The double-leaf version of interior doors is usually used in two cases - a large doorway and small room... In comparison with one canvas, they take up much less space in open form... There is another reason for this choice - double-leaf interior doors look very elegant, especially modern models products. Their canvases can be swing and sliding. There are still swinging models, but they are rarely used. How to install a double-leaf interior door? Installation of double-leaf products is not difficult, but it requires a certain sequence and knowledge.

Opening preparation

Before proceeding with the installation of the door, an opening is prepared for it. If there is a need to dismantle the old door frame, then this is done using an assembly with a nail driver, a hammer and a screwdriver. Then the opening is cleaned of the remains of plaster and foam. Depending on the material of the wall, a grinder, a chainsaw or a hammer drill is used to expand it. You can reduce the space to the required size using lumber or plaster.

The walls should be ready for finishing and aligned as much as possible - the door frame should not be adjusted to their curvature and be knocked out of the plane.

Calculation of the doorway

There are double doors interior dimensions which do not fit the existing opening. The calculation of its width is carried out according to a simple scheme - the width of one canvas is added, the gap between it and the bar and the thickness of the box. The resulting amount is multiplied by 2 and 4-5 mm is added to it for mortgages. For example, let's take the most common door width of 600 mm and a frame thickness of 25 mm. (600 + 3 + 25) x2 + 4 = 1260 mm. Its height is calculated in the same way. But here you should take into account the gap between the door and the floor - 10-20 mm. 2000 + 10 + 25 + 15 (gap between the frame and the door) = 2050 mm. When constructing a threshold, the height of the door, the double thickness of the frame and the gap between it and the leaf, multiplied by two, are summed up.

Modern door models are supplied complete with fittings and frame parts, ready for assembly. In this case, the work will not require much effort. It is necessary to decide on the side of the opening of the canvas, measure the length of the racks, taking into account the unevenness of the floor and the prepared opening. Saw off the bottom of the racks in accordance with its height. Then install the dowels into the holes located in the end cuts on the side racks of the box. Pull the parts together until they are completely seated and fix them with the angle brackets. For this, special grooves are located on the back of the box.

Door blocks can be sold fully prepared for installation, with mounting slots for hinges, or without them. In this case, you will need to perform a number of actions to cut them out - this process will be described below.

DIY box installation

When assembling the door frame with your own hands, first of all, you need to adjust the timber to the size of the canvas. Its dimensions are double web width plus 6 mm for gaps. When calculating the height of the box, 10 mm is added to the dimensions of the door for the clearance from the bottom and 3 mm - from the top. The top bar and the adjacent ends of the uprights are cut at an angle of 45º.

Next, the door frame is assembled - its corners are fastened with three self-tapping screws, the length of which should reach the center of the second bar. Two of them are screwed in at an angle from the side rack upwards, the third is located between them, but screwed in from above.

Installation of hinges

The location of the rotary fasteners is marked on the doors. For this, 20 cm is measured at the end of the canvas and a loop is applied. Its contour is outlined with a pencil or a sharp knife, and at this place a groove is selected to the required depth. It can be done with a chisel, but in order for the groove to be neat, it is better to use a router - it will allow you to work more accurately and quickly.

Places for self-tapping screws are marked with an awl through the hinge plate attached to the grooves and guide holes are drilled for them. Their diameter should be 1-1.5 mm smaller than the corresponding screw sizes. In the same way, a recess for the crossbar is made on one of the doors.

Then the doors are superimposed on the box, a place for the hinges is marked on the side beams, and in the same way as on the canvases, a groove is made for them. There are modern rotary fasteners that do not require such work. But the butterfly hinges are not very popular among the craftsmen of the "door business" - there are too many complaints and they prefer the time-tested mechanisms.

Hinges are installed on both door leaves and pillars, and a crossbar is installed on one of the canvases.

Installing the frame in the doorway

When installing the assembled door frame in the opening using a level and a plumb line, the accuracy of its horizontal and vertical position is checked.

The structure is fixed to the wall with long screws (8-10 cm). First of all, the side racks are fixed. Wooden spacers can be installed between them and the wall.

The resulting space around the perimeter of the box is filled with polyurethane foam. It should take into account the degree of its expansion - one in five. Details door block must be protected from the ingress of foam. After it dries, the excess is carefully removed with a knife and the gap is closed with a casing. The door leaf is hung in place and a hole is drilled for the deadbolt striker plate at a slight angle.

Interior sliding double doors, photos of which can be found on the Internet, are a good alternative to swing models. They free up space, which is very important for a small apartment.

In the case when it is planned to install double-leaf interior doors with your own hands, you should pay special attention to the material of their manufacture. If one guide is enough for a wooden door, then a heavy glass product will require the installation of two structures. Moreover, it is better to plan the lower one in advance so that it is possible to deepen it into the floor. In any case, it attaches to finishing floor, to his concrete base... The horizontalness of the guide is checked with a level.

In order to determine the place of the upper rail, which is attached first, the door leans against the opening and a horizontal line is drawn along its upper edge. It should be borne in mind that a gap of 10-15 mm should remain between the floor and the canvas. You can immediately place a gasket of the desired thickness under the door.

The wooden block on which the guide will be attached must be located strictly horizontally, otherwise the doors either will not open or will spontaneously move to the side. It is fastened with dowels or self-tapping screws - depending on the wall material. In addition, there are models with a rail that is attached to special brackets or to the ceiling.

Having retreated from the wall 2-3 mm, a guide is installed on the lower edge of the timber using screws. It is displayed strictly according to the level.

The next step consists of attaching the roller mechanisms to the door. On the upper end of the web, it is measured from both sides by 20-50 mm, and the staples are screwed in with screws. If a lower guide is installed, then a groove with a depth of 18 mm is made in the lower part of the doors. Its width should be 2mm wider than that of the lower rail, made in the form of a flag or a knife. Since it is not easy to carry out this process at home, it is better to choose the lower guide, consisting of a U-shaped profile or two slats.

Hitching the canvas

The rollers with supporting screws are inserted into the top guide. Limiters are installed at its ends. The canvas is installed on the flag of the lower rail and is hung with brackets on the screws. The fixing nuts are tightened slightly. By turning the screws on the brackets, the door is vertically adjusted taking into account the gap above the floor. The second door is hung in the same way. Then, using a wrench, the nut is finally tightened, and the blades are locked on the rollers.

The final stage of installation sliding doors is the installation of fittings and a decorative strip that masks the guide rail.

Sooner or later, you have to change the interior doors. The procedure is not so complicated that it is imperative to hire a specialist. If you have at least some skills in handling a saw, a level and a plumb line, you can tighten a few screws - do it yourself. When replacing, before installing the interior door, the old one must be dismantled. And here, too, there are features. All the intricacies - in a photo and video with detailed instructions.

Interior doors are made from different materials. Moreover, the material of both the door leaf and the frame differs. The door leaf is:

From fiberboard. These are the cheapest doors. Represent wooden frame, to which the laminated fiberboard is attached. They are characterized by low sound insulation, are afraid of high humidity, and are easily damaged.
Made of MDF. They cost much more, but the quality characteristics are much higher. They are better in sound insulation, are not afraid of moisture, stronger and more durable.
Wood. The most expensive doors. Made from different varieties wood - from pine to oak or more exotic species.

Door frames are made of the same materials. The worst choice is fiberboard boxes, they even bend under their own weight, and door leaf hanging on them is sheer flour. So try to take either MDF or wood. There is one more material: laminated wood. The good thing is that you do not need to process and paint, but the service life depends on the quality of the film.

Dimensions and equipment

Interior doors are produced standard sizes, the only pity is that the standards in different countries are different. For example, in our country, swing doors are made with a width of 600 - 900 mm with a step of 100 mm. In some EU countries, the norms are the same - in Germany, Italy and Spain. Others are standard in France. Here the narrowest doors are 690 mm and further with a step of 100 mm.

Is the difference so important? If you only want to change the door leaf without a box, then it is important - you will have to choose from your segment or completely change it together with the box. Interior doors of the same standard as in our country, the choice is much greater, as in France - several times less.

How wide the door is needed depends on where you are going to put them. In terms of standards, the following values are recommended:

in living room width from 60 to 120 cm, height 2 m;
bathroom - width from 60 cm, height 1.9-2 m;
in the kitchen, the width of the door leaf is at least 70 cm, the height is 2 m.

If, when replacing the door, it is decided to make the opening larger / smaller, you do not need permission for this, but you must stay within the limits specified for each room.

How do you determine which door width to buy? Measure the door leaf that you have and you will know what you need. If there are no doors, find the narrowest point in the opening, by measuring it, you can find out how wide you need the door block. This is the door leaf + door frame. So the outer dimensions of the door frame must be less than the measured value. For example, if you got 780 mm, look for a block with 700 mm parameters. The wider ones cannot be inserted into this opening.

The most complete set of interior doors - with a frame, accessories and platbands

When choosing a door, pay attention to the complete set. There are three types of assembly:

Door leaf. Buy the box separately.
Doors with a frame. Everything is included, but the box is in the form individual boards... You will have to file the corners and connect, hang the loops yourself.
Door block. These are ready-to-install doors - the frame is assembled, the hinges are hung. Only trim the sidewalls to the height, align and secure.

With the same quality of the door leaf, the prices for these kits differ significantly. But the difference in the time you will spend on installation is decent.

Step-by-step installation of interior doors

In general, there are many subtleties. We will try to describe and illustrate the most common moments in a photo or video material.

Step 1: Assembling the door frame

If you did not buy a pre-assembled door unit, the first step is to assemble the door frame. It consists of two long posts located on the sides, and one shorter crossbar at the top - the lintel.

Connection methods

There are at least two options for how to connect these strips to each other:

Regardless of which way you are going to connect the elements of the door frame, the first step is to wash down the racks and lintels on one side. Then they are put in a box on the floor, checking the correctness of the connection. Next, you need to decide on the height of the side parts of the door frame.

Determine the dimensions

When folded, the required length is measured along the inside of the rack. The racks are far from always made the same: the floor is often uneven and this must be taken into account. To do this, take a level and check how flat the floor is. If it is perfectly level, the racks will be the same. If there is a deviation, it must be taken into account: make one of the racks longer. Usually it is a few millimeters, but even this is enough for the doors to warp.

When calculating the height, keep in mind that the racks should be 1-2 cm longer than the door leaf (taking into account the cuts). A gap of 1 cm is made under the door, if they do not intend to put a rug under the door. If there will be a rug / carpet / carpet, it is better to make it larger. Don't be afraid to leave gaps. They are needed for. Please note again: the height is measured along the inside of the door frame - from the bottom edge to the saw cut. Cutting off, try on the racks in the doorway.

Now it is necessary to saw off the lintel along the length and, if necessary, cut it on the other side (if the joint is at 45 °). The length of the lintel should be such that, when folded, the distance between the uprights is greater than the width of the door leaf. The minimum clearance is 7 mm, but it is often made larger. 7-8 mm are distributed as follows: 2 mm for hinges, and 2.5-3 mm for expansion gaps. Any interior doors - MDF, fiberboard, wood - change their dimensions depending on humidity. Clearances are required to accommodate these changes. And 5-6 mm is not always enough, especially during wet rooms... For the bathroom, just leave a little more, otherwise, with high humidity, they may be difficult to open.

So, we decided on the minimum gaps when installing interior doors:

on hinges - 5-6 mm;
top, bottom and sides - 3 mm;
bottom - 1-2 cm.

After you have cut off all the pieces and made the cuts, fold the box down on the floor. If you notice somewhere in the docking flaws - eliminate it with sandpaper fixed to the bar. The more accurate the match, the smaller the gap.

Assembly

Regardless of the material of the box and the method of connection, holes are pre-drilled for fasteners - so that the material does not break. The drill diameter is 1 mm less than the screw diameter.

The box is folded, angles are set at 90 °. Holding the rack and lintel in this position, drill holes with a drill. If there is an assistant, he can hold. If you work alone, temporarily fasten the correctly positioned box with two transverse bars - closer to the top and bottom. This will help you avoid mistakes and make the right connection.

If connected at an angle of 45 °, three holes are made on each side. Two on top - stepping back a centimeter from the edge, and one on the side - in the center. In total, three self-tapping screws are required for each connection. The direction of installation of self-tapping screws is perpendicular to the connection line.

If connected at 90 °, everything is simpler. Drill two holes from above, directing the drill exactly down.

Step 2: Inset stitches

Most often, 2 hinges are installed on the interior doors, but 3 hinges are also possible. They are placed backing 200-250 mm from the edge of the door leaf. If the frame and door leaf are made of wood, choose a location so that there are no knots. First, the hinges are attached to the door leaf. The order of work is as follows:

We apply loops to the selected places, outline the contours. The easiest way to do this is with a finely sharpened pencil, but experts advise - with a knife blade. This makes it more accurate and the gaps remain smaller.
If they have, if not, they take a chisel and choose the material for the thickness of the loop. More sampling is not necessary, only for the thickness of the metal.
A loop is installed in the prepared recess. Its plane should be flush with the surface of the canvas.
The exposed loop is fixed with self-tapping screws.

Having fastened two hinges, the door leaf is laid in assembled box, set the correct gaps: from the hinge side - 5-6 mm, 3 mm from the opposite side and from above. Having set these gaps, the canvas is fixed with wedges. Exposed exactly in horizontal and vertical planes (shims can be used if necessary).

After exposing, the locations of the mating parts of the loops are marked. Sometimes it is more convenient to remove the already installed loop, and then reinstall it. A notch is also made according to the markings. Depth - so that the surface of the hinge is flush with the surface of the door frame.

Step 3: Install the door frame

The assembled box must be correctly inserted into the opening. This is a very important task. Before you install the interior door, knock down everything that can fall off in the opening. If the wall is too loose, the surface is treated with deep penetration primers with an astringent effect. If there are too large holes, they are covered with plaster, very large protrusions are constrained. It is easier to insert an interior door into the prepared opening. If this is your first time doing this yourself, make it easier for yourself.

A box without a door leaf is exposed. It is oriented strictly vertically. The verticality is checked not only by the level, but also by the plumb line. The level often gives an error, therefore it is more reliable to check with a plumb line.

So that during installation the box does not warp, still install temporary spacers on the floor, slopes in the corners which give a high degree of rigidity. To open the doors, they are inserted in the same plane with the wall. Only in this way will it open completely. If the wall is uneven, place the box not along the wall, but vertically. Otherwise, there will be problems opening or closing the door.

How to insert an interior door with your own hands - in the same plane with the wall

Once the position is selected, you can fix it. This is done using mounting wedges - triangular wooden or plastic bars. First, the wedges are placed on both sides of the lintel - crossbars, then above the posts. Thus, the position of the box relative to the doorway is selected and fixed. Next, the verticality of the racks is checked again. They are checked in two planes - so that they are not tilted forward or backward.

Then the wedges are installed at the bottom, then after about 50-60 cm, checking that the racks are exactly level. Additionally, the transverse bar is wedged in the middle. They check whether the elements of the box are not bent somewhere, correct if necessary. You can start mounting.

Step 4: attaching the box to the doorway

There are also two ways of fastening: right through to the wall and mounting plates. If the wall allows and you are not intimidated by the caps of the fasteners in the box, you can attach it through and through. It is reliable.

To install interior doors, it is enough to screw two self-tapping screws into the cutouts for the hinges and, on the other hand, under the plate of the counterpart of the lock. Additional holes are drilled in the cutouts. They are made so as not to fall into the holes for fastening the hinges or the counterpart. Make sure that the head of the screws is recessed and does not interfere with the installation of the hinges and overlays.

If this amount of fasteners seems unreliable, drill through and cover the holes with decorative washers matched to match. Or there is also a special MDF molding with removable slats. The fastener is installed in the prepared groove, and then closed with a strap.

The second method is secret, the fasteners are not visible. Attached first with back side box mounting plates. In principle, it can be used for drywall, but there are also special ones - thicker, although when installing interior doors, drywall will be enough.

Step 5: foaming

After all the gaps have been set and the wedges have been installed, the gaps between the box and the wall are filled with polyurethane foam. For its better polymerization, the wall is moistened with water from a spray bottle. After that, the foam is squeezed out, filling no more than 2/3. Too much a large number of foam can cause the box to be blown inward. Therefore, do not overdo it.

Spacers are used to ensure the doors are not warped by foam. But if you do not overdo it with foam, nothing should happen.

After the foam has polymerized ( exact time indicated on the cylinder) the spacers are removed, the door leaf is hung and the door is checked. Next comes the finishing work: and platbands, if necessary - extras.

Swing doors are different in design and the list of materials used. They really kind of swing open. A block of such doors is made up of a door frame, which is fixed in doorway walls, as well as one or several canvases that are hung on the box.

In addition, there are left and right doors: depending on the side into which the door opens. It also depends on this parameter, which side will be located door hinges... Right-sidedness or left-sidedness of the door is easy to recognize: if you stand at the side of the door into which they swing open, then at the right door the hinges (awnings) will be on the right. The left is on the left. There are also swing doors. They are able to open into both separate rooms.

The structure of the door leaf, which is made of solid wood, can consist of both different species and from a single piece. If the door is made of different types of wood, then the pieces of wood must be carefully selected in accordance with the technical and operational properties in the process of making the door leaf. The assembled canvases are typically veneered with a veneer made of valuable breeds wood. The veneer is also treated with enamels and nitro varnishes.

The door leaf can be filled with slats, wooden blocks or be framed with small-hollow or solid cores of plywood, veneer, spiral shavings, polyurethane, hardboard or insulating fiberboard.

Most often, paneled doors are used in a residential interior. They can be either deaf or equipped with glazing panels. In addition, glass panels can be reinforced, patterned or transparent. Oscillating canvases are an exception. For safety reasons, they should only be fitted with transparent glass.

Mesonite doors are made of pressed wood. In such wood, the fractions should be finely dispersed. Mesonite doors are quite strong and durable. Front surface trimmed with valuable wood veneer.

More recently, the interior has appeared plastic doors... They are distinguished by their lightness, unlimited colors and modern design... The rebate of the door leaf of the plastic door is rounded. Consequently, the door is devoid of traditional edges. The plastic door has additional advantages: the ability to open in both directions and the visible absence door hinges... Such doors are either painted or finished with a stretch of 2-3 layers of plastic.

Elite doors are made only to order. However, cheaper versions can be purchased in stores. In the process of buying a door, it should be noted that the size of the doorway should slightly exceed the size of the door. Therefore, a gap of 2-2.5 cm should remain between the wall and the box during installation. This gap can subsequently be cemented or filled with heat and sound insulating material.

When installing the door frame, use a plumb line and square. First, the door is emphasized - a bar that is inside the box. It will prevent the door from turning after it is closed. After that, the slots for the door hinges are cut in. Now you can hang the door and install the platbands. In the last turn, work is carried out on the decorative framing of the box and plastering the uneven edges of the wall around the opening.

Most of this work can be avoided by purchasing pre-assembled doors from the factory. These doors are equipped with a ready-to-install door stop and a finished door frame. Also in the kit you will find a stopper bar and hinges. The door frames have already been cut at a 45 degree angle.

The doors are installed in place after the plaster is made or after the plaster wall has dried. However, the door must be installed before laying the floor covering and installing the skirting boards. Before starting work, you should decide in which direction the door will open. The door frame is installed depending on this solution. It is best if the door opens towards the exit from the house or apartment. Even balconies and loggias should be considered such exits.

Before installing the door frame, you need to assemble the side and top trims. After that, you can install the box in the doorway. In order to install the frame, the three pieces of the door frame should be laid on the floor. Then the door stop is installed. The top and side straps are connected with nails. In this case, the nails should be round in cross section.

The left and top straps are installed in the same way. A 5 x 2.5 cm strip is nailed between the two side straps at the bottom of the door frame so that they remain parallel throughout the entire installation time of the door. Now you need to install the assembled door frame in the doorway and carefully place it in the center. It is necessary to make sure that all elements remain strictly rectangular. The perpendicularity of the elements and the verticality of the installation are also checked. Check the horizontalness of the upper harness using a level, square or plumb line. If necessary, seal to align the door frame in the required locations.

In order to properly install and secure the door frame, it is necessary in the places where it will come into contact with the wall, put pieces of plywood under it. Now check the verticality of the side elements again. Attach the box with 6.5cm nails without a cap to the reinforcement bars (if the wall is made of wood). If the wall is stone, then screws should be used instead of nails. Remove the nailed bar and check the horizontal top harness again. Correct its position if required.

The height of the standard door is 1981 mm. The width of such a door can be different. It depends on the standards of the country of origin.

Factory doors are supplied with hinges already attached to the door frame. To hang the door, it is necessary to separate the fastened parts of the hinges and install them in previously prepared places. In the process of performing this operation, it is necessary to disassemble the hinges, remove the axles, and then screw the corresponding parts of the hinges into the recesses that are cut in the door. In order to install the door in the door frame on the hinges, it is necessary to put lining under it. After that, parts of the hinges are installed and the axles are inserted into place. If necessary, you can adjust the stopper bar. Consequently, a smoother closing and opening of the door will be provided.

To complete the installation, you need to nail the trims around the door frame. To do this, install the upper element of the platbands above the door, then check this element for horizontalness and nail it down with nails 4 cm long. The nails should be oval in cross section. The first nail should be driven in 7.5 cm from the corner. After that, the next nail is driven in at the same distance from the other corner. Between the corners, the nails should be 15 cm apart from each other. The side elements are nailed to the frame. The correctness of the joining of their ends is checked. The ends, of course, should be chamfered at a 45 degree angle. The ends must fit tightly to the top of the platbands. The side elements are nailed starting from the top. The same operations are repeated for the other side of the door. After that, all that remains is to equip doorknobs in the corresponding holes.

Installation of a door in the frame of a wall made of beams has some peculiarities. So, if a passage is to be provided in the frame of the partition, then at least one vertical bar must be removed from the frame. In place of this bar, it is necessary to mount a rigid supporting structure, which is called a door frame. Consequently, the doorway will be limited by a pair of vertical bars. These bars must be nailed from the inside. The box is bounded from above by a short cross member. The crossbar is nailed between the reinforcement bars. It is also called top harness... short beams, which are reinforced between the ceiling beam and the top trim, will serve as a support for dry plaster, which will be nailed over the door.

It is recommended to start the installation of the box by mounting two ordinary beams, which are far enough apart from each other. After that, it is necessary to equip all parts of the box and the door: a 6 mm thick seal around the perimeter, two reinforcing beams 5 cm wide and the door assembly. Reinforcement bars should be applied to the outside of each outer opening bar. Outer beam press down with your foot. Nail the second beam to it with nails 10 cm long (the nails should have a round cross-section). Drive in nails every 40 cm.

In order to install the upper harness, it is necessary to cut off a block with a section of 10 x 5 cm. The length of this block should be equal to the distance between the reinforcing bars. Put the block in place with a gap of 6 mm. This gap will also serve as a seal over the door. To the vertical beams, nail the bar with nails with a circular cross-section 10 cm long. Drive the nails from above and below at the ends of the bar.

Then install the backups. To do this, cut the bars of a length that is equal to the distance between the top trim and the ceiling bar. Nail the props with 10cm round nails to the reinforcement bars. To complete the manufacture of the doorway after arranging the wall in place, it is necessary to cut off that part of the floor beam that is located between the inner sides of the auxiliary reinforcing beams. The door frame during installation must be in accordance with the exact dimensions of the door leaf.

As a rule, the door is purchased as a set. Therefore, to produce accurate calculations it is possible in advance.

Sometimes it is required to shorten the door leaf. After all, after purchasing a door block or during repairs, it turns out that the door leaf is too high. If the door was recently purchased or was made to order, then it is better to entrust the work of fitting the door to specialists. This primarily applies to plastic doors. If the door is made in the form of a solid array, then the work can be successfully completed independently.

The door leaf is shortened with a hacksaw equipped with fine teeth. You can also use a hand saw. However, in the latter case, attach the board to the back of the door leaf. This will give you a smooth, burr-free cut.

The lower part of the strapping of a light (with filling) door leaf is made of solid wood or solid timber, taking into account the possibility of shortening.
