Double deck jet furnaces. How to make a rocket stove to heat your home

A rocket stove is a popular option when it comes to creating a do-it-yourself unit that can heat a room or become a kind of stove in field conditions... Drawings and diagrams of a similar design should be available from people who love tourism.

Collapse

It is not difficult to create a stove with your own hands - it will take a little time, suitable tools, materials that are resistant to open fire and strong heat. Such a stove has several features, differences that make the stove a profitable option for manufacturing.

A stationary camping rocket furnace is installed both indoors (cottages, country houses) along the wall, and on a special site, including in an open space. Suitable for high-quality heating of a room with an area of 45-50 m2 (taking into account the presence / absence of partitions, walls, separate rooms, ceiling height).

About construction

The Robinson rocket furnace consists of elements such as:

  • The firebox.
  • A pipe for evacuating the resulting smoke.

Design feature - the fuel hopper is located not only vertically, but also horizontally, at an angle. The method of placement depends on the desire of the person, the features of the structure in which the finished oven will be installed.

It looks like a rocket furnace from a pipe

Also, such an option can be used in which the fuel hopper will be located between the chimney and two elements of the horizontal section of the pipe. This is done in order to lengthen the surface heated during fuel combustion, thereby increasing the efficiency and heating time of the room.

Common schemes for creating furnaces have:

  • A firebox located vertically and connected to the chimney with a piece of pipe (its length may be different). The area connecting the elements is used for cooking ( hob).
  • A firebox located directly next to the pipe (the diagram is used in the case when the stove must act as a heating unit).
  • A firebox fixed at an angle to the pipe (for the convenience of storing fuel in a special compartment).

The stove can have two fireboxes at once. Feature - their location on the sides of the structure in an upright position. Pipes should be of large cross-sectional dimensions. The purpose of the oven is to heat a container with liquid, which is installed on a special support (this option is used to supply hot water).

Design options

General working principle

The principle of operation of all types of design - rockets is approximately the same:

  • Solid fuel (firewood) is put into the firebox.
  • Ignition is in progress.
  • Gases are generated during heating by flame and combustion.
  • Their movement begins along the vertical section of the pipe.
  • The supply is provided by a special channel through which "secondary air", which is already heated, moves quickly.
  • The heated gases rise to the base of the pipe.

The basic principle of operation is similar to pyrolysis boilers. As a result, the maximum possible temperature is reached at the exit from the furnace in the upper part of the structure. It is used for heating, heating water, cooking. For convenience, you can make a special platform for placing containers by attaching it to the upper part of the pipe.

A large and significant advantage for the user of a rocket stove is its efficiency - firewood, as well as other types of solid fuel, are consumed little, the efficiency is high (about 65%). In order to improve the quality of functioning, it is enough to throw sawdust, paper, branches or dry grass into the firebox.

The simplest version of the rocket furnace

A simple camping rocket-type furnace is lightweight self-made, saving time and resources during use, compact size and dimensions. All work will take 2-3 hours with the preparation of tools and materials, which is very convenient in a hike or summer cottage.

A design feature that must be taken into account is that the lower part of the unit, which plays the role of the bottom of the fuel chamber (grate), must be movable. This is done to facilitate the process of laying firewood and loading them into the furnace bunker.

If chips are used, the retractable structural element is comfortable stand in the process of loading fuel into the furnace. Additionally, the movable part greatly facilitates the process of cleaning the unit from ash.

Preparation of materials

To make a rocket furnace, you will need to purchase:

  • A pipe with a square section (15 cm × 15 cm × 3, 40.5 cm) - 1 pc.
  • Pipe also square shape(it is optimal to choose 15cm × 15cm × 3.30 cm) - 1 pc.
  • Steel strip (recommended dimensions 30cm × 5cm × 3mm) - you need to buy 4 such items.
  • Another version of a steel strip (with parameters ideal for work 14cm × 5cm × 3mm) - 2 pcs.
  • A grille, also made of good metal(steel) (choose sizes 30cm × 14cm) - 1 piece.

Additionally, you will need to buy a steel bar (3: 5 mm) - 2.5 meters in order to make the grating yourself if you wish. A high-quality do-it-yourself Robinson oven is minimum costs finance, a little attention and time.

Tools

For all necessary work will be required:

  • Bulgarian.
  • Welding.
  • Scissors for metal.

Drawing

Work is carried out according to the diagram and drawing indicated below:

Drawing of the simplest rocket furnace from a profile pipe

Manufacturing instruction

All work to create heating device should be carried out in stages. The guide to action consists of several steps that must be followed sequentially:

  • Square pipes must be cut into blanks of the required size according to the drawing.
  • Make markings on them, taking into account the fact that one of their edges will need to be cut off (the cut angle is 45 degrees). The work is carried out by a grinder.
  • The resulting pipes will need to be carefully welded - as a result, you should get a structure that resembles a boot.

When making a robinson oven with your own hands and using drawings, it is important to follow the recommendations for the size of the parts that are contained there. The next steps will be like this:

  • Cuts are made (on top of the pipe or on its sides) - the dimensions are 20 mm in depth and 3.5 mm in width (a stand for installing containers will be installed in them).
  • A steel strip (which has parameters 30cm × 5cm × 3mm) 1 of the purchased, must be cut exactly in half.
  • The second remaining strip of steel (also with parameters 30cm × 5cm × 3mm) mark exactly in the middle.
  • Weld to it for high-quality performance of all stages of work, the elements on both sides of the cut strip (you should get a cruciform shape).
  • Steel strips (the dimensions to be chosen are 30cm × 5cm × 3mm) - the remaining 2 pieces and the remaining pieces of 14 cm long, the frame is welded, which will be retractable.
  • Elements are not welded side by side, but overlapped.

On top of the finished frame, using the dot welding machine, a ready-made lattice (purchased additionally / specially) or pieces of a good steel rod cut to the required length are attached. The distance at which the parts are attached is 1 cm. Then, a stand is installed on top of the pipe, the grate is pushed into the combustion hopper. The main work on the production of the furnace can be considered completed.

The phase of validation and test behavior has begun. It is required to put some solid fuel in the firebox and melt the furnace, if no problems are identified in its operation, you need to wait until all structural elements have completely cooled down. Finally, painting work can be done on the oven to protect the parts from corrosion. For this, heat-resistant paint is used. You can increase the comfort of use by welding a handle to the door of the combustion chamber.

Robinson oven

The convenient and functional Robinson Rocket Stove is excellent option for use in a hike or in the country. It is also not difficult to make it using drawings and diagrams. With your own hands, you can easily create a unit that will be very similar to the factory one.

  • A section of a steel pipe with a thread - you need them for work 3 pcs.

Tools

  • Bulgarian.
  • Welding.
  • Marker.
  • Scissors for metal.

You should also have safety glasses and gloves.

Drawing

Do-it-yourself Robinson camping stove is assembled according to the following drawing:

Robinson furnace drawing

Step-by-step instruction

All basic work will require accuracy, attention, but will not take much time - about 3 hours with preparation. The basic steps involve the following steps:

  • Preparing the plate that will separate in finished structure the firebox from the blower - you will need to weld pieces of reinforcement to it (distance 1 cm from each element) - as a result, you get a grate.
  • For convenience, a grate is attached to the plate available in the number of materials for manufacturing, then, using a welding machine, you need to securely attach the obtained element to the side and rear wall of the future firebox. Feature of work: before starting welding, you need to step back from the bottom along the edge of 30 cm.
  • The next step in the work is welding corner pieces connections of the rear and side walls of the combustion chamber.
  • Then the bottom of the chamber is welded.

After these stages, you should proceed to the final steps. This is where actions such as attaching nuts are needed to keep the oven stable. Further, legs are attached to them, if desired. Then the actions are like this:

  • The firebox cover, if provided by the selected drawing option, is attached to the body (welding is used).
  • The next step is to mark the pipe (for this purpose, you will need to use a bright metal marker).
  • After that, a cut is made at an angle of 30 0 (a correct oval is obtained according to the outline).
  • Each of the obligatory pipes from the set of materials must be attached with an oval-shaped hole exactly to the middle of the roof of the structure.
  • You will need to circle the pipe (with a marker).
  • The resulting drawing is needed in order to cut a hole along its contour (the work is carried out using welding, the voltage may need to be increased).
  • Then a pipe is welded into the resulting hole, it must be positioned vertically according to the scheme.

At the end, the legs are attached (optional), the first test run is carried out (with a minimum of a solid fuel cell). If you want to paint the structure, then before that you need to completely cool the entire structure.

Improvement of the design

A convenient DIY Robinson camping stove, assembled according to the scheme, can be improved.

The first thing that can be done is to weld a door with a handle to the main structure in order to be able to control the amount of heat generated or the amount of firewood in the firebox. It will not open to the side, but up.

The best option is to manufacture a damper that will open in several positions:

  • down or left;
  • then to the right.

Such a damper must be installed in the corners welded to the walls in advance, the dimensions are chosen 1X1 cm or, as an option, to increase -1.5 cmX1.5 cm.

Additional methods for improving the Robinson furnace - increasing the thickness of the steel for the combustion chamber with 3 to 5 mm.

For an area where labor is vertical, a square hole can be used instead of an oval hole.

The stand and legs can be created from various materials using the most convenient options.

The last thing you can do: weld a wide metal plate to the firebox or attach metal corners to the pipe in order to put a container for water on them. Thus, you get a rocket oven with a hob.

Rocket stove with hob

Oven "Antoshka"

This popular version of the tourist-traveling type of oven will require a little more time to make it yourself. The rocket stove of the Antoshka model is distinguished by its convenient design. A feature of this type of furnace is the presence of an additional plane heated during the operation of the unit.

It is also a container holder (hob) and a room heating amplifier. Therefore, the Antoshka oven can be used to provide hot water country house or a tourist camp.

Materials (edit)

In order to make your own stove, you need to purchase the following set of materials:

  • Square pipes (with material parameters 15 cm × 15 cm × 3 mm. The length is also taken into account, which in this version should be 40.5 cm) - 1 pc and (15 cm × 15 cm × 3 mm, also the length of the element is 18 cm) - 1 pc and (10 cm × 10 cm × 3 mm, with a product length of 60.5 cm) - 1 pc.
  • Metal / steel plate (30cm × 15cm × 3mm) - 1 pc.
  • The plate is also made of good, heat-resistant metal (the parameters should be as follows - 15cm × 15cm × 3mm) -1 pc.
  • High-quality metal corner (5cm × 5cm × 3, length 30 cm) - 1 pc.
  • Metal corner bigger size(5cm × 5cm × 3, length 40.5cm) - 1 pc.

Additionally, you will need a reinforcement / rod with a diameter of 8 mm, the length of the material in this version is 30 cm - such rods will need to be purchased 4 pcs.

For the manufacture of the grate by own efforts, you will need reinforcement with a diameter of 8 mm, its length is 17 cm - 8 pieces. It is important not to forget to purchase triangular metal scarves, which will need to be used to install the hob, steel in them should be 3 mm - 2 pieces.

Tools

To carry out all the necessary work, you will need, as in the previous version:

  • Bulgarian.
  • Welding (for secure fastening of all elements).
  • Marker.
  • Metal scissors (for working with small elements).

You should also have safety glasses and gloves.

Manufacturing steps

To make the Antoshka oven, you need to do:

  • Mark the pipe existing in the materials (put it vertically).
  • Then make neat cuts on it, making them at an angle of 30 0.
  • Cut a hole in the back of the pipe intended for the firebox, the size of which is 12 × 10 cm.

The second part of the work:

  • It is also important not to forget to cut a hole in the lower part of the element, the size of which will increase slightly and will be 15 × 15 cm according to the drawing.
  • Next, you need to connect these two elements.
  • The rear wall of the firebox must be welded with a pre-prepared plate made of fire-resistant and high-quality steel.

After that, pieces of metal rods should be welded to the bottom hole of the Robinson rocket furnace variation from the outside. The distance at which the work is carried out is 1-1.2 cm.Further work involves the following actions:

  • For the manufacture of such a part of the heating unit as the blowing chamber (air intake), an 18 cm segment is used, which is part of a square pipe. Without it, the entire oven is not allowed to function for safety reasons.
  • On it, you need to make a cut at an angle of 30 0 (as a result, the size of this part of the structure is 10 × 18 cm).

The resulting part should have a bottom and two walls. It is best to put it on supports - this is how comfort is achieved for subsequent work. They are made from metal corners, attached by welding to the bottom of the structure.

  • The firebox of the future furnace (upper hole) - the pipe available in the complete set of materials is welded to it or otherwise attached (if there is no welding). It is important to fix it in a strictly vertical position. It is important to remember here that you need to be as careful as possible.
  • Triangular-shaped products made of metal (it is better not to save on quality here) must be placed on the edge, which will increase the stability of this part of the structure to create the necessary combination of elements.
  • They are then welded / attached to the pipe and additionally to the top of the structure.
  • The creation of the unit is continued by the fact that a plate measuring 3 dm × 1.5 dm × 3 mm is welded to the edge of the furnace hole, which is located at the top (in front of the master performing the work).

The final part of the creation: you need to weld the corners to the top of the vertically located pipe - this will be a stand on which a container is installed for cooking or heating food. The armature must be bent (90 0 - a semicircle), the resulting corners are welded to the pipe from four sides at a distance of 30 cm from each other.

Conclusion

The Robinson stove has different options for the manufacture of. It's not only a good option for heating small house or a tent camp in the conditions of a hike, but also a real hob capable of providing hot food. Additionally, using a hand-made Robinson oven, which has a holder for a container of water, you can provide hot water.

This device, in spite of our brave space achievements, is still little known in our country. And for sure, only a few are interested in how to make a rocket furnace with their own hands, because they do not understand the principle of its operation.

This is a relatively new word in the domestic heating environment, which came from Germany. The key to unprecedented popularity at home is a simple cheap design coupled with high efficiency and with the slightest absence of signs of soot. Considering that it is not difficult to make equipment on your own, we will tell you how to do it, give drawings, expert recommendations, videos and photos.

Principle of operation

Oddly enough, but the very name "rocket furnace" has nothing to do with either space or the actual rockets. The only analogy that can remotely recall this is a jet of flame that rises upward in mobile installations.

The design feature of the furnace is the presence of a bell, where the flue gases enter and where the final combustion of the sludge takes place. Under the hood, the temperature already within the first 2 hours rises to 1000 0 С, as a result of which everything burns without sediment, and the exhaust is formed only in the form of steam and carbon. In this case, the gases circulate freely through the channels without forced draft, which is usually created by the chimney.

This design makes it possible to use the stove not only for heating the room, but also for heating food or water (on a bell). If you run the chimney through a certain area of the room, right up to the lounger, it will also heat up.

Among the main advantages of rocket furnaces are the following:

  • high coefficient useful action - 85%;
  • very fast heating of the room - 50 sq.m. in 45-60 minutes;
  • the absence of soot and, as a result, soot deposits - at temperatures above 1000 degrees, everything burns out without a trace;
  • the ability to use any solid fuel;
  • minimum consumption - at the same temperature and duration of combustion, a rocket furnace consumes 4-5 times less fuel than a conventional furnace.

The simplest rocket works according to the direct combustion formula - these are mobile structures that are easily assembled in field conditions literally from scrap materials and are also easily dismantled.

The simplest design from a barrel or gas cylinder

If we are talking only about the first stages of self-manufacturing a rocket furnace (see video), then acquaintance should still start with the simplest design. Camping stove presented in the form of a bent pipe section, where the fuel chamber and ash pan are combined.

For fuel, a steel plate is welded to the bottom, at the bottom of which an air intake hole is cut.

Any straight cylindrical container can be used for manufacturing - the drawing of the rocket furnace shows how the process of direct combustion occurs.

Rocket brick oven in 20 minutes

If you have 20-30 bricks on hand, a simple rocket furnace can be made by hand in just a few minutes. Moreover, no adhesives are needed for masonry.

Lay out a brick, as shown in the photo, a vertical combustion chamber. In this case, the dishes are placed on the hood in such a way as not to impede the movement of the gases emitted.

Do-it-yourself rocket-type brick oven:

For this design to work well, you need warm pipe... This term among stove-makers means a preliminary run of chips and paper so that the pipe is heated. IN cold pipe there will be stagnation of gas, which will make heating difficult. And if the pipe is warm, then when the firewood is ignited, a powerful thrust appears in the channel.

For reference. In the above simplest designs from a gas cylinder or pipe, there is a significant drawback - vertical loading firewood. Each time you have to move the firewood into the chamber when it burns out and only then add it. Stationary rocket furnaces on coal or long burning already provide for vertical laying, which greatly simplifies operation.

Long burning rocket furnace

Photo 6 Construction of a stationary rocket furnace

Diagram of rocket rocket furnaces do it yourself

In order to make such a unit with your own hands, you need to decide on the dimensions and structural elements.

How the rocket works:

As can be seen from the drawing, the diameter of the cap (D), which covers the top of the pipe, and its cross-section (S) are taken as the basis.

Based on these indicators, the dimensions of the rocket furnace are calculated:

  • the height of the drum is 2 of its diameters;
  • the height of the clay coating - 2/3 of the height;
  • coating thickness - 1/3 of the diameter;
  • cross-sectional area of the pipe - 7% of its cross-section;
  • blower area - 1/2 of the pipe section;
  • the flame tube must be the same horizontally and vertically;
  • ash pan volume - 4-6% of the drum height;
  • cross-sectional area of the external chimney - double cross-section of the pipe.
  • the thickness of the insulating layer (adobe pillow) under the outer chimney is 60 mm;
  • the thickness of the coating of the bed is 1/4 of the drum diameter;
  • outer pipe height - 4000 mm;
  • the length of the flue directly depends on the diameter of the drum. If a metal container with a diameter of 50-60 cm and a volume of 200 liters was taken for its manufacture, then the length of the gas duct will be at least 6 meters. If the diameter is half as small, then the stove bench should be made up to 4 meters.

If you are making a do-it-yourself stationary rocket furnace, be sure to pay attention to the lining of the top of the pipe. This is necessary to isolate the brazier from the walls of the oven to prevent overheating of the walls. Fireclay bricks can be used for lining.

Photos of examples of original performance

It is noteworthy that not only the walls need protection, but also the lining itself. In order to protect it from combustible gases, you can create metal cladding and cover it with river sand. For this purpose, you can use any henchman metal object- barrel, bucket, galvanized.

Sand is poured into the bucket layer by layer, while each is poured abundantly with water for proper compaction. When the protection is filled with sand to the top, leave it for 7-10 days to dry.

The brazier lining is done much faster - by clay mortar fireclay brick is laid, and in the space between the latter and the wall it will also be necessary to fill it with sand in layers - with water and time to dry.

Pipe lining diagram

Everything further work on the installation of the rocket-type furnace of the reactive type, they continue only after not only the lining has dried, but also the clay protection, which is applied over the upper cut.

Before you do stationary structure, practice on a marching sample. After the first experience, it will become clear even if you have not read books for rocket furnaces.

Disadvantages of the heater

  1. Often this device is used to heat food or water - indeed, a huge amount of heat, a hot hat, why not use this idea? However, connecting the water circuit in order to heat the whole house, not the room, is not possible. The design is so simple that any intervention, including a coil, will disrupt the course of work.
  2. Surprisingly, such a lightweight mobile heating device is completely unsuitable for either a bathhouse or a garage. Even with its high efficiency, the marching unit will not heat the air in the steam room until the required minimum... And in a garage or warehouse, it is not recommended to use appliances with a direct open flame.

In this article, we will give an example of a marching installation, which does not require any masonry or finishing materials.

Necessary materials:

Step 1. Cut a hole in the sidewall of one of the buckets along the pipe diameter at a height of 5 cm from the bottom. The height should be enough to fill the bucket with rubble or sand.

Step 2. Divide the pipe into 2 parts - a short loading section and a pancake elbow-chimney.

Step 2. Insert the pipe into the hole in the bucket.

Step 4. Cut, by analogy with claim 1, a hole in the bucket, but already directly in the bottom. The hole diameter corresponds to the pipe diameter. Insert the pipe.

Step 5. Pour sand or gravel into the bucket, which will act as a heat accumulator for the flame tube.

Step 6. Making legs or stand. For this, ordinary reinforcement is suitable, which is bent under pressure and the base is cut out.

Rocket furnace from a gas cylinder

This is a complicated, improved version, for the manufacture of which you will need an already used gas bottle and rectangular tube 4 mm.

The scheme remains exactly the same with the only exception that combustible gases are discharged from the side through the hole, and not from the top, as is the case with traveling samples.

If there is a need to cook food or heat it, the upper part of the cylinder with a tap is cut off, and a flat plate is welded on top.

Video 2 Do-it-yourself rocket oven

The simplest and most convenient solutions are always very popular. Especially when it comes to heating facilities. So the rocket stove is ideal for use in a private house, since the craftsmen can design it themselves without draining the wallet much. Moreover, the rocket stove principle makes it possible to adapt to any home design, the same principle used in Korea and China to heat their homes in winter. The plus is that with this type of heating, firewood is spent much less than in a traditional Russian stove.

The operation of this oven is based on two basic principles:

  1. Direct combustion - the free flow of fuel gases through the furnace channels without being impelled by the draft created by the chimney.
  2. Afterburning flue gas released during wood burning (pyrolysis)

A rocket stove can be fired with secondary materials, tree scraps and almost everything potentially burning, since at the exit from the furnace, due to high combustion temperatures in the furnace itself, almost only carbon dioxide and water vapor are released. The long chimney ensures complete cooling, which can result in water escaping. At correct design of this furnace, the fuel should burn only in the lower part, gradually settling.

The simultaneous use of the rocket oven for cooking and heating the room makes it versatile.

Not so long ago, very compact portable Robinson ovens appeared on the market, designed for cooking in field conditions: hunting, fishing, in the country. No matter how much it costs, making it yourself is much cheaper: it will take several pieces of square pipe, a small piece of sheet steel for the blower door, rods for making legs and a grate. Everything is so simple that with a little experience in welding, it can be welded in a couple of hours. In the article we will publish the available drawings, show several options finished ovens indicating the sizes and materials used, we will post a video lesson on the principles of their construction. Based on these materials, you can make a Robinson oven with your own hands.

Rocket furnaces are attractive for their simplicity of design and economy. But, behind the seeming simplicity, there is an accurate calculation. It is very undesirable to deviate in size: everything will stop working altogether, or fuel combustion will be extremely inefficient.

General principles

The Robinson Portable Handheld Stove was made on the basis of a rocket heating stove. The same principle is applied: firewood burns in the bunker-fuel compartment, the fire, due to the air flow, enters the combustion zone - the horizontal section of the pipe and partially rises up the chimney. First, while the stove is not preheated, all the energy is spent on heating the chimney. Then, when it warms up, the gases from high temperatures ignite again, and secondary combustion of gases occurs. The modernized ones are arranged according to the same principle.

In the Robinson oven, everything is a little simpler: we do not need to heat the room. Its main task is to warm up water and cook food. But the principles remain the same: the fire must heat up the chimney, and its length must be enough to burn the gases. Therefore, for normal performance, adhere to the following proportions:

  • The length of the chimney must be at least 2 lengths of the horizontal (inclined) section.
  • The height of the fuel compartment is approximately equal to the length of the horizontal section. Therefore, in the Robinson stove, the firebox is made at an angle of 45 °, although the fuel compartment can be located at an angle of 90 °, but it is not very convenient to lay the fuel this way.
  • The section of the chimney should not be smaller sizes firebox.

Robinson furnace device: drawings and dimensions

Originally "Robinson" is welded from a profile pipe 150 * 100 mm. Homemade similar stoves are made from a pipe of a similar diameter. Sometimes the fuel compartment is placed from a piece of a profile pipe, and the chimney is made from a round one. In this case, it is important that the cross-section of the chimneys is not less than that of the firebox, otherwise back draft may occur.

Below we will lay out the drawings of the Robinson rocket furnace, indicating the most common dimensions: a profile pipe 150 * 150 mm, a firebox 30 cm long, a chimney of at least 60 cm.In general, with this size of a firebox, it can be up to 90 cm, but bearing in mind that it is all the same, a marching option, we indicate the minimum possible length.

Robinson rocket furnace drawing for DIY making drawings

The legs are made of a threaded rod, they are installed in place and tightened with nuts. This option is the most compact, but unscrewing / screwing the legs to the smoked iron is not the most best occupation. Alternative options supports: welded to the bottom steel sheet or stationary legs. They do not need to be screwed on, but they take up more space in the trunk.

In the case of the original Robinson stove, there is no combustion air duct and no cover to adjust the combustion. In self-made ones, there is an improvement: a plate is welded in the lower part of the fuel compartment, ending with a grate. The fuel is stacked on this plate. The slot at the bottom allows oxygen to be supplied directly to the combustion zone. To regulate the intensity of combustion, a flap cover is welded to the fuel compartment. In size, it is slightly wider than the fuel compartment (in the drawing 156.4 mm with a firebox width of 140 mm). It should not completely cover it - otherwise the fire will go out. They make it smaller in size than the firebox or build in a gate damper.

Do-it-yourself Robinson stove: two photos and three video options

Craftsmen make small camping rocket stoves from different pieces of metal. In the photo below you can see what happened - a finished Robinson oven, made by a craftsman from Penza. Three small sections of a profile pipe 160 * 160 mm were used, from which the combustion compartment was welded. Its total length was 40 cm. A single piece of pipe 120 * 120 mm 60 cm long was used for the chimney. In the firebox, the ash pan is cooked from sheet metal 8 mm and steel bar 12 mm. Instead of legs, a metal plate is welded: thickness 8 mm, dimensions 180 * 350 mm.

This is a ready-made Robinson oven and what the master cooked it from with his own hands (To increase the size of the picture, click on it with the left mouse button)

According to the author: a melted stove burns well, does not smoke and does not be capricious. Only before loading with "serious" fuel: branches and wood chips, it must be heated with paper, hay, dry grass or very thin branches. When the pipe warms up, you can lay thicker firewood.

Difficulties with kindling cold oven are generally characteristic of rocket furnaces. In this case, we also have a narrowed chimney, which makes kindling more problematic.

The second version of a homemade rocket-type camping stove - of two shaped pipes: 160 * 160 mm with a length of 30 cm for the firebox and 120 * 120 mm with a length of 60 cm for the chimney (it is better to take no smaller section - the draft will be better). For the ash pan, door and stand, 5 mm steel is used. The ash pan is cut in half the length of the firebox, 12 mm diameter reinforcing rods are added to the plate. The lid does not reach the ash pan plate by about 2 cm; instead of the handle, a large diameter nut is used. Base plate with dimensions 20 * 30 cm.

To make the dishes convenient to place and so that the smoke has somewhere to go, balls from the CV joint are welded at the corners of the pipe. This option turned out to be more convenient than the one proposed in the original (three rings welded together) - you can put dishes with a round bottom on such a stove - a cauldron, for example. These utensils are most often found in hunters and anglers, rather than flat-bottomed pots. The kettle is also getting great: three liters of water in it boils in 20 minutes. The heat is enough for both frying meat and other cooking tasks.

This is a video plot about two rocket stoves: the familiar already homemade Robinson and a mini-stove made from cans different diameters... This mini-stove works according to the same principle, but the dimensions are more than compact.

And this video story is for those who want to make a heating and cooking rocket stove. It is also made like a Robinson oven, but with a heat-insulated casing.

Ecology of Consumption Amid Diversity wood stoves special attention deserves a heat appliance like a homemade rocket oven. She is different original design, which does not require expensive materials and components in the manufacture.

Among the variety of wood-burning stoves, such a heating device as a home-made rocket stove deserves special attention. It is distinguished by its original design, which does not require expensive materials and components in the manufacture.

Any person can make such a stove, even in the slightest degree versed in drawings and able to work with his hands. Our article should come to the aid of such home craftsmen, where it will be told about the design and principle of operation of the furnace - the rocket. Here you will also be given recommendations on how to make it from various materials.

OPERATING PRINCIPLES OF THE ROCKET FURNACE

Although the rocket stove device is quite simple, it successfully uses two whole principles of operation, borrowed from other types of solid fuel heating devices:
- the principle of afterburning wood gases released during combustion (pyrolysis);
- the principle of free flow of gases through the channels (without induction from the natural draft of the chimney).

Note. In the simplest rocket ovens for cooking, including the portable type, only the second principle works, since no favorable conditions are created for the pyrolysis process in them.

First, we will analyze the device of direct combustion rocket furnaces, intended only for cooking food. Here a short horizontal section of the pipe serves as a firebox, which then turns upward. The design is outrageously simple

Fuel is put into the pipe and ignited, as a result of which an ascending stream of incandescent gases appears, tending to rise along the vertical section and go out. Here, at the cut of the pipe, a container for food or water is installed. Of course, a gap is provided between the pan and the pipe for the exit of combustion products. This is achieved through various metal supports.

For reference. The above rocket furnace device is one of the first. It is because of the upward-turned nozzle with the flame escaping from it, the device received the name of the rocket.

Since it is impossible to heat the premises with such a unit, the design of the rocket heating stove was supplemented with a heat exchanger and channels for removing flue gases. To keep the high temperature in the vertical section of the pipe, it is insulated with any refractory material. Further, for intensive heat extraction, the nozzle is covered from above with a cap, for example, a conventional metal barrel... At the bottom of the fire horizontal pipe a separate channel for supplying secondary air is made.

Now the principle of operation of the rocket furnace looks a little different. First, at the end of the horizontal firing channel, pyrolysis gases are burned out due to the supply of secondary air. Secondly, the combustion products, which have a high temperature, accumulate under the top of the bell (barrel), creating some excess pressure. As heat is transferred outward through the metal walls, these gases cool down and rush down.

Since the cooling gases are supported from below by a new hot stream, they cannot descend in the same way, but pass through the space between the walls of the pipe and barrel, safely leaving the chimney. The course of the processes is well reflected in the rocket furnace diagram.

So, thanks to pyrolysis, the efficiency of wood combustion increases, and the use of a free flow of gases creates a self-regulating system that restricts the flow fresh air into the firebox. The air mixture is supplied as the combustion products cool down under the bell, making room for a new portion of it. Excessive pressure of incandescent gases "pushes" the cooled part outward, therefore the operation of the stove depends little on the presence of draft in the chimney.

HEAT SELECTION EFFECT

The gases entering the chimney are still hot. It is inappropriate to just throw them out, everyone will understand that the efficiency of such an installation will be too low. Taking advantage of the fact that the rocket oven literally pushes the combustion products out, the craftsmen invented 2 ways of extracting heat:
- passing gases through the channels arranged under the bed;
- installing a water circuit on the stove.

A rocket furnace with a water circuit is made without a hood, the force of the upward flow of combustion products is used in a multi-pass heat exchanger made of metal. It is not recommended to introduce a coil with water into the gas flow, it will not last long due to too much high temperature... It would be more correct to make a water jacket with metal fins inside the flue.

Another way is to lay horizontal chimney channels out of bricks directly on the floor surface and arrange a chic heated adobe bed on top by connecting a rocket-type oven to it. Here, the correct selection of the length of the channels is important so that the excess pressure is enough to overcome them, in otherwise you still have to take care of the organization of natural cravings.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

Homemade long-burning rocket furnaces have many admirers, and for the following reasons:

Simplicity and low cost installation: to build such a heating device, you do not need to incur large costs for the purchase of expensive materials, fixtures and fittings. Experience in furnace business is also required minimal;

Self-regulation and undemanding to the natural draft of the chimney;

The efficiency of a furnace - rocket is a variable value and largely depends on the design, the main thing is to select as much as possible thermal energy near flue gases;

Fuel can be added on the fly.

Despite the attractiveness and simplicity of the unit, heating with a rocket furnace has its own negative points... It is a mistake to think that you can shove firewood of any quality into the firebox. Wet wood will not give required temperature in the chamber, the pyrolysis process will not proceed. In the worst case, smoke from the stove can rush into the room. Also, the "rocket" needs constant supervision, especially in terms of fire safety.

Self-made rocket stoves are of little use for a bath, since they give off relatively little heat in the infrared range, which is very important for a steam room. The heat-emitting surfaces of the stove are too small and it will not be possible to heat the bath properly.
For reference. A factory-made Robinson metal rocket furnace is often used as a portable heat source. Craftsmen did not get confused even here and quickly modernized this product, making the same thing, only with a grate.

BALLOON OVEN

This is one of the most simple options, for its implementation, you can use the drawing below. A propane cylinder with a diameter of 300 mm will serve as an excellent cap, and a 150 mm steel pipe will play the role of a firebox and a loading hopper. The inner vertical channel is made from a pipe with a diameter of 70 mm, and the chimney is 100 mm

The construction is fully welded, the pipes are cut to the required length, and the upper part of the cylinder is cut off. Then the parts are welded according to the drawings, only the opening between vertical pipes with a diameter of 70 and 150 mm is filled with bulk thermal insulation material... Perlite or vermiculite can act as such, in extreme cases - ordinary sand.
If there is an opportunity and desire to make a more powerful rocket furnace, then a standard 200 liter barrel is used as a cap, then the dimensions of all parts also increase. Working inner tube is taken with a diameter of 129 mm (or profile 120 x 120 mm), and the outer one is 450 mm in size. It is difficult to find a pipe of this diameter, so they usually find another barrel of smaller capacity and cut off the bottom of it.

The entire rocket furnace from a gas cylinder assembly is not very heavy, so you do not need to arrange a massive foundation for it. When the unit is placed on the floor, the legs are welded to it, and if a stove bench is subsequently planned, then the structure will have to be coated with a refractory compound, and then the outer lining will be made. Then basalt cardboard and a sheet of roofing iron are laid on the floor from below.

BRICK STOVE

In terms of its design, a brick rocket furnace is not much different from a metal one, but it requires a lot of labor. The difference is that all the firing channels of the unit are made from fireclay bricks, and the cap is all made from the same barrel.

The entire structure, except for the protruding hood, is recommended to be lowered below the floor level, for which a shallow hole is dug. Its bottom is compacted, and then a small concrete foundation 100 mm thick. After it has solidified, masonry begins using a solution of refractory clay. After the end of the masonry and the solution has hardened, the pit is filled up, and on top of the fire channel is put on iron barrel without a bottom, the cavity between it and the brick is covered with insulation.
For all its advantages, a do-it-yourself rocket stove cannot serve as a full-fledged source of heat to heat an entire house. It makes sense to start such a construction when it is necessary to organize heating small cottage or another similar building, especially since the "rocket" is not afraid of periodic work. published
