Sheathe the old house with a block house. We sheathe the house with a blockhouse: a description of the installation technology

When building a house, they are used Construction Materials of different origins... In many countries, in places where people live, they prefer to use natural products. They have been used since ancient times for construction, decoration of buildings, bringing positive energy, creating a comfortable living environment.

Features of a wooden block house

Among modern natural materials, used for exterior decoration of buildings, more and more often you can find a block house - a type of wooden lining.

Handsome and stylish house, sheathed with a block house, in the photo is indistinguishable from a high-quality natural log house. In addition to the external similarity, such a decoration of buildings has a large number of common positive aspects.

Houses built from natural logs are renowned for their durability. Nowadays, you can often find buildings that are more than a century old, which have not lost their qualities and are actively used. It is easy to breathe in such houses, there is no high humidity, a favorable psychological climate is formed.

To replace the popular material, the industry has started producing inexpensive coatings. These include a metal profiled sheet and siding (see), imitating a natural block house. Each of these varieties has a beautiful appearance, good strength indicators, rather long term of use, but not suitable for internal use.

Vinyl or acrylic siding is becoming especially popular for creating stylish building cladding. When deciding which sample is better, siding or block house, it should be remembered that natural materials are more suitable for the arrangement of places where people live due to their environmental friendliness and harmlessness.

At the same time, when deciding what is better to sheathe their home, many make a choice in the direction of siding, guided by affordable prices and long term use, the absence of the need for complex care and additional measures to maintain an appropriate appearance. However, this only applies to quality samples from reliable manufacturers.

Positive characteristics

The house, clad with a block house made of wood, combines many advantages that distinguish it from other materials:

1). High environmental performance.

2). The absence of harmful emissions allows it to be used for decoration not only outside, but also inside buildings, in the construction of mansions, summer cottages, summer buildings, saunas, baths, utility rooms.

3). Good hygroscopicity and vapor permeability of wood helps to absorb excess moisture present in the room and remove it outside, leading to a decrease in the level of humidity.

4). Due to its good sound absorption and low thermal conductivity, the block house is an additional insulating and sound insulating layer.

5). Easy to install (see), not requiring special equipment and tool, makes the cladding of the house with a block house a fairly simple operation, allowing the neat owner to do it himself beautiful finish own residential and domestic facilities.

6). A beautiful appearance allows you to implement modern design projects on high level quality, for example, in the popular rustic style, build beautiful, reliable, durable houses.

Variety of material

The appearance of the block house can be compared with wooden clapboard, having a convex front part, carefully finished under a rounded log. There is a variety with a cut convex part. Such a block house has a surface that resembles a timber.

The strength, reliability and durability of the surface is ensured by a tongue-groove connection (tongue, tongue). To do this, on each product, a groove is cut on one side, and a tongue is made on the other. This type of joining the strips of the block house with each other creates a high-quality connection and protection against moisture and cold penetration.

For the manufacture of a block house used in outdoor decoration, conifers are most often used:

  • Pine.
  • Larch.

A spruce block house has insufficient strength for outdoor use, but it can be successfully used for interior decoration.

From hardwoods of alder, oak, birch, it turns out durable, beautiful and eco-friendly material... The size of its use is limited by a rather high price. These types of block houses can be used for a stylish interior decoration cottages, baths, saunas.

Premises finished wooden block house very beautiful, have a pleasant golden color, warm surface... In such a room, a comfortable environment for a person is created, which does not harm health, but, on the contrary, has healing properties due to the natural components included in the composition. The tree is able to relieve fatigue, replenish strength, restore mental balance.

A house finished with a block house not only looks beautiful and stylish. With this finish, you can get a durable wall covering that reliably protects against atmospheric influences, creating a comfortable and warm living space.

A wooden house in a "rural" area looks as natural and attractive as a brick house in a city. Especially when the material for the walls is a rounded log. But a log is not cheap, and a lot of time must pass for the house to shrink and Finishing work... Therefore, other materials and technologies are often used. And in order to create a reliable imitation of a log house, they choose a house block for exterior decoration of the house.

House block as a type of facade lining

According to its purpose, method of fastening and connection, the house block is a kind of "lining".

In fact, the production technology can be imagined as cutting a bar out of a rounded log, as a result of which four slabs with a regular spherical surface will remain - they serve as a blank for a block house. It remains only to cut a spike along one side length, on the other - to cut off and cut a groove. And of course on seamy side grooves must be made to relieve internal stress in the wood.

In addition to the above, there is a manufacturing technology from "standard" sawn timber - boards or beams. But in view of a large number waste, its cost will be higher than that of the traditional one.

Such a cutter is used to cut a house block from a bar or board.

If we talk about the grade, then there are no domestic standards for this type of sawn timber. But in practice, manufacturers have developed their own classification, according to which there are three "pure" options and two "mixed".

The "clean" options are A, B, C.

Grade “A” differs from “B” in the number of healthy knots per 1 m, their admissible diameter (15 mm versus 20 mm) and the absence of “black” knots and cracks. For grade "B" small and short cracks are allowed, plus a small amount of "black", but not falling out knots.

Grades "C" and "BC" are not used for decorating houses, they are suitable for building fences or decorating outbuildings somewhere in the backyard.

Sheathing board is just lumber - the quality requirements are the same as for other jobs

For the exterior cladding of a house with a house block, panels with a thickness of at least 30 mm are taken. And due to the peculiarities of massive sawn timber, it is almost impossible to find a "perfectly" clean house block 4-6 m long, therefore a "mixed" grade "AB" appeared. In addition, even when storing sawn timber, small defects in the form of shallow cracks may appear.

Sometimes there is another classification borrowed from European manufacturers: "Extra" ("Prima"), "A" "B" "C". If we draw parallels, then "Extra" will be the "pure" grade "A".

With such a length, it is impossible to find a panel "without a knot and a hitch", and for cladding the facade it is not necessary

Advice! Since there are no standards for a block house, manufacturers are free to assign any sort of product to their products. Therefore, when buying, you need to make sure that the declared quality meets your requirements.

Wood selection criteria

Even vinyl siding"Block House" has certain features that testify to the quality of the facade panels. Wood is a "thinner" material, and in many respects from the right choice durability depends exterior cladding... Therefore, it is not enough to evaluate the conformity of the variety - the density, resistance to moisture and strength of the wood are important.

Only conifers are used to decorate the house with a block house. Hardwoods (linden, oak, ash) are used for interior cladding walls.

Larch is considered an elite material and its qualities a priori correspond to the operating conditions on outdoors: high humidity and the effects of precipitation. The density and strength of Russian larch, like that of the northern tree species (it still grows in Siberia), will also be at a high level.

Larch has a dense and durable wood, so it is not in vain that it belongs to the elite conifers

With pine it is not so unambiguous. Most of all for facade decoration northern pine is suitable - its strength and density are much higher than that of wood from warm regions. And the origin of the pine block of the house is determined by the distance between the annual rings - the closer they are to each other, the better. The quality criterion is at least three rings per 1 cm of the end cut.

How to choose the width

There are criteria for choosing the diameter of a rounded log, depending on the purpose and size of the house.

During construction small house seasonal residence (summer cottage, summer house) use a log with a diameter of up to 220 mm, visible part which lies in the range of 150-180 mm.

For a "full-size" heated house, the minimum diameter of the log is 240 mm, the recommended diameter is 260-280 mm. And the visible part is 190-210 mm.

To maintain the "proportions", the width of the house block must correspond to the visible part of the log:

  • for a cottage - 140-150 mm (with a thickness of 28-36 mm);
  • for a large house - 190 mm and above (with a thickness of 36-45 mm).

Plating options

The house block installation method is the only one - along a vertical crate with a horizontal arrangement of panels.

The lathing is needed in any case. Even when sheathed wooden house, and it is possible to mount the panels directly to the wall, a ventilation gap is required to weather the moisture (otherwise the wood will start to rot).

The issue of insulation is decided depending on the seasonality of residence and the materials of the walls. If this is a "summer" house, then the insulation is not carried out. You can also not mount thermal insulation materials when the house is built according to frame technology or from foam concrete blocks 40 cm thick.

Sheathing during the construction of a "skeleton", as another option for using a block house

In other cases, wall insulation is mandatory - the costs will quickly pay off due to savings on heating and air conditioning.

Installation features

Despite belonging to the lining, the methods of attachment to the lathing when exterior cladding block house houses are different than when carrying out internal work.

Inside, narrow modifications of panels of small thickness (up to 20-22 mm) are used, and the operating conditions are characterized by stability of humidity and temperature. Therefore, the house block can be fixed to the lathing using fasteners concealed installation- kleimers. Exterior decoration is carried out with a thick and wide sheathing board, in which, with changes in humidity, such internal stress forces arise that it can simply be pulled out of engagement.

Video description

You can clearly see the block house decoration in the video:

The second reason that does not allow the use of clamps for external cladding is the way the block house is located on the facade. The groove to which the bracket "clings" must point downward (so that moisture does not get into it). And with this orientation, the panels can be mounted on the clamps only from top to bottom.

That's why outer cladding carried out in one of two ways:

  1. Open. The panel is screwed to each beam at two points - from the side of the groove and closer to the spike. Before fastening, holes are drilled into which the screws are screwed in with force so that their heads do not protrude above the surface of the panel. Then these places are putty, disguising as a small knot. This mounting method is the safest and is recommended for thick and wide house blocks.
  2. Hidden. The bottom panel near the groove is attached open way, plus at the base of the thorn, holes are drilled at an angle of 45 ° into which self-tapping screws are screwed. Each next row of a house block (except for the last one) is fixed only through a thorn. The top row is fixed in an open way.

Note... Due to fluctuations in humidity, the tree changes its size across the fibers - it swells or dries out. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that during installation a small gap remains between the stop of the groove of the upper row and the spike of the lower one. If the workers miss this nuance, then over time the wall will deform.

Design features

Sheathing the facade of a house from a block house is more difficult than from imitation of a bar or planken. The reason is in the peculiarities of "bulky" lumber. Radius panels are more difficult to fit together.

The most accurate way to increase the length is considered to be "counter" washed down a block of house at an angle of 45 °.

But more often they use a simpler option - a strip in the form of a rail or board. The place for it is chosen in such a way that it looks natural and is common to all connected panels.

Strip strips and corners are the easiest way to cover joints

Corner joints are also designed in a similar way - by joining through a gash at a corner or by an overlay of two rails.

The final stage of cladding is surface sanding and coating with varnish or colorless paint.

Conclusion

As a result, based on the foregoing, it is clear that decorating a house with a block house is more complicated than any other facade panels. To be sure of the quality and durability of the cladding, it is better to entrust this work to professionals.

A blockhouse is a special type of cladding that imitates:

  • rounded log;
  • construction beam;
  • decorative lining.

Due to its aesthetics and ease of fastening, the blockhouse can be used not only for external cladding of a house, but also inside buildings. This solution looks quite natural if the same material is used. This allows you to maintain a single style of design (including for wooden log cabins from a typical bar).

Is it necessary to veneer wood-like walls? The following nuances can be the answer to this:

  1. When assembling a log house from logs or a bar (using the principle of connection "in a paw"), its external and inner surfaces in the presence of cladding, in any case, they will look stricter and more elegant than without it.
  2. This allows you to give the building a traditionally "Russian" look.
  3. And, finally, additional insulation of the building walls and their protection from external climatic influences is provided.

You can decorate the house with a blockhouse yourself, but you should take into account some of the features of this design. When purchasing a cladding, first of all, you should make sure that there are special connecting grooves on the samples you have chosen. The fact is that there is a type of blockhouse, the plates of which are devoid of such grooves, which significantly complicates their installation. As for the conditions for carrying out the work, it must be remembered that fixing the coating can only be done after the final shrinkage of the structure.

Preparatory stage

To fix the boards, a crate is prepared, which is mounted directly on the walls. Basic structure It is made of 30 × 30 mm bars, placed vertically with a step of about 60 cm. Before installing the frame made with ordinary nails, the bars are treated with a composition that protects the wood from fungus and prevents it from rotting.

At the stage of arranging the lathing, it will be necessary to decide whether the insulation, which is usually placed between the blockhouse and the walls, will be laid. Having completed this work, you will not only insulate your home, but also provide it with good sound insulation.

At the end of the frame assembly, it will be possible to proceed to direct installation decorative panels... Regardless of the type of fastening chosen, work is carried out from the bottom up. Do not forget that the blockhouse must be pre-treated with an antiseptic.

Connection methods

Let's consider how to properly fix the boards to the crate. Known mounting methods assume the following options:

  • the use of a retainer called "cleat", which is inserted into the groove with one part, and with the other part it is fixed on the frame bars with the help of self-tapping screws;
  • fixing the blockhouse with screws or self-tapping screws;
  • nailing at an angle of 45 degrees into the groove.

The clamping fastener ensures the wedging of the connecting lock, due to which the necessary strength and reliability of the assembly is achieved decorative coating... The indisputable advantage of this method of fixing is considered to be the hiddenness of the fasteners themselves and the ability to do without self-tapping screws that violate the integrity facing material and increasing the likelihood of splitting.

The second option for fixing the panels looks a little more complicated and needs additional preparation, made as we sheathe the building with the blockhouse. To implement it, a round recess is made in the board half of its thickness with a diameter equal to the size of the head of the fastening screw. In this case, the screw is completely recessed in the hole, and from above it is closed with a pre-prepared plug, which is subsequently sanded flush with the surface. A good alternative to wooden cork is a special paste of the corresponding (wood) color, which reliably protects the screw cap from moisture and rust.

Block House is a special type of wagon board that looks like a rounded log on the outside of the panel. It is used for finishing the house from the inside and from the outside. The main advantage of the house block is its excellent appearance and ease of installation (the panels have a “tongue-and-groove” connection system).

There are several options for fixing the panels to the sheathing timber.

How to fix a house block?

The first option provides for the use of a special galvanized clamp "claymore". One part of the claymore is bent into the "groove" of the wooden panel, and the other is attached to the batten of the lathing using a self-tapping screw. After that, adhesion to the next panel occurs and the process is repeated. Claymore helps to unblock the connecting lock, thereby achieving high strength and reliability of laying. If necessary, the use of liquid nails is allowed.

The undoubted advantage of this type of fastening is the absence of the need to apply screws or nails directly to the panel itself. As a result, the risk of damage to the board is reduced to zero.

The second option is a little more complicated and will require additional preparatory work... In this case, it is provided for the direct fastening of the house block panel itself to the timber by means of self-tapping screws. To do this, a hole is made in the board half of its thickness and with a diameter in the head of the screw. Next, the screw is recessed into the hole, and it is with a wooden stopper, which will need to be sanded flush with the surface of the board. How Alternative option a special wood-colored paste can be used to seal the hole, it will not only hide the screw cap but also protect it from moisture and rust.

With this method, there is a risk of damage to the board and the formation of cracks and chips on it.

There is also a third way of attaching the house block boards to the lathing, in which a galvanized nail is hammered into the groove of the board at an angle of 45 degrees. But due to the large number of rejects with this styling option and the need for a certain skill, we will miss it.

Difficulties that you may encounter during installation

The first problem that can arise is the joining of panels at the corners of the building. And although there are special corners and baseboards, it is sometimes very difficult to fit parts of a house block under them. It is best to first drive out both walls of the corner, and then, using a semicircular or flat wagon board, hide the joint by attaching it with liquid bunches or special glue... More experienced craftsmen they prefer to hide the corners, making a kind of groove in the frame itself.

The note: sharp corners it is worth hiding behind a special wooden lath.

The second difficulty that can arise is the installation of the last panel to be trimmed and fitted to the ceiling. If the ceiling has yet to be finished, then possible irregularities can be hidden during the installation process. Well, if the ceiling has already been decorated, the targets can be covered with a wooden baseboard.

Window and door openings can be another problem. For their finishing, it is necessary to use specially provided wooden platbands... They will hide backlash and cracks, as well as protect against drafts and moisture. Depending on the situation, the platbands are mounted using nails, self-tapping screws or glue.

Note: exist different variants platbands. They differ in shape and exterior decoration... For beautiful design window openings decorative trims are best suited.

Advantages:

  • Excellent appearance of the finishing material.
  • Additional noise and heat insulation of the building.
  • The ability to hide the wiring and other communications behind the panels of the block house.
  • Good stability and durability of such cladding.
  • Fast and intuitive styling process.

Disadvantages:

  • Not the lowest price on the panel.
  • The need for additional processing of all wooden parts.
  • Even after processing, the material is poorly flammable.

End of finishing.

After completing the main stage of installation of the house block, it can be varnished with different shades and thus betray the desired color range the interior.

If cracks are found, they should be sealed with a special wood-colored paste.

Exterior cladding of the building using wood block house panels.

This type of log house design is used when using profiled or glued beams during construction, to give it a more respectable look, as well as for additional protection of the log house from external influences.

The cladding process is practically no different from that which is used for the interior decoration of a building.

Note: under no circumstances use ordinary bunches and self-tapping screws, they will begin to rust under the influence of moisture and can cause wood to rot. During installation, only galvanized metal parts should be used.

Photo of the house sheathed block house. Well, isn't it a wonderful facade

A frame is mounted around the log house, on which the house block panels will subsequently be laid. The difference may lie in the use of polystyrene foam and construction film as insulation (to protect against wind and moisture). Also, the panels are subject to careful processing. special mixture, due to the constant impact on them of direct sun rays and seasonal temperature differences.

Tip: paint or varnish can be used as a protective material with the addition of various impurities that make the wood resistant.

With the exterior cladding of the block with a house, its layout looks very nice with the stone finish of the house.

To do this, after the lathing has been installed, the lower part of the house (about ¼ of the height of the first floor) is lined decorative bricks or natural stone. After that, the panels themselves are installed, while the integrity of the insulation is preserved (the brick is laid around the crate, leaving space for the insulation).

Look at the video for the exterior of the house sheathed block house:

Note: block house also looks very harmonious with siding. With skillful combination, amazing results can be achieved.

Advantages:

  • Decent exterior of the house.
  • Excellent protection against harmful factors.
  • A wide range of possibilities for combining with other methods of external design of the facade.

Disadvantages:

  • Wood in the open air with poor processing can quickly deteriorate under the influence of temperature and moisture.
  • The need to reprocess wood protective equipment every 5-6 years.

Types of block house:

Block house is mainly made from coniferous trees, less often from deciduous ones. There are two types of quality classification "A" and "B". For cladding a building, the use of a "B" class house block is not permissible, such products may contain many cracks (up to 25% of the entire surface).

There is another option for finishing the building, with the help of a metal block house that has appeared on the market not so long ago. In fact, this is a kind of siding panel, decorated in the style of a rounded log. Such a house block is devoid of all the drawbacks of a wooden counterpart and has a pretty good appearance, there is also a vinyl one (picture below)

It has a lower price (almost two times cheaper than the original), easy installation and good performance. Outwardly, it is practically indistinguishable from wood, and has excellent stability and durability.

Conclusion: building cladding with block house great option highlight your home and give it a non-repetitive look and style.
