  • diesel fuel;
  • thermally stable paint;
  • metal tape 25 mm wide. and 10 mm, 1.5 mm thick.;
  • steel corner with shelves 25*25 mm.;
  • square pipe with a side of 25 mm.

Tools that we will use in our work:

  • electric Bulgarian saw;
  • welding inverter;
  • cutting disc for metal for a grinder;
  • grinding disc for grinder;
  • electric drill and a set of drills;
  • spray gun for applying paint;
  • roulette;
  • permanent marker.

Manufacturing steps

  1. Barrel washing. Before sawing the barrel, it is necessary to remove the solvent residues from it so that an explosion does not occur. To do this, pour a full barrel of water, and immediately pour it out. After that, it is recommended to leave the barrel in the sun to allow the remaining solvent vapors to leave it.
  2. Measure the circumference of the barrel with a tape measure. The result obtained must be divided by 4. The resulting figure is the distance that must be set aside from the traffic jams in order to find two opposite points on the base of the barrel, equidistant from the traffic jams. We mark these points on both sides of the base with a marker, draw two straight lines connecting the opposite points of the cylinder along the surface of the barrel.
  3. Using a grinder, carefully saw the cylinder in a circle. Don't forget safety goggles. We saw against the course of the cutting disc, so that the grinder does not get bitten by metal, and is not torn out of the hands.
  4. We turn to cutting the edging of our future barbecue. We will make the edging from the corners. We measure the corner along the length of the sides of the section of the barrel. You should get 2 long ones and 2 short ones. Conventionally, we cut the upper part at 45 degrees, the lower one at 90.
  5. We use a welding inverter to weld all 4 corners into a edging, after that we try on half of the barrel so that it fits in size.
  6. We cut the legs of the future design from a square-section pipe, length 900-950 mm. We saw off one side of the leg at an angle of 15 degrees, so that there is a slight expansion of the legs for better stability.
  7. We insert the legs into the space between the base of the semi-cylinder and the frame from the corners, mark with a marker the intersection of the edging of the barrel.
  8. We cut out the edging with a grinder so that the leg stands close to the barrel.
  9. We collect all the elements, and weld together.
  10. Steel tape 25 mm. we will need to make guides for a mobile support from skewers. We measure the tape along the inner width of the future barbecue, and cut it off. You need 2 guides and they should be located along the edges of the barbecue with inside. We put it in place and weld it.
  11. We make the mobile support for skewers from a corner. To do this, we measure one shelf of the corner along the outer edges (together with the frame) of our barbecue, and the second along inner space between guides. We cut out a rectangular piece from one corner shelf with a grinder.
  12. Our next step is to give the future device for cooking barbecue presentation. To do this, insert a grinding disc into the grinder, and remove all irregularities and welds. The whole structure, as a result of the grinding process, should be smooth, glossy and shine in the sun.
  13. From a ten-millimeter tape, we bend the poker a little longer than the width of the future barbecue.
  14. Removal of rust and dirt from the surface of the barrel, thus we will prepare it for the next stage - firing.
  15. Firing is necessary in order to remove the paint from the surface and degrease it before applying the paint. We will burn with diesel fuel prepared in advance for this.

We take a rag, moisten it with diesel fuel, and use it to apply diesel fuel to the surface of the barrel. Then we set fire to the rags. To make it easier for yourself, use a fire igniter or ethyl alcohol. Just splash a little alcohol on a burning rag from afar. Next, we wait until all the diesel fuel burns out, and the paint peels off from the barrel. Even if paint stains remain in some places, it’s not scary, the fire destroyed all harmful substances.


It is not recommended to make holes for blowing in a homemade brazier, so the coals will be hotter and will smolder longer.

Attention! A chimney with this option is not used by barbecues, as it drastically reduces the aesthetics of the perception of the structure. Instead, a round or square hood is usually mounted.

It will not work to close the cut part of the pipe, so a standard round cover is used, which is installed instead of a barbecue grill.

From the line on which the markup was carried out, we set aside 10 cm upwards (34 cm will be obtained from the seam-middle). This is where the lid of our barbecue will end.

The further quality of the entire structure depends on the evenness of the lines and the uniformity of the cut. Before starting work, apply cut lines with a tape measure and a marker.   2. 2-5 cm are left from each edge.

  5. We use a welding inverter to weld all 4 corners into a edging, after that we try on half of the barrel so that it fits in size.
  6. We cut the legs of the future design from a square-section pipe, length 900-950 mm. We saw off one side of the leg at an angle of 15 degrees, so that there is a slight expansion of the legs for better stability.
  7. We insert the legs into the space between the base of the semi-cylinder and the frame from the corners, mark with a marker the intersection of the edging of the barrel.
  8. We cut out the edging with a grinder so that the leg stands close to the barrel.
  9. We collect all the elements, and weld together.
  10. Steel tape 25 mm. we will need to make guides for a mobile support from skewers. We measure the tape along the inner width of the future barbecue, and cut it off. You need 2 guides and they should be located along the edges of the brazier from the inside. We put it in place and weld it.
  11. We make the mobile support for skewers from a corner. To do this, we measure one shelf of the corner along the outer edges (together with the frame) of our barbecue, and the second along the internal space between the guides. We cut out a rectangular piece from one corner shelf with a grinder.
  12. Our next step is to give the future device for cooking kebabs a presentation. To do this, we insert a grinding disc into the grinder, and remove all irregularities and welds. The whole structure, as a result of the grinding process, should be smooth, glossy and shine in the sun.
  13. From a ten-millimeter tape, we bend the poker a little longer than the width of the future barbecue.
  14. Removal of rust and dirt from the surface of the barrel, thus we will prepare it for the next stage - firing.
  15. Firing is necessary in order to remove the paint from the surface and degrease it before applying the paint. We will burn with diesel fuel prepared in advance for this.

We take a rag, moisten it with diesel fuel, and use it to apply diesel fuel to the surface of the barrel. Then we set fire to the rags. To make it easier for yourself, use a fire igniter or ethyl alcohol. Just splash a little alcohol on a burning rag from afar. Next, we wait until all the diesel fuel burns out, and the paint peels off from the barrel. Even if paint stains remain in some places, it’s not scary, the fire destroyed all harmful substances.

  1. Our next step will be washing the brazier from soot and soot. For this purpose, a car washing machine - Karcher - is perfect.
  2. Using an electric drill, we drill holes in the bottom of the brazier for paint drainage.
  3. Using an airbrush, we apply heat-resistant paint to all structural elements. It is advisable to apply the paint in several layers so that it lies evenly. The paint dries at a temperature of 23-25 ​​degrees during the day.

It is not recommended to make holes for blowing in a homemade brazier, so the coals will be hotter and will smolder longer.

The second half of the structure is created in the same way. They must be exactly the same. After that, they must be combined, creating a common frame. In order to mount 2 parts, you will need steel corners.

At this stage of creating a brazier, you need to be very careful. Any mistake can ruin the whole design. Then the structure will be uneven and angular. When the frame is created, rubber wheels are attached to it so that the barbecue can be transported to other places. To make it easier to transport an object, a cover can be attached to the frame. Then you need to put the barrel on the frame so that the drain holes are located at the top and on the back side. This is at the same time a hole that will replace the exhaust pipe.   • On the barrel, draw a hole in the shape of a rectangle - this will later be the lid of the barbecue. It is cut out with a grinder, and after that door hinges are attached to it so that the lid can open and close. To provide additional traction, drill holes in the sides of the brazier. It remains to attach the handle and put the chimney on the drain hole. And for the possibility of frying on a barbecue, install a stainless steel grate.

  • As for the inside of the structure, you need to make supports for the skewers. To do this, cut 2 metal corners along the length of the barrel and make cuts 10 cm apart. Then weld these blanks from the inside. And in order for the barrel to look aesthetically better, paint the structure with a special heat-resistant paint from an airbrush. To do this, you can use powder thermal paints, silicone enamels, or even “indestructible” paint for car mufflers, which, moreover, is environmentally friendly.

For the durability of the structure, experts recommend applying the composition in several layers. And in just 24 hours you can use your creation for barbecue or barbecue.

In the process of making a brazier with your own hands, you will surely approach the process creatively and think over additional functions and a unique design of such a design. It is desirable to find a barrel of almost the same volume - 50-60 liters - this is the optimal size. Moreover, its diameter should not be too large: skewers usually go 50-60 cm. In order for them to lie tightly on the brazier, at least 10-12 cm of free length should remain. So it turns out that the diameter of the barrel should not be more than 40-50 cm.

If it is wider, there are two ways out - to make skewers according to the required sizes or to weld a corner on the far side from the inside, on which to rest their tips. You won’t be able to win much, but 5-6 cm, depending on the size of the corner, can be won back.

Barrels must have walls at least 2-3 mm thick. By itself, you can not use containers from under fuels and lubricants. You can’t fall them out to such an extent that you can cook food.

Now you need to make the legs for the barbecue.

We take square pipe and cut off 4 pieces about 120 cm long. Cut off one edge of each leg with a bevel of 15 degrees, the second cut is straight.

We insert the legs with an oblique angle to the frame, the distance from the edge of the frame to the leg is 17 cm.

We mark the places for the legs on the edge of the barrel and cut the cuts with a grinder to the depth of the barrel body. The cuts must be exactly the width of the pipe.

We insert the legs into the cuts and weld the entire structure, weld the barrel to the frame in places of convex ribs.

We cut off the metal tapes to the width of the brazier and weld them along the edges on the inside of the barrel. From the corner we make a sliding stop for skewers. Now the emphasis can be shifted to fit the size of the skewers.

The next step is grinding the protruding pieces of welding.

Now the barrel needs to be cleaned of rust and burn the paint. Roasting can be done gas burner or pour some diesel fuel into a barrel and set it on fire. The paint is fading and peeling off. We clean the remains of burnt paint with a metal brush.

At the bottom of the barrel, you need to make several small holes in case of water ingress.

The final stage is to paint the entire structure with heat-resistant paint in several layers. It is desirable to paint with a spray gun.

In a day, the brazier will be ready for use; to cook a barbecue, it is enough to install a stainless steel grate on the brazier.
