Tips on how to build and how to cover the roof for the gazebo. How to cover the roof of a gazebo inexpensively - comparison of materials How to make a round roof of a gazebo

In the dreams of many summer gazebo in the garden it is presented as a light open structure under a roof, under which, regardless of the weather, you can enjoy the delights of nature and clean air.

However, in order to achieve a similar effect even at the design stage, it is necessary to decide on the type of structure, the shape of the roof and the roofing material, that is, how to cover the roof.

Basic forms of roofs for gazebos

The simplest structure for easy construction of a quadrangular shape is a pitched roof. On the diagram, it is a rectangle, square or rhombus. In this case, for the installation of the coating, it is necessary to build inclined rafters.

The next type is a gable form, and it is arranged over gazebos with a rectangular plan. For a strong fastening of the finishing material, the rafter system must be of a layered or hanging type. But this type of roofing is not entirely successful, since it reduces the view of the area.

Over arbors complex or rectangular hip roofs are being built, which can be composed of four slopes. Two of them are triangles, and the rest are trapezoidal. For them, slant or layered rafters are arranged. Besides, modern construction allows you to create using flexible finishing materials roof in the form of a semicircle. Most often, the rafter system in such structures is welded metal.

Highly interesting option gazebos can be obtained if the roof is made of a tent type. It is based on a four-pitched roof, in which all slopes are in the shape of a triangle. Distinctive feature this design is the absence of a ridge, and the corners of the triangular slopes are connected in a ridge knot. And by lengthening the overhang of such a roof, the gazebo can perfectly protect from wind and rain. Hip and hip roofs can be constructed with curved ribs to give the building an oriental feel.

Finishing material and the choice of the shape of the roof

Very carefully you will need to approach the coating. Roofing material should not only be beautiful, but also practical. In this case, a wide variety of materials can be used: wood, metal, shingles, synthetic material and even straw. The practice of using one or another type depends, first of all, on the conceived project and economic feasibility. That's why the best option in this case, a metal tile is, which is not only comparable in price and quality, but also allows you to create interesting design gazebos.

When building a gazebo with your own hands, they usually give preference to a hexagonal shape with a domed roof, since it is quite roomy. At first glance, the construction of a roof structure on such buildings may seem quite complicated. But having thoroughly understood the process, you can independently build a gazebo with a multifaceted roof, without involving professionals for this and thereby significantly reducing construction costs.

After the base and walls are built, we begin to equip the roof of the gazebo. Its construction consists of two stages. The first is the device of the rafter system and the lathing, the second is the installation of the coating. The fundamental point in the construction of a hexagonal roof with your own hands is its symmetry. The slopes at such a roof have the shape of an isosceles triangle. The number of rafters in the structure depends on the size of the gazebo, but usually their pitch is about 1.0 ... 1.2 m.

The easiest way to build a hipped hex roof is to connect six rafter legs at the top of the dome.

DIY roofing device

  1. The construction of the main supporting structure begins with the laying of a Mauerlat bar along the perimeter of the wall. A beam with a section of 100x100 mm is suitable for this. It will allow you to balance the thrust forces arising during the installation of the coating. Mauerlat is fixed with anchors, hammering them vertically into the wall. To facilitate the process, the holes are pre-drilled with a hammer drill.
  2. To connect the rafter legs in a fan, the upper ends are sawn at an angle of 60º.
  3. For fixing the corners, holes with a diameter of 10 .. 12 mm are drilled in the upper part of the rafters.
  4. To install the rafters, rectangular grooves are selected on the Mauerlat at the required angle.
  5. Prepare screeds. For this, steel strips 300x100 mm with a thickness of 2 ... 4 mm are used. Having retreated from the edge 80 mm, holes 10… 12 mm are drilled on them, after which they are bent in the middle at an angle of 60º.
  6. Then prepare the segment metal pipeǾ1½;, the length of which is about 200 ... 300 mm. There must be a thread at the end.
  7. From steel sheet 2 ... 4 mm thick, two washers with a size of Ǿ150-200 mm should be made.
  8. Next, we begin to connect the rafter legs in pairs with bolts using screeds, while placing washers under the nuts. In order for the structure to be flexible, it is not worth tightening the nuts to the end.
  9. The rafters installed in this way are connected in the center, like a tripod.
  10. Place a temporary support leg in the center and lift the structure up.
  11. Then the rafter legs must be rigidly connected to the Mauerlat beam using bolts and nuts.
  12. After the rafters are finally secured, the auxiliary B-pillar must be removed and the corners must be finally tightened. Instead of a stand, pass a piece of metal pipe through the center. Screw the clamping locknuts onto the pipe from below and from above.
  13. A crate is stuffed onto a do-it-yourself rafter system. For this, a beam or boards with a thickness of 40 ... 50 mm are used. The installation of the lathing begins with the lower slope. After that, she must undergo treatment with an antiseptic solution.

Do-it-yourself covering for a gazebo made of metal tiles

Do-it-yourself installation of metal tiles on a crate in hipped roofs begins with measuring and cutting sheets. The main parameter in this case is the length from the top point of the roof to the bottom edge of the sheathing. When cutting, it is imperative to take into account an overhang of about 40 mm. For cutting metal sheets, special shears are used. If the work is done by hand at home, you can use a hacksaw for metal or an electric saw with carbide teeth. It should be remembered that after trimming, the edges are treated with an anti-corrosion compound.

The hipped roof is covered with their own hands, starting from top to bottom, having previously determined the center of the slope. The sheets are stacked evenly, from the middle of the slope, gradually moving in different directions. It should not be overlooked that the grooves of the laid metal-tile sheets must exactly coincide with the subsequent ones. First, 3 ... 4 sheets are interconnected, then they are aligned and only after that they are finally fixed to the crate. Alignment of metal tiles occurs along the lower edge of the structure. Cover hexagonal roof only in whole sheets, trying to avoid using scraps left over from other slopes.

When using self-tapping screws with sealing washers. The fixation takes place strictly in the deflection of the wave at a right angle to the battens of the sheathing. The fixing step is on average 8 pcs. for 1 m². After the entire roof is covered, metal corners are used to close the joints of the sheets. Her inner surface you can sheathe it with plastic and wood with your own hands, which will increase its soundproofing properties.

The roof of the gazebo, if it is made of reliable material, will protect from rain drops and the scorching sun, thereby ensuring the comfort of rest in any weather. Probably, it would be superfluous to say that the roof should be of high quality, durable, durable and visually attractive, be combined with and in harmony with, - this is well understood by everyone. The only question that remains is how to cover the roof of the gazebo to ensure that all these requirements are met. Consider all possible options to find the perfect gazebo different sizes, shapes and style.

# 1. What should be considered when designing a gazebo roof?

Choosing material for the roof of the gazebo, consider the following nuances:

# 2. Gazebo roof shape

No. 5. Flexible shingles for the gazebo roof

No. 9. Natural roof tiles for gazebos

For those who have sufficient funds and want to get a functional and beautiful gazebo, it is perfect - almost perfect roofing material... It can be ceramic or cement-sand, and among main advantages note:

  • great appearance and environmental friendliness;
  • resistance to moisture, heat, temperature extremes, fire;
  • durability, up to 100 years;
  • high strength;
  • good heat and sound insulation properties. The air in the gazebo will not get very hot in the heat, and rain drops will not cause a booming noise;
  • the possibility of arranging roofs complex shapes;
  • maintainability, because in which case one or more damaged elements can be easily replaced.

Unfortunately, here too not without drawbacks:

No. 10. Original materials for the roof of the gazebo

The choice of traditional materials is great, but if among them you still have not found one that could cover the roof of the gazebo, then perhaps look suitable solution from less common materials:

  • the cloth usually used to equip temporary portable gazebos, which are placed in the country only in summer period... For this, usually dense acrylic fabric is used, which has been treated with moisture-repellent substances. It does not get wet, does not fade or fade, it can be of any shades and will be an excellent decoration for a gazebo. Raincoat fabric is used less often, which also perfectly repels water, but differs in more modest aesthetic qualities;
  • straw, reeds and reeds will allow you to create a nice cozy country-style gazebo. The lathing is mounted with a step of 35 cm. If the straw or reed is well tamped, then they will catch fire with difficulty, but it does not interfere, just in case, to process the material with fire retardants;
  • Living roof settles down when creating "live" gazebos. It is difficult to form, allows drops of rain to pass through, but in such a gazebo it will be especially comfortable and cool on a hot day. You can also use climbing plants that will braid the frame and create a dense green canopy.

Consider the style of the site and the material of the walls when choosing the right roofing material for the gazebo. For example, the eco-style assumes the use of only natural materials (straw, shingles, tiles), and high-tech allows you to safely use polycarbonate, a light thatched roof is suitable for vine walls, and a slate or tile roof for brick walls. The gazebo can be decorated with a weather vane, flowers and thin air curtains.

The peculiarity of the gazebo is that the owners can sit on the street with comfort. Elements of the country pavilion - the fundamental base, benches or decor do not matter as much as the hipped roof for the gazebo. The design provides protection from the sun's rays in summer and preserves the indoor area during snowy winters... You can find out how to build a structure on your own from the recommendations of the specialists below.

Varieties of flooring gazebos

Complement the landscape design of the territory, attract the attention of guests - at the roof for summer cottage countless functionality... The owners of suburban real estate use not only 4 slopes on the roof. Find out how to do it right the right roof your gazebo with your own hands, a choice from:

  • the simplest lean-to, which are suitable for arbors with a clearly defined geometry - four corners;
  • gable, complementing the design of a rectangular or square gazebo. The work uses layered or hanging rafters. The only design flaw is the reduced visibility of the property;
  • semicircular. The rafters needed for the gazebo are made of metal. A variant of the product is a conical roof;
  • hip. Hip is a versatile hipped roof design for a gazebo. The construction is carried out on the basis of a rafter frame with slopes and slopes;
  • hexagons, laborious in execution. In this case, the roof of the gazebo complements the buildings in the shape of a square or circle;
  • in the form of a tent. Equipping a hipped roof is not easy. In fact, hipped roof gazebos are a type of product with four slopes, but the sections are made in the form of a triangle, and the ridge is not provided. If you don't know how to make a tent-shaped gazebo roof, stick with simple variations;
  • round. For creating round design you need to observe the corners, use a rafter system and be sure to fix the crate in a circle.

The listed types of roofs seem to be different only at first glance. All structures include a rafter system, sheathing and roofing durable material for a spectacular gazebo.

How to choose a material for a roof structure?

When choosing a reliable roofing material designed to cover the gazebo, it is worth considering its durability, visual appeal, weight, type of attachment and cost.

Roofing options

When looking for what to cover the gazebo, rely on the advantages of lightweight materials. Modern manufacturers offer:

  • durable sheet products - metal tiles and corrugated board. The frame, covered with metal plates, takes on a fancy configuration. The abundance of colors allows you to bring to life unusual decorative ideas... Among the disadvantages of metal - poor sound insulation, which is eliminated by special linings;
  • bituminous "petals". A beautiful soft and durable roof, laid on the gazebo, consists of several layers - fiberglass, oxidized bitumen, a mineral layer, adhesive bitumen and silicon, which creates an effect clay roof... Coating from soft tiles characterized by a variety of plate shapes, resistance to oxidation, chemicals;
  • polycarbonate sheets. Lightweight plastic the material is flexible, the ability to create a roof with one, two or 4 slopes. High-quality plastic of a monolithic or honeycomb type allows you to perform arched structures... The main advantage that the polycarbonate roofing chosen for the gazebo will receive is sound insulation. The plastic does not allow the sounds of rain or hail to pass through;
  • ondulin. Better products to cover the gazebo roof just doesn't exist. Light weight, strength, sheet reinforcement with 10 waves make the ondulin coating durable and easy to install. Standard plastic is 3 mm thick, 2 m long and 95 cm wide. Is there something special missing? Order material cutting;
  • natural shingle. Wood material made of conifers (spruce, fir, cedar) or hardwood (ash, oak) in the form of 2 cm thick strips. Such a structure will complement the design of a wooden gazebo, but a lot of money will have to be spent on a spectacular structure.

The material chosen by the owner of the summer house, intended to create the roof of an attractive gazebo, must comply with the requirements of SNiP I I-26-76. The document takes into account the formation of the angle of inclination of the roof structure according to the climate of the region - autumn or winter precipitation. A roof for a gazebo made of fire-resistant materials is required when a brazier or a decorative hearth is equipped in it.

Calculations and drawing up a drawing

Before purchasing a roofing material, draw up a project. The developed scheme is required to determine the number of consumables, load and configuration of the structure. It is important to show in the calculations:

  • the total mass that the rafter frame will have;
  • the weight of the roofing cake;
  • snow and wind amplitude of the region;
  • the total weight of the additional equipment - antenna, ventilation system or chimney.

The base that you will cover is determined finishing materials and the method of fastening.

Sketching rules

A reliable roof for a gazebo with your own hands will work if the draft design is developed taking into account the load of the rafter system. In the drawing you need to indicate:

  • Weight of waterproofing structures, coatings, additional elements.
  • The angle of inclination, which is intended for a summer cottage reliable roof.
  • The step of the lathing depending on the selected material.
  • Rafter system- the length and size of the cross-section of the beams, the size of the frame, struts and tightening.
  • Mounting units.

All information is entered into the project and compared with the SNiP standards, which demonstrate how to correctly make a safe roof of a country gazebo with your own hands

Types of rafters for a four-slope structure

The rafter frame for a roof with 4 slopes provides for the use of several types of rafters:

  • diagonal. Mounted products from beams or wooden planks will withstand a lot of material, regardless of what you decide to cover the gazebo with;
  • intermediate. The central supporting parts are used to connect the support and the ridge, the handles. Fastening the central rafters connect the nipples and the frame.

To make it easier to measure, you need to determine the centerline on the top of the harness and calculate half the thickness of the ridge. After the calculations, it is required to mark the level of the first of the intermediate rafters, combine it with the previous one and determine the place of the 2nd intermediate rafter. Measurements are easier to do wooden lath 2-3 m long, working through each of the corners. Nice drawing will facilitate assembly work, because a gazebo created without beautiful roof looks unaesthetic.

Construction of supports for the roof frame

To make a hipped roof for a gazebo, you will need to build a frame on supports. 4 slopes can support wood, brick or metal racks. Strong supports are needed for capital buildings reinforced with a foundation. If a structure is being built on wooden poles, would need:

  • Pour the foundation or concrete support pillars, having previously waterproofed them.
  • Check the verticality of the elements by securing them with jumpers. The upper parts will be the strapping for mounting the product.
  • Tie up the top ends wooden beams... It is better to use paired jumpers, and reinforce the joints with metal overlays.

The result of the work will be rigid and durable rafters, designed to strengthen the gazebo and withstand operational loads.

Algorithm for the implementation of the roof frame

After the frame is mounted and lined flooring, go to the arrangement of the pavilion with a hip roof. When planning how to make a hipped roof, follow the construction algorithm:

  • A reliable roof intended for a summer cottage will be attached to wooden frame... To make it withstand the material needed for the gazebo, the top harness is reinforced with overlapping lumber. A tightening is fixed along the long part of the product with the help of metal corners.
  • 50 cm recede from the central part of the tightening and a pair of racks 100 cm high are attached. For the verticality of the elements, temporary struts are used, as well as a connection using a ridge girder.
  • The rafter legs are mounted, which form a row. You can make a do-it-yourself wreck for the gazebo with a rafter pitch of 1 m if you place two elements along the edges.
  • The diagonal rafters are fastened to the constructed frame using nails. "Legs" with gash are nailed onto the ridge part, forming a girder. The slider mount is located between the Mauerlat and the rafters.
  • Carry out the installation of the wives. Details are fixed in increments of 60-70 cm on diagonal rafters metal overlays or nails on the top harness.
  • Lay a waterproofing layer so that the top made does not collapse under the influence of moisture. A stapler is used in the work, and the moisture-proof consumable is placed with an overlap of 10-15 cm.
  • Carry out the flooring of the lathing OSB thickness 15mm and nails.

After completing the work, you will have to decorate the gazebo with your own hands with roofing products.

Installation of roofing material

When considering how to cover the roof of the gazebo, stop at soft tiles. Modern soft bituminous roof, laid on the gazebo, provides decorative effect and good sound insulation.
Improving your site, you can make a roof for the gazebo with your own hands from bituminous material according to a simple scheme:

  • Put up the worksheets on a smooth board.
  • Begin to lay the metal tile on the right side, overlapping the previous sheet with the next sheet.
  • Fix the first row with roofing screws with a gasket. The roof with your own hands will turn out to be strong if you screw the screws into each wave, and on the crate - after one wave.
  • Trim uneven elements with metal scissors that will not damage the zinc and prevent corrosion.

On the last stage form plumb lines, ridge and drainage chute.
An exquisite gazebo with a hipped roof will complement existing architecture and will last for many years if you complete it correctly.

For several centuries, the gazebo has been the most common element of the garden. This light, graceful design often plays a key role in the organization of the backyard landscape. It is designed in the same style as the house, using suitable materials.

After construction, the gazebo quickly turns into a favorite resting place for all family members. It serves as protection from rain and scorching sun rays, while allowing you to comfortably talk, read, drink tea or retire for thought. The gazebo roof is not only a functional piece; she defines general form the buildings. When choosing a roof for it, take into account the style of the gazebo, its configuration and material. In our article, we propose to consider how to cover the roof of the gazebo inexpensively.

A romantic gazebo with outdoor furniture is a great place to meet friends

Varieties of gazebo and roof designs

All the variety of arbors can be divided into several groups. They differ:

  • By design... Open gazebos are the most common option, built in most cases from wood. Closed gazebos characterized by solid walls, glazed openings, a door and sometimes a stove (fireplace). Lively gazebos attract romantic people; they are formed by a frame framed by climbing or specially trimmed plants. Large barbecue gazebos are gaining popularity; their integral attribute is a fireplace or barbecue.
  • By the shape of the base... There are gazebos with a round (rotunda), square (rectangular), oval or polyhedral base.
  • By the construction method... Gazebos can be built with or without foundations; there are portable varieties (wedding).
  • By material... The choice of material is unlimited. When thinking about how to cover the gazebo in the country, they often consider materials such as wood, stone, metal, plastic. You can find a gazebo made of willow twigs or artificial rattan.

Metal gazebo decorated with climbing plants

  • By style... The classic options are Ancient Greek, Roman, and Renaissance styles. Gazebos are common in Russian or chinese style, gazebos chalet and country.

In accordance with the shape and style, the roof of the gazebo can have the form:

  • Shed... Such a roof is mounted on four-walled structures. Multilevel opposite walls serve as the basis for an inclined rafter system; the slope is facing the windward side.
  • Gable. Perfect option for a rectangular arbor. Depending on the project, the rafter system will be layered (rafters have an intermediate support point in the middle) or hanging (no intermediate supports).
  • Four-slope... Slopes can be 4 triangles converging at one point. If the structure consists of 2 triangles and 2 trapezoids, it is called hip. The base of the hipped roof is a rectangle, the rafters on which are laid in a slant or layered manner.

Openwork wooden gazebo - a classic garden decoration

  • Tent... A popular option in private construction, consisting of 5 or more triangular elements, fastened by one vertex. The rafter system is similar to that used for four pitched roofs... The tent version is suitable for round and polygonal arbors.
  • Exotic... Roofs meet in a colorful oriental style: Chinese or Japanese (multi-tiered, with inward curved ribs). The gazebos are decorated with a domed, round and bell-shaped roof; mount multi-tiered and asymmetric structures.

Roof design: choice of shape and material

The shape of the roof is a matter of taste for the owner, but the choice should be based on some prerequisites.

Roof structure: about the rafter system

The purpose of the rafter system is to shape the roof and support the weight of the roof. The rafters account for most of the pressure, which is redistributed further to the support pillars. Part of the load is borne by the crate.

When designing a rafter system (section, length and distance between the rafters, the way they are located), take into account:

  • Roof shape (angle of inclination).
  • Roof weight.

On our site you can get acquainted with the most from the construction companies presented at the exhibition of houses "Low-rise Country".

What to consider when choosing a material for a roof

When choosing how to cover the roof of the gazebo, take into account:

  • The weight... Lightweight material does not require reinforcement of the rafter system. If, for some reason, a heavy material is chosen (you really like natural tiles), be prepared for the fact that a massive Basic structure, and even the foundation.
  • The price.
  • Roof shape... For pitched roofs, they often choose sheet material: metal tiles, profiled sheet and slate. Hip and hip structures made of such materials will be costly (installation time and the amount of waste increase). A soft roof (shingles) is suitable for them.
  • Location... If construction wooden gazebo planned next to open water, the wood must be protected from the harmful effects of moisture. The structure is treated with oil-based impregnation; the procedure is periodically repeated.
  • Security... Gazebos with barbecue are located at a sufficient distance from the house. In construction, it is preferable to use non-combustible materials: concrete or floor tiles, roof tiles and slate.

Round combined gazebo-barbecue

  • Style... The architectural appearance of the gazebo and the surrounding buildings should be combined. An elegant Chinese gazebo with a tiled roof will seem like an alien detail next to a log bath.
  • Climate... Rainfall in winter or constant strong winds serve as a determining factor in choosing the angle of inclination of the roof. In the first case, it is increased (so that the snow does not linger on the surface), in the second, it is made small (to avoid windage).

Popular materials for the roof of the gazebo

In order for the structure to be attractive in appearance and durable, the material for the roof is selected as closely as possible to the shape of the roof. There are many different ideas for how to cover the roof of a gazebo in the country, the options that are most common are described below.

Metal roofing and corrugated board

Favorite options due to low weight, durability, affordable price, wide color palette and easy installation... Reinforcement of the structure is not required, but you will need a soundproofing layer (if you like to meditate to the sound of rain in the gazebo). The cons are a large number of waste (when installing a roof of complex shape) and the risk of metal corrosion.

Airy polycarbonate construction

On our site you can find contacts of construction companies that offer the service of designing small forms. You can communicate directly with representatives by visiting the Low-Rise Country exhibition of houses.

Polycarbonate

Plasticity of modern building material different shades allows you to create interesting roof shapes. The advantages of polycarbonate are:

  • low weight and price;
  • facilitated and accelerated installation;
  • flexibility and strength.

Polycarbonate has limitations in its use:

  • without protective film the material is destroyed by ultraviolet radiation;
  • a polycarbonate roof - weak sun protection, it can be practical in a shady garden.

Flexible (soft, bituminous) shingles

The reinforcing base of the material is fiberglass; it is impregnated with bitumen and coated with a basalt spray. Shingles look like a collection of small overlapping elements. The material is commercially available in a variety of colors and shapes (beaver tail, dragon tooth, hexagon, rhombus, rectangle). Shingles are practical for many reasons:

  • The best option for complex roofs (easy installation and little waste).
  • Corrosion resistant; at correct installation the roof is airtight.
  • Long service life (25-30 years) and low weight.
  • Due to its softness, it has excellent sound absorption.
  • Opens up space for design.

Wooden gazebo with soft tile roof

The roof for the gazebo made of soft tiles has disadvantages:

  • Instead of lathing under the roof of bituminous shingles arrange a continuous flooring of moisture-resistant plywood, which increases the cost of construction.
  • The use of bitumen makes it highly combustible.
  • Burns out under the influence of the sun.
  • For the price, the material is in the middle price category (more expensive than metal tiles, but cheaper than ceramic tiles).

Ondulin (soft, bituminous slate)

The material is produced by the same method as shingles; issued in sheet form different color and profile. Ondulin is similar to shingles in terms of a set of properties - the same flexible, soft and flammable; it requires the arrangement of the lathing with a step of at least 0.6 m. Ondulin is lighter than tiles, it is designed for a shorter service life and costs 2 times cheaper. A professionally mounted ondulin roof does not leak onto the gazebo.

Slate

Slate is perhaps the most common material in the post-Soviet space. It is loved for its strength, durability and reasonable price. If a barbecue gazebo is planned, the slate will become the best choice for the roof. The downside of the material is its fragility and weight; it will significantly complicate the installation of a complex roof.

Roof made of environmentally friendly ceramic tiles

Shingles

On sale there are natural (ceramic, fired clay) and cement-sand tiles. Ceramic roof tiles considered a premium roofing material. In many ways, it is the optimal roofing material with many benefits:

  • Durability, frost resistance and strength.
  • Flawless appearance. Tiles are made in their natural form, covered with glaze (glassy mass with protective properties) or engobe (color-forming coating)
  • Environmental friendliness.
  • Use for the installation of a complex roof.

Disadvantages of natural tiles:

  • The material is considered an indicator of wealth and refined taste; the price is appropriate.
  • The installation of the roof is carried out manually and requires time and a certain degree of accuracy.
  • The weight of the tiles must be compensated for by strengthening the rafter system (install rafters with a smaller step).

Gable roof under wooden roof tiles(shingle)

Other materials

There is a group of materials used less often for arranging the roof:

  • Straw, reeds and reeds... Eco-style is a popular trend in landscape design; a roof made of natural materials will give the gazebo a cozy look, despite their increased flammability (processing with fire retardants is a weak protection).
  • Shingle... Environmentally friendly clean material, shingles (wooden planks). Looks original, but difficult to install.
  • Fabric (awning or PVC)... It is used for summer portable structures.
  • Roofing copper... Copper is a plastic material that is used to create roofs of the most unusual shapes. The copper roof has long term service and high price.

About the construction of the gazebo in the video:

Hipped roof for a summer cottage: design and installation stages

A rectangular or square gazebo is the classic, most common option; the building is stable, it is convenient to place furniture in it (the area is distributed economically). Most often, such a gazebo is a frame made of timber on a columnar foundation. Hipped roof gives it an architectural completeness, an elegant and solemn look.

Installation of the rafter system of the hipped roof

There are several types of roofs with four slopes used for the gazebo: hip, half-hip (Danish), hipped and Chinese. Installation of a hipped roof goes through several stages:

  • Design... To make a structure diagram, determine the angle of inclination of the roof, based on climatic conditions region and selected roofing material. Then set the length of the roof overhang (its length from the highest point to the bottom).
  • Materials (edit)... Based on the scheme, they calculate required amount roofing and roofing material.
  • Protection... When choosing options for how to make a roof near the gazebo, the rafters are in any case strengthened with water-repellent agents. To maximize the life of the roof, all wooden elements treated with antiseptics and fire retardants.
  • Mounting... The frame of the truss system is being assembled. The rafter beams are laid (with control building level), support bars; additional connections are created using rafters.
  • Installation of the lathing... Sheathing of rafters is carried out; under soft roof (shingles) a solid crate is made.
  • Waterproofing is being installed.
  • Roof... The rafter system is sheathed with roofing material.

Features of the Chinese hipped roof

Such an exotic option requires the development of a special project. Non-standard arrangement of beams and rafters turns the edges of the roof towards the sky, making the gazebo the center garden design and justifying the complexity of the installation.

Conclusion

Regardless of the selected roof and material, installation work must be carried out in compliance with building codes. A technically correctly designed gazebo and roof scheme will allow you to build a reliable and beautiful structure that gives protection and peace to everyone who needs them.

For those who decided to start arranging their site, the construction of a gazebo is a topical issue. The roof on the gazebo can cause great difficulty in this matter: however, you can build this element with your own hands.

Varieties of designs

All the variety of shapes and designs is very great.

The following are perfect for a gazebo:

  • Single slope;
  • Gable;
  • Four-slope;
  • Six-sided.

Each of them is applied in a specific situation:

  • The single slope has only one slope. Most often it is arranged on those structures that are adjacent to any wall. Sometimes it is arranged on independent buildings as the most economical option;
  • The gable is most often used on rectangular arbors. It has one drawback - the need for gables;
  • The hipped roof of the gazebo with your own hands can be arranged when the structure has a square or rectangle at the base. The only drawback is the complexity of the device;
  • The six-sided one is used only with buildings of a hexagonal shape.

It must be said that the last two types belong to roofs without gables, which are collectively called hip structures.

Standalone device

The hipped roof of the gazebo with your own hands can be made from a bar, steel pipes or a profiled pipe - it all depends on the material of the frame of the building.

As an example, consider the device of a four-pitched roof.

Structural elements

The tent structure has the following structural elements:

  • Mauerlat... In the design of the entire gazebo, this node may be called top strapping... Serves as a basis for setting rafter legs and other elements. It is carried out in the form of bonded beams along the perimeter;
  • Rafters... These are elements set at an angle and converging at one point, the projection of which onto the base will be its center;
  • It is customary to call the ridge knot the connection point of all legs;
  • Narodniks or spacers... As a rule, they are installed on two opposite slopes. Attached at one end to additional beams on the rafters, and the second to the Mauerlat. Serve to impart greater rigidity to the entire structure. In total, 3-4 hangers are attached to each slope, depending on the size of the roof.
  • Rigel called a jumper that holds two legs together, forming one slope. The crossbar can also fasten the beaters if they lie in the same plane with the legs;
  • Sill... It is carried out in the form of a bar laid in the center of the base, that is, from one Mauerlat bar to the opposite one;
  • Racks play the role of a support for the wives. Installed strictly vertically. Scaffolds act as a support for the racks;
  • Scaffold... These are beams that are laid on top of the bed at an angle of 90 degrees. The scaffolds are fastened together by two opposing scaffolds;
  • Lathing... Boards that are nailed over the feet and serve as a base for the roofing material.

Installation process

The whole process begins with the assembly of the strapping. The beams are fastened in half a log to each other at an angle of strictly 90 degrees.

Advice! The initial assembly is best done on the ground for convenience.

In addition, it is easier to flatten the frame on the ground than on the direct assembly site. So, a bed is attached to the finished Mauerlat.

Advice! The bed should be located in the same horizontal plane with the strapping elements.

If this is not the case, then the scaffolding will have to be fixed to the bed, and additional beams have to be stuffed with the strapping.

So, after fixing the bed, the instruction assumes that a scaffold is attached to it at an angle of 90 degrees, which should lie on two opposite beams of the Mauerlat.

After that, you can start installing the rafter legs. They begin to lift them from two opposite corners (diagonally).

Advice! To make it easier to fasten them at the top point, the corresponding ends of the rafter legs are cut at an angle.

The rafters are attached to the Mauerlat. Often it is cut, that is, cuttings are made. It is better not to do this, but simply to carry out the fastening with the help of reinforcement brackets.

In this way, all 4 legs are erected and attached.

After that, the rafters are additionally fixed with rafters and crossbars. Narodniks, in turn, are additionally attached with racks. They, as has been said, are attached to the scaffolding.

The last step is to fix the boards of the sheathing, and so that the roof in the gazebo does not leak with your own hands, waterproofing and vapor barrier material is laid on top of the boards.
