Overhead sinks for the kitchen: specifics, installation and dimensions. Attaching the sink to the cabinet: a few simple ways

The decor in the bathroom should be stylish, combined with the overall interior of the room. Each element should provide convenience, comfort, this applies to the washbasin. This element is the main one, so you need to approach its arrangement very carefully. Installing a sink with a cabinet in the bathroom does not take too much time, and this element looks very attractive. In addition, now there is a huge variety of cabinets in color, size, style, which will fit perfectly into the design of the room and fit any size of the room.

The washbasin with the cabinet has been selected, now you need to choose a suitable place in the bathroom for its installation. Be sure to consider the dimensions, the product must fit exactly into its place. It would be nice to put it near the bath, it will provide ease of use.

It is better to select the area for the installation of pedestals before work begins on the wiring of communications and pipes.

  • measurements of the bathroom room are made, divided into sections;
  • think over where the location of the bathroom, shower, sink should be;
  • be sure to consider the presence of shelves, drawers. They can become an obstacle for bringing pipes and fittings to connect water to the mixer. It is better to provide for this option earlier, move the shelves so that they do not interfere with plumbing fixtures. You may need to cut it a little, but do it carefully, do not damage the structure of the furniture, do not spoil it appearance;
  • in cases where the sewerage system is out of floor covering, and in this zone it is planned to install a cabinet, then in this case everything is simple. In order for the product to fit into the place, not to violate the sewer elements, its bottom must be cut. Necessarily after trimming the bottom, the edges are treated with a protective base.

How is the installation

The washbasin for the cabinets has been selected, the place has been prepared, we proceed to the installation itself. Usually this piece of furniture is sold together with the necessary fasteners, connecting elements, and sometimes comes with the right tools for assembly, installation. There is a diagram or instructions for installation. But it is unlikely that you will have to use a diagram or instructions, usually the design is so simple that you can install it yourself. And if you don’t need to cut, file for plumbing, communications, then it will take a maximum of 1-2 hours.

Pay attention to the quality of accessories

Mixer installation rules

Before you start installing the cabinets, you should put the mixer and siphon:

  • an instruction with an installation diagram should be attached to the mixer, with the help of which this process will become much easier. The kit should include - a few studs, two washers (made of rubber and moon-shaped), a round gasket for the bottom;
  • two hoses must be screwed to the mixer, designed for hot and cold water. The choice of hoses should be approached very carefully, rubber hoses have low strength and often tear and leak. The best option there will be products made of metal-plastic material. Do not tighten too much, otherwise the gaskets will be damaged and the connection will leak;

Hot and cold water connection

  • studs are fixed in small holes at the bottom of the mixer;
  • install the gasket and insert the faucet into the hole in the sink. And from the bottom side, you need to put a moon-shaped washer on the studs, a rubber washer is placed on top of it;
  • washers are secured with nuts. The nuts are installed on the studs and tightened well so that the faucet stands steadily on the sink. Some mixers are fixed with a large nut on the underside for greater reliability;
  • after that, proceed to the installation of the siphon. First of all, we check all the details of the siphon, perhaps they have burrs. If they are, then they should be carefully cut. Otherwise, after installation, gaps will form at the joints, through which unpleasant odors will pass in the future;

Connecting a siphon to a drain

  • on the drain hole we put an overlay with holes, insert a long screw into the center;
  • under drainer a receiving type branch pipe with a rubber seal is installed;
  • the lining and the nozzle should be fastened with a screw. We tighten the screw as tightly as possible so that the pipe fits snugly enough against the sink;
  • the remaining part is assembled after assembling the cabinets, installing the sink. A coupling nut with a conical gasket should be put on the branch pipe. We twist the upper part, fix the lid from the siphon.

Installing a sink with a cabinet in the bathroom is not difficult on your own, if you listen to some recommendations:

  • First of all, we start assembling the cabinets. Usually they should be accompanied by instructions to facilitate the work, but they are unlikely to come in handy. This process is quite simple. The main thing is to make sure that the screws, fasteners are firmly fixed. After installing the cabinet under the sink, this will be difficult to implement;

Scheme of assembly cabinets under the washbasin

  • once the cabinet is assembled, we proceed to the arrangement of the sink. It is in its appearance, functions no different from those sold separately, just the washbasin is made to fit the bedside table and is used to complete it;
  • we connect the siphon to the drain;

The siphon is installed by screwing it to the washbasin drain

  • We put the sink with the faucet already installed on it on the cabinet. Usually, metal corners are used to fasten these elements;
  • we move the washbasin and cabinet closer to the place where these elements are planned to be installed;

A sink with a siphon and a mixer is placed on a cabinet and moved up to the wall

  • on the surface of the wall, points for bolts should already be marked, on which the washbasin should then be fixed. Marking is done independently. For greater accuracy, it is better to bring the washbasin to the wall, accurately measure the points. With the help of a tape measure, it will still not be possible to achieve the desired accuracy;

Marking on the wall for a future cabinet

  • we take the washbasin with the cabinet back and make drilling at the marked points;
  • after the holes are made, the bolts that come with the product should be inserted into them. When buying a product, be sure to check the availability of these elements, sometimes sellers simply forget to put them. And so that you do not have to buy them separately, see their availability;
  • now you need to install the sink and cabinet in place, screw everything with bolts;
  • check how the sink and cabinet stand. If everything is stable, does not stagger, the product stands tightly to the wall surface, then everything is done correctly;

Sink cabinet installation process

  • at the end we connect the sewer. Mixer hoses must be connected to pipes with cold and hot water. The hoses are connected with a union nut and a rubber base gasket;
  • then we seal the holes, connections. Sealing must be done necessarily, this will help to avoid unforeseen leaks;
  • at the end, the siphon is connected to sewer pipe. In order to seal all kinds of holes, you need to use a special rubber gasket or corrugated cuff;

Installing the sink on the cabinet - the final stage of work

  • it is important that before you start using the washbasin, it is better to check it for leaks, if there are none, then you can safely proceed to its operation.

What to do if there are no mounting holes on the cabinet

Sometimes products may not have holes for wall mounting. Basically, this problem is often found in Turkish-made cabinets. Some consumers believe that it is rather difficult to fix this product to the wall in the bathroom and try not to purchase designs.

But what to do when the product has already been purchased? Many people think that you can refuse and return to the seller. Yes, of course, this can be done, but not always. The product may not be accepted, they will find many reasons for this. And if it is damaged and there are defects on it, then it will definitely not be accepted back. If, of course, you want to waste time, nerves, then you can try. As a result, maybe they will make a replacement for a cabinet with holes. And if it does not work out, then you can try to put the structure without holes.

It can be installed using a simple method:

  • ordinary silicone is used as a fastener instead of bolts;
  • due to the fact that the design rests on the cabinet, it will firmly adhere to the silicone mixture;
  • it is important that the wall surface is strong, and its coating is made of high-quality tiles;
  • in this case, it is not necessary to drill the surface of the walls, leaving them in strength and good condition. And the appearance of the design will remain in perfect condition.

Silicone sink attachment

Installing a cabinet with silicone is suitable for those who do not want to spoil their bathroom wall covering, especially if it has a low strength. In addition, this installation method is much faster than using bolts and drilling.

Installing a washbasin with a bathroom cabinet is a simple process that does not require much work and knowledge. You can do everything yourself, without resorting to the help of professionals. The main thing is to choose a suitable design and correctly calculate the place for its installation. With this approach, you can get a comfortable, stylish, functional room.

Overhead sinks are the most popular design of kitchen sinks. Affordability and ease of installation form a high demand for overhead construction in the kitchen furniture market.

Overhead kitchen sinks got their name due to the installation method. The sink is superimposed on the kitchen cabinet from above and closes it instead of the countertop.

The overhead sink is table top with bowl made from of stainless steel.

The operation of the overhead sink is impossible without the kitchen cabinet on which it is installed. Therefore, the sink and the supporting cabinet represent a single structure in the kitchen interior.

All overhead sinks on three sides (on the sides and in front) are equipped with sides for mounting on the pedestal. The rear side of the overlay structure adjacent to the wall does not have a side, but there is a raised edge to prevent water from draining to the floor (between the wall and the sink).

The shape of the sink in the overhead sink is most often rectangular with rounded edges. Smoothing right angles makes cleaning easier inner surface shells. It is possible that the sink will be provided with two bowls - main and additional.

In addition to the sink, the design may include a countertop, monolithically connected to the bowl. It is designed for storing wet dishes, as well as for laying out fruits and vegetables after washing. The surface of the metal countertop is made in the form of small protrusions and depressions so that dishes or food do not roll back into the sink. It can be located both to the right and to the left of the bowl.

Overhead sink mounted on cabinet

An emergency drain can be provided in the back wall of the sink recess (in case the bowl overflows with water). When installing, the side hole is connected to the main drain. Often the bowl is supplied with a grate for sifting out large food residues, installed in the drain hole. Such a piece provides two functions: it prevents clogging of the drain pipe with leftover food and can close the sink hole as a plug.

Cabinet under the sink presents a special furniture design, in which there is no back wall (for connecting the siphon with drain pipe) and no shelves. Often the cabinet space is used to store auxiliary tools: a trash can, a floor bucket with a rag, empty cans, old pots. The front is closed with doors, its outer surface can look like any desired material: light or dark wood, marble.

Advantages and disadvantages of the overhead sink design

describe dignity stainless steel overhead sink can be a combination of four main functions: it works for a long time, it is easy to install, it looks normal and it is inexpensive.

  1. Availability in price. These are the cheapest sinks on the market.
  2. Ease of installation. The assembly of the sink consists in laying it on top of the cabinet and fixing the assembled structure with self-tapping screws.
  3. Sufficient service life. The overlays are resistant to water corrosion, so the sink lasts for many years without the need for painting or derusting.
  4. Aesthetic look. The shiny surface of the metal is easily cleaned of grease, while it does not require special expensive cleaning products (such as marble).

Flaws overhead structures are manifested in the case of cost savings and the purchase of a sink with thin walls(up to 1 mm). These sinks:

  • prone to dents;
  • do not hold the mixer well;
  • make a lot of noise when the water jet falls.

In general, increased noise production is typical for all metal sinks, regardless of the type of construction (consignment note or mortise). It can be significantly reduced by purchasing a sink with a normal metal thickness (1 mm).

Sometimes overhead structures are subject to claims of lack of diversity and design decoration shells. Indeed, overhead sinks are standard and are available in several of the most popular sizes. However, such an accusation is not relevant and is not a disadvantage. The fact is that this species kitchen equipment(due to affordability) does not claim to design an expensive arrangement of the kitchen.

Overhead sink dimensions

The dimensions of the overlapping sinks are standardized to the dimensions of the perimeter of the produced kitchen cabinets. The most common size of an overhead sink is 50x60 cm. Overhead sinks (and, accordingly, cabinets) are most often used in sizes of 50, 60 and 80 cm in various variations.

  • 50×50 cm;
  • 50×60 cm;
  • 60×60 cm;
  • 50×80 cm;
  • 60×80 cm.

Washing width may be 50 or 60 cm (sometimes 55 cm), the size of 80 cm will be too wide and inconvenient to use (you will have to reach for the tap). Wash length varies over wide sizes and depends on the presence of a monolithic countertop. If there is a table for dishes, then the length of the sink reaches 80 cm, if there is only a bowl, the length of the sink will be 50 or 60 cm.

bowl depth can be 16, 18 and 19 cm, while 19 cm will be more convenient for washing, since the walls of the sink will better restrict water from splashing onto walls and clothes.

Double bowl overhead sink

How to properly install a countertop sink? The installation of the overhead sink is carried out in two stages: first, the support cabinet is assembled, then the sink is mounted on it.

How to install an overhead sink on a cabinet (video):

Like any cabinet furniture, the sink cabinet is delivered unassembled after purchase. The package contains cabinet walls and fasteners (corners and self-tapping screws). The body parts of the pedestal are rectangles cut from a chipboard sheet of the required dimensions with machined edges:

  • two sides;
  • three tsargi (transverse sticks that ensure the rigidity of the structure);
  • two doors;
  • fittings (four hinges and a door handle).

Drawers are located between the side panels in the following places:

  • front bottom (under the bottom);
  • front top (under the sink);
  • back in the middle.

To assemble the cabinet, you will need a screwdriver. The details of the cabinet are assembled using metal corners and self-tapping screws. Sequencing next:

  1. Dismantle the packaging, remove the packing material and lay the parts on the floor.
  2. We assemble the sidewalls and the front sides: first the lower, then the upper sidewalls are fastened to each sidewall at the corners.
  3. We collect the bottom in such a way that its edge lies on top of the lower front side. The bottom is attached to each sidewall and to the lower front side.
  4. We install the back tsargu.

Further installation of the cabinet will consist in hanging the doors. It is performed after installing the sink on top of the cabinet.

Attaching a countertop sink to a pedestal

  1. The sink is turned upside down and smeared silicone sealant around the perimeter, where the sink will rest on the walls of the cabinet.
  2. A rubber gasket is placed on top of the sealant. Next, a second layer of sealant is applied.
  3. The sink is turned over and put on the side walls and the front top drawer side.
  4. From the inside, the sink is screwed with self-tapping screws: through the surface of the side walls from the side inner space pedestals.

The final installation consists in connecting the water supply and hanging the doors on the cabinet. Flexible connecting hoses make it possible to slightly move the sink away from the wall (for ease of installation). The drain is connected to the drain pipe with a flexible corrugated hose. Connection to hot and cold water pipes can be done in two ways:

  1. Special flexible braided hoses.
  2. flexible metal-plastic pipe the corresponding diameter.

The metal-plastic connection is more reliable and durable than the use of flexible hoses.

To evenly hang the doors on the kitchen cabinet, the hinges are first screwed directly to the door, then the door is applied to the sidewall and the locations of the hinges and their holes on the sidewalls are marked with chalk. Then the doors are screwed in turn, applying them to the sidewall and controlling the coincidence of the drawn arrangement of the hinges.

After installation, you can evaluate the convenience of using the finished kitchen furniture. With an affordable affordable price (let's rate it at 5 points on a five-point system), the overhead sink is very practical. It is easy to mount, if necessary, disassemble and rearrange to another place (5 points for practicality and functionality of use). The comfort of the sink loses a little, as water can flow between the sink and the back wall, or between the side of the sink and the table next to it. In such cases, it will be necessary to control the presence of water under the sink on the floor, which is especially inconvenient to check in the gaps between the sides of the sink and adjacent kitchen furniture (grade 4, in some installations the quality of comfort is average, grade 3). Reliability in operation of the overhead sink is sufficient, rating 5.

The most difficult thing is to evaluate the appearance of the overhead sink. If compared with marble, the evaluation of the exterior design of a metal sink will be low - 3 points. In comparison, overheads lose in design not so much and can get 4 points.

Corner sink with original design

Among various characteristics and features of installation and operation of overhead sinks, the advantages prevail over the disadvantages. The popularity of the overhead design indicates its significant (for the majority of the population) advantages and not so significant disadvantages, so buying an overhead kitchen sink is optimal solution for the average family. Therefore, overhead models are sinks No. 1 in a row.

- same required attribute like a refrigerator, stove or table. The importance of this equipment is not worth proving, but choosing the right one and correctly installing it is a simple task only in appearance. First, there are certain requirements for external data and technical specifications. Secondly, there are certain installation nuances, the observance of which will make washing dishes and products convenient and comfortable.

Overhead sink looks beautiful in the kitchen

What is the ideal sink? It is large enough to handle large dishes comfortably. She endures high temperature and accidental mechanical damage, easily tolerates interaction with household chemicals. What is no less important - the appearance of the product remains for a long time, regardless of the intensity of use.

Dealing with the requirements is not so difficult. They follow logically from its purpose. The task for an amateur designer will be to decide on the type of sink in order to acquire a beautiful decorative element along with functionality.

Tip: you need to start choosing a sink after approving the design of the kitchen. This ensures that the sink will fit into the overall interior and will be not only beautiful and practical, but also a harmonious attribute in the kitchen.

Kitchens can be overhead and mortise. The difference lies in the installation method. Overhead put on a special pedestal, for the installation of mortise in the countertop, a hole is cut out.

Characteristics of overhead sinks

The overhead stainless steel kitchen sink is a tandem of a sink and a kitchen cabinet. The sink is made of sheet metal. Stainless steel - perfect option, as it easily copes with an aggressive environment (a combination of constant moisture and household chemicals). without back wall and shelves. Despite the lack of shelves, the underframe for washing has practical use and is used to store household items.

Overhead sink in the kitchen is most often square in shape. The dimensions of the side walls are standard - from 40 to 60 centimeters. Depth from 15 to 20 centimeters. Three side walls have rounded edges for ease of installation, the fourth - the back - is slightly higher to prevent moisture from penetrating between the sink and the wall.

Despite the apparent simplicity of the design, invoices may have additional elements. For example, a second sink (smaller or the same size) is very convenient for rinsing dishes or food. A special ribbed drying surface adds to the pluses of a countertop sink.

The product is sold both separately and in a set with a curbstone. It is better to prefer the second option. A sink with a stand will eliminate the need to look for a cabinet that is suitable in size.

The surface can be matte or glossy. The matte version is more practical, as it hides muddy stains and pollution is less noticeable.

The main advantage of the overhead option is ease of installation.

The sink looks like a single unit with a headset

Overlay model installation rules

Installation is carried out in two stages:

  1. Cabinet assembly.
  2. Sink installation.

Cabinet assembly

The cabinet is cabinet furniture and, accordingly, is delivered unassembled. Therefore, the do-it-yourself cabinet for washing is already assembled by the owner at home, which is not particularly difficult. The kit includes:

  • Side walls - 2 pcs.,
  • The bottom of the structure - 1 pc.,
  • Frame to ensure rigidity - 3 pcs.,
  • Doors - 2 pcs.,
  • Accessories - hinges (4 pcs.) And handles (2 pcs.).
  • Fasteners - corners, self-tapping screws.

Required tool: screwdriver.

Cabinet Assembly Instructions:

  1. Connect the side walls and front frames with corners and self-tapping screws. One frame is attached to the side walls from above, the second - from below.
  2. Connect the resulting structure to the bottom of the cabinet. The front edge of the bottom rests on top of the bottom frame.
  3. Install the rear frame: fasten with corners to the side walls in the middle.

The cabinet doors are mounted after the sink is installed!

The cabinet must always be the right size

Sink installation

You can attach a stainless steel sink to the cabinet using:

In the first case, it is possible to install a stainless steel sink on a pedestal only with the help of a sealant, but the reliability of fastening is questionable. The sealant is applied to the edges of the cabinet, a sink is installed on top. Although the sealant combines the functions of glue and protective composition, but the sink must withstand significant weight loads. Therefore, it is better to use more serious methods of fastening or to strengthen the bottom. wooden beams(crate).

Attaching the sink to the cabinet with mounting foam is very simple. It is applied to the edges of the side and front walls, wait 10 minutes, then the sink is put on. The foam dries, the excess (what has gone beyond the edges) is cut off. Foam has great adhesive power, but the sink, in fact, lies only on the walls of the cabinet. The reliability of the design is questionable.

Overhead sinkinstalled with mixer and siphon already attached to it. After that, it will be difficult.

If the kit includes a mount for an overhead sink, then its installation will be more reliable and of high quality. It may take a little more time to install the sink on the cabinet using self-tapping screws and special fasteners (brackets), but it will be durable and strong.

  1. Mark with a pencil the places where fasteners - brackets will be placed.
  2. Screw in the screws in the marked places (not to the stop).
  3. Fix the brackets on the screws.
  4. Install the overhead sink into the grooves of the brackets.
  5. Check if the sink is lying flat.
  6. Remove sink. Apply sealant to the top edges of the cabinet side walls.
  7. Insert the sink into the grooves of the brackets.
  8. Screw in the screws until it stops.

Tip: To connect water, it is better to use reliable and durable flexible pipes from metal-plastic.

For a sliding method can be used. In this case, the cabinet is equipped with guides, and the overhead kitchen sink has special curved edges. Mounting is even easier. The bent elements of the sink are inserted into the guides and it slides in until it stops.

Whichever mounting method you choose, one thing is clear - even a beginner can handle the installation of a surface-mounted sink. It is the ease of installation and low price that have made the overhead sink so popular.

Happy installation!

If for the first time you are faced with the question of how to fix the overhead sink, then this instruction will definitely help you. Believe me, the installation of the overhead version is much easier than the mortise one. Here you do not have to equip a seat in the countertop itself. It will only be necessary to fold the frame from the side facade panels, attach the front door and place the selected sink directly on top. But let's look at everything in sequence.

Preparing for installation

Before installing the overhead sink, you need to carefully mount outlets for each siphon and mixer on it. When the structure is fixed on the cabinet, it will be much more difficult to do this.

Chipboard boards require additional protection. If the upper ends are not treated with silicone, then a water-repellent barrier will not form and over time the frame will simply swell and deform.

The process of installing a mortise sink in a countertop can be reflected in the form of a step-by-step diagram:

Step 1: contouring seat. We make a template from a dense material in the form of a purchased sink, leaving an allowance of 1-2 cm, and try it on the countertop.

Step 2: Position selection. Using the template, we determine the exact configuration of our element on the countertop. When choosing a position, we take into account the general organization of the space adjacent to the sink, think over how convenient this or that position is. Circle the stencil.

Step 3: Protecting the table. We cover the area around the proposed hole with masking tape to prevent scratches and other damage.

Step 4: We are working on the landing area. With a drill, we make the starting points for cutting (drill 2mm), connect them with a chisel and turn them into a slot. We cut along the contour with an electric jigsaw, observing the perpendicularity of the cut.

Step 5: Installation. We apply sealant to the resulting cut and, pressing, insert the sink. Removes excess funds, give the composition 10-12 hours to gain a foothold, connect water supply and sewerage.

Use of mounting brackets

Installing an overhead sink requires a little less time and can also be done using special metal corners. They usually come with it. In total, at least 4 mounting plates are required, which will be fixed on the outside of the cabinet with self-tapping screws. Since the wall of the cabinet-stand rarely exceeds a thickness of 18 mm, the screws in the set are 16 mm long.

The step by step process looks like this:

  1. We screw in the screws by 5-6 mm.
  2. We hang on them fixing bracket(inner corner part to the cabinet).
  3. We clamp the screws, but not completely, leaving room for adjustment.
  4. We put the sink on the stand so that the powerful main fastening screw is fixed in the very depths of the metal corner.
  5. We clamp the screws until they stop and make sure that the fixation is secure

We fix the sink with glue

Installation of a surface sink is possible with the use of glue. But this method is only suitable if the underframe almost perfectly matches the sink itself. It will be placed on top, and the ribs will "sit" on the cabinet.

Advice! Do not spare the sealant on the entire contact surface. It plays the role of glue and additionally protects the joints from the penetration of moisture into them.

Installation with wooden blocks

You will have to think about how to attach the overhead sink to wooden blocks if there are no mounting brackets at hand or defects are found on the surface of the cabinet frame. So what do we need?

  • bars of the right size;
  • furniture corners;
  • small nails or screws.

The first step is to build a mounting platform in the form of a rectangular frame. She will serve top frame stands. It is he who will smooth out all the bumps. We send the assembled bars to the overhead sink box and fix them there with steel corners around the perimeter. And we put the already received design directly on the cabinet. We will fix it with the help of the same corners, but with inside to the walls.

Final work

Important! If, after reading the instructions, the entire procedure is already clear to you, then you can proceed with the installation, otherwise we recommend that you see how to fix the surface sink in the video tutorial.

At the final stage, it remains to attach the siphon to the sewer pipe. And we connect flexible connections from the mixer to the source of cold and hot water supply. Now you can safely open the shut-off valves and use the mounted device. For very lazy plumbers, there is another way out. Fasteners for an overhead sink may look like ordinary hooks for hanging it on the wall. But in this case, appropriate holes must be made on the back of the sink. And you can simply put the cabinet under the sink separately.

A sink in the kitchen is as necessary an attribute as a stove or a refrigerator. Exists great amount types of sinks, however, the most popular design is the invoice kitchen sink, the availability and ease of installation of which form a high demand among consumers. The operation of overhead plumbing is impossible without a kitchen cabinet on which it is installed. In other words, the sink and the base cabinet represent a single structure in the interior of the kitchen. Therefore, it is very important to fix the stainless steel sink to the cabinet correctly so that washing dishes and products is comfortable and convenient. In our article, we will provide an overview of the most common ways to fix sinks on different grounds, we describe the algorithm self-fulfillment works.

The main characteristics of overhead kitchen sinks

Overhead sinks got their name due to the installation method. In fact, this is a countertop with a bowl made of various materials. Most often for production kitchen sink use stainless steel due to the following advantages:

  • Light weight.
  • Durability. Stainless steel plumbing is resistant to water corrosion and lasts for many years without rust removal and special painting.
  • Hygiene. The shiny surface is easily cleaned of grease.
  • Affordable price. Stainless steel sinks are the cheapest on the market.
  • Easy to mount and dismantle. The assembly of the sink consists in laying it on the surface of the cabinet and fixing the entire structure with self-tapping screws. To remove the sink, simply unscrew the wrong side 4 plastic fasteners.

Important! The disadvantages of stainless steel sinks include a low level of sound insulation when in contact with water. Although, in most cases, such a disadvantage is possessed by low-quality products, in the manufacture of which only one steel sheet. To avoid this problem, purchase a sink with a yard bowl and sufficient depth.

Device

The surface-mounted stainless steel sink is a tandem of a sink and a kitchen cabinet without a back wall (for connecting a siphon to a drain pipe).

Despite the fact that the cabinet does not have shelves, its space is often used to store a trash can, auxiliary tools and empty bottles. The curbstone is closed with doors, and its outer surface can be made of any material and have a different color. The choice of cabinet design with a sink depends on general interior kitchens.

Important! The sink for the kitchen is sold both separately and as a set with a curbstone. It is preferable to choose the second option in order to save yourself from having to look for a suitable cabinet for washing.

As for the sink itself:

  • All models of overhead sinks are equipped with sides on three sides (front and sides), thanks to which the sink is installed on the cabinet.
  • The rear side of the structure, adjacent to the wall, does not have a side, but has a raised edge to prevent water from draining onto the floor.
  • The shape of the bowl in the overlay design is most often rectangular or square with rounded edges. This shape makes it easier to clean the inside of the sanitary ware.
  • The dimensions of the side walls of the bowl are standard: from 40 to 60 cm, and the depth is from 15 to 20 cm.
  • An emergency drain can be provided in the back wall of the bowl in case the sink overflows with water. When installing this model, the hole is connected to the main drain.
  • In some models of sinks, a special grate is provided to screen out large food residues. The grate is mounted in the drain hole of the bowl and performs two functions: it prevents clogging of the drain pipe and closes the hole of the bowl as a plug.
  • The surface of the bowl can be either matte or glossy. The matte version is more practical, as stains and dirt are less noticeable on the surface.

Important! Although stainless steel sinks have a simple design, they can be fitted with additional elements, for example, a second smaller bowl for washing food or a special ribbed top for storing wet dishes and laying out vegetables and fruits after washing. The surface of the metal worktop has small depressions and protrusions so that food and utensils do not roll off it. The ribbed top can be positioned either to the left or to the right of the bowl.

How is the furniture under the sink assembled?

Installation of a surface-mounted stainless steel sink on a pedestal is carried out in two stages:

  • Base stand assembly.
  • Sink installation.

To work, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • Screwdriver or screwdriver set.
  • Fasteners (corners and screws).
  • Pliers.
  • Silicone sealant to protect the sink and cabinet from moisture.

Let's consider each stage of the installation of the overhead sink in more detail.

Equipment

Any cabinet furniture is delivered unassembled. Fasteners are included with the furniture, so it’s not difficult to assemble the cabinet and fix the stainless steel sink with your own hands.

The body parts of the supporting pedestal are sawn rectangles from a chipboard sheet. All details have standard sizes, and the edges are already processed. The cabinet kit includes the following parts:

  • Side walls - 2 pcs.
  • Doors - 2 pcs.
  • Cross bars to ensure rigidity (sides) - 3 pcs. Drawers are located between the side walls in the following places: under the bottom (bottom front), under the sink (top front) and back in the middle.
  • Accessories (hinges and handles).
  • Fasteners.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Dismantle the packaging, remove the packaging material and lay out all the parts. Check that the components match the assembly instructions.
  2. Connect the side walls and front sides with corners and self-tapping screws. Install the bottom side first, then the top side. Screw them to each sidewall at the corners.
  3. Connect the resulting structure to the bottom in such a way that the edge of the bottom lies on top of the lower front side. Attach the bottom to each side and to the lower front side.
  4. Install the back drawer, attaching it with the help of corners to the side walls of the structure in the middle.

Important! The doors are hung on the cabinet only after the sink is installed.

How to attach a stainless steel sink to a cabinet?

There are several ways to attach a sink to a cabinet:

  • With sealant. Apply sealant to the edges of the cabinet and place the sink on top.

Important! The sealant, although it combines two functions - protective and fixing, but the reliability of fastening is questionable, since the sink must withstand considerable weight loads.

  • Mounting foam. This method is very simple. Foam is applied to the edges of the side and front walls of the cabinet, after 10 minutes the sink is installed. After the foam dries, the excess is cut off.

Important! Although the foam has great gluing power, but, in fact, the sink lies only on the walls of the cabinet, so the reliability of this design is questionable.

  • On special L-shaped fasteners. If special mounting brackets are included in the kit, then the installation of plumbing will be of better quality, reliable, durable and strong.

How to fasten a stainless steel sink to a cabinet with fasteners?

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. On the inside of the cabinet, mark the places for the fasteners with a pencil.
  2. Screw the self-tapping screws into the marked places (not all the way).
  3. Fix the brackets on the screws.
  4. Install the sink into the grooves of the fasteners. Check if she lies flat in the place allotted to her.
  5. Remove the sink, turn it upside down.
  6. Apply sealant to the ends of the side walls.
  7. Coat the sink around the perimeter with silicone sealant.
  8. Insert the bowl into the grooves of the brackets.
  9. From the inside, fasten the sink with self-tapping screws.
  10. Remove the silicone that has come out from under the edge of the sink with a wet cloth.
  11. Connect water supply. Use flexible connecting hoses that make it possible to move the sink away from the wall for ease of installation. Connect the siphon to the drain pipe, connect the flexible hoses from the mixer to the source of hot and cold water.
  12. Hang the doors on the cabinet. To install the doors evenly, first screw the hinges to the doors, then attach them to the sidewall and mark the location of the hinges and their holes on the sidewalls with chalk. Screw the doors in turn, checking the coincidence of the marked location of the hinges.
  • Install an overhead sink with a mixer and a siphon already attached to it, since it will be difficult to do this after installation.
  • To connect the water supply, use pipes made of metal-plastic. They are reliable, flexible and durable.
  • You can fix the overhead sink in a sliding way. In this case, the cabinet must be equipped with guides, and the sink must have special curved edges. The installation of such a model is quite simple - insert the rather bent elements of the sink into the guide cabinets and push it all the way.

How to attach a stainless steel sink to a countertop?

The process of installing the sink in the countertop should be carried out according to the following scheme.

Step #1. Seat contouring

First of all, you need to prepare a place for a future sink. To do this, lay the sink itself on the surface of the countertop or make a template from a dense material in the shape of the purchased sink, leaving allowances of 1-2 cm, try it on the countertop. Mark according to the template with a marker.

Important! It is much more convenient to work on a countertop laid with the wrong side up.

Step #2. Working out the landing zone

First you need to protect the countertop from scratches and other damage. To do this, cover the area around the proposed hole with masking tape.

Using a jigsaw, make a hole for the sink as follows:

  1. Use a drill to make the starting points for cutting (2 mm), connect them with a chisel, turning them into a gap.
  2. Saw the grooves with a jigsaw, keeping the cut perpendicular.
  3. Rasp the edges of the hole and remove large burrs.
  4. Apply sealant to the cut to prevent the wood from swelling on contact with water.
  5. If you previously dismantled the countertop, then return it to its place. Apply sealing butyl tape around the perimeter of the hole.
