Cover the floor with linoleum in the form of square pieces. How to lay linoleum correctly - simple and straightforward instructions

Linoleum has gained great popularity for a long time and, despite the emergence of new coatings, continues to be in demand. You can lay it on different reasons, one of the most popular is concrete. The advantage of concrete is its solidity and flat surface, which makes it easier to lay the material.

Choosing and purchasing material - 3 classes of linoleum

The lifespan of a floor depends on the quality of the flooring material. When choosing linoleum, take into account the load that the coating will experience, temperature and humidity levels. Linoleum is classified into three classes: household, semi-commercial and commercial. The thicker the material, the stronger and more durable it is. Household is used for living quarters in an apartment and a house, where the intensity of movement is low.

Semi-commercial spread in offices, schools, medical institutions and other premises with low and medium traffic. The coating experiences the greatest stress in shops, hotels, commercial centers, therefore, the most durable type is used - commercial. When choosing a color, take into account the following recommendations:

  • when buying material for several rooms, select the coating in one color scheme, this will visually make the premises more spacious;
  • a coating with a small pattern is suitable for a small room;
  • buy material with a margin, especially if you have to adjust the pattern: the material should be at least 10 cm longer in length and width.

Concrete is a material that conducts heat well, so it stays cold even at a comfortable room temperature. To keep the floor warm, you need to choose a suitable coating. Linoleum is produced without a base and with a fabric, felt or foam base.

If you use single-layer linoleum for a floor with a concrete base in living rooms, you will additionally have to purchase a substrate or make a dry screed from fiberboard, plywood or similar materials, and this is an extra cost. Linoleum with a felt base is optimal for living rooms. Felt acts as a heat insulator and substrate: due to its soft structure, it hides minor irregularities in the coating. The material with a fabric base attracts with its characteristics and low price.

Before buying linoleum, we measure the dimensions of the premises and choose the installation method in order to calculate the amount of material. When buying a cover, we pay attention to the pattern, since when the pattern is adjusted, overruns are possible. Ask to pick up glue and mastic for the selected linoleum. It is advisable to purchase materials from one manufacturer, this will make it possible to obtain best result.

A properly prepared base is the key to high-quality coverage

Before laying, you need to prepare the base. To do this, remove the old coating by prying it with a spatula and removing it in pieces. If something could not be removed with a spatula, for example, the remnants of mastic or glue, we clean them with a metal brush. After finishing the dismantling work, we evaluate the surface.

Linoleum is an elastic material, therefore, if there are irregularities and roughness on the floor surface, all imperfections will be visible on the coating. In addition, linoleum on uneven surface stretches and loses its performance, instead of lasting 5-7 years, it will only work for a couple of years. Therefore, laying at home requires a perfectly flat base, which can be done with cement screed or restored to concrete.

  • Leveling with mixtures

For leveling, we prepare a mat, a trowel for grouting, a building level, a long strip or metallic profile... Can be used cement-sand mortars or polymer self-leveling mixtures. As a result, you should get perfectly flat concrete base.

Working with a cement screed is more laborious than self-leveling mortars, which are applied in a 2 mm layer and dry in half a day. Before you start with cement mortar, you need to mark a plane that will serve as a reference for the alignment. Draw a horizontal line on one wall and continue working, moving perpendicularly along the walls. As a result, we get a flat surface along the walls.

Next, visually select a square with a side of 50 cm on the floor, fill it with cement mortar. We level the mortar with a spatula and a trowel, checking the evenness building level... When the surface has been leveled, at the end with a trowel we iron the surface again so that there are no roughnesses and voids. Next, fill the next square in the same way, checking the line on the wall and checking the level for evenness. Thus, we fill the entire floor. Let the concrete harden, it takes several days.

  • Reconstruction of the concrete base

If the concrete base has small defects, they can be touched up with cement mortar. We prepare a small amount of cement screed from sand, cement and polymer additives. We put the solution in a bowl or container, convenient for work. In order for the mixture to firmly adhere to the old base, before applying it, we inspect the defective areas, remove the broken and loose layers. Using a trowel and a spatula, we apply the mixture to the concrete base so that it completely fills all the cracks and voids, level it from above. After the procedure, the floor must dry well so that the tiling can be laid on it.

Laying technology - we act according to the rules

Before laying the covering, we clean the concrete base from debris and dust with our own hands, it is better to wash it. Let the surface dry well and get down to work. The temperature in the room should not be lower than 18 degrees, the humidity should not be higher than 68%. Lay on top of the concrete waterproofing material, for example, plastic wrap, it will make the floor warmer, increase sound insulation characteristics and will increase the lifespan of the floor. We overlap the sheets of film so that they overlap each other by 20-25 cm, the film should go 5-6 cm on the wall.

For laying linoleum, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • putty knife;
  • roller;
  • brushes;
  • sharp knife or cutter;
  • roulette;
  • marker or pencil;
  • ruler;
  • skirting boards;
  • door strips;
  • corners;
  • double sided tape;
  • mastic or glue;
  • primer.

Lay the linoleum on the floor with an overlap of about 8 cm on the walls.If the room custom sizes, trimming the material becomes more difficult. To make it easier to work, you must first draw a plan on paper on how to properly lay linoleum. Then, using a tape measure and a marker, transfer the dimensions to the canvas.

Then we cut off all the excess, leaving a distance of 0.5-1 cm between the wall and the edge of the coating for the expansion gap required for thermal expansion.

To make an accurate cut, bend the edge of the linoleum and make notes on the back with a pencil or marker, then draw a line with a ruler and cut along it. We make diagonal cuts in the corners. If there are niches, we measure them out, make a cut with an allowance. In the places of the protrusions, we make cuts diagonally and cut out pieces in the linoleum corresponding to the size of the protrusion. Cut holes for pipes in the same way. If there are columns or ledges in the room that require curly cutting, we cut out patterns from cardboard, along which it is more convenient to cut the material.

When cutting linoleum, you do not have to worry about the neatness of the edges, if they turn out to be uneven, we will cover them with baseboards. If it is necessary to dock several pieces, we lay them with an overlap of 2-3 cm, while making sure that the pattern matches. When preliminary cutting the coating, we make sure that the material fits as tightly as possible to the walls, so you should not make large allowances. After trimming facing material smooth it with a roller from the center to the edges, leave it in this form for several days to even out the folds and waves. Further steps depend on the chosen installation method.

Styling methods - which one should you use?

If we lay linoleum in a room with furniture and low traffic, then it is not necessary additional fixation material, it is enough to fix it around the perimeter with plinths, and in doorways with threshold strips.

In other situations, you need to choose one of the styling methods:

  • fix it on tape;
  • glue with mastic or glue.

The first method is used for small rooms, where people often walk, and if the material is not too rough. The process consists in creating a kind of scotch tape on the floor with a step of half a meter. We will glue the material onto this mesh. The tape will help fix the coating better. First, we glue the tape to the concrete base without removing the top protective film... Then we spread the covering, we work alternately with each half. We bend one half of the linoleum, remove the protective film from the tape and carefully lay the canvas, pressing the material to the floor with our hands and using a roller. We carry out the same procedure with the second half of the coating. Alternative option: first glue the scotch tape on the linoleum, then remove the protection and press the covering tightly to the floor.

More time consuming option - laying linoleum on rubber bituminous mastic... Using this method reliably fixes the coating and significantly extends its service life. The adhesive base is rubber-bitumen mastic, it has good adhesion to the floor, practically does not contain harmful substances. It is more suitable for fabric backed material. For a coating with a foamed base, choose Bustilat or dispersion adhesive.

Before using the mastic, apply a primer to the floor and coating. Apply a layer about 0.5 mm thick on thin linoleum, and 0.9 mm on coarse linoleum.

Before doing the work, we twist the linoleum into a roll with a pattern inward. It is so convenient to apply the adhesive to inner side material. So that there are no problems during installation, we lay the linoleum roll close to the wall. Apply the mastic with neat strokes on the surface of the coating, gradually unwinding the roll. We align the glued coating with a roller. Make sure that no air gets under the coating. If this happens, in the place where the air has collected, we put something heavy and expel the air with a roller. To join the material, we take special scissors that can cut both adjacent layers. When the fit is finished, we fasten the seams with special glue or mastic. After finishing laying the coating, let the surface dry. This usually takes about two days.

You can use glue instead of mastic. It can be of two types, depending on the method of gluing: for fixing or solid. The first type is easier to apply, it is consumed less. The following types of adhesives are offered on the market:

  • one- and two-component;
  • water dispersion;
  • on a solvent;
  • polyurethane;
  • for fixing.

Adhesive for continuous adhesion is applied to the entire surface of the floor, for fixation - pointwise and around the perimeter. Bituminous mastics are very popular due to their high strength and moisture resistance. Their use is especially important in large rooms. With the help of bitumen mastic, you can protect the coating from the negative effects of moisture and level the concrete base, if there are minor defects on it, in order to get an even flooring.

We make high-quality joints - we get a beautiful floor

To obtain a high-quality coating from linoleum, knowledge of the laying technology is not enough, if a roll is used that is narrower than the width of the room, then you have to lay several strips of material and weld the joints. There are two welding methods: cold and hot. The first method is more accessible, since it does not require a special tool and a lot of time. To work you need masking tape, a long bar, special glue and a sharp knife. The gluing algorithm is a sequence of steps:

  1. 1. We overlap the linoleum canvases.
  2. 2. Attaching the bar, draw a line along which we will cut the canvas.
  3. 3. Next, along the drawn line, make a cut.
  4. 4. Having removed the cut strips, we dock the canvases.
  5. 5. Glue masking tape along the cut, cut a gap in it along the joining line.
  6. 6. Pour glue into the resulting gap.
  7. 7. When the glue dries, remove the tape.

Hot welding takes more time, requires precision and accuracy, but as a result, the seams become invisible and the life of the coating is extended. For the procedure, you must special equipment for welding and polymer cord. We join the edges of the canvases to match the drawing. We put the cord into the welding machine and heat it up to 300 degrees. We start work from the wall, moving towards the middle of the room. Pour the melted cord into the gap between the canvases. When the material hardens, cut off the excess with a sickle knife or other sharp instrument. We get a tight, inconspicuous seam.

Have you started repairs in your apartment, bought all the necessary materials and realized that calling installers to fix everything in its place is now an unaffordable luxury for you? It doesn't matter, because you can do most of the work on installing materials on the walls, floor and even the ceiling with your own hands! Today we will tell you how to lay linoleum yourself. By following our tips and instructions, you will be able to repair your floor without too much difficulty.

Linoleum is one of the cheapest floor coverings available. However, despite its low cost, this material has a mass positive characteristics... Also in favor of linoleum speaks and its pleasant appearance, some canvases have a pattern "like parquet".

The linoleum floor does not burn, is not afraid of water and is very easy to clean. It can be stellit in absolutely any room, but it manifests itself best of all in the kitchen and in the corridor, because these rooms are most susceptible to pollution.

In the first step, you need to choose suitable material... There are no special rules here. The only thing you need to pay attention to is the thickness of the linoleum sheet, because the thicker such a coating is, the more resistant the floor will be to wear. Experienced craftsmen it is not recommended to use canvases thinner than 3 mm.

Next, you measure the length of the walls and find out the area of the room, on the basis of which you calculate the number of rolls. Number of sq. meters of material should be slightly larger than you calculated as allowances are made during installation.

After the linoleum is purchased, it is necessary to remove all furniture and other items from the room that may interfere with the repair. If there are cabinets in the room that you cannot handle on your own, then ask your friends for help. You should not cut the flooring to the shape of the furniture, leaving the areas under it uncovered, because in this case you will not be able to make rearrangements in the future.

Now all you have to do is prepare the following tools:

  • Wide and narrow paint spatula;
  • Special glue;
  • Roller;
  • Double sided tape;
  • Scissors.

This is perhaps all preparatory work common to floors of different types. Further, the laying of linoleum will be slightly different.

How can you lay linoleum on glue with your own hands?

There are several ways to lay linoleum, it is best to plant such material with glue. In this case, the coating will hold on more tightly and will last you much longer.

There are only two options for how to put linoleum on glue:

  1. Coating the entire surface of the base with an adhesive. For such work, a roller or a notched trowel and a special glue are used, it can be one-component, two-component, water-dispersion, polyurethane, or made on the basis of a solvent.
  2. To fix linoleum, glue is applied in drops in some places. In this case, you can use double-sided tape or special glue for fixing.

Since there are a lot of types of linoleum, there are also special adhesives for use in one case or another. To lay the canvas on a heat-insulating base, dispersion glue is used, which is applied to the floor in a layer about 0.7 mm thick. For fabric-based materials, dispersion adhesive is also used, but its layer thickness should not exceed 0.5 mm.

To cover the concrete floor with linoleum, use a special bituminous mastic. It provides better grip and longer material life.

Linoleum is glued as follows:

  1. First, you need to cut the linoleum to the shape of the room. If you cover the entire floor with one canvas, then it should be allowed to lie down for a couple of days unfolded. After the material has straightened, it must be cut in such a way that its edges do not reach one centimeter of the wall. This is necessary, the linoleum did not rest against the wall when you lay and stretch it.
  2. Half of the linoleum lying on the floor rolls into a roll. The floor underneath is smeared with glue, after which the canvas unfolds.
  3. The same must be done with the second half.
  4. Then the glued linoleum must be rolled with a roller and left to dry completely.

If you use several linoleum canvases to decorate a room, then they overlap each other. After that, one rises tightly and is coated with glue, the same must be done with another piece of material. At the junction, you need to make a cut and remove all unnecessary trimmings. With this gluing, the seam between the parts of the linoleum turns out to be perfectly even.

How to properly lay linoleum in an apartment without using glue

Simpler but less reliable way laying linoleum - this is his post without the use of glue. This option is acceptable if you are using a solid linoleum sheet for flooring. However, if you decide to cover the floor with such a material without the help of glue, then you should know that in any case there is a risk of creases appearing on the coating.

When installing linoleum on the floor, the temperature in the room should not drop below 18 degrees. It is also necessary that the air humidity does not exceed 68%.

If you decide to lay linoleum without using glue, then you need to mark and cut the linoleum as accurately as possible. Only then can the canvas be positioned correctly.

How to cut linoleum correctly:

  1. It is necessary to spread the linoleum sheet and let it rest for several days.
  2. Linoleum is laid in the room in such a way that a uniform overlap is formed on each wall.
  3. If the room you are renovating has outer corners, then you need to start trimming linoleum with them. The first step is to cut the linoleum in this place so that the overlap on each side of the corner is equal to the overlaps on the wall, so that the canvas lies down at the junction of the sides of the corner, an incision must be made. You should not cut the corner, as they say "by eye", so that the material lies exactly in such corners, you need to draw two parallel lines: the first - from the beginning of the wall to the beginning of the corner, and the second - from the outer part of the corner to the perpendicular wall. The same thing needs to be done on the other side.
  4. Now you can start the final trimming of the linoleum. To do this, you need to bend the canvas against the wall and use a ruler to measure such a distance from it so that when you cut off the excess, a gap of 0.5 cm remains between the edge of the linoleum and the wall.Put a point in this place, continue to measure the same distance further around the room. Connect all points with a line and cut off excess strips of material.

After completing all the above steps, you can perfectly cut the linoleum evenly. If you are going to put a few strips of linoleum in the room, then we advise you to refuse the glueless method. However, it is possible to connect pieces of material using cold welding... To do this, use a special glue, instructions for its use are usually written on the package.

Description: how to properly lay linoleum on the concrete floor yourself

Highly an important milestone in the repair is the preparation of surfaces. Placing linoleum on a poorly prepared floor is a useless job that will soon have to be redone.

Basically, the floors in apartments are of two types: concrete and wood (fiberboard, chipboard). The first option often requires a new screed that will even out all the old flaws.

Preparing a concrete floor for the installation of linoleum requires care and responsibility, but you can handle it yourself. First of all, you need to delete the old finishing material... Try to concrete floor no dried glue, no debris, no dust remained.

Now you need to inspect the floor for irregularities. If there are only small depressions and bumps on the surface, then you can cope with its leveling with a metal trowel and cement plaster.

If the shape of the floor does not correspond to the standards, and remove the unevenness simple method does not work, you will have to change the strategy and re-fill the floor. We can write a lot about the most different ways screeds, however, it is easiest to work with self-leveling floors. These mixtures allow you to make the most even surface, moreover, they dry quickly enough.

Professionals do not advise laying linoleum directly on the concrete floor, in which case the room will not be provided with sufficient thermal insulation. Better to cover with concrete with a special cork backing.

It is also worth paying attention to the characteristics of the linoleum itself. For a concrete base, it is necessary to choose a material with a heat-insulating felt or foam layer. Also, linoleum is divided into types.

Types of linoleum:

  1. Commercial linoleum is suitable for use in public areas;
  2. Household linoleum can be used to decorate residential apartments;
  3. Semi-commercial linoleum combines the positive properties of the first and second types.

How to properly lay linoleum on plywood

Another option for linoleum is its covering on plywood. Such wood sheets are used when it is necessary to improve the thermal insulation of the floor or to reinforce old boards. In the first case (if the surface is concrete), you can use plywood up to 1 cm thick, if you want to prepare a wooden floor, then choose a material no thinner than 1.5 cm.

A word on how to lay plywood sheets on a wooden floor:

  1. Loose planks must be pulled to the base boards with self-tapping screws;
  2. Settled logs must be knocked out with wedges;
  3. Replace the broken pieces of the old floor with new planks;
  4. Sand all knots and protrusions on the tree;
  5. Divide the plywood sheets. At least two pieces, and attach them to the floor slightly offset from each other.

How to lay linoleum (video)

Linoleum is one of the most inexpensive materials for finishing the floor. Many consider it unsafe, and in the case of low-quality products, this is true. However, bona fide manufacturers have long abandoned the addition of harmful substances to the linoleum composition, so do not hesitate to send the seller for a quality certificate.

Linoleum can be considered one of the cheapest and practical materials used for finishing floors in residential and industrial premises. It is characterized by a fairly high degree of wear resistance and moisture resistance, and modern models coatings allow you to choose the desired pattern in harmony with the rest of the interior design. The ease of caring for linoleum makes it the main option when choosing a floor covering for a hallway or kitchen - a room where there is always high humidity and a high degree of pollution. How is linoleum laid on a wooden floor?

Choosing linoleum for a wooden base

Before carrying out work on finishing the floor, it is necessary to choose the linoleum itself. What should you look for when going to the store? When going shopping, first measure the room where you are going to change the floor covering. Linoleum is produced in rolls of different widths, usually 2.5 meters, 3.4 meters or 4 meters. If you can choose linoleum so as to cover the entire room at once without joints between parts of the material, then it is recommended to stick to this particular option. In order to determine how wide the linoleum you need, add 7 cm to the width of the room in reserve.

Linoleum rolls have different widths.

The coating for linoleum flooring on a wooden floor is different. PVC linoleum is made on a foam or fabric base. Fabric linoleum is the simplest flooring option that has good ductility and sufficient level strength. If you are thinking about additional noise and heat insulation, then preference should be given to linoleum with a foamed base. Some manufacturers offer linoleum with a thermal insulation base.

Material without background.

In rooms where it is required to create a uniform floor structure, the best option there will be linoleum laying without an underlay, such a material is characterized by increased resistance to mechanical stress.

When choosing linoleum on a wooden floor, focus on the environmental indicators of the material. The coating, which is made from natural ingredients, including wood flour, cork, jute and linseed oil, will not emit any harmful substances. The only drawback of natural linoleum is its more short term exploitation.

In terms of thickness, it is best to choose 4 mm linoleum for a wooden floor. It will be able to serve you for a long time as a floor covering and will not break during installation.

When buying linoleum, pay attention to all its main parameters: material, design, size, heat and sound insulation qualities, abrasion resistance. In order to avoid unpleasant problems when laying on the floor, it is recommended to inspect the roll for external defects while still in the store. If you buy multiple rolls, check that they are all labeled with the same batch, otherwise at home you may find that the color of the two rolls is different.

Preparing the floor before laying the covering

How to properly lay new linoleum on an old wooden floor? Before starting installation, the floor surface itself should be well prepared. The quality of the future flooring is half dependent on the flatness of the working surface and another half - on the correct laying of the linoleum itself.

What can affect the new coverage? Significant defects in wood flooring include:

  • The presence of gaps between the boards, cracks and chips;
  • Rotten boards and supports, creaking boards;
  • Remains of old floor paint;
  • Other defects that can deform the new coating.

Before laying linoleum on a wooden floor, all this needs to be fixed. Old paint warms up construction hairdryer, after which it can be easily removed with an ordinary spatula. All cracks and chips, small pits must be covered with mastic or sealant.

Photo of the result of surface preparation.

Bridging the gaps between the boards will take much longer. To do this, you will have to either lift the boards in turn and press them together, or clean each gap by installing a wooden trapezoidal rail in it. If available, you will have to look through all the boards and those that creak, fasten them with a long self-tapping screw through and through with a log and a floor base.

Rotten boards and logs are the biggest problem. Laying linoleum on a wooden floor with rotten parts is not recommended. All these parts will have to be replaced with new ones, and in some particularly difficult cases, the entire floor will need to be redone.

After removing all defects of the old floor, it is required to level it. This can be done both with special tools and with the help of plywood flooring. In the first case, the planer removes layers of wood in those places where there are protrusions above the general level of the original surface.

Working with a plane is quite laborious and requires a certain amount of experience with this tool. To facilitate the task of leveling the floor, you can use grinder, which will cope with the work assigned to her much faster.

These methods are used quite rarely, since after such treatment the floor will still not be perfectly smooth. Experts, before laying linoleum on a wooden floor, level the surface with plywood.

This method assumes the presence of additional costs for the purchase of plywood and takes more time, but as a result of the work carried out, you will have a smooth, high-quality coating on which you can lay the linoleum itself without fear.

The floor is processed with a grinder, then according to the principle brickwork lay plywood sheets. The gaps between the sheets are filled with mastic, and the plywood itself is necessarily covered with drying oil.

How to prepare linoleum?

To lay linoleum on a wooden floor successfully, it is necessary to prepare not only the surface of the old floor, but also the material itself. To do this, spread the linoleum roll and leave it in the room until it is completely straightened out. Best of all, if this procedure is carried out at an air temperature of at least 16 ° C, the optimum humidity level is 40-70%.

How do you know that linoleum is ready for installation? Examine the surface of the material: there should be no folds on it. If in some places there are defects that have not been smoothed out by themselves, then try to smoothen them forcibly by placing heavy objects. If the kinks still remain, then you will have to return the roll to the store - the defects will spoil the entire appearance of the new floor covering after it has been laid.

Preparation of linoleum before laying.

Before you put the linoleum on the wooden floor and start gluing it, calculate the size of the material cut: the width of the room plus 7-10 cm at the edges. If you are using a material with a pattern that will have to be adjusted, make sure that you cut off a piece of linoleum with 1 span of the pattern in reserve at the store.

Laying methods

There are three ways to lay linoleum on a wooden floor. The simplest option, which is used for linoleum flooring in small rooms(up to 14 m2) is a method without gluing.

The order of work in this case is as follows. A piece of linoleum is spread on the prepared floor and leveled. After leveling, any excess material is neatly trimmed off. When trimming linoleum, leave additional gaps at the walls with a width of 1.5 cm. The linoleum itself is attached with plinths. The gap near the walls is left on purpose, since linoleum with room temperature changes its density and stretches slightly. If these 1,% cm are not left, then the material after expansion will simply swell near the walls - it will be very difficult to eliminate this defect later.

Sorry, no results were found.

If you want to more securely fix the covering, then lay the linoleum on the wooden floor using double-sided tape. To lay linoleum in this way, scotch tape is pre-glued around the perimeter of the room in the form of a grid of about 50 cm.Then the protective strip is gradually removed from the scotch tape and linoleum is also gradually glued.

When using scotch tape, it is required to stick the material slowly, meter by meter, constantly monitoring its smoothing in order to exclude the appearance of blisters.

A big plus of this method of laying linoleum is simply dismantling the coating if it needs to be replaced. Linoleum on a wooden floor, the area of which exceeds 22 m2, is laid only with the help of glue.

Bonding to the floor

In order to glue linoleum to the boards, you will need special glue, which can be bought at a building materials store. In addition to it, also stock up on a pencil, roller, paint knife, spatula, silicone glue, a ruler, masking tape. Prepare the linoleum itself, as well as baseboards, screws and a screwdriver.

The sequence of gluing linoleum coating includes several steps. First, you need to put linoleum on a wooden floor and mark it according to the size of the room. All the resulting surplus must be cut off and removed, leaving stocks on the sides.

Now you can start gluing linoleum with your own hands. The material needs to be lifted with the base up, freeing up part of the room. The free surface of the floor is smeared with glue, which is applied with a wide trowel. Use the adhesive according to the manufacturer's instructions. Special attention pay attention to the holding time of the glue before gluing the linoleum.

If it is written that the glue after being applied to the floor must be kept for 30 minutes, then you must wait exactly half an hour. Strict adherence to the prescription on the label guarantees a good result and great quality floor covering.

Laying linoleum on a wooden floor is accompanied by constant smoothing of the material on the surface. First, it is recommended to smooth out the glued part of the linoleum with your hand, and then walk over it with a roller in order to finally get rid of the air that has got inside.

Welding the seam allows you to increase the life of the material.

The entire piece of linoleum is glued in the same way. At the joints, it is most convenient to use masking tape and silicone glue, which, after drying, remains colorless. At the sides of the joint, tape is first glued, then the glue itself is applied. After the joints are well glued, the masking tape is removed. To make the seam joint the most reliable, weld seams can be used.

After the linoleum is glued to the wooden floor and the glue itself has dried well, you can start. The choice of skirting board is chosen based on the preferences of the owner of the house. It can be a solid skirting board made of wood or its analogue made of plastic, which will hide the unevenness of the walls, and, if necessary, hide the wiring.

The color scheme of plinth and linoleum can be different. You can choose a plinth to match the main floor covering, or you can choose a lighter or darker version. The final decision will depend on the idea of the interior of the room.

A plinth made of wood is attached to the wall with screws or nails; for plastic, liquid nails are used. It is not recommended to fix the plinth to the linoleum itself, since when the coating shrinks, the plinth can move away from the wall, which will not look very beautiful.

It is necessary to lay linoleum on wooden floors very carefully, since it will be problematic to fix all defects discovered later. Floor bulges usually occur if the floor is poorly cleaned or the adhesive has been applied unevenly before installation. When gluing the material, the glue must be applied in a continuous way, and the linoleum itself must be smoothed and pressed well with a load.

To remove the bubble formed after gluing the coating, it is necessary to pierce the linoleum in this place with an awl and release all the remaining air from it. Then you need to fill in the glue with a syringe through the hole and press this place for a couple of days with a bag of sand. The linoleum needs to expand and adhere.

In damp rooms, linoleum may come off. This can also happen due to poorly glued joints and water getting under the coating. The peeled off part of the linoleum sheet is folded back, cleaned and dried. Then glue is applied to the floor again, and the linoleum is carefully smoothed out and left under load for several days.

In flooring, the material of the floor covering is of great importance. Among the mass of varieties, such as laminate, parquet, parquet boards and ceramic tiles, linoleum occupies a special place. It is an alternative to all types of coatings, stands out favorably against their background, has a number of advantages and differences.

Laying linoleum is a separate topic, the knowledge of which will allow you to carry out flooring quickly and without visible defects.

Importance of material

Laying linoleum depends on the type of material. If you approach the choice based solely on external data, during the operation of the floor covering, it may turn out that it is not intended for this type of room and does not correspond to the passability of a particular zone. The raw materials have obvious differences due to the thickness, protective layer, substrate material, external characteristics... It is different in terms of service life, degree of practicality, resistance to moisture and frequent cleaning.

In addition, the grade of the material is also different: the premium texture is subject to the class, shade and specific pattern.

Advantages and disadvantages

The choice of flooring is based on the study of the characteristics of the material, which consist of strong and weaknesses... This allows you to understand the degree of appropriateness of laying linoleum in a given room and determine its service life.

Among the positive characteristics of linoleum are the following.

  • Easy installation and versatility for indoor use different types(can be placed in the living room, kitchen, children's room, study, hallway, home library, toilet, bathroom, corridor);
  • Variability of width, due to which it is possible to simplify the flooring and perform seamless technology by laying the canvas with a solid sheet;
  • A huge selection of colors for status materials, due to which the appearance of the room at the end of the renovation will be special, hinting at the well-being and delicate taste of the owners of the house;
  • Antistatic structure of the material and fire resistance, due to which it does not attract dust and is resistant to combustion;

  • Long service life with the proper level of the protective layer (enough for 10-15 years or more);
  • Resistant to moisture, wear, and pressing under heavy furniture;
  • Good sound insulation properties, thus reducing annoying noise extraneous sounds;
  • Compatibility with the "warm floor" system and an even distribution of warm air throughout the room, thanks to which you can step on the floor with bare feet;
  • Different price range, which allows you to lay the floor covering, taking into account your own preferences and the budget planned for the purchase.

A unique property of linoleum is its compatibility with different finishes floor coverings: it can be combined with ceramic tiles, parquet and parquet tiles, supplemented with laminate, framed with porcelain stoneware. This method of floor installation gives a lot of design possibilities and allows you to play up the lack of space, zone the room, giving it an unobtrusive organization.

The combination provides for the use of materials of up to three varieties of different colors and textures, which is convenient, allows you to hide styling defects by means of sills and decorative skirting boards.

Minuses

Laying linoleum is a rational investment of money. However, with a lot of advantages, the material has several negative nuances.

  • Price square meter the material increases with an increase in the thickness of the protective layer;
  • Among the assortment on sale, not all raw materials are natural: not all buyers are satisfied with synthetics;
  • The greater the weight, the more difficult it is to transport the material and the greater the possibility of breaking the integrity of the coating in the process of inaccurate delivery;
  • Depending on the quality and class, linoleum can dry out at constant temperature drops, which leads to a loss of elasticity of the material;
  • Laying should be carried out as accurately as possible: non-compliance with the technology can cause waves to form on the floor surface.

Not every type of linoleum is easy to work with: if you leave air under it, the coating can swell. If the area of the room is more than the maximum permissible width of the canvas, the joints cannot be avoided.

Joints are a sore spot for laying. They are weak, susceptible to moisture, therefore, to extend the service life, you need to take care of the floor covering as carefully as possible: you cannot fill it with water, it is important to immediately remove dirt from the surface until they become part of the pattern.

Types of linoleum

In order not to find out negative surprises in the work, and the floor covering was the best, it is important to know the types of linoleum that are determined by its structure. Linoleum is a polymer-based finishing material, which often consists of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), has a dense structure and a porous base. It can be homogeneous, consisting of one layer, or heterogeneous, multi-layer.

The first type combines all the layers into one, so it is painted through and erases rather slowly. The second type allows you to clearly see the different layers by looking at the linoleum cut from the side.

Each type is unique in its own way, allowing you to choose a decent material option for floor cladding. The only thing is that they are distinguished by a protective layer, which is larger in heterogeneous species.

In addition to PVC linoleum, companies offer other types of flooring for sale, among which the following are especially in demand.

  • Natural made from oxidized linseed oil, resins of deciduous trees, wood flour, limestone, jute and color pigments of natural origin (plain linoleum with a service life of up to 40 years, excellent bactericidal properties and practical qualities);
  • Alkyd, which is distinguished by a woven base, the presence of alkyd resins and various pigments in the composition (it has a high level of sound and thermal insulation compared to polyvinyl chloride linoleum, however, it is fragile and prone to cracking);
  • Rubber, which is a product of processing waste rubber with the addition of a new rubber top layer (moisture-resistant material with high elasticity).

By the type of wear resistance and purpose, linoleum is divided into three types.

  • Domestic;
  • Semi-commercial;
  • Commercial.

What is the difference?

Household flooring- a cheap class of material that wears off faster than analogues, looks simpler, has a smooth surface, does not have texture. Its colors are often stylistic, in the form of ornaments, they do not differ in premium quality and relief.

The material is suitable for areas with low traffic, over time, wears out in the most working areas of the canvas.

Semi-commercialization better than a household counterpart, stronger, more resistant to abrasion. It looks more expensive, has more solid colors for parquet, laminate, marble and tiles. The coating is resistant to high weight loads, intended for flooring in residential buildings, studios, showrooms, shops.

The material can have a smooth, embossed surface, often has anti-skid properties and is intended for areas with medium and high traffic.

Commercial linoleum- premium grade of flooring of this material... Its front side practically does not differ from its semi-commercial counterpart. It is quite solid, it can have anti-slip, antibacterial impregnation, it often contains natural ingredients, which increases its cost.

This linoleum differs in price and weight, which depends on the protective film.

The flooring range can be complemented by different effects. In addition to anti-slip and fire resistance, the canvases are treated with antistatic impregnation, they are made with a 3D effect. The texture can be rough, reminiscent of the structure of wood planks.

By the type of base, linoleum comes with a foamed or felt base. This factor determines the need for a substrate. If the linoleum has insulation, the substrate is not needed: the felt will perform the function of sound and heat insulation, and at the same time hide the unevenness of the floor.

Protection

Protection is the main difference between linoleums of different classes. If in the store the sellers answer at length enough what the difference is, in reality everything is simple: household, semi-commercial and commercial linoleum have different thickness protective film located on top of the canvas (with front side). It is she who saves the surface from losing its attractiveness in appearance and determines different level weight load on the surface of the web. To understand the difference, it is worth looking at the linoleum from the side.

  • In the household class, the film is almost invisible and is 0.1-0.2 mm;
  • Semi-commercials have better protection: 0.3-0.4 mm;
  • Commerce is safer: its protective layer ranges from 0.6 mm to 1 mm.

To choose the right one, you can focus on weight: if you take canvases of the same width, the weight of a household linen will be the lightest, while commercial linoleum may be overwhelming. Moreover, an interesting nuance: the thicker the protective layer, the thinner the foamed linoleum base. Sometimes, of course, there are exceptions, but more often the thickness of commerce is minimal and reaches no more than 3 mm.

Such linoleum can be laid exclusively on a flat, almost perfect surface.

To choose the best type of material that is optimally convenient for laying, you should take a closer look at semi-commercial: its characteristics are enough for the floor to be perfectly flat, and the surface does not wear off even in areas with high traffic. Commercial linoleum was originally created for industrial premises... However, its high resistance to loads has been noted by many buyers, so today commerce is often a decoration for the floor of apartments and country houses... Many users like it much more than laminate, which in the case high humidity swells.

If you want to buy a commercial class flooring, it is better to pay attention to the option with a protection of 0.6-0.8 mm and the maximum possible thickness. So the weight load will be maximum, and the unevenness of the floor will not stand out.

Linoleum for tiles

Tiled linoleum is an analogue of the roll variety and a kind of alternative ceramic tiles... In structure, it is no different from linoleum in its usual form. Here is the same classification, the presence of household, semi-commercial and commercial categories, the similarity of the composition of the layers and the same level of thickness of the protective film.

The difference is appearance: Linoleum tiles are tiles of the same size and color, which are laid like a ceramic floor covering.

Raw materials are so similar to tiles that at first glance, it can be difficult to distinguish them.

Otherwise, unchanged: the characteristics are similar to the roll analogue, the service life depends on the quality of laying, the durability of the coating is determined by the intensity of use of the working surface, the flat surface depends on the calibration, the seams are made at will. This type of laying allows the combination of material of different textures: tiled linoleum can be combined with an analogue of a different shade and color, supplemented with tiles and, less often, with a laminate.

Parquet is inappropriate here: too much small parts can break the nobility of the flooring, thereby adding a sense of clutter to the room.

How to calculate the required amount of material?

Today, for the convenience and simplification of construction work, there are special calculator programs. They help you calculate the correct amount of raw materials, saving customers unnecessary waste. However, this invention is not always necessary, because in any case, you will have to measure the room. In order not to be mistaken, it is important to take into account the maximum distance in length and width by checking it at several points of each of the walls.

If there is an assistant who can hold the tape measure, it is even more convenient: this way the measurement accuracy will be greater, because the edge of the metal tape will not slide and move.

All data should be immediately written down on paper, depicting a schematic drawing of the room in which the installation is carried out. This is important in order to take into account the direction of the pattern and the addition of an allowance for a threshold, another protrusion (for example, for a battery, a niche) or a joint with the floor covering of an adjacent room.

You need to focus on the largest indicators (this also applies to asymmetric types of premises). To the obtained measurements, add 7 cm in length and width. This eliminates the risk of lack of material. If the canvas is not solid, they are repelled from the length, taking into account an allowance of 7 cm, they are guided by two lengths, while not forgetting to give an allowance for joining.

Preparation of the base

Floor preparation - important condition installation. The final aesthetic perception depends on the quality of this stage. It is not enough to buy a beautiful covering - it needs to be laid correctly and neatly.

The process includes several work points.

  • Preparing the room (completely freeing the room from furniture);
  • Dismantling floor plinth and door platbands(if they are);
  • Assessment of the condition of the floor, its leveling in height, getting rid of cracks, pits, bumps.

The type of styling matters. For example, if linoleum will be located on a concrete base, the surface should be perfectly flat.

If it is planned to lay it on fiberboard, the floor can be trimmed by means of a mixture of cement and sand in the required proportions, masking the cracks pointwise. If the quality of the mixture leaves much to be desired, tile adhesive of the Ceresit or Unis brands can be used as the cement composition. Their consistency is perfectly balanced, the mixtures are stirred without lumps, mask the floor surface evenly and do not crumble after drying.

It is not recommended to level the surface with gypsum-based levelers: if indoors high humidity, such an equalizer will quickly move away from the floor in layers. It is designed for walls and does not provide for weight bearing, so these experiments are devoid of common sense.

If, for some reason, water gets under the linoleum, this leveling agent will nullify the entire installation, adding the work of re-peeling the coating.

After the floor is leveled, it is vacuumed to remove dust and cement residues. It is important that it is dry and clean: if there are remnants of the mixture on the surface, the floor under the linoleum in these places can creak and create unsightly bumps. Then you can start styling.

Preparation for styling

Preparatory stage laying linoleum depends on the method of laying the material. Usually, linoleum is laid on the wall without forming a bend, although often the canvas is wrapped on the wall, giving it the appearance of a kind of narrow plinth. The second method is used for finishing commercial flooring in industrial premises. This makes it easier to clean the floor without touching the wall. In this case, it is important to calculate the allowance for the linoleum plant on the wall.

When performing flooring without bending, it is important to properly cut the canvas. It is customized to the characteristics of a particular room in different ways: close to the baseboard or with a small gap to the walls.

  1. The first method allows you to leave the skirting board before laying, but needs an accurate contour of the linoleum and its snug fit to the bottom edge. The skirting board can be matched to the color of the linoleum.
  2. The second option is the best solution: often under the influence of different temperature regimes linoleum can stretch, so it needs a little space (0.5 cm) to lie flat, without forming waves against the general background.

You can lay linoleum on different floors.

  • Parquet;
  • Hardboard;
  • Concrete floor;
  • Old linoleum.

You may need the following tools for styling.

  • Roller;
  • Metal slats;
  • Ruler with corner;
  • Cutting tool (construction knife);
  • Welding tool;

  • Spatula (for glue method);
  • Primer;
  • Mastic;
  • Cold welding adhesive (joint sealant).

The laying technology provides for the preparation of linoleum. Since linoleum is in a roll for a long time, it must lie down before installation. Before direct laying, it is spread on a flat surface and left for 2-3 days. During this time, the canvas takes a level position and allows you to make a more accurate fit to the measurements of the room.

Soundproofing the floor in the apartment

To make the floor surface smoother and warmer, sound insulation is placed under the linoleum. It can be a subfloor on logs, leveling and insulating the base, or a soundproofing plate, which is made when arranging a new screed. However, the simplest option for sound insulation is a linoleum underlay, which is made of different materials and often complements the preparation of the floor on a heat and sound insulating underlay.

This stage is a necessity for installation, however, not all types of material are suitable for work. It is worth paying attention to raw materials with an elastic structure and high bursting resistance.

These include the following.

  • Membrane sound-absorbing materials;
  • One-layer texound made of aragonite and flexible polymers (sometimes on a felt basis);
  • Tear-resistant fiberglass without harmful impurities;
  • Izoshum (noise stop) with hydro and thermal insulation properties;
  • Izolon is a derivative of polyethylene foam;
  • Cork backing made of pressed crushed cork chips;
  • Jute fiber backing.

Having prepared the base and taking care of the heat of the coating and sound insulation, they start laying.

DIY installation process

The mounting technology depends on the type of surface. In small rooms with dimensions up to 20 sq. m. linoleum is not glued to the floor surface. Laying without glue is the simplest and is called dry. The main condition is a dry surface. Linoleum is placed on the floor, the edges are trimmed, the edges are attached to the base (if it is fiberboard or wooden base, they can be nailed with roofing nails at a distance of about 5 cm).

So that the edge does not collapse over time, it is fixed by means of aluminum strips, making holes in them the size of the nail heads.

In the case of a concrete base, holes are pre-drilled for plugs, into which screws will then be screwed. However, if the house leads, over time, the screws can rise to the top, breaking the harmony of a perfectly flat floor. In this case, it is enough to simply attach the linoleum around the perimeter. The joints are glued, sometimes nailed.

The second option looks less beautiful, so if you can buy a solid sheet, you should forget about saving: a monolithic floor is more practical.

Step-by-step instruction laying linoleum on glue implies two ways.

With separate drying

Before styling, back side material is treated with a primer. This minimizes the amount of bubbles impeding perfect operation. It is important to prime the base with an even layer without gaps and give the linoleum and the base a drying time of about a day. Each surface is dried separately without touching. Then mastic is applied to the seamy side of the linoleum over the primer.

After that, linoleum is determined on the floor surface and the flooring is smoothed using a special roller for optimal fit, rolling it over the surface and evenly pressing the canvas to the floor.

To properly lay the material against the wall, you need to use a spatula, pressing the linoleum around the perimeter.

When space is tight

If it is not possible to dry the linoleum and the base of the floor separately, you can lay the canvas on the floor and bend it at least half a meter. The primer is carried out in parts, after which the glue (mastic) is applied to the floor surface, although for reliability it is better to add an adhesive composition to the back of the linoleum. So that there is not a lot of glue, it is spread over the surface with a spatula, removing the excess.

When gluing the floor covering, it is rolled with a special heavy roller or wiped with a cork board. This eliminates air bubbles and helps to distribute the adhesive evenly between the floor and the back of the flooring.

Seam processing

A solid sheet of material is pressed with plinths. However, if the coating has joints in a conspicuous place, they are glued by means of "cold welding" using special glue. The product is intended for filling seams, it can be transparent or the color of the material. It is used with an automatic welding machine. In addition to "welding", you can use linoleum profile tape to join the seams. She herself squeezes together the cover inserted into it from both sides.

Laying linoleum tiles

With regards to tiled linoleum, laying it implies leveling the floor, otherwise the fragments will stand out against each other. After preparing the floor, it is primed, the center of the room is determined. To do this, pull the threads diagonally from the corners of the room. The first tile is placed in the center: glue is applied to its back side, while retreating from the edges of the fragment.

It is important to roll each piece with a roller. After gluing all the fragments, a sealant is applied to the coating surface.

To make the look of the flooring pleasing to the eye, looking professional and solid, you can take note of a few tips from experienced craftsmen.

  • When laying marble-like or plain linoleum with joints, it is preferable to lay the canvas in the direction of the light: this way the coating will look monolithic;
  • You can use double-sided tape to glue the joints;
  • It is better to purchase a primer deep penetration: this way the adhesion of the two surfaces is maximized;
  • Using oil-chalk mastic, the base can be primed with linseed oil;

  • If the mastic is bituminous or rubber-bituminous, instead of a primer, you can use mastic diluted with gasoline in a ratio of 1: 3;
  • You cannot immediately unfold the roll and lay the material on an uneven floor: high-quality work does not tolerate haste (both the material and the floor need to be prepared);
  • If the linoleum leaves most of the base, it lacks mastic: you need to carefully remove the linoleum, clean it of the adhesive, re-prime and lay it.

Experts pay attention to the fact that for some types of flooring, brands develop their own adhesives. This factor matters: if you ignore the manufacturer's recommendations, put linoleum on another glue, you can spoil the structure of the material. If this happens, carpet, which can cover the floor, will help save the case.

Linoleum is one of the most popular, budgetary and easy-to-install floor coverings. Anyone who wants to simply study the instructions and prepare the necessary devices to independently perform the linoleum flooring. The result is a beautiful and unpretentious floor covering. Modern linoleum can imitate the textures of a wide variety of materials, which allows you to choose flooring for a room decorated in any design style.

For self-laying linoleum on the floor, you will need the material in question and additional accessories.

  1. Putty.
  2. Glue.
  3. Double-sided adhesive tape.
  4. Reiki for arranging joints.
  5. Nails.
  6. Sharp knife.
  7. Ruler.
  8. Yardstick.
  9. Marker.
  10. Notched trowel.
  11. An ordinary small spatula.
  12. Hot welding tools.
  13. Special skating rink.
  14. Scissors.

The given set can be reduced depending on the chosen method of fixing the flooring. In this moment, you will be able to navigate after studying the further provisions of the instructions.

Base device

Regardless of whether you will lay linoleum on a wooden or concrete base, the surface needs careful preliminary leveling.

First step. Carefully seal up any visible cracks with putty.

Second step. Sand the filled surface.

Step three. Perform local repair of the collapsed screed points using an appropriate concrete mortar... If the damage is large and there are a lot of them, fill in a new one. concrete screed after getting rid of the old layer. Let the screed dry.

Fourth step. Pour a special self-leveling mixture onto the screed. At this stage, follow the instructions specifically for your mixture.

First step. Buy plywood sheets with a thickness of at least 0.5 cm.

Second step. Lay the plywood on the floor and attach the sheets to the base with self-tapping screws so that the heads of the fasteners are recessed into the material.

Step three. Putty the seams between the plywood sheets.

Quite often, home craftsmen have a question: is it possible to mount a new flooring on an existing linoleum? In theory, this is possible. However, for the successful implementation of such an idea, you need to remove the baseboards and carefully stretch the old linoleum.

As a result, you can spend more time on such preparation than on dismantling the coating and leveling the base.

Most experts agree that before laying new material, the surface must be cleaned of any kind of old coatings. Otherwise, the decision is yours.

The base is carefully leveled and free from any kind of contamination. Move on to further work.

First step. Measure all sides of the room to determine maximum width and length.

Second phase. Try to determine the width of the linoleum so that the number of seams in the flooring is minimal. Do not forget to add to the calculated values a margin of the order of 10-20% for the selection of the picture. The specific stock is determined according to the complexity of the pattern.

You also need to add 10 mm of margin on each side to compensate for possible unevenness of the walls.

Stage three. Draw a floor plan on paper. It will help you calculate the required amount of material faster and more conveniently.

Stage four. Head to a specialty store with your plan and calculations.

Linoleum is divided into material for household, semi-commercial and commercial use. Additionally, the coating is classified according to the intensity of use. All these points are reflected in the marking of the coating, with which the consultant should help you figure it out.

After delivering linoleum to your home, do not rush to immediately unpack it, especially if the weather is cold outside. Leave the material in the room for about a couple of days to allow it to adapt to the ambient temperature.

Spread a roll of material around the room and leave it on for a while. This will give the coating the opportunity to mature and take the shape of the base. After that, you can proceed directly to the flooring of the material, however, first read the important recommendations of specialists so that the work goes with the least effort, and the finished coating is of the highest quality.

What you need to know for successful linoleum flooring?

When performing repair and finishing works professionals adhere to a number of important recommendations. Consider them and you, performing linoleum flooring with your own hands.

Observe the required temperature and humidity conditions. Specific recommendations are given on the packaging or in the instructions for the material. Be sure to check them out. Violation of the manufacturer's recommendations will lead to quick peeling of linoleum with parallel decay and destruction of the base.

Do not lay linoleum on an uneven base. Open joints reinforced concrete panels and the joints of elements of prefabricated screeds are also prohibited.

Linoleum is laid in the last stages of room renovation... Wooden plugs are pre-installed in the walls for installation of skirting boards. The nests for these elements are created at a height of about 15-20 mm from the floor surface with an average pitch of 1 m.

Linoleum flooring can only be performed on a pre-primed base. Any tool can be used to apply the primer.

The joints of individual linoleum canvases are usually fixed using cold welding. This material contributes to obtaining a compound with high strength characteristics. To get perfectly smooth joints, the linoleum sheets are first laid with a slight overlap, and then the excess material is cut off along the construction line. If desired, the joints can be decorated with moldings - special decorative plates.

A step-by-step guide to linoleum flooring

First step. Cut out the linoleum according to the pattern.

Second step. Spread the canvases on the floor of the room and let them sit for two days. During this time, creases and dents should disappear. It is important that the room is not colder than +18 degrees.

Step three. Remove leveled linoleum from the floor. Clean and prime the substrate thoroughly. Let the primer dry and apply the special adhesive to the floor using a notched trowel. Let the glue soak for the time specified by the manufacturer in the instructions.

Fourth step. Place a strip of linoleum on the floor, flatten it and flatten it firmly with a trowel. It will allow you to get rid of excess air under the decking. Start attaching linoleum from any wall.

In the end, you just need to isolate the seams, install decorative strips if desired and mount the baseboard.

Seam insulation rules

Hot and cold welding methods can be used to fix the seams. The specific method is selected taking into account the type of flooring and the complexity of the seams. Hot welding allows for higher strength seams. It is used in the installation of commercial and, as a rule, semi-commercial linoleum. At home, simple cold welding is usually sufficient.

It is carried out using a special compressor. It blows air onto the tools. The function of the bonding material is performed by special filler rods.

Seams are welded after drying adhesive composition used to connect the linoleum to the base, i.e. in about a day.

Much easier to implement. Such seam insulation does not require the use of any special equipment.

There are two types of cold welding adhesives: for newly laid floorings and for floorings that have been installed a long time ago. The second glue has a thicker consistency. The principle of operation is the same for both types of glue.

The mechanism of action is extremely simple: you fill the seam space with glue, a special composition melts the edges of the canvases, which leads to their reliable fixation.

Features of installation of antistatic linoleum

There is a separate type of coating in question known as antistatic linoleum. This material is produced in the form of tiles, which are fixed with glue. When dry, the coating retains its conductivity.

Antistatic linoleum is laid using a different technology. First you need to apply static conductive copper strips to the base. These strips are connected into a single structure and connected to a common grounding system.

When laying antistatic linoleum, it is important that the tiles adhere as closely as possible to the substrate. The air from under the deck is removed using a special heavy roller weighing 65-70 kg.

When trimming and trimming the material, be careful not to hit the copper strips. Exceptionally hot welding is suitable for the processing of joints. The air temperature in the process of performing such welding rises to several hundred degrees.

The welding cord is available in a variety of colors. There are even fluorescent cords. Choose a specific option, taking into account the design of the room and your own preferences.

Linoleum belongs to the category of the least whimsical materials to maintain. However, this material still requires some attention from the owner.

To prevent the flooring from fading and cracking, do not use active cleaning agents to wash the linoleum. It is better to use formulations specially designed for cleaning this material.

Before arranging furniture, it is advisable to put on special soft caps on its legs, which will not allow heavy elements of furniture to leave holes and more serious damage in the linoleum.

Now you know how to lay linoleum yourself. Follow the instructions given, and you can make repairs no worse than a professional master, spending, at the same time, exclusively on the purchase of the necessary materials and accessories.
