is fixing directly to the window. To avoid drilling unnecessary holes in the profile, it is recommended to use removable latches that can be attached directly to the sash.

For this:

  1. It is necessary to first degrease the joints of the plastic and the latch.
  2. Cut suitable size double-sided tape, which for reliability will hold the latch and the window sash together.
  3. Fasten the holders of the movable shaft to the installed latches.
  4. Install a shaft with a curtain between them.
  5. Attach a spike with a gear for the chain mechanism to the shaft.

The layers are superimposed on each other when twisted and untwisted. Moreover, you can easily adjust the level of the incoming light by shifting the transparent and dark stripes. Thus, you can both completely exclude light from entering the room, and superimpose the stripes on top of each other, creating the appearance of a light tulle. The fabric itself can be easily wound onto the roller, which is located on top of the frame and easily unwound. Dimensions (edit)

The simplest in design and compact in size are mini-blinds, which are fixed to the frame not using self-tapping screws, but directly to the window sash. They can be either open or closed in design, and some use them in conjunction with curtains. The standard size of models is 50 cm, but there are also models with a width of 30 to 150 cm. Their length can also vary, as a rule, it is 150 cm, but there are also longer options.

Before you hang the blinds you need to decide on their size... To do this, you need to measure the width and height of the window opening, as well as the window sashes. You should also consider the distance between glasses and handles. For large windows, wide blinds are suitable, and in this case you can hang one canvas or several at once on one window on each sash. Thus, you can hang a large model, which is about 2 m long, or you can hang three or two small blinds, depending on the number of doors. As a rule, for small windows with one frame, standard blinds are purchased with a width of about 80 cm and a height of 150 cm. The specific size will also depend on the type of construction, so this should be taken into account.

How to choose?

Roller blinds can be hung in any room in the house that has windows:

  • For kitchen it is better to select roller blinds made of durable materials that do not absorb excess odors and grease. In addition, perforated blinds are also suitable, they will allow you to easily ventilate the room at any time. As for the design of such products for the kitchen, it is better to purchase unusual models decorated with flowers, leaves or images of fruits.

In case you have a calmer kitchen design, then models with a discreet abstract pattern, which will repeat the design of the kitchen headset, are also suitable.

  • In case you choose roller blinds for living room, you should purchase lighter models, as dark curtains can make this room very gloomy and dimly lit, thereby visually narrowing it.
  • Dark blinds are best for for office space, as well as for offices. They will make an ordinary room boring.

  • For children's room it is best to purchase models made of dense materials, since they are able to close the room as much as possible from light. These curtains will not prevent your baby from watching cartoons or sleeping in the morning or evening. Ideal option for the nursery will be easy to manage automatic curtains... Your little one can adjust the level of their rise and the intensity of light by himself. Can be picked up as bright and unusual curtains, decorated with images of animals and cartoon characters, as well as quieter options that will be very versatile and suitable even if you decide to make repairs.

The blinds, neutral in design, will not bore your baby and will be relevant for a long time.

  • For bedrooms it is also better to purchase light blinds that will perfectly protect from incident light, but will not darken the room too much. Beige, peach, pale pink, blue, mint tones are a great option for bright bedrooms. You can also purchase unusual pleated roller blinds or models called "curtains". They will look very unusual and diversify the interior of the room. For rooms in which plastic windows are installed, it is better to select models with an open type structure, they are most convenient to use in this case. For a room with a balcony, street roll models are perfect. They will not interfere inside the room, but will easily protect it from light from outside.

How to hang?

Classic open blinds can be hung on any window. There are models that do not require drilling the frame, usually they have a fastener - a clamp, they are very convenient to install. These blinds are attached to a plastic clip mounted in the wall. The mount itself is held in the wall with screws, and the roller blinds on the sides are inserted into a round structure, which is pushed onto a base fixed in the wall.

Some open-type blinds are fixed with self-tapping screws, which are mounted in the frame. This is the most reliable type of installation, but if you have new windows, thus you void the warranty on them. In addition, when replacing the roller blinds, you will have small holes in frames. The technology is as follows:

  • First, you need to unpack the blinds and attach them to the frame.
  • In the place where the brackets will touch it, you need to make notes. In addition, it is necessary to check whether they will touch the window handle.
  • Next, you will need to use the level that will be needed to clarify the location of this structure in height.
  • Drilling must be done in the places of the marks, then the fastening must be fixed in one position with the help of self-tapping screws, and then the plugs must be put on them.
  • After that, you need to completely unwind this product in order to check how smoothly it is fixed and whether you will have to fix its installation.

It is a little easier to install closed-type blinds:

  • Initially, on the upper part, you need to fix a box in which the entire structure will be hidden. It can be screwed in with self-tapping screws, a hole for which must be drilled, or you can glue it onto a reliable double-sided tape.
  • In addition, such a system can also have magnets - this is the simplest design to install.
  • After you have installed the box with the roll, you need to glue the guides that will cover the distance between the curtain and the frame, and also correctly fix the canvas on the window.

Mini roller blinds are even easier to install. They are glued with Velcro or staples, they can be installed quickly at home without assistance.

How to remove?

Sometimes window roller blinds need to be removed. This is necessary if, for example, you want to change curtains or just wash or clean them. If they are attached with self-tapping screws, you first need to unscrew them and remove the base in the form of a roll or box, in which the canvas is hidden. If your curtains are fixed on a bracket, then you need to pry the mount with a sharp object, for example, a flat screwdriver, open it and remove the roll from there. The easiest way is to detach the models that are installed on adhesive tape, they just need to be peeled off (in some cases, you will have to soak them).

When operating such curtains, you need to take into account a lot of tips in order to extend their service life and facilitate their care. Although manufacturers indicate that such curtains are dust and moisture repellent, they still need to be provided with proper care. They need to be wiped from time to time with napkins or a damp cloth, so you will keep their original appearance for a long time. If your curtains in the form of a roller hang in the kitchen, then it is better to close them during cooking, after all, grease and soot can get on them and spoil their appearance. It is also better to fold them during general cleaning so that too much dust does not settle on them.

For the care of such products it is better to use regular soap or a mild detergent... In case you get very dirty with such a product, you can wash it with powder, but in no case you cannot use bleach for this, because paler spots may form on them. In addition, this way you can deprive the curtains of antiseptic and dust-repellent qualities. If you have sturdy wooden roller blinds, they can be dry cleaned without using wet rags. You can also periodically clean both fabric and wooden curtains with a vacuum cleaner. It is better if it has a nozzle with a soft brush.

If you want to move the curtains to another window or you are not satisfied with their size, it is better to cut them to width, while carefully processing the edges. This is not a problem for open column curtains.

In order for the roller blinds to serve you as long as possible, you need to provide them with high-quality and regular care.

Interior options

Blinds can be interesting to diversify the interior of any room and replace both classic curtains and tulle:

  • Roof blinds will save any apartment or house with a sloping roof from the light... Such models can have interesting patterns, or they can completely merge with the ceiling, thereby hiding the windows located under the arch.

  • Also, blinds are selected depending on the style of the interior of the room.... In a country style living room, it is better to purchase translucent and light blinds with warm shades. They will look very restrained and stylish. For a living room decorated in vintage style, models with bright and voluminous colors are perfect. Such patterns will color the room and help to create accents. For the bedroom, you can buy blinds to match the color of the blanket on the bed or pillows, as well as the color of the furniture upholstery.

Such products will create a single and unique ensemble that will look very interesting.

  • In the bedroom you can buy roller blinds with silver or gold patterns, which can be in the form of flowers, as well as in the form of interlacing of thin threads.
  • Such blinds can be double- one part will have a darker shade, and the other will be lighter. This is a great option for a bedroom, because this way you can adjust the lighting in the room.

Traditional curtains and blinds had to make room for a new type of window design - roller blinds, which are also called fabric roller blinds, roller blinds. They successfully fit into different interiors, are laconic, attractive and functional. To choose roller blinds for plastic windows for each room in an apartment, you need to get to know their types, types of fasteners and the properties of the materials from which they are made.

Rolled products originated from the famous Roman blinds, but made of modern materials, with an improved mechanism, they have become a new phenomenon in the design of window openings. Built-in devices raise and lower the roller blinds to any position, allowing you to adjust the light intensity.

Blinds, placed strictly according to the size of the window opening or a separate glass unit, as in the photo, evoke associations with colored inserts.

Mounting methods

The dimensions of the curtain are directly related to the parameters of the window opening and the configuration of the double-glazed unit, therefore, before going to the store, you need to measure the window. The length is universal, usually does not exceed 1.8 m and is suitable for any configuration of PVC windows.

Curtains can be attached to the entire window at once - above the window opening or inside it. This is done when the flap does not open or it is rarely used. But more often they are connected to each window sash autonomously, and this is one of the main features of such curtains. Let's look at several options for installing fabric roller blinds.

"Open" mount

Everything is simple here:

  • a shaft with a fabric wound on it;
  • the mechanism that drives the shaft;
  • bottom bar that performs the function of alignment.

The size of the curtain, the diameter of the shaft, the shape and thickness of the strip may vary, the principle of operation is the same. In this case, the fabric does not fit tightly to the window glass, but the weighting agent at the bottom of the curtain prevents the fabric from sagging.

Note! If the blind is attached over the window opening, so that there are no side slots, it should be at least 10 cm wider than it.

The cost of such curtains is relatively low in comparison with other varieties.

System "mini"

This is an improved and cheaper version of traditional roller blinds. Due to the compactness of the control unit and fixing components, such roller blinds are suitable for small windows. Driven by a chain. Installation and removal takes just a few minutes.

Cassette roller blinds

The cassette curtains are equipped with a decorative box, a masking roller. The kit contains side rails that act as guides for the canvas. They help the curtain to fit snugly against the window and prevent light from entering from the side slots.

Main advantage: the window opens freely. An additional plus is the free surface of the window sill.

Some cassette blinds have a spring device that adjusts the length of the curtain. They are usually installed on roof windows to keep the belt taut. The mechanism can be operated both manually and using a remote control. This is especially useful when the windows are high.

Such a system in many respects outperforms the open one, it is more beautiful, more practical, but it costs more.

Helpful advice. When buying cassette curtains, they look not only at the color of the canvases, but also at the color of the box. It is good when it matches the tone of the window frame.

Lovolight system

Louvolite blinds are designed for impressive-sized windows. They are fixed to the ceiling and deployed to the floor. Reliable components allow you to decorate panoramic windows with such curtains up to 7 m wide and 6 m high. Roller blinds "Lovolight" are sold both with an open shaft and with one hidden in a box. Option of remote control is possible. They are most often installed in offices, shop windows.

"Day Night"

Among the latest successful developments in the field of sun protection systems is a double roller blind, which harmoniously combines the advantages of a roller blind and blinds. It consists of 2 parallel canvases, in which transparent and opaque stripes of equal width alternate in succession.

The opaque elements are composed of dense natural and synthetic materials... Light-transmitting areas are made of tulle, organza, fine mesh or veil. The strips are thermally connected to each other, treated with Teflon impregnation, which provides dust-repellent and antistatic properties. Such curtains can have both open and cassette roll systems.

When the control chain moves, the transparent and opaque stripes change their position relative to each other:

  • when transparent areas coincide, the room is as illuminated as possible;
  • with an incomplete coincidence, a pleasant twilight appears;
  • when covered with dense transparent stripes, the window ceases to be a source of street light.

How to hang: video

Hanging roller blinds is easy if you familiarize yourself with simple technology. Before installation, the kit is pre-assembled, fasteners are prepared. The device is mounted with self-tapping screws or PVC staples. The places for drilling are chosen carefully so as not to touch the important structures of the glass unit with the drill.

Or you can do without a drill: there are roller blinds that are fixed with double-sided tape or special brackets. For the latter, you need to choose a model with hook angles that are hung from above on the opening sash. The swing-out part is equipped with a magnetic system, which ensures the guaranteed fixation of the device.

But installation with self-tapping screws is, of course, more reliable. Usually, an instruction is attached to the purchase, which will help you to assemble and install a new roller blind without calling the master. The following video will clearly introduce the process.

Materials for roller blinds

Blinds can be:

  • bamboo;
  • jute;
  • made of wood;
  • tissue.

Manufacturers use fabrics that are lightweight, shape-stable and resistant to sunlight. Most often used:

  • polyester;
  • nylon;
  • cotton;
  • fiberglass.

The main emphasis is on functionality, so these curtains are different:

  • antistatic;
  • durability;
  • dust-repellent properties;
  • the ability to retain heat, prevent the penetration of cold air.

It is in roll structures that the most modern fabrics are used. According to their light transmission, they are divided into 4 classes:

  • blackout - curtains made of such material do not transmit light (light reflection - 95%), cold and noise. Perfect for creating an atmosphere of tranquility, comfort, security;
  • dimout - decorative fabric with an original structure of a complex satin weave, has the ability to transmit diffused light, providing complete blackout at night;
  • "Day-night" - the fabric consists of strips with different light transmittance;
  • transparent - their function is limited to window decoration. They are used in conjunction with conventional curtains.

The colors and textures of materials are possible the most diverse and depends only on the preferences of the owner of the room.

Care

Although roller blinds are filled with a solution that maintains their original shape and protects from contamination, they also need care. You can't call it complicated, but certain rules exist:

  • Regular washing is contraindicated, especially if it is completely 100% natural. In order not to damage the special impregnation, use soft sponges, neutral detergents.
  • The washing machine is not acceptable either.
  • Damp cleaning or washing should be the last method when dry cleaning is not helpful. Often, an ordinary eraser eraser copes with the stain.
  • Products must not be broken or bent.
  • Curtains do not hang for drying, it is the cause of creases.
  • Under the ban, chemicals, bleaches and other aggressive agents.

When preparing food or any other work where there is a possibility of contamination, it is preferable to roll the curtain.

Roller blinds in the apartment

Designers use roller blinds in the design of a wide variety of rooms. Combining simplicity and sophistication, they are appropriate everywhere.

Living room

Such curtains are popular with people who prefer laconic design. However, they can be used in any style:

  • a high-tech room looks organically with roller blinds of the color of wet asphalt, as well as white and black;
  • minimalism will only require a hint of color;
  • the Japanese style in the living room assumes natural natural tones of green and brown, bamboo blinds are organic here;
  • modern and pop art require bright roller blinds;
  • in an interior in a classic or English style, blinds alone are not enough; they are complemented with tulle or traditional blackout curtains.

When the window is facing north, curtains in warm pastel colors are a good option. The northern windows are well decorated with golden, fawn, yellow colors... For a brightly lit room, cool shades are suitable.

A few more tips:

  • The choice of curtain color is influenced by the size of the room. The blinds, the color of which matches the color of the walls, will help to visually expand the living room space.
  • Bright drawings can revive the dull interior. Products with photo printing are in demand.
  • A memorable design effect is provided by the coincidence of patterns on curtains and cushions.

According to the criteria of light transmission, the "day-night" type curtains that regulate the natural lighting of the room are considered optimal in the living room.

Bedroom

In a place where everything is set for productive relaxation, blackout reflective curtains that can completely or partially shade the room will become suitable. Blackout blackout curtains are indispensable in the bedrooms of people who have to shift sleep to daytime due to work at night.

In the bedroom, flashy colors are undesirable. It is better to choose a calm palette here: pearl, sand, peach, golden tones.

When choosing a tone, you should pay attention to the shades of grass and summer foliage. Green is the color of rest, curtains of a similar color in the bedroom will be the right decision.

Children's room

The disadvantage of traditional fabric curtains in the nursery are long ends, which, with restless inhabitants, sometimes even lead to a break in the cornice and other unpleasant consequences. They also collect dust.

Rolled curtains are devoid of such disadvantages. Dirt-repellent impregnation reliably protects cleanliness. In addition, anti-static impregnations and even antibacterial ones are used for roller blinds. It is also easy to adjust the light mode with them.

One more nuance: with early years the little person gets acquainted with the advantages of technological solutions, and independently controlling the degree of opening of the blinds, he joins the basics of choosing the necessary options.

In the nursery, they choose a bright, positive palette that lifts the mood. It is recommended to avoid color dissonance: excessive variegation is tiring. It is better to choose the color of the curtains, combined with the shade of the wallpaper.

Do not dwell on blue or red: the former can cause a depressive mood, the latter - aggression. Green, yellow, pink, blue tones, geometric or floral designs are desirable. Children love curtains with cartoon characters, pets, and their own photographs. Now it is possible to order a roll cloth with a self-selected image that will delight the child.

Roller blinds in the kitchen

Housewives who have already tried on their kitchen windows similar curtains, unanimously note that they become much less dirty and dusty. They are convenient to use, easy to care for, and at the same time, they are not inferior to traditional curtains in their ability to create a cozy atmosphere.

The most suitable here are synthetic fabrics, which are easier to maintain attractiveness in kitchen conditions although cotton, linen and even silk are appropriate. The main thing is that the material is with special impregnation, dust-repellent, anti-fading.

Plus, fabrics for roller blinds are treated with fire-resistant compounds, and this is a serious advantage over flammable curtains. They are compact, so small kitchen spaces such a curtain is a real treasure.

The kitchen requires light and optimistic color schemes. When choosing, you must take into account the size of the room, the style in which the furniture is made. It is not difficult to do this, since the range of roller blinds is designed for all occasions.

Advantages of roller blinds for loggias, balconies:

  • compactness - they do not clutter up an already small space;
  • convenience - do not interfere with the use of window sashes;
  • minimal maintenance - it is enough to regularly wipe with a damp cloth;
  • for models where the weighting bar is fixed in the guides, the roller blinds are held in different positions of the sash;
  • products equipped with an electric drive, a photo and a thermal sensor are controlled from a distance, taking into account the illumination and air temperature.

Due to the modest size of the loggia, it is preferable to use fabric roller blinds attached directly to the window frame.

Lovers of dark colors should give preference to reflective materials, otherwise, absorbing solar energy, they will raise the temperature.

It is better to equip solar balconies with roller blinds with a dense structure that protects against high temperatures. The space of the loggia on the north side is protected only from prying eyes, so here they are limited to roller shutters made of light translucent fabric.

Roller blinds have become quite popular with the advent and widespread distribution of plastic windows. Their demand is due to the ease of operation and maintenance, as well as a very original and aesthetic appearance. This type of curtain is especially convenient and practical for balcony windows, since ordinary curtains suspended on eaves are not very suitable for this room with an already small area. Although they do not "steal" useful area, but visually make it much smaller.

Many people really like this method of closing windows, but it is stopped by the fact that holes for fasteners will have to be drilled in the window sashes, which will violate the integrity of the metal-plastic profile. Manufacturers of roller blind systems have foreseen this moment and have developed special fasteners that can be easily assembled and installed without the help of a master armed with special tools. It is quite possible, and even quite simple, to independently mount roller blinds on plastic windows without drilling the profile of the frames. To find out how to make the installation correctly, you need to understand at least a little about the design of this system.

What are roller blinds

Roller blinds are a structure consisting of a special canvas and a movable holder shaft, with which you can conveniently straighten, roll up and fix the curtain.

The fastening system of many models does not provide for the use of self-tapping screws and window sash perforation. The functioning of the system is based on the principle of operation of the so-called "Roman blinds", but adapted to modern materials and fasteners.

Roller blinds can be used both separately and in combination with "classic" curtains

Roller blinds can be used as an independent accessory or in combination with traditional curtains. These useful window accessories will help keep expensive fabrics from burning out under the influence of ultraviolet rays, and if they are tastefully matched to the curtains, then this "ensemble" can also become an interior decoration. This type of curtain fits organically into any design style interior. They can be made in solid pastel neutral shades or have some kind of pattern.

In addition, the canvas can be translucent or serve as a protective barrier from the sun, completely blocking the entry of its rays into the room.

The convenience of the system also lies in the fact that the canvas in the mounts can be replaced with another one. For example, for the summer period you can install a sun-protection curtain, and for the winter you can replace it with a brighter one, made in bright "summer" colors, which are so lacking at this time of the year. Such a curtain will cheer you up and create a favorable atmosphere in the room.

The curtain is compact, as it is mounted in the window opening, and due to the fact that it is close to the glass, there is maximum protection against light coming through it. Therefore, even in a room located on the sunny side, you can create a comfortable environment in the most intense heat.

Roller blinds resemble horizontal ones, but their advantage is that they do not accumulate dust and do not create gaps. In addition, the canvas is easy to clean with a soft cloth and detergent... Curtains do not look as formal as blinds, which contributes to creating a cozy atmosphere in the rooms.

Varieties of roller blinds

Roller blinds, which can be installed without drilling window frames, can be divided into several varieties. To find the right model, you need to consider the characteristics of all options.

Roller blinds of the "Mini" class

Mini roller blinds are the most affordable type of this interior accessory. They are very easy to install and operate. The shaft on which the canvas is wound is open, and the curtain itself is stretched along the entire perimeter of the glass under the action of a weighting agent installed along its lower edge. To prevent it from "rinsing", simple latches are used, which are fixed to the frame on Double-sided tape... The simplest of these are magnets.

Roller blinds of the "Mini" class

This type of curtain can be called the most popular, due to its low price and the ability to install on any window. The design is easy to clean and compact in size.

Cassette type curtains

The cassette design differs from the "mini" design in that the shaft with the web fixed to it is in a compact box. Therefore, in the folded state, the curtain is almost invisible, and also completely protected from ultraviolet rays.

The box can be matched to the color or textured pattern of the frame. The material from which this element is made can imitate white plastic or wood texture.

Mini-cassette type of curtains

Manufactured and combined options, which are called "mini cassette". They are installed on separate window sashes, they do not interfere with their opening and closing. The canvas is also folded into a box, which is installed on the top strip of the sash. These roller blinds, in turn, can be divided into two types:

  • UNI 1 - this type of construction is designed for wide glazing beads, since the guides for the curtains are attached to their inner part, along the entire perimeter of the glass, and the box is installed directly on the upper strip of the window sash. In this case, the canvas is as close as possible to the surface of the glass unit.
  • UNI 2 differs from the first type in that the guides are installed on the outer part of the glazing bead on both sides of the glass. A curtain box is attached to the upper strip of the window sash.

Additional criteria for choosing roller blinds

In addition to the classification mentioned above, roller blinds are divided into double and single. TO double curtains, for example, refers to the variant that is called "day-night". Their canvases consist of transparent and dense horizontal stripes alternating with each other, and when the correct combination is made, they can achieve the desired effect of lighting the room.

Day-night effect curtains

When dense strips are combined with each other, a striped "daytime" curtain is obtained that transmits light. If one of the canvases goes down or rises up, then dense stripes overlap completely or partially transparent on the other, and the curtain becomes "night".

If you want to create twilight in the room during the daytime, the stripes can be combined in such a way that thin gaps will be formed between them, allowing light to pass through.

If you don't want to see dark stripes on the window during the daytime, you can purchase an option where white stripes alternate with transparent ones.

Roller blinds are also divided into three types of blackout:

  • Transparent fabrics that completely transmit light and imitate tulle. In the daytime, they block the view of the premises from the street.
  • Shading canvases, translucent - they reduce the intensity of sunlight and scatter bright light, making it soft and comfortable.

Sunscreen or opaque canvases are able to completely block the flow of light into the room. This option is perfect for a room or located on the south or southwest side of the house.

A special material "Blackout" helps to achieve these effects, which is also used in the manufacture of roller blinds "day-night".

The overwhelming number of produced roller blinds models are opened and closed manually, most often with the help of a special chain connected to the shaft gear. However, there are other types, quite expensive, in which an electric drive is installed, and control can be carried out using a remote control. These automated curtains are produced with two or with one curtain, but they must have a cassette design.

Sizes of roller blinds

In specialized stores today you can find a fairly wide range of roller blinds, but manufacturers serially produce these accessories for windows standard sizes... If the double-glazed windows are made according to individual projects and have very large or, conversely, small dimensions, you will have to look for the possibility of placing an order. For existing manufacturers, this is considered common practice, and craftsmen take on such work without any problems.

On sale, you can usually always find curtains with a length of 1600, 1750, 2200 mm, and a width of 300 to 1400 mm, which basically corresponds to the dimensions of standard sashes and frames. Problems can arise with the width, since the sashes are sometimes made narrower. Therefore, before purchasing curtains, you need to correctly measure. The conduct of this process will depend on the selected type of roll structure.

Measurements for mini curtains

  • The first step is to measure the width of the glass, plus the width of the glazing beads. Then, not the height of the glass is measured, but the entire window sash. It is better to write down the results.
  • Next, you need to determine the location of the control mechanism. It is usually installed on the side of the window hinges.
  • The next step is to choose the type of attachment of the curtain to the window (it may differ - for an opening or a fixed sash).

Measurements for cassette curtains

This system requires special attention when measuring, since the curtain will be installed exactly in the frame opening. In this case, you need to pay attention to what kind of glazing beads hold the glass unit in shape:

  • If the glazing beads have a right angle, then the height and width of the glass are measured between them. This is the size of the curtain you need to purchase or order.
  • If the glazing beads are beveled, then the width and height of the glass are measured by the greater distance between them.

Measurements for mini-cassette curtains

  • For the system of mini-cassette roller blinds type UNI 1, the dimensions are taken according to the "a" scheme shown in the drawing, that is, the size of the glass without glazing beads.
  • For UNI 2 construction, the dimensions are taken from the glass, plus the width of the glazing beads.

Roller blinds are a great addition to high-quality metal-plastic windows.

How to install roller blinds on plastic windows without drilling a frame profile

Installation technologies different types roller blinds each have their own individual characteristics. The only thing that unites them is that there is no need to perforate the window frame to secure the structure.

Illustration
The first thing to do is to prepare all the accessories for the curtain.
They should be laid out on the table and, based on the technical description, assembled into the desired structure.
In this case, details are presented intended for an opening and a blind window.
Both mounting options will be discussed below.
The photo clearly shows details that look like hooks - brackets, they will hold the roller with a curtain on the window sash.
There are also parts that have a semicircular shape on one side. In one of them there is a round hole - a groove, and in the other, a protruding part - a thorn. The same mating elements are found on both sides of the roller.
These parts must be installed on the roller - accordingly, the groove is aligned with the tenon on each side.

Installation of a mini-class roller blind on an opening sash

IllustrationBrief description of the performed operation
For the installation of a structure that is mounted on an opening window, the following parts are required:
the roller blind itself on the roller, brackets, a chain lifting mechanism, fixing clamps and a special double-sided tape.
The brackets will not only catch on the sash of the window - they must additionally be fixed to it using double-sided tape.
Therefore, first of all, the sites on them, where the adhesive tape will be glued, must be well degreased and dried.
Then small pieces of scotch tape are glued to them.
In the next step, the brackets are connected to the holders with a thorn-groove using a special mount.
Then, a chain mechanism is put on one side of the roller, and brackets with holders are installed.
Next, fitting is carried out - the assembled structure is put on with brackets on the upper part of the open window and leveled, that is, the correct position of the curtain on the window frame is determined.
Then, you should mark the exact location of the brackets.
It is needed in order to firmly fix the brackets on double-sided tape after degreasing the surface.
Degreasing the outside of the window frame strip is carried out using a special tool or ordinary alcohol.
Other organic solvents are strictly contraindicated!
After this process, the surfaces are allowed to dry thoroughly.
Further, the protective film is removed from the adhesive tape glued on the brackets.
The brackets are put on the top bar of the sash of the open window and strongly press against its surface.
It is necessary to snap the clamp provided on the bracket until it stops.
The second bracket is installed and fixed in the same way.
Further, on the side where the spike with the gear is located on the bracket, a chain mechanism is mounted that will open and close the curtain.
After that, a roller with a curtain is inserted into the brackets fixed on the window.
This is done very carefully so as not to damage the plastic parts.
This photo clearly shows how tightly the brackets should fix the roller to each other.
The last thing to do is to make sure that the structure is working properly by checking the opening and closing of the curtain, transferring the necessary force through the chain.

Installation of a mini-class roller blind on a blind sash of a window

Since the window cannot be opened, hook brackets are not suitable for mounting a roller blind on it. Therefore, in this case, you will have to use special plates with grooves for snapping holders on them - side brackets with a gear.

IllustrationBrief description of the performed operation
Since the window cannot be opened, hook brackets are not suitable for mounting a roller blind on it, so in this case you will have to use special plates with grooves to snap the holders onto them - the side brackets with a gear.
Double-sided tape is glued to the plates that are defatted with alcohol or a special composition.
After that, the side brackets are fixed to the plates.
In finished form, they look like this.
Then, a chain mechanism is installed on the gear, the brackets are inserted into the roller.
Further, the fitting of the structure to the window is made, and at the same time the desired position of the curtain is marked on it.
The brackets will be fixed only with adhesive tape, on the upper strip of the window frame.
The place where the plates with the side holding brackets will be glued must also be degreased very well.
Then, the protective film is removed from the tape.
The brackets are installed in the marked places and pressed firmly.
After that, a chain mechanism is put on the roller with the curtain from the side where the gear is located, and the roller is mounted on the window in the fixed brackets.
The last step is to check the operation of the mechanism - for this you need to unfold and roll up the curtain several times.

Description of the installation process of cassette roller blinds

IllustrationBrief description of the performed operation
In this case, the set of roller blinds includes guides.
Often, the manufacturer himself already applies a special adhesive tape to all the elements, and during installation it remains simply to remove the protective film and stick the elements to the marked places.
This type of curtain is sold assembled, that is, the curtain is already fixed in the box, so it is quite simple to mount such a structure.
The box for the cassette version of the roller blinds is fixed on the upper strip of the window sash. But first of all, you need to degrease it and make markings on it.
These actions are necessary in order for the box to stand perfectly horizontally and exactly in the center of the window glass, since in the future the curtain must fall into the guides fixed vertically on both sides of the glass unit.
The next step is to try on the box on the fat-free area.
Then, the protective film is removed from the adhesive tape located on its back wall, and the entire assembled unit is firmly pressed against the upper strip of the window sash.
Next, you need to glue the guides. They, depending on the type of curtain (UNI 1 or UNI 2), are mounted on outside glazing bead, or on the inside, with one side in this case, pressing against the glass.
In this case, the installation of a UNI 2 curtain is shown, when the guide runs along the outside of the glazing bead.
If scotch tape is already installed on the guides, then the parts are first tried on, combining with the box.
If the adhesive tape is not provided by the manufacturer, then it must first be glued (after degreasing the surface) on the plane of the guide, which should adjoin the surface of the sash.
Then, 30 ÷ 40 mm of protective film is removed from the tape.
After that, the guide is installed in the box and to the glazing bead.
Holding the guide in place right hand, with the left, carefully and gradually, remove the protective film from the entire strip of adhesive tape.
When all the film is removed, the guide is firmly pressed against the glazing bead.
In the same way, a second glazing guide is installed on the opposite side of the glass unit.
Having fixed the guides, the curtains are wound in them, as it will move inside them.
The next step is to put a retaining ring on the chain mechanism, which will not allow the chain to slide along the gear.
AND final stage- This is a test of the curtain for opening and closing.

As you can see from the above options for fixing the curtains without drilling, it is even somewhat easier to install the cassette view than the "mini" one, but both options are quite available for self-assembly. The main thing is to carry out the process slowly and as carefully as possible. If the marking is carried out correctly, then the installation of all the elements will not take much time and effort.
