Wallpapering walls and ceilings. Technology of wallpapering the ceiling and walls From the history of wallpapering the ceiling

Perhaps, there is little that causes such awe as wallpapering the ceiling. After all, the posture is uncomfortable, your hands get tired, and if you do something else and do the wrong thing, then this process simply turns into a nightmare.

Listen to the tips below, and then you can figure out how to wallpaper the ceiling with the least loss.

Preparatory work

All furniture must be removed from the room during repairs. If this is not possible, then move it to one corner and cover it with polyethylene.

You also need to consider a secure stand from which you can reach the ceiling.

First of all, we prepare wallpaper, glue and tools - a wide brush for applying glue, a roller for processing seams, a wallpaper brush and scissors.

We clean the surface of the ceiling from old decorative materials:

  • dye,
  • wallpaper,
  • whitewashing, etc.

Cut the wallpaper to the desired length, fold it seamy side up.

Apply the glue with a wide brush first to the middle of the canvas and then gently spread it over the entire surface. Make sure that the adhesive layer is even.

Carefully fold the oiled cloth with an accordion, making folds about 30 cm deep. The oiled side should not touch the front.

Leave the folded canvas for a few minutes to absorb the glue into the paper, which will make it more pliable. It is not worth delaying time, otherwise you run the risk of getting too soft a canvas that can tear.

When climbing a ladder or other support, bring scissors, a wallpaper brush, and a seam roller. You should have them in order to glue the wallpaper to the ceiling and smooth it out properly.

Choose work clothes for yourself, in which there are many pockets, then the roller and scissors will always be at hand.

Also bring along something to support the accordion to avoid tearing the belt. This can be a broom wrapped in polyethylene, a residual roll of wallpaper, a cardboard roller from under the packaging foil.

With one hand, hold the support roller and "accordion", with the other at this time, gently apply the upper section of the canvas to the ceiling surface, focusing on the drawn reference line.

Then press down firmly on this section and smooth it with a brush from the middle to the edges. Pay attention that there are no wrinkles or bubbles.

At the wall, press the edge of the wallpaper with the blunt side of the scissors into the corner, so you outline the cutting line. Then slightly take the canvas away from the surface of the ceiling and cut along the fracture you marked. This will create a clean, straight cut line.

When wallpapering the ceiling and meeting a chandelier on your way, make a cross-shaped cut in this place to avoid unevenness. Later, the chandelier cap will cover this notch.

This type of finish is usually used in place of the final leveling of the entire surface with a putty before painting, or to give the ceiling more architectural expression.

Pasting a surface with wallpaper is, at first glance, a simple and feasible business even for a non-professional. However, do not overestimate your capabilities, especially when you are dealing with new materials. For example, working with " liquid wallpaper"and with fiberglass it is better to entrust specialists. If this is not possible, choose other materials for finishing.

Glue wallpaper indoors without drafts, if closed windows and the vents. it will be possible to ventilate the room no earlier than in a day. Optimum temperature 18 ° C above zero. At a lower temperature, stains may appear on the wallpaper (they are due to uneven and too long drying), and at a higher temperature, the joints of the canvases may disperse.

Tools and equipment for wallpapering the ceiling

Prepare everything you need before starting work. For cutting rolls and applying glue, it is best to use a folding table, which when unfolded is about 3 m long.If this is not possible, take a regular kitchen table or place a piece of chipboard on the trestle.

Stock up on a large swinging paintbrush or a brush for applying glue and a stable ladder ladder (if you have a ceiling higher than 2m). smoothing and tight fit of joints, a knife, a plumb line and a level, a tape measure, a container for diluting glue, the glue for wallpaper itself, a sponge to remove its excess.

Work order

Think carefully about the plan according to which you will glue the wallpaper. Before proceeding with wallpapering the ceiling, it is necessary to unscrew the plugs in the electrical panel (turn off the machines) and remove the covers from the sockets and switches. Check if there is any residual voltage left in the outlets (turn on any device). Dowel sockets, small nails and screws that you will use after repairs should not be removed. In these places, the wallpaper is simply broken through and carefully smoothed. But it is better to remove large nails, screws and hooks for a while. To then find these holes, insert the small studs with the tip outward into them.

For achievement best result it is necessary to use the appropriate glue for the type of wallpaper that you are going to glue. When applying wallpaper, liquid glue can be left in the bucket if you use a brush, or poured into the roller trough if you use it.

Dry glue must first be diluted with water. It is better to mix the glue in a plastic bucket. The amount of water per unit of composition and the procedure for preparing the solution should be indicated on the package. Usually water is poured into the bucket room temperature, then create in a container using a mixer inserted into a drill or screwdriver, into which, without ceasing to stir, pour the dry mixture and leave it for a while (it is indicated on the package).

Be sure to mix the glue thoroughly so that there are no lumps. It is better to use glue right away. If it fails, store it in an airtight container for later use.

If there is a pattern on the wallpaper, then cutting the rolls of wallpaper (the panels are cut with scissors or a special knife for cutting wallpaper) should be done with particular care. Wallpaper with geometric patterns and abstract compositions is always popular, but it will be more difficult to combine such a pattern when gluing than a floral pattern.

The first panel is cut so that after gluing small area strips went to the wall. The first canvas is glued and only after that the next one is cut off so that the pattern matches.

If the drawing does not require alignment or the wallpaper is plain, you can cut several pieces at once. The location of the line to which the upper cut edge of the wallpaper will adjoin depends on how you are going to glue the wallpaper: with a border or without a border.

Pasting walls with wallpaper without a border

If the room has a cornice, then the wallpaper is glued close to its lower edge. Moreover, they start pasting the wallpaper after the ceiling and cornice are painted. If there is no cornice, and you are not going to glue the border, on the walls above, with the same paint as the ceiling is painted, a strip about 100 mm wide, reminiscent of the cornice, is taken away.

Pasting with border or frieze

From the broken line, to which the upper edge of the border or frieze will reach, measure a distance 5-10 mm less than the width of the border or frieze and beat off the second line. Then wallpaper is pasted along this line. When they are dry, proceed to the pasting of a border or frieze, which will cover the unevenness of the wallpaper sticker.

Marking the position of the wallpaper on the ceiling

Mark with a metrostat and a metal ruler. First, mark the location of the wallpaper rolls on the wall (near the ceiling). Then check the position of the upper and lower bubbles in the metrostat so that the level is exactly horizontal, press it against the ceiling and draw a line with a pencil towards the window.

Be extremely precise: even the slightest deviation from the horizontal when pasting the first piece of wallpaper can lead to significant distortions. To prevent them in the future, from time to time check the correct position of the stripes, especially after rounding the corners.

If the wallpaper has a border, it must be removed. The border on the wallpaper with perforation at the border of the border and the pattern is removed by sharply hitting the end of the roll along the edge of the table.

Having determined the place for gluing the first strip, cut a piece from the roll about 19 cm longer than the length of the ceiling. This is necessary to fit the wallpaper at the interface between the ceiling and the wall. If the wallpaper is fluffed at the cut, use scissors or a steel ruler to cut the strip. In other cases, the wallpaper should be folded along the marked line and cut off with a knife.

Now you need to spread the wallpaper with glue. Glue is applied to a piece of wallpaper in an even layer with brush strokes from the middle of the canvas to the edges. With such movements, the possibility of crushing the wallpaper and tearing its edges is excluded. Dip a brush into the glue halfway through the bristles and apply the glue over the entire surface of the wallpaper, leaving no empty spaces. Try not to get it on front side wallpaper or on a table or other surface on which you spread the wallpaper with glue. You can cover the table with paper. Not with newspapers, which can leave an imprint on the face of the wallpaper.

If you are using a table for spreading wallpaper, first spread one half of the strip, then lower it to the floor and spread the other. Try not to miss anything, especially around the perimeter. Thin wallpaper is spread once, and the glue can be cold, dense - twice with warm glue.

To better absorb the glue, the wallpaper is folded from bottom to middle, with coated surfaces inward, or like an accordion. Some craftsmen prefer to fold them so that the top of the folded wallpaper is 1/3 of the strip. The time required for impregnation is usually indicated on the packaging of the wallpaper.

Putting aside the missed strip (you can hang it on the back of a chair), in the same way, spread glue on the next piece. While it is soaking, the first strip can be glued on. Make sure that the "exposure" for all strips is the same, otherwise, due to uneven shrinkage of the panels, the carefully aligned pattern may diverge.

The canvas is brought to the wall, focusing on the markings, pressed to the surface with a dry brush or roller: first, moving from top to bottom in the middle of the strip, then from the middle to the edges. Your movements should not be strictly horizontal, but directed at a slight angle: upward for the upper half of the strip, downward for the lower half. It is very convenient to press the wallpaper against the wall using special brushes.

Air bubbles may form when wallpapering. To get rid of them, carefully peel the bottom of the strip where the crease has formed, from the wall and smooth out the wallpaper with a brush again. Finally, smooth the entire strip surface with strong horizontal brush or roller strokes.

After that, you need to check the quality of the glued edges and, if necessary, smear the non-glued places with a brush with glue and press them against the wall again. Excess glue or adhered to face surface drops of glue should be removed immediately with a soft damp sponge or dry cloth.

As soon as you are sure that the first strip has grabbed, you can proceed to the sticker next strip... It is very important to match the adjacent strips at the seams as closely as possible. The method of fitting depends both on the type of wallpaper and on where you stick it: on a flat ceiling or interfacing with a wall. Most often, wallpaper is glued end-to-end, and only when bending around corners or with strong shrinkage, the wallpaper is glued with a wide or narrow overlap.

There are three types of wallpaper bonding.

When connecting butt the adjacent edges of adjacent strips are pulled together until they are slightly pushed in at the junction. Since the wallpaper "shrinks" a little when the glue dries, these irregularities should be smoothed out. Such a connection is used when pasting flat sections of the wall.

When connecting with narrow overlap the stripe overlaps the neighboring one by no more than 3 mm, covering a small area of the pattern. This method it is used if a butt joint does not work, or when the wallpaper dries out so much that a gap is visible between adjacent stripes.

Connection with wide overlap(the strip overlaps the neighboring one by 10-20 mm) today they are used only in special cases, for example, when pasting corners, to correct the position of the wallpaper due to the fact that the ceiling is not absolutely even, as well as when gluing waterproof backing paper.

To fix the joints clearly, first lightly glue the new strip to the ceiling, about 5 mm from the previous one. Then move it to the already glued one, pressing your palms tightly to the wallpaper and not touching the edges so as not to stretch them. Match the pattern on the stripes at the same time. If the connection must be overlapped, the new strip should be overlapped from the very beginning, and then adjusted in the same way.

When overlapping laminated wallpaper, it is better to cut the edges of the strips under acute angle"on the mustache". This is done along the entire joint along dry wallpaper, or cut them already on the ceiling, drawing a sharp spatula along the center of the overlap. Pre-paint the ceiling at the junction with pale paint, and it will be almost invisible.

It is convenient to use a special roller for reliable fixation of the joint. Usually they are passed along the joints when the glue is already starting to dry. You can glue 4-5 strips, and then roll in the joints. Move the roller along the seam in short back and forth movements until the seam is completely locked.

The roller should not be used for pasting textured, fleecy wallpaper, metallized foil and other easily peeling coatings. You can use a soft sponge instead.

It is possible that no matter how hard you try, you will see bubbles on the already glued and smoothed strip of wallpaper. No need to panic: almost all bubbles can be removed by simply making a cruciform incision through which air will escape. Cover the inside of the cut and the ceiling under it with glue using a watercolor brush and glue the cut wallpaper to the ceiling again. Or you can use a syringe filled with glue: first, use it to pierce the bubble and, after that, as the air comes out, pump a little glue in its place and press the wallpaper firmly to the ceiling. It is necessary to deal with bubbles only after the wallpaper has dried: during the drying process, most of them, due to the shrinkage of the material, will disappear by themselves.

On a limited budget, one of the most economical options ceiling decoration is its decoration with ceiling wallpaper. Fortunately, the variety of choice of materials makes it possible to create interesting and original interiors even in conditions disabilities... Planning to make a quick and inexpensive refreshing redecorating, for many apartment owners, the stumbling block is the question of how to stick wallpaper on the ceiling. Let's look at the main points of this process, which is quite complicated at first glance.

Wall and ceiling wallpaper: what is the difference

On construction market ceiling wallpaper, how separate species do not emit. To decorate the ceiling, paintable wallpapers are mainly used, which have many textures.

Wallpaper designed for the ceiling has a two-layer and dense structure. In most cases, their surface is embossed, which allows them to easily hide minor flaws and minor defects in the ceiling. Compared to conventional wall wallpaper, ceiling wallpaper is more durable and thick.

Ceiling wallpaper can have a paper, fabric or synthetic backing. Paper and fabric, which are glued in two layers of canvases, are used to decorate dry living spaces. Non-woven wallpaper made of textile and cellulose fibers is ideal for kitchens and bathrooms.

Most often, manufacturers produce wallpapers designed for the ceiling in white and light colors.

Selection of the necessary materials

Arrangement of the flooring is one of the key points in preparation for work. You will walk on it, straightening and trimming the cuts of the rolls. If you plan to glue the wallpaper on the ceiling alone, then it is better to build a longer structure. When working in pairs, it is convenient to manage with two short decks.

It is easiest to use as a flooring dinner table... You can also build a structure from two ladders, between which they lay wide boards or scaffolding.

To glue the ceiling wallpaper, we also need:

  • wallpaper and glue;
  • roulette;
  • level;
  • long thread;
  • simple pencil;
  • scissors and a stationery knife;
  • container for mixing glue;
  • wide brush;
  • rubber wallpaper spatula;
  • dry rags.

In addition to scissors and a pencil, you need to purchase a brush for leveling the pasted wallpaper.

Surface preparation for gluing

Surface preparation - mandatory procedure, which should be approached with all responsibility. After all, the quality of adhesion of materials will directly depend on this.

Cleaning the ceiling from old coatings

Remove from the ceiling old whitewash you can use a spatula. It is great if it turns out to dry immediately clean the surface to zero. If the chalk is hard to scrape off, the area to be treated can be wetted.

An important point: just do not wet the entire ceiling, otherwise it will harden and it will be even harder to clean it.

You can make it easier to remove old wallpaper by saturating it. warm water... There are even special liquids on sale that can speed up the process of preparing the ceiling. Wet wallpaper will easily be removed if you pry it with a wide spatula or a regular knife.

A little more effort will have to be made to remove old paint... To take off the surface water-based paint, it is necessary to wet it abundantly with water and leave for half an hour with a wide open window. It will not be difficult to remove the "breathed" and exfoliated paint during this time with a wide spatula.

To get rid of small grains of chalk on an already cleaned surface, just walk on it with a wet brush

Removing dirt and rust stains

You can glue the wallpaper only on the ceiling, the surface of which is not "decorated" with traces of leaks and mold spots. Neglecting this rule, you should be prepared for the fact that the finish will not last even several months.

Get rid of rust stains you can wipe them with a 10% solution copper sulfate... There are two ways to eliminate the fungus: simply by knocking out the affected area of the surface or by treating it special means, which can be purchased at any hardware store. Wear protective goggles and gloves when handling chemicals.

Crack treatment

For larger cracks, it is best to use a starter filler. For this, large cracks are pre-expanded with a narrow spatula, and the resulting voids are filled with the composition.

After the putty has dried, the surface can only be leveled by rubbing with a fine-grained sandpaper.

Small cracks are easiest to wipe with a finishing plaster putty.

Base primer

It is not necessary to prime the walls before wallpapering. But by covering the surface with a primer, you can not only save time on cleaning the ceiling, but also greatly facilitate and speed up the process of wallpapering. The acrylic primer dries within an hour. It "breathes" and does not create a greenhouse effect.

Technology wallpaper stickers

The process of wallpapering the ceiling is not much different from wallpapering the walls. However, it has certain difficulties. If, when pasting walls, it is easy to get around and on their own, then when finishing the ceiling without an assistant it will be quite difficult.

Ceiling markings

If on the walls the wallpaper starts to be glued from the corner, then on the ceiling - in the direction of the incident light, that is, from the window, gradually moving towards the door of the room. This approach allows you to make the joints as invisible as possible.

The cloths are placed perpendicular to the window. If it is necessary to complete the decoration in a room without windows, then the panels are glued along the length of the ceiling.

Stretch the lace parallel to the walls and draw guide lines with a simple pencil.

Expert advice: to simplify the marking process, the lace can be pre-rubbed with colored chalk. The trace of the strip left by the lace on the ceiling will be the guideline for the placement of the panels.

To mark the ceiling with parallel lines between the walls, mark the distance from opposite sides equal to the width of the rolls

When calculating the length of the canvases corresponding to the length of the premises, add 1.5-2 cm on each side to overlap the walls.

Glue preparation

For different types wallpaper use appropriate types of glue. The heavier the wallpaper, the thicker the solution is required for them, ensuring their reliable fixation to the ceiling.

Dissolving the glue correctly is an important point in preparatory process... Indeed, the tenacity of the materials and the drying time depend on this. Dilute the adhesive with water strictly in the proportions indicated in the instructions for it.

Gluing panels

The strips of pre-cut rolls are laid face down on a clean, level surface. The glue is applied with a wide brush, carefully covering the entire area of the cut, and left to soak for 5-7 minutes. When decorating the ceiling with non-woven wallpaper, it is not required to apply glue to the panels themselves.

It is convenient to fold the glued strip like an "accordion" in wide folds of 30 cm. This will facilitate the process of gluing the panel in the future.

We gradually lay out the "accordion", controlling the direction relative to the intended line

With the wallpaper prepared, we climb onto the flooring, grabbing a rubber spatula, scissors and rags. We apply the edge of the strip to the ceiling.

Having aligned the strip, we press it more tightly to the ceiling. To get rid of the remaining air bubbles and excess glue, smooth the canvas rubber spatula from the middle to the edges. Applying subsequent canvases, Special attention pay attention to the alignment of the joints.

Video instruction, clearly describing the process:

When the canvases are dry, it remains only to cut off the excess pieces with a clerical knife on a spatula. After completion of work, you can safely attach ceiling plinth and enjoy the contemplation of the result.

For the process wallpapering you need a set of simple tools: a cord with a plumb line to control the vertical position of the canvas, scissors or a knife for trimming excess, a brush or brush or a paint roller for applying glue, a pressure roller or a wide spatula to smooth the wallpaper along the wall. It is a good idea to have a roller for processing corners and seams, with which the edges of the panels are pressed against the wall. Roll for wallpapering may be grooved, smooth, narrow.

Ideally, to remove old wallpaper, use special steaming machine, which soaks the wallpaper with steam, as a result of which it better lags behind the walls.

Surface preparation before wallpapering ... If the walls and ceilings were previously covered with wallpaper, there will be few problems. You just need to delete old layer by wetting it with warm water, to which you can add detergent or a 5-10% glue solution. If that doesn't work, use a special wallpaper remover. In extreme cases, the old coating will have to be sanded or perforated (holes made in it) so that water can penetrate inside. Perfect option- stick fresh wallpaper on the base from the previous ones. Many modern wallpaper are two-layer, so their coating is removed dry, without requiring moisture, and the base remains on the wall. To find out if the base is adhered well, try wetting it with water in several places, and then check for bubbles.

If the walls and ceilings are being papered for the first time, the surface must be pre-treated. It should become even (but slightly rough, dry, clean and chemically neutral. Peeling paint should be removed, cracks should be putty. It is best to apply a layer of primer to the surface, then the wallpaper will adhere more firmly and will not peel off the walls. For the same purpose, you can stick on the ground special paper, which is produced, like wallpaper, in the form of rolls.

The only contraindication for wallpapering is a damp surface. New settlers who move into newly built houses often face this problem. At first, it's a good idea to just wait until the walls and ceilings are dry (some estimates put plastered surfaces dry after six weeks). If the moisture persists, try priming the surfaces with a mild wallpaper glue solution.

Preparing wallpaper for pasting ... Nowadays, almost all wallpapers are produced without edges, so you don't need to cut anything around the edges. Pay attention to the marking symbols on the packaging of each roll (their decoding).

The preparation of the rolls consists in cutting them into strips corresponding to the height of the walls or the length of the ceiling in the room. If a pattern is to be joined, allowances must be provided.

The wallpaper is cut into panels, the length of which should be slightly greater than the height of the surface to be pasted. An allowance of about 10 cm will be sufficient, even if in some place the floor against the wall is slightly sloped. In addition, the height of the room is not always the same in all corners, and the ceiling will not always be completely flat.

Cutting the panel with scissors will take longer, and the edge of the wallpaper will not be as smooth as cutting with a straight edge with a sharp knife. After cutting the panels required for wall stickers, you can cut out pieces from the remaining roll the right sizes for pasting other, smaller in length sections of the surface pasted over with wallpaper.

Wallpapering the walls. The cut panels (about 10 pieces) are folded one on top of the other with a pattern downwards so that each subsequent panel is shifted in relation to the underlying one by about 10-20 mm. It is not recommended to stack more than 10 pieces one on top of the other, as their edges can become dirty when spreading glue.

When applying glue, you need to try so that it does not fall on the front side of the wallpaper. For this purpose, waste paper is placed under the lower wallpaper, and the stack is advanced with the longitudinal side to the very edge of the table.

Rice. 1. Operations for wallpapering: a - applying glue to the back side of the panel on the working aole; 6 - drawing a vertical line; c - gluing the surface at the border of the top of the wallpaper; d - folding the cloth for a toe-in; d - alignment of the edge of the panel with the top line of the bead; e - gluing the panel and aligning the side edge with the vertical line; g - smoothing and smoothing the wallpaper behind the battery; h - smoothing the glued panel

For high-quality attachment of wallpaper to the surface, you need to prepare glue (in accordance with the instructions of its manufacturer), evenly apply to the strip and let it soak. Glue is applied with a brush or roller, evenly distributing it over the surface, and this is done as follows: first, apply a strip of glue in the middle, then lubricate the elongated side of the panel and, finally, the edge that is closer to the worker.

There should be enough glue on the edges of the wallpaper. Therefore, it is recommended to lubricate them with brush movements along the panel, going over the edges of the wallpaper. After applying the glue, the paper becomes wavy and the edges of the wallpaper begin to curl. You can stick wallpaper on the wall only when all the irregularities on the sheet disappear and the panel becomes completely even.

The oiled panel must be folded with the smeared surface inward, laid on clean paper spread on the floor, and left to be impregnated with glue. The thicker the wallpaper, the longer it takes to saturate it. The saturation time of the glue for paper wallpaper (one- and two-layer) is approximately 5-7 minutes, for other types of wallpaper on paper backing(including with polymer coating) - 8-10 minutes.

Wallpaper on fabric and non-woven backing and fiberglass wallpaper is very easy to install: the glue must be applied directly to the wall, not to the canvas. In this case, the cloth does not need to be impregnated, they are hung dry. Non-woven wallpaper does not require impregnation. In this case, the adhesive is applied directly to the wall. It should be borne in mind that thin paper wallpaper they are quickly impregnated and become fragile, they can be torn when glued. Vinyl wallpaper and silk-screen printing should be properly saturated with glue, it is not recommended to bend them so as not to damage the upper decorative layer.

After spreading over, the textile wallpaper should not be folded. Ideally, the temperature in the room during pasting should be no lower than 10 ° C and no higher than 23 ° C, the relative humidity of the air should be no more than 70%.

Paste wallpaper in two ways : overlapping the edge of the adjacent panel (overlapping) or butt-to-edge, pushing the edges of the adjacent panels closely. If thick wallpaper is glued end-to-end, then it is necessary that the joint between the stripes is not visible. This requires careful preparation of the wallpaper and preliminary beating with chalk vertical lines on the wall along a plumb line.

The wallpaper starts from the corner of the room on the side of the wall with windows. Before sticking the first panel in the corner of the room, it is imperative to beat off the vertical line using a plumb line. The first panel is glued on it. The verticality of each next glued panel is checked by a plumb line. The obliquely glued panel will have to be ripped off and replaced with a new one.

Wallpapering is done together. One takes a folded moistened cloth with both crayfish, holding it between a large and forefinger so that it doesn't rip. Standing on the table, he unfolds the cloth and applies its upper edge to the wall. Another participant in the work, standing on the floor, supports the lower edge of the panel and helps to align the edge with the vertical line bounced off the wall. After that, the panel is lightly pressed against the base with your hands, and then the air bubbles are displaced with a brush with movements from top to bottom and from the axis to the edges. If glue comes out at the edge of the panel, wipe it off immediately with a clean cloth. Do not brush over the glue protruding from the seam, otherwise the wallpaper can become dirty. If glue is protruding from the seam, then too much has been applied.

When gluing wallpaper in the corners, the panel should go from one side to the other by no more than 3-5 cm. base so that they adhere tightly.

It is not worth sticking a whole canvas into a corner, since it almost never sticks tightly to both sides in this place, and after drying it lags behind and may fall off altogether. To avoid this, remember: the last panel in front of the corner should be of such width that it covers part of the wall to the corner, and the corner itself - somewhere by 2-3 cm. The remaining piece of panel is glued to the other side of the corner. If at the same time there is a small discrepancy in the picture, it usually remains unnoticed by anyone.

To prevent the wallpaper strip ending at the doorway from separating from the base, it is recommended to grease a strip of plaster with glue, and, if necessary, the edge of the casing, pasted over with wallpaper.

Above the window, the canvas pattern is disturbed. Some similar sized pieces left over from cutting will do. In addition, the wallpaper above the window opening is almost invisible, because it is covered with a curtain.

The problem with pasting is sockets and switches. ... Cutting the wallpaper around them is inconvenient, and it often turns out to be uneven. To avoid disappointment, first they temporarily turn off the electricity, and then remove the plastic covers that cover the inside of the switches and sockets. When the glue dries, all traces are completely hidden under the cover and you can turn on the electricity.

There should be no bubbles after the wallpaper dries, but if they appear, they can be removed using a conventional medical syringe filled with wallpaper glue. The paper is pierced with a needle, forming a bubble, and the contents of the syringe are injected under the wallpaper, after which they are smoothed.

Wallpapering ceilings ... For gluing ceilings they produce special wallpaper- light with a barely noticeable pattern or white.

Preparing the ceiling for pasting is done in the same way as preparing the walls. It is advisable to use an acrylic primer - with it, the wallpaper will form much better. The coating can be glued 2-3 hours after applying the primer.

The adhesive composition is chosen depending on the quality of the wallpaper. Pasting thick wallpaper is associated with additional difficulties, since even well-glued wallpaper on the ceiling can come off under its own weight. With this in mind, they are more practical for pasting ceilings. simple wallpaper overlapped with thicker glue.

Rice. 2. Pasting the ceiling with wallpaper by one worker: afolding the cloth; 6 - leveling wallpaper on the ceiling

Cloths of wallpaper are glued to the ceiling in the direction of the rays of light along the broken lines. If the room has two windows on adjacent walls, then the canvases can be directed towards the window that lets in much more light (for example, facing south), or they can be glued along the length of the ceiling. It is still better to put wallpaper on the ceiling not along the long side of the room, but across - so the panels are shorter and easier to deal with.

When gluing ceilings, wallpaper can be lowered onto the walls by 100-300 mm to form a visual cornice.

In a room with walls 2.7-3.0 m high, ceilings are first pasted over. At the same time, the canvases are cut 50-100mm longer and put on the wall. When pasting walls, these areas are pasted over with wallpaper.

In rooms with a height of more than 3.0 m, a frieze with a width of 200-300 mm is often left when wallpapering. In this case, the wallpaper on the ceiling is also glued with a transition to the wall, but the margin for this must be at least 250-350 mm on both sides (depending on the width of the frieze). Then the horizontal top line is beaten off on the wall in such a way that the wallpaper panels on the wall overlap the frieze wallpaper.

Ceilings are best done by three people. The smeared cloth is folded like an accordion and served to the two workers at the top. One of the workers applies the first third of the panel (approximately) to the ceiling, and the second unfolds and applies the remaining two-thirds.

It is necessary to glue the wallpaper on the ceiling exactly at the designated place and quickly, otherwise they may come off.

If necessary, the canvases are kept for some time at the ceiling surface with a mop, etc., wrapped in a clean cloth.

Air bubbles are removed from under the canvas with a brush, smoothing it from the middle to the edges.

If the wallpaper on the ceiling has to be glued alone, they are folded like an accordion and alternately pressed against the ceiling are areas bounded by folds. At the same time, they smooth the cloth with one hand, and with the other hold the rest, folded into an accordion.

Ceiling decoration is always given special attention, as it is open for viewing. Whitewashing, painting are standard solutions, and by decorating it with wallpaper, you can eventually create a spectacular, interesting design any room. How to properly glue wallpaper on the ceiling will be the topic of the publication.
Plasterboard, tension structures more and more included in the list finishing works, but not everyone can afford them for material reasons.
The low ceilings of old buildings do not allow taking away extra centimeters of room height for the installation of these structures. Decorate your ceiling with attractive ceiling wallpaper.
When comparing them with tension or suspended ones, there are pros and cons.

Benefits of wallpaper on the ceiling

  • Does not reduce the height of the room;
  • Low material cost;
  • Simplicity when wallpapering the ceiling, the process is slightly different from pasting walls, you can do it yourself with a partner.
  • This is a clean job done in a short time.
  • A fairly large assortment of colors, textures of the material, together with the wall decoration, will create the desired interior.

Disadvantages of wallpaper on the ceiling

  • Tapestries are not glued to it in rooms with a high percentage of humidity;
  • Preparation of the base for pasting is required - leveling, which does not need to be done with the suspended version.
  • The service life is not long enough (up to 5 years) if it is a domestic paper version, since during operation they collect dust, fatty particles, cannot be washed, painted.

Before you learn how to properly glue wallpaper on the ceiling, let's get acquainted with the types of ceiling wallpaper.

Ceiling Wallpaper Information

The concept of "ceiling wallpaper" is applicable only for material released in Russia under this name. In terms of structure, they are denser than wall ones and consist of two pressed paper sheets. They have a relief surface, various patterns, White color are not painted.
Foreign firms produce wallpapers that are applicable simultaneously for pasting walls and ceilings without delimiting the surface, which significantly expands the range of materials for stickers.

Wallpaper

These are non-woven, fiberglass, liquid, cork, paper, textile, and others. Their service life is longer, with the possibility of updating some of them skewed.

Preparing the ceiling for wallpapering

Wallpaper from the ceiling under the influence of gravity can peel off faster than from the wall base, so follow all recommendations, responsibly and correctly prepare the surface.
De-energize the premises during the work. The chandelier should be dismantled, the wires suitable for it should be insulated. This is a guarantee safe work when sticking.
The ceiling area should be prepared in about the same way as for painting, that is, be even, smooth, otherwise some types of trellises will repeat the irregularities, will not adhere well.

Briefly, the preparation looks like this:

  • Cleaning from the previous coating, removing whitewash;
  • Base primer;
  • Putty with starting putty for leveling differences, finishing layer;
  • Grinding the putty layer;
  • Primer before gluing.

The base is ready, it remains to cut the trellises to the size of the room. We take with a margin of 3-4 cm on both sides and cut out all the stripes at once. If it is necessary to adjust the drawing correctly, we do it at the bottom, so that at the top it remains only to glue them. On the back of the stripes, number them if they fit the pattern.
Considering how to properly glue wallpaper on the ceiling, pay attention to the quality of the adhesive. We select it depending on the type of wallpaper - paper, vinyl, non-woven, fiberglass, etc. The glue is diluted according to the instructions on the original packaging, but a little thicker.

In which direction to glue the wallpaper on the ceiling

It all depends on the configuration of the room, the presence of windows. It is necessary to strive to make the seams between the canvases less noticeable. Based on this, place the stripes parallel to the light rays.
It turns out that you need to glue from the window in the direction of the door, then the joining of the strips will be less noticeable. If there are two windows, gluing is done along long wall... Then the number of canvases is minimal, as are the joints.
With a large room length, so that the strips do not sag from the heavy weight, sometimes you have to glue across, then the length of the strip turns out to be less, it is easier to glue it.
Based on your situation. With modern adhesives, excellent performance wallpaper material, a well-prepared surface, the visibility of the joints is minimal.

Ceiling markings

Before sticking it is necessary to make a marking on the ceiling - to "beat off" the initial line from which the process of sticking will begin. The painter's thread, tinted for example with dry blue, is pulled between two marks on opposite walls.
The gap between the marks should be the same from the near wall to eliminate unevenness. Two people put the thread to the marks, pull it down and release it. A line will break off on the ceiling - this is the beginning of pasting.
Mark the entire area at once, with the first line receding from the wall at a distance slightly less than the width of the roll. Considering the process of how to properly glue wallpaper on the ceiling, each master adheres to his own technique, some start pasting from the middle of the room.
With any technology, glue masking tape on top of the resulting marking lines. The wallpaper joint will be located on it. The presence of tape will improve adhesion, which will make the seams less visible, and the seams will not come off.

Ceiling wallpaper technology

We proceed directly to the sticker. Empty the room so that nothing interferes with your work.
Prepare necessary tools and accessories:

  • Goat, table or stepladder;
  • Roulette, pencil;
  • Painting knife, wide spatula;
  • Dishes for the adhesive composition;
  • Brushes - large and smaller;
  • Plastic spatula, rubber roller;
  • Clean rags, sponge.

Depending on the base of the trellis, the glue is applied:

  • If a paper backing, then on the ceiling and canvases.
  • If non-woven, then only on the ceiling.
This is how we fold the canvases

We smear adhesive composition several stripes, fold them inside(where the glue is) like an accordion, we leave it for impregnation. No glue should get on the front side.
Together with your partner, lift them up, unfold them gradually, applying them to the marking line on which masking tape is glued. Press them first with your hands, smooth the canvas from the center to the edges.
After correctly fixing the blade along the marked line, you can complete the process with a plastic spatula, expelling the bubbles. If glue appears at the edges or if it gets on the front surface, remove with a sponge, cloth.

trimming surplus

We prepare the next canvas in the same way, apply it close to the first one, stick it in the above way and so on to the opposite wall. Additionally seal the seams by rolling with a rubber roller.
When you reach the place where the chandelier is fastened, then carefully cut the trellis in this place, bend it, and drag it through the wire hole. After that, glue the cut fragments. Return the chandelier to its place after the canvases have dried.
Trim the excess correctly - at the ends with a sharp knife on a putty knife attached to the strips. We met how to properly glue the wallpaper on the ceiling, we are waiting for them to dry when closed doors and windows, eliminating drafts.
