Decide on the shape and size

In order for the product to serve you for a long time and it was convenient to use it, you need to choose the right size and shape. Speaking about the form, we highlight several options for wooden tables:

  1. rectangular;
  2. square;
  3. round;
  4. oval.

Kitchen table rectangular shape- the most common model that will easily fit into any interior - it can be placed against the wall, or in the center of the kitchen.

Square products are compact. They are chosen for small kitchens. Such tables are suitable for small families consisting of no more than 4 people.

Round and oval products allow you to seat more people, so this form is in demand in large families. Round or oval table is chosen for large rooms, where he will stand in the center of the room, since such a table will not work in a corner or move it to the wall.

When choosing the shape of the product, consider the style of the kitchen, the dimensions of the room and the number of family members.

How to make a kitchen table with your own hands and not miscalculate with the size? There are standards for calculating the size of a dining table. Taken as standard wooden table able to accommodate 4 persons. For each person, there is a countertop area equal to 60x40 cm. With such a seating arrangement, people will not interfere with each other.

The size of the kitchen table should be such that at least 20 cm² of free space remains in the center for serving items (dish, vase of flowers, etc.).

Considering all the nuances standard table will be 75 cm in height, 100-120 cm in length and about 80 cm in width.

Necessary tools and materials

To make a table you will need:

  • finished tabletop 60x120 cm or 4 wood bars 100 cm each;
  • two boards 80 cm long (for the frame);
  • two boards 40 cm long (for jumpers);
  • furniture dowels;
  • finished table legs 73-75 cm;
  • pencil and ruler;
  • tape measure and gloves.

Before assembling a dining table in the kitchen, prepare materials and tools: a planer, Sander or sandpaper a circular saw or a jigsaw, a drill (with an 8 mm drill), wood glue or PVA glue. For fine finish table you will need an antiseptic, varnish and stain. Don't forget your safety glasses.

What tree to use

What wood are kitchen tables made of? In order for the dining table to serve for a long time, its surface does not swell or dry out, and it is also resistant to various damage, give preference to hard and dense types of wood: beech, walnut, cherry or oak. Such a tree lends itself well to processing and drying, while maintaining its structure. A table made of solid wood of such species will turn out to be durable and resistant to damage. It is better to refuse from pine, fir, willow - these types of wood are soft and loose, they will not endure mechanical stress.

Preparation and processing of wooden parts

Before starting work, soak the boards with an antiseptic and allow them to dry. Details can be processed at home.

Carefully sand the boards and countertop with a planer or grinder. Walk through wooden surface sandpaper. The better you process the wood, the smoother and more pleasant to the touch the surface of the product will be.

tabletop

If you purchased a finished wood countertop from a store, you can skip this step. If you decide to make a countertop yourself, let's start manufacturing.

It is necessary to prepare 4 boards of the same length - 100 cm each. If the boards were not previously sawn, they must be trimmed in length and width. So that the countertop does not swell and does not disperse from exposure to moisture, lay the boards with a pattern to each other.

The easiest way to assemble a countertop is rallying. Boards need to be interconnected with glue and furniture dowels. To do this, drill grooves in the bars with a depth of 10-12 mm at a distance of 10-15 cm from each other. If you chose thin boards for the future table, make holes 6-8 mm deep.

Carefully sand the surface of the boards, paying attention to Special attention edges. So the workpieces will fit snugly against each other.

Pour glue into the holes made. Apply glue to the furniture dowels and drive them into the holes, alternately connecting all four bars together. Residual glue can be removed with sandpaper.

legs

The next step is to attach the legs. To do this, you will need table legs purchased in advance and two boards of 40 cm each. The legs will need to be fastened with a jumper board by drilling two holes in it, retreating 1.5 cm from the edge of the leg. Screw the screws into the holes made and secure with glue. Connect the boards to the legs by tapping with a hammer. Let the glue dry, for this, leave the parts for 12 hours.

Tsarga

The next step will be the manufacture of a support for the future table, which fastens the surface of the table top and four legs together, this is structural element called king. To do this, you will need boards 80 cm long. Fasten the drawer side with legs in the same way - connecting the parts with screws and glue. Drill holes for the screws that you will sit the countertop on. When the frame is completely dry, connect the table top to the frame with screws.

The role of the kitchen table in everyday life is difficult to overestimate. It is considered the main attribute in the kitchen, and not without reason - after all, it is at the table that the whole family most often gathers, celebrating various events that take place in life.

Speaking of kitchen tables, the dining table most often comes to mind. However, kitchen tables are used not only for a feast and differ in their functions. So, the bar table perfectly divides the space into zones. It can be used as a dining room for a small number of people, usually 2-3 people. It is especially relevant when you need to save space. The sink table serves as the basis for embedding the sink.

Thinking about purchasing a kitchen table, you can consider the possibility of making it yourself. This option, firstly, will save some money. Secondly, to surprise guests with the original shape of the product, unusual design or decoration method. Thirdly, to master the skills of carpentry. And, of course, enjoy the work done and the final result.

After making sure that you need to make a kitchen table yourself, you need to determine a number of important parameters for yourself. Namely, decide what form it will be, choose a design option, calculate the dimensions of the product and the size of individual parts, and decide on the material for their manufacture.

You will learn how to make a table with your own hands in the video:

Kinds

Tables differ in execution options: classic, folding, transformer, corner, folding or hanging, retractable. At will and need, the table can be with a cabinet or with drawers. The choice of execution option depends primarily on the size of the kitchen and the semantic load.

For small kitchens, most likely, ideal solution there will be a folding option or a folding, bar, corner. Corner tables can also be folding or folding.

Transforming tables solve the problem when you need a 2 in 1 solution, which greatly expands the possibilities of its use. So, with a slight movement of the hand graceful coffee table can easily be turned into a full dining table.

The sliding table saves space well and is built, as a rule, into kitchen sets.

With the help of a bar table, you can divide the room into zones of both a small area and a large one.

materials

The materials from which the table can be made are striking in their diversity and require a clear idea of themselves.

For this purpose, arrays of various tree species such as oak, coniferous trees. If a beginner is going to be involved in production, then pine is perfect, as it is much easier to process. Solid wood furniture is considered "capricious" and requires special treatment. It can burn out under the influence of direct sun rays, absorb odors, it is badly affected by changes in humidity and temperature. Good points This material is eco-friendly, durable. Solid wood furniture looks very elegant and expensive.

  • Chipboard- a material that is quite common and very often used for the manufacture of furniture. Produced from dry wood chips and resin by pressing. Among the minuses, one can single out environmental insecurity. Plus - relatively inexpensive cost.
  • MDF considered more eco-friendly material compared to chipboard, but is also more expensive. Obtained by mixing wood chips with melamine-modified carbide resins and pressing them. Minus - it is highly flammable, while even rapidly incandescent objects, not to mention open flames, pose a potential risk of ignition.
  • An alternative to chipboard and MDF can be furniture board . It has a relatively inexpensive cost. It is a durable and environmentally friendly material. It consists of glued bars, pulled together by a press.

  • Metal can also be used to make a table. Most often used for this purpose stainless steel. The cost of such material is quite high, and a cold surface will require the use of tablecloths or napkins. However, the sparkling appearance of such an attribute is sure to attract everyone's attention.

Dimensions and shape

The most common form is rectangular. A rectangular table is convenient in that it can hold enough a large number of a person, while requiring less usable area than a round one. It can be easily pushed against the wall. But because of sharp corners both rectangular and square options considered the most dangerous.

Round- applies for usable area 1.5-2 times the area required for rectangular table for the same number of people. It is considered that round table stronger than other forms create a feeling of comfort in the room.

photos

oval tables, as well as rectangular rounded corners combine the advantages of rectangular and oval shapes. Oval tables are considered the most elegant and aristocratic.

Dimensions can vary from large to compact. If necessary, the design of the compact table can be provided in such a way that it can be increased. So, for example, a folding table in the folded state takes small space, when unfolded, can accommodate a fairly large number of people.

An important point is the calculation of dimensions. If the matter concerns standard cuisine, area from 6 to 8 square meters, drawings and diagrams will show a standard solution with a height of 750 mm, length and width from 800 * 500 mm to 1200 * 600 mm, respectively.

For a correct calculation, it is necessary to multiply the number of persons by 60 (perimeter per person). But, as for the width, the width from 800 to 1200 mm is optimal here. Because narrow tables are difficult to serve, and wide ones are not very comfortable to sit at. For a round table, you need to measure the circumference using the formula - diameter * 3.14 (pi number).

Step-by-step instruction

  1. If you intend to make this kitchen attribute yourself, you must definitely make a drawing.
  2. To make a table from solid wood, you will need the following tools: a planer, a grinder or a grinder, electric jigsaw, circular saw, drill (with a 6-8 mm drill), screwdriver, sandpaper, self-tapping screws (30-35 mm), wood glue, dowels, clamps, pencil, tape measure, gloves and goggles.
  3. It is necessary to buy supports (legs) for the table, which can be different - from ordinary rectangular to curly ones.
  4. For a countertop 80 cm wide, you will need four boards 120 centimeters long. They must be dry.
  5. For smoothness, the countertop must be sanded well. Joints must be processed in such a way as to achieve full contact with each other.
  6. To avoid deformation of the countertop from excessive moisture, you need to lay the boards with a pattern towards each other. To connect the boards you will need dowels.
  7. At the ends of the boards that will be connected, make holes with an 8 cm drill. The distance of the holes from each other should be 10-15 cm. Then these places must be sanded and greased with glue on the end, holes and dowels. Drive the dowels into the holes and thus connect the tabletop. Excess adhesive must be removed.
  8. Using screws and glue, it is necessary to connect the transverse and longitudinal boards with legs. We make two holes in the longitudinal boards on top, they will be useful for attaching the tabletop. Wait 12 hours. Install table top.

Cover the finished product with varnish, paint or stain. When using a stain, you need to take into account some nuances - choose the right thinner (if you don’t have enough experience, you need to use a slow thinner), the surface to be treated should be evenly sanded, it is important to properly adjust the gun (the torch should be oval and the applied layer should overlap the already applied half).

Traditionally, dowels are used to make wooden furniture. Such a connection is not visible and has a low cost.

For tables made of wood, it is appropriate to use wooden dowels, as they dry out at the same time in this case. For chipboard is better use plastic, since chipboard practically does not shrink.

But it can be difficult for inexperienced craftsmen to achieve the most accurate calculation when planning holes for dowels. Therefore, euroscrews or confirmations are an alternative to them. Of course, this increases the cost of the product somewhat, but facilitates manufacturing.

Kitchen table from laminated chipboard with metal legs can be quite a budget solution.

  1. Chipboard sheet can now be easily bought right size, or cut it yourself. The most common, plastic top coating makes the countertop sufficiently resistant to abrasion.
  2. For work you will need: an edge for end processing, screeds, connecting and end strips, designed to protect the joints and ends of the countertop from moisture, dirt, and grease. In addition, they make the look more aesthetic. To make such a table, you also need to purchase legs.
  3. On a chipboard sheet, mark the desired radius of curvature. Next, cut the tabletop according to a given shape with an electric jigsaw. To prevent chipping of the plastic surface, it is better to work with a saw with reversible teeth. Using a router, make a groove and fill the edging.
  4. Be sure to lay the sealant in both the edging and the top edge of the countertop. Remove excess sealant. There is a special solvent designed to clean surfaces from such materials. Using self-tapping screws, install the holders and put the legs on them.

It should be noted that such a table can be made quite easily and quickly.

The following method allows not only to collect modern model a wooden table without huge costs, but also to remake an old tabletop.

  1. This will require unnecessary boards of the same size, carpentry glue and three clamps.
  2. Boards must be laid out on work surface so that the middle of the board to be laid is at the junction of the two previous ones.
  3. Using wood glue and clamps, you need to fasten the boards together. Then align the edges and sand the surface. Sand the edges and cuts.
  4. If the table is made entirely, then for the manufacture of the legs you will need two boards and a corner that will connect them together, as well as wood glue.
  5. First we glue them with glue, then we strengthen them with a corner.
  6. around the perimeter, with inside where the legs are connected to the tabletop, we attach the bezel.
  7. Fasten the table top, legs and rim with a corner.
  8. Coat the surface with varnish.
  9. To make or restore a table, you can also use wooden pallets.
  10. To do this, we make the base of the countertop and attach the supports. For strength, you can come to the legs with wooden spacers.
  11. It is better to install wheels, as the countertop will be quite mobile.
  12. Fit a piece of plywood to the desired size and attach a bezel around the perimeter.
  13. We lay a piece of plywood on the base.

To decorate the tabletop, you can use chipped ceramic tiles or a mirror. We glue them to the countertop, fill the voids with grout for joints. At the finishing stage, everything can be painted or varnished. This method can also be used to restore damaged or old countertops.

There are many more ways interesting options decorating tabletops. One of which is dyeing through tulle. The result of this decoration is a beautiful lace pattern.

If you dream of having a good time on your personal plot, then you just need a large table that can accommodate a company of your friends and relatives. And you can do it yourself, spending quite a bit of time on it. In some cases, you may need an assistant, sometimes an extra pair of hands will not hurt.

This article is a detailed step by step instructions making a wooden table for a summer residence.

Materials:

  • A - Legs: bars 5×10 cm, 106 cm long (2 pcs.), 43 cm long (2 pcs.) and 56 cm long (2 pcs.);
  • B - Frame: bars 5 × 10 cm, 87 cm long (2 pcs.);
  • C - Table top: boards 5×15 cm, length 180 cm (6 pcs.);
  • D - Table top base: boards 5x15 cm, length 87 cm (2 pcs.), bars 5x10 cm, length 62 cm (2 pcs.).

The first stage of the project is the manufacture of table legs. Saw off the bars of the required size. To speed up the process, you can use a circular saw. Smooth out the edges of the bars and saw-off lines with sandpaper.

Connect the bars so that you get an X-shaped structure, and fasten them with 60 mm self-tapping screws, remembering to pre-drill the pilot holes. Lubricate the joints with glue. Make sure there are no cracks or gaps left.

Fasten each pair of legs with a horizontal bar using 60 mm self-tapping screws for this purpose. Cut off the ends of the bars, as shown in the figure.

Lay the boards intended for the manufacture of countertops on a flat surface. We advise you to place pieces of 6 mm plywood between them, this will allow you to form uniform gaps. Place the assembled table sides on the table top and secure them by screwing in the self-tapping screws at an angle of 90 mm. Before fixing, make sure that the legs and the tabletop are perpendicular using a spirit level.

Place the sawn pieces of 5x15 cm board on the underside of the table top and fix them with 60 mm self-tapping screws.

Saw off the ends of the bars, which will act as reinforcing supports for the structure, at an angle of 45º. Install the supports in their place and secure with 90mm self-tapping screws at an angle.

And finally, last but not least: check if the heads of the screws protrude above the wooden surface, and fill all the cracks and holes with wood putty.

Tip: To protect wood surfaces from the damaging effects of atmospheric moisture, coat them with several coats of exterior paint or stain.

Table with benches. Instruction with drawings

Materials:

  • A - Legs: bars 5x10 cm, length 95 cm (4 pieces);
  • B - Crossbeams: bars 5 × 10 cm long 160 cm (2 pcs.);
  • C - Tabletop fastening: bars 5×10 cm, 75 cm long (5 pcs.);
  • D - Inclined supports: bars 5 × 10 cm long 84 cm (2 pcs.);
  • E - Worktop: boards 5×10 cm, length 180 cm (14 pcs.).

It is worth starting work with the manufacture of legs. Since the legs of this table will be inclined, the ends of the 100 cm long bars should be cut at an angle of 30º. Connect the elements with 90 mm bolts.

Make sure the surface you are working on is fairly level. The mounted sidewalls of the table must be identical, only in this case you can hope for an excellent end result.

When the sides of the table are ready, you can start making a wooden tabletop. We recommend that you put it together on the ground (floor), and then fasten it to the legs with self-tapping screws.

Tip: Remember to check that the sides of the table are vertical with a spirit level. otherwise the end result of your work is unlikely to satisfy you.

Rigidly fix the entire structure with inclined supports. Their ends must first be cut at an angle of 26º.

Now it remains only to build benches. Saw off the boards of the desired size, place them on both sides of the table and, having previously drilled several pilot holes at a distance of at least 1 cm from the edges, secure with self-tapping screws.

Tip: To keep the seat boards evenly spaced, place studs or pieces of plywood between them before fixing them. Thanks to this little trick, all the gaps will be the same.

At the end of the work, pay attention to small, but very important touches. Fill all cracks and holes with wood putty. After the putty has dried, sand the wooden surfaces with medium-grit sandpaper.

Tip: Be sure to apply several coats of paint or stain to protect wood surfaces from water and sunlight.

Round table. We do it on our own in the country

Materials:

  • A - Base: bar 5x10 cm long 102.5 cm (1 pc.) and 47 cm long (2 pcs.), bars 2.5x10 cm 9 cm long (4 pcs.);
  • B - Racks: bars 10 × 10 cm, 60 cm long (4 pcs.);
  • C - Tabletop base: 5x10 cm bars 82.5 cm long (1 pc.) and 52.5 cm long (2 pcs.), 2.5x10 cm bars 47.5 cm long (4 pcs.) and 60 cm long (2 pcs.) ;
  • D - Tabletop: boards 2.5×15 cm long 195 cm (9 pcs.).

The first stage of the project is to create the base of the table. To articulate its constituent elements, use waterproof glue and self-tapping screws. Make sure that the corners formed by the joined beams are straight. To protect the assembled table base from rotting from rainwater, place it on small stands made from 2.5x10 cm board scraps.

Now you need to attach four posts made of square bars to the base. Before fixing, make sure they are vertical with a spirit level. The height of the legs may differ from those proposed by us, in this case, you should, first of all, focus on your own needs.

The most difficult stage of the project is the manufacture of countertops. Place the boards on a flat surface and mark the center of the square. Fasten one end of a 60 cm rail at this point. Rotating the second end of the rail, mark the outlines of the circle. A jigsaw with a sharp blade will allow you to make circular cuts at a high professional level.

After sawing the boards of the future tabletop, we recommend that you fasten them together with waterproof glue and additionally fix them with a few clamps. Attach the bars that serve as the base of the tabletop, as shown in the picture (yellow elements should be made from 5x10 cm bars, green - from 2.5x10 cm bars).

Tip: Use waterproof glue and galvanized self-tapping screws to fasten the battens to the table top (30mm screws for 2.5x10cm battens and 50mm for 5x10cm battens).

After the glue has dried, you must attach the legs to the base of the tabletop with 90mm self-tapping screws, pre-drilling pilot holes. Use a spirit level to check the perpendicularity of the legs and the tabletop.

To ensure that the result of your work corresponds to a high professional level, make sure that the heads of the self-tapping screws are recessed deep enough. Cover all cracks and holes with wood putty, after it dries, sand the surface with sandpaper.

Tip: Apply several coats of outdoor paint or wood stain to protect the table from moisture damage. To ensure that the base legs are also untouched by water, place the table on concrete surface and seal them tightly.

Now you know how to make your own picnic table. One has only to make a little effort, which will subsequently be rewarded with enthusiastic exclamations of friends and pleasant summer evenings spent with the family at a large table.

The table is an essential attribute kitchen interior. At the same time, it should not only combine style, beauty and comfort, but also be quite reliable. And what could be more reliable and durable than natural wood? The problem is that the quality wooden furniture It is not cheap, so not everyone can buy it for their kitchen. However, do not despair, because making a wooden table with your own hands is a completely feasible task for a person who is able to distinguish a screw from a nail and knows how to use a drill, a jigsaw and a grinding machine.

The choice of kitchen table design depends on several factors, such as the size of the kitchen, the number of occupants, and the interior design. If you look at the options that furniture manufacturers offer, then among the whole variety of designs, three categories can be distinguished:

  • tables of medium size for 4-6 people;
  • overall tables for a large family or receiving guests;
  • practical folding tables for small kitchens.

A table in the kitchen should combine three qualities: aesthetics, convenience and practicality.

To make a kitchen table with your own hands, you need to have a product drawing on hand, necessary set tools and at least some woodworking skills. Below are design options for standard, large and small kitchens with photo instructions and detailed description each stage of the manufacture of a wooden table.

Rectangular baluster dining table

Rectangular design with standard size 1200x600mm is considered the most popular due to its practicality. This table can easily accommodate a family of 4 people. In addition, it can be installed both in the center of the kitchen (if space permits), or placed close to the wall in order to save free space.

schematic drawing

In order to make the wooden table more attractive, we will use balusters instead of straight legs. If not at hand lathe, then such legs can be ordered separately at the nearest furniture workshop.

For your information! Balusters are figured pillars that are primarily found on the railings of stairs, balconies and roofs. However, the use of these elements in the manufacture of kitchen tables is also far from uncommon.

Drawing of a rectangular table on balusters

To assemble the product, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • 4 finished baluster legs 720 mm high;
  • furniture board 30 mm thick for countertops;
  • board 20x100mm for the frame;
  • wood screws about 30 mm long;
  • drill (screwdriver);
  • a circular saw;
  • grinder;
  • sandpaper of different grain sizes;
  • building level;
  • square;
  • roulette;
  • wood glue.

Step by step assembly instructions

A do-it-yourself kitchen table made of wood on balusters is made in the following sequence:

  1. We prepare the cross members of the frame. To do this, we cut a 100 mm board into 4 parts (2 by 400 mm, 2 by 1000 mm), after which we remove the burrs and bring the surface to a smooth state with sandpaper or grinder.

  1. We take the balusters and connect them in pairs with short crossbars (400 mm), making a small indent from the edge of the leg (about 15 mm). Fastening is carried out by means of glue and screws, which are twisted at an angle from the inside of the board.

Tip! In order to prevent the appearance of cracks, it is better to pre-make holes for the screws.

Fastening the short crossbars to the legs

  1. We connect the finished pairs of legs with long crossbars (1000 mm). The fastening algorithm is the same as in the previous step.

The final stage of mounting the table frame

  1. After we have made the frame of a wooden table with our own hands, we move on to the countertop. If it comes to the kitchen, then it is better to purchase a ready-made furniture board. Although for a gazebo or cottage, where the requirements for the appearance of the tabletop are not so strict, it can be assembled from grooved boards.

Furniture board for countertop

  1. The finished tabletop must be connected to the frame. To do this, we put it front side on a flat and clean surface, and evenly place the base with legs on top. The fastening of the crossbars to the tabletop is carried out with screws according to the same principle that was described in paragraph 2. However, in this case, you must be extremely careful not to drill through the countertop.

  1. On this, the manufacture of a kitchen table with your own hands can be considered almost complete. Final stage characterized by the process of grinding the surface, as well as the application of stain or varnish, the color of which is selected for the interior of the kitchen.

Note! The number of layers of varnish depends on the type of wood. Hardwoods, such as oak or hornbeam, do not absorb varnish well, so 1-2 coats are enough in this case. But for pine or spruce, you will need at least 3 layers of coating.

Wooden dining table with balusters

Wooden table for a large family

An oversized table at which you can dine with a large family or arrange a feast by inviting friends must have a reliable design. Regular four legs are usually not enough to hold a heavy tabletop. Therefore, it is necessary to take additional measures to strengthen the frame.

Product design

In this example, we will consider how to make a large wooden table for the kitchen with our own hands measuring 2337x978 mm (naturally, slight deviations in one direction or another are allowed).

Drawing big table wooden

Before starting work, lumber should be prepared for:

You will also need the following tools:

  • a circular saw;
  • jigsaw;
  • drill;
  • screws (4x65 mm);
  • drills (3 mm);
  • furniture glue;
  • pencil, tape measure, sandpaper.

Manufacturing steps

To make the table reliable and attractive appearance, you need to responsibly approach each stage. So let's get started:

  1. We make parts for the future wooden table from the purchased lumber with our own hands:
  • 2 upper transverse beams (38x90x978 mm);
  • 4 legs (38x90x695 mm);
  • 2 bowstrings (38x90x921 mm);
  • 1 longitudinal lower beam (38x90x1575 mm);
  • 1 longitudinal upper beam (38x90x1473 mm);
  • 2 braces (38x90x772 mm);
  • 7 blanks for countertops (38x90x2337);
  • 6 support bars (19x64x432 mm).

We carefully grind all the details, achieving an absolutely smooth surface without burrs.

Important! The quality of polishing a wooden surface depends on the right grit of emery. For primary grinding, the grain size should not be larger than 200 µm.

  1. We fasten the legs in pairs with each other using transverse beams (above) and a bowstring (below). We use two screws for each connection.

  1. With the help of a longitudinal lower beam, we connect two bowstrings together.

Fastening of the lower transverse beam

  1. We strengthen the structure with the help of the upper transverse beam.

Advice! In order for the beam to securely connect the two halves, in addition to screws, additional wooden dowels with a diameter of 10 mm should be used.

  1. We cut the ends of the blanks for the braces at an angle of 45 degrees. After that, we attach both braces to the upper and lower transverse beams.

Fastening of the upper transverse beam

  1. We connect the wooden boards intended for the countertop with cross beams from the inside of the structure.

  1. Additionally, we strengthen the countertop with the help of supporting strips. Make sure that they do not go beyond the dimensions of the table.

Strengthening the structure with support bars

  1. If desired, semicircular corners can be made in the kitchen wooden table, which will give the product a more elegant look.

Such option is suitable both for a large kitchen or dining room, and for giving

Folding wooden table for a small kitchen

If there is not enough space in the kitchen to accommodate a large or medium-sized table, then you should look for a more original approach. One of these solutions is a folding table that is attached to the wall and is very easy to remove, freeing up the space occupied by itself.

Materials and tools

To make a folding wooden table for the kitchen with your own hands, you will need the following:

  • furniture board 30 mm thick;
  • wooden beam 20x60 mm;
  • loops (6 pcs.);
  • corner lamella (2 pcs.);
  • wooden dowels;
  • dowel;
  • screws;
  • drill;
  • jigsaw;
  • grinder or sandpaper;
  • glue;

Assembly: step by step

Advice! Before starting work, decide on the place where the table will be installed. Since the design is attached to the wall, it is very important to take into account all the features of the future interior of the kitchen, so that later you do not have to rearrange, leaving unsightly holes from the dowels in a conspicuous place.

Do-it-yourself kitchen table assembly steps:

  1. We prepare parts for folding legs. To do this, we cut the wooden beam into 8 parts: 4 with a length of 720 mm, 4 with a length of 320 mm. We sand each element, removing burrs.

  1. Assemble two rectangular frames. The rails are interconnected by means of furniture dowels, under which it is first necessary to drill blind holes with a diameter of 8 mm.

  1. We connect the finished frames with each other with loops. In addition, a narrow rail must be attached to one frame with the help of hinges, which will be attached to the wall.

  1. We fix the frame to the wall with dowels, after which we install corner lamellas on the sides. It is important to arrange the slats in such a way that they do not interfere with the legs to fold.

Advice! Instead of corner slats, you can use any furniture corners of the appropriate size, matched to the color of the table.

Fastening the structure to the wall

  1. From wooden shield cut out the tabletop with a size of 900x600 mm. For a more effective look, the corners can be rounded. After that, all ends should be processed with a grinder.
  1. From the countertop we “separate” a piece 250 mm long, which will be attached to wall construction. The two parts are connected to each other by means of loops.

  1. We install the 250 mm part on the corner lamellas and connect the elements with screws.

The final stage of mounting a folding table in the kitchen with your own hands

  1. You can ennoble the table at your discretion by applying stain, varnish or paint. But even in its original form, such a product looks very good.

We offer you a very simple project to assemble a strong and stable table. Even a beginner can make furniture according to this scheme.

Everything starts with an idea

How to make a table? You need to start with the selection finished project furniture for the living room or from drawing up your own scheme for the future product. You can not limit your imagination, but you should remember that the drawings in terms of complexity must correspond to your level of skill. In the absence of sufficient experience, it is better not to try to collect very complex structure.

The project of a table for the house can be drawn with a pencil on paper. First you need to draw a design of the desired shape, and only then indicate its dimensions. Most often, a do-it-yourself table for the living room is made square or round, but for a kitchen or study (and any small room), a compact corner or adjustable table is suitable.

The dimensions of the table with your own hands can be absolutely any, when choosing the dimensions of the product, it is recommended to take into account, first of all, the dimensions of the room in which it will stand. Then, using the drawings, you can calculate the amount of material that will need to be bought. It is recommended to purchase materials with a small margin (just in case).

If you are a beginner who is assembling furniture at home for the first time, then it is better for you to give preference to soft wood (for example, pine).

Such materials are very malleable and do not split during assembly. If you are making furniture for the living room and aesthetics are important to you, then choose poplar. If homemade table will be used outdoors, it is recommended to choose treated wood or mahogany.

Durability will also differ forged table with wooden countertop. Charm to your yard will be added by a piece of wood, decorated forged elements.

To assemble a simple table at home, you will need:

    • edged or tongue-and-groove boards, bars with a square section (for legs) and with a rectangular section (for the frame);

  • white or yellow wood glue;
  • screws (preferably 4x60 self-tapping screws);
  • screwdriver;
  • drill;
  • clamp set;
  • sandpaper or grinder.

Making the tabletop right

We begin the work with a description of the process of manufacturing countertops. There are several ways in which you can solve this problem. What determines the choice of one method or another? First of all, from the skill of the furniture maker and the intended appearance of the table for the living room or country house. So, here are the main ways to make a homemade countertop:

  1. Board production. This material is characterized by relatively low cost, excellent appearance and environmental friendliness. If you are a novice master, then you can make a table with your own hands from grooved boards (that is, blanks with ridges and grooves.

Experienced Master can assemble their living room furniture edged boards. To do this, he will need dowels or a soil carrier of small length. These will be used to connect the boards to each other.

  1. Made from a single piece of wood. In this case, you generally don’t have to puzzle over how to make a table with your own hands with a fairly strong and beautiful table top. The best option is the purchase of hardwood plywood. However, such a product will be quite expensive.
  2. Assembling a product from leftover materials. This is very cheap way making furniture for the home, but quite complex in execution. It will be necessary to select fragments of wood that will be in harmony with each other and will not create problems during installation and further use of the product. Putting the leftovers together is also not easy. In this case, you will have to use screws and a large amount of glue or create an underframe (stiffening ribs).

In the first case, the boards are layered on top of each other, connected with screws and glue. Since all boards different sizes, on the finished product, it will be necessary to cut off the protruding elements and carry out a thorough grinding. The result is an original comfortable table.

The second method involves fastening the remnants of materials with any convenient way(using glue, screws) with subsequent strengthening of the structure by installing a stand or stiffeners. Such a table with your own hands will be distinguished by stability and durability.

If the table will be located in the courtyard near the house or in a stylized living room, then you can order for it forged frame with legs. This will add a special color and originality to the product.

When the countertop is ready, it can be left overnight so that it dries properly. The manufacturing technology of this part of the table is approximately the same, regardless of the chosen shape of the product. The main differences between the projects in this case lie in the shape that must be given to the edges of the boards or a solid sheet of wood.

If you are making an original corner table, then the edges of the boards will have to be made at an angle. It is very important to correctly calculate the degree of each cut so that the edges of the product are even.

However, if as a result, bumps nevertheless formed, then the edges of the table will need to be properly sanded. You can also first fasten the boards, and then draw a triangle on the workpiece and cut out the finished product.

If you are making a round table in the living room or a product with rounded edges, then it is recommended to fasten the boards of the future product, and then draw lines for future cuts on the workpiece with a pencil or chalk.

The finished tabletop for such a project will look like this:

The frame as the basis for a reliable table

The next step is to make a table frame for the living room. The frame is a wooden square (for a square or rectangular table) or a polygon (for a round product), which is fastened to the table top and secures the legs.

Making a frame for a regular table is not difficult even for a beginner. To do this, turn the countertop upside down, measure the canvas, count a few centimeters deep and make marks. Then you can draw a rectangle or square from the marks.

After that, you need to cut four pieces of wood of such dimensions that correspond to the drawings on the tabletop. For the manufacture of the frame, it is recommended to take a bar rectangular section. The frame of the boards may not be strong enough. Then the frame must be attached to the countertop with glue or self-tapping screws. The second option provides a higher reliability of the structure, however, in this case, the heads of the self-tapping screws will be visible on the surface of the countertop.

We make strong and reliable legs

At the next stage of implementation unusual project you need to make table legs. First, you can cut off one leg of the desired height (it is recommended to use a square bar for the production of legs), and then, using it as a sample, cut off the remaining 3. If you are making a corner table, then there will be not 4 legs, but 3. After the cutting process is completed, you should clamp all the legs together and cut them so that they are the same length.

At the next stage of work, the legs need to be sanded with grinder or sandpaper. But the top and bottom of the products should not be sanded, as you can spoil the correct cut angle. Then you need to attach the legs. To do this, the table can be turned upside down.

The first leg should be placed in one of the corners of the frame so that the top cut touches the countertop, and the two sides of the leg adjoin the frame. Then the contact lines of the parts must be liberally lubricated with glue and connected using fixing screws that are screwed through the table frame. It is advisable to make holes for the screws in advance so that the screws do not split the tree during the screwing process.

It is best to avoid using nails and a hammer when making a standard or corner table, as nails can split wood, and using a hammer requires special skill from the manufacturer. In addition, screws hold wood better than nails and can be removed from the product if necessary.

Be sure to make sure that the legs are attached to the table at the right angle. One advantage of screws is that they are easily adjustable. If necessary, their position can be easily changed. Then the same operations should be carried out with the rest of the legs. It is also possible to screw the legs through the tabletop, however in this case there is a risk of splitting the top of the legs. Yes, and the aesthetics of the table for the living room will suffer from this.

When the glue is completely dry, it is necessary to check the product for stability by strongly loosening it. However, if you made a corner table, then you can skip this step. It will be in contact with two walls of the living room or study, and this will give it extra strength. Then it remains only to sand the surface finished product and cover it with wood varnish or special paint. This is the end of the job. Now you can complement the interior of your apartment or garden with a wonderful product.
